Where Are They Now?: MC Lyte

In today’s image driven Rap industry it’s difficult for a female MC to create her own lane. But if you looked at the thriving career of veteran rapper, MC Lyte, it might seem easy. After enlisting the help of her older brothers, Milk Dee and Gizmo, collectively known as Audio Two, MC Lyte recorded her first single “I Cram To Understand U.” The Brooklyn, NY native eventually landed a record deal with First Priority Music, and dropped her classic debut Lyte As A Rock, inspiring b-girls worldwide. Lyte would go on to become the first solo female rap artist to be nominated for a Grammy, for her street anthem “Ruffneck.” With over 20 years in the game and an impressive body of film, television and voiceover work. MC Lyte is still one of the most respected MCs in Hip-Hop. And with the launch of her Hip-Hop/soul group, Almost September, MC Lyte looks to build onto her legacy and help create a new lane in the music she loves.  Still a keeping a heavy presence in the game, catch up with Lyte. AllHipHop.com: When you got in the game Hip-Hop was still a very male dominated area of the music industry. What made you want to get in to it? MC Lyte: I just feel like I had a voice. I feel like I had something to say. I’d already heard Sha Rock from Funky Four +1 and I had already heard Salt ‘N Pepa and Roxanne Shante, Real Roxanne and Sweet-T and after that I just felt like this is something I wanted to do.MC Lyte “Paper Thin”AllHipHop.com: Looking at today’s industry verses how things were when you came in do you feel females have a better chance making it in Hip-Hop today?MC Lyte: I think it’s all a matter of perspective, because I’m an Internet head. When you’re a female artist and you’re not being received well by the major record labels you can create your own lane and do your own thing. I feel, in that way, it’s way better for any artist not just females but male MCs as well. You no longer need a sign of approval from a major record label. You can just do your own thing and make it happen. I do think it’s sad that there aren’t many on a major label front but that’s not a sadness that supersedes my happiness for independence. And it’s a rough road as an independent. As one who has done it…I’ve done the independent and I’ve done the majors. Now I’m back independent but if a major happens to come back into my life and give me all the things that I want and treats me as an artist fairly then I’d definitely slide into that opportunity. But, for the most part, I see nothing but victory for these female MCs that don’t have major record deals because now they get to lay it down like how they want and they don’t have to put a whole lot into creating an image that’s not them. MC Lyte “Cha, Cha, Cha”AllHipHop.com: It’s common knowledge that female artists can often be “pushed” to project a certain image. The one’s who don’t are looked at with a slanted eye. You being a female MC who relied more on lyrics and less on high heels, have you found yourself questioned for your image.MC Lyte: Absolutely. I think every female, be it MC or any other artist, it’s all in how you come out and how you’re perceived. People are always going to look to put you in labels and boxes because it helps them to define who they are.  Whatever they’re trying to stick on you they got some stuff that helps them. It helps people when they can look at you and say, “That’s what that is and that’s what this person does.” I think it’s sad because you shouldn’t be defined by the clothes that you wear. Nor should you be defined by what someone else’s said who doesn’t even know you. It seems systematic, with me being the business as long as I have, I see MCs and singers who come in and immediately the finger gets pointed. “Do they do this, do they do that, are they into that? Is he gay, is she gay?” All of these things have nothing to do with their creative process, who they are, or what they bring to the table creatively. So because I’ve been in it so long it’s no surprise to me when I see it done to others. I expect it. And you keep going and after a while it doesn’t matter. It kind of fades away.MC Lyte “Ruffneck”AllHipHop.com: What would you like to see in the next great female MC?MC Lyte: Creativity, originality. Her being able to encompass everything. And actually there’s a huge amount of great female MCs. They’re just not all over your magazines and video shows. I know quite a few and the list spans from here to Germany. There’s a lot out there that certainly deserve the masses attention. AllHipHop.com: You have been able to maintain a presence in Hip-Hop by making slight adjusting your flow as the years go on. Is that a conscious effort or just natural progression?MC Lyte: It’s just me. It’s just growth. Like you don’t walk the same way you did when you were 15, right? It’s different. It’s life and your experiences cause you to walk a little different. Maybe you’ve had some sort of loss in your life, maybe you’ve lost someone dear to you. That could’ve slowed you down and made you walk a little differently. Disappointments can make you walk differently and things that are good and positive can make you walk differently. I know dudes with a whole lot of money walk different from a broke dude because it’s a different mentality. Me spitting differently is just growth. It’s a part of me. I don’t really concentrate on trying to make it different. I just listen to what the music tells me to do.         MC Lyte “Cappucino”AllHipHop.com: You’re one of the most successful female MC’s to date. How is it now being part of a group?MC Lyte: It’s wonderful. I used to be part of a group before I even started. To me it seems like I’m just going back to what feels natural. That being collaboration and working with people who want the same outcome. We all have the same goal in mind so I know there’s a team effort. It’s definitely something that feels good. You always have somebody else that has your back and you have theirs. It’s just family working together. Like if you tried to do AllHipHop.com by yourself, it’s not going to happen. You can struggle and try to make it happen but if you’re going to compete with all the other sites, you’re going to need some help. In essence, the beginning of this group, Almost September, is been making me stronger and me making them stronger.               AllHipHop.com: What can people expect from your new group, Almost September, as far as the content and the sound?MC Lyte: The content varies. We talk about good music, we talk about the revolution that’s lacking in today’s market place. We have a song called “Sparkle” where I talk about a girl who loses her life to crack but then gets it back. And we go into how she was able to get back on her own two feet and keep it moving on in a positive direction. I got a song called “I Got Something to Say” where I say some things that are not being said on a social and political front here in the United States of America. We talk about a lot of different things. What the fans need to know is that this group we put together for the purpose of people who enjoy hip-hop but have made their way into music. People like Anthony Hamilton, India.Arie, Lyfe Jennings. These people still love Hip-Hop but they don’t really feel like they’re getting what they need from Hip-Hop. And that’s not to say that the younger generation and the Hip-Hop that exists now is not worth anything. I’m a DJ. I love Jeezy, I love Joc. I love what those guys bring to the game because it’s very creative. We just wanted to create a sound that the generation I grew up with feels familiar and comfortable with and J.Lee is as young as you are and he provides that young balance with the group. I just think, in total it’s a great sound. It’s something familiar but something fresh and new about it. MC Lyte: Right now there’s a six song EP [Almost September] on the digital front. Any digital platform you go to you should be able to find Almost September. I say everyone should at least check it out. We’ve been getting very good responses from the regular Hip-Hop listeners to journalists and artists. It just feels good. MC Lyte “Stop, Look, Listen”AllHipHop.com: In addition to your achievements as an MC you’ve been gaining momentum as an actress. How’d you get into that and are you looking to develop that aspect more?MC Lyte: I’m going to keep developing that. I think, for the most part, that it’s important to set up a plan. And I think that it’s important for people to know that it’s all about forming partnerships. I’m a true believer that if you have a concept that you believe in no one can shake you from it. It doesn’t matter how long it takes to bring it to fruition because that what it takes. Everyone would do it if it were easy. How you hear me on projects like the BET dating show, The Boot, is that I’ve built relationships with people and I’m always telling them what I’m trying to do and they take me seriously. They know when something comes up they can call me and say, “You said you wanted to do this well, we have this. Are you interested?” so it’s just about forming partnerships and communicating with people and telling them what it is you want to do. AllHipHop.com: Looking back on some of the moves you made in the past, do you have any regrets?MC Lyte: That goes without saying. Once you’re older there’s a lot of things you’d want to do differently but you’ve got to live through it. It’s like your parents telling you don’t do that. You’re not going to not do that you’re going to do it and learn your lesson. They’ll say I told you so but at least you’ll feel you learned it on your own. It’s just like that. I had to learn things and in hindsight I might say maybe I should’ve did that differently. Or maybe I should’ve done this another way. But I also have to remember that I still have the days ahead of me so I can’t really think about those things.         AllHipHop.com: With you still touring and creating music, you are continuing to build on your legacy. What do you want your fan’s final thoughts to be?MC Lyte: That I helped people. I didn’t get whisked away in just me. In just being whoever the world thinks I am. It’s like in the song “Just Lyte” I say, “Everywhere I go they stop and stare but wait I breath the same air.” I’m no bigger, no larger, no different. I just have a message and I wouldn’t stop until somebody would listen to me. I believe I’ve been given this gift to help someone else.  However it comes through to somebody is how it comes through. In the end, I think that’s why we all have talents; to be able to help someone.

Eminem’s Album Titled ‘Relapse’; Rapper Teams With Nike

Hip-Hop star Eminem squashed rumors about his album title last night (October 15) and announced the album’s official title: Relapse.

The rapper debuted his track “I’m Having A Relapse” last night (October 15) live during the release party for his latest book The Way I Am in New York.

The announcement puts other rumored titled like Empack and King Mathers to rest. Relapse, which is Eminem’s highly anticipated sixth album, is due in stores sometime in 2008.

In related news, Eminem has teamed with Nike’s Jordan brand again, to create his own custom Jordan’s.

The Jordan 2, which is the rapper’s favorite in the Air Jordan collection and is his second collaboration with Nike to create a custom sneaker.

The limited edition sneaker is being produced by Eminem in different colorways than then original AJ2.

The sneakers also come with handwritten lyrics from various Eminem song’s on it. The rapper made 313 pairs in the limited edition run, as a tribute to Detroit, as 313 is the city’s area code.

All proceeds from the sale of the show will be donated to Eminem’s non-profit, The Marshall Mathers Foundation, which helps disadvantaged youth in the state of Michigan.

JON B DISSES ROBIN THICKE LIKE CRAZY

Next week, AllHipHop’s Alternatives section is going to perpetuate a White on White crime! (If you have Black on Black crime, why not?) Anyway, Jon B is livid, as a pioneers White singer in a Black music genre. Well, here is a smidgent of what he said.

AllHipHop.com: Well I do see some similarities in both of your careers. You worked with Tupac and he’s worked with Lil’ Wayne.

Jon B: Yeah and he’s worked with 50 Cent too. He did a video with 50 Cent. To me it was redundant for him to say, I just don’t want somebody to jump on my album at the last minute and look good next to me singing. That’s so corny to me, bro. That’s not the right. He couldn’t have meant that. That’s like the stardom talking. Honestly, what the hell?

More sparks next week! I can’t wait too see ‘em knuckle up!

ACE HOOD’S NEW GAL?

Rumor has it Ace Hood is dating a woman from his video “Ride of Die” that also features Trey Songz. She is also the No2. on his myspace page. I suppose is helps that she calls herself “Lady Ace~Beautiful Individual That Creates Haters.” Now her page is set to private and I’m not going to friend request her, but it sure seems to confirm things. What you think? She’s a bad mama!

TREY SONGZ DISSES ALL R&B DUDES

Uhh…Trey Songz is a lil odd for these cover songz. He disses a number of artists like Omarion and stuff.

Well, I got the word, like I knew I would and it would seem that Hot Dollar isn’t over. He’s just getting started. So, you want to know what that link is, right? That’s the link to Hot Dollar’s brand new Official Mixtape called “The Crackhead Vol. 2.” I’m releasing it exclusively with DJ Ill Will – well Will did all the work. You can’t get this anywhere but here until you steal the link. LOL. Ill Will explained a few things to me. Here it is:

“I wanted to give you an accurate portrayal on how not only is Hot Dollar not blackballed in the industry, but at the moment is thriving with his brand new single “Switch Ya Swag Up” receiving heavy regional spins as of last week. In addition, Hot Dollar is still signed to Jermaine Dupri at Island/Def Jam/So So Def. Matter of fact, Hot Dollar just turned in his album a few weeks ago with features including Sean Kingston, Jagged Edge, Rick Ross, Gucci Mane and production from DJ Khalil, Tha Bizness, JR Rotem and Dr Dre…okay well not Dr. Dre but you get the point the kid is far from being swept under the rug!! LOL”

Ahhhhh…I like that humorous twist. Good stuff.

BIGGIE, TUPAC AND DEATH ROW…ON ONE STAGE

I can’t believe this video? Click the pic for the super ill performance with Death Row, Snoop Dogg, Biggie and Pac all on one stage! Crazy! YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS THIS! I wish I was a baller, a lil’ bit taller back in those days.

50 CENT GOES AT REALITY TV

I see you, 50. 50 looked at that girl like he was going to slap her. I want to see this…lol…the Asian babe tried to bring the ruckus.

ILLSEED’S QUICKIES

Eminem confirmed on Shade45 that his new album’s official title is Relapse and he also stated that it comes out after 50’s album and before Dre’s. Oh, great. That means we have to wait longer for Dre.

Shout out to Alicia Key, who was nominated for five American Music Awards!

Madonna and Guy Ritchie will be over by Christmas. The couple have announced they are separating and the X-Mas gift will be the divorce. Ironically that would be their eighth wedding anniversary.

I’m hearing some buzzing that 50 Cent is dating Vanessa Simmons or something and SHE might be the one posing in his album insert. I don’t believe it though.

Brandy apparently has the hots for Idris Elba. OK.

There are new rumors that Gucci Mane was stabbed or killed in jail, but he’s ok…if you can be ok in jail.

SIGNS THE WORLD IS COMING TO AN END

Natalie Jackson was slapped up with a £150 fine (or $264) at KFC — for staying too long as she ate a bucket of chicken. This woman and a friend tackled a family size bucket! Jackson is a nurse in training and her friend chomped down 14 pieces of chicken, 6 bags of fries and soda before departing. The chicken was about an hour and a half of straight eating and roughly 5,456-calories. She was given a ticket for parking in the lot for passing the 75-minute limit. She simply said, “We were hungry.” They should have fined her for being a sloth.

Eminem’s Relapse: Bump It Or Blow It

After a long layoff, the turbulence in both the Hip-Hop landscape and at his label, 8Mile’s finest returns with a little blast off at Sirus Shade45, where he dropped “I’m Having A Relapse.”  On again off again with Kim, a book by his momma, and a much ballyhooed attempt at rhyming by his brother has kept Mr. Mathers if not in the spotlight, in the news.Recently voted by voters of Vibe as the best emcee currently drawing breath, Eminem served notice that it would take more than a few years off to “kill whitey.” While his last Encore left much to be desired, this little outburst gives the impression that maye, just maybe, the hunger is back.  Here’s the clip and judge for yourself.  Is Eminem truly back, or is he a shell of his former self?  Let AllHipHop know what’s good.

TODAY’S RUMORS!

GUCCI MANE IS VERY ALIVE AND IN JAIL

Radric Davis aka Gucci Mane is very alive. Well, that’s good right? The bad part is that he’s still in jail for a year. I have no more to say on the matter.

Since Gucci Mane is alive, you should click here to see “McCain Be Old.” I know that has NOTHING to do with nothing, but I thought it was funny. That debate is going to be crazy.

BRISCO GOES HARD ON JACKI-O

Remember all that drama at the BET Awards, when Jacki-O tried to get on the set of that Lil’ Wayne video? There was an alleged altercation between her and Brisco. I heard Brisco said the following in the latest issue of Ozone magazine. He gets super ugly on her:

“And yeah, she’s a girl, but I will slap the f**k out of her. I beat the f**k out of her. She knows the deal. Other girls might not know, but she knows a ni**a don’t play that s###. All that extra talking around these out-of-town ni**as and s**t will transpire.”

This is as personal as it gets. WOW!

SUGE’S GAME IS STILL TIGHT!

The cops want to talk to a woman that Suge Knight allegedly kicked, punched and left naked on the side of a road. I say allegedly, because these are pending! Las Vegas copper went to get her for a new interview and she came up missing – according to tmz. I mean, missing as in nobody can find her ast this moment. They still plan to continue with the case against Suge though. I guess they have whatever they needed and wanted to strengthen the case.

WOW! MORE WEST COAST RUMORS!

You know I love the West Coast, but when it comes to the rumors, the West can be deficient unless its 40 Glocc running up on Lil’ Wayne’s truck. Do you remember the name Hot Dolla? He was a pretty talented dude, but he hasn’t blossomed the way we thought he would. Remember when he approached Daz at the Dub Car Show in Los Angeles about 2 years ago with his entourage (Guerrilla Black was in that mix). A fight sort of insued. Well, I heard Big Snoop Dogg got on the phone and handled his biz. No, not a hit! I heard he made sure the media and radio stations knew that this young man attempted to do harm to his cousin. And that was all she wrote. Am I wrong?

DO YOU WANT 50 CENT PALMING YOUR TAIL? IF SO, HE WANTS YOU FOR HIS NEW CD!

SHELZ: TAKES THE NFL RUMORS ON:

When All Else Fails, There is Always the NFL.

Ballers! Keep On Ballin!

This is Brandon Lloyd. He plays for the Chicago Bears. He is having an identity crisis. He thinks he’s a rapper. He is wrong.

He probably thinks his hair is cool too. Wrong again.

Jim Brown Says Michael Jordan is Full of Chicago Bull

Wow…. You have to respect Jim Brown. He’s like a Renaissance Man, but why Jordan and why now? I don’t know, but this is what he told the LA Times.

“Athletes need to represent more than just getting a big contract and lots of endorsements. Take Michael Jordan. To me, he is full of bull. He’s hiding his true self. All he cares about is getting ahead, being popular and enjoying the wealth of this country. Same with Kobe Bryant. For them, it’s all about making money and doing all the commercials.”

Why Pacman? Why?

So Adam “Pacman” Jones was at a party and the security guard the Cowboys hired to protect him from himself said it was time to go, but Pacman didn’t want to go. So he sucker punched security in the bathroom while he was tinkling. So not only does he have a black eye, he has p### on his shoes. They start fighting, but when the cops get there, security doesn’t want to press charges. The Cowboys don’t seem to think this is a big deal, but the league feels differently as Pacman is working under some sort of “no whipping ass in the club” clause. He’s suspended indefinitely, but he and security are still friends. Awwww.

Aaaand I’m out! Go Ravens! Please!

LADY DRRRRAMA! TAKE IT AWAY…

Affirmative Action… The Eminem Edition…

Well Ill be damned after all these years it looks like Eminem is ready to be social again! The rapper has a new book ‘The Way I Am’ coming out which we reported on a couple weeks ago and with that book comes tons of promotion and sightings for all you fans to go check out. One event in particular will be a SECRET book release party which will be hosted by Angela Yee and DJ Kay Slay along with producer The Alchemist spinning records all night. If you like me have absolutely no pull and really want to know what’s going down at the event don’t fret just listen into Eminem’s Shade45 Sirius Satellite radio station, which will broadcast LIVE from the venue. Leave it to Eminem to always look out for the STANS!

Sidenote.. Michelle Obama listens to Beyonce…

In a recent interview with Women’s mag Marie Claire Michelle Obama was asked what music she has in her iPod and she answered:

– Anthony David

– Stevie Wonder

– Beyonce

– Mariah Carey

Michelle is a really cool lady I must say… Isn’t it crazy how Michelle can operate an Ipod and John McCain cant even work a PC? Just a thought! Speaking of which, make sure you all catch the last presidential debate tonight @ 9PM.

Angela and Vanessa get their own show… Like we didn’t see that coming!

Looks like MTV is really riding the wave with the Simmons fam, and are giving the Simmons girls their own show titled ‘Daddy’s Girls’! The show will follow the girls as they continue to build their Pastry Brand and deal with the growing pains of coming into adulthood and adjusting to new life in LA. A release date for the show hasn’t been released yet. So does this mean there will be no more Runs house? Cause if so that’s not a fair trade off 🙁 Speaking of the Simmons…

Just Because…

Damn, I never knew Russ was on it like that… no wonder he can keep chicks half his age satisfied! I wonder if he’s still accepting applications? I’d apply! This takes a lot of upper body strength and patience, two things very important in the ______!

Lady Dramas Food for Thought…

Its a debate night y’all should already know!

Once Upon A Time In Compton (DVD Review)

Those countless interviews which mention the World Class Wreckin’ Cru as merely a footnote hit home for Alonzo “Lonzo” Williams. He’s read Dre’s biography and he’s heard all the NWA audio clips. According to this founder of the Electro-hop group that gave birth to West Coast Rap, Dr. Dre and others have distorted the story. So with this documentary Once Upon A Time In Compton, Lonzo offers his own highly overlooked perspective.

This film is not going to wow you with presentation points. The amateurish cover and rudimentary cinematography may discourage viewers, especially when they realize the documentary is all one monologue from Lonzo himself. Yet, what is absolutely golden about the video is the exclusive footage of a young Dr. Dre on stage spinning it up with the Cru. We’re talking twenty-something year Dre cutting a funky version of the “Mr. Postman” in a purple satin surgeon’s suit. Eff youtube; these rare gems are ready for the Hip-Hop auction block.

Williams, who founded Dre’s original group the World Class Wreckin’ Cru and owned LA’s famed Eve After Dark nightclub at age twenty two, tells the story of a few hood brothers from Compton who got rich and then got angry at each other. He recalls the group’s merry national tour up until they signed a one hundred thousand record deal with CBS as the first Rap group on the label.

He then details the legal troubles he endured with Eazy-E as the group split and became NWA. Williams would later try his hand at the executive side of matters, pushing Michel’le’s single, “Turn Off the Lights” and launching the successful but short-lived West Coast Records distribution with the Cru’s financial disputes still lingering on both sides.

All in all, Upon A Time In Compton deserves an objective sit-through. If not for Williams’ convincing story about the real scoop behind the Ruthless Records feud, then check it out for the vintage clips of Dr. Dre and boys in shiny suits and Jheri curls doing a fun–loving two-step. Lonzo assures at the end of the hour-long documentary that there will be a more detailed book, so either way peep this second side of the story.

Once Upon A Time In Compton Trailer

Knockout Nation: Vitali Makes Peter Quit! Dawson Too Much for Tarver, Mayweather Speaks on Retirement, Carlos Zarate

Vitali Domination Forces Peter to Quit

Nearly

four years of inactivity proved insignificant to former champ Vitali

Klitschko (36-2, 35 KOs), as the Ukrainian giant easily beat Samuel

Peter (30-2, 23 KOs) into submission over eight one-sided rounds.

In

round one, the towering Klitschko immediately let Peter know he meant

business by wobbling the Nigerian Nightmare with lead left hooks. The

straight right hand was also on display as the Ukrainian measured him

effortlessly from the outside.

After

looking worried in the corner, Peter fared no better in round two, now

being countered repeatedly with lead left hooks whenever he lunged in.

Adding to Peter’s woes, the increasingly confident Vitali began

clubbing the American heavyweight with triple jabs.

Already

laboring by the third, the WBC titlist’s sluggish punch output was

reflected most in the lack of snap on his jab, which he was pushing out

and leaving himself open to be countered. Dr. Iron Fist remained

composed and continued his best Ali impersonation by throwing jabs and

lead hooks from his hip on a hapless Peter. For all the shots he took,

all WBC champ could show for it was a partially blocked left hook to

the body.

Round

four saw Peter get the worst early on of a jabbing contest, and get

countered by a monstrous counter right over a wild left hook. A

swelling and bleeding Peter became desperate and launched a clumsy bull

rush at Klitschko, only to see the former champ coolly take a step back

and deflect every blow.

Klitschko

utilized rounds six and seven to let his jab almost exclusively bust up

the fading Peter, who had become the nothing more than a punching bag.

Wary of applying pressure because of the hard jabs crashing into his

nose, Peter stayed perilously at the end of Vitali’s range and was

punished with straight and overhand rights for his trouble.

In

between rounds, Samuel Peter’s corner implored him to press the fight

and throw combinations to stifle the beating he was taking. But the

fighter’s looks of resignation and helplessness were clear in detailing

that it was not a matter of if, but when Peter would succumb to the

punishment.

Sensing

weakened prey, Klitschko stormed out for round eight throwing an

impressive mix of firepower: double jab-straight right combos, double

lead left hooks, and the occasional counter right uppercut. Taking

another drubbing, Peter with both eyes swollen and mouth spurting blood

returned to the corner looking for a way out.

Seated

before the ninth, Peter shook his head multiple times while his trainer

tried to give advice for the next round. With a microphone right below

his fighter, the trainer asked Peter to repeat his mumbled statement,

to which Peter replied “no more…stop it.”

By

quitting on his stool, Peter relinquishes the WBC heavyweight title to

Vitali Klitschko. The win also makes Vitali the first fighter to win a

title in his first fight back after nearly four years, and the first to

hold a world title simultaneously with a sibling in the same weight

class.

Last

week, I stated that the Vitali Klitschko of four years ago would have

defeated Peter, but little did I or anyone suspect that same Vitali

would enter the ring this past Saturday. Klitschko showed great

accuracy, stamina, and ring generalship to box circles around his

younger foe.

Unfortunately

the glory may be short-lived, as the more exciting Klitshcko at 37

years-old hasn’t decided whether he will continue fighting. Previously,

Vitali expressed a main goal of wanting to hold a title along with his

brother, which he has now achieved. Plus, there is no chance to unify

if he stays since the brothers have vowed never to fight each other.

For

Peter, the loss marks another setback when faced against his best

competition. And as pointed out by the Showtime announce team, the loss

again reveals Peter’s huge liabilities when paired against a larger

foe, as seen with Wladimir Klitschko, Jameel McCline, and now Vitali

Klitschko.

Dawson’s Speed Befuddles Tarver to Decision

Chad

Dawson’s words couldn’t shut Antonio Tarver’s mouth these past few

months, but last Saturday the speed of his hands sure did.

Executing

a game-plan based on lightning fast combinations and a consistent body

attack, former WBC champ Chad Dawson (27-0, 17 KOs) outworked cagey

veteran Antonio Tarver (27-5, 19 KOs) to a unanimous decision win.

For

the first two rounds Tarver struggled to find any rhythm against the

younger Dawson, and was visibly shaken by the young lion’s five to six

punch hook combinations to the body. In addition, the power behind Bad

Chad’s punches physically knocked Tarver back throughout the rounds and

prevented the loquacious pugilist from mounting significant counter

attacks.

In

round three Tarver found Dawson’s rhythm and timed him with an overhand

left. Dawson in his zeal to respond was then stunned by a sneaky

uppercut. Now cautious of being caught again, Tarver secured the rest

of the round on punch volume as the challenger remained in a defensive

shell.

Dawson

got back on track in rounds four and five, showcasing dazzling hook

counters to confuse the champion. Along with cracking shots downstairs,

Dawson again would knock Tarver off-balance with his counter hooks to

easily take the rounds.

Taking

round six off, Dawson unwisely spent the round goading Tarver to attack

him, a possible receipt for the months of trash-talking he endured.

Even though this made have given Dawson some emotional gratification,

his abysmal punch activity allowed Tarver to steal another round.

However,

in rounds seven through nine Dawson kept Tarver guessing with

unpredictable, explosive combinations. The spontaneous assaults keep

Tarver for committing completely to his punches, as he became more

concerned on whenever he would be strafed to the body with five to

eight blinding punches.

Still,

Dawson’s inexperience gave Tarver late chances to get back into the

fight. Partly due to fatigue and concentration lapses, Tarver was able

to outhustle Dawson in rounds ten and eleven. Here, Dawson again

lowered his punch output too much against Tarver’s consistent work-rate.

Aware

he was far behind, Tarver started the final round desperate for the

knockout. Throwing caution to the wind, the 2-time Roy Jones conqueror

pounced on Dawson looking to land a homerun shot.

Unfortunately for Tarver, Dawson’s superior hand speed would again be the deciding factor.

Over a lazy Tarver setup jab, Dawson fired a quick counter left hook that spun Tarver, dropping him for a balance knockdown.

Secure

that the definitive stamp was put on the contest, Dawson cautiously

finished the round and his best mainstream win to date.

Scores for the unanimous decision win for Chad Dawson were 118-109 and 117-110 twice.

In the post-fight interview, Dawson gave credit to Floyd Mayweather Jr., who called him before the fight to express his support.

“He

gave me a call in the locker room and told me I’m the best fighter in

the world hands down,” Dawson explained. “Just to get a call from Floyd

Mayweather to big me up like that was a big confidence booster for me.

I was thinking about that all in the locker room. I knew I had to come

out and put on a show.”

With the win, Chad Dawson now becomes a viable option for the winner of Roy Jones-Joe Calzaghe next month.

For

Antonio Tarver, the 39 year-old finds himself having to rebuild once

again, and may want to consider engaging in a rubber-match with fellow

veteran Glen Johnson.

Floyd Mayweather Shoots Down Comeback Rumors

In

attendance at the Dawson-Tarver fight, former pound for pound king

Floyd Mayweather addressed rumblings that his return to the ring is

inevitable.

“No,

I’m just here to support young fighters like Chad Dawson and all the

fighters out there right now,” Money May clarified. “You have MMA out

there now. I just wanna wish all the fighters out there the best.

Absolutely [I’m retired].”

Holyfield Gets Another Title Shot Against Valuev

Evander Holyfield, who turns 46 this month, has been offered a shot against WBA champion Nikolai Valuev in December.

According to Valuev’s management team, an offer has been sent to the former champ and is pending finalization.

Holyfield, a three time heavyweight champion, last fought October 13, 2007, losing a lopsided decision to Sultan Ibragimov.

Despite

fears for the health and reports that his speech is already slurred,

it’s expected that Holyfield will move forward with his latest attempt

at another heavyweight title.

Throwback Fighter of the Week: Carlos Zarate

Possessing

power rarely seen at the lower weights, former bantamweight champion

Carlos Zarate was one of the most exciting knockout artists of the

1970s.

Turning

pro in 1970, Zarate quickly made history as the only boxer to have 20

or more knockouts in a row after starting his career with 23 successive

knockouts.

By 1976, he earned a WBC title shots against fellow Mexican Rodolfo Martinez, who he knocked out in eight rounds.

After

three successful defenses, Zarate met fellow undefeated Mexican and WBA

bantamweight champion in 1977 in what was dubbed “The Battle of the Z

Boys.” Hated rivals, Zarate emerged victorious from the grudge match

shootout with a 4th round TKO.

The

following year Zarate didn’t prove as lucky moving up to Super

Bantamweight against another rival in Wilfredo Gomez. Being too small

to hurt the naturally bigger Gomez, Zarate suffered his first loss via 5th

round TKO. The fight is also notable to pitting two fighters who at the

time of their meeting had the highest knockout percentages in history

between them: Gomez at 21-0, 21 KOs and Zarate at 55-0, 54 KOs.

Another

setback came the following year, as Zarate suffered a heart-breaking

split decision loss to Lupe Pintor despite flooring his gym-mate in the

4th.

After the loss, Zarate retired for five years before launching a comeback in 1985.

Despite

a string of 11 straight KOs including one of over #1 contender Richard

Savage, Zarate ultimately lost his biggest contests against WBC Super

Bantemweight champ Jeff Fenech in 1987 (4th round TD on accidental butt) and in 1988 against Daniel Zaragoza via 10th round stoppage.

Retiring for good after the defeat, Zarate joined the International Boxing Hall of Fame during the 1990s.

His final record stands at 66-4, 63 KOs.

Colin Powell Raps At African Festival

Former secretary of state Colin Powell is the latest politician to get the urge to emcee, as the respected Washington veteran performed an impromptu freestyle this week at London’s Africa Rising Festival.

The festival, which has become a popular showcase for African music and culture, paired Powell with African rapper Olu Maintain, originator of the Nigerian dance and song “Yahoozee.”

Powell, to the crowd’s shock, alternated between performing the dance and spitting various call and response chants into the mic.

After his set’s conclusion, Powell took a moment to pontificate with the crowd on the importance of African heritage, acknowledging their culture and never dismissing or forgetting it despite their achievements.

“I stand before you as an African-American,” Powell reflected. “ Many people have said to me you became secretary of state of the USA, is it still necessary to say that you are an African-American or that you are black? And I say yes, so that we can remind our children.”

After initially advocating the U.S. war in Iraq as secretary of state, Powell resigned from his post in 2004 after learning the intelligence he received from government officials was inaccurate.

Since returning to private life, Powell has advocated reform of the US intelligence community.

Also, Powell has revealed he privately opposed the Iraq war and spent considerable time attempting to convince President Bush not to invade.

With his foray into Hip-Hop, Colin Powell to date joins Karl Rove (MC Rove under his Hop-Hop persona) as the only two Washington politicians to perform Hip-Hop music.

The Game Cancels New Orleans Show For Unknown Reasons

New Orleans fans of The Game were left disappointed over the weekend after the rapper unceremoniously cancelled a scheduled festival appearance, AllHipHop.com has learned.

The multi-platinum artist was listed as one of the headliners of the SAIG Entertainment and International Arts Festival, which took place October 11 and 12, as one of many entertainment-driven initiatives aiming to rebuild New Orleans’ ailing cultural economy.

The bill also featured performances by five-time Grammy nominee Tamia, Reggae band Morgan Heritage and R&B singer Lloyd, who is a New Orleans native.

According to the Festival’s founder Ernest Kelly, event producers received word that The Game had failed to board a 3:30 pm flight on Sunday (Oct 12) for unknown reasons and that his management had cancelled all New Orleans hotel and transportation accommodations.

“The Game not showing up in New Orleans is disheartening,” Kelly said. “This 20-year festival has been the highlight of the community and the funds raised from this festival the past three years have gone toward the rebuilding of The Big Easy. It is a shame The Game disappointed his fans and the City of New Orleans.”

At press time, calls to The Game’s management staff had not been returned.

In related news, sources have told AllHipHop.com that The Game’s sister was shot during a drive by shooting last night (October 14) in Compton.

Sources told AllHipHop.com that the woman sitting on her front porch when she suffered minor injuries after being grazed by a bullet.

50 Cent Announces ‘Money & Power’ Reality Series Debut

Mogul 50 Cent is set to share his entrepreneurial skills next month with the debut of The Money and the Power, his first MTV reality series.

The show will feature 14 aspiring moguls living together in a Brooklyn warehouse dubbed “Camp Curtis.” From there, the contestants must work together through a myriad of innovative challenges in hopes of honing their business acumen.

50’s right hand man Tony Yayo will serve as the show’s “Underboss,” making sure the show’s contestants remain in line and focused on the tasks at hand.

Even with the television’s wide variety of reality shows, 50 is confident that his series will transcend most shows and illuminate the hard work and sacrifice required to make in it the music business.

“If it was just my image, I wouldn’t have made this much money,” 50 stated bluntly of his business acumen and taste.

The show’s winner, who according to G-Unit head must possess the best combination of “business flair, strength, ambition, and fearlessness,” will be awarded a grand prize of $100,000 and assistance from 50 to help pursue their music dreams.

The show reveals another piece of 50’s planned media blitz in preparation for his fourth studio album and DVD Before I Self-Destruct, set for release on December 9.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Yung Berg Craps On Ne-Yo! DMX Is A New Father! Kanye Album Update!

DISCLAIMER:

All content within this section is pure rumor and generally have no factual info outside of what the streets have whispered in our ear. Read on.

TODAY’S RUMORS!

THE GAME MISSES A SHOW IN THE N.O.

A disappointed fan named Milele hit me up and told me something about a failed attempt to see The Game. Now Milele said that The Game has cancelled “another show” in New Orleans, disappointing his true fans. I guess he had previous engagements there and didn’t make it. There was quite a few people out there that actually bought tickets just to see him, and this represents the second time. I hope everything is OK with Game.

DMX HAS A NEW BABY

Lo and behold, DMX is a new father. Last week DMX’s “secret lover” had his child in Miami. DMX did the right thing and was there for the birth, even if it didn’t last very long. Soon after the baby’s birth, X went back to AZ to take care of all his pending charges and things of that nature. Hopefully, the Dog can get his act together now with a new child. I mean, it certainly sucks that its not his wife’s, but his wife isn’t exactly claiming him either.

KANYE WEST IS THE NEW T-PAIN?

I heard Kanye West’s new album is finished and it’s magnificent, from what I heard. That’s exactly what I heard – “magnificent.” Now the question is, how did this guy do it? I haven’t been privy to the pseudo-insider listening sessions or anything, but I’ve been informed that Ye indeed used the vocoder/autotune/voice box/T-Pain/Roger Troutman device on the whole CD. All I can say is I am interested.

FINALLY – JANET’S RUMORS COME TO AN END

I don’t know why they shroud this stuff in mystery so much. Janet Jackson and her camp have help fuel rumors of her being pregnant by offering no explanation for a series of missed concerts. Well I heard she has ended that to, according to People magazine. Janet suffers from migraines. The 42-year-old experiences what they call vestibular migraines, which cause vertigo. Vertigo is a fancy word for dizziness or imbalance. Now she knows how I feel everyday! Headaches and dizziness…ugh!

TRAVIS BARKER LETS IT BE KNOWN

There were a lot of rumors swirling that he and his ex-wife Shanna were getting back together in the aftermath of his fiery plane crash. NOT. Travis released a statement that directly countered a photo op and statement from Shanna.

Shanna Moakler said:

“There are not enough words to express how thankful we are for the outpouring of love and support we have received during this very difficult time. We can only ask for prayers as we heal and mourn the loss of our dear friends who we considered part of our family. Our lives will be changed forever.”

He said:

“Despite any rumors you might have heard via my ex-wife Shanna Moakler, who I have not seen since the week I checked in, I’ve been treated amazingly well, both here in L.A. and in Georgia. The hospitals I’ve been treated at are the best.”

SMH at her fakeness. That chick was recently seen with Gerard at the Hollywood restaurant just Monday.

YUNG BERG IS LASHING BACK AT NE-YO!!!!!

Y’all gonna make Yung Berg do something to ya! Check out how he goes at Ne-Yo. Its definitely about to get ugly.

Everybody should continue to grow down a lil bit. I need more rumors. Thanks, guys. Keep it coming.

LAST WEEK…MORE GUNS ON YOUTUBE

Zoe Mafia Family goes in on 40 Glocc for dissin Lil Wayne, blast Maino for slapping Yung Berg and Trick Trick for allegedly yappin’ Yung Bergs Chain. I don’t know where these dudes came from, but all I can say is I love everybody that has a gun and mad dogs. I didn’t put this up when it first came out, but I couldn’t resist since Berg came out with some more mess with Ne-Yo.

DID GUCCI MANE OD IN JAIL?

I got a word from a pretty good source in ATL that Gucci Mane might have OD’d in jail. You do know that he has been gone for a while and will be in the clink for the next 12 months. I hope this particular bit of information isn’t true. I know Nicki Minaj is a bit messed up with Gucci going up North (can you say that down south?). She has a song with him and now its rendered useless.

Here is a report from the Post Chronicle:

Rumors are circulating that Rapper Gucci Mane, real name Radric Davic, has died. Text messages were circulating this morning that Gucci Mane died while in Jail by a drug overdose. There are no real sources of this his death, and for the moment it’s just a rumor.

Rapper Gucci mane has been in and out of jail for many different charges. On May 10, 2005 Gucci was in a gun-fight at an exotic dancer’s house where soon he was arrested on a warrant involving the body of Macon, Georgian rapper Henry Lee Clark III (Pookie Loc) found that day near a public school in Decatur. Gucci claimed he was using his gun in self-defense. Gucci then turned himself in and charges of murder was dropped and Gucci faced probation. Last July, Gucci was arrested during a traffic stop when police found weed and a gun in his car.

Nevertheless, it has been more than a few hours since this rumor popped up so I am sure its wrong.

YES WE CAN – CHANGE THE WORLD!

I know people want me to rage against imperialism and all that stuff, but I support Barack Obama. I support him and others that hope to make change. If you don’t like Barack Obama, I recommend you get your lazy a$$ up and make a change. When you do, email me. I want to know what the “complainers” are doing other than complaining. I call them PC Revolutionaries or Inactivists. At any rate, I am down with Russell Simmons and DJ Green Lantern and their new mixtape.

MORE OBAMA RUMORS – ROYCE AND D12?

Royce and D12 getting all politically minded? I heard Royce Da 5’9”, Kuniva and Swifty of D12 are bout to record a Pro-Obama song. I don’t know when the song is slated to drop, but it would have to be any day now, right? D12 is also making a new mixtape that is supposed to drop before the end of the year. I could be totally off, but I heard they are going to be touring together…that’s probably old news.

CIARA GETS HER WIG PUSHED BACK?

All types of people are trying to release an album in December and Ciara may have to push her own wig back in for her new CD to move units. Here is what she had to say:

“As of now December 9th and if it gets pushed back it’s only because its so many great things I want to make sure I give you guys before you get the actual package in your hands.”

ILLSEED’S QUICKIES

DJ AM is already back in full effect. Man, this dude goes from a near death experience to touring with Jay-Z. Read it right here.

Beyoncé has blessed victims of Hurricane Ike with a personal donation of $100,000 to the Gulf Coast Ike Relief Fund. I think that’s a good look, better yet a hood look.

That supposedly “new” song wasn’t new by Dr. Dre. It was and old joint from a Snoop album.

Rumor has it, Jay-Z is looking to sign Daz of the Dogg Pound.

Wayne Brady is supposedly working on a rap CD. I don’t know about that.

What happened to Tru Life?

Ohhh…Ahhhh…you know how much I used to love Free. Well, I still do and you probably read this, but she’s working at Power 105.1 as co-host of the Ed Lover Morning Show now! YAY!

If you were looking for Terrence Howard to be in “Iron Man 2,” you can forget it. Don Cheadle will be replacing homey as Iron Man’s best friend. I heard talks with Howand and the movie house broke down over money.

MTV and CNN are working together for an event called BRAVE (Bill of Rights for American Veterans): A Night for Vets. Luda and 50 Cent will participate with live performances. Others will tape their shows for broadcast.

EPIC FAIL OF THE DAY

When you fall, you have to get up. Even if its on youtube and it takes a few minutes. GET UP! This girl Scarlet busts her ever-loving-tail while singing to a camera. If you are short on time, go to 2:45 in this piece. Whew…she got all kinds of Fail going on here.

That was a big, doozie. I hope Karma works in reverse for her sake.MORE TUPAC – A 1995 INTERVIEW

Hey, this is really interesting. Tupac talking…just talking. This interview took place in 1995, where he was on trial. Some fool tried to say his music made somebody kill a police officer.

SIGNS THE WORLD IS COMING TO AN END

Great. Just great. Just yesterday, I was telling you about NIBIRU in 2012. So happens, Barack Obama could be our president in 2012. Morgan Freeman has been portrayed as the president in “Deep Impact” – a Black president. Could this all be fiction scripting reality?

8 YEARS OF PAIN

C-Murder (Feat. The Tu, Klepto The ManI.A.C, LV, Fatzo Blac, Atlas, Cactus Jack, Frost, Hannibal, Adebisi, Tom Wood, Cuffs, Jason Lyric, Big Dyce, M-11 Spitta, & Sincere Sosa)

Here is the humorous side to this video. C-Murder has filed papers in court hoping to get his murder trial pushed back until after the elections. Here is the not-so-humorous side, the judge presiding over his case is running for reelection. You know how they do. They will be quick to make an example out of him! C-Murder is charged with killing 16-year-old Steve Thomas in 02.

THE HEARTBROKEN RACIST

This dude’s girlfriend broke up with him for a Black man and he runs over an innocent Black girl out of frustration and anger. Wow…really?

NORE GETS IN SHAPE

I think Nore lets himself get all big just so he can drop it off.

NOTHING NEW TO A REAL RAP FAN

This is the very first recording Jay-Z did on wax with Jaz-O. “HP gets Busy!”

NEW Q-TIP – “MOVE”

I’m about to create a new email account. I’m getting way too much non-rumor related junk to my inbox!
