Animosity High Between Berto And Ortiz As PBC Fight Approaches

If hard fights usually bring their combatants closer in professional boxing, “Vicious” Victor Ortiz (31-5-2, 24KOs) and Andre “The Beast” Berto (30-4, 23KOs) are anything but the rule going into their second battle scheduled for this Saturday April 30, 2016 from the StubHub Center in Carson, CA, set to be televised live on Fox and Fox Deportes at 8p.m. ET/5p.m. PT courtesy of Premier Boxing Champions on Fox.  If the picture above from their latest press conference for Saturday’s fight doesn’t illustrate exactly how little affection they have for one another since their explosive first battle in 2011, perception is blind.

Billed simply as “the Rematch,” both fighters have a lot to prove with Berto coming off of his recent loss to the now retired Floyd “Money”Mayweather (49-0, 26KOs).  While Mayweather is an iconic fighter who bested both Berto and Ortiz definitively, Berto, in suffering that most recent loss in December of last year, still carries the fresh blemish of not being able to squash lingering rumors that he simply isn’t the same formidable fighter post shoulder injury.   Victor Ortiz also has his own heavy baggage coming into this fight, having taken a long sojourn from the sport that made him famous due to multiple injuries: “I shattered my jaw, which took me out for two years,” stated Ortiz, adding that after those two years, he had a less than grand return, getting KOed in two rounds by Luis Collazo (36-7, 19KOs): “I was healing, I come back not so good…a few months later I shatter my wrist…so I said you know what, I’m stepping away from boxing for the time being just until I heal.  So I went on to take on Hollywood.  I got on movie after movie after movie.  Six movies later, now I’m 100 percent.” Hopefully after a good three years out of contention due to injury, Ortiz’s self evaluation proves more accurate now than it did when he came back in versus Collazo in 2014.

While things seem to be especially charged between both fighters for a myriad of do or die career related reasons, it would seem that Berto has more to prove to himself as well as boxing fans going into Saturday’s fight as the man who is coming off of losses versus victory. Ortiz, unlike Berto, comes into Saturday’s fight as the winner of his last two battles and despite having gone in as the underdog in 2011, Ortiz was the undisputed winner of Berto vs. Ortiz I.  Nevertheless, Berto seems to be energized rather than troubled by this past history: ” I’ve improved tremendously.  Mentally and all the way around the board,” stated Berto of his loss to Ortiz, continuing in regards to the rematch, “This fight has always been on my mind.  Even when I tried to move on, other people continued to remind me about it.  Everyone said I needed to get (Ortiz) back.  That’s the fight everyone has wanted to see and that everyone deserves.  I’m going to give everyone the fight they deserve.”

Game on, gentlemen.

EXCLUSIVE: VH1 To Bring Back Hip-Hop Honors Awards Show

(AllHipHop News) AllHipHop.com has exclusively learned that VH1 is bringing back its Hip-Hop Honors show, one of the one-time staple award shows of the music industry.

According to sources, the event will be women centric, but how that manifests is not yet known.

Previous events were at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York, while this event is confirmed to also take place in Mid-Town Manhattan.

The VH1 Hip-Hop Honors originally ran from 2004-2010 and honored Hip-Hop legends and old school greats.

“I’m just happy VH1 started this thing…” Ice T said back in 2006. “We didn’t know if VH1 was the right place to for Hip-Hop Honors, but they’ve shown and proved.”

A host of artists have been honored in past ceremonies as honorees ranged from 2pac to Whodini, to The Notorious BIG to Snoop, to Run-DMC.

While there are too many to name from past award shows, typically artists honored at the award shows have run the gambit.

[RELATED: 15  Check Out 15 Classic Moments From The VH1 Hip-Hop Honors Shows (2006-2010)]

In 2009 VH1 honored Def Jam during the 25th anniversary of Def Jam Records, the imprint many say catapulted Hip-Hop.

That year Black Thought of the Roots and Eminem opened up the show with a tribute to LL Cool J performing his hit “”Rock the Bells.”

Fans can expect many more performances like this as VH1 typically pulls out all the stops for the awards show.

More news on this as it develops.

Adrien Broner Takes A Shot At Fetty Wap

Adrien Broner isn’t familiar with the phrase, “humility is key.” Before making up with Floyd Mayweather, he caused quite a bit of drama by taking shots at Floyd through arrogant social media posts, and he even upset some rappers by ignorantly throwing up some change he received from a cashier at Walmart. Adrien is back at it again running his mouth. This time he is taking a jab at Fetty Wap. Adrien said,

“They say we got the same jeweler, but we in different tax brackets. No disrespect to Fetty Wap. I love Fetty Wap.”

Sometimes Adrien acts like he’s miserable or he aint never had sh*t! Why even say that? He could’ve just talked about his own jewelry if he felt the need to.

Hazel-E Celebrates After Katt Williams Beef

Following the crazy drama over Katt Williams between Hazel-E & Jhonni Blaze, Hazel was spotted partying it up for her birthday at Katsuya and later at Stir Lounge in Hollywood.

Katt Williams is no stranger to drama. He can now add more women trouble to the list of drama that he has to deal with. Despite Katt’s record and back-to-back legal trouble, The ladies of Love & Hip Hop can’t leave him alone. Hazel-E and Jhonni Blaze went at it on social media over the weekend after Jhonni posted a photo of herself with the comedian.

When Hazel-E saw Jhonni’s post, the Love & Hip Hop Hollywood star went off on her former friend. Hazel posted,

“This old tired washed up stripper who was last spotted sleeping a bathtub has nerve to start beef with me when I didn’t even mention her name over a video that was taken days before she jumped on my ex’s c**k. But she been a fan of me since my Girl Code mixtape, I done paid Jhonni at Dreams & Sues Rendezvous, I’ve listened to every sad story, tried to vouch for her at LHHH & LHHNY. U tryna get my attention I don’t know what beef you got cuz neither Rich was your man & neither is my ex. You a ragged b*tch Jhonni.”

Hazel-E & Jhonni both took turns at taking shots at each other as they both were once homeless and broke. As they used each others shortcomings to go back and forth, it seems like Hazel was really bothered by the fact that she’s still in legal trouble with Katt and her so called friend Jhonni Blaze is trying to be his latest project. Well, Hazel seemed to be pretty “unbothered” as she partied it up for her birthday with her new attitude and new nose!

Rachel Roy Denies She’s ‘Becky With The Good Hair’

(AllHipHop News) Rachel Roy has denied she is the woman at the center of Jay Z ‘cheating’ rumors.

The fashion designer responded after days of intense speculation about the identity of the “Becky with the good hair” which Beyonce sings about in song Sorry from her new visual album Lemonade.

Rachel, 42, sparked gossip that she was the woman referenced on the track about a husband’s infidelity, which many fans believe details a troubled patch in the superstar’s marriage to Jay Z, after she captioned an Instagram post in part, “good hair don’t care”.

In a statement to People.com, Rachel insists:

“I want to put the speculation and rumors to rest. My Instagram post was meant to be fun and lighthearted, it was misunderstood as something other than that.

“There is no validity to the idea that the song references me personally. There is no truth to the rumors.”

Rachel, continued:

“Consequently, online haters have targeted me and my daughters in a hurtful and scary manner, including physical threats. As a mother – and I know many mothers would agree – I feel that bullying in any form is harmful and unacceptable.”

“I would hope that the media sees the real issue here – the issue of cyber bullying – and how it should not be tolerated by anyone,” she added.

The ex-wife of Hip-Hop mogul Damon Dash was trolled by Beyonce’s fans forcing her to make her Instagram account private. On Monday, she pulled out of a speaking gig at a creative seminar for NeueHouse.

The singer’s devotees, known as the BeyHive, responded to Roy’s comments with stinging remarks about her looks and alleged affair, which has long been rumored to have caused the now-famous elevator showdown between Jay Z and his sister-in-law Solange Knowles following a Met Ball afterparty in 2014.

Rachel has never previously commented on accusations swirling around her close friendship with Jay Z, who launched his first label, Roc-A-Fella Records, with her ex-husband Damon.

Rachel and Damon were married from 2005 to 2009, and are parents to daughters Tallulah and Ava.

Musiq Soulchild Discusses Hip-Hop Missing Phife And J. Dilla

“The same way I felt about him, was the same way I felt when I heard about Dilla.”

When we lose someone we know, we take time to grieve. But when we lose a legend like Phife Dawg of A Tribe Called Quest, the world seems to stand still. People recall where they were and what they were doing when they got the news that a true trailblazer has gone to rest. While promoting his newest album Life On Earth soul singer Musiq Soulchild discusses the impact of Phife’s life and what we need to remember when an icon passes on.

“Everything ain’t for everyBODY. And I mean that across the board.”

Originality. The one thing in the music business as rare as the artists that provide it. You can search high and low, from coast to coast but, much like a platinum selling album, being an original is wanted by all but rarely achieved.

With that in mind, who better to ask about the current state of music than a platinum-selling original like the man know as Musiq Soulchild? With a laundry list of hits to his credit and a new album, Life On Earth under his belt, the time was right for the soul star to sit with AllHipHop’s @MrMecc to speak on everything from original music, original sandals and where all biters belong.

Rick Ross Responds To Birdman’s Breakfast Club Interview, Sends Bottles To Charlamagne!

Rick Ross took a page out of Drake’s book and a pinch of his petty as he decided to send Charlamagne six cases of Belaire Rose. When Birdman threw his “respeck” tantrum on The Breakfast Club, Charlamagne made sure to make us chuckle by asking Birdman if he pulled up on Rick Ross and Trick Daddy the same way he pulled up on the BC hosts. Now Ross and Trick Daddy have both responded in their own way. LOL. The Breakfast Club’s shortest interview definitely gave us some one-liners, and Charlamagne’s may have been the best. Rozay seems like he is saying Birdman knows what time it is. Hmmmm.

EXCLUSIVE: Kap G Talks ‘El Southside’ Mixtape, Donald Trump’s Immigration Policy & Pharrell Being His Mentor

(AllHipHop Features) George Ramirez was born in Atlanta’s Grady Memorial Hospital and raised in the mostly African-American section of College Park, Georgia. The young Mexican-American grew up playing basketball at the local Boys & Girls Club, and he often spent time at the homes of those same neighborhood kids.

It was that Hispanic heritage mixed with those longtime relationships with mostly black friends that would eventually inspire Ramirez’s music created under the moniker Kap G. After he first started rapping in high school, Kap would go on to release several projects including the Real Migo Sh*t series and his first official mixtape Like A Mexican.

The Hip Hop artist’s latest collection, El Southside, presents real-life inspired stories of living in the SWATS (Southwest Atlanta Too Strong) told from the perspective of a 21-year-old rhymer on the rise. The mixtape has several big names attached to it as well.

DJ Drama added his influential Gangsta Grillz tag to the tape, and other acts such as Young Thug were recruited for guest appearances. Kap G’s i am OTHER imprint founder Pharrell Williams provides production. In addition, Squat Beats, KE On The Track, Zone 36, and others constructed the sounds found on El Southside.

Kap G is looking to eventually drop a 10-track studio album via Atlantic Records. But before Young Migo lets loose an LP, he spoke with AllHipHop.com about El Southside. The “La Policia” performer also touches on starring in Dope, Donald Trump’s plan to build a wall on the Mexican border, and more.

[ALSO READ: Kap G Kicks A Freestyle Over Drake’s “Energy” Track]

Was it your intent to combine your Atlanta influence and Mexican roots on El Southside?

Yeah, in my own way. I felt like a lot of people rocked with my first mixtape Like A Mexican, but I felt like some people didn’t understand it. So with El Southside, I just wanted to bring them to my side of town, let them know what it is. Kind of dumb it down for the people, but still give my type of style.

Whose idea was it for El Southside to be a Gangsta Grillz release?

It just kind of happened. At first I was going to do an EP. I record at DJ Drama’s Mean Street Studio. One time I had a meeting with my team. We were just talking about what if Drama hosted the mixtape and it’s a Gangsta Grillz. We chopped it up with Drama, and he was with it.

That’s a pretty big stamp of approval when you get that Gangsta Grillz on the cover.

Yeah, definitely. Shout out to DJ Drama. He’s been rocking with me since about 3 or 4 years ago. I met Drama on Peters Street, and he’s been a cool cat ever since. He’s definitely a legend, and I appreciate everything he’s done for me.

On the project, you feature a few Atlanta artists. You have Young Thug, Lucci, and Cash Out. As a young artist from the city, do you feel like Atlanta artists are open to working together?

I feel like we work together. It’s not really too many people that’s on that, “I’m not really f-cking with him.” A lot of people get along. I feel like that’s what makes the culture go further for Atlanta’s music. We support each other.

You have the song “Power” with YFN Lucci. Was the theme of the song’s video based on real experiences?

That was just a concept I had. It didn’t happen just like that. I could relate to it. A lot of it is kind of [based on real experiences], but I didn’t try to do [what happens in the video].

Your song “La Policia” came out before the Mike Brown killing and the Black Lives Matter movement became a big news item. Why was it important for you to speak on that issue at the time that you did?

With my music, I want to be able to touch somebody’s heart. I want the listeners to relate to me. I feel like there’s not a lot of people still doing that. You might listen to the radio and hear songs about having fun, but you don’t really hear songs with substance much no more. I just wanted to give that to people.

Also, it was based on a real experience I had. Something happened to me the day before. I got pulled over and the police were on some real f-ck sh-t. I went to the studio the next day and wrote that track. Unfortunately, all the stuff happened with police taking a lot of lives, so the song was brought back into action some months later. I wrote that song like a year before it started buzzing.

One of the things you talk about on the song is how people treat undocumented immigrants in this country. That’s a big topic now with Donald Trump. What are your thoughts about Trump saying he’s going to build a wall to prevent Mexicans from coming into the country?

That’s just pure ignorance. I can’t relate to that. At the end of the day, I feel like it’s just entertainment. To me, it’s not real at all. If it was anybody of color saying that, the media would make it a big thing. But because it’s Trump, they’re not going to say nothing to him. That’s why it’s our job as artists to be the voice for the people.

How involved is Pharrell in your career?

He’s very involved. I just seen bro like 2 days ago. He flew me out to L.A. to work. He’s a mentor. He really supports me. He tells me, “You need to do this with your music.” If he sees anything wrong, he just keeps me on the right track.

He played a role in you being featured in Dope.

Pharrell actually helped me with that. I was in Atlanta. I got a call. They said, “I want you to audition for this Dope movie.” I was like, “Cool, I’m with it.” I play a character named Fidel. He’s like this Mexican gangster dude. They didn’t really want me to play it at first. They wanted more of the typical cholo with a bald head and tattoos all over. They gave me a try, and when I got on set they were happy with what I did.

Do people ever come up to you and say, “Are you a real? Or are you a fake?”

[laughs] Yeah, people ask me that. It’s crazy to have an impactful role that a lot of people remember. I remember growing up watching films that were classic to me. When I see people that were in those films now, I’m like, “Damn, that’s bro right there.” I never thought I’d be in a movie. It’s crazy.

Are you interested in doing more acting?

Definitely.

One of your label mates, Bia, was on Sisterhood Of Hip Hop. Any chance we could see Kap G on a reality show in the future?

Not really. I don’t really do the reality shows. Shout out to my homie Bia. She’s killing. She got that song “Gucci Comin Home.” It’s going crazy.

Are there any particular artists you’d like to work with?

I want to work with Kanye one day. He’s my favorite rapper and one of my favorite producers. I want to work with Pharrell on a song, not on production. We always work on production, but we never did a song together before. That would be dope. And just my partners that’s around me.

You did some modeling for Rocksmith. Is that something else you’d like to pursue?

Yeah, I’ll do that. Anything for the check. Shout out to Rocksmith. I like fashion, so hopefully I’ll get into it more.

You’ve said your music is based on your experiences in life. So with your track “Girlfriend,” are your boys now more cautious of you being around their girl after that song came out?

[laughs] Nah, man. I’m a loyal individual. I wouldn’t do my partners like that, and they wouldn’t do me like that. Like I said, that was real. We take flicks with people’s girlfriends. [laughs]

What else do you have coming up in the near future?

I’m definitely shooting the video for my song “Move On Up.” I want to shoot one for “Don’t Need Em” with Thug. We’re going to have new visuals coming soon.

Charlamagne Tha God Explains Why He Believes Kendrick Lamar Will Never Match Up To 2Pac (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Since his arrival as one of the biggest current superstars in Hip Hop, Kendrick Lamar has been compared to fellow West Coast representative Tupac Shakur. On Ab-Soul’s “ILLuminate,” Kendrick even talked about how some people expect him to fill the shoes of the late 2Pac.

[ALSO READ: Charlamagne Tha God Debates Tomi Lahren On Beyonce, The Black Panthers & Jay Z (VIDEO)]

Radio and television personality Charlamagne Tha God spoke with Montreality about the comparison between K. Dot and Pac. The host of The Breakfast Club, Brilliant Idiots, and Uncommon Sense thinks it is unfair to compare the two emcees.

“They will never match up. We have to stop doing that to the new guys. We have to stop putting them on the same level as ghosts,” said Charlamagne. “What I mean by ghosts is guys like 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G., Jay Z, Dr. Dre – those are legendary figures who have already done it. They’ve been through every door that any of these new guys could possibly even think of going through.”

He added, “Tupac Shakur is such a mythical figure that even in his death people question if he’s still alive. In order to get to the level that 2Pac is, Kendrick would have to go through similar situations or situations greater than that, [greater] than death.”

While C Tha God may not feel Kendrick should be placed in the same category as certified legends, Lamar did rap on Big Sean’s “Control” that he was one of the best emcees along with Jay, Nas, Eminem, and Andre 3000. The TDE artist has also repeatedly paid homage to 2Pac, including on the track “Mortal Man” off his Grammy-winning album To Pimp A Butterfly.

Prince would later use a picture of Chappelle dressed as him for the cover art to his 2013’s single “Breakfast Can Wait.” Murphy famously spoke about how Prince served him and his friends pancakes following their game of basketball.

Nas Said To Be “Huge Creative Force” On The Netflix Series ‘The Get Down’

(AllHipHop News) Netflix is set to air a new Hip Hop centered series titled The Get Down. The program was developed by Baz Luhrmann. The director of Romeo + Juliet and The Great Gatsby spoke about the 70’s themed show during a panel at the Tribeca Film Festival. Entertainment Weekly reports Luhrmann revealed Hip Hop legend Nas is heavily involved in the project.

“One of the great collaborations is that I’ve been working really closely in creating these rhymes, and he’s a producer on the film, with one of the most iconic voices of the ‘90s and that’s Nas,” said Luhrmann. “And so Nas has been this other huge creative force in the production. And it’s been playing really, really successfully.”

Besides Nas, another rap icon is attached to The Get Down. Grandmaster Flash was tapped to serve as an associate producer, adviser, and character. Mamoudou Athi will play a younger version of the legendary DJ. The show features both fictitious characters and real life figures.

YG Says The Secret Service Contacted His Label Over “F-ck Donald Trump” Song (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) YG, along with Nipsey Hussle, took a loud stand against Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump by releasing the song “F-ck Donald Trump.” The West Coast emcee now claims the track has gotten the attention of the Secret Service.

[ALSO READ: YG & Nipsey Hussle Say “F*ck Donald Trump”]

TMZ spoke with YG at LAX airport. According to the Compton native, his upcoming LP is already being scrutinized by the government agency.

“Secret Service hollered at the label,” said YG. “They asked to see the lyrics on my album to see if I’m talking about [Trump], because if I’m talking about him on my album they’re gonna try and take it off the shelf.”

This would not be the first time the government attempted to block a rap artist’s freedom of speech and freedom of expression. In 1988, N.W.A received a letter from the FBI over concerns that their song “F-ck Tha Police” advocated violence against law enforcement. Police also prevented N.W.A. from performing the record during a concert in Detroit a year later.

In addition, 2 Live Crew’s 1989 album As Nasty As They Wanna Be was ruled to be to obscene for sale in Florida by a U.S. District Court judge. The group was later arrested for performing songs from the album, but they were eventually acquitted of obscenity charges.

Missouri State Senator Reads 50 Cent’s “The 50th Law” During Filibuster Over Law Enforcement Tax

(AllHipHop News) The Missouri Senate is debating over county sales tax collections. On Monday, Democrat Maria Chappelle-Nadal of St Louis began filibustering an amendment to proposed legislation that would allow voters in unincorporated areas of St. Louis County to impose a sales tax for salary increases for the St. Louis County Police Department.

[ALSO READ: 50 Cent Says There Can Be “Gray Areas” When It Comes To Police Killing Citizens]

Chappelle-Nadal delayed the vote on the measure for more than 40 minutes by reading 50 Cent’s book The 50th Law. The senator is attempting to halt salary increases on the police force until her constituents see more reforms in policing practices.

“I do not trust our current leadership whatsoever,” said Chappelle-Nadal. “The people I represent have no confidence in this leadership.”

Following the killing of unarmed teenager Michael Brown by police officer Darren Wilson in 2014, The U.S. Justice Department issued a report that concluded the Ferguson Police Department practices were shaped by revenue rather than by public safety needs. That report also stated a disproportionate number of arrests, tickets, and use of force occur from unlawful bias and stereotypes about African-Americans.

County Police Chief Jon Belmar told a Missouri House committee the added tax money could help boost hiring on the force. He argued if there had been two officers in the car the day Brown was killed the situation may have ended differently.

For the meantime, Chappelle-Nadal achieved her goal. The legislation remains stalled in the Senate. A similar tax bill passed the Missouri House on Monday.

Rachel Roy Scraps Speaking Engagement After Beyonce Fan Attack

(AllHipHop News) Fashion designer Rachel Roy has scrapped a planned appearance in New York, amid reports suggesting she is the woman who allegedly came between Beyonce and Jay Z.

The ex-wife of Hip-Hop mogul Damon Dash had been booked as a speaker at a creative seminar for NeueHouse on Monday, but she pulled out of the gig at short notice.

A statement issued to UsMagazine.com by organizers reads: “Due to a personal emergency, Rachel Roy has had to cancel this evening’s event. Our apologies for any inconvenience.”

The unexpected cancellation was announced amid fevered speculation suggesting Roy is the woman Beyonce calls out for cheating with her man in her new song Sorry.

The tune in question, which debuted as part of the superstar’s Lemonade TV special on Saturday (April 23), features a line in which Beyonce sneers, “He better call Becky with the good hair”.

Roy set social media alight hours after the premiere by sharing a snap of herself on Instagram.com, which she captioned in part, “good hair don’t care” – sparking gossip she was the “Becky” referenced on the track about infidelity, which many fans and followers believe details a troubled patch in Beyonce’s marriage to Jay Z.

The backlash prompted the 42-year-old designer to delete the picture and make her Instagram profile private, to prevent strangers from posting further comments on her page, and she took to Twitter.com on Sunday to blast critics for the cyber-bullying.

“I respect love, marriages, families and strength,” she wrote, without mentioning the controversy itself. “What shouldn’t be tolerated by anyone, no matter what, is bullying, of any kind.”

Roy has never commented on accusations swirling around her close friendship with Jay Z, who launched his first label, Roc-A-Fella Records, with her ex-husband, Dash.

Roy and Dash were married from 2005 to 2009, and they are parents to daughters Tallulah and Ava.

Meanwhile, Beyonce and Jay Z, who are famously private when it comes to their personal lives, have yet to address the song controversy.

Jay Electronica Apologizes To Kendrick And 50 Cent

(AllHipHop News) Jay Electronica has offered an olive branch to 50 Cent and Kendrick Lamar after lyrically attacking them earlier this year.
