Boyz II Men Reveal New Album Cover and Tracklisting For Collide

The iconic R&B trio Boyz II Men will return this fall with a brand new album titled, Collide. The group comprised of Nate Morris, Shawn Stockman, and Wayna Morris hold the distinction of being the best-selling R&B group of all time, with 64 million albums sold worldwide. Their new album presents a progressive sound for the R&B legends and their 23-year career. The album, due out October 21, is a collision of sounds and styles, fusing rock, pop, and funk with the soulful R&B that first took the 4-time Grammy Award-winning group to stardom.

“Collide highlights a broader side of our creativity, going further into doing what feels right for us at this moment in our lives,” says Shawn Stockman. “And the product of that is an album with the type of sound that works in any era with big drums and dramatic, lush piano. It’s expansive and it grooves.”

To give fans a taste of the album, “Better Half” and “Diamond Eyes” debuted on ABC’s#### romance reality series, “The Bachelorette,” with lyric videos for each premiering shortly thereafter. Time Is Illmatic: Jones Family Values

Nas Time
By Tamika N. Stewart

Yeah!! I finally saw “Time Is Illmatic,” and it is definitely a must see if you are a lover of Hip-Hop, American culture, and history. The documentary was promoted as a behind-the-scenes look at the legendary rapper Nasir Jones’ (Nas) making of the classic album, Illmatic. It was great to see interviews with legends like Marley Marl, Pete Rock, and Q-Tip as they chronicled the roles they played in the making of the classic album. Admittedly, I was hype to see this film, but beyond the phenomenal footage and music, what was most memorable and poignant to me was witnessing Nas and his brother Jabari (“Jungle”) as they continue to heal from their parents’ divorce years ago.

The Jones family seemed to have most of what they needed financially, and Nas enjoyed the benefits of living in a two-parent home with both parents working. The brothers credit their home environment to the hard work and dedication of their mom and dad, whom despite the fact that they lived in Queensbridge Housing Project, a community that is marred with violence, poverty, and crime, created a peaceful, fun sanctuary inside their home. But like so many families, when the patriarch, Mr. Olu, left the family home, things went left pretty quickly.

When families separate, the children are always left fractured from the disruption and consequently, each child will have his or her own unique experiences, thoughts, and reactions to their parents’ split. Nas and Jungle experienced their parents’ separation quite differently – then and now. Nas said in a rather matter of fact way, ‘his dad left,’ and he went to visit him at his new place. Period. Jungle, on the other hand, said when his dad left, he didn’t think he was going to ever see him—that he kept looking for him to come back to his family home.

Those very statements illustrate how two children understood separation very differently, and how they expressed their feelings about their father moving out, even over 20 years later. It’s likely that Nas, being the elder, quickly took on the role of protector and provider of his younger brother and didn’t have time to “get into his feelings”- Instead, he had to get to work and take care of business (hint…Illmatic). Jungle, who had the courage to express some really painful feelings, seemed to take the separation of his family much harder. As the audience laughed at his hyperbole and banter (and drinking) in the film, I was somewhat uncomfortable, because I could see that this man was still hurting. When a family separates, nothing ever really remains the same, and as Jungle spoke, I could feel his emotions jump through the screen when he described the changes that unfolded.

RELATED: The Filmmakers Of “Nas: Time is Illmatic” Speak On New Documentary

There was not a huge discussion about why Nas and Jungle’s parents separated, but my heart ached for Nas’ mother, Ms. Fannie, who had to make the difficult decision to leave the father of her children. It was clear she loved her children and put her needs a distant second. This was best illustrated when she told Nas and Jungle to love their dad despite their personal issues because “he is still your father”. In that simple directive, she gave them permission to love their father unconditionally, despite their mistakes. This was truly a selfless act, and more parents need to be mindful of separating adult issues from those of children, so they can be shielded from the rawness of divorce.

Although Nas’ mother died in the early 2000s, I believe she positioned her children and their father for this time of healing and re-commitment, and the catalyst was this movie. Of course, Time Is Illmatic is great for the Hip-Hop community, too, but if you really pay attention, you’ll see it was even better for the Jones family. As adults, it’s important to heal the wounds we get as children. This film illustrates that it’s never too late to strengthen your family and heal from the past by taking risks, being honest, and telling your story. The Jones family took a huge risk by sharing their intimate details, but by the film’s conclusion, you are so glad that they did.

EXCLUSIVE: Shawnna Calls For Unity Among Female Rappers, Suggests Forming An All Women Hip Hop Tour

(AllHipHop News) Nicki vs Iggy. Kim vs Nicki. Remy vs Kim. Digga vs Iggy. These are some of the headlines that have dominated the discussion involving female Hip Hop over the last several months, but one woman is ready to end all the beef among the ladies.

[ALSO CHECK OUT: Shawnna “Getting To It”]

Chicago’s Shawnna believes women in the culture should join forces and overcome the stereotype that they cannot work together. With all the attention female rap is currently receiving, the “Gettin’ To It” performer says it is now time for the them to take over.

“Look at the state of female rap. I know from speaking with these women – they’re not hateful. They wanna work together,” says Shawnna. “It’s just that we’ve all made so much of a stigma that we want to be the only one and we can’t work together, we’re working against that now. So it’s going to take extra effort to stomp that at. We gotta smother that.”

She continues, “There’s so much talent among the females, it’s unfair for it to be two or three out there, and that’s all you know about. No disrespect. They’re phenomenal. I support, listen, watch, and all that. But my heart still goes out to all of the talent that gets overlooked and passed to the side because of this stigma there can only be one queen. We gotta dead that s**t.”

One way Shawnna would like to see unity among the females in Hip Hop is by the women connecting for a concert trek. She acknowledges it would take for interested artists to check their excessive pride at the door to get that feat accomplished.

[ALSO CHECK OUT: Shawnna “Fire”]

“Wassup with an all female tour? You think the ladies won’t come out to support that? And you know what brings the men out? The ladies,” Shawnna suggests. “We’re ready to get some of this bread together. Some egos are gonna have to be put on the coat rack for a minute. We gotta say, ‘If we continue to go this way, we ain’t gonna eat.’”

Shawnna looks to a certain male rap entertainer as example of what femcees could be doing to increase their net worth.

“Look at DJ Khaled. He has built an empire off allowing other male artists to collaborate. Look at the money he’s making,” she says about the man who is ranked at number 20 on Forbes Hip Hop Cash Kings list. “I know [the women] wanna make money. I know they’re already making money, but who walks around saying, ‘I’m already making money I don’t wanna make no more?’ Nobody.”

Ultimately, Shawnna would be a supporter of a “Queens Of Hip Hop” type tour even if he was not booked to participate. As a rap fan, she just wants to see that milestone take place.

“Even  if I wasn’t included on it, you can be damn sure I’m getting my V.I.P pass and front row seat,” she declares.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Prince And Kendrick Lamar?

As we all anxiously await the full-fledged return of Kendrick Lamar, I got a scoop of a rumor! I am hearing K-Dot and the Mighty Purple One Prince are going to be hitting the studio together for the rapper’s upcoming album. Prince and his band ThirdEyeGirl recently performed in LA and Kendrick was there, according to sources. But, beyond that, I am hearing that the pair made it to the studio and crafted a track for the Compton rapper’s new, upcoming album. Here is the performance. We definitely know this happened.

I’m not sure what this couldn’t mean in the grand scheme of the new album. I just hope they can make whatever they do DOPE.

Prince dropped a pair of albums just yesterday.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Trina Introduced French And Khloe

We’ve been waiting for a minute for Trina to break her silence regarding the Franch and Khloe relationship. The Diamond Princess finally shared her feelings with 103.5 The Beat’s K. Foxx recently during an interview and if she’s spoken to Kim of any of the other members of the Kardashian clan.

“”I haven’t spoken to her,” said Trina.

“The last time I saw her was at Kanye’s concert in New York. I introduced French Montana to the Kardashians at the Kanye West concert. I just feel like certain things are like, girl code. I don’t feel like Kim’s done anything to me. If this is my sister, I’ma rock with my sister for whatever it is. Ain’t nobody gonna turn me away from my sister. I respect that. I just feel like it’s not what you do but how you do it. If I’m with you like I’m sitting in this room with you today and then tomorrow I see you talking to somebody that I’m not cool with or I am cool with and I don’t know what’s going on and you never say anything, it’s a little disrespect. But you go do your thing, I’ll do my thing. It’s all good.”

Mmph. Poor Trina. But she should’ve known better than to trust a Kardashian.

(AllHipHop News) Law & Order: SVU is known for taking real news headlines and turning them into story lines. Huffington Post reports about the episode:

SVU takes on the Ray Rice elevator assault and the Jay Z and Solange elevator fight in the latest episode to show just how ambiguous scandals can be when there’s no audio and only raw camera footage.

“I loved the idea of just a silent black and white scene, then sound goes out,” said showrunner Warren Leight. “You kinda wanna know what’s going on.”

(AllHipHop News) Throughout Nicki Minaj’s career the Queens native has been associated with Big Fendi’s Dirty Money, Gucci Mane’s Brick Squad, and Lil Wayne’s Young Money, but there were also rumors that she was close to being part of 50 Cent’s G-Unit.

“Nah, if anything, it never would have came from me,” said Banks about Minaj being passed over.

“I know I definitely wouldn’t have said that,” added Buck.

Jenny then mentioned that Nicki supposedly auditioned for 50 at one point. Neither rapper confirmed that was true, but Buck and Banks did respond to the speculation.

“I don’t remember that,” claimed Banks.

“If that did happen, and I wasn’t there then I feel like, ‘Yo Fif. Come on bruh. You at least could have let me be there,'” Buck stated.

Jay Pharaoh: From Conquering Comedy To Hip-Hop

By Chuck “Jigsaw” Creekmur (@chuckcreekmur)

Jay Pharaoh is one of the funniest men on the planet, but a cushy gig on Saturday Night Live simply isn’t enough for the Virginia native. Jay decides he wants to bust a rhyme and put out an EP to prove he can rap with the big boys. Guess what? he can. Now in his mid-20’s, Jay has been rapping since he was 13, when he started sharpening his blade in the battle rap circuit. Last month, Jay released The Resurrection EP to critical acclaim with a splash of hate from those unaccustomed to a funny man spitting serious bars. Chuck Creekmur, AllHipHop’s CEO, chatted with Jay Pharoh and got his take on all of it, including what Nicki Minaj really should have done with “Anaconda.”

AllHipHop: How would you describe your current form of Hip-Hop?

Jay Pharaoh: I definitely would say I’m absorbing a lot of Ludacris, J. Cole, Kendrick…I would say that I’m like all of those into one…a little Kanye too. Its like everything together in a different style. Sometimes its kamikaze. I can spit fast. Sometimes, I slow it down. I can relax on the track. Sometimes I can be aggressive. Its like a pot of gumbo that I don’t think Hip-Hop has seen in a minute.

We heard the music and I was impressed. I was actually a little surprised.

You hear that? Chuck said he’s impressed.

[Rubbing chin] It was like one of those moments where you’re like, “Hmmm…ok…hmmm.”

[Jay Laughs]

You thought it was going to be all jokes. I got bars, man.

You have bars but you also have a lot of variety too. The ones I really like are like, “Yo…he’s spitting.” And then there are the ones for the ladies we’ll be hearing 8 times an hour.

Its all about women. F**k the guys. We want what the women want. They like Drake and you don’t like Drake? Guess what? Yo’ a** is going to the concert. Its a woman’s world. I know James Brown said its a man’s world, but…

Well they drive the sales…

Well they do! look at that Nicki Minaj “Anaconda” video! It was like “Oh my God…look at her butt.” We couldn’t help but look at her butt. That’s all that the video had in it. It was full of butts!

Buttfest!

Buttfest. They should’ve called it “My A**.” That would have been perfect.

Check out Jay Pharaoh talk about how the chiefs at Saturday Night Live feel about his rap project, how he recorded it and worked at the same time. Oh…he busts a freestyle off the time of the dome too. Check it!

Hustle Gang Representative Doe B's Gravesite Disturbed (VIDEO)

It was discovered that someone began digging up Doe’s plot at the Greenwood-Serenity Cemetery. The perpetrators got about a foot and half into the grave before stopping.

Cemetery workers found a shovel sticking upright out of the ground Monday morning. Police believe someone got through a fence the night before.

“It’s crazy. I mean I can’t understand it. I mean what are they looking for? He’s dead,” said Doe’s mother Shirley Thomas.

Ms. Thomas explained her son was not buried with any valuables on him. She added she doesn’t know who might have desecrated her son’s grave.

“I think they were trying to make a statement,” said Thomas.

Doe B was shot on December 28, 2013 at a club in Montgomery. He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. Two other people were killed from the shooting. Jason McWilliams and Darius Thomas were charged with three counts of capital murder as a result of the incident.

Doe was a member of Atlanta rapper T.I.’s Hustle Gang crew. He released several mixtapes and appeared on Hustle Gang’s G.D.O.D. (Get Dough or Die) project.

CDC Confirms America's First Ebola Patient In Dallas

Having already claimed more than 3,000 people throughout West Africa, including a handful of American physicians and volunteers lending their services overseas, the Ebola Virus continues to rage across the region. Today the CDC (Centers for Control and Disease Prevention) held a press conference to announce a patient held at a Dallas hospital  has tested positive for the disease, making it the first documented case in the United States.

Officials at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital advised that the unidentified patient was “admitted based on symptoms and recent travel history” following a recent trip overseas.

Like the two Americans who were recently transported back to the states and successfully treated at Emory University Hospital, this patient seems to have been exposed to the virus in Liberia as well.

Many believe that the U.S. is better equipped to deal with such an outbreak, as many of the affected areas  were hit hard due to a shortage of healthcare workers and medical resources.

Said Director of Dallas County Health & Human Services Zachary Thompson, “This is not Africa. We have a great infrastructure to deal with an outbreak.”

At this time there are no other suspected cases in Texas.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Is Beef Causing Rich Homie Quan’s Dad’s Issues?

Somebody hit me on the mobile device. And they told me that there have been a number of attempts to rob Rich Homie Quan’s dad’s barbershop. The last robbery (attempt) resulted in Corey Lamar getting shot 4 times. This is the crazy thing…I hear Rich Homie’s dad is really, really cool and is a great dude in the community. The other side of it is that he’s also given RHQ a solid foundation for being the artist that he is right now. There is this rumor that the repeated shots at the barbershop are the result of some Rich Homie related beef. I don’t have much more to add other than GET BETTER SOON, BRO LAMAR!
