(AllHipHop News) Something I, as well as anyone over the age of 15, never thought would happen actually happened on The Angie Martinez Show Thursday afternoon (September 19th). Irv Gotti and Ja Rule admitted to losing the epic battle between 50 Cent & G-Unit in the early 2000’s.
Speaking candidly during Ja Rule’s first post-prison interview, Irv explains how hearing 50 Cent’s megahit “In Da Club” signified that they may have bit off more than they could battle:
We were in my office, me and Rule. Flex was about to play In Da Club [Laughs]. So Flex played In Da Club and that record was so dope. I looked Rule like ‘we have a major problem.
Irv says they are in such a great place that he could say “yeah, we took an L.”
I compare it to Diddy, I was the same dude [as 50 Cent] but I just didn’t want to beef with nobody. But I was watching Diddy when he was reigning terror. I love the music and I was vibing with it but I want that spot.
Ja Rule also revealed that at the height of the beef, 50 Cent’s connections to Hip Hop power players Eminem and Dr. Dre resulted in Murda Inc getting blackballed in certain senses from the mainstream media:
There were things that were behind the scenes that made us seem more irrelevant. We couldn’t go to award shows. They would make calls. ‘If Murda Inc is in the building Em is not going to perform’. We would get word from MTV, shout out to MTV. We would get calls from BET, shout out to BET. They’d say ‘we love you guys but they’re doing their thing this year and we don’t want y’all in the building because of this.

(AllHipHop News) This past Wednesday, The nominees and honorees for the 2nd annual Global Spin Awards were revealed in New York City by an esteemed panel of guests. The panel included DJ Drama, Executive Vice President at Def Jam Shawn “Pecas” Costner, DJ Scratch, the legendary Grandmaster Flash, Shawn Prez and the host of the upcoming awards, Sway Calloway.
Shawn Prez explained how a network of individuals knowledgeable of the DJ culture across the world comprise The Global Spin Awards’ Bureau which handles the nominations.
We took individuals all across the music industry and we asked them to submit an honest and fair vote. Just one vote per category, that’s all either of these people were able to do. We have individuals from Texas, individuals from overseas, individuals from the West Coast, the Midwest, the East. Once these votes were tallied, we went for the top 4 or 5 people who got nominations. There’s no buying your way into a nomination. There’s no befriending Sway or anyone on this panel because any one on this panel can only give you one vote.
The honorees at this year’s Global Spin Awards will be Kid Capri (Lifetime Achievement Award Honoree) and DJ Marley Marl (Legendary DJ Award Honoree). Grandmaster Flash spoke on his admiration of both legends at the press conference:
On Kid Capri
The first chance I got to see Kid Capri was at this place called Tavern on The Green which was located in Central Park. I was off that night and I made it a point to put on a suit jacket, because that was the only way you was getting into this place, and go see him. What made him so special was not only was his skills incredible but he was able to talk, or MC, or rap as it be, at the same time. There are those who DJ incredible. There are those who talk on the mic incredible. He’s one of those DJ’s who’s able to do both amazingly. My plan was to stay for an hour but I ended up staying the entire night and watched him throw on jam after jam after jam and talk as he was going in and out of his cuts.
On Marley Marl
I’m recognized in taking the turntable and mixer and making a science out of it. Marley took this machine and picked this one sound that today is the basis of how Hip Hop tracks are created. I have to speak technical right now, because this is where I’m most comfortable. I found this unknown turntable company called Technics and Gemini. Marley found this unknown drum machine by a company called Roland. He found a way to manipulate this low frequency sound and tune it and called it 808. For those that DJ’s, for those that produce, you have to know what I’m talking about. That low end rumble that you hear in almost 99% of Hip Hop songs today. I give major, major, major respect for Marley for taking that sound and finding a way to technically to insert that into a Hip Hop track.
The 2013 Global Spin Awards will take place in New York City on November 18th.

At first I thought Big Meech was coming home, but there is something else happening. If you know about BMF, then you know about “The White House.” The White House is owned by Demetrius Edward Flenory aka Big Meech of BMF, who the Feds say is an infamous drug dealer. BUT, I should say WAS the owner, because I am hearing that it has recently been sold to Atlanta Attorney, Catherine G. McCauley. McCauley ALLEGEDLY had a very cool relationship with Meech back in the day and this purchase is raising some eyebrows. Its getting some people to believe that the big homie Meech may be coming home and this is the set up. The White House was close to being turned over to the government, but my sources say this lawyer got it! Its a beautiful space, valued at about $358,000.
Maybe she’s setting up for Meechie’s return!?! Or just now owns a dope home. Literally!

(AllHipHop News) Russell Simmons was entangled in a big controversy recently when the Hip Hop mogul’s All Def Digital YouTube channel posted a video titled “Harriet Tubman Sex Tape.” The backlash over the clip was immediate and even garnered a response from Tubman family members.

Simmons appeared on The Arsenio Hall Show to talk about the decision to remove the video that depicted the iconic historical figure having sex with her slave master.
“I’ve done lots of comedy in lots of bad taste,” said Simmons. “This particular piece, when I understood how hurt people were I pulled it down immediately. I’ve never pulled down a piece of content.”
Simmons adds that he has faced negative responses over material showcased on his previous productions like Def Comedy Jam and Def Poetry, but this was the first time in 30 years that he did not support the artist.
The Def Jam co-founder also complains that even after taking down the video some individuals do not want to let the issue go. He told Arsenio, “a lot of these do nothing Negros, they were very angry and kept talking” and “they tried to turn me into Paula Deen” referring to the former Food Network star that lost her show and numerous endorsements after admitting she had used the “n-word” in the past.

“Love is a verb, not a noun. It is active. Love is not just feelings of passion and romance. It is behavior. If someone lies to you, they are behaving badly and unlovingly toward you. They are disrespecting you and your relationship. The words “I love you” are not enough to make up for that. Don’t kid yourself that they are.”
-Susan Forward
“Trust is like a mirror, you can fix it if it’s broken, but you can still see the crack in that mother sucker’s reflection.”
-Lady Gaga
“Trusting is hard. Knowing who to trust, even harder.”
-Maria V. Snyder
“Trust yourself, you will start to trust others.”
-Santosh Kalwar
“Loving someone is giving them the power to break your heart, but trusting them not to.”
-Julianne Moore
“Trust is the glue of life. It’s the most essential ingredient in effective communication. It’s the foundational principle that holds all relationships.”
-Stephen R. Covey
You may be deceived if you trust too much, but you will live in torment unless you trust enough.”
-Frank Crane
