Latto and Ice Spice dropped jaws Wednesday (September 3) with the surprise release of their first-ever collaboration, “Gyatt,” putting an end to nearly two years of tension and lyrical shade.

The track, which arrived without warning, marks a major shift in the dynamic between the two rappers who had been trading subliminals since late 2023.

The official music video is set to premiere Thursday (September 4).

What started as cryptic Instagram posts and pointed bars in songs like Latto’s “Fine As Can Be” and Ice Spice’s “Think U the S### (Fart)” had many speculating the two were locked in a quiet feud.

Latto & Ice Spice Weigh In On Rivalry Rumors

Ice Spice addressed the speculation in a Rolling Stone interview, saying, “I feel like if we ever spoke and I asked her ‘What’s the issue?’ it’d be like a blank stare. It’d really be no issue whatsoever. Especially from me. I can understand a friendly competition, but I just feel like at this point it’s a joke that she’s just dragged out, and it’s just not even funny.”

Latto, for her part, told Billboard she never saw it as a real beef.

“If I was to do [a battle], it would have to be with somebody I feel like Imma go t## for tat with,” she said. “I really don’t mean it as shade. Would she even want to do that? I feel like she’s doing her in her lane. … It’s two different types of vibes. I don’t even think she gives me like, ‘Oh, she wants to engage in an actual rap beef’.”

Despite the back-and-forth, “Gyatt” has been received as a moment of unity in the female rap scene, with listeners praising both artists for putting aside their differences—if only temporarily.

Social media was divided with reactions ranging from impressed to skeptical. One user posted, “Latto getting Ice Spice to rap the best she’s ever rapped was NOT on my bingo card…”

Another wrote, “latto and ice spice getting on gyatt together just to still diss each other. REAL RAP IS BACK!”

A third chimed in, “Latto tricked ice spice into a collab so she could eat her up. Be careful who you call sister.”
