Gangsta Rap Pioneer Lonzo Drops DVD On Compton Rap

West Coast Hip-Hop pioneer Lonzo Williams has released a new DVD detailing the rise of the Compton/Los Angeles rap scene, AllHipHop.com has learned.

Williams, who is often referred to as the “Godfather of West Coast Rap,” partnered with Dub Kris Media to produce the new documentary Once Upon A Time In Compton.

The new film follows the rise of the West Coast scene from its earliest moments from Williams’ privileged behind-the-scenes viewpoint as CEO of the influential label Kru Cut Records.

Before creating the World Class Wreckin’ Cru, which featured a young Dr. Dre and fellow N.W.A. member DJ Yella, Williams developed his career as a businessman and DJ.

His Eve After Dark nightclub was an integral part in the development of L.A.’s Hip-Hop culture, introducing such artists as Eazy-E, Ice Cube, and of course Dre.

In 1987, when the group was at its height, the World Class Wreckin Cru hit the national charts with the single “Turn Off the Lights.”

Combining his personal tale with vintage footage including Dre’s first gig as a DJ, Williams creates a story that few have told before.

As the man who introduced Eazy-E to his Ruthless Records partner Jerry Heller, Williams is able to provide insight into the creation and rise of N.W.A., bringing to the forefront other key players who have often been left out of rap history.

Once Upon A Time In Compton also portrays Lonzo Williams’ continuing presence and influence in Hip-Hop.

Once Upon A Time In Compton is available online at www.Amazon.com and www.FilmBaby.com.

Cory Gunz: The Best Kept Secret

In the Roc-A-Fella film Backstage, Jay-Z had a premonition. He said that somewhere out there there’s a kid sitting at breakfast, eating some Apple Jacks, writing some s**t. And that hungry young dude is going to be the next big thing in Hip-Hop. While one can argue Jay wasn’t speaking about anyone in particular, after hearing the demolition of  Lil Wayne’s “A Milli” beat, you can’t help but wonder if the “God MC’s” vision of a Hip-Hop golden child was the young Bronx native named Cory Gunz, son of rapper/ghostwriter Peter Gunz who, along side Lord Tariq, had everybody screaming “Uptown baby” with their hit song “Déjà Vu (Uptown Baby)” ten years ago. Suffice it to say, Cory grew up in Hip-Hop. After proving himself to be a potential monster in the rap game, Peter began mentoring Cory on the finer points of making songs. From 2005 to 2006 Cory began building his street buzz with a steady presence on the mixtape scene. After a brief hiatus he hit the ground running, delivering noteworthy tracks all over mixtapes and the Internet including the infamous “A Milli” freestyle. But even that’s no indication of what the future holds. So take a minute to familiarize yourself with your favorite MC’s dream MC, Cory Gunz.    AllHipHop.com: You were a fixture in the mixtape scene back in 2005. It was said that you were dealing with Tommy Mottola and people were hearing you a lot but after a while you kind of faded away. What happened? Cory Gunz: As far as Tommy, shout to Tommy Mottola first of all, he took me to Def Jam. He orchestrated the whole Def Jam move and sat me down with Jay so if anything, he was trying to help. In ’05 I was at the pinnacle. I had a crazy buzz in the streets and all he was trying to do was help. It was really me. I took kind of a hiatus because I was kind of turned off on the industry and the transition I felt it was taking. At the end of the day it’s all fun and I consider myself like one of the greatest at it and a genius can always find a way. So that’s what I’m doing right now, grinding.

“Shout to Wayne because that song gave me a chance to gain some notoriety.”

AllHipHop.com: With all the different file sharing sites, social networks, and digital labels coming out the Internet can be your best friend or your worst enemy. What part will it play in your movement?Cory Gunz: It’s going to play a real major part. The Internet has its ups and downs in the music industry. It kind of killed the whole going out and buying an album thing but people are still paying the same amount on iTunes for an album as they would in a store. So it’s all about finding a way and coming up with a scheme. Well, I wouldn’t even call it a scheme but, coming up with a way to promote yourself on the Internet. I look at the Internet as the biggest promotion tool in the world. On top of YouTube and MySpace and different things like that, anything is possible. People check those things everyday. There are actually record labels looking at people’s YouTubes and MySpace looking at their listens and views, seeing who’s paying attention to who to make their jobs easier. Who’s getting these views, who’s paying attention to that kid so if we put some money behind him he’s going to sell these records so we’ll be able to recoup? That’s all they’re thinking about. You just got to find a way man and if you’re a genius and you love the craft, and you’re as passionate about it as I am you’ll come up with something. Charles Hamtilton & Cory Gunz “Neh, Neh, Neh” VideoAllHipHop.com: I got the chance to speak with Square-Off, the rap group made up of Doug E. Fresh’s sons. Cory Gunz: Oh yeah, those are my n****s right there. AllHipHop.com: They said they had problems growing up because of people knowing who their father was. Did you experience any of that?Cory Gunz: At the end of the day, that’s crazy because everybody gets that. I call it like 75 percent hate. Well, I can even call it that. I call it like 65 percent hate because the majority of the people on my block and in my neighborhood coming up was my whole family. I have a big family and my family basically built this neighborhood that I grew up in. It had its perks, it was cool. Of course you had the haters, the cheesing and the fake friends but, it comes with the territory. Of course now it seems worse because people are automatically comparing me to my dad and I have to fill those shoes. And I know with Square-Off they have the same pressure. When your dad makes a mark in history so big and makes records like that that make history, well, I don’t call them records, I call them anthems. But it’s a lot of pressure to have to live up to something like that.Cory Gunz “Richer Than Richie” VideoAllHipHop.com: Given who you father is and the overall historical significance the Bronx has in Hip-Hop, do you feel any pressure when it comes to representing where you’re from?Cory Gunz: I love the Bronx, I keep the Bronx in my heart. The Bronx is always in my heart I’m going to rep the Bronx in my heart forever. But I’m a world artist. Well, let me not say world artist but if I do something like a down south track with a Bronx flow, you know that gritty, New York flow to it, it’s still me. Like, I’m trying to be bigger. I want to represent good music. And I’m not saying there’s not any good music out there, shout to everybody doing their thing right now, but I’m doing my thing trying to carve a certain lane so that’s really the pressure for me. AllHipHop.com: Speaking of carving your lane, what you did to the “A Milli” beat got a lot of people’s attention where some were saying your verse was better than Wayne’s. Did you ever receive any feedback from Wayne?Cory Gunz: I’m going to keep it all the way 100. Like, this is not for no controversy or to start no beef and I’m only saying it because we’re 100 percent on the record, but I haven’t heard from the homie since I sent him that verse. Shout to Wayne because that song gave me a chance to gain some notoriety. Shout out to every DJ that played my version and helped get that heard. That song definitely got me out there so there’s no beef. I know Wayne is busy and he’s doing his thing. I’m just focusing on doing Cory Gunz and getting me where I need to be. A Milli (Feat. Cory Gunz) – Cory GunzAllHipHop.com: So what are you working on?Cory Gunz: I’m working on some things. I got a lot of deals on the table. Labels have been quietly hollering at me but I got a lot of deals on the table and a few really, really good independent deals on the table too. But I’m going to keep making music. I got a couple mixtapes coming out, I got one with Square-Off, my Militia family got mixtapes coming out. We’re just going to keep making music.

“When you mention Jay-Z, Eminem, Nas, Luda, I want to be in that category. You can’t forget about the legends like BIG, Pac, and Pun, may they rest in peace, but I want to mentioned with them.”

AllHipHop.com: What’s your relationship with Shaquille O’Neal and how is he playing a part in your career?Cory Gunz: Shaq knew me before I knew me. When I say that I mean before I was even born, Shaq knew me. That’s my God dad so he’s always going to be there for me and I’m going to ride with Shaq to the death. But yeah, that’s my family for real. AllHipHop.com: When it comes to Hip-Hop, some do it for the money, some do it for the fame, few still do it for the love. Why do you do it?Cory Gunz: I’ve been saying this since I was young. I want to be one of the best. Like in somebody’s top five of all time. Like when you mention Jay-Z, Eminem, Nas, Luda, I want to be in that category. You can’t forget about the legends like BIG, Pac, and Pun, may they rest in peace, but I want to mentioned with them. Body Bags – Cassidy ft. Cory GunzAllHipHop.com: Is there anything else you want people to know?Cory Gunz: DJ’s and everybody can hit me up on the MySpace, Myspace.com/cgunz174. I check it myself so hit me up if you want to get at me. Also, shout out to AllHipHop too because y’all been rocking with me from the beginning.

Trick Trick Teams With Kid Rock, Eminem, Dre On New LP

Detroit rapper Trick Trick will make his long-awaited return next month, with the release of his sophomore effort and Koch Records debut, The Villain.

The album, which features a veritable who’s who of Detroit rap and appearances by several Hip-Hop luminaries, hits stores on October 28.

In addition to Trick Trick, who produced a majority of the tracks, The Villain includes production contributions from Eminem and Dr. Dre, who crafted a total of four songs on the project.

Also appearing on the release are Detroit rappers Royce da 5’9, Esham, Guilty Simpson, Eminem, Trick’s brother Diezel and Ice Cube, who guests on the album’s lead single “Let It Fly” alongside Lil’ Jon.

The album also features a duet with popular rock/rapper Kid Rock who pops up on the Run-DMC remake “Together Forever” with a posthumous Proof of D12.

“I wanted to do what I felt good about, not chase after the times,” Trick said of the album. “Each track is designed for its texture of song, texture of writing. Music is eternal, so I might have a song that is rotten as f***, and there’s a point to it. I’m making a statement. I wanted to make music that I feel good about, to bring some real music back to the game.”

The Villain comes three years after the release of his debut album The People vs., which landed at the top of Billboard’s New Artist Chart on its first week out, propelled by the Eminem assisted single “Welcome to Detroit.”

Since then, Trick Trick, born Christian Mathis, has kept busy in the world of business, inking an endorsement deal with the Cintron Beverage Group and working with several downtown Detroit nightclubs, including the controversial Plan B.

Trick Trick is currently developing a new grape lemonade-flavored energy drink called G-Punch, which will be released through Cintron.

He also has an upcoming role in the new movie Cut, Print, touted as the first reality horror movie.

Knockout Nation: Marquez Stops Casamayor! Guzman Pulls It Out Against Campbell! Bradley Shines, Max Baer Remembered

Marquez Wins Linear Title with 11th Round Stoppage, Forrest Gets Revenge

Juan Manuel Marquez made an emphatic statement last Saturday (September 13) in his first lightweight fight, outsmarting a focused Joel Casamayor to win the linear RING title.

As a former feather and super-featherweight titlist, Marquez was cautious early on about exchanging with the naturally larger and sharp counterpunching Casamayor.

In rounds one and two, Casamayor utilized stinging left counters to the head and body that kept the challenger at bay offensively.

That trend continued in rounds three and four as Marquez continued to struggle with Casamayor’s awkward stick and move style.Defensively, Casamayor was superb in these early rounds by forcing the normally accurate Marquez to miss with feints, upper body movement, and footwork. Due to this, the future Mexican Hall of Famer had to abandon his excellent combination punching in hopes of landing eye-catching single shots.

The gamble paid off in round five as Juan Manuel found a rhythm behind his favorite weapon, the right hand.

As Casamayor slowed down slightly, Marquez was able to strafe him with repeated right counters to the face which helped open up a cut above the champion’s right eye.

Marquez maintained a slight advantage in the middle rounds as Casamayor was now tiring and lunging forward with his attacks. This finally allowed the challenger to land combinations on the inside and further debilitate Casamayor.

Moving towards the decisive championship rounds, Marquez asserted complete control with rattling hook combinations to the body and head. While game, Casamayor was finding himself being countered three times in return for every punch he threw. With the fight close due to Casamayor’s early lead, Marquez stormed out for the eleventh round determined not to let the judges decide his fate and see a repeat of the second Pacquiao fight.

He forced hard exchanges throughout the round, and finally caught Casamayor with a perfect overhand right counter on the inside with less than a minute remaining.

The Cuban stumbled and crashed on the sit of his pants, shocked from the speed and accuracy of the shot. Ever the warrior, Casamayor made it up quickly but remained disoriented from the punch.

Marquez immediately rained in with punches that knocked Casamayor into the ropes. Another pinpoint right hand dropped him to end matters with just five seconds left in the round.

The exciting win puts Marquez among the elite lightweights in the division, but does not make him the undisputed champ until he settles matters with the man who holds the majority of the titles, Nate Campbell.

And although Marquez would be willing to fight Campbell, it’s likely he’ll look for a more lucrative showdown with fellow Mexican star Juan Diaz.

On the undercard, former undisputed champion Vernon Forrest redeemed his abysmal performance against Sergio Mora by totally outclassing his younger foe in their rematch.

Unlike the first fight, Forrest throughout the bout kept Mora at the end of his jab and right hand to cruise to lopsided scores of 119-108, 118-109, and 117-110.

In the early rounds, Mora was confined to sporadic offensive outburst as he was wary of Forrest’s right hand. Also not helping was Forrest’s repeated clubbing body shots that served the Atlanta native well down the stretch.

In the seventh, Forrest caught a reckless Mora with a cracking uppercut that was ruled a knockdown after Mora fell into the ropes.

The latter rounds did not change Mora’s luck, as he ate numerous overhand rights and stiff jabs to close out his evening.

Afterward, Mora blamed his listless performance on coming in overweight at 156 pounds and having to drop two pounds in a vigorous late workout to make weight.

With the win, Vernon Forrest regains the 154 pound WBC title and improves to 41-3, 29 KOs. Sergio Mora suffers his first loss and falls to 21-1-1, 5 KOs.

Joan Guzman Fails to Make Weight, Cancels Bout

The other exciting lightweight bout from last Saturday was not meant to be, due to challenger Joan Guzman failing to make weight and pulling out of his WBA, IBF, and WBO title bout with champion Nate Campbell.

Guzman reportedly came into camp weighing 166 pounds, well exceeding the 135 pound lightweight limit. There are also rumors that Guzman did not sufficiently train during the last few crucial weeks to get his body in fighting shape.

At the weigh in, Guzman came in at nearly 139 pounds and was given two hours to shed the weight.

Unfortunately, less than two hours before the Showtime telecast Guzman called off the fight, stating he was coughing up blood and on doctor’s orders felt he could not fight without endangering his life.

Expect Guzman to be heavily fined and suspended for his actions. I don’t begrudge him for not fighting (the last thing boxing needs is someone else killed in the ring), but it’s completely unacceptable if the rumors of him slacking off in training are true.

Still, Joan Guzman should be allowed to give his side before the boxing community crucifies him.

Nate Campbell feels no blame can be put on him, as he was willing to go ahead and face Guzman at whatever weight he could make.

“I did all that I could to make it happen,” a disappointed Campbell stated shortly after the cancellation was made public. “I said I’d fight him no matter what he’d weigh in at. At the end of the day, I thought it was important to me to make the fight stay together.”

Stay tuned for more on the fallout of this story next week.

Timothy Bradley Steps Up, Dominates Edner Cherry

Formerly the undercard, titlist Timothy Bradley and Edner Cherry found themselves thrust into the Showtime main event for the WBC 140 pound title. Bradley was unfazed, and outboxed the limited by dangerous Cherry to retain his title.

Throughout the first three rounds Bradley deftly boxed Cherry off the backfoot with triple jabs and counter rights to build a solid lead.

Cherry made his first mark in round four with a jarring left hook that momentarily stunned Bradley. While the champion continued throwing, Cherry’s aggression and body attack secured him his first clear round.

Undeterred, Bradley picked up his offense in rounds five, six, and seven by focusing his shots to the body to slow down Cherry’s pressure.

The strategy worked perfectly, as now Cherry was the one backpedaling and trying in vain to score potshot points.

In round eight, Bradley slipped a lazy jab and floored Cherry with a massive right counter to the face. The iron-chinned Cherry was more dejected than hurt, and survived the remaining minute left in the round.

The championship rounds saw Bradley continue to dominate the action and smartly maintained good defensive upper body movement whenever Cherry attacked with desperate lunging shots.

Final scorecards for the bout read 117-110, 118-109, and 119-109.

With back to back impressive victories over Junior Witter and Edner Cherry, expect Timothy Bradley to be right in line to face the winner of the November Ricky Hatton-Paulie Malignaggi bout.

Throwback Fighter of the Week: Max Baer

The word “colorful” doesn’t even begin to describe the antics of former world heavyweight champion Max Baer.

Dabbling in acting, entertainment, and many celebrity women on the side, Baer still found time in his full schedule to devastate heavyweights with his powerful right hand. A little into his first year as a pro, Baer killed fellow fighter Frankie Campbell in a brutal 1930 bout. So powerful were Baer’s shots that doctors concluded Campbell died when his brain had been knocked loose from the connective tissue inside his head. Baer was acquitted of manslaughter but performed poorly in losing four of his next six fights before being counseled by legend Jack Dempsey.

Baer went on to post a signature 10th round knockout over fellow Hall of Famer Max Schmeling in 1933. Due to Schmeling’s ties with Nazi Germany’s Adolf Hitler, the win made the Jewish Baer a star among the Jewish community and helped lead to a title shot the following year against Primo Carnera.

The 6’8, 275 pound Carnera dwarfed the 6’2 Baer physically, but not in fighting spirit. The fight was a mismatch, as a laughing and clowning Baer beat Carnera around the ring in route to an 11th round TKO.

However, Baer loved the nightlife more than the title, and immediately dropped the belt in his first defense to the “Cinderella Man” James Braddock in one of boxing history’s biggest upsets.

Baer faced a young Joe Louis in his next bout, engaging in a shootout before the superior Louis chopped him down in the fourth round.

Baer would fight on for another six years and gained one more memorable win against fellow slugger Tony Galento with an 8th round stoppage. In a fight dubbed “The Battle of the Bums,” both audibly clowned and cursed each other round after round before Baer emerged victorious. He retired in 1941.

The affable former champ remained very popular and continued acting until a sudden heart attack took him away at age 50 in 1959.

Max Baer is a member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame and his final record stands at 68-13, 52 KOs.

Louis-Baer Postfight Interview

Ice-T Signs On As Spokesman For Internet TV Service

Hip-Hop icon Ice-T has signed on to be the spokesman for Open Visions Networks, a cutting-edge service aimed at bringing cable TV completely online.

The project was put in motion two years ago by three young, ambitious, inner-city entrepreneurs: Sherman “Doc” Bell, Jae “Nasdaq” Swanston, and Leroy Gordon.

Instead of watching content from a website, users run software from the Open Vision Networks site that creates a television network of channels right on their media player.

“At the initial meeting I was blown away when these guys showed me what they were working on,” Ice told AllHipHop.com. “Me being an Internet cat myself, I’ve always tried to be on the edge of the tech sh*t. When I got the details I realized, ‘man this is no bullsh*t’”

By recreating an authentic online television experience, the company hopes to carve their niche by differentiating themselves from big name competition.

“With us, we put the power back in the hands of the creators,” co-founder Jay Swanston explained. “We are not like Youtube or any of those streaming websites that calls each user account a channel. Myspace, Hulu, and Youtube are not based on niche content allowing the user to make money. All you do is upload on their site and make them and their advertisers money. We have music, independent and major studio movies, even Bollywood. Our main focus is to grow the libraries of content where subscribers get what they want. So if someone likes stand-up comedy 24-7, they could go to say, channel 80.”

The budding company hopes to revolutionize the way television content is presented.

Ice-T and wife Coco will retain their very own channels, focusing on original content specific to their interests.

While Coco will undoubtedly feature sultry videos related to her modeling career, Ice-T is set on releasing his entire back catalogue of videos and music through his channel.

“What I’ll do with Ice TV is put a lot of back catalogue stuff that I’ve had over the years,” Ice explained. “There could possibly be legal problems, but I really don’t care. I really don’t see them coming after me. There’s still money coming in for the old stuff, but I’m not gonna ask anyone, I’m just gonna do it.”

OVN TV is currently free and available in 109 countries around the globe.

New users can visit www.ovntv.com to subscribe and experience the service.

The brand is set to offer Hi-Def channels by early 2009.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Eminem Scraped Album? Talk About R. Kelly! Hillary To Be Vice President?

DISCLAIMER:

All content within this section is pure rumor and generally have no factual info outside of what the streets have whispered in our ear. Read on.

TODAY’S RUMORS!

Hardy har har…I messed up the rumors yesterday and they came out all late. People act like I put them up late on purpose. They must not know the schedule I keep, do they?

Click here for the other rumors and some god aweful pics of Amy Winehouse!

R.KELLY…DID HE PASS THE TEST?First if all, who saw R. Kelly on BET last night? I almost boycotted it, but I watched at the last minute.  I know Kellz was deemed not guilty, but he had guilt all over the place in that interview. Mind you, not guilty is not the same as innocent. Get it right. But, there was a moment where Kelly mentioned having 19 year old “friends” and questioned what a teenager was. That was a very telling moment. Toure looked a lil funny, but that might have been editing. It seemed like T was on the edge, ready to pounce, but couldn’t because he was being held back. Nevertheless, I personally know certain things and my opinion stands as mine. What did you think?!!?!LONG LIVE THE PIED PIPER! WILL SMITH IS NOT A SCIENTOLOGIST!

Just because my boy Will Smith is the biggest thing in Hollywood, you think he’s the new Tom Cruise. Well, I have news for you: he’s not. As you know, he recently founded a school in LA and they have one of the programs of Scientology’s study programs. At a recent appearance, he dropped a bomb. Will reportedly stated emphatically that he is NOT Scientologist. Now what do ya have to say protesters?

VICE-PRESIDENT HILLARY CLINTON!!!!!?????

With all this Palin stuff going on, it maybe time for desperate measures. Read what I got from my homey Jerome.

According to a an exclusive source close to the Northeast Intelligence Network, the possibility exists for a major change to the Democrat presidential campaign of Barack Obama. Our source, citing other highly reliable sources, states that Senator Joe Biden will withdraw as the Democrat Vice-Presidential candidate, possibly due to some imminent medical emergency. These sources go on to state that negotiations have occured between Barack Obama and Bill Clinton to replace Senator Biden on the ticket with Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton.

With time drawing short to election day and given the tremendous impact to the presidential race by Republican Vice-Presidential candidate Sarah Palin, a potential political paradigm shift of this magnitude is not out of the question. Recent commentary by Senator Biden suggesting that Hillary should have been Obama’s VEEP nominee might actually betray a Democrat strategy which has been forming within the DNC in recent days to preclude what appears at this point to be a potential electoral defeat at the polls on November 4, 2008.

I can’t lie…I wouldn’t even be mad at this.

NO BEEF BETWEEN ZRO AND TRAE

Ever since Trae cold busted Mike Jones, all has been quiet in H-Town. Now, here is the latest. There is an interview on the web saying ZRo was saying the fight with Mike and Trae was a bad look. Well, any Johnny Come Lately’s that think there is beef, I am here to tell you there is none, The two men have already talked and they have ended any friction.

DEDICATED TO SARAH PALIN

I was reluctant to put this up, but I have to be fair. My homey sent me this song about Sarah Palin. It’s called “I Wanna Lay Your Pipeline” by John Brown.

here’s the link

How cool is is that Barack was ridiculed for, among other things, being a celebrity and Sarah Palin is now the new rock star. Shout out to Bazooka Charlie.

Moving along to the news I’ve gotten word that Joe Buddens album The Padded Room has been pushed back to February 28th.  The reason why? Complications with the physical product! I’m not to sure what the hell that means but I’m sure it label lingo for …’Sh*t aint ready’ In any event if your a die hard Budden fan (like most new jersians are including myself) you can check out his digital album titled  The Halfway House which comes out on Oct 28th under Joe’s own digital label Amalgam Digital.  The album will feature 14 tracks and can be purchased at www.amalgamdigital.com.  In response to his album release failure Joe had this to say in a recent statement: ‘Though I’m not happy about it being pushed so far back, I do understand the method behind the madness. We’ve got an album I’m extremely proud of and a lead single that Amalgam Digital and I are both very happy with, but for those of you who are just as anxious as I am, I apologize.’  The original release date of Joe Buddens album was October 28th! Another Day Another Reality Show… Irv Gotti Gets Renewed by VH1 Well it’s about damn time! I love drama almost as much as I love my mama (if you catch me in between some juicy drama maybe more) and I’m so excited that Irv Gotti’s reality show ‘Gotti’s Way’ has been renewed for another season!  The new season will pick up where the old show left off with Irv and his (estranged… just JK) Deb trying to work through their marital issues.  The show will also continue to follow Irv’s journey to reclaim his empire Murder Inc and take over hip hop once again.  While I’m not too interested in Irv trying to salvage a dream deferred I am more than ecstatic to see him and Deb try to work out their personal issues in the open! Hell I need something to draw me in! If your just as big a fan as I am check out the second season when it premieres on Nov.3rd!  While I’m on Comebacks… Diahann Carroll Puts Sidney on Blast! Now I know we are a hip hop site but everyone knows Diahann Carroll for my older heads she was the mother in the 70’s super film ‘Claudine’ and for my younger cats she played Whitley’s’ mother on ‘A Different World’ So know that we are all on one accord… To the Juice: Whoever said classy chicks always take the high road is a bold face liar! Dihann Carroll is coming out with a memoir and she has no bad mouthing well respected actor Sidney Poitier and his relationship woes when it came to her! Peep below via nypost.comIn her new memoir, “The Legs Are the Last to Go,” Diahann Carroll – the Bronx-born beauty who made history as TV’s first black sitcom star in “Julia” – portrays Poitier as a heel who convinced her and first hubby Monte Kay to divorce after confronting Kay, saying he loved Carroll and was splitting from his wife to be with her. She writes: “Sidney called me at my hotel . . . ‘You b####, w####, tramp,’ he yelled. ‘I know he just left your bed. I won’t have you running around with other men. You belong to me!’ “ Things got worse when, she says, Poitier told her he’d finally called it quits with his wife, Juanita Hardy, bought her a ring, and had her decorate a 10-room Riverside Drive apartment he’d bought. “I was only home a few days when he called to say his wife was having second thoughts. Our wedding plans would have to be postponed,” Carroll writes. “When the apartment was ready and I was about to move my daughter in with me, Sidney told me he didn’t want her there . . . He changed the locks so I couldn’t get in. Then he made me write him a check to offset his purchase and decorating costs. I did as I was told, submissive and desperate.” Man the Superhead movement just won’t die! Even oldies but goodies are getting a piece of the pie! While ya’ll playing Imma go get a copy asap! Eventhough I’m a little weary about the title… Talk about subliminal messages 😉 Lady Drama’s Food For Thought: Who is Illseed tryna fool, Rumors were late due to Twitter updates every 5 seconds! Anyone who hasn’t hopped on the twitter bandwagon make it happen! It’s the biggest movement since registering to vote for the upcoming election! I hear Nate Dogg is in stable condition! Keep pushing… you and your family are in my prayers! Floyd Mayweather is slowly becoming a Reggaeton artist… That’s like Milli Vanilli trying to sing live, it just won’t work!  Swizz and Mashonda are still legally married… Who knew! Whats the hold up we know it aint FINANCIAL! Love me or Leave me Alone… But if you can’t say anything nice about someone then come sit by me!

Alicia Keys Lands James Bond Theme Song

Grammy Award winning songstress Alicia Keys has secured her place in movie history with a new theme song on the forthcoming soundtrack to the new James Bond film, Quantum of Solace.

The track, titled “Another Way To Die,” will feature Keys singing alongside White Stripes frontman Jack White, in what will be the first duet in Bond soundtrack history.

According to Quantum of Solace producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, the collaboration comes as an added plus for James Bond fans and moviegoers.

“We are delighted and pleased to have two such exciting artists as Jack and Alicia, who were inspired by our film to join together their extraordinary talents in creating a unique sound for Quantum of Solace,” the pair said in a statement.

With the duet, Keys joins Tina Turner, Duran Duran, Sheena Easton and Madonna as artists who have been recruited over the years to provide the theme to Bond films.

The singer, who successfully made the transition to film with roles in Smokin’ Aces and The Nanny Diaries, is set to appear in front of the camera for her upcoming film, The Secret Life of Bees.

The feature, which also stars Queen Latifah, Dakota Fanning and Jennifer Hudson, is scheduled to be released on Oct. 17.

Written and produced by White, “Another Way to Die,” will be included on the soundtrack to Quantum of Solace, which is slated to hit stores on Oct. 28.

The Marc Forster-directed MGM feature stars Daniel Craig as James Bond.

Quantum of Solace, the 22nd film in the James Bond series, will arrive in theaters in November.

JAY-Z AND JADAKISS: COWBOYS FANS?

I know that I better be wrong about this one. I am hearing that both Jay-Z and Jadakiss are really big fans of the Dallas Cowboys. Now, I just know that everybody is a fan of the Philly Eagles. Whats wrong with these two. On top of it all, I heard Jay-Z flew Jadakiss way out to the game last night. WHAT’S THAT ALL ABOUT! Philly fans are sick with it right now since the game was lost. We beat ourselves with that stupid fumble. TO is going to cry again this year. Mark my words!

KANYE WEST CHANGES “LOVE LOCKDOWN”

There has been an almost rabid amount of discussion over Kanye’s new single. People have learned to love it or people have learned to hate it. I don’t know who got to Kanye, but he’s officially going to change “Love Lockdown.” He left the following message on his blog at kanyeuniversecity.com.

“Your prayers have been answered!! There’s a new version of love Love Lockdown coming. We used new taiko drums and I re-sung it… it’s being Mastered now….”

On a side note, Kanye spoke to a rumor that I had been hearing for quite some time: That there will be aggressive usage of the vocoder (autotune) on this album. He had this to say about that:

“Sidebar… if you don’t like autotune… too bad cause I love it and have been using it since the College Dropout!!!”

It sounds like he wants to let it be known that he was using it longer than T-Pain.

WHAT FEMALE RAPPER…?

I cannot say who. This is to spare the well being of one person I know in particular. But a pair of associates of a well-known female rapper are thinking about “exploring the options” on this artist. Why? I heard two associates (a male and a female) were accosted in one-way or another. I heard the female is seven months pregnant and claims that the rap mistress almost ran her and her unborn baby over. Apparently, the rapper departed a venue recently, because she was not permitted to perform. The male said something to said rap artist and the rapper allegedly threatened that body guards would beat him down. I heard he backed off. I didn’t put names in here, but I can almost promise you…I am just delaying that which is probably going to come out. That’s without a doubt.

FLO RIDA DOESN’T SHOW, BUT HELL DOES…

Now, I want to make sure this is clear. I was told people don’t think this is Flo Ridah’s fault, but still want some answers if they are available.

This all went down this past weekend at San Carlos, Sonora.

This guy, who owns a basketball team at Guaymas, Mexico tried to put on a show at a beach resort in San Carlos. It was supposed to be a “celebrity basketball game” what would include stars like Chris Webber, Jason Richardson and Tommy “The Hitman” Hearns. Also, at 7:00 pm Flo Rida and some local groups would perform.

Everything that day went on without a problem, until it was time for Flo Rida to rock. He wasn’t at the venue and there was grumblings that it was all over money. Well, the people at the place lost their minds. They wanted their Flo Rida! And they let it be known. They threw all sorts of stuff at the stage including rocks, beer bottles, bras…well I added that bra stuff. But, you get the message. After a while, things calmed down a bit, but it wasn’t over. Later that night, a mob of about 100 people showed up to where the organizers and local rap groups were staying. A gigantic fight broke out and even some gunshots were let off. Thankfully, nobody was shot. The friend of my homeboy wasn’t lucky though. He was hit by a car and broke a few of his ribs. I’m hearing most of the blame is going to the promoters.

I heard a similar event was avoided with Pitbull. Only thing is Pitbull rocked for a few minutes to avoid the mayhem.

SPEAKING OF PITBULL…

One of my favorite people in the field reported something back to me. They saw Pitbull out and about and said:

So Pitbull was at the Elephant Bar in Sacramento tonight. Ee was at a booth sitting in a corner booth in the back. People were taking pictures and some were walking past him. Eventually, he left in a long white van with tints. He was flanked by a buff black dude and a big a$$ buff Hispanic. Hos were talking and they almost pa$$ed out at the sight of Pitbull. Ee took a few pics outside, then left. He didn’t impress me as a nice person in the flesh. I did not approach him since I am not a Pitbull fan. I really did not care, but how he was acting towards other folks was shady.

Maybe he was p##### that a shady promoter didn’t pay him?

LIL’ WAYNE ENDORSES NELLY?

Why does Nelly need Lil Wayne to big him the hell up?!

What the hell!? Did somebody say, “Hey, this will make people buy Nelly more?” Did he get a check for this commerical? Nelly can stands on his own!, he’s multiplat!

FOXY BROWN EXPLAINS MISSED APPEARANCE!

Here is what she told DJ Envy on Hot 97 about her missed appearance at BB King’s in NYC!

We got there at 11,” she added. “I want people to know, we have a contractual agreement with B.B. King’s that my time to be on stage, my time to perform was 11:30. I arrive at the venue at 11:05. When I arrive they told me they shut everything down. Melle Mel was on stage. Grandmaster Flash was on stage. Michael Bivins was on stage. They shut them down. My good friend Nicole Bell, Sean Bell’s wife, was there. They shut her down. They made 800 people leave and people were upset, rightfully so. They came out to see me.That was a heartbreaking experience. B.B. King’s had asked me to perform when I came home from jail and I thought it would be an incredible situation to turn it into a ‘Foxy Brown and Friends’,” she explained via telephone. “The perception of Foxy Brown is like, you know, that I’m by myself and I don’t really have too many friends in the music business and it’s actually the opposite.

ILLSEED’S QUICKIES

Michael Jackson has moved near an elementary school in Las Vegas and the parents are reportedly upset.

Did Kanye West propose to Alexis again? Rumor has it!

Def Jef. I thought I would say that. Def Jef.

They are reporting that 50 Cent got financial advice from Robert DeNiro on the sets of “Righteous Kill.” Based on the reviews, they should have swapped advice on acting.

Master P is getting crazy with it. I heard he is all set to deliver BBTV (Better Black TV) in January. I guess he will never be on BET again.

Republican Women have reportedly decided to boycott Oprah Winfrey’s, because she won’t have Sarah Palin on the show before the election. After her appearance on ABC, do they really want to get her on TV in front of her base of women?

They better leave Stevie alone! Rumors are circulating that a former background singer for Stevie Wonder is going to write a Superhead-like book. Man…they bet’ not! I cut fools for Mr. Wonder.

Kelis expects to sue police after a judge cleared her of charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Get that money, ma!

MTV has decided to cancel TRL. Watch your back Terrance and Rocsi!!!

RANDOM QUOTES

50 Cent throws Kanye a bit of support:

“I hope he’s all right… He’s gonna pay for that. I hope everything works out for him because, away from you having to pay your bail money and then you have to go through your legal fees and you have to go through the civil trial.”

Some advice from Denzel Washington:

“Don’t be a hater. Don’t let hatred destroy you. Overcome it, move on, educate them, if you will.”

SIGNS THE WORLD IS COMING BACK TO THE END

I swear. Man, I have one good day and another horrible day. We’ve all heard there was a cure for AIDS. But now I am thinking seriously that there is. Why? Because somebody send me definitive information that the government has the cure. I can’t reveal where or how, but just that the info is authentic – as I see it. Now, as a doctor sees it, I don’t know. Here is a bit of the info from a device capable of “firing electrons capable of electrocuting the AIDS virus.” I can’t even call it, but I know about 23 million people have died of AIDS. That’s not counting the people with HIV.

Here is another sign I got from CNN: The Dow ends nearly 500 points lower — its worst point drop in more than seven years — as bank woes scare investors.

SHELZ ARBITRARY MOMENTS

Wherever Cam’Ron just came from, he might want to go back. Take it away Big (Mad) Joe.

Hell Rell Has Something to Say About Dipset Too.

Dude pretty much said the happenings over at the Dip spot were a bit slow for him. He said the sitting and waiting were not good and other execs/artists were more concerned with their own stuff than his. He felt the crew was selfish and he needed to move on so he could get some stuff cracking. His desire is to work, not to join up with Broken Equipment trying to figure out, “Where is Cam’Ron?” The dude proclaimed his freedom, sighting contractual obligations to no one and is looking to alternate paths to promote and sell his music.

Please don’t let the above deflate your balloons, Dipset fans. When you are feeling bad, just remember Dame Dash said Jim Jones is the future of Hip Hop.

50 Cent Is Re-launching G-Unit Clothing.

I know you can’t wait. Now we all know what to get you for Christmas. 50 and Marc Ecko are going to give it another shot. But with LL claiming Sears and Master P having Wal-Mart on lock down, I’m not sure what outlet is going to have him. I for one can’t wait. When those t-shirts and hoodies went on sale a year ago at Dr. J’s, I loaded up. Everything was like $10 a piece. My kid is going to be rep’n G-Unit until he’s 30.

Pics from Behind the Wall.

I must admit, I’m an avid reader of Prodigy’s blog. I don’t always agree. I don’t always understand. The Hov and Budden references irritate me at times, but I love Mobb Deep. When I was on his site earlier, I yanked this pic down. It gets no more incarcerated than this.

Later folks…….

MY GOD: SAVE AMY WINEHOUSE!

This chick looks like she is going on 100! Somebody save her…or at least lock her up! I can’t stand to look at ther like this.

Man…I emptied my stomach. Where is her label? Parents? Friends? Family? This person is a damn zombie! AIDS = Amy Is Dying Slowly. Call me a jerk, call me an a$$, but I’m a fan and this woman is not well!!!!!! Save her – I want to see her live a long life!

How did this get past me? This video is hilarious! click here to see it. Shout out to Shad and Canada. Love the creativity, dude!

AYO! THE “SOFT” 50 CENT

I know 50 Cent has cracked some jokes on Kanye, but lets not forget he did this song called “Ayo Technology.” Well some dude named Milow has taken his acoustic guitar and remixed it with a soft rock twang…same lyrics.

After listening…this might be fresher than the Timbaland/Timberlake version. LOL!

FREESTYLE 101: PLANET ASIA

LADY DRAMA…SHE LAMENTS!Get Well Nate Dogg…. West Coast artist and legend Nate Dogg has suffered another stroke.  This is Nate Doggs second stroke within ten months and according to trusted media outlets he’s not on the up and up.  At the moment he’s in serious condition and unable to breathe on his own.  For those not aware Nate Dogg suffered from a stroke back in December which paralyzed his whole left side. Our hearts and prayers are with Nate Dogg for a speedy recovery! There’s an Order to Everything.. And The Nominees are: The Bet noms are in less than a week after the press release of the host was announced! Are there really the same five rappers in every category? I don’t know read for yourself and see if I stuck my foot in my mouth for the umpteenth time 😉 – Lil Wayne gets 12 noms including but not limited to: Best Hip Hop Video, Best Live Performer, and Lyricist of the Year   -Kanye rounds it out with 7 nominations (TBA) -Jay-Z gets 6 Nominations (TBA) -Best Hip Hop Video’s include: Kanye West, Common, David Banner, Lil Wayne, DJ Khaled, and Snoop Dogg. -Russell Simmons will be receiving the coveted ‘I Am Hip Hop’ Icon Award which will showcase his enormous contribution to hip hop! So I wasn’t that far off but come one Lil Wayne has 12 nominations, he has to be featured in like 9 out of 10 categories, along with Jay and Kanye! It seems like a replay of last years show, are they the only composition of hip hop for 07-08? I’m confused On a lighter note…..Has the Whole World Gone Drawerless? Video Vixen Angel Lola Love hosted the 2008 Back 2 School Extravaganza in Albany, NY. For some reason she thought her skirt was exempt from u###### photo’s cause here her backyard is caught wide open in the nude! Wow! I know you guys prob. saw this yesterday but I’m trying to get on you all’s good side in the event that Illseed does take a vacation… so I thought I’d run it back for your viewing pleasure;-) Ladies I got ya’ll soon as an opportunity presents itself lol! [Illseed note: that don’t look right. Bad grammar was needed to punctuate that.] Swizz Beatz says Fall BACK… Alicia is not to Blame! I have something I must say ’bout this Swizz Beatz statement on his “friend” Ms. Keys.   Alicia must of ripped a new one in that ass! Ish is unacceptable! Not for nothing but I hear Mashonda was at the Baby Phat Fashion show and looked an emotional wreck! Too bad some of us carry it all in our face huh? Poor thing! Looked like a pretty happy home a couple months ago but… LOOKS CAN BE DECEIVING!  Speaking of pointing the finger… TI Sets the record straight… He Aint no Deadbeat Dad TI released a mini statement today about the allegations his baby mother Lashon Dixon have been throwing out about his child support woes! Peep this: “To clarify the recent reports, in addition to the $2000 per month I pay in cash to Lashon Dixon, the mother of my sons Domani and Messiah, I also pay for their private schooling, medical insurance, clothing, food, gifts, birthdays and extracurricular activities. Their extra-curricular activities have included football, basketball, baseball, acting lessons, summer camp, and any other activities that they express a desire to be involved in that will contribute to them leading balanced lives and developing into well rounded individuals. I have also made an attempt to help Lashon with additional payments that have included a down payment to purchase her home, purchase of an automobile for her transportation and other financial obligations.” Well damn Lashon their goes our Neiman Marcus shopping spree 😉 Lady Drama’s Food For Thought: Illseed may still have achance to bag Kelly I hear the cream to her coffee was spotted getting cozy with another chick on the low! But then again who wants sloppy seconds? Tevin Campbell (Mr.Can We Talk) is set to make a comeback… Didn’t you have to have some prior burn to actually make a comeback? What exactly is he coming back to a string of one hit wonders? Jennifer Hudson and Patti Labelle locked lips at a current event! SMH at anyone who’s actually turned on by that! There’s always some type of standard for girl on girl action!  I’m out folks… Love me or Leave me alone! PEACE! ISN’T MARIAH PRETTY?

Rye Rye: The Rebirth of Booty

At 17, Baltimore’s Rye Rye is in her final year of high-school, but she’s already a graduate of the place from where she got her real education: the club. Growing up in a city known worldwide for it’s home-grown brand of dance music, it’s only natural that Rye Rye would absorb the beats into her blood. She’s not some encyclopedia of records that she memorized after digging in crates and surfing the net; the music is such a part of her that she can barely articulate what her favorite tracks are when pressed. She tentatively rattles off “Hands Up, Thumbs Down” and a few other classics, but gives up quickly.“There’s so much old-school club music that I used to listen to that I don’t even know the names,” she explains, laughing to herself. Her knowledge doesn’t come from compilations she copied from a friend’s laptop. She was taught about music by DJs who provided an ever changing, hours long stream of music that skipped her mind and went straight into her soul. It’s no wonder then that practically overnight, she went from one of a hundred girls dancing in the club to the little sister of the Mad Decent crew, getting love from Perez Hilton and rhyming on tracks from Diplo and Blaqstarr. Before even having an album, she was invited to join with M.I.A. while she traveled and got her BA in World Tours. During her apprenticeship with Dr. Arulpragasam, she observed the behavior of club kids the world over and now, Rye Rye prepares to get serious about finishing her as of yet untitled album. Between her natural, care-free style and a group of producers at her disposal that most established artists would kill for, it’s only a matter of time before she’s got an hour of her own music to drive into the hearts of Baltimore’s youth. Then, the student can finally become the teacher.AllHipHop.com Alternatives: How long have you been rapping and performing?Rye Rye: Um… since I was 16, the summer of ’06.AHHA: That wasn’t that long ago; what made you decide to start? Did you secretly want to rap the whole time or did it just happen accidentally? Rye Rye: It was something that just popped up. I was a dancer and I used to write poetry, but one day I decided to try to write a verse. I ran into Blaqstarr and he asked me if I knew how to rap. I was being shy, so I took that verse I wrote and turned it into a song. I called him up and he wasn’t home so I just rapped the song on his answering machine. When I was in the club one day, he came up to me like “my brother likes your song, spit the first verse for him right here.” After that, I started going into the studio to record.AHHA: At your age, how are you getting exposed to the club music and meeting guys like Blaqstarr? Rye Rye: Down here in B-more, clubs open for the teenagers that are 17 and older, but I used to go even when I was young. A lot of the club music gets played on the radio so even then I got exposed to it and it was something that I grew up on. I just took if from there.

AHHA: Were you into the more straightforward Hip-Hop as well? Rye Rye: I used to watch a lot of the traditional Hip-Hop on TV, but since I dance I was always more into club the scene. We used to do Hip-Hop and R&B too but I would always really listen to club.AHHA: You recently came off a world tour with M.I.A. and went to a lot of places that you’d never been before. What did you see that was different from what you’d been encountering in the US?Rye Rye: The music and the scene is a little different because it’s all kinds of music and a blend. If you come to a club down here [in Baltimore] people will dance if they know how, but when you go to different countries, everybody dances no matter what and they have a good time. Down here everybody’s competitive and they’re always battling but when I go out of town everybody’s partying.AHHA: M.I.A. is a pretty popular artist around the world, so your first tour was bigger than what a lot of new artists get.Rye Rye: Yeah, it was pretty big. Most of the venues weren’t club venue,s but it’s always that same vibe because if the music’s loud and the bass hits hard then the crowd is into it. It was a pretty good experience because I was with an artist bigger than myself and saw how she contains the crowd so it helped my performance as well. She interacts with the crowd a lot and that’s what she tells me to do. That’s one of my major problems because I’m shy.AHHA: How did you manage to balance school with the tour? You were gone through most of the school year.Rye Rye: When I was out on tour, they would just send me stuff with all kinds of work to do that I’d bring back with me and we’d communicate through the internet. AHHA: What about your mother? How did she react when you told her about going? Rye Rye: My mother was excited about it. She wanted me to do it but she was definitely worried about school.AHHA: Now that you’re back and can spend more time in the studio, what are your plans for the album?Rye Rye: I plan to do everything. My music is Baltimore club, but I can do all kinds; my music is unclassified. Hip-Hop, R&B, Baltimeore Club, House Music… I’m finishing working on it now, it’ll probably come out maybe the beginning of next year. [For producers] I’m working with Zakee from DC, I been working with Diplo, Blaqstarr, I look forward to working with the Cool Kids and Maya’s [M.I.A.] my executive producer.AHHA: With all the time you spend in the club are we ever going to see you DJ?Rye Rye: [laughs] Um… I’m thinking about learning to DJ. Everyone thinks it’s a good idea, but I tried it once but I messed up the party.

50 Cent On Em: ‘You”ll Be Seeing Him Shortly’

The shroud of secrecy around Eminem’s forthcoming album was somewhat lifted yesterday, as label mate 50 Cent revealed the reclusive Detroit MC was hard at work on his sixth solo album.

Rumored to be titled King Mathers, 50 explained in reports that Eminem will commence with the project’s media campaign in next few months.

“You’ll be seeing him shortly. He’s working,” 50 told U.K.’s ITN News during a red carpet interview. “Even though he tries to relax and stay home it’s impossible for him to stay in.”

Fans expected the album’s release earlier this year after Dr. Dre disclosed to the Los Angeles Times in September 2007, that he was devoting two months exclusively to Eminem’s project.

Also increasing fan interest was T.I. revealing he worked with Em on a highly creative track pitting the alter egos Slim Shady and T.I.P. against each other.

However the biggest news was the Detroit superstar’s first collaboration with legendary board smith DJ Premier, who in April confirmed completion of a track entitled “Keys to the City.”

Unfortunately, according to 50 all these songs may never see the light of day due to Eminem’s perfectionist ways.

“A lot of material he wrote prior to this is being scrapped,” 50 admitted. “He’s got to feel like it’s just happened, it’s new and it’s current. That’s just how he is creatively as an artist.”

To date, the only confirmed guest for Eminem’s still officially untitled sixth album is 50 Cent.

At press time, the album is still tentatively planned for release by December 2008.
