(AllHipHop News) Two British stars are joining forces to bring Derek Owusu’s Teaching My Brother To Read to television. Idris Elba’s Green Door Pictures production company is adapting the forthcoming book from Grime artist Stormzy’s #Merky Books publishing company.
“Derek’s book will be an inspiring exploration of brotherhood and how literature can influence and transform lives. We are genuinely excited about adapting this book as a work of fiction and non-fiction,” said Elba (The Wire, Thor: Ragnarok).
Green Door Pictures is responsible for Sky One’s In The Long Run, Netflix’s Turn Up Charlie, and Discovery’s Idris Elba: Fighter. #Merky Books launched with Stormzy’s first book, Rise Up, in 2018. That Reminds Me by Owusu was also published through the Penguin Random House-backed imprint.
“I know too many talented writers that don’t always have an outlet or a means to get their work seen, and hopefully #Merky Books can now be a reference point for them to say ‘I can be an author’, and for that to be a realistic and achievable goal,” said Stormzy in March.
(AllHipHop News) Robert “Meek Mill” Williams continues to take steps to support criminal justice reform. Meek is now helping to raise money for the REFORM Alliance, a nonprofit dedicated to changing the laws, policies, and practices that perpetuate injustice in America.
Beginning November 26, Lids will sell limited-release DreamChasers hats. A percentage of the proceeds from the individual sale of each headpiece will be donated to the REFORM Alliance.
Meek Mill is the co-owner and creative director for Lids. He is also the co-founder of REFORM Alliance alongside Michael Rubin, Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, Robert Kraft, Robert F. Smith, Clara Wu Tsai, Laura Arnold, Michael Novogratz, and Daniel S. Loeb.
“Having my own line with Lids is special, but I’m especially proud that proceeds from this hat will be used to help fix the broken criminal justice system,” said Mill. “I’m grateful that our team at Lids was committed to making a hat that’s stylish, but will go toward a greater cause.”
Last week, REFORM Alliance Co-Chairs Meek Mill and Michael Rubin helped free Philadelphia native Maurice Hudson from state prison. Hudson was sentenced to 1 ½ to 3 years because he could not afford to pay $1,941 in outstanding court costs.
The Pennsylvania Supreme Court ordered Hudson’s release on Friday morning. Rubin and fellow Philadelphia 76ers partner Josh Harris hosted Hudson as a VIP guest at the Sixers’ home game against the Spurs that night.
Meek also provided Hudson and his family with new clothes from fashion designer Milano di Rouge as well as items from PUMA. Plus, the Grammy-nominated emcee is assisting the 29-year-old father with transitioning back to society and finding a job.

(AllHipHop News) Charlotte, North Carolina rapper DaBaby is ending 2019 with a power move.
The hit rap star just inked a major deal with Universal Music Publishing Group.
From now on, UMPG will handle the administration for all of DaBaby’s music around the world.
The deal also covers music released by Charlotte-based record label South Coast Music Group, which DaBaby calls home.
“I feel great about my decision to join UMPG. I’m looking forward to working with their team and taking my vision to new heights,” DaBaby said of his new deal.
The agreement also covers the releases on his South Coast Music Group imprint, which was founded by entrepreneur Arnold Taylor.
Taylor is one step closer to realizing his vision of building a major record label/media company based in the Carolinas.
“We are excited about this joint venture with UMPG and their amazing staff and look forward to breaking new barriers in the TV/Films era,” said Arnold Taylor, CEO of South Coast Music Group.

The first female rapper on No Limit Records Mia X plans to give back in a major way.
Mia X, real name Mia Young, is best known for her come up, breaking down the gender barriers of the hip-hop industry and proving females can spit as hard as the men.
Now has a new identity: Professor X.
Under the new moniker, she will be teaching rap at the Loyola University School of Music Industry in New Orleans.
While she’s used to traveling around the globe playing sold-out shows, this will be the first time she’s performing in front of college students.
“Most of these children were born between 1999 and 2002. I wasn’t even making records when they were born. I was finished making records,” Mia X told Nola.com. “They did not come up in my era. They did not come up when my music was popular. These children — I call them children because I look at them like my babies — I told them I was their mama the first day I came into class. Even though they are young men, they are definitely babies in this hip-hop game. They are just getting their feet wet.”
At this point, all the students in the class are comprised of males, which she hopes to change soon.
She hopes to transform the way audiences view rap as a genre and art form, and not just entertainment.

Kading claims Keffe D., who was the leader of a Crips set in Compton, admitted involvement in the Tupac slaying.
Keffe D. has also publicly recounted his involvement in the incident of Tupac’s shooting on September, 7th 1996 on multiple occasions.
Because of this evidence, Kading is officially calling on the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department to close the Tupac murder case.
“A corroborated confession is one of the strongest pieces of evidence you could hope for in a criminal investigation,” Greg Kading told AllHipHop in a statement. “It’s important to close the case for history’s sake, knowing that Tupac’s murder is not a mystery. Tupac’s friends and family deserve the closure that the evidence in the case provides.”
“Classifying the case as closed or solved does not preclude investigators from reexamining the case in the future should new evidence or information surface,” Greg Kading said.

21 Savage hosted his “Guns Down, Heads Up!” event earlier this week for hundreds of Fulton County students.

“Lot of struggles in my life, I’ve dealt with a lot of the same things you are going through today,” 21 Savage told the students. “Stay out of the way, do the right thing. It’s a sense of calm and it can change your life.”

(AllHipHop News) A New York gang member has been arrested in connection to the murder of rapper Lil’ Kim’s cousin.
Daquan Carter stands accused of fatally shooting Courtney ‘Aggy’ Tingle in Brooklyn back in March.
According to authorities, Tingle, 26, had been an affiliate of the street gang Team Bang Out, and became involved in a dispute, resulting in a shoot out.
He was admitted to a local hospital with gunshot wounds to his torso, but doctors couldn’t save him and Tingle was later pronounced dead.
On Wednesday, detectives charged Carter with his murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
The 28-year-old is alleged to be a member of the Los Angeles-based Bloods gang.
Brooklyn native Lil’ Kim has yet to comment on the arrest, but she previously paid tribute to her cousin in the aftermath of his death.

(AllHipHop News) Kanye West has been ordered to halt construction on a massive amphitheater on the grounds of his Wyoming ranch after starting the building work without a permit.
Authorities initially visited the proposed site after receiving the planning request and had to ask the rapper to cease development after discovering he had already brought in contractors to start clearing the area.
The rapper has since been ordered to immediately halt the building work until they rule on his permit request.
Park County Wyoming Planner Joy Hill further reveals to TMZ that the application had been due to be discussed at a Planning and Zoning Commission meeting.
But the topic was removed from the agenda at the last minute after learning that Kanye had changed his mind about the purpose of the new construction, switching it to residential use.
As a result, he will now have to submit new forms for the building permit – and put a stop to the early construction work until officials approve or deny the request.
Kanye fell in love with the great outdoors in Cowboy Country after spending time there while recording his 2018 album Ye, and he subsequently expressed his desire to relocate there permanently with his wife Kim Kardashian and their four children.
