Hip-Hop Rumors: Gucci Mane’s Love Triangle?

Wow. Gucci Mane has 99 Problems and 2 bad chicks are two. But, it seems like the world of instagram is giving each of these women some insight into what Gucci is up to with each of them. My sources are telling me that Gucci made a cardinal sin. He bought his ladies a similar dress from the exact same designer. I thought they were wearing the same dress until my “source” told me it was just a different designer. At any rate, Gucci has good taste in dresses and his chicks aint bad either.

Chief Keef Ordered To Pay Monthly And Back Child Support

(AllHipHop News) Chief Keef has been ordered to pay the mother of his daughter $2,600 a month in child support according to TMZ. The court ruled that Keef must also pay $500 for day care and $10,400 in back child support. There is another hearing set for next month to finalize the settlement.

Keef fathered his child at the age of 15 with an unnamed teenage girl. There have been conflicting reports about the young women’s age. TMZ originally reported that the girl is still currently in middle school making her between the ages of 13-15, but journalist Mark Konkol, who covers Chief Keef for DNAInfo Chicago, later reported that the mother is the same age as Keef.

Court documents apparently showed that the 17-year-old makes $13,000 a month, but Keef’s income could be getting a boost after some big business moves he has made recently. Last week he teamed up with Gucci Mane’s Bricksquad 1017, and yesterday Complex posted pictures of the “I Don’t Like” rapper’s new “Beats By Keef” headphones that could be available soon.

Check out the photos of the “Beats By Keef” below.

Havoc’s 10 Best Non-Mobb Deep Beats

Considering the recent release of Havoc’s 13 album and the positive feedback that it is generating, AllHipHop.com thought it was an appropriate time to acknowledge Havoc’s board work with other artists beyond what he is most frequently associated with, Mobb Deep.  And while one of the items on this list does feature the duo, they were merely guests on a song for a rap icon.

Havoc might not be a household name, but that doesn’t negate the fact that he makes beats that are on par with, or even better than, material from producers who are.

Here is AllHipHop.com’s list of Havoc’s 10 Best Non-Mobb Deep Productions.

10). “The Future” by Diddy:  “The Future” doesn’t sound like a beat its producer would typically make.  It’s unrelenting and makes for a very unusual almost techno/pop vibe.  Diddy’s delivery of the words from Pharoahe Monch’s pen is unique on this song too.  It pushes both people out of their comfort zone, and yet works well with the experimental sounds of Diddy’s Press Play.

9). “Shoot ‘Em Up” by Nas: For the most part Nastradamus was a bust, but there’s still definitely something to be said for Havoc’s ability to take “Carol of the Bells” and make a beat out of it with Nas delivering the vivid and violent lyrics atop of it that he does here.

8). “Don’t Need Your Love” by The Game: Havoc can definitely make moody beats, and he gave the Dr. Dre protege one for “Don’t Need Your Love” and The Game takes full advantage.  From rapping about being left in a foster home to getting passed over for a record deal, a lot of ground is covered.  It’s a good emotional song on a gangsta rap album and that is a rarity.

7). “Untitled” by Eminem: Recovery was a helluva comeback album for Eminem.  But after 16 tracks filled with mostly mature and deep writing, Em ended by just rhyming for the sport of it. Eminem seemingly took a cue from his B Rabbit character and closed out the show spitting over a Havoc instrumental.  Clearly, it worked out really well for both of them.

6). “Welcome 2 Hell” by Bad Meets Evil: Considering how powerful Recovery ended, why not start the next project the same way and add another Detroit rapper with outstanding lyrical abilities and flows for days?  The back-and-forth between Eminem and Royce Da 5’9” is masterfully executed here over Havoc’s beat.  If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.  Just make it better.

5). “Beef” by The Notorious B.I.G. feat. Mobb Deep: One of the few redeeming qualities of Biggie’s Duets: The Final Chapter album is Havoc’s take on the King of New York’s “What’s Beef?”  Unlike many of the then-contemporary artists who never actually worked with Big that appear on Duets, it is very easy to tell that Havoc did.  The beat sounds like something Biggie would of rapped on (without sounding dated) and Havoc and Prodigy rhyme with that same tough East Coast vibe of the mid-90s era rap scene.

4). “The Promise” by Foxy Brown feat. Havoc: They both had to deliver.  Havoc needed to prove he could stand on his own two without Prodigy and Foxy needed to separate herself from Lil Kim comparisons.  Given the content and quality of the song, it’s safe to say that they both succeeded.

3). “Usual Suspect” by Big Noyd: Over a gritty snapping track that almost guarantees listeners will be head-bobbing, Mobb Deep-affiliate Big Noyd goes in on this beat with solid rhymes and delivery.  And even though Noyd never quite blew up in his own right, this 1996 song proves that The Infamous duo had a knack for spotting talent in addition to crafting beats and rhymes of their own.

2). “Why” by Jadakiss feat. Anthony Hamilton: Havoc’s use of xylophones on this song mesh perfectly with Anthony Hamilton’s soulful delivery and Kiss’ introspective rap.  The song was such a hit that it even spawned a remix (not produced by Havoc) which had Common asking, “Why is Bush actin like he trying to get Osama?/Why don’t we impeach him and elect Obama?”  And this was in 2004!

1). “Last Day” by The Notorious B.I.G. feat. The Lox:  The amazing thing about this record is that the original beat for “Last Day” got lost.  Therefore, Havoc made this track on the spot with Puff watching over his shoulder.  After Mr. Combs gave it the thumbs up, Biggie approved too.  The resulting song is a Hip-Hop classic with some of New York’s finest behind the boards and on the mic.

Kanye West Becomes Focus Of 45 Minute Fan-Made Documentary [VIDEO]

(AllHipHop News) Kanye West’s life is pretty much like a movie. Every move the rapper/producer makes becomes instant news across the internet. Whether it’s dropping masterful music, delivering one of his classic rants, calling out a sitting president on national television, or tweeting two simple words, the lights are always on Kanye.

With over a decade of experience in the game immeasurable amounts of video footage of Mr. West exists. One Yeezy super-fan reflected on the now legendary career of the Chicago emcee by compiling some of those moments into one 45-minute documentary.

James Workman’s Where The Lonely Kids Go When The Bell Rings explores Kanye West in his own words. Workman crafts a nice remainder of the journey of Kanye through past interviews, performances, and videos.

Workman posted the doc on the Kanye To The fan forum with the following statement:

Mt [sic] first intention was to make like a 10 minute video with Kanye quotes and such, but I had so much material so I decided to make it a tad longer. The closest I could get to a real documentary. (We really need one in all honesty).

My goal was to capture something from every solo album, and the video is basically chronological. Starting with CD and ending with MBDTF.

I entitled it Where The Lonely Kids Go When The Bell Rings (I know that’s not the actual line in Eyes Closed), because I feel like that sums up Kanye’s career – The outsider. The misunderstood genius.

This took me 5000 hours to make so please be kind…

Hip-Hop Rumors: Did Wale Smash Rihanna?

Every so often, I get to do a good deed. Not a lot, but sometimes. Today is one of those days. Over the weekend, rumors sprouted up that Wale had actually smashed Rihanna. Now, before somebody go and tell Chris Brown about this one, let me clear it up. Basically, it all started when somebody got bored. The person got on their computer and got on photoshop and tried to craft a fake message from Wale. It just didn’t work. If Wale did something with RiRi, he ain’t saying it today.

Perhaps the rumors arose, because RiRi and Wale were recently seen in the studio working on music. Apparently, they went out and partied afterward.

Happy Mothers Day – Through The Words Of Nas, Ghostface, Ace Hood, Tupac, Jay-Z And Others Rappers!

Rappers love their mothers! There is no questioning that! Through history, rappers have repeatedly oozed the love they have for moms – as they should. Well, there are lots of songs that talk to mom and, since we are universally celebrating mothers day, play these joints after you finish church, dinner and showering mom with gifts!

“Dear Mama” – Tupac

We might as well get this song out of the way. Tupac’s “Dear Mama” set the bar and there won’t likely be a finer ode from mother to son.

“Hey Mama” – Kanye West

When Donda West died, we cried. Before her tragic passing, Kanye West had already honored his mother in song. Its awesome that she her this song before her death. Ye, we honor you as we play this for our mothers. Here is the touching 08 Grammy performance.

“Love My Momma” – Snoop Dogg

What does Snoop love more than that ganja? You guessed it, his momma!

“Spoke To My Momma” – Ace Hood

The struggle is real and most rappers just want to by their mother a new house and to repay them for all that they have done. Its never possible, but Ace Hood makes a compelling case in this touching, heart felt old to his mother.

“All That I Got” – Ghostface Killah

Few songs can make thugs cry, but Ghostface took it there on “All That I Got Is You,” a song honoring his mother and grandmother. With Mary J. Blige on the hook, this gem resonates with anybody that had a mother that fought and stubbled for their kids. Shout out to the Old Earths!

“Momma Can You Hear Me” – Talib Kweli

Talib Kweli is one prolific writer and his mother was the root of his greatness. He honors her on this underappreciated gem.

“Mom Praying” – Beanie Sigel ft. Scarface

We’ll never get that Mac and Brad album, but that’s OK. Beanie Sigel and Scarface hooked up for “Mom Praying.” Thugs like this still need that special prayer than only a mother can deliver. The last verse is priceless.

“Momma Love Me” – Jay-Z

This one one of Jay’s simplest songs yet one of those that we got to know the business man from the heart.

“You Only Get One” – Skillz

Skillz put out one of the best mothers dedication, with tears and all. Not enough people have heard this song, which was written after his mother passed away. Bless Skillz and his mother.

“Dance” – Nas

When Nas’ mother passed away, Hip-Hop hurt. He wrote this dedication to her and offers a glimpse into his life as well.

BONUS: “Guess Who” – Goodie Mob

When the Goodie Mob was whole, they convened to create this rugged, but beautifully touching song to their moms. The 90’s was a long time ago, but this one endures.

Phoning in the Revolution: Exploring Race and the Technological Consumer with Insight from Chuck D

The views and opinions expressed herein are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of AllHipHop.com

How much have you spent on electronics in just the last 12-24 months? How about your friends and family? And what did you and/or your community get back from it? Really? How does race impact the way tech companies market products?

Hip-Hop, African-Americans in particular, have always been out front when it comes to electronic gadgets/mobile phones and as such have been the champion for all things electronic in the process. Everything from “motorola two-way page me” in lyrics to close ups of cell phones in videos, Hip-Hop has been key in making electronics companies untold fortunes through its constant promotion, support and usage. According to research statistics from Nielsen mobile, African-Americans are actually more likely to own a SmartPhone than other racial groups, and according to Pew Research Center, Black women Tweet more from their cell phones than any other ethnic group in this country.

It’s statistics like these that should equal power. Yet typically we see Caucasian hands gripping phones in print ads, and coverage on Black owned tech start-ups a rarity in the edgy tech media, save during Black History Month and an occasional bone thrown. The money and media support simply doesn’t seem to be filtering back to Blacks who contribute so very much to a multi-trillion dollar industry. Why?

The tech-savvy Hip-Hop legend Chuck D senses an issue. In a recent interview about tech and race he explained, “If I had to say one way or the other I’d say that most tech-related companies today are pretty arrogant. Do they see an importance in reaching out to diverse markets in this country? For me, it’s like they’ve decided “buy it/use it or don’t”, it doesn’t really matter that Black Americans spend millions on these gadgets and stuff and tons of time (on their social platforms). Who cares about statistics? They know we’re going to buy/use these tech products, phones and more; so it seems they could care less.”

He continues, “And the way it’s all set up; it’s encouraged to be like another appendage and (for those platforms that have a monthly invoice for usage) don’t miss a payment; then it gets gangsta. The only way I see more diversity happening both inside of these companies and with their strategies is for a collective push to happen like in Montgomery, Alabama back in the day.”

Perhaps it is this, coupled with President Barack Obama’s 2013 inauguration speech just a few months ago that encourage Edward Richards to co-found the 1.21 Movement. Richards explains, “As I was listening to what Barack Obama said at the Capitol I was crazy moved. He talked about how everybody should be included in this tech game. I looked around and thought, I don’t even really see us represented the way we should be, let alone ‘included’ when it comes to tech. So I got together with some friends and launched the 1.21 Movement. We’ve got quotes from King to Kanye, stats and more to open people’s eyes.”

The 1.21 offers a blog, Facebook page and Twitter page to encourage direct comments to major tech companies who are not including us in media or supporting media organizations that don’t support Blacks by spending advertising dollars at those outlets.

“But what has gotten some of the most feedback,” explains Richards, “has been our YouTube channel featuring our ‘People on the Street’ series. We are asking regular people if they know how much money is being spent, how these companies get down. And when they find out they are shocked. Some of the videos are really funny too, given these people’s reactions.”

And just what are some of those statistics? For example, Pew Research released information just two months ago that shows that Caucasians who own a cell phone decreased two points. Blacks are a target as avid consumers. Blacks have also been deemed “ahead of the digital curve” according to Think With Google. We also spend a proportionately higher income of our discretionary spending on electronics than any other demographic in this country, according to a BET survey. But what are we getting in return? Are we even being respected?

“Here’s the thing,” says Chuck D. “There’s also just a lot of dumb people now in our society. Larger business knows it so they’re like, ‘yeah, here’s something for your dumb a**: a new phone, a new game.’ It’s like everyone’s got a Wii, but they have no idea how it works. That’s, like, the big secret. Why aren’t more young people trying to figure that out and more?”

Indeed. Surely an Alicia Keys or Samuel L. Jackson appearing in an ad might not seem equivalent to the $39 billion we spend in electronics. Most Black communities are in a very poor state in this country, and the wealth gap between Blacks and Whites is said to being growing exponentially and fast.

“Where is the commitment from tech companies in terms of grants and internships to Black and schools so they can be power players in the tech game and not just consumers?” asks Richards. “They need to be creating special programs to hire and train the next generation of tech leaders and those who report on them. It’s like the new invisible man. They say that can’t find us. It’s not true, but if If they can’t find enough of us, they have a responsibility to help create them. And when we need more Black writers at these tech magazines and major magazines to represent us more consistently. That kills two birds with one stone in terms of wealth increase. How are phone companies gonna just put their money, which is from our pockets, on these magazine sites that don’t even include us on staff? How does that make sense?”

“I think we’re in a position where we can no longer be taken for granted. This movement needs people to show support by leaving comments on our sites asap,” says Richards. “Please! Because that is where the power is. If we were able to do it in the past for other things, we can do it now. It’s like economic (genocide),” he concludes. “And our kids can’t become what they can’t see. I believe this is part of what Obama meant in his speech!”

Chuck D’s sentiments are equally strong. He says, “Yeah, these tech companies definitely should have more accountability with the (balance of dollars and deals). We really need to look at what’s happening because for me, Hip-Hop is technology — from the two turntables and a microphone it’s all about the combination of technology to express a lifestyle and creative vision.”

Truly, Hip-Hop is strength for technology. Just this week, the famed Smithsonian in Washington, DC has announced its Smithsonian Places of Invention exhibit is slated to open in spring 2015 at the Lemeson Center, part of the National Museum of American History. It will pay homage to the Bronx as a place for “hot spot for innovation” along side Silicon Valley and other cities in our nation. The Bronx is being singled out due to its contribution to turntables technology, usage of hotwired streetlamps and more. Accolades are wonderful, but if you compare household income between say, the Bronx and Silicon Valley, it’s staggering. Seems like it’s time to put a few things in balance. Maybe the 1.21 Movement will do just that, with a little help from Hip-Hop.

Hip-Hop Rumors: You Won’t Believe The Lyrics In Kanye’s New Song!

AW MAN…Kanye West. I’ll tell you…this dude, whether hitting his head on a sign or flying private to see him BM, is always in the rumors.

The latest rumor is a cray cray on where he is supposedly dissing…i don’t know. It just sounds weird. A new song has supposedly leaked to the public. A dude named Hudson Mohawke performed at the Free Form Festival last night. When he played he reportedly leaked a teeny snippet of a song from Kanye West with an interesting lyric. Kanye reportedly said “There’s leaders and there’s followers but I’d rather be a d*ck than a swallower.” Why does that line just not sound right to me? Some, like Pitchfork, are already calling it classic Kanye. Maybe I am not hipster enough.

Like a Bawse: Rick Ross Sits Courtside @ Heat vs Bulls Eastern Conference Semifinals

You gotta be a boss – better yet a “bawse,” if you’re gonna have courtside seats for the NBA playoffs in Miami. We’re talking about Lebron, D-Wade, Chalmers, Birdman and Cole versus one of the NBA’s most legendary franchises, the Chicago Bulls. Even though D-Rose, Luol Deng and Kirk Hinrich have all been out, its made for an entertaining series up until the last game, so it was no surprise when MMG CEO Rick Ross decided to check out Game 2 in Miami.

While the Heat led by as much as 46 points, Rick Ross watched Lebron and company take down the energetic Joakim Noah and Nate Robinson amidst a series of technical fouls and ejections for the Bulls.  Joined by his son and other members of the MMG team, the Dre Films/Maybach Music Films piece shows Ross and his son doing it big.

Kendrick Lamar Plays Principal for a Day at Rhode Island High School

(AllHipHop News) As Kendrick Lamar’s Good Kid m.A.A.d. City steadily approaches platinum status, Kendrick Lamar has been busy on the road hitting tour date after tour date, making guest appearances across the country.

One of those stops was at a Rhode Island High School as part of Kendrick’s participation in the “Get Schooled” campaign, encouraging kids to stay in school and show up to class.

Kendrick made his stop in Providence, RI to visit Mt. Pleasant High School after the school won a competition by increasing their attendance by 4%.

During the visit Kendrick met students, visited classrooms and participated in a school wide assembly.

Get Schooled has focused on attendance as an important factor in student performance as it’s one of the best predictors of high school graduation rates and college readiness.

While at Centennial High School in Los Angeles, Lamar was the first in his family to graduate from high school, and did so with a 4.0 GPA.

“Without education you don’t have anything,” said Kendrick Lamar. “My teachers were great positive influences in my life. My middle school English teacher was probably the reason I became a rapper. He used to encourage me to write poetry and would challenge me, which helped me improve my vocabulary and made me enjoy writing.”

Mount Pleasant High School is one of just a handful of middle and high schools in the nation that “Get Schooled” is recognizing for its attendance gains.
