Erykah Badu To Headline Benefit Concert To Raise Funds For Processing Untested Rape Kits

(AllHipHop News) Soul singer Erykah Badu is teaming with The Right Productions for a special concert in Detroit.

The event is being held to raise money for the African American 490 Challenge of Enough SAID (Enough Sexual Assault in Detroit), a campaign to raise money for processing untested rape kits.

The Right Productions is donating $5 for every ticket sold.

The goal is to collect $50,000 toward the AA490 Challenge’s $657,090 year’s end target.

“Together, we stand for justice. We are honored to make Chene Park the site for great artistry supporting a great mission,” said Shahida Mausi, president and CEO of The Right Productions Inc., and promoter for Chene Park Amphitheater. “Erykah Badu is a true artist. She is a cultural icon. She answered the call, lending her voice to those who work to redress a wrong.”

In 2009, over 11,000 unopened, untested rape kits were found in a Detroit Police Department storage unit.

Many of the kits have been tested, but some still have not been examined.

Enough SAID was created as a partnership between the Michigan Women’s Foundation, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Detroit Crime Commission to raise money to test the kits.

The donations are also used to promote the investigation and prosecution of those rapes.

“It should come as no surprise that an artist with Erykah Badu’s impressive history of social consciousness would join forces with the black women leaders of Detroit to address this important social issue,” said Kim Trent, president of Enough SAID’s African American 490 Challenge. “We are very excited that she is lending her considerable talent to our cause.”

Erykah Badu’s concert is scheduled for Friday, August 12 at Chene Park Amphitheater in Detroit. For more information visit www.CheneParkDetroit.com.

Lil Kim Addresses Rich Homie Quan’s Apology For Flubbing Biggie Verse

(AllHipHop News) Rich Homie Quan became rap fans’ celebrity public enemy #1 this week. The Atlanta native was bashed online after he was unable to accurately perform the words to The Notorious B.I.G.’s verse on “Get Money” during the Hip Hop Honors tribute to Lil Kim.

The criticism led to Quan issuing a statement where he apologized to Biggie, the fans, New York City, and Kim. While some observers are not ready to forgive RHQ yet, the Queen Bee has made it known she has no ill feelings towards him.

Kim posted a message on Instagram responding to Rich Homie Quan’s mea culpa. She wrote:

Spoken like a true giant. I loved you before and I’m gonna love you after Rich Homie. People make mistakes and things happen sometimes that we can’t fix or undo. If you guys only knew the technical difficulties that went on behind the scenes. I would like to thank my friend [Rich Homie Quan] for coming through for me at the last minute. It’s all love.

Hoopz Returns With a Sexy New Country Look

Photos By: Chris Reagan for Trea Day Management

Self-proclaimed country girl and reality TV star Nicole “Hoopz” Alexander recently shot a sexy photo shoot in her new home town of Knoxville,
Tennessee.

Hoopz ditched the city life for cowboy boots, fishing rods and a slower paced lifestyle.

She showcased her new look in a new photo shoot with area photographer Chris Reagan.

Hoopz led Reagan and his crew into the woods to show them what Knoxville has to offer Int Erne of stunning scenery.

“As a kid, for me and 5 younger sisters, summertime meant freedom and fun! School was out and we could just go have adventures and find things to do that didn’t cost a thing,” Hoopz said.

“We didn’t have a lot of money growing up, so we went to the woods, swung from ropes, caught turtles, captured frogs, climbed trees and made up our own stories,” she continued. “Even now; all you have to do is put THE PHONES DOWN; just look around, or at each other and you can find something fun to get into.”

“In terms of summer enjoyment, I feel there’s two types of people; those who prefer to go on an extravagant vacation (I love that too) and those who rather do simple things like going in your backyard and turning it into your own personal paradise.

I love swimming, fishing, hiking in the mountains, building a campfire then grabbing a cold beer and some close friends and putting on some good [Country] music!

I chose the Smokies for my recent photo shoot because they are like a magical maze to me…You could literally go into one entrance and come out a hundred different ways. That means you’re going to cross a thousand different trails, see a million kinds of trees, flowers, all kinds of things and you’ll never run across the same part of a creek twice. It’s a never ending lesson in discovery.

At this point in my life it’s really important that a be true to my real self; NOT a so called “reality” or some “caricature” that the media tries to designate for me, but the REAL NICOLE.

When I’m in nature I’m more myself. I feel serene and protected. I feel more safe with the bears than people! Animals aren’t judgmental and require nothing but respect (and food).

I’m from Michigan where we enjoy four seasons, and I fell in love with the outdoors. I’ve lived in Italy, California and other nice places, but in Tennessee I found a freedom that is so deep that I’m able to be vulnerable and really LIVE!

Astrologically I’m a Cancer so June 20th marked the Summer Solstice and the start of my birthday month; that means the whole Solar Year is over and this is a time of reflection.

It’s OK to think about the past, ponder on things that happened and what we’ve endured, but then we have to let it go and move forward stepping out of that old, come in to the new and show the world the true you.”

Nicole “Hoopz” Alexander is busy working on variety of projects.

She is producing TV shows like Oxygen’s “It Takes a Sister,” designing a line of custom red wines, launching a puzzle-platform adventure mobile game later this year and endorsing select lifestyle products.

Turk Talks Re-Signing With Birdman’s Cash Money Records (AUDIO)

(AllHipHop News) Some people were surprised when the news broke that Turk was signing back with Cash Money Records. The New Orleans born rhymer sued the label for unpaid royalties, but the two sides settled the legal dispute in 2015.

Turk is now back at Birdman’s company. Mikey T the Movie Star of Report Card Radio interviewed the “Ugghhh” rapper about his decision to reconnect with CMR.

“Birdman – we see eye-to-eye as men. We had been in contact talking with each other for the last few months,” explained Turk. “It’s just something that God wanted to happen.”

Of course, there are critics of the move. However, Turk is not concerned with those opinions.

“It makes a whole lot of sense to me,” added the Hot Boys member. “It might not make a lot of sense to a lot of people. They wouldn’t understand business. At the end of the day, that’s what it’s about.”

Samuel L. Jackson Nearly Fired From “Tarzan” For Not Being Enough

As a story that has been told approximately 200 times over the last 100 years, the Warner Bros. Pictures drama, “The Legend of Tarzan,” which opened domestically on July 1, 2016 really needed something different to set itself apart.

While “Tarzan” opened to low expectations due to it’s rumored $180 million dollar mark price tag, the movie surprised most movie professionals by outperforming all estimates with a strong opening weekend coming in second to “Finding Dory” and beating “The Purge: Election Year” by a solid margin.

While “Tarzan” still has some serious work to do overseas in order to recoup the sizeable budget that made it possible, to it’s credit the movie has attempted to make some real strides in regards to Samuel L. Jackson’s character and not re-branding Tarzan as yet another reincarnation of  Africa’s “Great White Hope.”

No question, the very fictional Tarzan, as played by Alexander Skarsgard, is still the unmitigated star of “The Legend of Tarzan.”

However, Samuel L. Jackson’s co- starring role as the historically real George Washington Williams, one of the world’s first African American activists for the fair treatment of all Africans in the Congo, is a welcome inclusion to the latest revamp of this American classic.

“It was my first time hearing about him,” admitted Jackson in describing his initial discussions with “The Legend of Tarzan” director David Yates (director of the final four “Harry Potter” films).

“It was kind of like, this is a real guy?” stated Jackson, on Williams, adding: “I started reading through stuff and I was totally captivated.”

George Washington Williams was a former African American Civil War soldier and journalist who traveled to King Leopold II’s Congo Free State in the year 1890.

Upon seeing the institutionalized victimization of the native Congolese by the agents King Leopold II had hired, Williams wrote a famous open letter to the king and the world, informing Leopold II of the abuses suffered there in his name and demanding an immediate halt to those indignities.

From this historical standpoint, much like the attributes that can be ascribed to the #BlackLivesMatter movement and it’s most effective activists, Williams was someone who did not back down in the face of seemingly unfathomable odds.

However, in order to best get across this sort of toughness, an actor needs to be able to project a certain charisma.

While Jackson generally isn’t known to be short on charisma, when he arrived in London to start shooting “The Legend of Tarzan,” there was a problem:

“When David (Yates) and I first met and he cast me in the film, I looked one way, ” stated Jackson, recounting how when he saw David again closer to the actual shoot date for  “The Legend of Tarzan,”  he had lost 30 pounds for another role.

“(David) was very kind to me and nice and I got back to my hotel that night and my agent called and said,  ‘they’re going to fire you if you don’t gain 20 pounds.’  It’s like, “what?”  She’s like, ‘they want you to be formidable.’  I said, ‘I thought being thin like this would make Alexander look bigger!” said Jackson with a wry laugh adding: ” I went out that night and bought a three stack burger and stopped being a vegan pretty much immediately.”

From that point on Jackson underwent a strategic exercise and diet regimen to flesh out his “The Legend of Tarzan” character in a manner becoming such an important and impressive addition to the “Tarzan” myth.

So while “The Legend of Tarzan” has it’s ups and downs when it comes to being the perfect origin movie, it doesn’t make the tragic misstep of allowing Tarzan to be the only badass in the jungle.

For The Love Of Biggie: The Last Word To Rich Homie Quan

Bruh, you had one job to do.

Last night at Lincoln Center in NYC, I watched Queen Latifah, Salt-N-Pepa, Missy Elliot & Lil Kim, innovative, trend-setting dynamos who’ve held down this genre up and through the golden age, get a small piece of the regcognition they’ve had coming via VH-1’s Hip-Hop Honors “All Hail The Queens” edition.

Everybody from Jada Pinkett-Smith to Betty White to Michelle Obama sent over video tributes. Busta Rhymes, Timbaland, Common and more came through to be presenters. French Montana, Monica, Ashanti, The LOX and Fat Joe came through and performed. It was a beautiful night full of love, respect and honor for some of the best the business has ever produced.

And during the Lil Kim tribute… you messed up Biggie’s verse.

Never mind that Diddy, the man who’s made a business out of being busy, showed up for Kim. Forget that Teyana Taylor and Lil Mama, folks in your age bracket managed to perform songs from the same era with no problem… and don’t get me started on the fact that Faith Evans… FAITH EVANS came out to introduce a woman who was basically her husband’s mistress and chief rival for his love and attention to the stage to be honored. With all of this happening, in the middle of N.Y.C., You managed to mess up the lyrics to a classic song, written by one of the most important and loved artist of YOUR genre while backing up his protégé.

Bruh, you had one job to do… and wearing the sweater wasn’t it.

But there was just so many things wrong with this, man… you had the opportunity to score some big points for your generation. Belonging to an age range that’s already bogged down under complaints of entitlement, lyrical laziness and an overall lack of respect for Hip-Hop and its founders is bad enough. But proving them right with stunts like this?

“I assure you that I never intended to disrespect the Memory of Biggie Smalls. I have long respected his work and his contribution to the rap game. I greatly apologize not only to Biggie Smalls, but also to all of my fans, Biggie Smalls fans and to New York. The city of New York has been nothing but good to me. I felt honored to stand on stage with artists I grew up listening to. Once on stage I had some technical difficulties and must admit I got nervous. I will forever be sorry New York, my fans, Biggie Smalls, Biggie Smalls fans, Lil Kim, and all the Hip Hop community for my performance. I hope you can accept my apology. To Lil Kim, Thank you for the opportunity.”

-Rich Homie Quan

I peeped the above apology so I’m not gonna keep hitting a dead horse. But bruh…You know how many MC’s from Brooklyn would have sworn off their Timberland tree for a chance to stand next to Kim and kick a Biggie verse on nationwide television? The same one who’d like to use those boots to stomp into mumble-mouth jelly for that screw-up. That you were picked to spit on that stage, being that you’ve been relatively quiet lately is amazing enough. That you were picked to show your face in the tribute for women in Hip-Hop despite your history of r####-rhymes should be considered a miracle of Faith-level forgiveness… or a least a reason for some poor-choosing punk to get a pink slip before Friday.

Eventually this will all blow over and you’ll be back to your bad-dancing glory days in no time flat. But in the future, just keep this in mind…

You had one job to do… next time, clock in before you clock out.

Listen To The Instrumental Version Of J. Dilla’s “The Diary”

A new instrumental version of J. Dilla’s The Diary has been released.

The music is taken from the legendary producer’s recently unearthed solo 2002 album, The Diary.

This release was supposed to be Dilla’s first solo album, but he passed away from Lupus in 2006, before he had a chance to put the album out.

His favorite producers – Madlib, Nottz, Hi-Tek, Pete Rock, House Shoes and Karriem Riggins – banded together to put out an album Dilla would have been proud of.

Las Vegas Club Bosses Call For Talks With Chris Brown To End Racism Dispute

(AllHipHop News) Bosses at a Las Vegas nightclub want to sit down with Chris Brown to end a feud which axed plans for a long-term residency.

Last September the 27-year-old singer signed up for a residency at Sin City’s Drai’s nightclub, a deal which saw him play a number of dates at the venue, reportedly with a view to a longer term arrangement.

However bosses at Drai’s axed any plans to book him for future performances due to concerns over his alleged behavior and reportedly demanded an apology from Chris due to a since deleted Instagram post which accused club staff of racism.

Now it seems the club executives are prepared to offer the R&B superstar an olive branch and have reached out to his management in a bid to mend their relationship.

“Drai’s has always taken great pride in its relationships with our incredibly talented resident and guest artists, including a successful partnership with Chris Brown,” a club spokeswoman tells the Las Vegas Sun. “However, recent events have raised concerns that will need to be addressed with Chris and his management before that relationship can continue to move forward.

“We have reached out accordingly and are waiting to hear back from his team. We remain open to sitting down with him to discuss the future.”

As well as his bust-up with nightclub bosses, the Loyal singer has also fallen out with his former management, including his ex-manager Mike G, who has filed a lawsuit alleging Chris attacked him without provocation earlier this year.

Last month Chris hit the headlines when abusive text messages sent to his then publicist Nicole Perna emerged.

She was subsequently fired.

The singer was also allegedly kicked out of a holiday home on the Spanish party island of Ibiza after causing thousands of dollars worth of damage.

Drake’s Views Most Popular Album In 2016 According To Nielsen

(AllHipHop News) Drake’s Views leads as the most popular album in mid-year rankings, with the release earning 2.6 million equivalent album units, a measurement which is comprised of traditional album sales, track equivalent albums, and streaming equivalent albums.

According to Billboard, Views is the second best selling album of the year so far with 1.3 million in traditional album sales, trailing only Adele’s, 25 with 1.4 million sold.

The April release is also one of only three albums to have sold 1 million copies this year, along with 25 and Beyonce’s Lemonade.

Views recently saw its top spot on the Billboard 200 snatched away by long time rock group Blink-182, but the project’s departure from the top is expected to be short lived.

Industry forecasters expect Views to jump right back to the top next week, for its tenth nonconsecutive week in the top spot.

Sources say the album could earn as much as 100,000 equivalent album units in the week ending July 14.

Is Stevie J Hinting That He Is Dating Faith Evans?

VH1 certainly did their thing with last night’s Hip Hop Honors.

Not only did it pay tribute to female Hip Hop legends Lil’ Kim, Missy Elliott, Queen Latifah, and Salt N Pepa, but it also gave us some humorous and interesting moments during and after.

During the show Teyana Taylor stole the show with her two-part tribute to Lil’ Kim.

Rich Homie Quan got roasted for disrespectfully forgetting 99.9% of Biggie’s lyrics on the classic cut “Get Money” and Faith Evans not only introduced Lil’ Kim’s tribute segment, but she also made a joke saying that Lil’ Kim went toe to toe with everyone including herself as a reference to their love triangle with the late Notorious B.I.G.

Bad Boy alum Stevie J had to jump in on some of the night’s action as he posted a photo of Faith from the evening with the caption,

“I brag different.”

Stevie was quoting a part from one of Jay Z’s verses on DJ Khaled’s “I Got The Keys” where Jay says,

“My swag different, that bag different. My wife Beyonce, I brag different.”

Stevie J and Faith Evans have been longtime friends, so Stevie could just be bragging on his friend, or he could be hinting that the two are actually an item. What are your thoughts?

Fat Joe Says New York Knicks On Way To First Eastern Conference Finals Since 2000

(AllHipHop News) New York heavy weight Fat Joe chimed in with his expectations of the New York Knicks for the upcoming season.

“Man I love what were doing with the Knicks.  I mean, I love what the warriors did even more, but I love what the knicks are doing. I think we going third round. I predict third round out the east, we’ll be playing Cleveland,” in an interview with TMZ.

The Knicks have been making plenty of moves this off season, as they’ve added Chicago Bulls stars Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah, along with Brandon Jennings and Courtney Lee to the roster for next season.

Fat Joe’s predictions for the team to make its first trip to the Eastern Conference finals since falling to defeat to the Indiana Pacers in 2000, are quite lofty, as the team finished with a record of 32-50 last season.

Maybe Fat Joe could let the squad use his summer anthem “All The Way Up” to get the team pepped up for next season as the track was his highest charting single in nearly a decade.

Check out Fat Joe’s high hopes for his home team below.
