Chris Brown, Kanye Win Big At American Music Awards

This year’s American Music Awards proved to be anything but a disappointment for Kanye West.

The rapper/producer was among the winners as he took home awards for favorite rap/hip-hop album for Graduation and favorite rap/Hip-Hop male on Sunday (November 23).

“I’d like to thank everyone who accepted me trying to break new boundaries in music,” said West, who encouraged his fellow entertainers to elevate their talents to create music that rivals the classic material of the 1960’s. “It’s our responsibility as musicians to keep pushing each other. … We will be the new Beatles, the new (Jimi) Hendrix. I want to be Elvis.”

As he returned to the stage to accept his second award, West decided to give the honor to a more deserving nominee.

“I really appreciate these two awards. I want to give this award to Wayne for this year,” the rapper said. “If it was last year, it would have been my award. This year, it’s Wayne’s award. We’ll see what happens next year.”

Despite West’s double recognition, the night’s big winner was R&B crooner Chris Brown, who collected AMAs for artist of the year, favorite pop/rock male artist and favorite soul/R&B artist.

Other multiple winners included Alicia Keys, who received favorite pop/rock and favorite soul/R&B album honors for her latest release As I Am and Rihanna who garnered the awards for favorite pop/rock and favorite soul/R&B female artist.

“I’m very, very shocked and proud to be here,” said Keys, who dedicated her second award to all the superwomen and her first award “to all the incredible artists who are here tonight and who show their artistry.”

In addition to West and Rihanna, the AMAs included performances from show opener Christina Aguilera, Pink, New Kids on the Block, Beyonce, Leona Lewis, Taylor Swift, the Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, Coldplay, Sara McLaughlin, the Pussycat Dolls, Ne-Yo, Annie Lennox and Mariah Carey.

Keys also took the stage to close the show as she brought out Queen Latifah and opera singer Kathleen Battle for “Superwoman.”

Wyclef Jean Mansion Foreclosed and Up for Sale

Former Fugees member Wyclef Jean is at the center of a new situation concerning his recently foreclosed Miami Beach mansion.

The Palm Beach Post reports that Jean took out a $2 million mortgage from Home Equity Mortgage Corp. in 2004 to purchase the estate through a corporation he owns with several friends.

Although the rapper/producer set out to renovate the canal-front property, the foreclosed home, which was appraised at $1.4 million, was left unfinished for more than two years as a series of construction liens were filed.

In addition, the property garnered $6,200 in fines from the city of Miami Beach once the $900,000 construction project halted after Jean and his partners couldn’t come up with the $177,913 in construction costs needed to finish the effort.

Court documents note that a lien was put on the property this year by the project’s architects, who have tried to collect $75,000 owed to them since 2004.

In all, Jean’s corporation now owes the bank $2.4 million.

As a result of the foreclosure, Miami-Dade county will sell the mansion in downtown Miami on December 12.

Court records also show that Jean has not paid employees who worked on the home. The entertainer has yet to comment on the situation.

Sunday Selection: Estelle ft. Sean Paul “Come Over”

Hey Everybody! Hope all is well. This week I got my hands on a few new tracks, but I decided that I would revisit one I came about a few weeks back. It’s been a good year for the Brits across the pond and we’ve seen several artists draw their claim to fame.  Despite her shortcomings Amy Winehouse earned several Grammy Awards, Leona Lewis dominated the charts, M.I.A provided the hook for one of T.I.’s biggest tracks of the year (“Swagga Like Us”), Lily Allen has become a favorite, and Estelle has begun to show the world what she has to offer. Her latest track featuring Sean Paul “Come Over” possesses a sound that fits the title of “feel good music.” I absolutely love this joint. The sound, the arrangement, the lyrics…it’s a hot track! The first time I heard it I was drawn to it. I played it several times and even got up and danced. And recently, I saw the video and I think that might have solidified my choice to cover it this week. Sean Paul and Estelle have a great on-screen chemistry. A lot of people have had a lot to say about Estelle’s physical features, but her internal beauty extends way beyond the imperfect smile. She brings forth a unique style and sound which is needed today in R&B music. Well thanks for taking time out to read what I had to say this week.Until next time y’all enjoy this week’s Sunday Selection – “Come Over”

SICK SUNDAYS: R.I.P. MC BREED, Class of ’98, Young Buck Returns & More

Once again it’s on and popping. Welcome to another edition of Sick Sundays.  Before we get it in I have to give a tremendous rest in peace salute to MC Breed.  Before the Bone Thugs, And Twista and Kanye and Common, MC Breed represented the Midwest with aplomb, skill and dignity.Everybody remembers his duet with Pac before the Death Row days, “Gotta Get Mine.”  Even more people remember his first major jump off with “Ain’t No Future In Your Frontin.'” Let it be known that Breed was the first Midwest dude to have credible sales and be commercially viable from the Midwest (Flint Michigan Stand Up), and let the world know that there was more to the game than New York and LA.Here’s a few joints from Breed.  May he rest in peace. MC Breed & The DFC Ain’t No Future In Yo Frontin’Supported by “More Bounce to the Ounce” this was Breed’s entry into the major leagues.  Has a bit of that G synthesizer as well.  The OG showcased flow switches on the breaks and solid rhymes for that era.  He also proclaimed he’d paint the Whitehouse black.  At least he lasted till Obama got elected Slum Village Feat MC Breed & Big Herc “It’s On”Just to let you know Breed wasn’t a washed up relic, here he is getting it in with Slum Village putting it down for the D.  This is one of their hardest joints ever and it’s only right that Breed opens this up properly.  He wasn’t nice for his time, he was a credible MC period. MC Eiht & MC Breed “Caps Get Peeled”Gangsta s**t smoothed out with live instruments, a funky bass and the haunting strings.  MC Eiht had a nice run of his own but Breed  bats cleanup on this heater from the west side.  As you can see his versatility was apparent. Jeah!George Clinton Feat. MC Breed & Erick Sermon-“If Anybody Gets Funked Up”President of the P Funk brings it with two of his sons as both E-Doubles (Who both sampled Clinton’s work) hop on a track together.  Yes a lil sappy but it’s cool. Another side of the Breed MC Breed Feat Tupac-“Gotta Get Mine”You already know.Rest in peace big homie.  Hip-Hop will remember you and the Midwest can never repay you. On with the showKEEMO’s BIG CHANCE After  he popped a lot of s**t in the comments of Friday night’s Bump It or Blow It, I challenged AllHipHop user Keemo to hit me with his best song and I’d put it up here for you guys to say whether he had talent or he sucked.  Never let it be said I wasn’t a man of my word.  Here is KEEMO with “They Said.” Poll AnswersYoung Buck Feat. Young Jeezy- “I Got It”You didn’t think Ca$hville’s number one dude would stay off the grid forever did you? Back in effect with Jeezy riding shotgun, it looks like there is a little rust. Gotta be honest , I’m not in love with this song.  It’s been done many times before.  Jeezy is his ordinary self on this and Buck while not lacking, needs something stronger than this to return to the game. Joe Budden Feat. The Game-“The Future”From beef to best buds?  Better that than have them carrying on for eternity like Jay-Z and Jaz-O.  Former antagonists Game and Budden get together for this track.  not as aggressive as I would have hoped but I guess it is what it is.  Not wack but not extraordinary either.  If it was gonna be a club joint then get Akon or something.  For the record, Game “out-presenced” Budden, who was lyrically better on it but neither was lyrically amazing. Chorus sucks ass. Alchemist Feat. Evidence,Blu,& Kid CudiThe intro on this had me feeling that this was gonna be harder than it actually was. It’s an abnormal beat, laid back.  If you’re not paying attention you really can’t tell the emcees apart which isn’t good, but none of them are particularly weak;just not very distinguished. This song needs a smoked out Prodigy on it for some extra Y chromosome. Cool listen though.******************************************** Alternative Break Krista- Temporary InsanityOccasionally I throw up something for a change of pace.  Here’s a bit of some good old fashioned femme angst.  I think they need a stronger rock guitar for the main stanza and a light piano to key in on that emotion but it’s an okay song.  Teen rage is in these days. ********************************************* Busta Rhymes Feat. Barrignton Levy and Kardinal Offishall-“No War”Another anti-war joint this time with Busta Rhymes.  The song starts with Obama giving a speech and i gotta tell you I’m a little Obama’d out right now when it comes to putting his speeches on songs but this is a solid joint. Kardinal is nitro.  It’s a shame he didn’t get more support.Enjoy your Sunday, keep it tight, watch football, love your families. Peace out Brussel Sprouts.************************************************OT Class of 98We’ve been blasting off on the Class of ’88 all year, but ’98 was a pivotal year in Hip-Hop. It was probably the apex as far as good albums selling and probably the beginnig of the true commercial era that we live in now.  Relax and bump this.  Peace.

BREAKING NEWS: MC BREED PASSES AWAY

MC Breed, a legendary Atlanta/Flint, Michigan based rapper, died today (November 22), according to a source with AllHipHop.com.

While details are still being confirmed, several sources told AllHipHop.com that the rapper died early this morning.

“He’s no longer with us,” said a tearful friend, who shall remain anonymous. “We are in the process of putting together a benefit concert, hopefully at Saint Andrews to raise money for a funeral,” the source told AllHipHop.com.

MC Breed, born Eric Breed, was a 15-year-veteran who was born in Flint Michigan.

He worked with a number of rappers, including Too $hort and Tupac Shakur.

On September 5, Breed was admitted to an Atlanta area hospital and placed on life support, after he collapsed when his kidneys failed, during a game of pickup basketball.

His condition began to improve and he was taken off of life support a few days later.

T.I. Testifies In Court Today (Video Included)

Over the course of 30-minutes of testimony, rapper T.I. shared his account of the events that led to the death of his “best and oldest friend” with a Hamilton County, Ohio jury this afternoon (November 21).

The Grammy Award-winning, multi-platinum artist’s demeanor was calm as he spoke on behalf of the prosecution, detailing the club altercation that would end in gunfire on Interstate 75 on May 3, 2006.

He told the packed court room how the two vans in which he and his entourage were travelling came to be sprayed with bullets after being followed by another vehicle.

He went on to describe finding Philant Johnson lying lifeless with blood running down his face from a gunshot wound to the head.

“All of those rounds were fired for me, in my opinion,” a remorseful T.I. told the prosecuting attorney.

Prosecutors accuse Hosea Thomas of shooting Johnson to death during the gun battle.

The shootout stemmed from an altercation in a local club, where T.I. was performing.

A fight broke out when men attempted to enter an area harboring T.I. and his entourage, resulting in Thomas being struck in the head with a bottle.

Prosecutors say Thomas’ brother Padron Thomas was driving the Jeep that chased T.I. and two vans in his entourage along I-75.

Three members of T.I.’s entourage were also injured in the shooout, while Johnson was fatally wounded.

“Before I know it, shots rang out. At that time, we’re calling everybody’s name out to see if everybody was all right,” T.I. testified.

Johnson, who was in front of the rapper, didn’t answer, because he had been shot in the left side of his head.

“[He was] lifeless,” T.I, stated. “I saw blood running down his face. His shirt was wet. He had an entry wound in the temple, left temple.”

Defense attorneys for Hosea claim that his brother is testifying against him in order to receive a reduced sentence.

T.I. also gave the jury insight into the man Philant Johnson was, saying the two had been friends since childhood.

Hosea Thomas is charged with murder, felonious assault and various weapons charges for his role in the shooting.

A verdict in the case against Hosea Thomas is expected sometime next week.

BUMP IT OR BLOW IT: Swagger From Us

You love to hear the story again and again.  Song comes out.  Song catches fire.  A milli a milli remixes come out with both signed and unsigned rappers coming out trying to outdo the original song.

The amateurs needing something you like to trick you into listening to their unfamiliar style and the vets trying to blow the original out of the water for bragging rights.

Earlier this year you had so many versions of “A Milli” they were gonna play it at the inaguration.  Once everybody and they momma hopped on that, it kinda lost steam. Now we have the “Swagger Like Us” epidemic.  The beat was ill, the MIA powered chorus hypnotic and the emcees all had a different swag (I really hate that word).

Not to be outdone, Jay-Z’s biggest fan Jim Jones, who in his own right has, to be fair, gotten a lot of people to have swagger like him, decided to put his flavor on this. Jones doesn’t come alone on this track though (pause for you dipsters).  Weezy does double duty with an appearance, along with Twista & NOE (who has conspicuous swagger like Hov).

Does this have enough oomph to out swagger the original?  Or is it just another item in the Jim Jones vs. Jay-Z hissy fit?  You be the judge.

Ripley’s! Acquires Chocolate M&M Portrait Of Eminem

Ripley’s Believe It or Not! has acquired a portrait of rapper Eminem made completely out of M&M chocolate candies.

Enrique Ramos, who lives in Orlando, Florida and Mexico, created the portrait of Eminem using more than 1,000 individual M&M’s.

Ramos used over 8 pounds of chocolate to create a portrait of the chart-topping rapper, born Marshall Mathers.

The high calorie portrait – which measures at 40 inches x 30 inches – will hang in the halls of one of Ripley’s museums.

“Our customers have a pretty good eye for art. They won’t be disappointed by Eminem in M&M’s,” said Tim O’Brien, VP of Communications for Ripley’s Believe It or Not! “This thing looks good enough to eat.”

Ramos has also crafted other unusual works of art, including a replicate portrait of by Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, which he painted on the back of a cockroach.

Eminem’s M&M portrait will hang along side other oddities in the Ripley’s musuem, including a picture of Princess Diana made from lint, The Supper in burnt toast and Michael Jackson, done completely in gumballs.

Nas, will.I.am, The Roots Record With Nat King Cole

The smooth sound of Nat King Cole will cross paths with Hip-Hop’s edgy vibe via a new tribute album to the pioneering late crooner.

The release, titled Re: Generations, will feature Cole singing alongside entertainers and producers such as Nas, Cee-Lo Green, Brazilian Girls, the Roots, Cut Chemist, Just Blaze, TV On The Radio and will i. am, who joins Natalie Cole for the song “Straighten Up and Fly Right.”

Working with the Black Eyed Peas frontman proved to be a productive experience for the songstress, who expressed her satisfaction with the finished product.

“I just love, love, love the mix that will.i.am put on ‘Straighten Up and Fly Right,’” Natalie Cole told AllHipHop.com in a statement. “It’s so very cool and Dad would get quite the kick from this. What a great feeling it was to have worked with both will and Dad at the same time! It doesn’t get much better and this entire album is so amazing.”

Executive produced by Natalie Cole’s sister Carole, Re: Generations was created as vehicle to “musically and visually bridge the so-called generation gap and hopefully create mutual admiration and respect between teens, parents and grands of every culture.”

With the diverse group of talent working on the album, the King Cole Partners & Productions CEO is convinced her father would’ve appreciated the effort.

“As the curators of our father’s music, image and likeness, my sisters and I strive to keep Dad in the mix and as innovative as he was back in the day,” Carole Cole stated. “We have no doubts that if Nat were here today, he would embrace all of the artists on this record as well as the ones we were unable to get next to. He would want to produce them and encourage them to leave their own indelible mark on the cultural landscape. And as a bona fide music lover, Dad would buy their music and be a loyal fan.”

In addition to the musicians, Re: Generations will involve several visual artists from Los Angeles who will create custom artwork for the Capitol/EMI album using Cole’s music, style and cultural influence as inspiration.

“Creating artwork for this project, Re: Generations, is quite an honor,” said international muralist/graffiti artist Man One, who created an original mural in honor of the project with assistance from two students from The HeArt Project, a local mentoring program.

Other artists contributing Cole-inspired art to Re: Generations include Ritzy Periwinkle, and Gustavo Alberto Garcia Vaca and Cole’s own grandson Sage, who created the album’s cover art.

Musically, the project afforded Cut Chemist the chance to work with someone he described as “an incredible vocalist.”

“Nat King Cole’s voice sounds great with any and every style of music,” the producer said. “I’ve never had this much fun doing a remix before. It was an honor and a pleasure to work with the best.”

Re: Generations is slated to hit stores on March 10, 2009.

The following is a track listing for the forthcoming album:

TODAY’S RUMORS!

THE DAILY TWO CENTS

I have to say something. I have seen a lot of blog and website biting going on. I’ve seen my style get straight stolen and I’ve seen AllHipHop’s stuff get jacked. Step your game up, man. Jeez. If you can’t do any better than stealing people’s ideas, concepts and thoughts, why don’t you just end it once and for all. We are largely pulling from the same “information,” but they there are those that are straight thought robots. Now for today’s BS.

I was going to take off today. It has been a fairly uneventful week as far as rumors are concerned. Then my homey Trav hit me up on twitter and said he would do the rumors for the day. So I did some stuff and he did some stuff. I figured, “Why not?” Shelz has her two cents at the bottom as well. Also, don’t forget to hit up Trav’s site, http://www.mirrorloveprod.com. Mirrorlove Productions is a film/editing company out of Columbus, Ohio. If you need their services, I recommend you do your research and give them a shot, if you like what they offer.

TRAV DAVE’S REPLACEMENT RUMORS

Believe it or not, Eminem has finally become a portrait in good taste.

The rapper has been unwrapped and immortalized in candy M&M’s by artist Enrique Ramos, who transformed 8 pounds of candy (roughly a thousand sweet treats) into a portrait of Marshall Mathers. The Ripley’s Believe It or Not! folks acquired the piece for one of their museums (or possibly one of their afternoon snacks).

What do you think? With this many calories, is it still fair to call him Slim Shady? Sound off with your art critiques in the comments. Just don’t sugarcoat it, OK?

AUBREY TO GET HER OWN SHOW?

If any of you watched “Making the Band 4” season finale, you were probably shocked when P. Diddy kicked off Aubrey O’Day and D. Woods from Danity Kane.

On the show a furious Diddy sat down to discuss rumors of internal tension between the women of Danity Kane, eventually telling Aubrey that she needed to leave the group because she was tarnishing the reputation of the band. He screamed, “I don’t have to communicate s### to you or this group, in fact, I don’t want you in this group!”

The band is now down to two girls; Dawn and Aundrea, who have to drop a new album without the other girls

Hollyscoop caught up with Aubrey O’Day at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion show held at the legendary iconic Fontainebleau Hotel to get the scoop on her future plans sans Danity Kane.

When we asked if she would be back on the show Aubrey said, “You never know maybe ill be back on it. Maybe I will be on my own show.”

We pressed for an official confirmation to which she responded, “Absolutely.” Whether it would be on MTV, Aubrey said, “Possibly, you never know.”

We’re assuming Aubrey is going to have her own show on MTV, produced by P. Diddy, which will chronicle her life after Danity Kane as she tries to get a solo career going–it’s reality television after all!

ILLSEED QUICKIES

Shout out to Secretary of State … Hillary Clinton. (she has yet to accept, but I am sure she will.)

I told you this about a week ago. Do you read my stuff or what? Jim Jones is no longer using the N-Word. He has replaced the N-Word with “Obama.” As is, “What up, my Obama!”

Oprah is going to be doing it way big for Barack. Big O is looking to reserve the Kennedy Center and several ballrooms for a giant celebration.

Malcolm X’s family is not happy with Al-Qaeda. They didn’t appreciate the use of Brother Malcolm’s name in the diss to Barack Obama. They told Larry King that Malcolm would have supported the 44th President.

About 1000 Black people rallied in front of the White House…for Obama to stop the AIDS epidemic. People, he’s not in office yet (or moved into Washington) and he cannot turn water to wine. Be patient.

I told you this was coming. Remy Ma is looking to get out of jail. Now, I know Papoose is the real winner here. He’s gotta be praying on it!  Click here.

Kenny Latimore and Chante Moore are getting separated. I thought they were going to be the new Ashford and Simpson – minus the hair and hits.

T-Pain seems to thing he should get royalties for anybody using the vocoder/autotune. Right, and Das EFX needs to be paid for all the people that used “iggity” in the 90s.

Damn Jay and B. Beyonce and Jay-Z are the richest Hollywood couple, according Forbes Magazine. In a year’s span, they made $162 million (June 1st 2007 – June 1st 2008). Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith were No. 2 earning $85 million (Jada gotta step up her bars – kidding). Now the question is: how are Jay and B considered a “Hollywood couple?”

NBC is reportedly making a Black version of “Friends.” I wonder if this is because the real “Friends” only had one Black person appear on it. Shout out to Aisha Tyler.

EPIC FAIL: DICK CHENEY INDICTED!

I know Bush is looking to get his pardon on. I know Cheney is mobbed up and caked up…but…this is nice to see.

KILL BILL O’REILLY?

Whew..these rappers really went in on Bill O’Reilly. I can’t co-sign murdering Billy Boy. But the song is thought provoking. I heard the first rapper is related to John Cena.

JAZO POPS MORE STUFF AT JAY-Z

Where is the song? The name of the song is called “Return of the King.” The camera man needs to be banished from talking!

If you don’t know what Jazo is so mad about, listen to Jay’s verse on “We Do It For Hip-Hop.”

THEY ARE DISSING SOULJA BOY

There is a video for the”Bird Walk” – a diss video! Check it out and let me know what you think. Here is the text to go with it:

“F**K SOULJA BOY…BIRKWALK WAS ORIGINALLY MADE BY S.O.L.O da POPE…AND SOULJA BOY TOOK HIS S**T…THIS VIDEO WAS MADE IN OCTOBER 2007.”

IN DEFENSE OF SOULJA BOY

I don’t know anything about these dag on dances and I don’t have time to investigate a dance. So, I wanted to print this letter from a reader that disagrees with the assertion that Soulja Boy stole it.

Greetings Illseed,

I must start off by sayin I am on the site daily, several times for updates and the Rumors section is my one of my favs! Now as I’m scrollin today I see the comments about the Birdwalk dance and references to the Down The Way. I’m always excited to see a mention of Cincinnati but this one gave me the bitter beer face!! The Birdwalk dance is nothing like the DTW!!! One is a step and the other more of a freestyle dance. The DTW has basic foot movements with heavy arm freesyles that vary by dancer and hood. People from here know it when they see it!!! The Birdwalk is more of a step, or shall I say line dance. Now there were a couple of guys from Downtown Cincy (hence the name) that were on 106 and Park doin it back when AJ and Free had the show. Find that footage and u can see for yourself. I personally can’t see how Nasashia even got upset because they are so totally different!! The BW is so stiff, the DTW is more fluid and mixed wit personal swag!!!!! Now about Tocka making up the dance…I don’t believe that to be true but I can’t say for absolute certain. But I will say this, the dance was around long before the song. And the dance was started Downtown or Down the Way as we call it…..Tocka is from Millvale, which is a hood on the Westside of town. Well I said my peace so until next time……. Sunni
