(AllHipHop News) Makonnen has decided to quit making music.
The singer/rapper took to Twitter over the weekend to explain the reasons why he was retiring, despite having such success in a very short period of time.
“Tired of singing and crying in the booth making all these songs for u that’ll you will never hear, I had to let it go,” he tweeted. “Nobody makes music anymore, nobody truly locks in for a real session.”
He then suggested his new music was so hot that he would put other entertainers in retirement.
“If I could release music how I wanted I wouldn’t retire, but then if did that, so many would have to to just retire, so ill accept retire,” he said with some grammatical errors.
Makonnen may be seeking a new recording home, as he was signed to Drake’s OVO Sounds once, but defected to Warner Brothers.
(AllHipHop News) Aesop Rock is making it clear what side he stands on when it comes to LGBT rights.
The rapper, who just released his album The Impossible Kid, is currently on a nationwide tour to support his first album in four years.
On the outing, he has two dates in North Carolina, which is at the center of a battle with the Department of Justice over gender equality.
The Rhymesayers Entertainment emcee will donate the proceeds of his show at Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro on June 29 and another at in Charlotte.
“All proceeds from the Carrboro and Charlotte, North Carolina stops of the Impossible Kid tour will be donated to Equality NC – a statewide, non-profit organization dedicated to securing equal rights and justice for LGBT North Carolinians. The discriminatory HB2 law is shameful,” Aesop Rock told AllHipHop.com in a statement.
It’s also known as “the bathroom bill” because it bans people from using restrooms that do not match with their biological sex as opposed to the gender they identify with.
Dozens of performers have scrapped their shows in North Carolina, while numerous businesses have left or canceled plans for expansion in the state.
“We felt that cancelling the show outright would not represent our fanbase who also stand against such injustices, and hope that by contributing to the fight locally we can do our small part in a much larger mission,” Aesop Rock said of his reasoning for the performance.
Yesterday (May 9), Loretta Lynch and the DOJ filed a lawsuit against the state of North Carolina, claiming HP to violates the Civil Rights Act.
To support Aesop Rock’s cause and donate visit http://equalitync.org. The Impossible Kid is in stores now.

We hate to say it, but seeing as hip hop stars Wiz Khalifa, Soulja Boy, Rick Ross, The Game, Lil Wayne and retired professional boxer Mike Tyson have been sporting face tattoos with maximum emphasis on style and minimum emphasis on drama for awhile, is it yet another case of famous white boy did it second?
Well if it is, don’t go telling that to pop star Justin Bieber’s people because this morning it has been trending like new money on social media that the star of “What Do You Mean?” fame has gotten himself a tiny tattoo of a crosson his face right next to his right eye.
While Bieber himself is staying mum about it, JonBoy, the tattoo artist who did the honors on May 6th at a tattoo parlor in NYC, wasn’t shy at all when he spoke to Us Weekly about exactly what this new bit of face art does mean to the star – and it would seem to center on religious fervour versus traditional Bieber Fever.
“Justin came in last night and decided on a small cross near the corner of his eye,” JonBoy stated on the subject, adding: “it represents his journey in finding purpose with God.”
Well that’s not what we were expecting… to be sure.
Well, what do we have here? I have exclusive word that there is another Hip-Hop biopic on the way. Guess who? Well do you know who this is:
Probably not, but if you do, you are an OG or well-educated in Hip-Hop. Roxanne Shante is one of the pioneering rappers in rap music. She was known to beef, and battle wit other rappers and dropped some classic joints. I am hearing that she definitely has a movie on the way, and not a documentary either. A movie in the same vein as “Straight Outta Compton” and others.
That’s about it for now. What do you think of the possibility of this being a movie?
Fun fact: Roxanne Shante encouraged Nas to keep rapping when he was a very young dude. They are both from Queensbridge.
(AllHipHop News) Is Nicki Minaj’s ex-boyfriend ready to jump into the reality TV world? Safaree Samuels is reportedly the newest cast member of VH1’s Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood.
TMZ reports Safaree is dating LHHH star Nikki Mudarris. The two were seen holding hands while exiting L.A. sushi spot Katsuya. Neither S.B. nor Miss Nikki Baby addressed whether they were officially dating, but they both shared loving statements on Twitter within hours of each other.
Sometimes you have to wonder are people making this Beyonce and Jay Z ‘Lemonade’ “scandal” bigger than what it is. It seems like everyone is falling for it, just like Bey-Z might have expected.
According to Radar Online, Jay Z is going over-the-top to win back Beyonce’s affection! A source close to the couple told them that Jay has something special planned once Bey returns home to L.A. from her ‘Formation’ tour.
Apparently Jay Z has redecorated their entire Bel Air mansion and filled it with romantic gifts to show Bey how much he loves her. An alleged cousin of Beyonce has been claiming that the couple has been having issues, and ‘Lemonade’ was an attempt at working through those issues. Do you think Jay & B are really having problems?
In that perplexing duality that we have come to know and accept from FOX, while we don’t exactly vibe on that ultra conservative news bent they’ve got going on, a lot of their non news related episodic shows ( insert here “Empire,” airing Wednesdays at 9:00/8:00 central) actually have something that we can see getting excited about – or at least checking out to see if it is worth a second viewing. To that end, tonight, May 17th airing at 9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT is the premiere of the pilot episode of FOX television’s new dating show “Coupled“ from executive producer Mark Burnett ( “Survivor,” “The Voice,” “The Apprentice,” and “Shark Tank”) and hosted by Terrence “J” Jenkins (“106 & Park” and “E! News”).
While most dating shows are about one rose allowing one “special” couple that slim to none chance of hitting the love jackpot via national television exposure, “Coupled” is a little more liberal and forgiving when it comes to how many folks and what kind of folks get to give it the good old college try when it comes to successful relationships. Starting with 12 single professional women from a mix of divergent racial and ethnic backgrounds living on a beautiful Caribbean Island, the show flies in eligible men via helicopter, with the aim being to allow the women to be the ones who decide which men stay and which men get the boot back to the mainland. Eligible men who have been chosen to stay by one or more of the eligible women then get to then choose which interested women will accompany them one on one across the island at a luxury villa to discover whether initial chemistry can bloom into compatibility. In short, the rules have been set in such a way that allows the capacity for every woman on the island to find the “right” man.
Considering that today’s first episode is flying in one African American male digital ad executive pitching himself as the real deal to not one but three young professional African American women among the twelve sitting “Coupled” island dwellers, and this could be something a bit different from all of the others in this mainstream reality genre. You’ll have to tune in to see how music and a stated affinity for freestyle rapping figure into this episode in a way that is up for debate as to whether it’s simply unexpected or destined for immediate filing in the “corny” bin.
“Coupled” premieres tonight, May 17 at 9:00-10:00 pm ET/PT on FOX.
Uh oh. Amber Rose is in a legal fight to win the exclusive right to trademark her name. Amber, like her bestie, Blac Chyna has filed legal documents to trademark her name so she can make some serious money off of it.
Well the problem is up-and-coming country star Amber Rose Kelly also wants rights to the name, and has since filed docs as well. Amber Rose Kelly is saying she’s the famous one as she is an award-nominated former child actor, singer, songwriter, recording artist, model and photographer. She claims the Amber Rose we know is nothing more than an ex-stripper. Ouch. Who do you think should have the rights to the name?

Rap legend Big Hutch aka Cold 187um is back with some help from Too $hort and E-40. This new single is taken from Cold 187um’s new upcoming album The Black Godfather.
Desiigner was chopping’ bricks like Jackie Chan!!!! The dude got shot at 14 and a bunch of other stuff! This white gentleman dug deep and got all the info on the dude that sounds a lot like Future. BUT, Desiigner’s energy is off the chain. I don’t know if you care, but I have to admit, I watched the entire thing. Check out where future came from and where he may be going. The “Panda” rapper is more interesting than I expected.
(AllHipHop News) Rihanna is further proving why she should be crowned the “Queen of the Hot 100.” The Roc Nation singer already racked up 14 #1 singles, passed the Beatles for the second-most total weeks spent at #1, and became the only artist in history to have a #1 single on seven consecutive studio albums.
This week Rihanna earned her 28th Hot 100 Top 10 record when the Calvin Harris collaboration “This Is What We Came For” landed at #9. Those 28 Top 10’s puts RiRi in a fourth place tie on the all-time list with the legendary Stevie Wonder.
The “Work” performer was previously tied with Mariah Carey, Elton John, and Janet Jackson with 27. Rihanna now only trails Madonna (38), the Beatles (34), and Michael Jackson (29). Elvis Presley collected 36 #1 singles when combining both Hot 100 and pre-Hot 100 songs.
Rihanna will likely catch MJ in the coming weeks. Her Anti single “Needed Me” hit a new Hot 100 high at 13. The Grammy winner also sits at #6 with “Work” and #76 with “Kiss It Better” as well as #52 as a guest on Drake’s “Too Good.”
(AllHipHop News) It’s been a huge week for Drake. The OVO leader’s latest LP VIEWS sold over 850,000 copies in its initial week, and Drizzy earned the first #1 single of his career as a lead artist with “One Dance.” Drake also rose one spot on the list of career Hot 100 appearances.
It was announced that Drake currently has 20 different songs on the Hot 100 chart. That is a record for the number of hits on the tally at one time. The 16 new records from VIEWS breaking into the top 100 also moves the Toronto rhymer pass Elvis Presley on the all-time list.
Drake has seen 123 of his songs make it onto the Hot 100 during his career. He jumps into third place by leap frogging Elvis’s 108 songs. The Young Money representative is now only 6 behind his boss Lil Wayne’s total of 129. The cast of Glee leads the pack with 207 songs.
(AllHipHop News) Adrien Broner is not one to be shy when it comes to talking about money. The boxing star known as The Problem even adopted the phrase “About Billions” as his personal brand. In a new interview with AllHipHop.com, AB explains how his goal of reaching 10 figures prevented him from signing a $40 million deal with Jay Z’s Roc Nation Sports.
“I’m gonna make more than that,” responded Broner when asked about rejecting the Roc offer. “Take $40 million to stop me from making a billion?”
The Cincinnati native continued, “It’s a difference when you ain’t never touched no money or you don’t see what you can do. But I really see and I know what I’m going to do.”
Broner did admit he could have worded his public statements about not signing to Roc Nation differently. In 2015, AB suggested Jay could “suck my d-ck” for only proposing $40 million for five years. He later apologized for the comment.
(AllHipHop News) Marion “Suge” Knight has replaced yet another lawyer involved in his murder trial. On Monday, the co-founder of Death Row Records informed the judge in his case that he removed defense attorney Thaddeus Culpepper as his head counsel.
A specific reason for Culpepper’s removal was not presented, but another judge warned the lawyer about possible sanctions after he alleged authorities were conspiring to deprive Knight of his constitutional rights.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge William Ryan threatened to hold Culpepper in contempt of court is he continued to make those accusations.
The law firm of Lessem, Newstat & Tooson are now the sixth legal team to represent Knight. Culpepper is expected to remain on as a co-counselor.
“We strongly caution anyone from rushing to judgment in this case based on Mr. Knight’s past,” said defense attorney J. Tooson. “We believe the evidence will show that on the day in question, Mr. Knight was ambushed by several perpetrators armed with firearms. While under attack, Mr. Knight attempted to flee for his life.”
Knight has insisted he was defending himself during the January 2015 incident which caused the death of Terry Carter. Cle “Bone” Sloan was also injured. Knight was charged with murder, attempted murder, and hit-and-run.
The young ones are so funny. So, XXL recently reposted a photo that Diddy posted of himself with Nas and Future. XXL captioned the photo,
“Esco x Puff x Future.”
The comment section was hilariously in shambles as people tried to “correct” XXL telling them that it was Nas, and not Future’s DJ, DJ Esco.
DJ Esco even trended on Twitter for a bit. The kids won’t even do a five second google search these days for the sake of Hip Hop history or simply to find out rapper’s alternate nicknames.
Awww the kids know nothing about Nasty Nas, nothing about Escobar.
(AllHipHop News) Bobby Shmurda’s was to see a day in court, but his trial has been pushed back to September.
The news was confirmed by Kati Cornell, the Director of Public Information at the Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor in New York, to XXL.
The Brooklyn native was supposed to go to trial on Febraury 22, then May 1, then May 12 and now it is set for September 12.
It was the four defendants that requested the delay through their attorneys.
Alex Spiro represents Bobby Shmurda, who was born Ackquille Pollard. Attorney Javier Solano represents Rowdy Rebel. Kevin Canefield is the lawyer for Cueno and Leslie Jones-Thomas will defend Montana Flea.
Shmurda has waged his own counterstrike against the NYPD for wrongful arrest.
The rapper claims he was the target of a wrongful and warrantless search after police rushed into a friend’s Brooklyn apartment he was in on Dec. 17, 2014.
He was arrested, but claimed that none of the illegal materials were his.
(AllHipHop News) An unknown illness has landed Chance the Rapper in the hospital.
Chance was supposed to play for a charity event called Night For NYC. It was so bad that he was forced to back out and was hospitalized, according to TMZ.com.
Attendees were told just three hours before the event was supposed to start, and the rapper was replaced with Mark Ronson Anderson.Paak and Joey Badass.
More information will be reported as it becomes available.
