OUT OF BOUNDS: Jones In, Merriman Done, Strayhan Stays Retired

We’re one week away from the kickoff of the 2008-09 NFL season, and as my main man Jim “J.R.” Ross would say, “Business is about to pick up

Umenyiora done for the year, Strahan stays retired

For the New York Giants, it’s a hard enough task to defend you Super Bowl championship.  Now it’s even harder when one of the major players on their defense is out for the season. Osi Umenyiora is out for the entire season with a knee injury. Umenyiora injured his knee last Saturday in a 10-7 loss to the New York Jets in their annual pre-season match-up.

When it was established that Umenyiora would be out for the remainder of the season, the Giants decided to get in touch with an old friend for a “welcome back” party. The G-men reached out to retired D-end Michael Strahan, to see if he would come out of retirement and play one more season. The Giants were willing to pay Strahan 8-12 million dollars for his return.  Strahan, who is currently signed with Fox Sports, decided to decline the offer and stay retired.

Honestly, whatever Strahan did in terms of this situation, would have been cool. You couldn’t get mad at him if he wanted to come back. It’s wasn’t like he retired and then wanted back in. He was already set to start his new life away from the game when the G-Men came a calling and he graciously turned them down.  Maybe he, who shall not be named, should take notes on how to handle certain situations in reference to making a comeback.

With Umenyiora out for the season, the G-Men moved linebacker Mathias Kiwanuka back to defensive end position. Kiwanuka played D-end at his alma mater, Boston College. That leaves a void at the linebacker position for the Giants.  Things are not looking good for the defending champs at the moment.  We’ll just have to wait and see.

Since we’re on the subject of injured D-linemen, while Osi’s season is done, another D-line on the Westside of town decided he wants play through the pain.

Merriman forgoes season ending surgery; will play in ‘08

San Diego Chargers star linebacker, Shawne Merriman, has opted out of season ending knee surgery and will play this year. Merriman, who has two torn ligaments in his left knee, feels he’s ready to play despite the diagnosis from four different doctors telling Merriman he should have the surgery and miss the season.

So you wanna be hardcore?

Look, we understand that football players are warriors and tough guys. We understand that you’re willing to put your body on the line for the good of the team. We understand that you’ll do anything you have to do in order to win that championship, but COME ON!!!!!

Dude, you’re 24 years old.  Take the surgery. You’ll miss one year of play for ten more years of longevity in the NFL. Why risk further damage? Hey if you don’t want to listen to me, then at least listen to what “The Dude” has to say about the situation:

I’m baaaack!!! Jones is reinstated

Adam Jones was fully reinstated by the NFL this Thursday. Jones, who was partially reinstated on June 2, 2008 by Commissioner Goodell, can now play in the Dallas Cowboys season opener against the Cleveland Browns at Cleveland Browns Stadium.  A humbled Adam Jones spoke to the media after he received word from the NFL offices:

Now that Jones has been reinstated to play, I truly believe that he will have a solid season. It’s going take some time for him to get his “land legs” back once he gets in the game. He’s been out of football for 17 months; you can’t get back into playing form in one month of training camp. In a couple of games he’ll be back in form and when he does, get your popcorn ready.

I believe he’s coming out this season to shut-up all of the doubters about his lay off from the game, and will give Cowboy fans one hell of a performance this season

IT’S COLD IN THE D, Pt. 4: Guilty Simpson

When Detroit-bred lyrical assassin Guilty Simpson walks down his block there are no flashing lights from cameras or gawking hysterical fans. Simpson isn’t ordinarily bombarded with ball points to sign his name upon articles of clothing, CD’s, nor body parts. But that is cool, because if it were up to him, the industry can take fame and fortune and literally, shove it where the Sun don’t shine. Relative anonymity hasn’t stopped the late J Dilla christened MC from hitting the booth hard for his hood. After releasing his 2008 solo debut Ode to the Ghetto, and being featured on numerous track listings like the Kidz In The Hall Mid West scorcher “Middle of the Map Pt. 2,” Simpson has cemented his footprint at the forefront of a creative surge for the Detroit Hip-Hop scene. The studio addict is set to pump out various collabos with Sean Price, Black Milk and is featured on Madlib’s upcoming BBE Records album. Nonetheless his hustle is proven exemplary to the solid yet still fledgling Hip-Hop movement brewing on the rugged streets of the Motor city.  AllHipHop.com: What do you bring different to the table as an artist?Guilty Simpson: I bring that balance, able to straddle the line to do whatever. Guilty is one of the few artists from Detroit that can do a song with T.I. or Young Jeezy, and in the same day do a session with Common or Black Thought. I think I am one of the artists some people don’t really know how to classify me, some of the Hip-Hop heads are like “he’s too hood” and some n****s in the hood will be like “he’s a little too lyrical, I don’t want to think when I hear this n***a rapping.” I think I am able to do both. I had an A Tribe Called Quest album and an NWA album at the same time, and nobody made me choose which side I would be on.      AllHipHop.com: So if Britney Spears was calling you up to do a collabo, you’d be down?Guilty Simpson: Hell yeah, I would pop that s**t out. But I’m going to bring her to the hood. My s**t is going to be hood, I’m not going to be on that b***h smiling and dancing. Guilty Simpson “Beast (Live)” VideoAllHipHop.com: What type of response do you feel you received from Ode to the Ghetto and were you satisfied with it? Guilty Simpson: I think the main thing is regardless of sales the record is doing pretty well. Projections with Stones Throw they are pretty satisfied with it and keep in mind that it was leaked three months in advance before my record even dropped. I’ve always considered Ode to the Ghetto, a setup record to basically give my fan base something. It is just an introduction to what is going on, but me, I’m only scratching the surface with where I want to go with it. In this game you’ve got to have short memory, whether it is highs or lows. The record came out, that’s great, I’ve been working the record, doing the things necessary to make it successful. But I’m in the lab everyday, I’m anxious to move onto my next thing because I am an artist above everything. I really want to get this music out, and let this music take care of itself. Even if it has to age and people can’t appreciate it for five years, I don’t care.  AllHiphop.com: Where do you think Detroit is as a Hip-Hop musical movement in gaining national exposure?Guilty Simpson:  Besides talking and dudes getting along we have basically accomplished that. Now that is a whole different animal when your talking about recognition because it is only a small percentage of people who recognize Detroit for what we contribute to the music industry. Mainly those are Hip-Hop purists, people who are really into the underground following. But as in a household name with the exception of Eminem and D12, a lot of people don’t even have Royce Da 5’ 9’’ as a household name. I think as a movement we are good, the thing is now that we have this unity we have to take it to that next level, where everybody is established as a household name. When I mean household name, I don’t mean 106 & Park and TRL, but legitimate s**t that is being placed on the radio, stuff that levels the playing field. I might hear my song twice a week, and I might hear The Dream, a T-Pain song, or “Lollipop” three times in an hour. It’s hard for me to become a household name when the playing field is not levelBlack Milk f/ Guilty Simpson “Sound the Alarm” VideoAllHipHop.com: Are you worried at all about the state of the industry once your name grows into becoming a household name?Guilty Simpson: No, I like that industry and all, but I just really want to find my lane. I want to do the music but I don’t really care about the fame. I want to consistently make my money and do my thing. So when I look at the industry, I want to be a part of it because I want my album to come out. But I really don’t want everything that fame entails, no privacy, motherf***ers all in your business, Mediatakeout. Basically your not able to do anything, they can keep that. My dream is to of course have a fanbase to where I can eat but I want to work out of home. I want to be judged by my music. I don’t want someone to be like “I talked to somebody in Detroit, that n***a is hood for real, he be fighting and shooting.” Even though that was my lifestyle, I don’t care about that, I’m not glorifying that, judge me as an MC. Playing a person’s record that has been shot 55 times, just because you support him being shot. But when your making excuses for supporting these artists and it has nothing to do with the music, your basically grasping for straws finding a reason to support them. Guilty Simpson “Get Riches” VideoAllHipHop.com: Many people see that cats from Detroit are not up on the movement happening in their own city as much as outsiders or purists. Why do you think this is?Guilty Simpson: I definitely don’t want to s**t on Detroit as fans, but we can get into well-known fact. Detroit is a testers market for records. From what I understand talking to different people in radio, if a song is hot in a certain region, they feel confident that no matter what that song is, they can bring it to Detroit and it will create a brush-fire. The music industry doesn’t really consider Detroit, Michigan to be a great place to break a record, because they look at the fan base as kind of fickle. You have to think about it, being in Detroit, you have some people that rock with the Hip Hop stuff, people that rock with the South stuff, some with the West Coast stuff, so when you thought about Detroit as a whole you really don’t have a common found stamped as a Detroit sound. Our listeners have a broad ear to where they like different stuff, but when it comes down to really standing behind an artist and really break them, Eminem was the biggest star in the world but it’s a fact Detroit didn’t break his records. It’s like we’re not really taking pride in our own. Guilty Simpson “Baby (Live)” (produced by J Dilla) VideoAllHiphop.com: Which producers you’ve been working with, do you feel captures the same essence of your sonic chemistry with J Dilla?Guilty Simpson: Mr. Porter, that’s my dude right there. Even when Dilla was alive, when I was going to do my record called “The Verdict,” Mr. Porter was going to have half and Dilla would have half. I definitely think his production exemplifies what I want to do, whether it is a grimey beat or a soulful beat. We definitely have that chemistry, “Ode to the Ghetto” was basically a small portion of it. Dilla taught Mr. Porter how to work an MP, so Mr. Porter is an extension of Dilla, but he is his own person in his own right. He embodies everything I try to do musically, but I can’t go wrong with a Black Milk or a Madlib either. I’m just thankful these dudes want to work with me, his clientele and schedule is so busy. He sells beats to 50 and Game and for him to take the time out to even work with me, made me instill pride in what I am doing. Because I am well aware he could be doing other things that make him multi-thousands of dollars within an hours time. Instead he was dedicating four and fives hours to work with me, and I didn’t have anything to give him. He doesn’t even smoke weed so I couldn’t even twist one and pass it to him.

IT’S COLD IN THE D, Pt. 3: Street Mode

We’re back with Part Three for all the comments about those who were left out…don’t worry, we got you. In Detroit, there is Detroit Hip-Hop, a circle of purists who almost all emerged from the Detroit Hip-Hop Shop, a now-defunct, but ever immortalized clothing store where Proof hosted legendary open mic’s. The Detroit Hip-Hop crowd is full of most of the artists who were mentioned in Part One, and all of the artists mentioned in Part Two. Then, there is the Detroit Street Hip-Hop scene. These are the artists who are almost never mentioned in national publications, unless it’s FEDS or Don Diva. They are the crowd that might have slanged a little something, and will definitely bang a little something. In the show of unity, we are reaching across the aisles to Detroit artists who deserve their just due. We are also highlighting some solo superstars who hold the city down around the world. EshamAccording to his Wikipedia page, Esham has released twelve studio albums, five EP’s, and three compilation albums. Those in the D may have seen him rolling around Metro Detroit in a Bentley before most people knew what a Bentley was. He was born in Long Island but grew up on the East side of Detroit. Esham is known for pioneering acid rap and has influenced numerous artists from Insane Clown Posse to Limp Bizkit to Korn to Eminem. His group, NATAS, which is what you think it is spelled backwards, formed with Mastamind and TNT experienced success after their debut in 1993. In the last decade and a half, Esham has been the picture of success on the independent level. His new album, Sacrifical Lambz was just released on Aug. 26th. Esham “American Psycho” Video Rock BottomRock Bottom Entertainment was founded in 1997, their debut Alligator City was released in 2000 and is reported to be the best-selling independent album in Detroit history. The album produced the classic Detroit anthem, “Gatored Up” (“Stink pink gators, my Detroit players” —Notorious BIG “Hypnotize”). The song and the album immortalized the side Detroit that doesn’t get as much attention. The current Rock Bottom roster includes Tango & Cash, Blackface, J-Nutty, and Screwface; as well as the Thug Division which features another five rappers. Rock Bottom is also where Detroit’s Big Herk arose from. Royce Da 5’9”One of the illest MCs from any city, Royce Nickel Nine is the pride of the city. After personal drama (jail time for drunk driving), career drama (being released from two major recording contracts), beef drama (his well-publicized squabble with D12 or the equally publicized but less personal rift with Mistah F.A.B.), and just plain drama, drama (breaking his arm wrestling a fan in Denmark). Royce was fortunately able to emerge baptized by the fire. He has squashed all of his beefs and is now the picture of diplomacy. Royce records and work with rappers on both sides of Detroit’s aisles, the street rappers and the Hip-Hop purists; and he gets love from both. Lyrically gifted and a genuinely good person, Royce is slowly taking a position of leadership in Detroit, which this time he is actually ready for. His new mixtape, Bar Exam 2 will be a free download available on September 9th. Royce Da 5’9” f/ Eminem “Rock City” Video”One.Be.LoOne.Be.Lo is a well-respected alternative rap artist. A native of Pontiac, an urban center 30 minutes north of Detroit, One Be Lo was known as OneManArmy when he was half of Binary Star with Senim Silla. He changed his name, discovered Islam and has since taken a higher path when it comes to creating music. His new album, The R.E.B.I.R.T.H. (Real Emcees Bring Intelligent Rhymes To Hip-Hop) was released in 2007. Made WestFounded in 2001, Made West Entertainment is one of the hot rap crews in the Dirty District. Featuring Dutch Maddog, Dirty, Helluva, and Gunsmoke, Made West throws numerous parties in Detroit and their music is supported by DJ’s. Their first album, We Here Now! Vol. 1, a compilation features numerous local and national artists. Made West f/ Daz Dillinger “I Need My Doe”The Eastside Chedda BoyzThe Chedda Boy name is one of the most confusing disputes in Detroit hip hop history. The Eastside Chedda Boyz, Malik, Tuff Tone, Lil’ Dre, Lil’ Baby, and Wipeout, their leader who was murdered along with an innocent bystander outside a Detroit night club in 2004. Two days later, Blade Icewood a leader of the Street Lord Chedda Boys was shot, and paralyzed, he was fatally shot again seven months later. The beef and the claim to the “Chedda Boy” name was a difficult time in Detroit Hip-Hop. The loss of two important local artists and the resulting crippling of their once-popular crews only reinforced the fact that violence is never the answer. Al NukeOne of the first Detroit artists to make serious inroads promoting his music in Windsor, Ontario, Al Nuke is a promotional genius. He is well respected for very often making the right move first and always doing the next big thing. As a film director, actor, and producer he co-wrote and produced 17000 Block, a DVD docu-drama that featured numerous Detroit artists, selling over 300,000 copies across the world.  He is also the host of the popular local video and interview show, Nuke at Night.Al Nuke: 17000 The Movie TrailerElzhiThere are dope lyricists and then, there is Elzhi. Added to Slum Village in 2001 but that was not where his career began, he released his own EP in 1998, Out of Focus, it was re-released with new material in 2004 as Witness My Growth, a double CD. As a member of SV, replacing J Dilla, he shined on Trinity and Detroit Deli. El has also been a member of The Breakfast Club, a short-lived but influential local rap group. Elzhi is also a partner in Libido Sounds, a record label founded with Nick Speed. Elzhi has performed on tracks for many, many artists both domestic and international. His lyrical prowess is unquestionable. He has a hit song out called, “Motown 25” with Royce da 5’9”, a fusion project called Cold Steel in the works with Phat Kat, and a brand new solo album The Preface which was just released on Fat Beats. Elzhi “Motown 25” & “That’s The One (LIVE)” Video

ALBUM REVIEW: Karina Pasian – First Love

At 17, Karina Pasian is the latest in a line of young, soulful girls molded in the Alicia Keys pattern and unleashed on the Pop/R&B market with the typical tools. Piano virtuoso? Check. Legendary backing? Check (in the form of godfather of Quincy Jones). Amazing debut album? Eh…Karina does have talent, and while little on her debut First Love stands out, it isn’t a bad test-run for the new face. She tries on a few different outfits, starting with the sexy, auto-tuned dance number (“90’s Baby”) and then moving to sweet Piano-Pop (“Can’t Find the Words”). She handles both sides believably enough and makes a solid vocal presentation, but she doesn’t succeed at making any of the tracks her own.The emotional and mature title track stands at a sharp contrast to a single like “16 @ War,” clearly aimed directly at the Top 40 crowd. Both get the job done on their own, but as a whole, it’s hard to get a picture of who Karina is supposed to be since she doesn’t seem to have decided herself.Given her youth, Karina’s musical identity crisis is understandable, and it’s still entirely possible that she’ll go on to do big things. If she does though, First Love will probably be more of a footnote in her career. Feel free to give it a listen to say you did, but a single spin is probably all it’ll take to get the full picture. Nevertheless, not bad for a first attempt. 16 @ War – Karina Pasian

Really, John McCain? (Or Are You On That Drank?)

Really, John McCain…Really?

When I woke up Friday morning, I wanted to revel in the

History was Barack Obama. The night before, I gazed at the television screen

proudly as he accepted the Democratic Nomination for President of the United States of America.

The only problem is, when I finally got up from my slumber, I

was irritated into a splitting headache by Republican John McCain.

This guy strategically decides to announce his running mate

the day after Barack’s landmark speech. But that’s not what bothered me. It is

who he picked.

McCain introduced first-term Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his

vice presidential running mate early morning Friday, an act of contempt in my

eyes.

“She’s exactly who I need. She’s exactly who this

country needs to help me fight the same old Washington politics of ‘Me first and country

second,’ ” McCain said.

Really, McCain…Really?

I know you are fond of younger women, so perhaps this is

what you need, but is this truly what the country needs?

You picked a 44-year-old, inexperienced a** mother of five,

Tina Fey-looking, gun-toting, moose-skinning Alaskan for the vice presidency of

the United States.

Really, McCain…Really?

So, what you have given America is a potentially disastrous

quandary…an apocalyptic quagmire if you will.

You are a 72-year-old damaged war hero running for president

and opt for a younger-less-experienced-and-less-inspirational-than-Barack vice

presidential aspirant. I don’t think you drank any of the super serum that

powered Captain America

so it is possible that you could die in office. You might have drank some of

that Houston

drank making political missteps like this.

Furthermore, analysts say that U.S. presidents age about seven

years faster than the rest of us due to the rigors of the gig. So, in theory,

your senior tail could be exactly “100 years old” at the end of a four year term in

office. (This doesn’t take into consideration a whole eight year possibility)

DUDE.

The thought of having a 44-to-48 year old first-term governor

running America

is as scarier than driving high with DMX and Amy Winehouse. You had cancer four

times, my brother! You’re scaring the mess out of me.

So, is that was America needs or just you?

You seem to think you have tapped into the presumed disgusted

and disenchanted legions of females that didn’t see their dreams come to

fruition. Do you think this relative unknown is the republican Hillary Rodam

Clinton? I think she is the Bizzarro Hillary – her opposite! Clue: this lady isn’t

a Clinton or Geraldine Ferraro crazy a** either.

There are so many questions that I have of you. Here are a few.

You just met your pal Palin in February. What did she do to

impress you so much in six months to bestow her with such an honor? I feel you

have truly insulted females all over the nation by suggesting that this woman

represents some quantum leap of progress. Hillary Clinton is a leap of

progress, as was Geraldine, even though I cannot stand her.

Another question: Did you just scream, “Hail, Mary!” and throw Sarah

Palin’s fairly unknown name out there like, “I hope American goes for this crazy

s**t in November, because I don’t know what else to do with this Obama dude.” Or

was it, “Women (including women that opposed just about everything else Palin stands for) are just gonna vote for her because she is a woman! Yay! They

hate Barack!”

I love the strength of the female spirit, but I have to ask

you another pertinent question.

Not seem sexist, but how does a self described “hockey mom

from Alaska” function

in a vice-presidential or presidential capacity?  She considered herself a longshot for

the VP and will contend with balancing five kids, a husband, Iraq, Iran, and, oh yeah, turning America around.

Hey, Micckey, Did you read what I read from the Associated Press? If not, check it:

Alaska‘s former public safety director says he was

fired in July by Palin after he refused to dismiss the governor’s former

brother-in-law, who had been accused of making threats during a messy custody

batle with Palin’s sister. A state probe of the allegation is due to be

completed a week before the general election.

Hillary Clinton left 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling,

my dude? You let her say that to the ladies on your big day?

Really, McCain…Really?

I don’t know what you all are trying to pull, but get it

together.

Bow out.

Cut this mess out right now and let Chi-town Obama and Delaware

Biden win and you and Pal get out of the way of this movement.

You are going to get us all killed or run American into the

ground worse than we already are with these nutty hijinks!

No way, no how…No McCain! (Word to Hillary.)

OK?

Just NO.Epilogue: I still haven’t forgiven the real Tina Fey for that “b***h is the new Black” mess so I’m not rockin’ with the look-a-like.

Rappers Talk Obama, Politics And Future

In the wake of Barack Obama’s historic Democrat nominee acceptance speech, the stars of Hip-Hop are voicing their opinion of what the moment means for them and the responsibility of the culture moving towards the November 4 general election.

Last night in Denver, Barack Obama officially accepted the Democrat nomination for president of the United States, a feat coming on the 45th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream Speech.”

Obama sought to immediately create distinction between his policies and that of his opponent John McCain, blasting his rival on healthcare, the economy, his support of President Bush, and for being out of touch with middle-class America.

“It’s not because John McCain doesn’t care,” Obama stated. “It’s because John McCain doesn’t get it…It’s time for us to change America and that’s why I’m running for President of the United States.”

Bun B, who plans to also attend the Republican National Convention, reviewed the importance of Hip-Hop culture having a visible presence at each convention.

“I’m out here to show my support for the process. I think people get caught up in the party and the politics,” Bun explained to AllHipHop.com. “I’m here to show Hip-Hop’s support for the process. It’s important for people to see that Hip-Hop cares and is showing responsibility. And that our voice matters in this election.”

Fellow Houston rapper Chamillionaire was awed by the event and humbled to witness history.

“The imagery and message behind Obama’s speech was more powerful than any that I have ever seen in my lifetime,” an inspired Chamillionaire told AllHipHop.com. “It’s really refreshing to see history unfold like this.”

Not everyone was won over by Obama’s eloquent words and policy points.

Reggaeton star Daddy Yankee remained firm in his endorsement of John McCain, who he feels has a stronger track record with the Hispanic community.

“I am here to endorse Senator McCain because I believe in his ideals and his proposals to lead this nation,” Daddy Yankee stated yesterday at a Phoenix appearance with McCain. “And like I said before, he has been a fighter for the Hispanic community, and I know that for me personally, I chose him as the best candidate because he has been a fighter for the immigration issue.”

Viewing the political process through the lens of a father, Rev. Run chose to focus on Obama’s family as the foundation that made his ascent a reality.

“I feel ultimately that the love he has at home is what made last night possible, because the love of family is what all of us need to tap into if we’re going to help Obama reshape America,” Run reasoned. “I know it and Obama knows it; nothing can help make your dreams come true more than a loving family.”

Dr. Ben Chavis, CEO of the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network, analyzed the moment by crafting Obama as the potential bridge between the Civil Rights Movement and Hip-Hop culture.

“His speech transcended status-quo politics, race, and divisive ideology. Obama’s address, in the vein of Dr. King, was one of the greatest and most impactful speeches of the 21st century,” Dr. Chavis disclosed to AllHipHop.com. “From a Hip-Hop perspective, Obama’s speech was hot; it was the new America speech and it powerfully reverberated a new vibe about the reality that now is the responsible time to change America and the world into a better place.”

Rapper and activist David Banner was more direct his analysis, stating that Obama simply did what no presidential candidate in his lifetime has done; show a backbone.

“Obama showed America that he wasn’t no punk,” Banner affirmed. “He showed his strength by addressing what people viewed as his weaknesses. He didn’t run from them. I’ve never seen a Presidential candidate do that.”

While many focused on the bullet point details of the speech, Banner emphasized that he was more impressed by the Democrat nominee’s poise in a moment rife with staggering emotion, which in turn helped illuminate the stark alternative he represents to the Republican party.

“Most black orators are often too emotional and wear their hearts on their sleeves. I was impressed that you could see the passion in Obama’s eyes, but it didn’t weaken what he was actually conveying,” Banner explained. “Please Hip-Hop generation don’t take this election lightly…get out and vote.”

Presumptive Republican nominee John McCain will make his own presidential case on September 1 through September 4 in Saint Paul, Minnesota at the Republican National Convention.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Pepa’s Error! Robin Thicke Claims Racism? New Yung Berg Diss!?

DISCLAIMER:

All content within this section is pure rumor and generally have no factual info outside of what the streets have whispered in our ear. Read on.

BARACK!

Tell me that wasn’t historic?

I just love how the media has ALREADY attempted to undercut his efforts! It’s all to the good. History was made and will continue to be made. I know it is going to be a dogfight going forward, but I cannot fathom reasonable Americans electing McCain over Barack. The operative word is reasonable. You know, the same people that elected and re-elected G.W. are still allowed to vote. Anyway. No hate to anybody. Let’s keep it moving to some news and some rumors. 80-84 THOUSAND PEOPLE! Sorry…my bad!

BONE THUGS OR BIZZY?

I thought Bong Thugs – N- Harmony were working on a reunion album? Now I am hearing that there may be a delay because Bizzy Bone “the most unique member of Bone Bong Thugs – N- Harmony” is working on a new album and is planning to tour in support of it. Make now mistake about it, Bone is holed up in the studio working, but Bizzy has busted out with a new CD and tour all by himself. I think they need to hol’ dat and break out with the whole tour.

OOOPS – PEPA MADE A MISTAKE!

I don’t know if you all know, but Pepa has written a book recently called, “Lets Talk About Pep.” Well, in the book, there is a person named Brad and Brad is a person in the music game that gets into a relationship with Pep. Well, anybody that knows anything, can deduce who dude is, but…there is a twist. I am hearing that when you get to the picture section of the book, it identifies Brad as Treach of Naughty By Nature. Now, I believe this was a mistake in the publishing of the book and the error will be fixed. In the meantime, I heard the book is really good and really speaks on a lot of stuff we didn’t know about her. But, what is Treach going to say about these recent allegations, where she charges he wasn’t so nice to her? Well, Treach has been a standup dude in the sense of reppin’ Hip-Hop so I hope this doesn’t get too messy.

Here is what Pep recently told Essence magazine:

ESSENCE: That’s truly a blessing. In your book you say that your decision to change your patterns with abusive relationships had to do with your son, Tyran, and Egypt, your daughter with Treach. Did they ever witness the physical abuse and question you about it?

PEPA: No, never physical, but they were often present during yelling and screaming matches. People forget that verbal abuse is equally unhealthy. My kids used to see me crying and depressed all the time, and that can affect kids as well.

MASTER P IS COMING FOR BET!

Master P makes no mistake about it. He is going for the neck of BET. Just the name: BBT is a slight to the oldest Black TV network. Oh, for those that didn’t know, Master P…I mean P. Miller has started Better Black TV.  Here is their mission statement.

Better Black Television Mission Statement:

Better Black Television (BBTV) is committed to being a leading African-American multimedia entertainment company by establishing a distinct, valued, trusted, and socially responsible consumer brand within the African-American and multi-ethnic, English-speaking marketplace. We plan to accomplish this mission by delivering quality, family oriented entertainment and information to the quickly growing urban consumer base of our target audience through the use of television and Internet resources.

ILLSEED’S QUICKIES

Did you hear my girl Kelly Rowland spent $400,000 at a party in St. Tropez on the French Riviera? Whoa! Ballin! I heard this was only a 10 hour party.

Remy Ma has a friend in C-Murder. You might have heard that he will help Remy transition to regular life when she gets out of jail. Papoose reportedly hit him up for some advice. C-Murder still has an open case himself.

Rapper Fat Joe has reportedly called Daddy Yankee a “sell out” for publicly endorsing U.S. presidential candidate John McCain. Shout out to Fat Joe. Dude said he’s a Yankee and not like the New York one.

I hope Ruben Studdard has his money right. He has to pay the government close to $200,000 in back taxes.

There were a lot of stars out there in Denver, but I heard Robin Thicke and wife Paula Patton were there hand in hand with all the common folk.

ROBIN THICKE CLAIMS RACISM!?

Somebody sent me this link from bossip.com, where Robin Thicke claims that he hasn’t been able to get the cover of Vibe even though he’s a viable artist. Here you go.

“When I did a recent interview with Vibe magazine I asked, “Why can’t I get the cover? This is a magazine I love. If there’s one magazine that I’d want to be on the cover of, it’s Vibe.” Their response was they don’t have white artists on the cover; that the only white artist they’ve had on the cover was Eminem. I guess if that’s what it is, it is what it is. And I respect that because I live in a house with a black woman.

I won’t use the word “racism.” I will say it’s a tough — but rewarding —fight. I look at Mary J. Blige, somebody who has had only a few pop hits and yet has changed culture, generated new sounds and inspired leagues of artists. She’s now a worldwide phenomenon. And it’s because of what she stood for; she never gave up. She kept making great music, pouring her heart out to people.

You can’t always expect people to be as color-blind or open-minded as you want. What you can do is keep giving your heart and soul, like Bob Marley did. His music became so overwhelmingly loving; it was a relentless love in a sense. Keep beating them down with love and they can’t stop you.”

SIGNS THE WORLD IS COMING TO AN END

A babysitter is hired to protect the children that he or she watches. Well, we found a babysitter that gave the kids to her ex husband so he could have sex and make child p### with them. Is that what you call a ride or die chick? These sick puppies gave kids as young as three months old some sick treatment. Now, the sitter has already plead guilty to manufacturing child p###. That will get the sitter Concetta Jackson no less than 15 years in the bing. Now, here is the sickest part. Her ex John Jackey Worman, 41, of Colwyn (REMEMBER THAT NAME). He reportedly had oral and vaginal sex with the INFANTS supplied by the sitter. This dude had about 1.2 MILLION images of child pornography on dude computers and equipment. We are talking about a sicko that had  11,000 videos of HIMSELF sexually doing it with kids. There is so much more, but I don’t want to disgust you anymore.

SIGNS-PART TWO

Got Parents?

YUNG BERG DISS RECORD

At this point, I feel bad for Yung Berg. The poor kid. He’s just a kid. Pro-Blak, a Chicago Artist, puts salt in the wound.

BARACK’S ACCEPTANCE SPEECH

DIDDY IS ACTING UP!

What is Diddy complaining about? He’s crying about flying commercial, because gas prices are too high. What I have to ask is: WHAT HAPPENED TO CITIZEN CHANGE and all that Vote or Die stuff? Anyway, I find it odd that during this historic time…I ain’t even gonna finish.

SKILLZ SPEAKS THE TRUTH

Skillz is going in on Diddy, Jay-Z – talking about New York not letting other artists in.

WE NEED A PRESIDENT

Check out this video from The Napalm Clique. They have this song called “We Need A President (Its Obama).” I think it’s a cool song.

Stevie Wonder performing at the DNC Now on to the foolishness….. WTF……T Pain Remixes a Kirk Franklin Song! Just when we thought T Pain could go no further the machine man himself has remixed a gospel song! Which would be great if the song held the same meaning but from what I hear the song has a worldly meaning! T Pain has taken Kirk Franklin’s ‘Silver and Gold’ and remixed it to describe Patrón “Silver and Gold”. Read this foolishness via MTV: Pain cut called “Silver and Gold” leaked to the Internet a few months back, with the Tallahassee, Florida, native singing about the effects of blending clear and colored Patrón tequila together for consumption. “You’ll be hanging, swanging, drinking two types of Patrón,” he sings. “I done mixed up silver and gold/ I done mixed up silver and gold/ I’mma tryin’ to get drunk before this party/ Somebody’s gonna have to carry me home/ I done drank the silver and gold.” While Pain’s following ate it up, non-secular-music kingpin Kirk Franklin had to put a call into the young singer. Franklin debuted the original “Silver and Gold” on his 1993 Kirk Franklin and the Family album. The gospel version goes: “Silver and gold/ Silver and gold/ I’d rather have Jesus than silver and gold/ No fame or fortune/ Nor riches untold/ I’d rather have Jesus than silver and gold.”  Pure folly! Solange Clears up her F*Ck Up!

TI Deserves a round of applause….. Why you ask? Because his single ‘Whatever you Like’ jumped from Billboards #71 on top 100 singles to #1 in a matter of three weeks! Making history as the biggest jump to the top of the Billboard Hot 100.  The record breaking 205,000 downloads is the reason for the record-setting Hot 100 move. Surpassing the leap from No. 64 to No. 1 that Maroon 5’s “Makes Me Wonder” took in May 2007. His single marks the best by a rap track since Nielsen SoundScan began compiling download data in 2003. We all know TI’s new album Paper Trail will be available Sept. 30th! So TI fans stand up! Talk about a comeback, I’m not even a TI fan but got to give him respect for this one;-)It’s a Wrap… Jay Z Sells his 40/40 Vegas Club! So a while back the rumors section reported that Jay Z was in talks about selling his 40/40 Vegas club! Well it seems some rumors do come true because confirmation has been made that the rapper has sold the club for an undisclosed sum. I hear that the 40/40 name and any association with Jay will be terminated also.  In a statement released yesterday Jay said  “The sale is a great business decision, we are delighted. We look forward to expanding the brand even further to Chicago and Tokyo  Hmmm… can we expect those to go up for sale as well or….. I’ll leave that alone just a thought! In any event I hear that while Jay and others seem to say the sale was for good purposes others believe it was due to heavy financial losses. Mmmm…hmmmm….Lady Drama’s Food For Thought: Even amidst all the drama and chaos in the world today after watching the DNC ceremonies aren’t you just that more hopeful that ANYTHING is possible? Speaking of hopeful…If DMX can get off why is REMY locked up? Video Break: Happy 50th Birthday Michael Jackson!

Michael Jackson is a half-century old. Think about it. That’s a long time to be moonwalking this Earth, considering MJ began performing as a little kid. Regardless of what’s occurred on the sidelines of Michael Jackson’s career, he is still that dude whose style is consistently emulated. From the voice to the clothing to the advanced dance moves, Michael Jackson had that star quality from the moment he rocked the Ed Sullivan Show with his brothers. Since then, his global following is nothing short of a cultural phenomenon. Singers, dancers, rappers – all guilty of swagger jacking the King of Pop. Scanning the videos of present day artists, their whole beings are a reflection of Michael’s hayday. As we celebrate the born day of Michael Jackson, let’s remember some of his finest moments. Whether live or in studio, Mike is the King. Few artists can match his legacy. Happy Birthday!“Billie Jean” Live“Bad”“Beat It”“Scream” featuring Janet Jackson“Remember the Time”“Thriller”

AHH Stray News: Luda ‘Dreams Pink’; Supports Breast Cancer Awareness

Hip-Hop star Ludacris will lend support to an upcoming breast cancer awareness event being held in conjunction with the WNBA’s Atlanta Dream women’s basketball team. The “Dream Pink” basketball game takes place August 29 and has already sold over 9,000 tickets, as fans will watch the Atlanta Dream square off against the Connecticut Sun, at Philips Arena. In addition to Ludacris’ appearance, Jarvis, the latest singer signed to Disturbing Tha Peace, will be the featured halftime performance. The day is also special for Ludacris, who is a fan UNC alumni and Dream point guard Ivory Latta. “I have been a long time fan and supporter of Ivory Latta since she was at North Carolina,” Ludacris told AllHipHop.com in a statement. “She is a little sister and family to me. It is even greater that she plays for an Atlanta team. I want to be there to show my love and support for the Atlanta Dream, Ivory Latta, the city of Atlanta and my artist Jarvis.” The “Dream Pink” game tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm.

Soulja Boy Tell’Em: Hear Me Out

This interview went down before Lawrence Parker “welcomed” Soulja Boy Tell’Em to Hip-Hop. That’s cool and all, but the jury is still out for most rap listeners and Hip-Hop fans. Well, maybe not the three million that copped, and all that danced, to his “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” single. But no matter where you stand on the Soulja Boy as legit artist argument, the young lad handles his business. He insists his as yet untitled follow up to his 2007 proper debut, souljaboytellem.com, is going to “kill.” Then there’s his deal with Yums shoes for Soulja Boy designed kicks, a cartoon called, wait for it, Soulja Boy Tell’Em and whatever else he has his enterprising sights on (film, clothing). Besides the too typical rap as a means to get paid ambition, there is also that let’s say, riff, with Ice-T over the OGs comments on Soulja Boy killing Hip-Hop. While both sides of the Soulja Boy as Hip-Hop Murderer debate rage on, what is undeniable is the now 18 year old’s confidence. Either way, only time—and more hits—will tell whether DeAndre Cortez “ Soulja Boy” Way will leave a lasting imprint in the rap game or be relegated to footnote status. Read how he tells it.  AllHipHop.com: Tell me about this deal with Yum Shoes, how did it come together?Soulja Boy: I was on tour earlier this year with Chris Brown and Bow Wow, we was doing the UPC tour and we had a show in Dallas, Texas. You know I did the “My Dougie Remix” with Lil Will and when we was down there they were rocking the Yums and I ain’t know the Yum company was a Dallas based company. So I was like, Man can you get me in contact with one of the dudes…so got in contact with the owner and two weeks later the deal was done and we’re getting in crazy orders for them man. Finish Line, Jimmy Jazz everyone, and basically that’s how that whole situation came about.Lil Will f/ Soulja Boy Tell’Em “My Dougie” VideoAllHipHop.com: And how’s the shoe gonna work, are you designing?Soulja Boy: Actually I already designed both of my shoes the first year I designed was the Soulja boy shoe, the next shoe I designed was the S.B Money shoe and the Soulja Boy shoe is releasing in November, the S.B shoe releases early in 2009 like January, February and both of the shoes is crazy though. I just went in and processed this crazy shoe like what would I buy if I went inside of a sneaker shop, you know what I’m saying, and that was it.AllHipHop.com: Now, what’s up with this cartoon you got coming in November how’s that coming together?Soulja Boy: I was thinking to myself like I always wanted to do a video game or do a TV show and actually I didn’t want to do no reality show. I had a lot of offers for reality shows, I turned them down. I was like I wanna do a cartoon. I’d went to label and talked to Jimmy [Iovine] and he’s like well let’s make it happen let’s see if the idea for it so the first one we did was like the Lebron James just to check it out and we showed it to Jimmy he liked it, he got a good response so we got the creators and they’re working on it – the animators. I told them how I want it to look, when it comes out it’s gonna be stupid. I ain’t just want another regular cartoon, actually what this cartoon is this cartoon’s living inside of the real world so it’s gon’ be different, it’s gon’ be cartoons talking to real people, you know you don’t see that on TV I think we’re the first ones doing this so we’ll see how it turns out.AllHipHop.com: Does the cartoon have a title yet?Soulja Boy: Well I’m aiming for Soulja Boy Tell’em. We had two different ideas first I wanted to call it Bad Little Homies then I wanted to call it Soulja Boy Tell’em so I think we’re gonna stick with Soulja Boy Tell’em.AllHipHop.com: What’s going on with your next album, how far along are you?Soulja Boy: I got a record [“Donk”]. I got that in the streets right now, I just shot a video for it, got it on MTV. And I just did that to help me boil over into the second album which is my new project and it’s gonna be crazy, I went in with Polow for the first single so the first single is bananas. Like I don’t really wanna give it out but once it comes out it’s gon’ be stupid.Soulja Boy “Donk” VideoAllHipHop.com: Do you have a title?Soulja Boy: Nah, nah. [Laughs]. But it’s gonna be crazy, it’s like once it comes out it’s gonna take over just remember what I told you on this interview.AllHipHop.com: How involved is [Mr.] Collipark have in the recording/creation of the album?Soulja Boy: I ain’t work with Collipark yet. I got like 35 tracks, I just gotta pick the top ones but this album I really did myself, he wasn’t really in on this album. I went in and did the record with Polow myself and that was a crazy record, the first single, and then on all the other records I went out with different producers. The first album I did 90 percent [of the] production and this album I said I would look out. I produced Bow Wow’s first single [“Marco Polo”] so I told him hop on my album, I went and got that, I got Sean Kingston, Arab he on the first album so basically it’s just like the first album, I did what I did and I turn it in.Bow Wow f/ Soulja Boy Tell’Em “Marco Polo” VideoAllHipHop.com: Is there any update as far as your tiff or situation with Ice-T?Soulja Boy: Oh, yeah yeah, the situation with Ice-T. Comments were made and opinions were stated and basically I put out a video with me replying to everything and then that was it basically. After that I guess it was over with. AllHipHop.com: Kanye West came out and supported you…Soulja Boy: Yeah, yeah Kanye came to my defense I was like that’s what’s up, good looking out you know what I’m saying ‘cause Soulja Boy Tell’em is misunderstood by some people. I’m just gonna do my thing and I’ma just let me do me and whoever don’t like it, do y’all. Leave me out of y’all’s mouth.  AllHipHop.com: Now Kanye even went as far to compare you to Nas, what’d you think of that?Soulja Boy: Comparing me to Nas…nah. I don’t think I’m anything like Nas. I don’t think Soulja Boy and Nas need to be in the same sentence so I’m totally different from Nas. I guess what he was trying to say is he was trying to break it down in a different way. Some people didn’t understand, you know, there it is again being misunderstood, so I don’t know. But if he talking about music wise or rap wise or whatever, nah I ain’t nothing like Nas.AllHipHop.com: Obviously, people always start to say you hear the talk oh he’s a one hit wonder or he’s talking rap music how do you deal with that on a day to day? Does it really bother you or you zone it out?Soulja Boy: Man, I be busy you know what I’m saying… I be cutting checks, I be cashing checks. I’m working man; stuff like that, it really don’t get to me. At this level I couldn’t ask for more. One year ago I was nowhere now where I’m at now man if you were in my shoes those kind of comments when you wouldn’t even fear none of that. Once you get on a certain level all the hate is irrelevant, it goes away with what you have. The power that I got is amazing. You think of stuff that you probably never thought you’d see in life once you get to a certain level, a lot of stuff changes a whole lot of stuff changes especially last year.AllHipHop.com: I guess as far as the sound I haven’t heard anything but with this new album is there any change to your method?Soulja Boy: Man, I’ma go head and tell you know this new album is gonna kill. The numbers that I put up the first album, you know I went platinum three times, platinum on “Crank That” like five million ringtones…this album is just to kill ‘em. I’m comin’ back and I know the number one question is, What is Soulja Boy gonna do next, how he ‘gon come back? And when I drop they’re gonna be like, Man he did it again. A lot of people are gonna be like, damn!AllHipHop.com: You sound like you’re a confident dude were you this confident before “Crank That” took off, or was it like you saw what you could do and built it up or was it already in you?Soulja Boy: I mean I ain’t cocky or nothing like that I just look at it as doing it. I look at it as doing it for the right reasons, if you do it for the wrong reasons. This is what I do. So like before I got signed before “Crank That” came out I was doing shows all around the United States, I was getting like ten stacks a show before I got on. Once I got on radio shows I was like I’ma do it for free; I started doing promotional shows but like I been knew that I could do it ’cause I have talent and because of all the fans I had and I wasn’t even signed. I just took it to the next level and now I’m doing it on a whole ‘nother level like I’m going to London, going to Paris, copping shoe deals; this is what I love to do and I’ma do it until I accomplish everything that’s on my list of goals to accomplish.AllHipHop.com: What’s on that list?Soulja Boy: On that list.I still ain’t did the movie yet, I still ain’t did the video game yet. I’m doing the cartoon, I did the shoe deal, I ain’t did the clothing line yet and it’s a couple more things on there. I got my platinum plaque, I’m trying to go platinum in every country man, I’m tryna do it big. I’m just trying to take over everything man and I think one day I’ma see if they realize once I’ve done everything it’s gonna be an achievement.

Ice Cube Debuts At #1; T.I. Sets Billboard Record

Gangsta and political rap pioneer Ice Cube displayed his independent strength once again, as the veteran’s eighth solo album Raw Footage debuted #1 on Billboard’s Rap and R&B Chart and #5 on the Top 200.

The set sold 69, 234 copies its first week and is on pace to duplicate Cube’s previous effort Laugh Now, Cry Later, which was the highest selling independent Hip-Hop release of 2006.

Ice Cube, who was pleased with the public’s reception, said that he was inspired by the economic woes that are ravaging the United States.

“I made this record to talk about what is going on in the world today,” Ice Cube explained to AllHipHop.com. “We are dealing with a recession, and I know a lot of people feel helpless in a way. I consciously decided to try to give a voice to those who feel voiceless in the world.”

T.I. also set a record this week with his new single “Whatever You Like,” which catapulted from #71 to #1 on the Hot 100 Chart, the biggest one week leap in Billboard history.

Produced by Jim Jonsin, the track is also #1 on the Hot Digital Charts Songs list, posting first week figures of 205,000 downloads.

T.I.’s sixth studio Paper Trail is due in stores September, and contains guest spots from Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Usher, Justin Timberlake, Usher, Rihanna, John Legend, and Fall Out Boy.

The Last Word: Chante Moore Reveals How Diddy Jacked Her Song, R Kelly Back In Court For South African Tour Scam, and Terrence Howard Reveals Stalking Past

What’s up, everybody? Happy Labor

Day weekend. We’ve reached the end of another five days, as we witnessed

history being made with Barack Obama officially accepting the Democratic

Party’s nomination to become President (was there any other significant thing

that went down this week?)

R.I.P to Aaliyah, who left us too

soon seven years ago Monday (Aug. 25). Shout out to Michael Jackson, who

celebrates his birthday today, and the sounding boards for keeping up the work.

And now today’s special…The Last

Word for the week ending Aug. 29, 2008

1. Maxwell Promises a Black

Summers’ Night

Looks like Maxwell’s performance

of “Simply Beautiful” during the BET Awards’ Al Green tribute wasn’t a fluke

after all. I don’t know how or what’s got him motivated, but the singer is

coming back to regain his status in R&B and neo-soul.

Not only is the 35-year-old

crooner putting together a trilogy of albums titled Black Summer’s Night, he is personally guaranteeing his resurfacing by

embarking on his first tour in six years. The outing, which kicks off Oct. 8 in

Boston, will stop off in New York City and Los Angeles before concluding Nov.

21 in Philadelphia.

As it stands now, there is no

release date for Black Summer’s Night,

nor any additional information on the project, a spokesperson told Billboard. With Maxwell coming out of hiding and hints of D’Angelo

hitting the studio, it looks to be an interesting future in store for us music

fans. But this three-album project does have to make you wonder if this means

that it will be more than half a decade before Maxwell blesses us with another

music offering.

Three albums can definitely keep

your name out there for a good minute or five. Maybe Maxwell should team up

with D’Angelo for a new collaborative album and a tour called Lost and Found,

because after they drop their albums, we may never hear from these guys again

until VH1 digs them up for whatever reality show they create on long lost

R&B greats.

2. John Legend Reveals Origin

of Name; Shares Music Wisdom

With a pair of multi-platinum

albums and five Grammy awards, it’s a safe bet to say that things are working

out for John Legend, who is preparing to release his third album, Evolver, in October.

While fame comes with a ton of

fans and potential women to spend his spare time with, the singer is grateful

for the ups and downs he experienced on the way to stardom while getting people

to lend an ear to listen to his music.

“…that whole grind is just part

of how you get discovered, how you develop yourself as a performer,” Legend

told MTV News while counting Jazmine Sullivan, Jill Scott, Bilal and Kanye West

among those who hustled like him to be a household name. “I think it makes

everything I do now more worth it, because I put in all that time and all that

effort.”

Obviously the grind paid off, but

would you believe that Legend was close to embracing his star status under his

government name, John Stephens?

“John Legend is a nickname that

some friends started calling me, and it kind of grew into my stage name,” the

crooner admitted. “Legend is something that I never would have chosen for

myself originally. It grew to the point where more people in my circle would

know me by that name than by my real name. I had to make a decision.”

“I was just like, ‘You know what?

Let’s just go for it. People are going to pay attention and I’m going to either

live up to my name or I’m not,’” Legend continued. “My bet was on me trying to

live up to the name.”

And the rest they say is history.

3. Chante Moore Gets Song

Jacked by Diddy

You gotta hand it to P. Diddy.

He’ll do anything for his woman. Even it means taking a potential hit song from

one artist and giving it to the apple of his year.

Just ask Chante Moore. In an

interview with NPR’s Tony Cox, the songbird revealed that her Rodney

Jerkins-produced song “If I Gave Love,” was slated to be the follow-up to her

hit “Chante’s Got a Man.” But those plans went south after Moore’s record label

realized a similar song Jerkins crafted for Diddy’s then girlfriend, Jennifer

Lopez, was slated to be the first single for the actress/singer/dancer’s debut

album On the 6.

“We should have been aggressive

instead of backing off our single,” Moore admitted. “And we backed off of it

because J. Lo had such a machine at the time. We should have just stepped out.”

Needless to say, Jenny Lo found

success with the tune, which was renamed “If You Had My Love” and specifically

requested by Diddy.

“I heard that it was because Puff

Daddy walked in and heard my song and said, ‘I want that song.’ [Rodney] was

like, ‘Yeah, it’s already taken. We wrote that for Chante,’” the 41-year-old

vocalist recalled. “And [Puffy] was like, ‘Yeah, mmm hmm, I want that song.’ So

Rodney wrote really the same song,”

Despite the shady business, Moore

has moved on with her latest album Love The Woman. The release features the first single, which is

ironically titled “It Ain’t Supposed To Be This Way.”

Maybe it’s me, but since this all

went down in 1999, do you think that Chante is still “bitter.” Don’t be

surprised to find J. Lo stranded in the middle of the block starring in the

video to her rival’s new cut, called “Chante Beats that A**.” That triathlon

training may come in handy for matters like these.

4. R. Kelly Encounters South

African Legal Situation

Why does it seem like court cases

and R. Kelly go together like Batman and the Joker?

According to media sources,

everyone’s favorite (il)legal crooner is once again at the center of another

episode as he gets set to be questioned by police, who feel he made more than $130,000

in profits from a touring scam in South Africa in 2005. All this without

setting foot in the country to perform!

Authorities want to speak to Kelly

after they confirmed that the person behind the scam, Busiswe Zakwe, deposited

money into his personal bank account. E! Online reports the confirmation was

reached after police found a deposit slip in Zakwe’s office that proved the

transaction took place. Although they confirmed that the bank accounts match,

authorities admit that they are unsure where the money is. Which is why they

want to bring Kells in for questioning.

Zakwe, is accused of milking

thousands of dollars out of investors, who she tricked them in to believing

that they could reap the benefits of ticket sales if Kells performed in the

country. The scammer, who was charged with fraud, is expected to appear in

court on Sept. 10.

Kelly, who has denied having any

knowledge of the scam, released a statement on Tuesday (Aug. 26), saying:

“There is absolutely no truth

to the reports that R. Kelly received money from a South African woman accused

of swindling investors by convincing them to invest in a non-existent R. Kelly

tour in 2005. Mr. Kelly has no knowledge of this woman, has never received any

money from her, and has not been contacted by any law enforcement authorities

regarding the matter. He will, of course, cooperate fully with any legitimate

investigation of this matter, since he has nothing to hide.”

I guess we’ll have to wait and see

how this one ends up. The question is why can’t Kells stay out of trouble long

enough to concentrate solely on what brought him to our attention in the first

place? I’m sorry. I forgot…legal bills don’t pay themselves.

5. Terrence Howard Gets

Inspired From Stalking; Anticipates Uphill Battle for Musical Acceptance

We all know that artists received

their motivation to make hits from a variety of different ways. Some drink,

some smoke, some f**ck for tracks. But Terrence Howard has brought a new

dimension to the process as he shared the inspiration behind “No 1 Fan,” a song

featured on his upcoming debut album Shine It Through.

According to the New York Times, the song was generated from Howard’s refusal to move on

after the end of his relation with Lori McCommas, the mother of his three

children. And while breaks are good fodder for classic material, this

particular parting has a twist, which involves Howard stalking his ex.

“I wrote that song (“No 1 Fan”) as

a stalker,” the actor told the Times.

“It was raining, and I was sitting there in front of the house, watching her

come home from a date after we were divorced. I was imagining what she did on

this date, and watching her giving him a kiss. I went home and wrote this

song.”

As you can see, Terrence’s album

has something a little different for the listener. In fact, that’s what the

entertainer was shooting for as he admitted that he “hated” DJay, the character

he played in the film Hustle and Flow

that paved the way for his Oscar nomination. But that didn’t stop his record

company from assuming they would get a Hip-Hop album from him after the success

of his/3-6 Mafia’s “It’s Hard Out Here for a Pimp.”

Instead, Howard delivered a

product that showcased his other musical tastes. And with that comes the

realization that certain consumers may not initially warm up to what he is

bringing to the table.

“My own people, Black people,

they’ve become accustomed to this Hip-Hop sound,” Howard stated. “If it doesn’t

have a driving beat, I don’t know if they’ll hear it right away. I think I have

to go to a different crowd first.”

It will be interesting to see what

happens with Terrence’s music. Hopefully, he’ll be able to find an audience for

what he’s trying to put out. In the meanwhile, we can rest easy knowing that he

has joined the ever-growing list of crazy, deranged folks who were unable to

just let it go. At least all the stalking could generate some dollars to put in

the gas tank so he can keep tabs on the next woman who breaks his heart.
