Mary J. Blige Developing Drama On Philly Kingpin Thelma Wright

The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul is planning to tell the story of Philadelphia drug dealer with Thelma Wright.

(AllHipHop News) Legendary R&B artist Mary J. Blige is about to turn her efforts into the small screen.

On top of her accolades in music, which includes nine Grammy wins, the Bronx native has received three Golden Globe Award nominations and an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress and Best Original Song.

According to Variety, the 48-year-old will be executive producing a new drama series on USA Network titled “Philly Reign.”

The series is based on the real-life of Thelma Wright, who ran an international drug operation that clocked $400,000 a month in “profits.”

Wright claims she cashed in from selling lethal amounts of heroin and cocaine to communities in Philadelphia and as far away as Los Angeles.

Thelma Wright insists she left the drug game unscathed in 1991, just as an epidemic of drug violence was coming back to haunt her and her criminal associates, who were eventually gunned down in the trade.

Mary J. Blige launched a new production company called Blue Butterfly to serve as executive producer of the series, along with “Empire’s” JaNeika and JaSheika James.

The news of Mary J Blige’s news arrives weeks after the announcement she will be appearing in the first Power spinoff on Starz, titled “Power Book 2: Ghost.”

No details on that role have been revealed, but fans can definitely expect her A-game when it comes to film.
