Breeding Ground: Who is DuQuaye?

If you had a six-figure job in medicine, and your career is possibly set as soon as you leave college, would you keep it? Or, would you choose to chase your dreams? Well, that’s what artist DuQuaye decided to do after his 8th month in training in the healthcare industry, and never looked back. The ATL-based provides a different perspective to the rap industry by bringing in a business perspective to his music. His music is aggressive and straight from the south, using bass-hitting beats and a steady flow. We had a chance to talk to DuQuaye about his sound (of course), his past, his rise to to making music, and even the decision to chase his music.

Ever since he was sing and dancing as a child, DuQuaye always had a knack for music to the point where it seemed to be natural. “I don’t think it [interest for music] was developed, I think I was born with it”, says Quaye. While being raised in Bridgeport, Connecticut, he grew up listening to a plethora of artists representing the East Coast, including The Lox and Rakim. However, these artists weren’t touching Quayes love for the biggest East Coast movement during his childhood, Puff Daddy and Bad Boy Records, a small love that would later on influence his craftsmanship in the music industry as both a business man and an artist. This love for music soon continued to grow along with Quaye, which soon lead to his first time making a song with his cousin as a teenager. ” I had written a song but I only had a written a hook and a verse for the first song,… and my cousin told me to finish the song and he’d be right back” Quaye tells AllHipHop, “By the time he got back…I had finished the rest on the song!”  This one situation lead to Quaye unlocking his potential.

DuQuaye was still into performing through his years as a student at Hampton University, but he got serious after leaving his career in healthcare. “I can’t stay in any..environment that allows me not to be happy” says Quaye. This decision soon lead him to working for Patchwerk studios in Atlanta. This soon lead to the artist getting knowledge in the music industry at an A&R, and soon using his skills in the industry to become an artist.

For now, Quaye’s newest song “F*ck Ya City Up” is out, and if you dig his music, check out more of his music via iTunes

And what I didn’t know until , I went to Instagram is that they revealed it on social media.

Hip-Hop Rumors: What Happened To Love And Hip-Hop’s Joseline At The Hip-Hop Awards?

It was all good and then it was all bad.

Joseline and Steve J rolled up at the BET Hip-Hop Awards, my spies tell me. All was well. Steve J was talking some stuff, mumbling about “n***as talking s**t” but that was way in the beginning of the show. Suddenly, towards the middle, things went left. As you know Snoop was the host and he was a really funny guy. And then there were others that were presenters and they were on some funny s**t too. From what I understand, Joseline was the object of several jokes and she didn’t like it. At some point, she ran out of the Civic Center’s may arena in tears. She retreated to a bathroom where she was crying uncontrollably, according to witnesses. Stevie J was by her side though. At any rate, she got herself together and apparently took to pictures with police. Ain’t that a bush! Anyway, nobody fully knows why she was all broken up, but that she likely let the jokes get to her.

I don’t know if they returned. I heard she was looking pretty hot though.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Murda Mook Disses Drake At BET Hip-Hop Awards!

Yesterday at the Hip-Hop Awards in Atlanta, I heard it went down. And Murda Mook went in on Drake, dissing the boy. I heard Mook provided one of the highlights of the night and called Drake all the way out. I heard he said he would put Drake back in a wheel chair like his character on that show. And then he said something like “Degrass – over here ain’t green.” Something like that. But anyway, he’s really laid down the gauntlet for that.

Will Drake reply? Doubt it.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Is Lil Boosie Dating Deion Sanders Daughter?

Walnita Decuir, Boosie’s wife/baby mama recently wrote a book titled ‘When The Music Stops,’ that seems to be loosely based on her life.

In the book, the main character is dating a rapper who eventually leaves her for a NFL player’s daughter. She also touches on dealing with jealousy and catching a case behind her man (all things she experienced while with Boosie.)

According to BallerAlert, Boosie has moved on to Deion Sanders’ daughter, Deiondra. The two being an item isn’t “news” either. Deiondra has been throwing hints around for a minute now.

BallerAlert reports:

“The main character’s name is Sherell Devore and she’s been dating a rapper by the name of Baisean “Bae” Torrei since she was 14. Hint: Boosie’s legal name is Torrence Hatch, seem similar? Anyway, she talks about her life dating a man who was the biggest entertainer in their city of Baton Rouge, having to deal with a lot of jealousy and hate, going to jail for him and eventually facing the the ultimate betrayal — When her husband “Bae” leaves her for Gianna Anderson (Deiondra Sanders), daughter of NFL star Gene Anderson (Deion Sanders).

The characters have made-up names but you don’t have to be a detective to piece two and two together. The news of him dating Deiondra isn’t exactly “new”, Deiondra has been hinting at it for a while, but it’s definitely interesting to hear Walnita’s side of things. Apparently art imitates life because Boosie allegedly left Walnita when she smuggled drugs into jail for him, he got caught, and she made a statement that ended up landing him 18 more months. Next thing you know he’s with Deion Sanders’ daughter.”

There’s also a few snippets of the book:

On losing his virginity in 2004:

It took a minute to slide up in that thang, fa’sho. A n***a was trying to figure it out! [Laughs] It was somebody from around the way—I was low-key talking to her but she wasn’t my girl. I used to listen to Lloyd and Marques Houston back then, all that slow s###.

On being initiated in the Bloods in 2006:

You get jumped on by a certain amount of people for a certain amount of time. I gave my life up for this gangbang s**t. The moment you get put on you gotta bang the hood and be involved in gang activities. I’m not trying to say I sold my soul, but I dedicated my life to the set. You could end up dead or in jail for the rest of your life, you feel me?

On getting his first gun in 2006:

My best friend gave me my first gun. When I held it, I was like, “Ooh wee! This is real!”…I threw a party in a church hall, but n***as who we had problems with came. They walked up close and I pulled the hammer out on them like, “N***a, what’s happenin’?!” Up in the church! They backed back, like, “OK, fa’sho

Pharoah is set to drop his Resurrection mixtape next Tuesday, which will be premiered on AllhipHop.com. In preparation for the release of the rap project, the YouTube sensation sat down with AllHipHop.com’s CEO Chuck Creekmur to discuss his relationship with the two emcees Pharoah is famous for imitating – Jay and Kanye.

Earlier this month Kanye used one of his infamous on-stage speeches to address Pharoah’s Yeezus impression at the MTV Video Music Awards. Ye told his concert audience he spoke to the comedian about his routine immediately after the VMAs.

“I called Jay Pharoah right after the MTV awards. I said, ‘I appreciate your show, but let me tell you about my story. Let me tell you about what I went through to get to that position’,” said Kanye. “I ain’t making it a ‘Black or White thing’ right now, but I’m telling you if you see a Black guy anywhere, he had to work 12 times as hard. So we ain’t gonna have no black comedians going onstage spoofing the people that’s working hard to open doors not only for Black people, but any creatives.”
