DL Breaks the News: CNN Drops The Ball

In this time of blue and red swing states, we have come to think of everything in opposing sides, generally dismissing the shades of gray (or in this case purple as it were). The news media it seems, is no different. Right leaning Fox mans the blue, while red-clad CNN tends to lean left, although both would say they are fair and balanced.**To clarify, i’m refering to their color schemes, not their political slant**With a credible Black candidate running for President of the United States, we have slowly watched CNN bolster the number of anchors and experts of color.  We’ve seen Soledad O’ Brien taking a larger role, Roland Martin deliver intelligent journalism, and more than a few intelligent Black talking heads with balanced delivery, not Braxton from the Jamie Foxx show, but nowhere near the Flavor Flav end of the spectrum.  We’ve even seen CNN attempt an ambitious, albeit in the eyes of some insufficient, series Black In America. While not perfect, I don’t believe you could argue that it wasn’t an earnest attempt at creating a fair discussion. In the wake of this, I had the opportunity last night, to check out another landmark for Black America proffered by CNN: D.L. Hughley Breaks the News.   It would seem a wonderful opportunity to see a fairly normative view of politics and socio-economic events and news that would probably draw in the common young viewers who may be generally disinterested or unable to follow urbane concepts or more sophisticated delivery of traditional older themed CNN programming.  It could have been a real opportunity to inform a segment of the population that desperately needs to know what’s going on in this world.Unfortunately, they blew it.  Big time.  I sat in the audience while they sent out a comedian to pump up the crowd, which is not unusual for a live audience, to keep the energy up.  The audience itself was arranged to present a wide array of diversity and it was certainly a crowd of all races genders, ages, etc.. True Rainbow style.  The comedian chose to give weak assed formulaic Def Jam from 1992 “Black people don’t do ______ we do this” jokes.  Not very funny but hey it wasn’t the show.  However it proved to be an ominous sign of the next 2 hours to come. The show opens with a monologue that obviously was written by people who weren’t Hughley’s writers. It was awkward (we had to re-shoot the opening because it really was that unnatural) and full of “Black” jokes referring to cholesterol, chicken wings, and “jambalaya juice vs Jamba juice.” And the whole Black vs White comedy paradigm that doomed Comic View to oblivion. The amount of black president jokes were enormous and included a tapdancing Sammy Davis Jr. as a child in a clip from an old movie, and an old black and white clip featuring a depiction of a hucklebucking Black president (complete with mention of pork chops).  It was insulting and beneath a comic of Hughley’s stature and in the audience we could all feel how unnatural it was. There were a few Chappelle Show-style skits with DL at a Palin rally which also felt deliberate and derivative, and a split-screen with three CNN foreign correspondents that was incredibly stiff and a waste of time, even after multiple takes. The icing on the cake came when three members of the production crew put on DL wigs in a homage to some baseball team who all got their hair cut into Mohawks to bond with one of their teammates but it reeked less of laughing with you and more like laughing at you. There were a couple of good moments, such as the appearance of CNN’s financial correspondent, Ali Velshi who made the situation more natural and put DL in a more comfortable frame with back and forth banter.  You could tell that Ali’s experience calmed DL down and made that particular segment more comfortable. There was also the first time endorsement of Barack Obama by former Bush Press Secretary Scott McClellan.  It was a big moment for a new show but even that was low graded with “snitch talk.”At the end of the taping, Hughley admitted that the show was put together in a short amount of time, and that he had met his writers  only two days prior.  Hopefully they will form a better chemistry and remove some of the shtick, because they have a wonderful opportunity to bring in new viewers and educate them and build a viewer for future times.  Or they can continue to shuck and jive and have this show be the political version of the Magic Hour.At the heart of this is not the show, but the overall landscape of the presentation of Black people in media, much of which contributes to the attitudes of the Palin rally people and how they feel about Black people.  The lack of balance in presenting intelligent Black commentary is horribly apparent, and CNN, if it truly wants to be a leader in this field, should use this opportunity to really set the bar…at least until we ourselves get off our a#### and do a little bar raising of our own.

The Last Word: Lyfe Jennings Locked Up, Beyonce Introduces Sasha Fierce, Ne-Yo Interviews in the Nude, and T-Pain Discusses the “Flying Sausage”

Greetings Last Word crew! I’ll be taking on the Last Word for this

week, as Chris Richburg is under the weather. This week proved to be

interesting with Toni Braxton getting the boot from Dancing With the Stars,

Lil Wayne getting the big win at the BET Hip-Hop Awards plus becoming a dad again and Obama moving up

and up and up the Presidential ladder. Super get well wishes go out to

Mr. Richburg and a big ups to his sounding boards for always holding him down.

And now I present to you…the Last Word for week ending October 24th.WTF Lyfe Jennings…In Jail Again?Somebody needs to call the “Cops Up” on his ass. Apparently the crooner was arrested in Smyrna, Georgia for shooting a concealed weapon and then getting involved in a high speed car chase shortly thereafter. Is he OJ now? I wish they would’ve televised that. It might’ve helped his album sales…oops!Read the news story here. Don Cornelius Arrested on Suspicion of Domestic ViolenceSo Don Cornelius was arrested on Saturday, October 18th in Hollywood Hills after someone reported a domestic dispute. The 72-year-old former Soul Train host was released on $50,000 bail and slapped with a court appearance next month, according to CNN.com. Why is someone that old beating on his wife? If he ends up in jail, he should take advantage of it and host Cell Train. Nevermind, we watched that dance already…it was called every scene in Oz with Adebisi.Chuuuuuuch!Amy Winehouse Has a Black BoyfriendWasn’t she racist like last week? Well apparently Amy Winehouse has a man now who is um, non-white. She was seen hopping in a car with the new guy this past week. Photos are circulating around the web (none that aren’t watermarked, but go check for them) of her with one sweatpant leg up and one down (are you LL Cool J now, Amy?) and her man giving a “leave us alone” look to the paparazzi. Let’s revisit Amy’s shining moment pushing the importance of equality:Okay, so maybe not. Either way, I wonder how this new dude will affect her relationship with “Blakey.” Remember her Grammy speech? If not…I hope she’s happy. Fellas, would you date her?Pretty Lady!Beyonce Reveals Album Title, Donates $100k to CharityMrs. Carter will release her new album on November 18th. The title? I Am…Sasha Fierce. The album will have two covers – “like a magazine would have two covers,” Beyonce explained. The first cover is I Am…and the second is…Sasha Fierce. The first half represents the “underneath it all” Beyonce and the second half represents the fun side of Beyonce. Why is it that I feel like we only meet Sasha Fierce on stage? Either way, the album will include her singles “Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)” and that Ciara jacked ballad “If I Were a Boy.” I’m looking forward to this album, are you? Also in the midst of album prep, Bey donated $100k to a Texan Hurricane Ike Relief Fund, providing aid to those who lost their homes and properties to the disastrous hurricane. Just for that I hope her album sells twice as much as it was supposed to. Go Beyonce!Ne-Yo Conducts an Interview…in the NudeEw ew ew. Okay first of all, Ne-Yo is a good looking dude. However...there is no need to inform your interviewer that you’re sitting in your bed naked during a phone interview. Popjustice.com reveals in an interview with Ne-Yo that during the discussion, Ne-Yo was up in his bed with no clothes on chatting away. Read the Popjustice transcript:Where are you at the moment, Ne-Yo?

I’m lying in bed. It’s a very rare occasion for me to have a lie-in so I’m enjoying it while I can.

Are you wearing a hat at the moment?

No – there are a few places that I don’t wear a hat. Like in the

shower – that would just be stupid. And I don’t wear them on airplanes.

Have you got any clothes on at all?

No.

Okay that’s cool, I’m sure people on the phone do much worse while on the phone. But really, Ne-Yo? Lie. My biggest question is…was the interviewer a guy or a girl? The site didn’t specify. Tee hee. Haaaaaaaaaaay!Jennifer Hudson Puts Her Focus Back On SingingIt’s about time. After her self-titled debut did relatively well, Hudson revealed in an interview with CNN.com that she was going to put film on the side for her music. “The pressure is more on the music side than on the film side,” Hudson states. As she plans a tour and continues her strange engagement to “Punk” from I Love New York, it’ll be all music all day for the young soulster. That’s good, we like how she sings. Right?T-Pain and His Wife Throw Flying Sausages at Strip ClubsIn an interview with AllHipHop Alternatives, T-Pain reveals that not only do he and his wife visit strip clubs together, they engage in “flying sausaging” – AHHA: Flying sausaging? T-Pain: [chuckles] That’s right, y’all are from New York.AHHA: Um, can you explain what that means?T-Pain: It’s a down south thing. You know how dudes make it rain? It’s making it rain, but all that money, you ball it up with a rubber band and throw it at one person.AHHA: Ohhhhh, okay.T-Pain: You don’t hit her in the face or nothing. When she’s bent over, you just try to aim it right. It hurts so bad too.Be on the lookout for the full T-Pain feature next week, and strippers, beware of the flying sausage from either Teddy P. or his wife.will.i.am Won’t Be Too Mad If McCain Becomes PresidentBlack Eyed Peas’ lead guy/only really talented person in the group will.i.am told E! online that he won’t be scooting off to Canada if McCain wins the Presidency. “Whether Obama’s president or McCain’s president, it’s still important

for people to be just as passionate and just as involved in moving and

shaping their communities,”will.i.am told E! “I’m going to do that regardless of who is president.

You don’t just bail the f–k out.” Okay yeah cool, you’re not skipping town or anything, but please don’t wish the bad on us. Then again, anyone who lets Fergie into their group probably doesn’t mind a McCan’t for President. Wamp Wamp.Alicia Keys to Perform At the American Music AwardsAlicia Keys is finally back in the news for her music and not destroying Mashonda’s life. The superstar will be performing at the American Music Awards, taping next month. Leeshy also leads the trophy rat race with five award nominations. Kanye and his Auto-Tune are scheduled to appear too. Oh and speaking of that guy, am I the only one who likes “Heartless”? I don’t care, listen to it and love it:HEARTLESS – KANYE WESTThat’s all for this week, people! Until next week, watch out for Jazmine Sullivan. She’s bustin’ out windows in her new video, and rumor has it she carries a crowbar on stage:Bust Your Windows – Jazmine Sullivan

Pastor Troy Returns With New Album ‘Troy’

Atlanta rapper Pastor Troy is gearing up for the release of his first major independent release since his departure from Universal Records in 2004.

The new full length album, simply titled Troy, will be released November 18 via Troy’s own label Madd Society Records.

It will be distributed by Memphis-based indie distribution powerhouse Select-O-Hits.

Troy conceptually pays homage to ancient Greece, with even the album cover reflective of the theme.

“When you hear it, it really just puts you in the [mindset that] it’s time for war, man, it’s time for battle,” Pastory Troy told AllHipHop.com. “It takes you straight to the Coliseum.”

To achieve a more diverse sound than on previous projects, Troy says he recruited several producers including Drumma Boy, Fatboy and legendary Memphis producer DJ Squeaky, who also serves as the album’s executive producer.

Fans may be surprised to find the album free of any featured artists, however.

“To make my date, I couldn’t wait for everybody to bring their features in,” explained the Georgia-native who debuted in the late 90’s with the regional hit single “No Mo Play In GA.”

A deluxe edition of Troy will be released in time for the holidays, featuring the originally intended collaborations.

Juelz Santana: Dippin’ On The Set, Pt. 2

Juelz Santana goes in on Cam’Ron making like Houdini, finally releasing I Can’t Feel My Face with Lil Wayne, and winning over the haters, amongst other things—pause.  [Part 1 right here]AllHipHop.com: Speaking of family, you began your career as part of one of the most powerful movements in Hip-Hop, the Diplomats…Juelz Santana: I am the Diplomats movement. I ain’t parts of it I am it. AllHipHop.com: Well, to be fair, that’s the way it seems since you and Jim are the only ones still repping for the Dips.Juelz: That’s what I want all the fans to know, that’s what we’re doing. Bottom line is, there’s a thin line between loyalty and stupidity. N****s tried to make the situation work the best way possible. It just got to a point where I couldn’t. Like I told people, I got to a point where I got tired of being taken advantage of. I felt like I wasn’t getting my just due for the work I was putting in. It wasn’t like I was asking for back credit or back money which was there but that’s nothing to me. The whole point was about moving on and it just didn’t happen and not because of me. I been blessed to see all the things I’ve seen so early. I’m still young. But I want the fans to know what we’re doing. Like, what if we would’ve just sat back and waited for Cam to sit there and decided to do what he wanted to do? Nobody really even heard from Cam in a minute so where would we be? Then how would our Dipset fans be looking at us like, “Where y’all at?” I know what it is when you’re a fan and you’re used to seeing something so together. They forget about everything that comes with it and they just want to see you together. They don’t understand that it’s about more than that. They just like, “Yo, why we not seeing y’all together, where the f**k y’all at?” This n***a could’ve just slapped your mother but they just want to see us together. This s**t is life, this s**t is real. But you’re right, me and Jim been flying the bird. We in the sky, fly up or get flown over. We got to fly until whatever happens, happens. Cam’Ron f/ Juelz Santana “Hey Ma” VideoAllHipHop.com: How was it for you going through the situation of being signed to Cam’Ron’s label and not releasing any music while still trying to keep your fan base? Juelz: I’m glad you said that too because everybody been like, “Just as much as I’m a Diplomats fan…” like what about all the people I didn’t get to deliver music to, due to my situation? A lot of features I was on, a whole lot of songs couldn’t go through. Even people when they interview me now they say, “You were in that same lane that Wayne was in. You were right there.”  It wasn’t due to me, it was due to the situation. That’s what that was really about and it was kind of f**ked up. One good thing about me was that I had the type of resume, and I put in the type of ground work when I first came out [where] I wasn’t a n***a that was built on one record. I was good, my name is good out there. N****s is still expecting Juelz and wanting to know where I’ve been. I’m getting shows like I just put out an album. I’m on bills with n****s that just put albums out and I ain’t had an album out in a while. That’s thanks to the fans and that ground work. That’s the same ground work I’m trying to do with the Skull Gang. It’s not just one record. N****s want to have a following. Diplomats [Cam’Ron & Juelz Santana] “Dipset Anthem” VideoAllHipHop.com: Speaking of keeping fans waiting, people have been waiting for that I Can’t Feel My Face since it was mentioned. What’s your current relationship with Wayne and will that project ever see the light of day?   Juelz: That was another thing that was due to the politics. I didn’t get to be involved the way I needed to be involved or handle things a certain way. Now that I’m out of my deal I haven’t really inquired as much since I been out. I been worried about doing a lot of things with this Skull Gang project and Weezy has been on the road. But the good thing that I like to tell people is the album is done. We recorded all the records. I probably got like 40 records sitting on the computer right now. Once I can go in the office and really sit down and talk to him, which will probably be this weekend [BET Awards Weekend]. I haven’t seen him in a good minute. It’s been about a good month or month and a half but the relationship is still there. That’s my brother. The week he did a million…I think the day before. You usually know the day before what the numbers are pretty much. Even if the number’s 100,000 off. Like if they would’ve told him 900,000 and he did a million that was still crazy. But, to make a long story short, I sent him a record the night before that and he sent it back to me the next day, the day he did the million copies, ya dig what I’m saying? The love is still there. That’s pretty much going to come out once we go back in the office and start talking. I can talk for myself now, I can have my lawyers go in and speak for me on my behalf and not worry about people asking for things. I mean everybody got to compromise and sometimes you got somebody that’s not willing to compromise and make everything work. I just knew how big the album was going to be. To me it really wasn’t about the proceeds. That was just something I wanted to do for the fans. But when there’s labels involved everybody wants their cut. But now I’m going to holla at Wayne. When I seen him we’re going to have a long talk and we’re going to get it right. But it’s done though. The album is done, it’s still coming so look out for I Can’t Feel My Face, ya dig?AllHipHop.com: There is a noticeable difference between how Wayne was before he started hanging with the Dips and after. When people talk about his charisma and swag do you feel some of that is owed to the time he spent around you? Juelz: Nah. That’s my n****a. I don’t look at it like that because that’s like trying to say he took that from us. We were together. It’s love. I really don’t know how to explain that.

Juelz Santana & Lil Wayne “Get At These N****s”

AllHipHop.com: I’m not trying to start nothing but it’s clear he has a little sprinkle of Harlem to him. Juelz: Everybody should get a sprinkle of Harlem. Harlem is that place. I’m sure he wouldn’t even mind. Harlem is that place. I really don’t know how to explain it but its love. That’s my dude for real.AllHipHop.com: You’re a solo artist, a leader of a group, and an executive; how do you make everything work and keep it all going?  Juelz: Just taking everything that I’ve learned. I’ve been around some s**t, I been around a lot of people and I’ve seen a lot. I take everything I’ve learned and just try to be the right person. At the end of the day it’s not about me, it’s about knowing what’s right and what’s wrong. A lot of people just do s**t for their benefit. I’m trying to be a person about what’s right and what’s wrong. That’s what this whole thing is based on. Handling the business is definitely me. I’m becoming more of a businessman because I have to take these steps. I feel like I’ve learned so much being in this business that it’s not that hard for me to jump in these steps. Now it’s just about executing all the plans and getting s**t done the way I need it to get done. I know what these major labels are not doing for these new artists and why they’re not winning. Me coming in the game knowing the things I know is going to make my team stronger than these other dudes. All these dudes out there are just rushing to get signed and let the labels do everything. That’s not the way to do it because labels really don’t know what to do. They’re lost right now. They’re waiting on artists to do half the stuff and they just want to pick it up when the ball is rolling. A lot of artists don’t know that. One record ain’t the ball rolling. Nobody knows who you are with one record. People might hear it and be like, “Oh, who sings that record?” But once you really get outside your town, you know, really get out and start going places…I’m trying to brand us in the way I feel like it’s going to be the right way and it’s going to be monumental to the movement. I feel like people are going to be able to respect it. People are going to grow to love us. We’re going to transform n***s. N****s that don’t really f**k with us, I know how that goes. A n***a could not really f**k with you today, but you’ll do something they’ll like and they’ll f**k with you tomorrow. That’s all it’s about. We’re doing transformations. You got to respect a hustler. I know if I ain’t have no types of talent but I was hustling hard and busting my ass in the studio, even if I’m spitting some bulls**t, at least you’ll respect my grind. At least respect my grind. So I can’t knock a n***a grind but I will tell you your s**t wack. [laughs]

“I’m Dipset, Cam is Cam. Me and Cam couldn’t do business no more. Those are totally different things. I don’t want people to get that confused. Before I came along there was no Dipset. There was Cam’ron. That’s who you knew. Then that’s when we branded it; me, Jim, Zeke, we all are Dipset. Dipset is not just one person.”

Juelz Santana f/ Cam’Ron “Dipset (Santana’s Town)”AllHipHop.com: Coming from a powerful movement such as Dipset, do you feel any pressure to meet or surpass that success with Skull Gang?  Juelz: I always look to do better than what I’ve done, even for myself. It’s not really an expectation but a need to do better. I strive to be better. Everyday should be a better day and you should work to make better days than what you had before. You should always work on whatever you do going forward, not going backward. I want my Skull Gang to be, if anything, 10 times better than what Dipset was, but I still represent Dipset. This ain’t going nowhere from me. [points to Dipset tattoo on forearm] This is a part of me. AllHipHop.com: So there’s hope for another Diplomats album? Juelz: Hopefully. I don’t mind doing a Dipset album. I think the fans deserve a Dipset album. I’m always willing and now I’m in a position where I can do my business the way it needs to be done. I don’t mind doing a Diplomat album. I’m not the one who would hold that back. Whenever the situation presents itself I’m ready to rock out but right now, it’s a Skull Gang takeover. When you see me I represent Dipset. That ain’t going nowhere. Even though me and Cam couldn’t do business together it’s not like I left Dipset. I’m Dipset, Cam is Cam. Me and Cam couldn’t do business no more. Those are totally different things. I don’t want people to get that confused. Before I came along there was no Dipset. There was Cam’ron. That’s who you knew. Then that’s when we branded it; me, Jim, Zeke, we all are Dipset. Dipset is not just one person. AllHipHop.com: What’s good with your solo album? Juelz: My solo album is titled Born to Lose, Built to Win. I’m looking to drop that top of next year. My mixtape is going to be called The Reagan Era. I’m looking to drop that like the end of November or December. That’s the solo mixtape. It’s crazy. That’s for all the fans, all my people. A lot of people heard Skull Gang and they were like where’s your mixtape? I’m like this is my mixtape. I need for people to know that these are not just artists I’m pushing. It’s the same thing when you hear 50 on a G-Unit mixtape. When he was giving you that it wasn’t a 50 mixtape and a G-Unit mixtape. That was all one and that’s what I’m trying to let people know. This is my movement and this is who I’m moving with, we front lining. The reason for The Regan Era is I know they been waiting for that too. And plus I had a lot of music that’s been done for that particular event that I’m just going to release out. Skull Gang will be featured on the mixtape heavy. It’s all about branding the movement then carrying on to that Born to Lose, Built to Win. They want to do the Skull Gang album in December. I’m still in negotiations with them. The mixtape is doing so well so I need to figure out a couple things but we’re going to be promoting that heavy so be on the look out for that Skull Gang album whether it does come before my album or after my album. Definitely look out for that Skull Gang album because we’re on n****s ass real heavy right now. Juelz Santana “Clockwork” VideoAllHipHop.com: Just to be clear, was the situation in London resolved?  Juelz: Ain’t nothing changed man. People use the Internet for attention. I never been a person to feed into what people do on the Internet. I know n****s is fake. Half that s**t is fake. N****s ain’t doing nothing, nothing’s going on. When it was time to deal with the situation in London, we dealt with our situation. Bottom line. N****s just get on the Internet and talk. When we see them it’s never anything. They just talk because they got mouths sometimes. The cameras have n****s going crazy but I never really entertained that part. Shout out to my dudes in London. I can’t wait to go back out there and really get to do my first show the proper way without all the bulls**t that was involved. AllHipHop.com: As you prepare to march forward to build this new movement of yours I know you must have a vision of where you want to see it end?  Juelz: I think we’re going to be sitting here the same way. The only difference is we’re going to be sitting here eating lobsters and s**t but it’s going to be the same type of love. Hopefully we’ll have just as many solo albums as we do Skull Gang albums. The energy will just carry on. S**t I want to see Skull Gang-Kids. I want this s**t to be like a cult. The energy is good. Everybody is learning more and more as the days go by. Just as much as it is about learning each other, it’s about learning the game. I can’t do everything, he can’t do everything, nobody in here can do everything. But all of us can do enough to where it adds up to everything. Like when you ask about us doing it bigger than the Dips, we plan on doing it bigger than everybody. We plan on doing it bigger than anybody whose ever done it. We got the chance to so why not? Only we can stop what we can do. Other than that, sky’s the limit.

Both of these ladies are purportedly, reportedly and supposedly Lil’ Wayne’s child’s mother. Now, inititally, we heard that the female was a college student and a good gal. And then we heard some other stuff. More to come, but here are the pictures.

DONDA WEST HEARD HER SON…

WENN is reporting that “Hey Mama” was the last song that Kanye’s mother heard prior to dying. Jean Roberson, mother of Donda West, has made this claim in a recent interview. In an interview with “Access Hollywood,” Jean says, “I put the phone to her ear and said, ‘Donda, listen…Wake up, listen. Kanye’s singing to you.’” Apparently, the song revived her temporarily, but she passed away the next evening. R.I.P. to Dr. West.

EDDIE MURPHY RECYCLES NOTHING?

With everybody getting on this “green” kick, You would think that Eddie Murphy would join in the love fest. NOT! Peep what gossip maven Janet Charlton said:

We ran into some talkative Teamsters this week who work for the studios and the subject of Eddie Murphy came up. They agreed that he is probably the most demanding and arrogant celebrity they ever worked with. Eddie doesn’t believe in recycling. Every morning when he’s shooting a movie he demands a new set of special underwear and socks with the TAGS still attached. He puts it on, and at the end of the day THROWS IT AWAY. (Nothing is washed and re-used.) His motor home is stocked with toiletries like mouthwash and toothpaste and beverages, etc. EVERYTHING that has been opened is THROWN AWAY at the end of the day. He won’t use an opened bottle of mouthwash! Is he afraid someone will try to poison him or is he just power-mad? Can someone explain this insanity?

Here is the explanation: HE CAN.

SIGNS THE WORLD IS COMING TO AN ENDUPDATE: You know something is fishy when FOX is countering something that could mess up Barack Obama. Peep the update from Fox News on this farce!“Several inconsistencies” have emerged in the statements made by a John McCain volunteer who claims she was robbed at knife

point in Pittsburgh by an attacker who cut a “B” into her face after noticing a McCain bumper sticker on her car.Pittsburgh

police spokeswoman Diane Richard told FOXNews.com on Friday that Ashley Todd, 20, says she was groped by a robber and lost

consciousness during Wednesday’s alleged assault at an ATM. She didn’t initially report those details, Richard said. As

for the wound on her cheek, “it’s very shallow, it’s more of a scratch,” Richard said. Now, read the early reports, which probably don’t mean a thing. And to think, this person volunteered for McCain in the official office. SMH.

You know ignorance and insanity don’t know any political affiliation. We know that most foolishness is coming from supporters of John McCain, but every now and then a Barack supporter acts like an idiot.

In Pittsburgh, a 20-year-old woman was robbed by a nut that decided to make a political statement for Mr. Obama. He robbed the woman of a mere $60 with a knife. Dude robbed her and then saw that she had a McCain/Palin bumper sticker on her car. Homey got some enraged that she was a support of Ol’ Dinosaur arms that he did the unthinkable. He carved a “B” (for Barack) right after he punched and kicked the victim.

The Obama-Biden campaign released the following statement: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the young woman for her to make a speedy recovery, and we hope that the person who perpetrated this crime is swiftly apprehended and brought to justice.”

Hip-Hop Rumors: Why Katt Is Out of The Awards! “A Milli Beef” Lyfe’s Restraining Order!

Hip-Hop Rumors: Lil Wayne’s Baby Mom Revealed! Gay Rapper Reality Show! Lil Kim Fires Back! Rick Ross’ Dead Homey Update. Epic Fail and S.T.W.I.C.T.A.E.WHY KATT WILLIAMS ISN’T HOSTING

The NY Daily News has gotten to the bottom of this BET / Katt Williams mess. There was no stupid breakdancing contest. They are saying he spazzed out on the stage and bounced. Nobody is on the record with this but he had a face-to-face confrontation with BET bosses and he opted out. Here is what the sources are saying:

“Katt has become difficult now that he’s a megastar,” one source tells us. “He was very demanding during rehearsals. He really berated one female member of the production company. He launched into a verbal assault on her in front of other people. I mean, he read her the riot act.

“Then he left the set and said he wouldn’t return unless she apologized. She wouldn’t. BET and the production company backed her up. Katt wouldn’t come back. Nobody was willing to budge.

“So the night before the show, they had no host. They were scrambling to find somebody. At 1 a.m., the night before the show, they called T-Pain. He agreed to do it, and started rehearsing the next morning for the show that evening.”

Now, BET is sticking to that foolish breakdancing story, but we all know better. I heard that Katt is really p##### at T-Pain for taking the gig in his place. I don’t know if they are friends or not, but that’s what I heard. Maybe he is mad that T-Pain probably lied about bussing Katt’s a** in breakin’ and poppin’…

“Folks have underestimated me for years. In rapping, in singing … and now in break dancing!”

RIGHT!

WHO REALLY PRODUCED LIL WAYNE’S “A MILLI”

There is a producer by the name of Cha-Lo and his claim to fame should be Lil’ Wayne’s “A Milli,” he says. Cha-Lo is one of the co-producers of the song, but you don’t really hear his name mentioned too much, if ever. Well he did the record with Bangladesh and I’m hearing Cha-Lo is really not happy that he isn’t getting credit for the record. From what I understand, and I could be wrong, but he gave all rights to the song to Bangladesh. Now that the song is up for numerous accolades, he wants to share in the joy! Bangladesh did change up the drums significantly, but the repetitive “Amilli” is still there. I think this is clearly a co-production. I hope the check cleared! Anyway, I heard he’s produced for Oprah and this record is the first rap song for him. Interesting. More on this in a few…

LYFE’S BABY MOMS FILES RESTRAINING ORDER

Man.

I wonder did Lyfe call himself that because he wanted to live or that it would turn into some sad twist of irony. Lyfe’s criminal past has been well documented in music and the press, but we thought those days were over. We still don’t fully know what’s up, but the fact is, he could be looking at jail time! I don’t know about LIFE though.

OH…well here is the factual rumor. His child’s mother has filed for a Restraining Order of Protection against the R&B singer. I cant even fathom this drama. Call me corny, but I don’t want it. I’ll take a different type of Drama…Lady Drama! LMAO! Peep the order of protection, courtesy of Stylerazzi.

I know you have seen it, but peep this mug.

Here is the order…smh.

PALIN IN 2012!

This may not be the last time you hear from Sarah Palin, assuming she and running buddy McCain lose in November. Republicans are secretly ‘considering’ Palin as the presidential forerunner in the 2012 presidential race. A lot of them have already written this election off and are looking for some payback in 2012. Now, I will be the first one to admit that I don’t know any conservatives like that. They mostly don’t like Palin and blame her for McCain’s rapid descent. Nevertheless, she is so hot that you have to love her. You probably love her more if you want Alaska to be a new nation or are a sucker for a wink.

LADY DRAMA…IS BACK.

Master P Shares the Wealth… All you need is 500 and a computer!

I know it sounds pretty suspect but Master P has launched a new internet based business called yourinvestmenttravel.com which is a marketing site to guide people who want to become wealthy like Master P. Sounds almost to good to be true? Well it is! seems to me like Master P has decided to hop on the internet work from home scam bandwagon! In order to become apart of the network one must pay 500 bucks to get trained and then sell vacation packages to people. The site is offering individuals the opportunity to run and sell their own travel agency via online for a low monthly rate of 19.99 and a one time flat fee 199.00! I would normally be down for a good cause to help others get ahead but this just seems like another way to bring me down! I’m better off with my own get rich scheme a bundle of 500 blank CDs and my own computer (wink, wink)

Diddy Talks Enyce…

Diddy has released a new video discussing his current purchase of the Enyce Clothing brand:

We will have to see how this plays out… But if me and Puff were cut from the same cloth wouldn’t I have a private jet and a bunch of people on my beck and call? Speaking of Diddy he has a new line of tees out called diddy-ism tees which include the bitchassness tees and the newest edition I am the Black American Dream tee which is retailing for $36… I don’t know about yall but 36 bucks for a tee shirt aint my idea of an American Dream!

T.I.s Rag gets Rung by Gucci and LV!

T.I.s new video for Swing Your Rag has been put on hold due to orders from Gucci and Louis Vuitton, who claim that they aren’t happy with the lyrics in the song. The chorus of the song does mention both fashion empires by stating:

“Alright, okay, I don’t dance, no way

I just take my Louis rag out and wave it round in the air

Take my Gucci rag out and wave it round in the air”

While some of us don’t find this too offensive LV and Gucci do. Which goes to show no matter how much you spend they still look at you as a _______! Moving along TI had this to say during an MTV interview “Louis [Vuitton] and Gucci started trippin’ about it. They were saying we were infringing, in one way or another. They weren’t happy about it. They didn’t want it to come out. But it’s hot, though.” To replace this video TI has released the video for Live Your Life. [Illseed note. Perhaps these high-end brands have an issue with their product being called a damn RAG! Smarten up people!]

TRACKING SHOTS: Freddie Foxxx

There is no need to fear Freddie Foxxx. The MCs rep as an individual not to be crossed is legit, but don’t let the sizeable stature, gruff rhymes and machismo make you neglect the fact that he places a premium on loyalty, possesses an encyclopedic knowledge of Hip-Hop and sports a keen intellect. Also known as Bumpy Knuckles, he recently released Crazy Like a Foxxx, a previously shelved album from 1994 which includes his collaboration with Tupac Shakur [“Killa”], on Fat Beats Records. Bumpy is still tweaking Amerikkan Blackman, the final album in the trilogy started with 2000’s Industry Shakedown and 2003’s The Konexion. “I got all the material, now I gotta build a building,” says Foxxx who cites a murderers row of production contributors [DJ Scratch, Clark Kent, Alchemist, Kev Brown, Pete Rock, et. al] to the album. Amerikkan Blackman won’t appear until 2009, so for now, as part of AllHipHop’s inaugural “Tracking Shots” column, we played Bumpy some records—strictly vinyl—and asked him to comment. History lesson starts now. The Flavor Unit “Roll Wit Tha Flava” Flavor Unit/EpicAllHipHop.com: How did you connect with Queen Latifah’s Flavor Unit?Freddie Foxxx: When I did “Hot Potato” with Naughty By Nature it kinda put me on a platform. I was getting a lot of comments—especially from Shakim [Compere]—telling me he was playing “Hot Potato” for a lot of people and they kept talking about my verses on there and how strong they were and how they matched with Treach real good. Lyrically Treach was top of the pile; no one was really messing with Treach lyrically and when I did the song with him they saw that there was a good match there. So that’s what got me the deal actually.AllHipHop.com: How did you get Naughty by Nature’s song in the first place?Freddie Foxxx: Nikki D had a party, she was like the first female signed to Def Jam or something like that and I was at that party and I think it was an argument between LL Coo J and Bonz Malone, if I’m not mistaken. I believe LL either punched him in the face or swung on him or something.I think either Bonz was saying that certain cats wasn’t Hip-Hop and I think LL was offended because he was like, Who are you to say who’s Hip-Hop and who’s not? I caught the tail end of the argument. All I know is LL was p##### off at him and his people started gathering around. So I kind of see these dudes coming up the steps like real cruddy looking, grimy looking dudes and it was Treach and his boys and I was by myself with that trusty knapsack I used to keep with me you know, and we caught eye contact. I thought it was gonna be a problem at first but you know his look and my look kinda look alike if you was an outsider looking in, it looked like we was about to get it in on each other like hard body beefin’ but it was actually him acknowledging me and I was kinda standoffish and when I saw the acknowledgment I just nodded back. I didn’t even know he knew who I was. He walked past me said, “What up”, I said “What up”, and next time I seen’em it was in the city and he had asked me to do the record.AllHipHop.com: So on Flavor Unit was the intention of having an album come out and it just didn’t?Freddie Foxxx: Yeah. It was the intention was for me to do an album. At the time this is before people was wearing all that crazy fancy jewelry and people had like a real down to earth outlook on Hip-Hop. Just raw emceeing and I wanted to bring a sound that I didn’t think they had which was like a dark underground boom, bap kind of sound and that was my intention – to bring that sound to their label.Zapp “More Bounce to the Ounce”More Bounce to the Ounce – ZappAllHipHop.com: This joint has always been crazy and sampled like mad. It also reminds you of stuff going on today…Freddie Foxxx:

This “More Bounce to the Ounce” record nobody used it better than EPMD [“You Gots To Chill”],

they ID’d that record. When Hip-Hop started and people were rapping to

records I remember the sound sounded like a lot of live

instrumentation. These are not samples in this record, these are live

instruments; when you listen back to Hip-Hop in its original form,

Kurtis Blows, and Funky Fours Plus One Mores which was before that, the

Jazzy Five MCs, and the Fantastic Romantic 5 all those artists. When

I was a little kid I listened to them songs and I heard live

instrumentation. That right there, even though EPMD sampled it, it gave

me a feel of the reason it was so good sounding to me was because of

the way it sounded for them to be rhyming over live instrumentation.

Nowadays people chop stuff up and filter it so crazy you don’t get the

joy of hearing the baseline, or if [it’s] somebody’s voice do [Auto-Tune].That right there is influencing now what you hear

through Lil Wayne and Kanye and T-Pain. People giving T-Pain credit for

something that Roger Troutman been doing for a long time. I can’t knock

T-Pain for doing what he do because he does a good job at what he does

but there’s just so much that you can do with that. The original

Talk Box I think he put a tube in your mouth if I’m not mistaken, the

original one, it’s a little square box with a button on it and it’s a

tube that you put in the corner of your mouth. Stevie Wonder used it and

all those guys. I remember seeing Roger Troutman at a hotel

in the Regal Royal hotel, what used to be the Regal Royal Hotel, and I

had bought a Talk Box years ago and I asked him. I said, “Yo Rog, I like

your work, “ he said, “Thank you young fellow, thank you.” So I said,

“I got a Talk Box and I want to know if you can teach me or tell me how

to use it,” and he said, “the best advice that I can give you…,” and he

paused for a second, he gave me his card and said, “Hire me!” [laughs] Gang Starr “Credit Is Due” EMI/ChrysalisCredit Is Due – Gang StarrAllHipHop.com: I played that  obviously cause it’s Premo track. You two have worked together plenty, how did y’all meet?Freddie Foxxx: I saw these videos of Gang Starr and it was amazing to me to see. The one thing was Guru’s voice, that monotone kind of, you don’t know if it was nasally, his voice had a real unique sound to it. Rakim’s influence I saw in Guru, you know? I also noticed that the music beds that he was rapping over just had a whole different feel to what everybody else was doing and I always wanted to meet Premier. So I was coming out of MCA Records one day and I saw Premier crossing the street and we was crossing at the same corner and he was like, “Yo I respect you man, I respect you.”AllHipHop.com: So he already knew who you were?Freddie Foxxx: Yeah. I was like, “Yo dawg I always wanted to meet you,” so we exchanged numbers, we talked and that was when he called me and asked me to do “The Militia” and I was like definitely. You know what that was even before that, he asked me to do O.C’s record. He asked me to do “M.U.G” [O.C.s Jewelz] that was it. When he asked me to do those records that was when I first met him, so we had a conversation about Hip-Hop and where we came from, who we knew, just a regular basic conversation and it turned into I was getting calls from him on the constant just to do things for him. By the time I got to do “The Militia” with him I didn’t realize it but we actually toured a long time off that one project. We became friends based on the fact that we would get in the studio, he would just play beats and it would be a bunch of us, M.O.P., Show & AG would be in their sometimes different cats that he hung with. We’d all be in the studio and people would just be listening to these records and I’d be like, “Yo I wanna jump on that.” So we’d just write a bunch of rhymes. Premier was like, “I want this person,” and very tedious and meticulous with his work. He’s not just a regular dude who’ll go in slash something together. Premier goes in with a plan and he’s one of the first producers outside of Pete Rock,  that really produced a record for me. He was one of those first cats to be like, “Bump, do the vocal again either say it harder, or don’t say it that hard.” He was really critiquing what I laid down when most cats was afraid to direct me as a producer. They usually just give me the beat and let me do what I want, Premier was like, “Yo go back let’s do it from this point.” Certain cadences in my voice Premier would say, “Yo that’s what I want to hear from you.” I would follow his lead because he’s just a great producer, he’s an amazing producer.Ghostface Killah “The Watch” Razor Sharp/EpicThe Watch – Ghostface KillahAllHipHop.com: Ghost Deini. Obviously I played this because one your most infamous lines from Industry Shakedown was when you said Ghostface was saving the Wu. Freddie Foxxx: You know what, every time I hear Ghostface record I smile. I don’t care what record he do. I don’t think there’s no rapper that ever touched a mic with the swagger of a Ghostface Killah, like he is the definition of swagger to me because he’s always out the box, you know what I mean, and to me when you know you a star you show it in ways that most people will look at as arrogance or look at as cocky but Ghostface is the king of swagger. He’s a stylish dude, I like the fact that his pen can go in any direction at any given point you know. He’s actually coined a lot of phrases that people use, he got a lot of style, and every time I ever hear his records, I rock his joints all the time. He’s just so hood with it, he epitomizes MCs are really supposed to be. He got all the different sides, he got the gangsta side, he got the smooth side, he got the playa pimp mack side but he puts it all in a big old pile like a big chocolate strawberry kiwi sundae. And he’ll say some s**t like that. AllHipHop.com: During Industry Shakedown, when you dropped that record, was there ever any hesitation on your part or were people near you saying, “Bump I don’t know if they ready for this?”Freddie Foxxx: I didn’t really care about that. I was more concerned about getting my point across. It’s just like being in a fight. If I’m in a fight I don’t worry about what my enemy gonna do to me. I’m more focused about what I’m gonna do to my enemy to win so when I did Industry Shakedown my point was to give people my opinion. That’s what I was raised in Hip-Hop to learn how to do. When you get the mic if you aint gonna say nothing relevant or credible then shut up. But I had to make sure I let people know how I felt about the fact that there’s people out here who pretend to be more than they really are, or there’s MCs out here who people are giving props to that really don’t deserve their props. I was a battle mc when I started out so I made records in that kind of context. But I don’t worry about what people think about what I had to say or not, ‘cause I wasn’t in the rap business to be brownnosing people and kissing a**. I was in the game to make my lane and the doors that I knocked on if they didn’t open them I kicked’em down. Eric B. & Rakim “I Ain’t No Joke” 4th & BroadwayAllHipHop.com: The story has been told that Eric B. was telling Marley Marl, I got this rapper, I got this rapper, Freddi Foxxx and you weresupposed to come through and you didn’t make it and that’s how Rakim ended up working with Marley. True story?Freddie Foxxx: Yeah, I think Eric told that story to AllHipHop. He told a few people a few times. You know the funny thing is when I told the story everybody said I was not telling the truth, like I just wake up in the morning and wanna tell a lie or something. But I didn’t get mad about it ‘cause I knew there was other people out there who knew what the true story was. And when Eric told it, no one ever called me to say, “Yo dawg you was actually telling the truth or we believe you now.” And that’s didn’t matter to me, I know what it is, Eric knows what it is and if Rakim didn’t know what it is that don’t even phase me or bother me at all. [Rakim] definitely made his mark in this game and Rakim actually changed people’s approach to emceeing when he came out, ‘cause everybody was on top of the beat like 8th note, [sings, “I said a hip hop, hippie to the hippie, the hip, hip a hop, and you don’t stop the party people in the place just clap your hands”] and they was doing that. When Rakim came out all of that switched. You know me, I say what it is, the first rapper that I heard bite his style was Spoonie G who was already a legend in the game, he switched his whole rhyme style up and if you go back and listen to Spoonie G records he got a record, I cant remember the name of this record man it was on a cover with a blue label and he was rhyming like Rakim and I thought that was crazy. Rakim got Spoonie G rhyming like him now and then after he did it then King Sun and everybody else started using Rakim’s flow and I said that’s pretty impressive.I remember the excitement when Rakim and Eric dropped that record, the excitement that was going on in Long Island in that hood there was excitement about that record. There was excitement in East Elmhurst, Queens about Eric ‘cause that’s that hood he was from and the excitement to see they had made this record and it was a good look.AllHipHop.com:  Now I heard that the issue you had with Rakim is squashed? Is that correct?Freddie Foxxx: You know what, it wasn’t formally. Me and him ain’t talk about it or nothing like that, I just let it go because it wasn’t really that serious. My issue with him was based on the fact he’s never a dude who would make a phone call to me and say, “Yo man somebody said this, what is it Fox, is that real or they lying?” Instead he would automatically assume that I did something to maybe violate his name or something to that effect. But he know me better than that. If somebody said something like Rakim said this about you, I wouldn’t just lash out but somebody showed me an interview he did, they played the audio in the interview he did and I’m like this dude is buggin’ man and I’ve never been a cat to kind of cower down to people. He ain’t no different than no one else to me. The fans may see it one way but I see it, if he want it, anybody can get it. Like if we emceeing it’s all good, whatever, it don’t matter how dope you are, how dope you think you are, we making records I stay working, so I don’t need no props off of Rakim. People say, “Oh I’m active in my own zone,” so I can’t get props off of somebody who ain’t been hot in a minute. He never said nothing back about it and you know I let it go, I ain’t got no problems with him.

M.O.P. Mashes Out Atlanta (Concert Review)

Hip-Hop and slam dancing are two things the average person would consider antithetical to each other. But for those who’ve been brave enough to attend a concert featuring Brownsville, Brooklyn’s own Mash-Out Posse, fans would tell you not only can slam dancing and Hip-Hop go together, but they blend the perfect street and rock-tinged aesthetic that’s made M.O.P. underground favorites for 15 years.

Atlanta through the Scion free concert series (10/21/08) played host to the fiery duo of Billy Danze and Lil Fame, who were accompanied for the first time in their careers with a live band courtesy of Connie Price and the Keystones.

The use of live instrumentation only served to make M.O.P.’s frenetic, hardcore style more potent, as the crowd started a uncontrollable mosh a few chords into their opening song as “Cold As Ice”. Females who were brave enough to venture to the front gave as good as they got, pushing and elbowing their male brethren in return while everyone yelled in unison the lyrics to M.O.P. anthems “Put In The Air” and “New Jack City.”

Danze and Fame were somewhat awed to get such a strong reception in Atlanta, perhaps forgetting that the A-town of above all a transplant city full of former Tri-State and Philly Hip-Hop fans.

The fire and brimstone performance continued on past midnight, with M.O.P. commandeering the alcohol and cups from the bar and subsequently giving away drinks to everyone in the front rows. The liquor rejuvenated anyone who might have been battered from the moshing, as the  venue shaking crowd continued down memory lane with “How About Some Hardcore” and “Downtown Swinga ’96.”

Those who came on board with M.O.P. on their breakout 2000 LP Warriorz were not disappointed, as the duo made sure to sneak in “Calm Down” before the grand finale. Atlanta emcees Killer Mike and Bonecrusher made surprise appearances for the closing “Ante Up,” just to make sure M.O.P. had enough hypemen to blow the roof off the venue.

And they sure did, with some of the security looking highly concerned at the high levels of moshing, but not daring to intervene. Being eight years removed from their last major label release may signify that M.O.P. is done on a mainstream level. But this exceptional performance indicates they can continue to be a viable underground force for as long as they choose.

Cornell U Acquires Hip-Hop Collection; Bambaataa Hosts Roundtable

Cornell University’s Ithaca, New York campus is set to host two days of performances and discussions with some of Hip-Hop’s pioneers next week, to mark the school’s historical acquisition of a collection of documents from Hip-Hop’s early days.

The collection, titled “Born in the Bronx: The Legacy and Evolution of Hip Hop,” was recently presented to the school library’s Division of Rare and Manuscript Collections as a gift from author and collector Johan Kugelberg.

It consists of almost one thousand sound recordings, textile art, books and magazines, as well as the archives of Bronx photographer Joe Conzo, Jr. and more than five hundred original flyers designed by pioneering flyer designers like Buddy Esquire and others.

The “Born in the Bronx” collection will serve as the foundation for Cornell’s growing Hip-Hop collection.

The two-day conference and celebration will kick off Friday afternoon (October 31) with a roundtable discussion led by pioneering DJ and artist Afrika Bambaataa.

Bambaataa will be joined by other pioneers, including Grandmaster Caz, Grandwizzard Theodore, Popmaster Fable, Tony Tone, Disco Wiz, and Kool Lady Blue.

Other speakers at the event will include author Jeff Chang and Conzo, who, along with Bambaataa, contributed to Kugelberg’s 2007 book Born in the Bronx: a Visual Record of the Early Days of Hip-Hop.

“By paying tribute to those who laid the foundation, we tell our own history,” said Bambaataa of the event. “Preserving Hip-Hop’s early years will help future generations understand the places they come from.”

The discussions will be held from 3 – 6:30 pm at Bailey Hall, with performances by a select group of artists starting at 8:30 pm on Friday evening.

Additional performances will be held on Saturday (November 1) from 9:15 am to 3:30 pm. All events are free and open to the public.

“We want the community at large to celebrate Hip-Hop’s contributions to American culture through a better understanding of its origins, which are the focus of this unique collection,” added Katherine Reagan, curator of Rare Books & Manuscripts at Cornell University Library.

The Cornell celebration comes just in time to usher in Hip-Hop History Month, which is recognized by the Universal Zulu Nation as the entire month of November.

It is so designated in recognition of the official birthday of the Universal Zulu Nation, founded by Afrika Bambaataa on November 12, 1973.

November 12, 1974 is also recognized as the official birthday of Hip-Hop.

Rapper Rev. Run and RunAthletics have teamed with Scion to bring sneaker aficionados together in New York during a benefit event for Soles4Souls. Soles4Souls is a non-profit organization that donates footwear to underprivileged children and adults. The event takes place at Ultra Nightclub in Manhattan’s Flatiron District. In order to gain access to the exclusive benefit event, attendees are asked to donate two pairs of shoes of any style and gender. All of the shoes will be donated to the struggling men and women in Darfur, Africa. The event, which features DJ Mel DeBarge on the wheels of steel, takes place tonight (October 23) from 6-8:30 PM. Rev. Run launched Run Athletics in the fall of 2003, with his brother, Hip-Hop mogul Russell Simmons. Run is also the star of MTV’s#### reality show Run’s House, which is now in its fifth season.
