(AllHipHop News) For 2012, Virgin Mobile has tapped headliners Nas and Santigold among others, for their October 6th free concert that is set to take place at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland.
In addition Nas and Santigold, acts like Skrillex, Das Racist, ZZ Top, Alabama Shakes, Ben Folds Five, Jack White and more will also hit the stage.
According the website, donations from last year’s event “built the Virgin Mobile RE*Generation House, a homeless youth shelter in Washington, DC.”
In an effort to keep the concert going for many years to come, attendees are asked to make a $10 donation to the RE*Generation initiative to address youth homelessness.
“Your donations will go towards opening the doors of a fully operational RE*Generation House, providing a community of homeless youth with access to not just housing but programming around social entrepreneurship and urban agriculture. All donations will be collected and presented by Virgin Unite, the philanthropic arm of Richard Branson’s Virgin Group.”
Last years lineup included The Black Keys, Cee-Lo, Big Sean and Deadmau5 while previous years have seen acts like Ludacris, Blink-182, Public Enemy, Weezer and Wale take the stage.
Those interested in “pre-sale” tickets can follow the concert on their Twitter page.
Tickets for the 2012 Virgin Mobile FreeFest will become available on August 24th at 12 pm EST at VirginMobileLive.com.
Last night at the Roseland in NYC, Nicki Minaj made good on her promise and held a free concert in NYC. This concert was to make up for her Summer Jam no-show. As expected, Nicki had a gang of special guests, including the ill nana, Foxy Brown. If you remember, Nicki partied with Foxy the night she sh*tted on Hot 97 and Summer Jam 2012.
Anyway, it looks like Nicki Minaj has inspired Foxy to step back into the booth and record new music. Check out what she yelled on stage when Nicki brought her out:
Is Jay-Z following in the footsteps of Eminem and 50 Cent and putting together a movie on his life? Sort of! According to the NY Post, Oscar winning Director Ron Howard and producer Brian Gazer will be filming Jigga’s “Made In America” music festival in Philadelphia. Whether it’s a documentary or an actual movie, we don’t know…but maybe this will be another “Back Stage” type of film. Check out what Brian Gazer told the NY Post below:
“The festival showcases 20 pre-eminent artists that speak to the new generation. I am producing the film with Steve Stoute and Jay. Ron is directing. It is going to be born through Jay-Z’s perspective . . . how he puts the event together.” Grazer added, “Jay stayed the king for a very long time . . . I can’t even begin to explain how he is capable of remaining relevant. He is a phenom, like a musical Michael Jordan.”
This sounds very exciting! The Budweiser sponsored festival is taking place on September 1-2 at Philly’s Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Fairmount Park. Everyone who’s anyone will be hitting that stage, including Drake, Rick Ross and Maybach Music Group Run-DMC, and even Pearl Jam.
The film is the brainchild of Jay-Z and Steve Stoute. Hov went out and got an Oscar winning director and producer – he does everything BIG! What type of footage do you think will be included in the doc-movie?
L.A. rapper Slim The Mobster went HAM on 50 Cent on Twitter yesterday, making allegations that 50 shut down the promotion of his music over at Interscope. In the epic Twitter rant, Slim acknowledged that what he was about to tweet could potentially get him dropped from his record deal. “Today I might get dropped,” tweeted Slim, “cuz I can no longer let these h### a-** straight n*gga’s get away with this sucker a** s-h*t.” Wow. Check out his tweets below:
What do you think Dr. Dre is going to say about all of this? Do you think Slim the Mobster just torpedoed his career?
50 Cent has yet to respond.
(AllHipHop News) The legendary voice of Rock-N-Roll Hall of Fame rapper MC Grandmaster Mele Mel has been utilized for a new short-film on The Beatles, who are celebrating their 50th anniversary this week.
Mele Mel, a member of legendary Hip-Hop group The Furious 5, provides the narration for the short-film The Beatles at their Best, which was released to the public for free today (August 15), to commemorate the group’s anniversary.
The “Beatles at their Best” focuses on the early years of The Beatles, told from an alternate point of view.
“I wanted to narrate ‘The Beatles at their Best’ because like most people I was familiar with the Beatles, but after learning more about their early years, I found it to be one of most interesting, intriguing and under reported stories in the history of music,” Grandmaster Mele Mel told AllHipHop.com in a statement.
The Beatles consisted of Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, who replaced the group’s original drummer, Pete Best, for reasons that are still speculated upon, to this very day.
Some claim Pete Best was fired due to his popularity with young female fans, while others claimed the drummer simply did not fit in with the group.
Either way, Mele Mel is calling on the surviving Beatles (Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr) to host an “ex-Beatles Beer Summit” to bring closure to the situation with Pete Best.
“After all these years, it would nice to put these guys together for a hand shake, maybe throw down a beer and bring some finality to this issue,” Mele Mel told AllHipHop.com. “Show that there are no hard feelings, everybody learned something and it all worked out in the end. I think that’s something that all true Beatles fans, especially those familiar with the story, would like to see.”

Happy Wins-Day, my Purposeful and Powerful!!
Welcome to a great day and a great opportunity to do it better! Today’s Daily Word is dedicated to being original! Nasir Jones once stated that “there is nothing new under the sun,” which means that anything new has been thought of already! This is a fact! Any idea, thought, obstacle, or triumph has probably in some shape or form been thought of, defeated, or achieved.
The one thing that is new and is original is YOU!! Each and everyone of us has inside a unique DNA code that differentiates us from others! If you took two different people and gave them the same set of circumstances, I guarantee you that you will get different outcomes. The trick is understanding that and accepting the fact that you will NEVER find anyone exactly like you!
Be who you are and NEVER allow yourself to be forced to be something you are not! Those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind! Above all, being yourself is the fastest way to bliss! Don’t follow the crowd, your horoscope, or conventional wisdom. BE YOU!!
It was written…. To thine own self be true, and it must follow, as the night the day, thou canst not then be false to any man…. And even though I don’t fully know what Mr. Shakespeare was saying… I now write… To thine own self stay true; you must follow your heart wherever thou shall lead!!

“Always be a first rate version of yourself and not a second rate version of someone else.” -Judy Garland
“Don’t dilute yourself for any person or any reason. You are enough! Be unapologetically you.” -Steve Maraboli
“Learn to… be what you are, and learn to resign with a good grace all that you are not.” -Henri Frederic Amiel
“The more you try to crush your true nature, the more it will control you. Be what you are. No one who really loves you will stop.” -Cassandra Clare
“We must not allow other people’s limited perceptions to define us.” -Virginia Satir
“Do not allow people to dim your shine because they are blinded. Tell them to put on some sunglasses, cuz we were born this way!” -Lady Gaga

Editor’s Note: AllHipHop.com is all about the Wild, Wild West! This month, we’re profiling the prolific impact that the country’s left-hand side has had on Hip-Hop music and culture. There’s something distinctly different and wonderful about West Coast rap and the characters who have held it down over the years.
First, we ponder The Pharcyde, a decidedly eclectic clique that emerged in the early ’90s with a look and sound that was light-years from what their gangster peers were pushing at the time. Dopeness.
Before there were hipsters in Hip-Hop and non-gangster rappers on the West Coast – there was The Pharcyde. Comprised of rappers Fatlip, Slimkid3, Bootee Brown, and Imani along with producers J-Swift and L.A. Jay, the Los Angeles collective brought a fresh and unique style and perspective to Hip-Hop during a time when the genre was ruled by gun-toting gangsters. Led by the strength of their single “Passing Me By”, The Pharcyde’s 1992 release, Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde, on Delicious Vinyl Records is considered by many to be a classic Hip-Hop album.
Over the years, the group has had well-documented struggles, such as in-fighting and drug habits, and they have gone through several breakups. Nowadays, B##### Brown and Imani travel on their own performing as a duo, while Fatlip, Slimkid3, J-Swift, and L.A. Jay are back working with their longtime label, Delicious Vinyl (Yes, they are still around).
In a fun and bizarre interview, AllHipHop.com caught up with Fatlip, J-Swift, and L.A. Jay at the Delicious Vinyl offices in Hollywood, California, to talk about the group being an influence on today’s style of MCs on the West Coast and lots of other things. Don’t let this video feature “pass you by”!

(AllHipHop News) Wu-Tang Clan member Raekwon the Chef has teamed with clothing brand Akomplice, to launch a limited edition line of leather belts.
Raekwon’s new limited edition “Only Built 4 Cuban Linx” series of belts are being manufactured in limited runs, according to Akomplice Co-owner Patrick McCarney.
Raekwon decided to work with Akomplice, due to his affinity for the brand.
“It’s a tough belt, I like the metal part, I felt like it was different and authentic,” Raekwon said. “I got together doing it with my peoples at Akomplice and I said, ‘yo I’m a fan of clothing and apparel,’ all that type of stuff. I felt like that would be hot, to see somebody walking around with a Raekwon/Akomplice belt on, you know, something different. And that’s what I liked about the belt, ‘cause it’s not your average okay-put-it-on, it’s a got a method to it.”
The “Only Built 4 Cuban Linx” belts, which will only see 25 manufactured, use premium black and brown leather, with an intricate brass fastening system.
Additionally, fans who scoop up the first 25 belts will also receive a limited edition Raekwon/Akomplice cigar box.
“We ended up using a maroon brown leather for the waist band and brass for the buckle,” explained Akomplice’s Co-CEO, Mikey Akomplice, who runs the brand with his brother Patrick.
“We added some subtle detail using laser on the band, and the entire belt is packaged in a cigar box, paying tribute to the Cuban Linx series. End product came out beautiful,” Mike McCarney said.

This is utterly stupid. Just stupid. But, we have to go through this process of healing, don’t we? Anyway, this is moving along pretty fast. As you know, in a Twitter exchange, writer dream hampton said that Nas used ghostwriters Stic.Man of dead prez and Jay Electronica to get him by on his album “Untitled” aka the N-Word album. Well, Nas dispelled the assertion. And Stic.Man partially did, saying that he worked with Nas. And now Jay Electronica has come to the rescue of one of the all time greats.
On twitter, Jay-E said the following:
“Nas is one of the Greatest Ever. never has and never will need a ghostwriter. that man’s pen and legacy is without question.”
And, so there it is.
Do we really need to say anything else on this topic? I hope not. While the truth is important, its also important to keep our icon just that. ICONS.
Nas has been in the game some 20 years or something crazy. He deserves more than these people are giving him. All hail. Or at least, most hail.

LMAO! First of all, Miley Cyrus is not Hip-Hop, but she unwittingly finds her way to this page because she has a beef with a member of Odd Future! Yeah, its silly and yeah, its stupid, but that’s just about everything on this Rumors Page.
So, this is why the internet was dissing Miss Cyrus.
![]()
I don’t think she looks bad at all. Just edgier.
But that didn’t stop Tyler and his groupthink diss or her lash back I scooped off Complex.com.

And in other Twitter madness…Azealia Banks cracks me UP! A part of me loves the brashness of this young nut! LOL!!!!! She went in on Flex after Flex apparently went in on her for going in on Jim Jones, who went in on her. Well…she got the last laugh after Flex attempted to pull her in to his show. LMAO…the tweeting was CLASSIC IGNORANCE! Excuse the language and thanks IFWT! LOL!

(AllHipHop News) California rap legend Tone Loc suffered a seizure during a comedy show at the Laugh Factory last night, sources said.
The rapper was attending a charity event to benefit “My Friend’s House,” an organization that helps homeless. Suddenly, he began to “flail around in his seat,” according to sources with TMZ.
The rapper reportedly struggled to breath and was sweating profusely. He was cooled down with cold water.
An ambulance was called, but the 46-year-old rapper recovered and didn’t need the paramedics.
Loc left the venue immediately and was home resting at press time.
In the past, the rapper has told authorities that he suffers from seizures. A rep for the rapper says he did not have a seizure at the Laugh Factory and that some food made him ill.
