My Five Firsts: Dizzy Wright

Funk Volume artist Dizzy Wright is set to embark on the “House Party Tour” this Friday, October 10. The Las Vegas native is teaming with Boston-based duo Aer for a trek through several East Coast cities including New York, Pittsburgh, and Virginia Beach.

AllHipHop.com recently caught up with Dizzy to ask the 23-year-old rapper to discuss a few unforgettable moments in his life. The 2013 XXL Freshmen Class member reflects back on the first time he smoked marijuana, the first time he performed with his mentor Hopsin, the first time he heard two of the Hip Hop classics that helped inspire his The Golden Age mixtape, and more.

First Time Smoking Weed

The first time I smoked weed it turned out really bad. That night one of my homies at the time kinda got jumped at the show we were doing. He was upset, and the police came. He was so upset, he was just saying s**t. You know how n***as get. So the police kind of roughed him up, tased him, and hit him with their sticks.

It was a real tough night. That was the first night I ever felt weak, hopeless, like I couldn’t help my homie at all. I couldn’t touch the police. That was my first time smoking weed, and fortunately I think the weed made me deal with it a little better. I wanted to hit the police officer, but nobody would have ever known who I was if I had hit that police officer that day. I’d be somewhere locked up.

First Time Having Sex With A Groupie

I had groupies when I was in 11th grade [laughs]. The first time I was on 106 & Park’s “Wild-Out Wednesday” – let’s just say being on TV for 30 minutes, it does something to the ladies [laughs].

First Time Performing On Stage With Hopsin

My first time performing on stage with Hopsin was dope, because I had never seen a Black person crowd surf. I had never seen a Black person cause a mosh pit. I had never seen a Black person rap all the words to his lyrics. It was my first time seeing this new – at the time it was 2012 – rapper that wasn’t just getting up there and looking cool. He was jumping on motherf**kers.

I thought that was amazing. It made me just want to go more that route. I wanted to be more like Hopsin than just a rapper that walks around and holds his pants.

First Time Meeting A Musical Inspiration

I was in the studio with DJ Quik. That’s one of my inspirations. I was meeting him, not for the first time, but the first time as an established artist. I actually met DJ Quik when I was about 11 years old. My mom had me rap for him. We still got it on camera and everything.

Meeting him again and being able to tell him about that experience and explain to him the kind of songs I want to bring to the game are similar to the funk that he brought to the game…. For him to just break it down to me about originality, just smoking weed and not doing other drugs, and just staying true to Hip Hop, those kind of conversations remind me that the music that we do in Hip Hop is about how we express and explain ourselves.

You don’t have to over think it, overdo it, or try to be like anybody. You just gotta have fun with the s**t and be willing to grow. If you can remember that, you can do this s**t forever. You can be like the DJ Quiks.

First Time Hearing Nas’ Illmatic and Jay Z’s Reasonable Doubt

I heard bits and pieces of both of those CDs since they came out, but the first time that I listened to both those albums fully through was last year a little before “The Golden Age Tour.” Actually, a little before The Golden Age mixtape even dropped.

I was on my golden age s**t. I really wanted to dig into the roots of things. The roots of n***as explaining themselves – Nas, how he explained his Black experience; Jay Z, how he explained his Black experience.

I just wanted to tap into that. Being young and Black, you don’t have many people to look up to. We’re always looking to be like rappers to get the quick money. I always wanted to know – How did they get there? What were they even talking about before they got there? I wanted to dig into that kind of stuff to make sure I was doing the right thing, because that’s the way I felt like I wanted to go.

Juicy J Facing Lawsuit Over "Bandz A Make Her Dance" Video

(AllHipHop News) One of Juicy J’s biggest music videos of his career may end up costing the Memphis rapper/producer money. Juicy and Columbia Records are being sued by Creative Dream Productions and Mahad Dar over footage from the “Bandz A Make Her Dance” video.

[ALSO READ: Juicy J Ft. Future & ASAP Ferg – “Ice”]

Dar claims he and the production company were hired to shoot the visuals for the Stay Trippy track featuring Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz. Prior to the shoot, Creative Dream got word that Wayne would not make it for filming, and the company took that as confirmation the video was cancelled. It was later announced that Wayne would be available, but the miscommunication allegedly cost Creative Dream revenue.

Madame Noire reports:

Ultimately, the “Bandz A Make Her Dance” shoot took place on August 26, 2012. Mahad Dar was the principal photographer for the video and originally the sole owner of the video footage. But he says he would own the rights until he and Juicy J came to a financial agreement and any copyrights could be handed over to the rapper. Dar states that deal was non-existent and Columbia Records released the video without his permission, so this lawsuit boiled down to copyright infringement allegations against Juicy J and Columbia Records. Creative Dream Production demands that Juicy J stop selling his song. The company is also requesting all the profits made from the song and video.

“Bandz A Make Her Dance” has sold over 1 million copies and is certified platinum by the RIAA. The video for the song has over 34 million views on YouTube.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Meek Mill Is Coming Home!

I command you:

I am here to let you know EXCLUSIVELY that Meek Mill is coming home ANY DAY NOW. I would say the specific day, but I have been instructed to keep that under wraps, because of the haters. You know, when somebody is coming home from jail and the C.O.s or the other inmates get together and try to jam them up? Well, nobody wants that. Meek has some outstanding issues that I hear will be rectified as soon as he gets home. This includes Wale and some other beef-like matters. Honestly, we heard he was living like a boss in the bing.

Former 'Wendy Williams Show' Intern Files Lawsuit Against The Show's Production Company

(AllHipHop News) The producers of the gossip-filled television program The Wendy Williams Show is facing a class action lawsuit from one of  its former interns. THR reports:

His tasks on the show included washing dishes, getting coffee, picking up art supplies and throwing out garbage, he claims. He’s arguing, in the same fashion as other former interns litigating against their employers, that his work didn’t meet the Department of Labor’s standards for unpaid internships.

T### also argues that the companies did not provide any academic or vocational training. He believes the program would have needed to hire paid employees for the duties he and fellow interns were required to do.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Mariah Carey Asked Who To Help Her Find A Date?

Mariah Carey and Nick Carey are officially done and from the sounds of it Mariah is ready to jump back in the swing of things.

Mariah allegedly went to her homie Nas asking if he had any available friends to smash to go out with.

MailOnline reports:

“An insider told the publication the 44-year-old ‘texted Nas, wondering if he had any friends she could go out with — or even just hook up with. But Nas is nervous to introduce her to anyone.’

Mariah is a longtime friend of the 41-year-old rapper, whose real name is Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones.

The pair collaborated on the song Dedicated on her new album Me. I Am Mariah…The Elusive Chanteuse.

They are so close that last year it was rumored that she and the Nasty star were having an affair, something Nick laughed off in an interview with Howard Stern in April.

The America’s Got Talent host told the shock jock: ‘Nas is a friend of mine, he’s a friend of hers. She went to his birthday party, and I think it was in L.A.”

Maybe its just me, but Nas seems like such a random friend to ask for help from in that department…

Slowbucks Affiliate Ty Gunz Calls 50 Cent A F*ggot & Snitch; Challenges Him To Steal His Chain

Ty Gunz was interviewed by videographer Alex Schmoll, and he was asked about Slowbucks being a snitch. The question did not sit well with Gunz. He responded by attempting to check Schmoll.

“Slow a snitch? I take that real personal what you said,” Gunz says. “He’s not here to defend himself. I’m here, so I’m gonna defend him. I feel like you’re being disrespectful. You need to apologize for that.”

The cameraman did offer an apology. Gunz then asked if Slow was snitching, where is the paperwork to confirm that rumor and who went to jail from him working with the police. Gunz later turned his attention to 50.

“How I feel about 50? Man, f**k 50! I don’t give a f**k about that n**a. I don’t know nothing about that n***a!” said Gunz. “That n***a’s a f****t. He put a pan with a lot a rats. You gave offense to a lot of real n***as that’s outside.”

Ty is referring to a picture 50 posted to Instagram in July that featured rats drinking from the same bowl. The caption on the photo read, “Unity SBOE, nice to see you all together LMAO.”

At the end of the video Gunz pulled out his chain and challenged the G-Unit leader to send someone to take his jewelry. He also claimed 50 snitched on Kenneth “Supreme” McGriff which led to the federal investigation into Irv Gotti and Murder Inc Records.

GETTING TIRED OF BEING CONNECTED TO THE NOTORIOUS B.I.G

“BIG was a big part of my life besides being artists. He was my first true love. I think it was a blessing to even know him let alone be married to him and extend his legacy in having his son. That’s something that I will never get tired of. There was a time earlier in my career where that seemed to overshadow my actual talent but that’s not something I ever had to argue about.”

HEARING LIL’ KIM DISCUSS HER RELATIONSHIP WITH THE NOTORIOUS B.I.G

“I know they was getting it in.(laughs). It bothered me probably when I first found out because I didn’t know anything about it. hen BIG died, to me all that stuff was over with. It was nothing to ever hold on to any grudges over him. if he’s not even here.”
