South Carolina Inmates Sentenced To Years In Solitary Confinement For Making A Music Video

Seven inmates were sentenced to a combined total of 20 years in solitary confinement for making a music video that landed on WorldStarHipHop, Buzzfeed reports.

The inmates were punished for “creating or assisting with a social media website.” While five of the inmates were sentenced to 180 days in disciplinary detention, one inmate was sentenced to 270 days while another was to serve 360 days. But they were hit hard for having a contraband cell phone and gang-related materials, adding a total of 7,150 days, or over 19 years, to their solitary confinement sentences.

According to the Electronic Frontier Foundation, the average time spent in solitary confinement is 512 days.

They also lost phone, canteen and visitation privileges as well as and good time accrued.  The seven men are serving time for charges like armed robbery and voluntary manslaughter.

The South Carolina Department of Corrections changed the solitary confinement policy in February, making 60 days the maximum sentence in solitary confinement. They also ruled that a social media post is not an individual infraction.

David Banner Talks His Role In Entertainment & Politics, New Album, Music Conferences & More!

Video by J. Wright (@WhoisJwright)

REVOLT TV kicked off the first day of the second annual 2015 REVOLT Music Conference (RMC) in a major way at the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach. Themed, “The Merging of Music, Technology and Innovation, “ the 2015 RMC allowed attendees to personally interact with leaders from both the music and technology industry, gain insight and knowledge from industry trailblazers, and enjoy exclusive musical performances. One of the panels featured on Day 1 was the “Entertainment and Politics: Social Revolution” Panel featuring moderator Omar Dubois, David Banner, Keon Hardemon, and Tef Poe. AllHipHop caught up with David Banner to discuss his role in entertainment and politics, the importance of conferences like the REVOLT Music Conference, his forthcoming album ‘The God Box,’ and more.

Banner expressed that it’s important to have conferences because of the opportunity of getting to network. He wants people to network with a purpose and have constant dialogue. He stated that the problem after conferences sometimes is that people don’t keep in contact, take action, and do the work.

“It takes something as big as Revolt to bring everyone together because people are so consumed with their daily grind.”

When asked about the importance of artists using their voices and platforms to bring awareness to social injustice and movements, Banner stated,

“That’s what I’ve always done. There’s all this talk about the rebel flag but if you remember my first album, ‘Mississippi- The Album,’ Rolling Stone quoted this, I’m from a place where a flag means more than me. It’s the people who only wanted to concentrate on “Like A Pimp” and “Play.” But I’ve always been saying the same things. I was just drunk and oversexed. Now that I have balance and social media, people have the opportunity to see that I live that everyday.”

He also thanked us for supporting his speaking circuit and journey.

“I would like to thank AllHipHop because #AllHipHop has always been a part of me. It’s funny because we’ve grown together. AllHipHop went to a lot of the colleges when I was speaking at the Ivy League colleges!”

Check out our interview with David Banner below! Ladies also get ready for David’s forthcoming press release that will show off what’s underneath his shirt!

Is Kat Stacks Suing WorldStarHipHop?

Photo via Kat Stack’s Instagram

It looks like Kat Stacks is fed up with WorldStarHipHop, and she may be suing them. Her relationship and business relationship with the music site and its founder and C.E.O., Q, have been shaky for some time. Kat said she is suing WorldStar for breach of contract, fraud, slander, interfering with new book sales, defamation of character, harassment, cyber stalking etc. She may have proof that all of these things occurred, but she still better go grab her a great lawyer. We’re sure WSHH may have some dirt on her; she’s Kat Stacks!

10 Times Drake Was Accused Of Riding Another Artist’s Wave

Being inspired or biting? Collaborating or ghostwriting? In Hip Hop, the answers to these questions have always separated potential G.O.A.T. emcees from flash-in-the-pan performers. Aubrey Drake Graham has faced these gripes from the public and some of his peers throughout his career.

AllHipHop.com takes a look at 10 times Drake was accused of trying to take the wave from an artist. Is Drizzy the rap version of Shang Tsung who plunders the creative abilities of other acts in order to maintain his power? Or is the 6 God just a master of embracing the Hip Hop zeitgeist? You be the judge.

Aaliyah

Aaliyah Haughton may have passed away 14 years ago, but her fans still ride hard for the “One In A Million” vocalist. That became perfectly clear when Drake attempted to serve as executive producer for an Aaliyah posthumous album.

In 2012, the Toronto native dropped a track titled “Enough Said” featuring the deceased singer’s voice. Aaliyah’s devotees were not feeling Drizzy’s new song or him overseeing anything having to do with Baby Girl – especially since longtime production partners Timbaland and Missy Elliott were left out of the process. Not surprisingly, the Drake-led Aaliyah album never materialized.

Billionaire Black/Lil Jay

Drake’s music video for “Hotline Bling” hasn’t even been out a full week, but the clip has already spawned numerous memes and reworks with the OVO frontman’s dance moves being the central theme of the online jokes. However, one of Drake’s moves in the vid did not sit well with a Chicago rapper.

Billionaire Black has demanded Drake connect with his FBG crew for doing associate Lil Jay’s “Diddy Bop” in the “Hotline Bling” video. “Everybody at Drake. Tell his ass he better give us a verse or we on his ass,” said Black in his own vlog.

D.R.A.M.

One of the most publicized recent indictments against Drake came from Virginia performer D.R.A.M. He charged the Young Money signee of lifting his internet hit “Cha Cha” for the radio smash “Hotline Bling.”

Twitter exploded when The Social Experiment associate posted “yeah, I feel I got jacked for my record” on the social media platform. Users began debating whether the two songs were indeed similar, but Drake essentially admitted he purposely tackled the vibe of “Cha Cha” in the tradition of Jamaican artists recording over the same riddim.

Fetty Wap

With the crossover success of “Trap Queen,” Fetty Wap stamped his name as an early contender for “Rookie of the Year.” Then the New Jersey representative followed that triumph with “My Way.” The song was originally listed as a Remy Boyz release with Fetty and Monty, but Drake subsequently added his own verse while also cutting Monty from the remix.

In this case, the original artist didn’t have any issue with Mr. Graham hopping on the buzzing single. Fetty revealed Drake actually asked him if he could spit some bars on “My Way.” He replied, “You’re asking me if you can jump on the song? Go head. Do what you do.”

Future

This one is definitely debatable. There are observers that feel Drake’s decision to team up with Future for What A Time To Be Alive was an attempt to get some of the Freebandz boss’ love from the streets and piggyback off his #1 album DS2.

In addition, the soundscape of WATTBA left the impression it was a Future effort with some Drake verses thrown in. Yet, Drizzy was coming off a flawless victory against Meek Mill, and he is by far the most popular rap star of this era – even without the backing of the Future Hive.

Jace of Two-9

It’s well known Drake has a certain appreciation for the city of Atlanta. His last two full length projects (If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, What A Time To Be Alive) are laced with beats from ATL-based producers – proving there’s no doubt Drake keeps an eye on what’s happening in the A’s music scene.

So when Jace of the Atlanta Hip Hop group Two-9 accused Drizzy of stealing his work for the tracks “6 God” and “No Tellin’,” more than a few eyebrows were raised in Drake’s direction. “6 God” producer Syk Sense claimed Drake had that beat first, but there was never any clarification about the “No Tellin’” theft accusation.

Migos

Further proof of Drake’s admiration for the Atlanta sound came in the form of the remix to Migos’ “Versace.” Champagne Papi’s version of the ATL trio’s breakout hit put the single on the radar of a lot of mainstream music fans, and it also provided Drake with a new flow to use.

Quavo and Takeoff have talked about how they gave the Young Money star their blessing, and Drizzy shouted out the Migos and producer Zaytoven at the start of his verse. However, the legendary Trap beatmaker stated he felt so many people embracing the “Versace” flow was a foul play. Zay expressed, “I know last year after [‘Versace’] came out, every rapper that’s in the game was using that same flow. So I almost see it as biting, because people will wear it out.”

Quentin Miller

quentin-miller-drake

The most talked about story in Hip Hop this summer was the Meek Mill vs Drake battle. The feud was ignited by Meek’s allegations that Quentin Miller was “ghostwriting” for Drake. At the time he was thrown into the beef, Q.M. was not a household name, but he had been building his credentials in Atlanta as one half of the WDNG Crshrs.

When the world found out Miller was allegedly paid to pen some of Drizzy’s lyrics, people began questioning the platinum selling entertainer’s authenticity. Quentin declined to call himself a “ghostwriter,” but it was reported that his name was not listed in the credits for the Meek/Drake collabo “R.I.C.O.,” despite a reference track of Miller reciting parts of Drake’s verse leaking.

Sauce Walka

sauce walka

Much like Atlanta, Houston is sort of a second home to Drake. H-Town’s native son Jas Prince is often credited as discovering Drizzy, and the Canadian hosts the annual “Houston Appreciation Week.” But not everyone in Texas is on board with adopting the “Houstatlantavegas” singer.

Sauce Walka slammed Drake for supposedly using Houston’s culture for lyrical content, not giving back to his hometown, and failing to work with the city’s rising talent. The Sauce Twinz member later dropped the diss track “Wack To Wack,” and this week social media users asserted Drake stole Walka’s “sauce” for the “Hotline Bling” video.

The Weeknd

TheWeeknd-Drake-YouTube-screenshot

“That OVO and that XO is everything you believe in,” rapped Drake on his song “Crew Love” featuring The Weeknd. Back in 2011, the two Canadians were openly intertwining their brands. So much that The Weeknd gave up nearly half of his own album to become the bulk of Drake’s Take Care.

The chart-topping crooner is credited as a writer on numerous cuts off Take Care. Aubrey was certainly the bigger artist in 2011, but The Weeknd’s New Wave R&B sound was gaining traction thanks to his House Of Balloons mixtape which was released 8 months before Drake’s sophomore studio LP. The man born Abel Tesfaye recently said, “I’m not gonna say any names, but just listen to the radio. Every song is House of Balloons 2.0.”

Who Is Master P Talking About In This Record?

If things hadn’t gotten bad enough for Master P & his estranged wife, Sonya Miller, they’ve just gotten worse. How did it get this bad?! Sonya Miller says she co-founded No Limit Records with P in 1990, but her son is the co-founder of the new label, No Limit Forever, and she says this is the same company but she can’t receive any money from it. Master P says his soon-to-be ex-wife is worse than ‘Empire’s’ Cookie. We don’t see this getting any better.

Did Nelly Get Into A Social Media Feud Over Ashanti?

It seems like Ashanti still has a spell on Nelly despite the fact that he is now with Miss Jackson. Nelly apparently didn’t take too well to his former associated Loose Cannon Slim making Ashanti his #WCW or Ashanti returning the love by liking Slim’s pictures. Nelly then got the petty itch as he posted a photo of himself and Slim’s baby mama on an old Apple Bottom’s photo shoot with a caption that suggested business and pleasure were mixed after the shoot. Slim must’ve gotten wind of Nelly’s post because he posted a photo of Miss Jackson with a caption that said “Head was so fire I had to take her on the road with me.” Nelly has remained quiet after the last post, but we are sure it’s more to come from these two. They are too old to beef on social media!!

Wale Says Meek Mill “Ain’t No Loser” & Acknowledges His Influence On Pop Culture

(AllHipHop News) Before the back-and-forth with Meek Mill on social media this week, Wale had some nice things to say about the fellow Maybach Music Group star. The DMV native actually defended Meek during his interview with The Breakfast Club which ignited the public feud, and Wale even followed that by also backing up the Dream Chasers leader while speaking with the Rap Radar podcast.

[ALSO READ: Wale Shares 4 New Tracks On Soundcloud]

Wale was discussing how he felt the mainstream press should have left it to Hip Hop media to cover the battle between Meek and Drake. He ended the statement by adding, “[Meek] ain’t no loser… [He sold] a nifty 250 [thousand albums first week].”

Wale was also asked about his impact on sneaker culture. The Album About Nothing creator used the conversation to express how Meek is at a level where he can influence his followers to embrace different trends.

“When an artist becomes popular his interests become pop culture. If Makonnen goes platinum the first week everybody’s gonna be in there like mannequins,” stated Wale. “That’s how it goes. When Meek hit, everybody was bike life.”

The episode was taped prior to Meek’s decision to slam Wale on Instagram for suggesting the “R.I.C.O.” rhymer was not prepared to battle against Drake. Since that IG post, Rick Ross has released a statement claiming the situation is settled, and the team is now focused on releasing MMG’s Self Made Vol. 4 compilation.

Young Thug Calls ‘The Breakfast Club’ The Devil

Not sure exactly what set Young Thug off, but the ATL rapper is not feeling The Breakfast Club. Thugger called the radio show “the devil” on Twitter. Maybe it’s because the Power 105 trio’s questions are often responsible for igniting – or reigniting – feuds in the game [see Game vs Thug, Meek Mill vs Wale].

Co-host Charlamagne Tha God saw Thug’s tweet and added his own response. CTG doesn’t seem to be too concerned about what Thugger had to say.
