Ice Cube: Raw Footage (Album Review)

There are few MCs that can claim a resume close to Ice Cube. From his early days of letting us know how to “Express Yourself”, to dropping bombs on “Black Korea” with Sir Jinx, or how to tell exactly if “Today Was A Good Day”, Ice Cube’s musical pedigree is unforgiving and real, giving Hip-Hop depth in a materialistic world.

As if that wasn’t enough, he worked as Hip-Hop’s ambassador on the silver screen, with no Rappers this side of Will Smith collecting as solid a catalog of classic movies like Friday and Barbershop. If any rapper was to call his new album Raw Footage (Lench Mob) but O’Shea Jackson, it would feel like the title is being cheated. Luckily for us, Ice Cube delivered an album that not only follows its title in concept, but increases his legendary status in the process.

As actor Keith David begins the album with the question “What Is A Pryroclastic Flow?”, the feeling of anticipation grips the listener. It starts things off with that cinematic quality. Once the question has been answered on its surface, “I Got My Locs On”  blasts through the speakers;  a song that has Ice Cube and Young Jeezy dropping verses behind a blaring club-esque track.

The album really picks up into full Cube mode with “It Takes A Nation”. It picks up the torch in the first verse from “ I Got My Locs On” and then flows into the overall tone of the album. Its darkness and aggression flows into the standout track “Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It”.  The guitar riffs and piercing piano are only topped by the sharp dose of truth that’s delivered by Cube.

Doused in the social commentary is Ice Cube delivering jewels for the hood woven in storytelling, much like in “Why Me”, which features Musiq Soulchild crooning a soulful hook under a somber beat.  “Do Ya Thang” is Cube delivering something for the ride.  The synths meld perfectly for a car that has that boom in the back.

He isn’t short with the gangster at all, especially on “Get Used To It” with longtime collaborator WC and The Game.  All three go in, delivering a blueprint for other gangster rappers to follow. Keith David’s gravelly voice travels over the entire album as these songs are starting or finishing, and find a way to not be obtrusive, but add to the scene that Ice Cube is creating.

While this album is full of heat for the masses, a sore thumb is “Thank God”. The track just sounds odd as Ice Cube picks his flow up and changes it mid verse consistently. He’s fighting against the brass infused beat instead of creating his succinct harmony that he is known for.  Additionally “Here He Come” lacks the edge found on the rest of the disc.

After you give this album a full listen, it is apparent that Raw Footage has two meanings. The first meaning is a two word definition of how he got to this point. The second actually describes the music he delivers within the seventy minutes that fills the disc; a sound that is based on the raw, ever changing, footage of the hood and the people inside it. What is Pyroclastic flow? Evidently, it’s Ice Cube making all of us remember just why he is the Godfather of this gangster ish. We wouldn’t want it any other way.

Outlawz Resurrect Tupac’s ‘One Nation’ Dream

Former Tupac protégés the Outlawz have announced the reinstatement of Shakur’s One Nation project, set to be launched in Australia, as the start of an international tour next month.

One Nation originally began as a concept developed between Tupac and the Outlawz.

The philosophical aim of the project was to bring together people from all backgrounds through the power of music, the universal human language.

To achieve that aim, Tupac envisioned One Nation as a unified front of artists from all genres of music.

At the time of his death, Shakur had begun this enacting this theory with a collaborative album with Brooklyn’s Boot Camp Clik, entitled One Nation.

Due to his death and contractual issues, an official release for the album has never happened.

Now with the 12 year anniversary of Tupac’s murder looming, The Outlawz are ready to take Tupac’s last goal to an international audience.

“This is our way to give back to the fans overseas. They always show us nothing but love and they keep bringing us back,” an appreciative Young Noble explained. “Our international fan base really appreciates the kind of music we do!”

The September Australia tour will feature the Outlawz collaborating with Aussie vocalists, rock, and Hip-Hop artists.

The events will be chronicled in a documentary named Outlawz Worldwide: Volume 2.

The DVD will also include highlights from the Tupac Still Breathin Tour in Australia along with footage of the recording process with top Aussie artists.

In addition to the One Nation project, the group will drop a double LP entitled Outlawz and Hip-Hop TV Presents America 2 Australia: the Best of the Best.

For the Outlawz, the Land Down Under was an unexpected, but welcomed starting point to begin spreading Tupac’s One Nation concept.

“They love and support real Hip-Hop and Australia really has great artists too,” Young Noble states. “We are very excited about going back for this tour and looking forward to recording this album will all the top Aussie talent!”

The Outlawz are currently promoting their latest studio album We Want In, released on August 5.

MOVIE REVIEW: The Longshots

Ice Cube and Fred Durst (of Limp Bizkit) want you to take them

seriously, yet Keke Palmer just wants to keep showing her skills. In The

Longshots, all three – Durst, the films director, Ice Cube, its producer

and co-star and its leading lady, Palmer – get a chance to spread their

wings. Due to release nationwide this weekend, The Longshots is the

truest underdog story. Nobody expects much from Curtis Plummer (Cube)

or Jasmine (Palmer); both were content in his or her own little worlds

existing but not really making any marks on the world. By chance,

Jasmine’s mom, Claire, portrayed by my new favorite home girl Tasha

Smith, needed someone to step in to watch her 11-year old daughter. Her

uncle, Curtis, just happens to be the best choice; at least he’s her

blood. Agreeing reluctantly, Curtis tries to connect to his niece; but

with football and beer as options for conversation, he’s limited.

Jasmine doesn’t make it easy on him. “You smell!” was her favorite

phrase; so believably played by real life 14-year old Palmer. As an

unenthused, hard-to-impress, yet mild teenager, Palmer, again outdid

herself by gracefully playing a girl on and off the field.

The juice, of course, comes when Curtis sparks Jasmine’s interest in

playing football. You could look into her eyes and see she was

intrigued about learning something new – that a girl can be a

quarterback and take her team to the Superbowl. Yes, the real

Superbowl. The films’ on-the-field shots were reasonably pulled off yet

nothing as spectacular as Any Given Sunday. However, when Jasmine was

under her helmet, no one would be able to tell that she was a girl. It

made for added drama; when she’d throw the ball so forcefully, you could

feel the tale wind in the movie theater. Jasmine’s development into

being a strong football team member were some of the most riveting

scenes, because it allowed both Palmer and Cube to first bond as a team

of two. He believed in her and her skills even before she did. This isn’t the first time Cube and Palmer have been a team. Cube

Productions hired Palmer for her very first acting part in 2002 in the

sequel, Barbershop 2, as Queen Latifah’s niece who riffs with Cedric

the Entertainer of a mini grilled hamburger. Six years and several

films later, The Longshots, again, allowed both exceptional artists a

chance to take their mentor and mentee bond to a higher level.

Thankfully, you can see their growth. On screen, it seems real, as real

as most underdogs. And this is a real story; the story of Ms. Jasmine Plummer who just a

few years ago, took The Minden Browns, a losing local team to the

national championship as their first string star quarterback. The

Longshots is really an amazing story; not just for football fans but

for anybody who roots for the underdog.

The movie is not so serious that you can’t appreciate the characters’

exceptional performances; comical enough to keep your attention yet

moving enough that you want them to win. You’ll appreciate the

neighborhood of misfits that join in on the fun as the Minden Browns go

from a nobody team to national contenders. Check out scenes with

comedians Earthquake and Michael Colyar, who play Carl and Ennis,

respectively with zest and humanity. You’ll also recognize Garrett

Morris portraying the local minister whose church help raise the money

for the Browns to make the championship game in style. Jill Marie Jones

portrays Plummers’ school crush, youthfully and with innocent sex

appeal. Their on-screen spark made the film seem almost vintage. Take your kids to see The Longshots. You never can tell when another movie will come around that actually motivates them to do something they

never thought could be done.

BREAKING NEWS: Da Brat Gets Three Years In Prison

Chart topping rapper Da Brat was sentenced to three years in prison today (August 22), after being charged with assault for hitting a woman in the face with a bottle of rum.

The prison sentence stems from a November 2007 incident, in which Da Brat, born Shawntae Harris, argued with Shala Stevens, a waitress working at Jermaine Dupri’s Club 72.

Stevens, a budding model, Atlanta Falcons cheerleader and actress, suffered deep lacerations to her cheek and swelling to her forehead.

Stevens, who is represented by power attorney Willie Gary and CK Hoffler in a civil lawsuit, also suffered permanent disfigurement and mental distress as a result of the attack.

“Ms. Stevens is a cheerleader, choreographer, dancer, actress and entrepreneur, whose career has been greatly affected by this incident,” Gary told AllHipHop.com in a previous statement.

Stevens was also forced to pull out of an upcoming role on Tyler Perry’s sitcom House of Pain due to the injuries she sustained in the assault.

Da Brat must also serve seven years of probation and complete 200 hours of community service.

In 2000, Da Brat was charged with pistol whipping another patron at the Chili Pepper nightclub in Atlanta.

She pleaded guilty, was fined and sentenced to a year of probation.

Da Brat has worked with artists like Mariah Carey, Missy Elliott, Lil Kim, Ludacris, Dem Franchize Boyz, Kelly Rowland and others.

50 Cent Meets With Investigators Over Fire

Hip-Hop star 50 Cent have revealed that the rapper has met with Suffolk County authorities yesterday (August 22).

Representatives for 50 Cent released a statement denying recent reports that he is using a smokescreen of lawyers to avoid cooperating in an investigation of a suspicious fire, which burnt his Dix Hills, Long Island mansion to the ground.

Citing unnamed sources, The New York Post claimed that rap star was stonewalling the investigation and had refused to talk with authorities about the blaze, which burned the multimillion dollar mansion to the ground in less than 45 minutes.

The house was at the center of a legal dispute between 50 Cent and his ex-girlfriend Shaniqua Tompkins.

Both Tompkins and 50 Cent’s 11-year-old son Marquise were inside sleeping when the house caught on fire in the early morning hours of May 31.

“50 and his attorneys met yesterday with Suffolk County authorities regarding the fire that destroyed 50’s house,” representatives for the rapper told TMZ.com in a statement. “The meeting had been arranged weeks ago. 50 is eager to review the findings of the investigation, when it is concluded.”

The mansion has also resulted in a pair of multi-million dollar lawsuits filed by both Tompkins and 50 Cent.

Tompkins and her lawyer claim that 50 Cent threatened them during a violent altercation in a Manhattan officer, where a meeting was held over ownership of the mansion.

“I fought back, and this is what he is trying to do, kill me and his own child,” Tompkins fumed to the media just days after the blaze. “He threatened me. He told me he would have someone come do something to me. He said, I will have someone come kill you, and that is what he did.”

Days after the inferno and Tompkins‘ comments to reporters, a video clip of an irate 50 Cent leaving Tompkins’ Manhattan’s lawyers office also hit the Internet.

Tompkins filed a $50 million lawsuit and filed a restraining order against 50 Cent, born Curtis Jackson.

In June, 50 Cent’s lawyers responded with a $20 million defamation lawsuit against Tompkins and sought a permanent injunction against Tompkins, to prevent her from “republishing, repeating, distributing, and otherwise disseminating the defamatory statements and the accusations that plaintiff was involved in burning down the home or attempting to kill family members, including his son.”

The investigation into the fire is ongoing.

Onyx: Cold Getting Dumb

In the world of crime investigation a cold case is defined as a crime or accident that has not been solved and is not the subject of current criminal investigation, but for which new information could emerge from new witness testimony or re-examined archives. As the times change it’s possible that new technology or a fresh look at the case years later can help lead to solving the mystery. Hip-Hop is all too familiar with the idea of the cold case with the notable deaths of top artists like Notorious BIG and Tupac. With that comes the release of Cold Case Files: Unsolved Murders on August 19 by Jam Master Jay protégés Onyx, a collection of unreleased tracks recorded during the mid nineties. With this release Onyx reopens a file of music to their fans that haven’t heard from the group since 1995’s Triggernometry. The group has managed to maintain a profile amongst fans with group members Sticky Fingaz and Fredro Starr having a prominent presence in the film and television world. Here the group speaks on, amongst other things, their latest tribute to Jam Master Jay, reflects on how Hip-Hop has changed since their appearance in 1993, and Fredro Starr candidly discusses the controversy surrounding recent appearance on Youtube.AllHipHop.com: You have a new album dropping in August but it’s all old material. Why are you deciding to release it now?Fredro Starr: Yeah, it’s called Cold Case Files. My brother (Whosane) and I were just sitting in the studio puffin’ on some trees and listening to a lot of old material that he had held onto. I mean he had tapes, DATs, and all types of s**t. We just sat there and listened to tapes for about three hours and I just thought the s**t sounded crazy. I thought it be good to give our fans something they would appreciate. We not trying to change the world with this album….this is Onyx collectables for Onyx fans. We have at least 60 tracks – this is just the first volume of unheard material. It gives old fans something they can hear and if we get some more fans along the way that’s cool. This is a representation of Onyx from 1993 until now. This will let them know how Hip-Hop used to be because right now…there’s still some ill n****s but it’s not being really put out there. When you look at the top ten videos all the artists are from down south. When was the last time a New York artist went platinum? New York fell off. We ain’t been the same. Sticky Fingaz: This is vintage Onyx for the Onyx fan. I don’t even know why we didn’t release….well I know one reason why. We didn’t even know a lot of these tracks existed. If it wasn’t for the brother Whosane all these tracks would have been lost. He’s the biggest Onyx fan on the planet and he had all this stuff we had forgotten about. This is old s**t that we had that was just collecting dust.

“I apologize for being absent from Hip-Hop and letting these corny ass n****s take over the game. See what happens when a n***a takes a vacation?” -Sticky Fingaz

AllHipHop.com: Even though the music was recorded around a decade ago the tracks don’t sound outdated and deal with relevant issues occurring today.Fredro Starr: Songs like the track we have with Method Man [“Evil Streets Remix”] are just soulful. That’s my favorite track and the beat sounds like it could have come out today. I mean I see what Kanye and RZA do now so the soulful sound is still relevant. It’s still relevant because we’re still relevant. Method Man is still relevant. We’re still here. The world is still going through the stuff we rapped about then. The ghetto is still feeling the same pain. The world hasn’t changed. We’re still at war—we’ve been at war for twenty years! When we came out the first time Desert Storm was over. We’re always at war. Two of my n****s got murdered two days ago so nothing is changing. Sticky Fingaz: A lot of music isn’t outdated. The music is timeless. What we’re talking about is timeless. I wouldn’t want to be conceited and say we were ahead of our time or anything, but the music we recorded is still hot right now.

Evil Streets f/ Method Man – Onyx

“New York is the start of Hip-Hop. We don’t sound like n****s from Atlanta. We don’t sound like n****s from Tennessee. All that Dirty South s**t sounds the same.” –Sonny Seeza

AllHipHop.com: Even though the times may not have changed Hip-Hop music has made drastic shifts. What do you attribute those shifts to?Sticky Fingaz: It’s regional. Every regions gets it’s time. When Onyx came out the west coast was on and the east coast was kind of soft. We had A Tribe Called Quest, and don’t get me wrong I love A Tribe Called Quest, But Dr. Dre was killing the game with the hardcore music. Then Onyx came and we started smashing s**t. Now the music is on the southern tip so each region has it’s time to shine. The south is shining, but all good things come to an end.Sonny Seeza: I think you’re looking at it from the wrong way. That’s rap. Rap is basically on some other corporate s**t. We come from the Hip-Hop standpoint. Today rap is prevalent because it’s corporate but what’s going on today is not Hip-Hop.Fredro Starr: Very true. When we came in the game we were signed to Def Jam. That meant something. Beastie Boys. Run DMC. LL Cool J. Public Enemy. The industry had integrity. People’s brands meant something. Now….it’s not the same. It went regional.Sonny Seeza: New York is the start of Hip-Hop. We don’t sound like n****s from Atlanta. We don’t sound like n****s from Tennessee. All that Dirty South s**t sounds the same. So now it’s turned into a regional game. New York is not popping so the corporate side is not looking for a rapper out of New York. Record labels and executives shut down New York. We started the 100Mad movement so we could build up the integrity and voice of the east coast. We want to build up east coast music. We want to give artist from the east coast a chance to be heard.Fredro Starr: 100Mad is short for 100 mad n****s with guns. We’re putting out compilation albums from artist in the tri-state area and the east coast that have no outlets. We’re going to put these records in the store and give these kids a chance because the rest of the industry isn’t. We’re going to be out there looking for talent.Onyx “Shiftee” Video

AllHipHop.com: Well you have been around as the music has changed so did you see the change in music coming? Was it gradual to you or all of a sudden?Sonny Seeza: That started at the start of the new millennium. It had already started with Cash Money and Master P. We saw it. We worked with it. We watched many east coast rappers become confused about who they were but we stayed the same. We calculated and planned so we could be here today.Fredro Starr: When we came up there were down south rappers out. You had artists like the Geto Boys and Luke. The South was there. When we came out they were growing and then their voice got bigger than our voice. I just never saw that coming. But everything evolves and it’s going to come back around.Sonny Seeza: It’s back around right now. Whatever the f**k that dance is…Soulja Boy….n****s ain’t trying to do that no more. Right now we are getting it together so that we can take Hip-Hop back from the corporations. It’s time to take the hood back.Fredro Starr: We going to come with an Onyx dance [laughs]. We black rock stars. We rappers but when you go to one of our shows it’s like a rock concert. You’re going to thing you’re in the wrong venue.

“We came out with ‘Slam’ and some other tracks and I’m going to keep it real, n****s in the street made comments. S**t like, ‘Why ya’ll on that white boy s**t?’” –Fredro Starr

AllHipHop.com: Aren’t you releasing an album of new material with more of a rock edge?Fredro Starr: Yeah, Black Rock. I think the Black Rock album should have been released in ‘94. It should have been our second album. We came out with “Slam” and some other tracks and I’m going to keep it real, n****s in the street made comments. S**t like, “Why ya’ll on that white boy s**t?” We made a U turn from those types of records because n****s in the hood wasn’t feeling it. But it’s not about the n****s in Brooklyn it’s about what we represent, and we represent high energy music. When we did songs like “Last Dayz” (All We Got Iz Us) we showed people that we can spit. That album proved we were ill lyricist. When we did the “Slam” record we never capitalized off it. We never did Lollapalooza or a show with the Beastie Boys. We stayed away from that lane and that was our lane. Why should we just stay in the Hip-Hop market when we can appeal to the rock crowd as well? We are Hip-Hop but we’re going to put on the mad face and Mohawk and bust n****s ass on stage. We’ve already done that in rap and our show is our strongest point. I like rock music and its energy matches our energy so that’s why we’re coming with the Black Rock album. Hopefully the Hip-Hop fans in Brooklyn will feel it but it’s really not for them. It’s Hip Rock. It’s for the Lollapalooza n****s.Sticky Fingaz: Really it’s for everyone to understand what Onyx is about. It’s for the fans that feel and love what Onyx is doing. That’s what it’s for. If you ain’t with that we’ll see you later. Sticky Fingaz: He’s right, we were scared of that lane. The president of Def Jam Lyor Cohen basically had to talk us into doing a track like “Slam.” We were so hood and so hard that we didn’t want to do that s**t. I mean our show is like a mosh pit. Overseas 90% of our audience is white. We are still going to release a street album, but don’t knock this rock s**t. This rock s**t is hard. It’s not like this is soft rock. Lil Wayne is the highest selling artist out right now and he comes out on stage with a f******g guitar. It’s not just to appease the Rock & Roll crowd. But it’s for everyone. Really it’s for everyone to understand what Onyx is about. It’s for the fans that feel and love what Onyx is doing. That’s what it’s for. If you ain’t with that, we’ll see you later. Fredro Starr: It’s the same lyrics–different beat. Same struggle—different beat.Sonny Seeza: We’re trying to be the ones that open up the doors for others to come through. Trailblazers. We’re not going to stop being who we are regardless of the media or anyone else.

“50 is a smart businessman and at the end of the day we gave him respect. We put him on records when we was at the top of the game. He didn’t even have a car. We gave him respect on the strength of Jam Master Jay. What did we get in return? Someone talking slick on mixtapes? Swinging on n****s? So now I feel like it’s a problem.” -Fredro Starr

AllHipHop.com: On that media note, Fredro there’s video of you on the Internet making a few comments about Brandy, Dipset, and 50 Cent. Care to speak on any of it?Fredro Starr: The video…I’m going to be real…I played myself. I did a video where it wasn’t the right time…it wasn’t the right place. I was feeling myself a little too much. At the end of the day everything has a justification—even the Brandy thing. I never meant to put her on blast and say she gave me head. It was a joke and the media ran with it. That’s what it was. The comments about Dipset…Dipset is doing them. I can’t judge what they’re doing. Now the comments about me and 50…that’s a problem that we have. It’s just a problem…I don’t consider it beef. He said some things out of his mouth. I started working with Bang em Smurf. I don’t know what was going through his mind. But when you try to swing on me…we have a problem. He never called my phone and tried to explain what was going on. I never got any messages. 50 is a smart businessman and at the end of the day we gave him respect. We put him on records when we was at the top of the game. He didn’t even have a car. We gave him respect on the strength of Jam Master Jay. What did we get in return? Someone talking slick on mixtapes? Swinging on n****s? So now I feel like it’s a problem. We never put it on wax. So if you want to do it that way we’re ready to entertain. We ready. I’m ready. 100 Mad is ready. This was before he said f**k Jimmy Iovine. This was when he was a big dude. But what did G-Unit sell on their last album? Good, now we’re on the same playing field. Now it’s even. You want to say something about Onyx I will be more than happy to address it. If he calls my phone and want to put it behind us my ears would be open, but I ain’t get that phone call yet. I don’t give a f**k. I mean, every interview they ask me about this n***a. I can’t get away from it. So I think he just made it so we’re always relevant. Hopefully we can entertain some people and see who is really spittin’ that s**t.Onyx f/ 50 Cent “React” Video

AllHipHop.com: You and Sticky Fingaz are also well known for being in other aspects of the entertainment industry. How is it balancing mainstream acting careers while making hardcore music?Sticky Fingaz: There’s no problem. Ice Cube puts out comedy and family [movies]. The two worlds pretty much remain separate. Fredro Starr: Hollywood don’t care. If you’re selling records the people at the movie house don’t give a f**k….they just want people in the seats. Same hustle to me.

“Now I’m not about to fall off of the movies but we are going to hit the music stronger. Ask Eminem who his favorite rapper is and see whose name comes up.” -Sticky Fingaz

AllHipHop.com: Do you feel like the acting may have taken you away from rap too much?Sticky Fingaz: The acting definitely took us away from rap. You can’t do everything at once. Some people have a good machine behind them where they can do both. Some people can’t let the music fall off because that’s how they feed their families. We’ve been lucky enough to be able to do both. Now I’m not about to fall off of the movies but we are going to hit the music stronger. Ask Eminem who his favorite rapper is and see whose name comes up. We got a lot of stuff coming out but if you ever wonder what’s going on go to onyxdomain.com.Fredro Starr: Yeah, I can say that. Sometimes I’ll walk down the street and see a white girl and she’ll say “Oh s**t, that’s Malakai from Save the Last Dance!” She doesn’t know about my music career. I think when you know how to balance it works for you. I mean, Sticky wrote a movie that will have me and Mekhi Phifer, and Bokeem Woodbine where all the dialogue is rapped. It’s just bringing both our worlds together. We have a lot of stuff that’s going to be coming out soon. Things that we’re producing and working on ourselves that I can’t even speak on yet. We do have a documentary about Jam Master Jay called Two Turntables and a Mic which just shows people more about his life. We’re going back before Russell even knocked on his door looking for a DJ. That’s one of the projects that we’re really proud about. Sticky Fingaz: I have a movie coming out under Lionsgate that I wrote produced and directed. All the dialogue is rapped. And this isn’t] rappers but A-List actors in the movie. I learned a lot from being an actor in a lot of movies. I’ve got connections, I got a crew, and I got money so I shot the beginning of the story. I showed it to Lionsgate and they told me not to show it to anyone else. We want to do this. I have another one with that same rap concept coming out with Vivica Fox, Cedric the Entertainer, Angie Stone, Joe Torre and some others.AllHipHop.com: When you’re listening to the old recordings, what’s biggest difference from the you on tape and the you listening today?Sonny Seeza: I think I was ill then and I’m ill now. It shows the relevance of what I’m doing now. It just gives me insight to my mind state and vibe. That period is now etched in stone because of those recordings. Sometimes I listen and I don’t even remember saying some things. Sometimes I’m still surprised that I feel the same way about certain things.Sticky Fingaz: That’s just the old me. Every second we change. You can’t be the same 20 years ago; you can’t be the same ten minutes ago. I’m about to release another solo album because people need to see more Onyx. I feel like people are trying to write us out the book of rap. I look at ten year reviews, or things about Hip-Hop past and I don’t see Onyx. We don’t get mentioned and that’s bulls**t. VH1 has that Hip Hop Honors…we haven’t been honored. I see 50 Cent climbing stages—I started that s**t. I see Method Man jumping into the crowd—I started that s**t. I see Busta throwing water—n***a I started that s**t. And people act like they don’t know. When Def Jam was in the hole Onyx brought them back. Not only them we brought the whole east coast back. I’m not going to let people forget that. Some of the people coming our right now are just young. They was two or three years old when we first came out but them n****s need to know their history. You know what, I don’t give a f**k if they know their history or not…they need to know their present. We’re coming back out. Jay-Z says he’s getting nicer and he’s over forty. I’m only thirty four and I’m in the prime of my life. So right now I apologize for being absent from Hip-Hop and letting these corny ass n##### take over the game. See what happens when a n***a takes a vacation?Fredro Starr: I still feel the anger in my heart. I still feel the pain we go through in the ghetto. Really nothing has changed. I honestly feel like one year has gone by. I don’t know where the years went but I still feel young. This Hip-Hop music keeps you young.

The Wire’s ‘Snoop’ Arrested Over Murder Trial

Police arrested popular actress Felicia “Snoop” Pearson on minor drug charges on Wednesday (August 20), after she was detained for refusing to cooperate as a witness in a murder trial.

Members of Baltimore’s Homicide Unit entered Snoop’s Northeast Baltimore home with a “body attachment” warrant, which allowed authorities to arrest and detain her.

Once inside, they also found two cigars filled with what is allegedly marijuana as well as marijuana residue.

Police may detain Snoop until September 16, when the murder trial of her associate Steven James Lashley begins.

Lashley is accused of stabbing three men – one fatally – outside a Baltimore New York Fried Chicken, in Snoop’s defense.

Snoop had been involved in an argument inside the restaurant with Tyrell Roseborough.

Snoop had apparently offended Roseborough, who became verbally abusive when Snoop refused his advances. Police entered the establishment and ended the fracas.

The incident flared up again outside because of the proximity of their vehicles, which were all parked near Water and Commerce streets, police said.

Lashley eventually pulled out a knife and stabbed the three men, fatally wounding one of the three.

Snoop already told investigators that she wasn’t involved in the stabbing.

“He [Roseborough] ain’t try to flirt with me or no [s**t] like that,” Pearson told investigators. “It was so tight in there…I’m like what [s**t] man get out of my face.”

According to The Baltimore Sun, a warrant was issued for Snoop on July 1, after she missed an April 21 trial date.

She also recently avoided prosecutors’ phone calls in regards to the trial.

Snoop was sentenced to eight years in prison in 1996 at the age of 14, for shooting and killing Okia “Kia” Toomer during a dispute between the two females.

Her life is chronicled in her recently released memoirs, titled Grace After Midnight.

The Last Word: Mario Reveals Drug Dealer Past, Bobby Brown and Kells Are Back in Court, and Janet Jackson Reveals the Pleasure Principle and Enters the Dictionary

What’s real, good people? Another

week, another 25 cents made as the world spins with Florida feeling the effects

of tropical storm Fay, anticipation running high over who Obama and McCain will

pick as their running mates and world record breaking Jamaican sprinter Usain

Bolt catching flack from IOC president Jacques Rogge for displaying a lack of

respect for other competitors after becoming the first man since Carl Lewis to

win gold medals in the 100 and 200 meters at a single Olympics.

Condolences go out to the families

of actor Julius Carey III, who was best known for playing Sho’Nuff in the

classic film The Last Dragon and Dave

Matthews Band saxophonist Leroi Moore. Both men died Tuesday (Aug. 19).

Congratulations to Gwen Stefani,

who gave birth to her second child, Zuma, on Thursday (Aug. 21). Shout out to

Michael Phelps, for winning eight gold medals in a single Olympics, Dara

Torres, for proving you’re never too old to do big things on an Olympic stage,

South Africa’s Natalie du Toit, who made history as the first amputee swimmer

to compete in an Olympic Games on Wednesday (Aug. 20) and the sounding boards

for taking the gold in real talk.

Check it out…the Last Word for

the week ending Aug. 22, 2008

1. Janet Jackson Enters the

World of Lingerie; Wardrobe Malfunction Makes Dictionary

Leave it to Janet Jackson to find

a way to bring her sexiness to the masses. The singer has made good use of her

time away from music by designing a new line of lingerie called, what else, The

Pleasure Principle.

USA Today reports the 14-design line, which is scheduled to debut in

stores in November, will hit the US before arriving in Australia, Japan and

Europe. The intimate clothing will be priced under $40 and include a variety of

bra styles that range in size from 32A to 44G.

And like many women who shop for

lingerie, Jackson placed high importance on comfort while mentioning that there

was something for every woman. “I’ve always hated when lingerie is

uncomfortable, so the fit and comfort was key,” said the hitmaker, who

added that she was hands-on during designing and sometimes worked on the line

at 4 a.m.

News of Janet’s latest venture

comes as her term describing that infamous Super Bowl halftime blunder makes

the dictionary. Media sources stated that “wardrobe malfunction,” has been entered into the latest Chambers English

Dictionary. It is defined as “the exposure of an intimate part or parts of

the body due to a defect in an article.”

I guess if the ladies want to

avoid an involuntary wardrobe malfunction with their lingerie, it’s all about

“control.”

2. Mario Reveals Former Drug

Dealing Life

It’s no secret that things weren’t

always good with Mario before he hit it big. Anyone who saw his MTV documentary

Won’t Love You to Death: The Story of Mario and His Mom knows that life became more of a challenge for Mario as he

witnessed the effect of his mom’s heroin addiction. So much so that the former Dancing

With the Stars contestant traded his

singing dreams in for a brief stint as a drug dealer.

“In junior high school, I

even sold drugs for a short period of time,” Mario revealed in the new

issue of Seventeen magazine. And while

that life offered a few perks, it was the reality behind his new gig that made

the singer think of going in a different direction.

“…after making mistakes and

having friends die or end up in jail, I realized that I needed to start Mario’s

Do Right Foundation,” Mario explained. “It’s a program that gives

kids and adults a way to talk about their problems in a group without feeling

ashamed or alienated like I used to. And the foundation isn’t just about drugs

– It’s about teaching kids that anything is possible.”

3. Mariah, Miley and Beyonce

Stand Up to Cancer

Those waiting for a Mariah Carey

and Miley Cyrus collaboration will get their wish and then some. The singers

are among the 15 female artists lined up for “Just Stand Up,” new

song produced by Antonio “L.A.” Reid and Kenneth “Babyface”

Edmonds.

Others contributing vocals include

Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Rihanna, Fergie, Sheryl Crow, Melissa Etheridge,

Ashanti, Natasha Bedingfield, Keyshia Cole,Leona Lewis, LeAnn Rimes and Carrie

Underwood. “Just Stand Up” marks the first time Reid and Edmonds have

worked together in nearly 20 years.

The tune, which was conceived by

Reid, will be available for purchase exclusively on iTunes on Sept. 2. Fans

will get the chance to see the vocalists perform “Just Stand Up” live

when they take the stage on Sept. 5 for the Stand Up to Cancer TV special. The show is slated to air simultaneously and

commercial-free on CBS, ABC and NBC. Proceeds from the track will go to the Stand

Up for Cancer campaign for cancer

research.

The Stand Up to Cancer show will also feature reports on potentially life-saving

research and interviews with cancer patients and scientists from network news

anchors Charles Gibson, Katie Couric and Brian Williams.

4. Ne-Yo Gets Animated for

Cartoon Network Close Up

As if being a successful

singer/songwriter and actor wasn’t enough. Now Ne-Yo is adding animator to his

list of job titles with the creation of a new animated series for Cartoon

Network. According to reports, the crooner is in talks to bring the show over

to the channel.

“It’s a cartoon for adults,

like Family Guy. I’ve been busy

developing it,” Ne-Yo said about the show, titled What The Bear. “I created the characters and the world they live

in. And I did the original drawings and wrote the story.”

What the Bear will center around a rude bear that has been in jail in

another dimension. In addition to helming the project, Ne-Yo will work on music

for the series.

“It will all be

original,” the singer added as he admitted to choosing a job as an

illustrator if he wasn’t singing or writing tunes. “I used to draw

portraits and caricatures of people and get 10 or 20 dollars a time,” he

told Singersroom.com. “It was handy because, that way, I never needed to

ask my mom for money.”

5. Bobby Brown and R. Kelly

Make Courtroom Encores

Sitting in on a courtroom case can

be boring at times, but with entertainers like Bobby Brown and R. Kelly, it’s

always something to see. As if we don’t get enough of them outside the courts,

it looks like the Kings of R&B and New Jack Swing will once again be the

headliners in front of an honorable judge…but for different reasons.

E! Online reports that Brown’s

former divorce attorneys are suing him for allegedly failing to pay a $90,217

legal tab. The bill reportedly covers expenses related to the crooner’s divorce

from ex-wife Whitney Houston.

The complaint, which was filed

Aug. 15 in Los Angeles Superior Court by the law firm Phillips, Lerner, Lauzon

& Jamra, alleges that Brown was notified several times by the lawyers that

he was past due in paying the balance plus interest on legal services rendered

during the dissolution of his marriage. The singer did not respond to any of

the requests, according to the suit, which wants a court order to force Brown

to enter into binding arbitration with either the Beverly Hills or Los Angeles

bar association to settle the bill.

As for Kells, his legal drama

doesn’t involve any doing on his part (imagine that). The Grammy-winner is

reportedly heated at two nightclub promoters for using his name and face

without his permission. According to TMZ, a lawsuit filed last Friday alleges

that promoters for the Sugar nightclub featured Kelly’s name and face on fliers

“falsely advertising” that the vocalist would host one of their

parties. The event was news to Kells, who says he didn’t know anything about

it.

Although no specific amount is

listed in the suit, the vocalist is seeking what he deems to be enough relief (cash)

to “stop defendants’…disgorgement of ill-gotten gains.”

With these court episodes, maybe

Bobby and Kelly can earn a buck or two by hitting studio to record their first

collaboration, titled “Best of Both Cases.” Look for it to hit stores

before the holidays with a special discount for anyone else slated to appear

before a jury of their peers.

6. Berry Gordy Helps New

Yorkers Celebrate Michael Jackson

Within his first 50 years, Michael

Jackson has achieved a lifetime of notoriety. From having the best-selling

album of all time to groundbreaking music videos and performances to multiple

Grammys and tabloid controversy, it will be interesting to see what the next 50

holds for the King of Pop.

And as fans around the world

celebrate Jackson’s upcoming 50th birthday, New Yorkers will get an added treat

when Motown Records founder Berry Gordy makes an appearance at the Michael

Jackson 50th birthday and Thriller 25th anniversary celebration in New York.

The event will take place from 8

p.m. to midnight Saturday (Aug. 23) at New York University in the Franklin H.

Williams Caribbean Cultural Center, 408 W. 58th Street. Performers, Michael

Jackson karaoke and an MJ impersonator are among the things partygoers will see

and experience at the celebration, in addition to rare MJ music and videos,

food, dancing and memorabilia. Fans will also acknowledge the Thriller anniversary with a special sing and dance along to the

video for the title track.

Gordy will be on hand to celebrate

his most famous discovery as well as be honored for his contribution to

Jackson’s career and to music. The event comes as Motown celebrates 50 years of

existence in the music world. Other celebrity guests include Debarge member

Bunny Debarge, best-selling author and Fox reporter Aphrodite Jones and world-class

sprinter and Michael Walton Foundation founder Michael Walton. Michael Jackson

himself is also an invited guest.

Admission to the celebration is

$25. Visit www.paypal.com to order tickets.

7. Solange Enforces Her Grown

Woman Status; Parties for Tracks

Being on top of the music game is

a constant challenge for anyone willing to go all out to get that stardom. And

while I’ve heard talk of people “f**king for tracks,” I was surprised

to find a twist on that with Solange Knowles.

It seems like the singer snagged

contributions on her forthcoming album, Sol-Angel and the Hadley St Dreams, from producers Mark Ronson and Cee-Lo Green, by showing

them how much of a party girl she is. According to NME, Solange convinced the guys to produce tracks off the

project after cornering them earlier this year at an after show for this year’s

Grammy awards.

Despite Ronson agreeing to help

her, Solange initially thought he was trying to get rid of her as they talked

at the party. “He said, ‘Just because I’ve won this Grammy it doesn’t mean

I won’t work on your record’. I had to party with Cee-Lo too to get him to work

on the record.”

Sounds like Solange is stepping up

to play like the grown folks. At least that’s how it may come across on “ChampagneChronicNightcap,”

a Lil Wayne assisted Sol-Angel track that finds the vocalist talking about

marijuana and making love. According to her, all the album’s tracks are written

from personal experience.

“I am unapologetic; I don’t

write about things unless they’re true. I’m a grown-ass woman and I’ve

experienced grown-ass things.”

Well go on, with your grown-ass.

In Other Words…

* R&B collective Full Force is

making a return to music with its forthcoming greatest hits album Legendary.

The release will include classic hits “Ain’t My Type of Hype” and

“All Cried Out” as well as several brand new tracks. The group will

also release an online album with classics and more new songs titled Full

Force of Course.

* The new album from Brandy, Human, is slated to hit stores on Nov. 11. Among the tracks

featured will be the recently leaked first single “Right Here

(Departed).”

Hip-Hop Rumors: Nas & Kelis On The Rocks? T.I.’s New Artist: Jailed! Rocsi’s New Beef?

DISCLAIMER:

All content within this section is pure rumor

and generally have no factual info outside of what the streets have whispered

in our ear. Read on.YESTERDAYS RUMORS!Please do remember…yesterdays rumours (I’m getting my London on). Hip-Hop Rumors: Is JD Getting Fired From Def Jam? Is Rihanna Broke? 50 Cent Blocks Cops? Hip-Hop Rumors: DJ Unk’s Beef With Joe Budden! R.I.P. Sho Nuff! Dead Man Stands For 3-Day Wake! And there is a special rumor/gossip shout out to Faith Evans, who has detailed her “relationship” with Tupac. Check THAT out!NAS AND KELIS: NO

MORE?

Ahhhhh…you know how I do it! I am a firm believer in working

it out in a relationship. Maybe its, because of my own parents and upbringing.

It hurts to see two people break up and separate. With that said, I have to say

that I am hearing bad things about Nas and Kelis. I am hearing that they are no

more and that certain “things” have been discovered about one another. First,

Nas…and later Kelis. Well, like I always say, I heard, but ain’t confirmed. I

guess, we’ll see. The rumors aren’t new, but I certainly have received intel

that suggest some form of impropriety has occurred on some level or another.

T.I.’S LOSES ONE!

I ain’t sure but I heard that T.I. has lost an artist. No,

not Alfa Mega or Young Dro. I heard that that dude in Philly, Meek Millz or

something is now in a cell. Apparently, when he was doing all this impressive

rapping for T.I., he also had a felony looming over his head like a storm

cloud. Then it rained.

Okay, talk about bad luck! My Homegirl Kendra G (100.3 THE BEAT PHILLY)

was scheduled to host The newest member of Grand Hustle  Meek Mills signing party to T.I’s label but come to find out Meek

Mills may be in jail! It seems like he had a felony case he has been

batttling for 3 years and was locked up this past Tuesday! According to

the rumor, T.I is upset because he had no idea about the felony charge.

Kendra G has confrimed the rumor and she said that she doesn’t know all

the details but she did confirm that Meek Mills signing party has been official changed to “Free Meek Mills Party!” Damn!

I don’t know if T.I. gave him a signing

bonus or advance. Just another grand hustle, eh?

Here is T.I. actually making the GRAND introduction of MEEK back in the summer. Damn, dude. This actually SUCKS!

LL GETS POLITICAL

LL finally gets political as Pres. Bush leaves office. I

have to say, “What took so long?”

“Mr. President,

are you aware/our flesh and blood is dying over there/when the coffins come

back, do you care/when only the poor kids die, is it fair/Don’t get me wrong I

respect the flag/but it hurts to see a kid in a body bag/he fought for his

country with all he had/now we have a family without a dad…”

Bush is on the way out so I think the letter should be to

Obama or McCain and how we have to work through things going forward. The song

is called “Mr. President” and not “Mr. Bush,” as once reported. Still the song

will drop when Bush is in office so I am going to figure that’s who he is

talking to.

ROCSI BEEFING WITH

QUEEN PEN? WTF?

I was told that in New

York City there is a show called Round Table and it that

broadcasts live. I never heard of it until I started to write this rumor. Well I

heard that there was a recent  ode to women

in Hip-Hop that included Lady Luck, Rocsi from 106 & Park, Heather Hunter,

Rah Digga and Ed Lover (I think he is affiliated with female movement called

FEM). Allegedly, in the green room with the girls, Queen Pen allegedly called

Rocsi a B-Word! Now, if this happened, it definitely goes against everything

that the day was for. But, why did she say that. I even heard that Rocsi was

extremely nice, cordial and pleasant and QP was just bugging. Rocsi didn’t

flinch at Pen’s words and kept it moving. One thing is for sure, Rocsi jetted

after the talk portion ended, aborting the performance piece.

KIM OSORIO DISHES THE

SOURCES DIRT – AND HER OWN!?

Now, I don’t know a lot about Kim Osorio, but I have heard a

few things. Most of this stems from her stint/bid/time at The Source magazine. In

her new book, she says that Benzino would trade the magazine covers at the last

possible second in exchange for beats and guest appearances on his various rap

projects. She also said that he would rather have street cred than journalistic

integrity. She also charges that he would randomly fire employees! I also hear

that she admits that she had relationships with Nas and 50 Cent? Now, I am not

one to yap, but I am suddenly interested in reading Straight “To The Source: An

Expose From The Former Editor-In-Chief Of The Hip-Hop Bible.” Damn, that’s a

long title.

BUGSY, BOW WOW AND A

DASH OF BERG

My boy told me he heard Bugsy on the local radio yesterday

morning and he was heated at The Game and Bow Wow about the mere mention of her

being the “prize” over a Madden Tourney. He was mainly threatening Bow Wow, I heard

though. And he said, Bow Wow better leave Ciara along or else. He said that he

knows a few “things” about Bow Wow and that he would reveal them if he had to.

He also allegedly said that they all must have self-esteem issues to even

include a girl in that mess.I have to admit, I feel BugMug on this one. Ciara

isn’t bothering a fly!

This Bugsy guy has to be the most popular dude with no songs

on the radio! I have to give him credit. He keeps the people talking. Recently,

Yung Berg dissed Bugsy for trying to use his household name to get “on.”

Several people said that Yung Berg referenced AllHipHop’s rumor page and then

slayed Bugsy in a televised freestyle.

THE GAME CALLS OUT

JAY

I’m telling you. I told you before, I told you the other

day. The Game is going to diss Jay-Z outright and overtly. No sublimes! I heard

that he’s fully equipped too. Now in a recent interview with Complex, The Game

said – right now – there are no disses to Jay-Z on a mixtape that is about to

drop. OK, fair enough. He also said that he’s “baiting” Jay to diss him. I

don’t see that happening personally, because Jay is too smart. The Game said,

“You’re going to bleed all over Manhattan

if you beef with me. I won’t stop until one of us is dead, period. And that’s

lyrically.” Then Gam said that “Jay would be a piece of cake. A piece of

strawberry shortcake. My favorite.”

Game is crazy! All I can think of is “Carlito’s Way” or “No

Country For Old Men.” I don’t want to see this one.

ILLSEED’S QUICKIES

When asked how many homes he owned, John McCain didn’t know

the answer. [He owns seven.]

Mike Vick is reportedly hemoraging about $12,000 while

sitting in jail. What a big hole that is. Dude now makes under $280 per month.

The

Game is willing to smoke crack rocks with Amy Winehouse. Click here to see the

video.

Terrence Howard isn’t getting remarried. The Iron Man co-star

is saying that a singing session went to far and they got the wrong impression.

Kelly Rowland has made Julie Grbac’s dreams come true by

wearing the Aussie fashion designer’s clothing to a concert. Kelly can make my

dreams come true in a rather different way.

I just don’t believe that Mariah Carey is going to change

her name to Mariah Cannon. It doesn’t sound bad.

REMEMBER DIAMOND AND

PRINCESS?

Man, these two need to be a group. They were so ill last

year during AHH Week! Damn, what I wrong with people. Somebody even mentioned

AllHipHop in the video!

RANDOM QUOTES

David Banner bragging

about his money. (Click

here for the video)

“I got more money than 87% of these rappers.” (How did he

come up with that percentage.)

Kim Kardashian has

lost her mind. If she loses that booty, nobody is going to much care. She’s the

one that made us care.

“I love that I’m curvy, but I’m on this major kick to try

and lose weight, especially in my butt,” she tells Radar magazine. “I’m just so

over it! When you’re posing on the red carpet and the paparazzi shout, ‘Turn

around! Turn around!’ — it gets a little offensive.”

Budden talks about

how he found out he was released from Def Jam (Read

the story here):

“When I got released from Def Jam, well first off, I found

out the same way the fans found out. I didn’t get a phone call or my lawyer

didn’t tell me. I had to read that s**t online.”

Michael Phelps and

Young Jeezy are fans of each other. I can see why too. One deals with water and

the other deals with snow. They are like super heroes – Aqua Man and Snow Man.

“I’m a big fan of Michael Phelps! He’s a great success. I

like what he’s doing. He’s like the Young Jeezy of the swim world. I love it!”

SIGNS THE WORLD IS

COMING TO AND END

Damn, girl. It just wasn’t worth it. Tyree Monique Tate and

her sister shoplifted $500 worth of children’s clothing from a TJ Maxx store in

a mall. They ran and even sprayed a security cop with pepper spray. They ran so

fast, so far. They ran to the local Goodwill store. Tyree climbed inside a

large green trash compactor, ignoring the many signs that said “Keep Out.”

Cops found her sister and her sister refused to snitch on Tyree and claimed

that she didn’t hardly even know her. Well, a Goodwill employee decides to use

the trash compactor. Tyree was crushed to death and died from wound sustained

after being compacted. She was only 26. If her sister had told the cops where

she was she probably would have been arrested…but alive. Choices!

but Kane is The Blueprint.

NOT A RUMOR BALTIMORE WANTS IN!

I requested that you send me what’s going on with rappers in

your area. What I got was a lot. Now, I wanted to show you a particular letter

that goes to a place close to me – Baltimore. B-more reminds me of Delaware from a Hip-Hop

point of view, because it is a hub for Rap, but nobody has blown up. Check the

letter.

I’m very annoyed with

the industry.. Because my city can’t get a brake. There are a lot of artists

here who are hot. I just think we get looked at for hustling and nothing else.

Please check out Skarr Akbar, Ogun, P-Bodi, Hulio Shallone, Flames-O-Fire, and

The Arabz to name a few. They all have Myspace accounts. I mean why haven’t we

heard anyone from Baltimore

but Dru-Hill and weak ass B-Rich. I mean I rather hear snoop from the wire

album than a whole s### load of weezy f. Whoppi.

Thanx.. I love the

site by the way… Keep up the good work.

NOTE ON THE PR

STANDING UP WAKE

I am sure you all remember the dude that was standing up

dead for his 3-day wake in his mother’s house. According to sources, he was

shot 11 times, but there is no definitive motive for the slaying. Anyway,

somebody says it might be something stupid over a girl or something else like

corrupt coppers. I have been told that it is hard on a Puerto Rican brother out

there and that people don’t expect to live very long. I suppose that would

explain why he made the request to be standing at his wake in the first place.

Seriously, that is an odd request for anybody, especially a young person. Anyway,

the whole point of him standing up is actually quite deep and its rooted in

pride and being a man – standing up.

Here are the ill pics if you didn’t see it yesterday.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Faith Evans Tells “Truth” On ‘Pac! Is JD Getting Fired From Def Jam? Is Rihanna Broke?

DISCLAIMER:

All content within this section is pure rumor

and generally have no factual info outside of what the streets have whispered

in our ear. Read on.

YA DIDN’T HEAR THIS

FROM ME!

Well, I guess I should say, you ain’t

gonna hear this one from me. I heard that Jermaine Dupri is possibly going

to be let go as the president of Def Jam. I got this one last night, as

somebody told me that the So So Def president is

going to be unceremoniously let go from his duties. Now, this hasn’t been

announced or anything so it could be bad intel.

All I can say is these are some different times and nobody is safe, no matter

what your background is. You might be able to make kids wear their clothes on

backwards and you still aren’t going to woo these label heads into keeping you

on. Anyway, I am sure if JD is supposedly getting the ax, he will have no issue

getting another job with his stellar credentials.

FAITH TELLS THE “TRUTH” ABOUT TUPAC!

The

alleged tryst between Tupac and Biggie’s wife Faith are the tales the illest

dramas are made of. But, Faith reveals at length what she says actually

happened between her and the slain rapper. Check it out. The book is called “Keep

The Faith.”

“You

know, I love New York,”

[Tupac] said. “But I’m not f*cking with New York right now.”

The air in the room seemed to get really thick all of a sudden. His demeanor

had changed so quickly that I was truly afraid.

“Really?” I asked. “Why is that!”

“‘Cause n*ggas set me up that night. You know that right!”

I swallowed hard and took a deep breath. He was staring at me like he thought I

was the one who set him up.

“You don’t really believe that bullsh*I,” I said.

“I’m telling you … n*ggas set me up,” he said in a low voice.

“Look, Pac. I just need to get my check

and then I have to go …”

“The situation with the money is

like this,” he said. “If I give it to you, then you my b*tch.”

I got up and moved father away from where he was standing.

“I’m not anybody’s b*tch,” I said, trying to keep my voice even and

steady.

“You Biggie’s b***h.”

I thought about how people always got sh*t wrong. He was probably thinking

about the song “Me & My B*tch.” And I wasn’t with Big when he

made that record.

“I’m his wife.”

“I though y’all broke up?” he asked

“We still married.”

“Whatever.”

“Look,” I said. “You hired me to do a song, I did it. I want my

money and that’s it.”

“Oh word, it’s like that? You just want your money?”

“You told me it wouldn’t be a problem,” I said. “The only reason

I came up here is because you said …”

“So you not

trying to suck my d**k?”

“What!” I screamed. “What are you talking about!”

Tupac raised his voice. “You know you want to suck my d**k, b*tch! Don’t

f*cking lie.” I burst into tears and grabbed my phone. “I have to get

out of here.”

Tupac kept going. He was making no sense, cursing and yelling. He said

something about Big and the East Coast.

“But … but … I thought y’all was friends,” I said. At this point,

I could barely speak clearly because I was crying so hard.

“Whatever. You know you wanna be my b*tch,” he said, before going

into the bedroom area and slamming the door.

As soon as I got my things together to leave, Tupac came back to the common

area.

“Where the f*ck are you going!” he asked.

“I don’t know what you thought,” I said. “I really don’t. But

it’s not like that.”

Tupac nodded slowly, staring at me

intently. He wasn’t ranting or screaming anymore. But he had this very sinister

smile on his face. I

kept looking around the room because I felt like something was about to happen

to me. I wasn’t sure if these guys were coming back or what. But something was

wrong.

“It’s not like that?” he kept saying over and over again and nodding.

“Well ai-ight then, f*cking b*tch. You want to leave! Tell the driver to

50 CENT AND PLIES

I am hearing that 50 Cent has a huge show in Baltimore ready to go

this week. What is interesting is that 50 and G-Unit are not doing this one as

a closed crew. I am hearing they are doing this one with a plethora of other

artists. I am hearing Jim Jones is one of the acts that will join 50 in Baltimore. On the flip

side, I heard Plies is going to rock the stage for the people out there. Now, I

have to say that this revelation started rumors that Plies might be joining

G-Unit. I can’t see that happening at all in this day an age. Plies has his own thing going on. I think 50 is just working with other artist. Remember when Jim Jones

was supposedly joining G-Unit? Yeah, that panned out in to nothing at all.

50 CENT DOESN’T WANT

TO KNOW WHO BURNED HIS HOUSE DOWN!?!

The New York Post

reports that 50 Cent is working stealthily behind a legal gang to avoid dealing

with the cops over finding the culprit that burned down his Long

Island home that housed his own son and son’s mother. The mother

of the child screamed on 50 and blamed him for burning his own house down, but

50 says otherwise. He’s reportedly got a legal gang that are shielding him from the cops. The Post suggests that he’s not

cooperating. His baby moms, Shaniqua, said that 50

did it to get her and her boyfriend out. Well, she didn’t say that, but a lot

of people have speculated that she had another man over in the house and 50 wasn’t

pleased that his son was around another dude. Who knows.

B-Real Inks Solo Deal With Duck Down

In another effort to offer Hip-Hop fans an eclectic roster to choose from, Duck Down Records has announced a new solo album deal with Cypress Hill frontman B-Real.

With the acquisition, B-Real becomes the latest big name to join the Duck Down family.

Pioneer KRS-One recently completed a collaboration album with Buckshot scheduled for release next year.

For the rest of 2008, Duck Down will release DJ Revolution’s King of the Decks (September 16) and Heltah Skeltah’s D.I.R.T. (Da Incredible Rap Team), the group’s first album in 10 years.

Duck Down co-owner Dru Ha emphasized to AllHipHop.com that his label’s vision is to maintain a strong, independent entity to showcase Hip-Hop music thriving away from the mainstream.

“Adding another living legend in B-Real to our roster is really giving Duck Down a ‘dream team’ lineup for independent Hip-Hop,” Dru explained to AllHipHop.com. “Buckshot and I have been strategic with our label partnerships mixing the right blend of emerging artists with proven veterans.”

Another example of that vision is the breakout success of newcomers Kidz in the Hall, who recently filmed a video for their second single “Love Hangover,” featuring UK songbird Estelle.

Dru Ha details that a pending super-group project will push the label to bigger heights in 2009.

“When you add the upcoming Random Axe Project (Sean Price, Guilty Simpson, and Black Milk), we’re excited about our ability to continue contributing quality Hip-Hop albums to the game,” he states.

Entitled Smoke N Mirrors, B-Real’s Duck Down debut features Snoop Dogg, Buckshot, Damian Marley, Sean Price and Sen Dogg.

Production for the project will be handled by DJ Quik, Fredwreck, Scoop Deville, and B-Real himself for Audio Hustlerz.

B-Real is currently on the Rock the Bells Tour with Nas, A Tribe Called Quest, Method Man, Ghostface, Immortal Technique, and Kidz In the Hall.

Smoke N Mirrors is scheduled for release on January 27, 2009.

Joe Budden: Psycho Ward

Joe Budden is Hip-Hop’s equivalent to Neo in the first Matrix movie; an average guy who discovers his potential for greatness and goes forward to achieve his destiny. Sure the Jersey City native was good at the time, but after the release of his self-titled debut album, fans were salivating for what was sure to be an amazing sophomore effort. But just like in the movies, the forces of the machine stood in the way of Budden attaining his destined greatness and let what was supposed to be his second album, The Growth, sit on a shelf for several years, where it still resides. With no hope of survival without a steady presence in the Hip-Hop scene our hero refused to be left for dead and began releasing the critically acclaimed Mood Muzik mixtape series. After what seemed like an endless fight Budden finally freed himself from the matrix known as Def Jam in 2007. With a new deal at independent label Amalgam Digital comes a new era in the timeline of Joe Budden. On October 28th fans will finally get to see him reloaded with no rules and no limitations as he takes you through his mind with the release of his highly anticipated sophomore release, The Padded Room. I can’t tell you how this story will end, but I will tell you how it begins, with some dope music.AllHipHop.com: You’re one of the most lyrical guys in the game. While by the usual standards the diss tracks you released against Ransom and Prodigy were hard, many fans feel you were taking it easy on them. Why is that?Budden: Because they can’t rap. I can rap, they can’t so I always feel like it’s not fair for them to go write these b####### bars and me sit here and go hard on these n****s who can’t rap. It’s not fair. Both of these situations were just me taking it light. AllHipHop.com: I can understand Ransom getting a pass because you and he have a prior relationship but you didn’t owe Prodigy anything. Budden: Well, when you got someone with so many classic joints that they’ve been a part of… I kind of felt like it wasn’t really worth it.

“The fans have all the choices. If you don’t like the ringtone s**t, don’t listen to it. If you don’t want to hear real, lyrical s**t, the backpacker s**t…don’t listen to it. If you don’t like this dude’s video, don’t watch it. The days of being force fed and brainwashed into liking something are over for grown n****s.”

AllHipHop.com: You recently released “Who.” In the track you’re walking us through why Hip-Hop is what it is right now. What made you decide to do it and has anyone you mentioned given you feedback?Budden: It’s something I wanted to do for a while; something I thought should have been done for a while. I just went in and said f**k it. I didn’t care what anybody would say about the s**t I was saying or if what they would have to say in response. I just said I’m going to go in. I wanted to go in and just give…almost a Hip-Hop time line. I wanted to do it like a Law & Order episode and take you through where s**t started and how it became different. I ain’t want no crazy beat because I didn’t want the beat to take away from everything I was saying. I think in the end, everything fit perfectly. I haven’t received any negative feedback. Everything I heard from everyone has been good. Who – Joe BuddenAllHipHop.com: What would you like to see more or less of in Hip-Hop right now?Budden: Honestly, I don’t give a f### what’s going on. I really don’t. I’m not happy about it, I’m not mad about it. I feel like n****s can do whatever the f**k they want. Whatever they do, it’s not going to affect Joe Budden and what Joe Budden is doing at all. Because it’s really all up to the fans. The fans have all the choices. If you don’t like the ringtone s**t, don’t listen to it. If you don’t want to hear real, lyrical s**t, the backpacker s**t, or whatever you want to call it, don’t listen to it. If you don’t like this dude’s video, don’t watch it. The days of being force fed and brainwashed into liking something are over for grown n****s. I don’t listen to radio because I don’t like the s**t they play on the radio. I don’t watch videos because I don’t like the bulls**t videos that come on. I’m not going to complain, I just don’t watch it.

“When I got released from Def Jam, well first off, I found out the same way the fans found out. I didn’t get a phone call or my lawyer didn’t tell me. I had to read that s**t online. When I read it, it was like having that winning lotto ticket and the guy is about to say that last number.”

AllHipHop.com: After your release from Def Jam you used mixtapes, particularly the Mood Muzik series, to keep yourself relevant and in doing so proved that you have a respectable fan base. With that being said, why did you choose to stay indie instead of linking up with one of the majors?Budden: I didn’t want to rush into anything. I shared some of the same ideas and the same vision that Amalgam shared and I wanted to try my hand at it. I kind of wanted to pioneer that whole digital record label thing that’s going on right now. When I got released from Def Jam, well first off, I found out the same way the fans found out. I didn’t get a phone call or my lawyer didn’t tell me. I had to read that s**t online. When I read it, it was like having that winning lotto ticket and the guy is about to say that last number. I wasn’t even sure after I read it so when I called to confirm it I was happy as f**k. I was so excited. It was like a burden had been lifted off my shoulders. After that, I’m not going to just hop back into another major situation. I’m trying to enjoy this freedom for a little bit. AllHipHop.com: You gave a lot and suffered through a lot while on Def Jam. Don’t you think you deserved more than that?Budden: I felt that way the entire time I was there. I felt like I deserved more but it was apparent that n***** k about what I felt I deserved or me period so it wasn’t shocking that I found out that way. AllHipHop.com: Your second album is called The Padded Room. What’s the meaning behind that name?Budden: It’s called The Padded Room because the booth is padded, number one. And number two, because I’m crazy. I just try to arrest my craziness daily. But I’m really a f**king psycho. I think about a lot of crazy, weird, psychotic s**t. And I’m not alone in that aspect because a lot of people do. They’re just too afraid to say it or too afraid to speak on it or even let somebody know what they’re thinking. A n***a like me has to run his thinking by other people because I’m so crazy. The Padded Room is an album that was never released on a major. It’s very different. I took s**t to another level creatively and lyrically. I’m tired of talking about the regular s**t. Some of the s**t will come across as movies but I didn’t want to be on that usual s**t. I didn’t want to be on that Joe Budden debut album s**t. I wanted to go someplace different so I went to the f**king psych ward. AllHipHop.com: You said you think weird and strange things. What’s one of the strangest or more psychotic thoughts you’ve had recently?Budden: I wouldn’t even tell you. If I did you might be able to get a glimpse as to just how crazy I can be at times. See, you trying to get me to show how crazy I can be and I just got through saying I’m trying to hide that s**t. AllHipHop.com: What can fans expect musically from The Padded Room?Budden: There’s no The Growth leftovers. No floating tracks, everything is brand new. It’s all fresh. New ideas, new music, nothing recycled.  The “Who” song, parts one to three is on there. “Touch and Go” is on there. But you really cannot get a good idea of what’s on The Padded Room by “Touch and Go” or “Who.” I’m probably going to shoot my own video for this one record called “Dream.” That song gives you a better understanding of what this album entails. AllHipHop.com: Sticking with that theme, if you could be locked in a real padded room with anyone who would it be and why?Budden: Halle Berry. Hands down. If I had to do it, I got to say Halle Berry. You can never get tired of looking at Halle Berry. I don’t give a f**k who you are. And you never know, she might be a little crazy too. We might get crazy together.AllHipHop.com: With individuality and lyricism on the decline in Hip-Hop music, are you worried about where your album will fit in?Budden: I’m not worried about where I fit in. I’m not trying to fit in. I don’t give a f**k about what n****s is doing. I don’t give a f**k about the climate in Hip-Hop. I don’t give a f**k about a lot of things. My sole focus is on Joe Budden and what Joe Budden is doing. There is no more conforming or trying to get in where you fit in. F**k all that.AllHipHop.com: What’s the biggest difference between 2003 debut album Joe and 2008 The Padded Room Joe?Budden: When I first came in the game I was open minded enough to listen and take suggestions from people because I wasn’t knowledgeable about the situation I was getting myself into. I have more information and information is a weapon for me. Now I’m not so naïve, not so open minded and a lot more “I don’t give a f**k” today as opposed to back then. Oh yeah, and I rap better today.

“My whole point in the situation is that you’re great, we all know you’re great but don’t think it’s sweet. I will come at you too. I don’t give a f**k. And that’s not just for him [Jay-Z], that’s for everybody if I feel like I’m being tested or being taken for a joke lyrically.”

AllHipHop.com: There has been mixture of subliminal lines aimed at Jay-Z. You’ve given him praise at times and other times you’ve ridiculed him. If you had a chance to sit down and talk to him is there anything you’d want to just get off your chest?Budden: I don’t think there’s anything in particular I’d really want to say. Aside from “what up” there’s not much I want to say. He knows I have the utmost respect for him and his accomplishments and all that he’s done. But at the same time, it’s like in ball, you can have a jump shot. You don’t have to take it all the time but sometimes you’ll shoot it just to let n****s know they better check it. My whole point in the situation is that you’re great, we all know you’re great but don’t think it’s sweet. I will come at you too. I don’t give a f**k. And that’s not just for him, that’s for everybody if I feel like I’m being tested or being taken for a joke lyrically. AllHipHop.com: If it came down to it, and people started mentioning your name less when talking about dope MC’s would you go after who ever had the crown at the time?Budden: I’m not with that. I can’t just start going at whoever’s the hottest at the moment. If that’s the case you’d be going at a different n***a every year. You’ll be at Kanye one year, then Wayne one year, then 50. I’m not with that. I really just want to do Joe Budden. If that ends up being appealing to enough consumers, I’ll be where I need to be soon enough. I’m not going to rush the process. I’m not going to just diss n****s or do whatever to try and get more people to say my name. AllHipHop.com: There’s always the question of rapper vs MC vs entertainer. What does Joe Budden consider himself to be?Budden: I’m certainly not an entertainer. That’s not happening. I’m an MC, more than a rapper. I like the word artist. I like to think of what I do as art. It’s more than rap. I can paint pictures and have people see and feel what I’m saying. N****s be on some “I’m not a rapper. I’m a drug dealer who raps.” Or they’re on some “I’m not a rapper I’m a killer n***a that happens to rap.” Get the f**k out of here. Nobody’s trying to hear all that. I don’t believe none of that s**t. If n****s is rapping, they’re rappers. That’s it. You’re not a drug dealer, not a murderer, not a killer. You’re a rapper. If you were into all that you wouldn’t be making f**king videos and you wouldn’t be living the lifestyle that you live. AllHipHop.com: So do you feel some of the dudes that talk that drug and gun stuff need their cards pulled on the things they say?Budden: To each his own. I don’t give a f**k what everybody else is doing. Certain things I see and I sit back and I ponder upon it and I laugh at it. I laugh at a lot of n****s but it doesn’t mean that they’re doing something wrong and I’m not trying to spend my time calling them out. Do whatever it is that moves you and you feel is making you successful. I just don’t have that same frame of mind. AllHipHop.com: It seems like you have the best of your years ahead of you. What would you like your legacy to be when it’s all over?Budden: Whenever I’m at the tail end of my career I’d want to be seen as one of the best rappers, or better yet, best artists ever. I’m sure everybody feels that way about their craft. At least, they should. But I feel I have the potential to make that come to fruition.

Rick Ross Parts Ways With Hip Hop Grub Spot

Rapper Rick Ross has dissolved an alliance with The Hip Hop Grub Spot, AllHipHop.com has learned. Ross’ Rick Ross Charities and Slip-N-Slide Records announced today (August 21), that his relationship with the health conscious Hip-Hop restaurant franchise was officially over.

According to Tawanda Roberts, Executive Director of Rick Ross Charities, Inc., Ross’ non-profit will continue to partner with other community oriented organizations.

“Rick Ross Charities, Inc will continue to accept and review offers to align with other non-profits as well as for profit companies and agencies,” Roberts told AllHipHop.com. “[We will] continue to partner with other companies and community agencies sharing the goal of the charity’s mission to strengthen the lives of today’s at-risk youth from all backgrounds and create diversity by providing solid resources through education advocacy, mentoring programs and financial resources to deserving students.”

The announcement comes as the Hip Hop Grub Spot celebrates its upcoming one-year anniversary. The Hip Hop Grub Spot officially opened its doors on November 17th, 2007. The franchise

produced a number of community events with Rick Ross, including a Thanksgiving turkey distribution and a Christmas toy drive.
