(AllHipHop News) Last year, community activists were outraged when the Chicago Police Department got caught leaving a “bait truck” in a mostly black neighborhood in an attempt to ensnare kids into stealing sneakers. Vic Mensa’s SaveMoneySaveLife and other nonprofit organizations counteracted the CPD’s “Operation Trailer Trap” by giving away over 10,000 pairs of shoes to people in the area.
Mensa and SaveMoneySaveLife are now joining forces with Chicago Bears linebacker Nick Kwiatkoski to present a shoe drive this fall. The sneaker-collection phase of the operation will run from October 3 to October 31.
The footwear will be distributed between November 2019 and March 2020 at special monthly gatherings. For the “Giving Events,” Mensa and Kwiatkoski are set to coordinate with handpicked youth services focused on underserved schools, housing, advocacy, homelessness, and gun violence.
SMSL also set up an Amazon Wishlist for people to contribute sneakers, sweatshirts, and school supplies online. In addition, the “Vic & Nick Shoe Drive” is raising money via a GoFundMe campaign. The current goal is to collect $25,000.
“I’m excited to announce my partnership with @n_kwiatkoski in support of The Second Annual @SaveMoneySaveLife Shoe Drive. Together, our goal is to donate over 20,000 new pairs of shoes for Chicago Youth directly affected by homelessness and gun violence,” wrote Mensa on Instagram.
(AllHipHop News) It’s been a decade since Immortal Technique released a studio album. The rapper/activist recently spoke with AllHipHop to discuss new music and more.
“I was sitting on a bunch of songs, stuff that was from this era, stuff that I wrote a couple of years ago, and all of the themes of music kept resonating with what’s going on today,” said Immortal Technique. “I feel like that’s the difference between people who make timeless music and individuals who ambulance chase styles or trends or things like that.”
The 41-year-old Peru-born, New York-raised immigrant also talked about how growing up in NYC shaped him as an artist. His proximity to some of the culture’s leading pioneers impacted his early life.
“I feel like the direction, especially me as in New York emcee, it was very different for me. I had advantages other people didn’t have growing up. Like I would just run into all the superstars,” expressed Immortal Technique. “KRS-One did an impromptu concert at Grant Projects and talked to people afterward. Crazy Legs or Kool Herc would just be in Harlem all the time.”
“I never lost my love for it. I’ve been still touring those five years that I didn’t make any new music,” Immortal Technique explained. “I did like three or four guest appearances. I did five world tours, so I’ve always been a global act. I’ve done every continent except Antarctica.”
His return to making music was sparked by the passing of a relative. Coronel adds, “People have been harassing me, nagging me. But I’m gonna be honest with you. I really got motivated after my grandmother passed. That really put the battery in my back, somewhere around February or March.”
(AllHipHop News) Earlier this year, 21 Savage (né Shéyaa Bin Abraham-Joseph) became the face of undocumented immigration in the United States when the London-born entertainer spent 10 days in a Georgia detention center. The Atlanta-based rapper moved to the U.S. as a young child and his visa expired back in 2006 when he was a teenager.
The National Immigration Law Center honored Abraham-Joseph as a 2019 Courageous Luminaries Award recipient. He was recognized for helping to shine a light on the American immigration system. The Associated Press spoke to 21 at the event on Thursday night.
“When you ain’t got no choice, you should be exempt,” said 21 Savage about the legal status of underaged immigrants. “It’s not like I was 30, woke up and moved over here. I’ve been here since I was like 7 or 8, probably younger than that. I didn’t know anything about visas and all that. I just knew we were moving to a new place.”
We’re thrilled to announce Atlanta-based, multi-platinum rapper and producer @21savage is one of our 2019 Courageous Luminaries honorees. He’ll be introduced by #BlackLivesMatter co-founder @OsopePatrisse and she’ll highlight his story.
The 26-year-old “A Lot” performer added, “I feel like we should automatically become citizens.” He also talked about how minors that were brought to America without documentation or overstayed visas have a difficult time getting a job or a driver’s license as adults.
In 2012, President Barack Obama implemented the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals policy which allowed some undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children to receive a renewable a deferred action from deportation and become eligible for a work permit. (AllHipHop News) “I should run a whole blog at this rate. They using my name for clickbait,” raps Cardi B on Offset’s “Clout.” The Bronx-bred entertainer took that sentiment to another level during an Instagram Live broadcast.
Cardi slammed Access Hollywood for using her daughter’s name in what appears to be a misleading headline. The title read: “Cardi B Admits Baby Kulture Calls Someone Else ‘Mommy’ Because She Works So Much.”
The problem? The judge for Netflix’s upcoming Hip Hop competition show Rhythm & Flow claims she never actually said that. The Access Hollywood header caused Cardi to go off on Instagram.
“I don’t play when it comes to my f*cking kid! These motherf*ckers, Access Hollywood, these b*tch-ass n*ggas, motherf*cking ass motherf*ckers, I’m gonna really violate y’all n*ggas right now,” said Cardi. “They asked me a question about me doing different ventures and how have things change when it comes to motherhood. So I gave them like a two-minute answer.”
She continued, “I said, ‘Things have changed because a lot of people expect me to do so many things… So I’m sorry if I take time out my day that I could be five hours in the studio but I spend five hours with my kid. Because I could have somebody babysit my f*cking kid, but it’s a wack feeling when your kid’s not even trying to f*ck with you and trying to call somebody else mommy. That’s why you gotta spend time with your kid.'”
According to Cardi, Access Hollywood edited the video to make it seem like she confessed to neglecting her child. The “Bodak Yellow” hitmaker added, “B*tch, That’s not what the f*ck I said! Don’t use my kid for clickbait! Don’t cut sh*t off trying to make me look like I’m a f*ck-ass mom!”
After her IG clip went viral, Cardi B further addressed the situation on Twitter. She wrote, “Ok guys I feel better now. Sorry for the bullsh*t ….whew Chile I haven’t been this mad since WHAT WAS THE REASON?‼️ “
Ok guys I feel better now .Sorry for the b####### ….whew Chile I haven’t been this mad since WHAT WAS THE REASON ? ‼️😤

Rod Wave is one of the hottest names to come out of St. Petersburg, Florida, with the streaming numbers and fans to prove it.
Boasting over 329K followers on Instagram alone (and growing daily), the newly 21-year-old arrives in the rap game with one of the hardest falsettos, which pairs perfectly with his spitfire flows.
Just weeks before embarking on a tour with Kevin Gates (serving as direct support), Rod was locked in the studio with the New Orleans rapper, who made it known he doesn’t typically collab with… anybody.
Mid-conversation, Gates chimes in: “Man that n##ga raw, I don’t make music with n##gas. How many features I had on Luca Brasi — on any of my projects? Not one. It’s mood music.”
AllHipHop: What was the inspiration behind your name?
Rod Wave: Rodarius is my real name. But Wave, I used to be scared to drop my music. One day, one of my homeboys just dropped it and made my name up. When I came back to school after two to three weeks, everybody’s like “Rod Wave!” I started dropping my own music and using it.
AllHipHop: “Popular Loner” is at over 11 million views on Youtube. Did you foresee it blow up like this?
Rod Wave: No, I just found out it was at 11 million two or three days ago. Last time I seen it, it was at 2 million. When I first started, I was setting the 10K mark, then I started setting the 100K mark. Lately, I’ve been setting million, two million marks. After that, it’s on to the next thing. Let’s get the next thing at two million.
AllHipHop: How’s it feel to see those numbers for someone who didn’t want to drop music?
Rod Wave: [Laughs] It’s crazy! Now I make sure I put out music. I used to put out music and just cut my phone off. I used to be scared of what people gon’ say. Now I be reading comments, I’m good.
AllHipHop: Why should people f##k with you?
Rod Wave: People should or they shouldn’t. I really think they should because I’m dope. I’m one of those artists where… I feel like everybody’s human at the end of the day. Everybody got they own problems. Everybody goes through s##t. My music is reality music, ‘cause everybody has ups and downs.
AllHipHop: How has music been a form of therapy?
Rod Wave: I’m not really good at communicating with people, so music helps me get stuff off my chest.
AllHipHop: What are you most excited for going on tour with Kevin Gates?
Kevin Gates: Man, we thuggin’! Whatchu mean?
Rod Wave: I just like to see the world and new people. Plus that’s gonna be big for my career, so I’m excited.
AllHipHop: What are some goals yourself as an artist at this point of your career?
Rod Wave: Just to go further. Make sure next year I’m not where I’m at this year. Just like last year, making sure I’m always further than I was the year before.

(AllHipHop News) Beyonce and Solange Knowles got themselves tested for the mutated BRCA2 gene after learning of their dad Mathew’s breast cancer diagnosis.
The former Destiny’s Child manager spoke about his diagnosis in an interview on U.S. breakfast show Good Morning America for Breast Cancer Awareness month.
And in his chat with Michael Strahan, Mathew revealed that the first call he made when he learned of his health battle was to his famous family members.
Knowles said he knows there’s a good chance that his children could be carriers of the same gene, which would make them more likely to suffer from cancer in later years.
“The first call was to my family because this is genetics – it means that my kids have a higher chance, a higher risk (of getting cancer), even my grandkids have a higher risk, and they handled it like they should – they went and got the test,” Mathew explained.
He didn’t reveal the results of the tests.
Mathew is a father of four – he shares Beyonce and Solange with ex-wife Tina and two young children with current spouse Gena Avery who he married in 2013.

He will continue to have regular mammograms and other examinations to ensure he is free from the disease.
As for how the music mogul is doing now, he told Strahan: “I’m doing really well. I had my surgery the last week of July and now I’m going through all the steps for recovery.”

Fast forward to 2019, and it appears Desiigner is publicly asking to be let out of his deal with G.O.O.D. Music/Def Jam Recordings. The 22-year-old Bedford–Stuyvesant representative tweeted, “FREE ME FROM THIS LABLE.”
At the beginning of the year, Desiigner took to Instagram Live to express his thoughts about his G.O.O.D. Music boss. He even took credit for supposedly breathing life back into the company.
“Nobody is doing this sh*t for me. Nobody is doing this sh*t for me,” said Desiigner. “I signed to Kanye West, the biggest n*gga in the world. Y’all n*ggas think he’s the genius… But to me, that n*gga’s crazy. To me, n*gga, I’ve been doing this sh*t myself. To me, n*gga, I brought G.O.O.D. Music back and everybody know that.”
Since joining G.O.O.D. Music, Desiigner dropped two projects – New English in 2016 and L.O.D. in 2018. Neither body of work entered the Top 20 of the Billboard 200 chart.
Desiigner has not charted on the Hot 100 since 2017. That year his feature on the BTS song “MIC Drop” peaked at #28. Desiigner’s only other Top 40 entry is the Platinum-certified “Tiimmy Turner” which stalled at #34 in 2016. “Panda” has been certified 5-time Platinum by the RIAA.
“What y’all talking about I fell off. I only dropped two mixtapes, bro. Two, bro. Y’all people mad ungrateful for the music I gave y’all. Y’all n*ggas need to start putting me on top. I did Diamond for y’all n*ggas two times, bro. Y’all n*ggas need to chill,” declared Desiigner in that IG video from February.
