It can certainly be difficult for musicians to stand out from the crowd within the constantly growing global music industry, however, Bongani Gaone Sehunelo, better known as Kevin Gani, differs from most… thriving as a musician in the industry while pursuing academic and entrepreneurial excellence. He was born in Botswana and raised in multiple countries around the world, from Kansas City United States to Russia, Germany, and the United Kingdom where he currently resides.
Each of these locations significantly contributed to Gani’s musical taste, fuelling his creativity to express himself within multiple genres. Currently based in London, Gani has an extraordinary and multi-faceted musical and entrepreneurial career path – he is undoubtedly a name to remember.
Jupiter Rising – Latest Upcoming Project
Gani’s upcoming project “Jupiter Rising” is due to be released later this fall. An immersive E.P fuelled by Lo-fi sonics guaranteed to induce a state of euphoria! What we know so far is that this will be an independent project inspired by recent events in Gani’s life – “There’s just been so much that has happened, and I just really wanted to express myself through the creation of these songs, and I just know that most people who’re like me, will relate.”
Gani goes on to state “I’ve always wanted to give back and contribute my own personal material to the music scene and this project is really the genesis of that… There are currently plenty of unheard gems in the vault, and I can’t wait till they’re all released!” This project is definitely one to keep an eye out for! In a recent interview with the Grey Journal, Gani was asked about giving back to the community and why it’s important to him:
Grey Journal – “In what ways do you give back to the community? Why is it important for you?”
“I always try to help the upcoming producers in less fortunate positions, who actually reach out to me for advice or general guidance regarding starting off their music production careers. The reason this is so important to me is that that is something I would have loved to have when I started… it really took me a long time to connect the dots on the does and don’ts when starting out, general studio session etiquette, and so forth. It only takes a moment for me to share my personal experiences, which may just be what that young producer needs to hear and understand to really take their grind to the next level and actually thrive in the music industry.”

From his youth, Kevin Gani was heavily inspired by the likes of Dr. Dre along with all the in-house Aftermath talent that emerged as a product of Dre. He was later influenced by the younger giants such as Boi 1da, Oz, Noah 40 Shebib, and most of the production talent that aided in the formulation of the OVO sound, artistically spearheaded by Drake. While the focus has been on his music, Gani has likewise established himself as a skilled producer, collaborating with a variety of artists from around the world, such as his recent collaborations on Bugzy Malone’s latest album which is now on the UK’s Official Charts Top 10. Gani understands the importance of learning from others and uses these collaborations to expand his skillset and develop relationships in the industry.
