Makers Of Beyonce’s Ivy Park Deny Sweatshop Allegations

(AllHipHop News) The manufacturers of Beyonce’s activewear brand Ivy Park deny their garments are made in a sweatshop.

In a statement released on Monday (May 16), a spokesperson defended the brand against claims made by a British tabloid on Sunday, in which it was alleged that its Sri Lanka factory was akin to a sweatshop.

“Ivy Park has a rigorous ethical trading program,” the spokesperson said, according to WWD. “We are proud of our sustained efforts in terms of factory inspections and audits, and our teams worldwide work very closely with our suppliers and their factories to ensure compliance.”

The brand added that it fully expects its suppliers to meet their code of conduct and that they “support them in achieving these requirements.”

Ivy Park, a joint venture between Beyonce and Topshop owner Sir Philip Green, was accused by The Sun on Sunday of allowing seamstresses to work in substandard conditions at the MAS Holdings factory where some of the garments are made.

The report alleges that the mostly female workers earn $6.17 a day, and could never afford to buy a pair of Ivy Park leggings, which can cost up to $144.

The Sun also reported that the seamstresses were mostly from poor rural villages, can only afford to live in boarding houses and work more than 60 hours a week to make ends meet.

However, the minimum daily wage in Sri Lanka is 400 rupees, or $2.68. This means MAS isn’t breaking any laws and the Ivy Park workers are in fact earning more than twice the minimum wage for a day’s work.

Ivy Park landed in stores and online last month (Apr16), with the Formation singer presenting motivational messages in the accompanying campaigns.

The brand is named after Blue Ivy, Beyonce’s daughter with husband Jay Z, and Parkwood Park in the singer’s native Houston, Texas, where she used to run as a child to help build up her stamina for shows.

The line is currently stocked at 12 retailers across 50 countries worldwide including Topshop, Net-a-Porter and Selfridges.

With over 200 pieces of athletic and leisure wear, the collection features leggings, body suits, crop tops and t-shirts designed to enhance a range of body types.

Juvenile Accused Of Attacking Waffle House Customer

(AllHipHop News) Rapper Juvenile was involved in an altercation with a man in South Carolina during a stop on “The Legends of Hip-Hop Tour.”

TMZ.com obtained footage of Juvenile and a group of men attacking a Waffle House customer because the man allegedly made some rude comments about a woman Juvie was with.

The unidentified patron allegedly saw Juvenile enter the Waffle House, and said “Juvenile here, here come all the hoes now.”

That was enough to cause Juvenile and a group of men to beat the man up. No police reports have been filed as of press time.

Did Tyga Have A Problem With PartyNextDoor’s Pic With Kylie Jenner?

Is PartyNextDoor once again playing IG games with another man’s ex? Remember the singer was in the middle of that break-up situation with Kyrie Irving and Kehani?

Well, PND posted a pic on Instagram with the caption “Diamond battles with @kyliejenner.” The reality show star and Tyga ended their relationship not long before PartyOmo’s post.

Tyga then jumped on IG too. He wrote, “Diamond battles” on his own page. But T-Raww’s photo was minus any mention of Kylie.

Add in the fact that Tyga and PartyNextDoor’s OVO boss Drake have had their problems in the past and it seems like this could definitely be the latest episode of the soap opera starring the two camps.

T.I.’s “Dope” Featuring Marsha Ambrosius & Produced By Dr. Dre Hits The Net (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) T.I. teased his latest single last week when the Atlanta rap star released a trailer for the “Dope” video on Tidal.

The new track from the “King Of The South” has now made its way to the internet.

“Dope” was produced by the legendary Dr. Dre. The song features vocals by Marsha Ambrosius and a sample of the late Aaliyah.

A post on Tip’s Instagram page promoting the track suggests his next project The Dime Trap is on the way as well.

T.I.’s previous studio LP, Paperwork, was released in 2014. He also dropped Da’ Nic EP in 2015 and the single “Money Talk” earlier this year.

Drake’s ‘VIEWS’ Spends Second Week At #1; Drops 79% In Sales

(AllHipHop News) Drake’s latest studio LP VIEWS will spend its second week in the pole position on the Billboard 200 album chart.

After opening with over 852,000 copies sold in its first week with 1.04 million sales plus streaming units, VIEWS pushed another 175,000 copies (219,000 SPS) in week 2.

[ALSO READ: Are The “One Million Sold In One Week” Claims For Drake’s ‘Views’ Inflated?]

Those equivalent album units are enough to put Drake at #1 once again. VIEWS topped Beyoncé’s Lemonade at #2 (202,000 SPS units, 153,000 sales) and Radiohead’s A Moon Shaped Pool at #3 (181,000 SPS units, 173,000 sales).

Drake also became the first artist to cross the 1 million mark in actual sales with a 2016 album (1.03 million). Adele’s 25 sold 1.27 million copies this year, but the album was released in 2015.

Unfortunately, Drake also saw his sales for VIEWS drop 79% after 1 week of release.

That puts the OVO leader among the highest week 1 to week 2 sales drops in history for a #1 album among Hip Hop acts.

Drizzy’s joint effort What A Time To Be Alive with Future suffered an 81% fall last October.

Other #1 Hip-Hop albums to see a similar decline include Mac Miller’s Blue Slide Park (83%), Kanye West’s Yeezus (80%), Jay Z’s Kingdom Come (79%), and Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (78%).

The hype around VIEWS helped it move over 800,000 copies out the gate, but poor word-of-mouth and mixed reviews for the project may have caused the steep fall in week 2.

The 20-track collection is the lowest rated album of Drake’s career.

In comparison, Lemonade opened with 485,000 copies then slipped to 196,000 copies in its second week. That’s a drop of just 59%. Plus, Bey’s 6th album was the highest rated of her career.

Azealia Banks Pens Apology Letter On Instagram

(AllHipHop News) Azealia Banks had a very bad week.

The New York rapper was not only embarrassed by Disney actor Skai Jackson on Twitter, but her profile was suspended soon after she made racial and homosexual remarks about Zayn Malik in other posts.

Banks’ heinous tweets were also the reason why she lost a gig headlining    Rinse FM’s Born & Bred Festival in London.

Yesterday, Azealia Banks finally apologized for her comments.

The rapper went to Instagram and wrote a brief letter for followers.

A Video Featuring Unreleased Music By MF Doom and Jay Electronica Has Just Emerged Online

(AllHipHop News) Last night (May 14)  a video clip on Facebook that premiered new music from MF DOOM and Jay Electronica went viral.

During a recent showcase where DOOM “performed” during SXSW, the elusive MC debuted new music featuring a verse with the New Orleans rapper.

Almost two months after the showcase, the unreleased clip started to go viral when user “Sick Rick” shared the clip with DOOM Saturday evening.

Unfortunately, there’s no confirmation on where or when the untitled song featuring MF DOOM and Jay Electronica will be released.

The only thing you can do is cross your fingers until new updates emerge.

Kevin Gates Says Beats By Dre Sound Like Sh*t!

Kevin Gates never minds sharing his opinion, and this time he decided to share how he felt about the oh-so-popular Beats By Dre headphones.

Gates says he’s spent thousands of dollars on Beats By Dre headphones and they sound like sh-t. Gates stated that there are other headphones out there that sound way better. Basically he explains that he’s into quality and he pays attention to detail.

Gates says he had to tell the people over at Beats that they sound like sh-t, and they are just loud!

Beats By Dre has certainly made a lot of money over the years from loyal consumers, but in your opinion are the headphones of great quality?

Well that’s not all for Kevin.

Remember he’s confessed to eating booty like groceries, engaging in sexual activities with his own cousin, and now he’s admitted to using heroin also.

Gates was rapping along to a freestyle were he said,

“Lean keep a n-gga cool…That dog food I used to use it… I’m going hard with the music… Cocaine distributor.”

Dog food is a slang term for heroin given the drug’s appearance in raw form. Ohhhhhh Kevin. He may be leaking music soon as Atlantic won’t let him put out any music until next February.

Lil B Is Working With Metro Boomin, Premieres New Untitled Single

(AllHipHop News) Last week at Rolling Loud Music Festival in Miami, Lil B premiered a new track produced by Metro Boomin.

The two have been working with each other behind closed doors, but the Based God has finally confirmed the rumors with a new song for the Rolling Loud audience.

According to Illroots, the single was the first song premiered from work B and Boomin have been working on since early this year.

No information on a possible LP based on the collaborations has been released yet.

However, with the new single featuring a sample of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony’s classic single “Crossroads,” there’s a chance that the a possible album featuring Lil B over some Metro Boomin’ beats may be something to wait on.

This isn’t the first time that Lil B has worked with an artist to release a collaborative project.

Last summer, Lil B worked with Chance the Rapper to drop their collaborative mixtape, The Based Freestyle

Ice Cube Buys Jean-Claude Van Damme’s Mansion For $7.5 Million

(AllHipHop News) Rapper Ice Cube had a good day earlier this week, when he closed on a multi million dollar home in Marina Del Rey, California.

Ice Cube is the new owner of a $7.25 million mansion that was put on the market by martial artist/actor Jean-Claude Van Damme.

According to a report in The Los Angeles Times, Ice Cube’s new home was built in 2011 and is quite roomy.

The three-story house, which has 11 bedrooms, also has a gym, a home theater and a glass elevator for Ice Cube’s convenience.

When the weather gets hot, Ice Cube can cool off in the rooftop deck’s swimming pool, which has views of the city and the ocean.

Ice Cube plunked down the money, after the listing dropped from $10 million to the closing price of $7.5 million.

Has Lil Kim Fallen On Hard Times?

Lil Kim is apparently in some sort of financial difficulty, if you believe the reports that are breaking around the Internet.

According to various outlets, Lil Kim’s Alpine, New Jersey mansion is in foreclosure. Lil Kim moved into the $2.2 million property in 2002.

Now it looks like the singer could be struggling and may be looking for a new, more modest home soon. It seems Kim is so far behind on her mortgage that HSBC is making the legal moves to get her out of the property.

Check out Lil Kim flossing in better days.

Mr. Lif Makes Triumphant Return With New Album After Near Death Bus Crash In 2006

(AllHipHop News) Rapper Mr. Lif is returning to the Hip-Hop circuit, after a life changing bus accident made him retire from the music industry.

Prior to the crash, Mr. Lif was on a roll as an artist on the prominent Definitive Jux label, where he worked closely with Run The Jewels member El-P.

The rapper was headlining the “Mr. Lif Plays With The Coup Tour” in December of 2006 when the accident occurred just outside of San Diego.

“There were injuries suffered to different degrees ranging from minor to serious but everyone is essentially OK and getting treated in various hospitals. The bus and everything in the bus was destroyed in the fire.” – El-P to AllHipHop.com in December of 2006.

The new record Don’t Look Down is Mr. Lif’s first release since 2009’s indie album I Heard It Today.

“The bus driver fell asleep at the wheel and dropped us 38 feet into a boulder-laden ravine. The bus jerked; we went off the road,” Mr. Lif revealed in a telling interview on NPR. “Right upon impact, all the lights went out, and then it was just — it was the tumble of my life. Utter chaos, you know, until the bus finally came to a stop.”

The misfortune left Mr. Lif psychologically scarred and motivated him to seek a deeper meaning in life. The rapper, born, Jeffrey Haynes, put down the mic, gave his politically charged rhyming a rest and cut off his trademark dreadlocks.

“You know, there was a period of time where I wasn’t really 100 percent sure that I had made it,” Mr. Lif said. “That was the toughest part, was to psychologically battle back from, just trying to really accept what had happened. I ended up walking away from the music industry after that, and it was really because I had just felt lost in a lot of ways after the tour bus wreck.

According to Mr. Lif, he needed a “complete reset” so he started an NFL podcast, which was therapeutic for the emcee, as he prepared to ease back into a Hip-Hop career after the bus wreck.

“I’ve suffered a lot of scars to get where I am. But, you know, you make mistakes, you apologize, you try to move on,” Mr. Lif said.

Check out the full interview on NPR.org by clicking here. Mr. Lif’s new album Don’t Look Down is in stores now.

Drake Hosts SNL, “Beefs” With Cast Members and Wears A Wig

(AllHipHop News) Hip-Hop star Drake made his second appearance on “Saturday Night Live” last night (May 14).

The Toronto rapper performed and acted as various characters during his “SNL” appearance, pulling double-duty as host and guest actor.

In one skit called “Black Jeopardy” Drake dressed as a Black Canadian nerd and in another the rapper wore a wig to dispell rumors of a relationship between him and Rihanna in his opening monologue.

The clip that seems to be drawing the best reviews is titled “Drake’s Beef.”

In the skit Drake gets angry at being disrespected by the “SNL” cast for petty reasons and then unloads on them lyrically.

As the musical guest, Drake performed two songs: “One Dance” and “Hype” from his latest release, Views.
