(AllHipHop News) They wanted it, and now the Till Family feels that they can move on since Mountain Dew dropped Lil Wayne from their “DeWeezy” campaign.
Airickca Gordon-Taylor, Executive Director of Mamie Till Mobley Foundation, said the following in a statement.
“Back in February, when I first heard the lyrics, I was in utter shock, disappointment and sadness. Just as Mamie Till Mobley didn’t endure the pain of losing Emmett Till alone, many people have stood in solidarity with our family, even if it wasn’t the most popular stand to take.
“The road less traveled is surely not the easiest but standing for your principles provides the endurance needed to fight for human and civil rights. This decision was monumental, we commend Mountain Dew for taking action towards better social responsibility, and now I finally feel that we can exhale and focus on our beloved Mamie Till Mobley’s charge, “Let’s get on with the business of positive thinking and living”.”
Simeon Wright was an eyewitness to the kidnapping of Emmett Till. He was shocked that the Pepsi-owned Mountain Dew decided to cut ties with one of the biggest rappers out.
“This is beyond my expectations, I’m pleased that it happened and it shouldn’t waited for public outcry. Anything that belittles or degrades the memory of Emmett Till shouldn’t be in the public square,” Wright said. “Racism is still out there. Whatever you listen too, whatever you do, get an education. ‘Don’t let this system destroy you.'”
Had the Till Family simply gotten the apology they deserved, this may not have happened.
As you probably already can tell, I’m not all that in tune with what’s going on with Boosie, but my readers do. So, here is a cool letter about him that shows a more human side. But, another of my sources told me that Boosie will be home at the end of May.
Torrence Hatch was acquitted. What happens with Marlo Mike doesn’t affect Torrence Hatch. The charge he initially received locked him up, to ultimately bring forth the charges he was recently acquitted of. Now, that initial charge was his first offense for that particular charge. Providing he didn’t have those additional charges for supposedly smuggling contraband. He would be out now. With all that said, he could be out as early as the summer, but most likely early 2014. Unfortunately there is still that good O’l boy spirit that walks the halls of East Baton Rouge’s legal system. They pretty mad they couldn’t convict him on that. More so that he ‘s living just as comfortable, if not better than the prominent rich doctors and lawyers in Baton Rouge. I’m not proclaiming we’re besties, but I did attend high school with him. All in all that guy has a huge heart, and that’ll never probably get shown. When he says “Boosie love the kids” ; that guy takes care of those kids in Baton Rouge. If somebody would do a Documentary on him, you would look at him different than how the media is trying to make him out to be.

I heard a hilarious rumor! Rumor has it Sarah Palin is looking to make a mainstream comeback by doing a rap video for a song called “There Ya Go.” Apparently, the song is going to be dissing President Obama, like, “You wanted Obama…there you go!” The source is apparently person that was in a writing session of the ghost writer.
Meanwhile, some idiots are looking for Palin to run for the Senate.
Killer Mike took an interesting stance on the Mountain Dew / Pepsi thing. He said on Twitter, “I wonder will Wayne and Tyler will now ask Fans to boycott Pepsi/MtnDew?” They don’t think that far ahead.

They are looking more and more like TLC!

Please email me what you know about Lil Boosie coming home this summer. Yeah, I heard the man is coming back to his momma, despite those that hold those “Keep Boosie In Jail” signs. I don’t know much more than that. I do know Boosie was in a serious bind and accused of putting a hit on somebody. So, this could be bogus.

(AllHipHop News) Today Pepsi Co and Mountain Dew dropped Lil’ Wayne from his deal after the YMCMB president and CEO referenced civil rights victim Emmett Till in a song.
After a week where Emmett Till’s family rejected Lil’ Wayne’s apology, Wayne was ultimately dropped for having rapped the lyrics, “Bout to put rims on my skateboard wheels / Beat that pu**y up like Emmett Till.”
Also on the song “Karate Chop” was Atlanta rapper Future, who has had a string of hits over the past month, but who was also on controversial Rocko song featuring Rick Ross, “U.O.E.N.O.”

This has been a trying week for Pepsi Co and Mountain Dew as the company was forced to remove a racially charged commercial featuring Tyler, the Creator’s voice as a goat.
In a brief statement by Pepsi Co. today, the company stated that Lil’ Wayne’s, “offensive reference to a revered civil rights icon does not reflect the values of our brand.”
The news comes just weeks after Rick Ross was dropped by Reebok for making a reference to using a date rape drug to rape women.
This piece originally ran on TheGrio.com.
It wasn’t our parents who introduced us to Assata Shakur. It was hip-hop. Chuck D of Public Enemy broke the thick, cold ice when he bellowed, “supporter of Chesimard!” in the group’s seminal song “Rebel Without A Pause.”
However, Assata Shakur, known to her haters by her married name, JoAnne Chesimard, lived a graphic tale that began well before the 1987 classic song by P.E. Shakur, 65, was accused of the 1973 murder of state trooper Werner Foerster during a traffic stop in New Jersey. A member of the Black Liberation Army, Shakur was convicted in 1977, even though her case was wrought with controversy (she has consistently denied killing Foerster and proclaimed her innocence). And then she famously escaped, and fled to Cuba. Chuck D name-checked her, and sparked a lot of brain cells in the youth who were consuming rap music at a time when her name was not ringing many bells.
After Chuck D came others in rap who acknowledged Shakur in their lyrics, like revolutionary rapper Paris, the jazzy Digable Planets, militant crew X-Clan, and Common, a more palatable purveyor of conscious rap. Assata’s name came up in 2011 when Common was invited to the White House to perform, as many on the Right took exception to his early lyrical content. They were also offended at his outright, unapologetic support for Shakur on “A Song for Assata,” who is now widely known only as a “convicted cop killer” as if injustice didn’t exist in America.
But hip-hop also embraces Assata for a reason deeper than any name-check.
Her godson, Tupac Shakur, was probably the biggest name ever in rap music. Many have fantasized that Pac is in Cuba right now, chillin’ with his step aunt. Although most people gravitate to the thug in Pac, he had revolutionary blood in his veins. He’s mother was a Black Panther and his stepfather Mutulu Shakur, also an activist, is considered a political prisoner by his supporters. Mutulu is in jail right now for helping his sister, Assata, in her escape from prison on November 2, 1979. These are the ones Tupac considered “real n***as.” We absorbed that in his songs as he name checked them.
The wormhole goes deeper.
The Rebel…With A Cause
Shakur holds a major distinction that probably contributes to the ire of her detractors. Simply put, she got away. Davey D, a hip-hop activist and historian, says her supporters can relate to her success at bucking the system.
RELATED: Assata Shakur Becomes First Woman on Terrorist List
“Of course she was a rebel,” Davey says. “She’s been a rebel — not in some sort of nostalgic way — but in a real way that people can relate to.” And he says Shakur’s supporters in the world of hip-hop “don’t see her as some crazed cop killer, the way the popular narrative would have you believe. She was somebody who was about defending our community. She comes on the scene [as a] response to our community [being] attacked” by racist forces.
More than anything, Assata Shakur’s story feels to her supporters like she was at one with hip-hop’s sense of rebellion. At the core, hip-hop music has balked at convention in all its forms. The culture itself was bred out of a particularly dark period in the Bronx the late 70’s and early 80’s, when the young black and brown society that would eventually give birth to hip-hop culture felt marginalized and dismissed by the entire nation. Some in the community accused the government of overtly conspiring against young people of color with everything from crack cocaine to “Reaganomics.” Through it all, hip-hop was born, survived and, in some ways, escaped those conditions, something that feels familiar in Assata Shakur’s story.
Rosa Clemente, the fiery grassroots organizer, hip-hop activist and journalist, lets it be known exactly why she and others gravitate to Assata.
“Hip-hop culture inherently speaks truth to power and tries to act against power,” Clemente says. “Assata Shakur, through her life and her freedom, not only speaks against power, she escaped from the most powerful military empire in the world. That is why they want her [so badly]. She comes out of a time in history — the late 60’s, early 70’s — when this country was on the cusp of a revolution. The Black Panther Party was named the biggest internal security threat to the USA. The state used all its power through the COINTELPRO program to stop this.”
Rob “Biko” Baker, who helms the League of Young Voters, agrees, stating that urban youth are in a similar fight every day, albeit not as dramatic.
“Hip-hop is attracted to Assata Shakur because her story represents the oppression, pain and hopefulness of the hip-hop generation,” Baker says. “While her life’s work may anger some politicians, the harsh reality of racism and exclusion in the 60s and 70s forced many to adopt a more militant brand of protest politics. Those of us who grew up in the 80s and 90s know that racism and exclusion continued and was reinforced by the war on drugs. Assata’s story shows the hip-hop generation that it is possible to survive.”
Hip-hop at a tipping point
Its a fact that people of color have been victimized in America in ways that continue to this day, from systemic racism to environmental racism to inequalities in nearly every facet of life. Every statistic imaginable supports this notion. Still, people forge ahead with conviction. Detractors may not agree, but hip-hop’s adoration of Assata Shakur is not blind. It’s complicated. It’s rooted in history: past, present, and and probably future. Assata is not O.J. Simpson. She too is complex to be bound by linear, elementary terms like “cop killer” and “domestic terrorist.”
Hip-hop has seen how mainstream groupthink helped reduced Tupac to a common thug. Hip-hop has also seen how police troll rap music websites and maintain dockets on artists, tracking them like future crooks. And we’ve seen hip-hop launch as the most revolutionary art form to originate on American soil, and with all that potential, turn into what today seems to be a tool to keep people brain dead — drugged-up students of a new game who go on to major in party and minor in bullsh*t.
In a 2000 interview with Christian Parenti, Assata Shakur spoke about the power and potential downfall of hip-hop.
“Hip-hop can be a very powerful weapon to help expand young people’s political and social consciousness,” she said. “But just as with any weapon, if you don’t know how to use it, if you don’t know where to point it, or what you’re using it for, you can end up shooting yourself in the foot or killing your sisters or brothers.”
Typically, America loves the outlaw (The Outlaw Josey Wales), the rogue cop (Dirty Harry) jailbreak prisoners (Escape from Alcatraz) … as long as it’s a white guy portrayed by the likes Clint Eastwood. Real outlaws, not so much.
So forget, for a moment, all of the political-social-conspiracy-activist talk about fighting the powers that be, runaway slaves and the like. In a quintessentially American way, some folks in hip-hop just appreciate the raw “gangsta” of a woman who didn’t back down, stood firm in her convictions, completely bucked the system, and lived to tell The Pope about it.
50 CENT STARTING SOME MESS!

I know this rumor will probably get ME in trouble, but I did start it! 50 Cent started this one! First of all, very simply, he posted a picture of Diddy and Ross, seemingly in a compromising space. Basically, kissing. Yuck. So, we can all agree this picture is probably bad or just fake. But, still 50 messing with dudes like that? LOL!
In all fairness, cats had similar stuff to say about 50 Cent and The Game when they made peace back in the day.

On the flip side, 50 Cent took a pair of Dr. Dre Beats headsets and tossed them at the Mixshow Summit thing that was recently in Las Vegas. He threw them on the floor – straight like that! I wonder whose they were because those things are expensive!
Damn, FIDDY! Anyway, Dre sold his stake anyway so its more of a shot to Monster.

I heard a rumor!
Check it. The word on the street is that Kanye was NOT tweeted cryptically the other day to sublimially announce his album release date. No, word is he was revealing the day he and Kim K. get married. Or as they say down south, “murried.”
Its Friday so I am going to just pass this over to the good folks at RadarOnline, who made this up, I mean talked to their sources.
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have finally set a wedding date, and RadarOnline.com has all the details.
After months of will-they-or-won’t-they speculation, the couple is going to tie the knot in a lavish wedding in the Los Angeles area right after the birth of their child, an insider close to reality TV’s first family tells Radar exclusively.
Kim is set to exchange “I do’s” wearing an “ethereal white wedding dress,” the source said, and wants a location “where they can hear the waves and be married under the moon and stars.
Kanye has made it completely clear to Kim that he does not want ANY media at the wedding and they will not sell their wedding photos for profit.
“Instead, Kanye says they should consider a donation to one of Kim’s charities like the Skin Cancer Foundation, or Mattel Children’s Hospital in a deal around the wedding for a short film,” the insider said.
MEANWHILE…RAY-J IS MAD!!!

I’ll tell you why. It seems like Ray-J was seriously looking for a big explosion of controversy after he released the video for “I Hit It First,” which contained some references to Kanye. Kanye is known to be a bit of a loose cannon and therefore, prone to let it be known. But, he didn’t. On the low, we heard Ye was not happy about it all, but publicly – NADA. Ray-J’s video came and left. OH WELL! I still have yet to see the video for the song, but I heard its hilarious! I need to peep it.

Rappers and people in Hip-Hop are already often looked to with great admiration. So for those in the culture who couple that with characteristics of super heroes, the mystique of masks, capes, and alter-egos, it creates an even greater risk that their abilities will not amount to the level of amazement that one would expect. But the greater the risk, the greater the reward.
And for some, the risk paid off. With the release of Iron Man 3 on May 3 (tomorrow), AllHipHop took a moment to recognize how some of rap’s finest have embraced the “super hero” status. On more than one occasion, they have helped save Hip-Hop with their skills and ultimately lived up to the proclamations that their personas project.
Here are AllHipHop.com’s Top 5 Super Hero Hip-Hop Figures:
5). DJ Green Lantern: In addition to being Shady Records’ DJ at a time when the label was white-hot, Green Lantern also produced Ludacris’ Grammy-nominated banger, “Number One Spot.” Even after leaving Shady as a result of a dispute with 50 Cent, Green kept it moving. He was on the 1s and 2s for Jay-Z’s first international tour in 2006 and he currently resides in Atlanta where he works with radio station V-103 FM and hosts a show on Sirius XM’s Hip-Hop Nation.
4). David Banner: As a rapper and producer, David Banner capitalized on the emergence of southern rap in the 2000s and released a series successful albums and singles. However, always being one to change with the times, Banner and producer 9th Wonder released Death of a Pop Star in 2010, an album about the demise of the music industry. Two years later, Banner’s independent album, Sex, Drugs, and Video Games, was released online for free.
3). Jean Grae: It’s no surprise that Jean Grae adapted her name from Jean Gray, a super-heroine who possesses telekinetic powers. The thought and focus of Grae’s rhymes move listeners on a regular basis. She is a skilled lyricist who has a flow to match. And even though she has seemingly come in and out of the industry in the past decade, her material has real staying power. Her collaborations with Talib Kweli, Immortal Technique, and Masta Ace (among others) don’t hurt either.
2). MF Doom: Considering Doom’s experiences (losing his brother to a car crash, having his group dropped and second album shelved), one can’t blame him for abandoning Five Percent Nation raps and then re-emerging years later as a rap super villan bent on revenge. Ironically though, the man who “came to destroy rap” upon his return to it ended up doing just the opposite by simply destroying the competition with his avant-garde style.
1). Ghostface Killah: While aliases and cinematic albums cripple lesser artists, Ghostface (a/k/a Tony Starks) is able to embrace it all and that has made him one of rap’s greatest storytellers ever. Wether talking tough on “Crimonology” or paying respect to his mother on “All That I Got is You,” the man is equally convincing in both scenarios. And that leaves many people wondering the same thing he did on 2006’s “The Champ”: “While y’all stuck on Laffy Taffy/ Wondering how y’all n****s get past me/I been doing this since before Nas dropped the Nasty”
Do you agree with the list? Share your thoughts in the comments section below!
(AllHipHop News) As if having his hand in bringing the Nets to Brooklyn wasn’t enough, Marcy projects bred rapper and music mogul, Jay-Z, is part of a group looking to renovate the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum outside New York City on Long Island.
Attending the meeting Thursday, Jay-Z and his partners briefed media on four potential plans to renovate the arena and surrounding areas.
While the Coliseum is home to the NHL’s New York Islanders, the team is expected to move from the 40-year-old coliseum to Brooklyn by 2015
Nassau County officials have been working to execute a proposal for several years, but nothing has come to fruition to date.
Although Jigga took photos with the Nassau County officials, he did not speak to the media during the lengthy presentation
Jay-Z’s Roc Nation is part of the same group played a crucial role in building the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
More news as details emerge.

The streets are just talking and I hope they are wrong, because it seems like Future got a good thing going with Ciara. They seem to really like each other. And on the flip side, it seems like Shawty Lo doesn’t need another baby momma. Anyway, there is some chick named Jai Jai. I never heard of her, but she’s quite the vixen. Apparently, before this Future rumor, she was Shawty Lo’s main piece. Now, they are saying that the chick is pregnant and it may be one of the two. Nobody is saying a lot. I’ve heard people say that its definitely Shawty Lo’s 12th kid and I’ve heard its one of Future’s growing flock. Honestly, she’s flaunting the baby crazy. She must be proud. Are babies the new rap video for vixens, because a lot of them are getting knocked up.

Oh…she’s not a vixen. She’s a rapper. So vixens are the new rappers.

(AllHipHop News) Kendrick Lamar’s music is multifaceted, lyrically dense and after last night’s The good kid m.A.A.d. city Art Show in Brooklyn last night (May 2nd) it is now truly inspirational.

(AllHipHop News) Tyler, the Creator’s unapologetic nature is what not only fuels his art but usually is the core of his persona. After receiving backlash for his Mountain Dew commercial over racist undertones, Tyler told Billboard that he represents the advancement of Black men and not racism.
[ALSO READ: Tyler The Creator and Mountain Dew Facing Criticism For New Ad Being Called Racist]
Responding to Syracuse University professor and social analyst Dr. Boyce Watkins, who called the spot “arguably the most racist commercial in history” Tyler believes the video can ultimately be influential:
It’s a young black man who got out of the ‘hood and made something of himself, who’s now working with big, white-owned corporations. Not even in front of the camera acting silly, but directing it. I’m trying to be one of the directors. But instead of looking at the positivity from that, he’s trying to boycott Mountain Dew. Now that he’s doing that, not only is it messing up opportunities for me, but also maybe opportunities for another young black male who maybe looks up to me and wants to do that in the future. It’s ludicrous.
[ALSO READ: Tyler The Creator’s Manager Issues Statement About Controversial Mountain Dew Ad]
Dr. Watkins tweeted a retraction to his statement after studying Tyler’s music and accepted Tyler’s invitation for a one-on-one conversation:
@fucktyler– let’s make it happen. My daughters love your music, so I respect your brilliance and creativity.DM me. We’ll talk
— Boyce Watkins (@drboycewatkins1) May 1, 2013
According to Tyler, the conversation has not happened yet and promises that the controversy is “not gonna change my art in any way.”
Dr. Watkins released a video response to Tyler’s Billboard article reiterating his changed perspective on Tyler’s music however making it clear that the commercial itself was still reprehensible:
“When it comes to that ad, with all the stereotypes that wer being presented to the American public, it doesn’t matter who made the ad. Jesus could’ve made that ad. Santa Claus could’ve made the ad. That doesn’t change the ad. That doesn’t change what the public sees. I think that Tyler thinks that maybe because I feel that he’s not as bad of a person as I originally thought he was that I am saying the ad is ok. The ad isn’t ok!”
Check out Dr. Boyce Watkins’ video response below:
