Really Lisa Raye?

The views expressed in this column are not the views shared by AllHipHop.com. However, we don’t plan on watching Player’s Club for a very long time. It’s me b**ches! I have finally returned to you like those cold sores that periodically return to many of your privates! So I was in line awaiting my turn after responding to Miley Cyrus’ ad in the newspaper about setting up a gangbang. I was very excited to finally meet her! But after waiting in line for several hours I realized that I would be the last one that would go. I was number 300. (she was trying to break Lindsay Lohan’s record of 295 when she was her age). Since I had all this time to kill, I decided to go to church. As I was walking towards the church, my mind began to wander and out of all the useless people for my mind to focus on, for some reason I thought of Lisa Raye. After hearing about her recent troubles in Turks And Caicos this past week, I couldn’t help but think, really Lisa Raye? How is it that in a family that includes Da Brat, you Lisa Raye, still somehow managed to be the loser! I guess it all started with a little (by little I mean low budget and little talent) movie called Player’s Club. I know every actress has to start somewhere, but damnit Lisa, that just might have been the worst movie I have ever seen in my life. And this is coming from someone who has had to sit through Kelly Rowland movies! Your debut in the low budget version of Showgirls looked like a long version of a BET Uncut video. As a matter of fact I take that back, at least in the BET uncut videos they know better than to let the stripper tramps speak. I know I know you are probably saying you have been in many other movies than that. Well unfortunately, I’ve been pretty busy and I haven’t had the chance to check out the 99 cent DVD’s at Target. Actually, since your marriage is over and you virtually have no career (you have to have talent to have a “career”) you might actually be spending a lot of time at Target in the coming months. As an employee! When you do, get me some of your movies for low low.As if Player’s Club was not bad enough, someone decided to give you a television show. Your short-lived sitcom All of Us was actually not that bad, except for one thing. You were in it. Although you were in it with actors who are light years ahead of where you are, your performance was like a fart in a hot, locked car in the summer time. It nearly killed us. The best part about that show was that something actually came on after it. This simple fact renewed my faith in God. So in a weird way, thank you for bringing me back to Jesus!I will admit you are very nice-looking. I’d hit it! But unfortunately no one can really give you props for being a hot chick in your forties because we already have Halle Berry’s pre-menopausal ass still looking like she could go door-to-door selling Girl Scout cookies. So once again you lose. And I must admit when you decided to get married to the Premier of Turks and Caicos, the truth is I was happy for you because I thought perhaps now you could do something right – sit back and be a trophy wife. Unfortunately, this did not work out too well for you either. It seems allegedly your soon to be ex-hubby may have forced some OTHER chick to play with HIS “Playa’s Club.” So again you lose! Then reports recently surfaced about you driving your car through a barricade and attacking your soon to be ex-husband at your home in the country which he basically rules! On top of that, it seems after the fight you were both treated for bite marks! WTF! Have you been snorting your makeup or something? This ain’t Chicago! Calm your ass down before they force you to do Player’s Club II! Actually that would more be punishing us than you.And it seems you still plan on staying in Turks and Caicos saying crazy acid induced s**t like “Turks and Caicos is my home” And “I have no plans of leaving.” See this is what happens when stupid people happen to good countries. Last I checked Li Li, Turks and Caicos is your hot mess husband’s home and not yours! They accepted you because you were married to him! So now that your marriage is in the s***ter, it’s time to pack up and take your bad acting back to the CHI! Hey on the bright side, I hear R. Kelly’s single! On second thought never mind, you are about 35 years too old for him. I hear he likes newborns. So I guess you LOSE! Again! How is it that your loser sister is probably out partying it up with Psycho Mimi  and her personal p**sy licker (Nick Cannon) on some yacht while you are in Turks and Caicos fist fighting over jerked chicken wings?! Perhaps this is another mystery of the world I will never know.

ICE-T AND COCO GO WILD!

I know Jay-Z considers himself a rock star, but did he really mean that or did he mean Roc Star? One thing is for sure, Ice-T is a real ROCK STAR! For starters, he actually fronts a successful rock group called Body Count and they have inspired Hip-Hop to this day- just ask The Game.

In true rock fashion, Ice-T and his wife, Coco were truly wilding at a recent show in BK. Body Count was rocking, but nobody is talking about all that. They just care about the exploits of Ice and wife. They really do need a reality how of some sort.

Here are some of the pics.

LADY DRAMA’S FOOD FOR THOUGHT:MJ Tells His Brothers to F Off….. What Else is New! Michael Jacksonhas been dipping low and not talking to his brothers for a while! Butthis time it’s not because he doesn’t want to be bothered… I’mhearing it’s because he owes 3 of them a large lump sum of money!According to my source MJ owes Tito, Marlon and Jackie Jackson$840,000 in royalties from their Jackson 5 hits. And to top it off Ihear MJ probably won’t be accepting the BMI lifetime achievement awardwith his brothers also on Sept.4! Talk about being salty! Hope MJcomes to his senses cause at the end of the day sometimes family isall you got! Cassie Gets Played to the Left by…….. Of course none other than Diddy! A couple of spies spotted Cassie all dolled up at aEmpire hotel , patiently waiting on her under wraps beau Diddy!Unfortunately for her Sean wasn’t giving her the time of day as he wasattending to his entourage and she was being entertained by one of hismany assistants! The sources say that Cassie spent the whole nightglancing over at Sean but to no avail because dude paid her no mind! What a bust! Cash Cows! 50 Cent, Jay Z, and Diddy all topped theForbes Hip Hop Cash King lists! Read below: It’s been some year forShawn “Jay-Z” Carter. In the past 12 months, the Brooklyn, N.Y.-bornhip-hop demigod released a platinum album, signed a 10-year, $150million deal with concert promoter Live Nation and tied the knot withlongtime girlfriend Beyoncé Knowles. Quite a record. But only goodenough for a silver medal. While Jay-Z topped Forbes.com’s inauguralHip-Hop Cash Kings list of the top-earning people in the business lastyear, in 2008 he cedes the throne to Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, whoraked in $150 million over the past 12 months–almost twice what Jay-Zmade. Go head 50 for knocking Jay and Diddy down! I like to seesomeone else rise to the occasion! Not for nothing but I hear Tupacmade the list by making 15 Million this year… Huh? Can’t be made athim even if he is six feet under! Ooohhhh: Angela and Bow Wow May beBack On! Hmmm…. interesting 😉 Iain’t mad at ya Angela get in where you fit in! On a high note I hearRev Run may have lit a new fire in Bow Wow as he told the rapperSimmons girls are held to high standards and you are going to marryAngela if your seeing her exclusively! Looks like Kanye’s not the onlyone who needs one of Russell’s nieces huh?    Hoopz is Back… To the same DAMN thing: Lady Drama’s Food For Thought: I hear Fergie and Will.I.Am got into a fight… Who you got, cause I’m putting 20 onFergie! AHH Stray News: JayZ’ Headphones Approved By FCC

Hip-Hop mogul Jay-Z may be in a deal with Motorola, as a pair of “JayZ” headphones were recently approved by the FCC. According to CNet.com, the JayZ headphones allow the simultaneous use of a Bluetooth audio device and a cellphone. If you’re listening to music and your phone rings, you can opt to transfer the call to your headphones and when you hang up, the music resumes. While there’s no official confirmation of Jay-Z’s involvement in the product, the mogul, who recently placed second of Forbes listing of the richest Hip-Hop artists, also had a deal with Nokia in 2004, which resulted in the production of the Black Phone.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Jockin’ Jay-Z Video! Mike Jones’ Recovery! The Real Reason LisaRaye Went Nuts!

TODAY’S RUMORS!

I’m back like a crack addict that left his crack in the stash. Don’t forget those early rumors right here. Shelz and Drama held it down proper!

CONCERT – MIKE JONES SHOWS UP, TRAE…

Over the weekend, there was the Kingwood Summer Jam and I told you that both Trae and Mike Jones were supposed to be there. Well, Mike Jones showed up and I heard he kind of crept up on stage. From what I understand, somebody from American Idol was wrapping up their set and suddenly Mike Jones just popped on stage, says my boy Heavy T. He was like, “Who the hell is that?” and somebody told him that it was Mr. Mike Jones. They said that eventually it was easy to tell, because Mike was rockin’ a little ol’ Band-Aid on that nose that got hit at the Ozone Awards last week. Check out the video. Mike Jones is wearing the red hat.

And Trae? I heard Trae actually had a show in Dallas that night. We hear people we’re really upset because they were expecting both rappers to be there but, this smells like a promoter doing some creative marketing. Shout out to both guys.

Paul Wall showed up with Lil KeKe and they performed as well. People rushed the stage though after his performance and wanted to get photo’s and autographs from Paul and Keke. Paul went and signed auto’s and took flicks. I heard Paul was there with his son and wife. Did you know his son is like two now? Big!

LISARAYE’S REAL SPAZZ OUT REASON?

You know, last week Lisa Raye allegedly went on a rampage, biting people and running her car up on her hubby’s estate. Well, blogger Sandra Rose is giving the straight dope on the REAL reason. Sources are saying that her husband had a private DT trailing her and caught her a** laid up with another man. In case you didn’t know, her man is Turks & Caicos Premier Michael Misick and he’s like the KING there. You can’t beat the king! LMAO. What’s funny is the private investigator actually allegedly caught her in the United States so you know Misick was going all out. I also heard that LisaRaye isn’t finished with Rocsi. Stay Tuned.

SHEEK LOUCH – WE’RE WITH YOU.

I am hearing some sad news. Apparently, Sheek Louch of the Lox lost his father recently. Send a lil’ prayer up for Sheek and his fam.

Solange actually suffers from attention deficit disorder (ADD). I hope that doesn’t hamper her ability to focus on that album.

Disney has reportedly forced Spike Lee to end a beef with Clint Eastwood. They are scared that beefing with Dirty Harry might jeopardize Oscar nominations for “Miracle at St. Anna,” his new movie. SMH at Hollyweird politics.

Wendy Williams might be leaving New York’s WBLS, says rumors. That TV jump off might be working out for her better than I thought.

Hulk Hogan is reportedly paying his ex-wiz $40k in alimony. Now, that’s enough to bring the Hulkamaniac out a person!

Apparently, Reggie Bush scoried a touch down and Kim Kardashian is uploading her support of her man. That’s support right there.

Here is what she said:

The Saints played their second preseason game on Sunday against the Houston Texans. They lost but it was a great game. Reggie played phenomenally!

I know some of you might not be into football, but you have to check out this cool play! Reggie jumped right over a guy and scored a touchdown!!!

RANDOM QUOTES

Mark Ronson is beefing with Noel G. of Oasis, who was beefing with Jay-Z:

“Noel Gallagher said I should ‘learn three chords on the guitar and go write a tune’, so I just wanted him to know that I’m actually taking guitar lessons from Jay-Z right now and he’s already taught me both chords to Wonderwall. “In fact, it’s so much fun having Jay teach me all of Noel’s songs on the guitar (hooray!) that I’m thinking of doing an Oasis/Jay-Z remix album [like Danger Mouse’s Grey Album].”

Knockout Nation: Pac Turns Down De La Hoya! Calzaghe Confirms Retirement, Margarito Strikes Back at Critics, Jerry Quarry Remembered

Grand Opening/Grand Closing: Pacquiao Rebuffs De La Hoya OfferNot even a full week after announcing that negotiations had begun, Top Rank head Bob Arum has confirmed that his client Manny Pacquiao has declined to accept Oscar De La Hoya’s proposal for a December superfight. The stalling point was De La Hoya’s proposed 70-30 revenue split in his favor. Floyd Mayweather accepted a similar deal last year, and received a purse of $20 million after PP V sales were counted.“Oscar wanted 70-30 and Richard (Shaefer, Golden Boy CEO) and I figured that there would be room for movement. Oscar was supposed to come in [to Los Angeles] this week to meet with Richard in person, but he didn’t make it and had to do it on the telephone,” Arum explained to ESPN. “Oscar was adamant about it being 70-30 or no deal. Richard told me that and then I transmitted it to Pacquiao and his people in the Philippines. They told me that there was no deal and to look to make another fight.”Golden Boy CEO Richard Shaefer was shocked at Pacquiao’s refusal, and made it clear he felt the lightweight star did not have a clear grasp of how much money he’s turning down.“Pacquiao has an adviser and lawyer [Franklin “Jeng Gacal] who basically is caught up in percentages. But if you go buy a car or a house or food do you pay in percentages or in money?” Shaefer reasoned. “The answer is you pay in currency not percentages. I hope this has been properly explained to Manny.”With the fight off the table for now, De La Hoya has turned attention to an underwhelming final bout against 154 pound title holder Sergio Mora. Mora is coming off an upset win against Vernon Forrest, and the Latin Snake will have to repeat the feat next month to secure the December 6 date against the Golden Boy.Pacquiao is now working towards securing a fight with junior lightweight Humberto Soto, who would move up to 135 for the bout. It’s interesting to note that Mayweather attempted the same hardball negotiations with Oscar, but after one week relented when De La Hoya gave him the same “take it or leave it” demand Pacquiao now has.It turned out to be a wise decision for Floyd, as he became a mainstream star and went on to have the highest grossing year of his professional career ($50 million including the Hatton fight).Pacquiao’s situation mirrors Floyd as he is now the pound for pound number one fighter in the sport. But he lacks the popularity Mayweather had going into his bout with Oscar in 2007. Pacquiao’s last PPV with David Diaz fell short of 200,000 buys, while Floyd was able to do over 300,000 with Carlos Baldomir of all people.Pacquiao trainer Freddie Roach is attempting to get in contact with Manny, as he also feels a mistake is being made in rejecting this bout. And with how limited De La Hoya looked in his last bout against Stevie Forbes, Pacquiao should definitely reconsider this superfight that will make him at least $15million, besting his previous career-high payday of $5 million.Poll AnswersCalzaghe Claims He Will Retire After Jones Fight, Dismisses PavlikAt a recent media conference super-middleweight and light-heavyweight champion Joe Calzaghe confirmed that he will be retiring after his November 8 superfight with Roy Jones, Jr.“It’s a massive fight and it will be my last,” Calzaghe explained. “I’ve known for awhile when I wanted to go out and as long as I put on a great performance this is my time.”Calzaghe went on the offensive against middleweight champ Kelly Pavlik, who last week accused the Welshman of ducking a potential fight.“We actually tried to get Pavlik after the Jeff Lacy fight and he declined,” Calzaghe detailed to Wales Online. “We asked him again after he won the middleweight title and he declined again. So it’s funny how people come knocking on your door when you decide to fight someone else. I think he is just trying to get publicity off the back of me which is something lots of fighters try to do.”Pavlik will be facing Bernard Hopkins in October, and currently sports an undefeated pro record with two wins over Jermain Taylor. Calzaghe remains unimpressed and defends his choice of facing a faded Jones.“You can’t even speak of him (Pavlik) as a great fighter yet because to be one you have to consistently be in the big fights. Roy Jones is a legend, that’s the difference,” Calzaghe reasoned. “You’re not fighting a promising champion, you are fighting a legend and that’s what it’s all about.”Even though Calzaghe is obviously facing Jones for the big payday, you cannot ignore his record over the past two years. He’s faced the two most dangerous young challengers to his super-middleweight throne (Lacy, Kessler) and defeated both soundly. From there, he moved up in weight and defeated the linear light-heavyweight champion.I hope he decides to go for a triple crown and defeat Pavlik, but if he doesn’t Calzaghe has more than proved himself to critics who derided him as a protected champion.Margarito Camp Lashes Out at De La Hoya and WilliamsAfter a week of seeing his name dragged through the mud, welterweight champion Antonio Margarito is furious at Oscar De La Hoya and Paul Williams for what he feels are petty games being played by his rivals.Since his spectacular win against Miguel Cotto last month, Margarito has seen De La Hoya dismiss him as a potential opponent for his final December 6 bout.Sure that Cotto would emerge victorious; Oscar expressed his desire to face the winner of Cotto-Magarito. But now with Margarito coming out the victor, De La Hoya stated on ESPN radio that Margarito has unfinished business with Paul Williams and doesn’t deserve a shot. The Golden Boy went on to say that Margarito was being “disrespectful” to Paul Williams by even proposing a bout with him.Margarito of course is not pleased with De La Hoya’s comments.“Oscar needs to stop disrespecting the boxing fans,” a fuming Margarito told boxingscene.com. “The fans are demanding this fight to take place. The fans are the ones who have made him who he is.”Margarito went on to explain he desire for this fight goes back years to a promise De La Hoya when he served as the Golden Boy’s sparring partner.“I have known Oscar for years. I was his sparring partner, I helped him prepare for fights,” Margarito revealed. “During that time I would ask Oscar if he would ever give me the opportunity to fight him. He said yes, but only if and when I won a title. Well I won a title. I saw him at a press conference and again I asked him when would he give me an opportunity , he then smiled at me and told the media that I was a possibility, but a couple days later he said he could make more money fighting someone else. He said no one knew who I was and there was no demand for that fight.”Regarding Paul Williams, who defeated Margarito in 2007, Margarito’s manager Sergio Diaz countered claims that the Tijuana Tornado is ducking a rematch.“Mr. Goossen (Paul Williams’ manager) flies Williams to LA, invites media to lunch and begins to call out Antonio because Paul just beat the fighter (Carlos Quintana) who gave him a beating back in February,” Diaz explains. “If anything, Mr. Goossen and Paul should be thanking Top Rank and Antonio for taking the Cintron bout. It left the door open to rematch Quintana. They weren’t saying we were making the wrong decision back in February. They weren’t calling Antonio out after he defeated Cintron. They had their own agenda and it did not include Antonio. Now that Antonio beat Cotto and Paul regained the title he should of never lost to begin with, Mr. Goossen and Paul are making their demands. Paul needs to pressure his promoter to keep him busy. What Oscar needs to do is sit down and think about who is disrespecting who.”It’s only been a few weeks, but already the bickering back and forth is getting tired. For the sake of the sport, I hope De La Hoya picks a dance partner soon to end all this nonsense. As long as the Golden Boy is dangling 8 figure paydays out there, the best fighters from 140 through 154 pounds will have their attention focused not on fighting the best in their respective divisions, but seeking any way possible to land a fight with a semi-retired, faded cash cow in Oscar De La Hoya. It’s quite ironic that Paul Williams is going after Margarito for the same thing Antonio slammed Mayweather for doing, which is chasing De La Hoya over top challengers in their division.Poll AnswersResults from Telefutura and ESPN Friday Night FightsIn another bizarre ESPN night at the fights (August 15), former promising prospect Anthony Thompson (23-3, 17 KOs) was screwed out of a victory when a headbutt was ruled a punch, resulting in a TKO win for his opponent Ishmail Arvin (15-14, 7 KOs).Thompson was in firm command of the junior middleweight bout, scoring two knockdowns before a clash of heads halted the fight in the sixth round.Even though the referee and commission viewed clear ESPN footage showing the bad cut was the result of a headbutt, the ref chose to award an undeserved TKO victory to Arvin. You can expect that Thompson will dispute the decision, and rightly so.Returning from a near two year layoff, former 130 pound champ Carlos “Famoso” Hernandez won a close split decision over unheralded Hector Alatorre.Fighting at lightweight, Hernandez outworked Alatorre but took a physical beating throughout the contest. The final scores read 97-93, 96-94, and 93-97 for Hernandez, who improves to 43-7-1, 24 KOs. Hector Alatorre falls to 15-5, 5 KOs.For those who like trivia, Hernandez faced a young Floyd Mayweather back in 2001 in a competitive bout. Mayweather won a clear unanimous decision but suffered his first knockdown after injuring his hand.Throwback Fighter of the Week: “Irish” Jerry QuarryNot only did heavyweight contender Jerry Quarry possess the raw aura of a fighter, but his tenacious spirit helped make the 1970s the most talented and competitive era in heavyweight boxing history.Starting his career in the mid 60s, Quarry ran through mid-level competition until he was out-boxed by slickster Eddie Machen in 1966.Learning from that fight, he went on to battle former champ Floyd Patterson to a draw in a bout where both men hit the canvas. Despite this, many still felt Quarry did enough to get the nod.In the rematch, Quarry again dropped Patterson and this time secured a close majority decision. He got his first shot at the title in the WBA title tournament, created to crown a new champion in the wake of Muhammad Ali’s suspension. After destroying promising contender Thad Spencer, Quarry was outpointed in the semis by Jimmy Ellis. In 1969, he met a young Joe Frazier in what RING magazine crowned as the fight of the year. There was no give in Quarry that night, as he battled Frazier tooth and nail on the inside. However, a nasty cut caused the bout to be stopped after round 7.After another disappointing KO loss to iron-chinned George Chuvalo, Quarry rebounded with a knockout of undefeated power-puncher Mac Foster in 1970.The momentum was short-lived, as a returning Muhammad Ali easily cut up and dispatched Quarry in three in October 1970.Quarry would fare no better in the 1972 rematch, where Ali toyed with him in route to an 8th round TKO.Undeterred, Quarry retained his top 10 ranking by posting impressive wins over undefeated Ron Lyle and Earnie Shavers in 1973.1974 proved painful as Joe Frazier gave Quarry a frightful beating over 5 rounds in a rematch. The following year, a now declining Quarry was beat worse by Ken Norton for another 5th round stoppage.Done as a top flight contender, Quarry continued fighting sporadically over the next 17 years, which resulted in him suffering from Pugilistic Dementia. He died in 1999 at the age of 53.The Jerry Quarry Foundation for Pugilistic Dementia was set up and can be viewed at this website http://www.jerryquarry.com/Inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame in 1995, “Irish” Jerry Quarry’s final record stands at 53-9-4, 32 KOs.Jerry Quarry Chronicles, Part 1

Rappers Honor The Jacksons At 8th Annual BMI Awards

A number of rappers will be on hand to honor the legendary Jacksons, at the 8th Annual Urban Music Awards, being held at the Wilshire Theatre in Beverly Hills.

Artists confirmed to attend the BMI Awards include E-40, Mario Winans, DJ Toomp, Lil Wayne, Ne-Yo, Rick Ross, T-Pain, Dallas Austin, Yung Berg, Polow Da Don, Soulja Boy and others.

The award show will be presented by performing rights organization BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc), which represents over 375,000 composers, songwriters, and music publishers across all genres of musical expression.

The Jacksons’ primary lineup featured Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, Randy and Michael from 1969 through 1989.

During that span, the group made history as pop music’s most decorated quintet.

The Jacksons were the first group to have their first four singles hit #1, and went on to secure 17 Top 10 singles over the quintet’s 20 year history.

Those singles featured their biggest hits: “ABC,” “I Want You Back,” “The Love You Save,” and “I’ll Be There.”

The Jackson’s musical legacy is also felt in Hip-Hop, as their airy, disco-infused grooves and ballads became the foundation for artists such as Jay-Z (“I.Z.Z.O.,” “I Just Wanna Love U”), Naughty By Nature (“O.P.P.”), Mariah Carey (“Honey”), Jadakiss (“Put Your Hands Up”) and Ghostface Killah (“All That I Got Is You”).

The event will be hosted by BMI President and CEO Del Bryant and Vice President Catherine Brewton.

According to The New York Post, tension between Michael and his brothers is running high because they haven’t spoken to their estranged brother for three years – since he was acquitted of child molestation charges in 2005.

Michael, who is reportedly in a wheelchair, allegedly owes his brothers over $840,000 in royalties from their Jackson 5 recordings.

The 8th annual BMI Urban Music Awards begin at 6pm on September 4.

Kid Capri: Legendary Status

When Kid Capri speaks, the initial Hip-Hop excitement is still in his voice. Mostly though, The Bronx native is known for speaking with his hands as a legendary DJ and a producer for everyone from Heavy D to Styles P. Currently getting his own label, No Kid’N, up and running, Kid is slated to release a new mixtape with Budda Early entitled The Treatment on September 16th as well as a solo album called The Whole World’s Behind David Love later in the fall. In the meantime, the World’s Greatest D.J. is touring with Rakim and working on a biographical film called The Craziest Kid. As someone who goes back to zodiac signs and sweatshirts but never lost a step, Kid is one of Hip-Hop’s greatest ambassadors. Take notes. AllHipHop.com: Sorry to start on a down note but Bernie Mac recently passed away. Having worked with him on Def Comedy Jam, did you get to know him at all and is there anything you can share about him?Kid Capri: Bernie Mac came from Def Comedy Jam and the first time he came out he did good but he became the icon the second time when me and him was doing a routine called “Kick It” that we made up right on the spot. We didn’t rehearse it or anything and it became real legendary for him. When we took Def Comedy Jam on the road with that routine, people was lovin’ it so much. We would perform and it got so crazy that we was just doing different routines and spontaneous things and it would just get more hot. People liked that that it was just ‘all of a sudden.’ We used to be on the tour bus and Bernie would put his stocking cap on and grab a Heinekin and be funnier off stage than he’d be on stage. He’d be on the bus all night just telling jokes. We’d be on the floor, balled up and couldn’t take no more. By the time we go to sleep he was telling jokes to the bus driver. He was one of those dudes. He was like an uncle.  Real humble and we would tear the stage down every night it didn’t matter where it was, or if different comedians before us wasn’t good or made the crowd feel a certain way, he would come in and make things right, fix it and leave it better than before he got there.AllHipHop.com: You have a new label and mixtape coming out, but to take it back to the past and essence of Kid Capri, you obviously love music to death and have dedicated your life to it. Was there a particular record or a moment or something like that when you knew this was what you wanted to do?Kid Capri: Actually, my father when I was younger, watching him on stage performing, he was a singer and my grandfather played trumpet for Dizzy Gillespie and Count Basie and Miles Davis and them dudes. My father was singing he had a couple of hit records out in the 70s and seeing him on stage growing up and watching him that right there let me know that I wanted to be on stage. I was always around music, the DJing thing wasn’t out yet but I knew that I would do something in it. I didn’t know what I was gonna be big in but that’s what I wanted to do.Then when the DJing thing came out, I was on my block and this kid, my man Joe, he was throwin’ some dice on the wall and he was like “Yes yes y’all to the beat y’all freak freak y’all,” and I’m looking at him like, What the hell is he saying, what the hell is he talking about? That week they had a party in the community center with these kids called Rockwell Inc.-DJ B Ward, MC Cool C, Smooth B, Crazy B, they used to have parties at Marble Hill Community center for a dollar, two dollars. I was down there watching B Ward deejay and I ain’t never seen that. I didn’t go to the bathroom, I didn’t talk to no kids, I didn’t dance, I just watched this kid playing. This one time he was cutting this record called “Conga” [Lafayette Afro Rock Band] and he was cutting it so crazy I ran home and told my moms this is what I wanna do, I wanna be a DJ and she said a DJ, what’s that? I said I want a turntable, I want this I want that, moms didn’t have a lot of money so she bought me a mixer that had no headphones. That’s how I got nice cuz I had to guess those spots on the records. So the older dudes that was around at the time, deejays on my block, they were like How is this eight-year-old kid bustin’ they ass? It’s because I didn’t have headphones. My name was DJ Doctor Spank [laughs].I started talking to this girl in the neighborhood named Barbara Carter; me and her was in the same class we started goin’ together for a little while and we was walking into the classroom and she said Kid Capri sounds like a good name for a DJ you should try it. I tried it put the name on the sweatshirt and next thing you know I was Kid Capri. Two months later she was shot, a stray bullet killed her so that’s why I kept the name. But to answer your question, when I heard B Ward cut that “Conga” record that’s when I knew what I wanted to do. My first single on my first album [The Tape] was “The Apollo” and that’s on the other side of that “Conga” record, it’s on the same album. Public Enemy used those horns and later there was “Rumpshaker” and “Show Me What You Got” with Jay-Z. I was the first that used Debarge [hums “One More Chance”] before Biggie on the first album. I had a lot of beats that were in the future before dudes was really getting at it. Kid Capri “Apollo”AllHipHop.com: As far as studio work, where do production and deejaying overlap?Kid Capri: The best producers are the ones who are the DJs because they’re out there playing records for people to dance to. You have dudes like Premier, Pete Rock, new dudes like Polow Da Don, dudes like Jermaine Dupri he was a DJ before he was a producer. Cats like them that know those beats that know those records to keep. The best producers that I’ve known in Hip-Hop have been DJs first. Now every producer can’t be a DJ, every DJ can’t be producer, everyone has a job to do. But Swizz, Scratch, they were DJs before they became producers. AllHipHop.com: As far as emceeing goes and having seen so many eras, what are your standards for an MC? Kid Capri: A dope MC is when you can get on a record and be hot and then not be selfish to the point that you don’t know how to make a song. Even more of a dope emcee is when he can get on stage and not only have to worry about his single but he can get on stage and make you believe in him where you don’t even care about his record cuz he was so dope. Perfect example is the Fugees’ first album. In my opinion the first Fugees album was trash, it ain’t like it’s a secret it ain’t disrespect, it wasn’t a good album. But when you see them on stage you didn’t see them performing those records because they knew it wasn’t a good album it wasn’t selling but they would use other music and their show would be so incredible that you had to respect them. Next thing you know their next album sold 17 million or some crazy number. A lot of dudes don’t realize that you make that single but when you get on stage people are coming to see what you’re gonna do. If you have a hot record that’s great if you have a list of hot records even better. But after that you wanna make sure that this show is something people are gonna believe in, that people wanna pay for a ticket to see you again and a promoter will take a chance on you coming back. Understand that you’re not doing anyone a favor everyone’s doing you one. AllHipHop.com: Do you think the art of the live performance is something that’s been lost?Kid Capri: I don’t think it’s a lost art but dudes are not puttin’ in the work that they’re supposed to be puttin’ in. You could get a list of dudes that have a hit record and put ‘em on stage and they do their record and do a buncha other s**t that nobody else knows and it’s really not that interesting. If it is then that’s beautiful but that’s what being a showman is about it’s knowing how to manipulate that stage so people will believe in what you’re doing. You can put that person up against dudes that have a whole category of hot records like the dudes that I’m out with now on Rock the Bells—Rakim, A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Mos Def—who can bang you on the head with 13 or 14 records and its hard to come after that. That’s when it’s not about being someone who’s just a studio MC. You have to take that studio record to the world on that stage. They gonna come to see how you execute that record on stage and if that show ain’t popping word’s gonna spread and next thing you know you ain’t booked.Go Crazy f/ Kid Capri – Kid Capri & Budda Early

“People were walking up saying, Who are you, why should I buy a tape for

twenty dollars? I told them take my tape put it in your car and listen

to the intro, I guarantee you’re gonna come back and buy the rest of

the joints… Next thing you know every car that’s goin’ by, from the police cars to

regular people, every car had a Kid Capri tape. That’s how I got hot to where I got my first

album deal.”

AllHipHop.com: Your upcoming release, The Treatment, is billed as a mixtape. Everything in the game now is mixtape this and mixtape that. What is the true history of the mixtape and what was Kid Capri’s hand in that?Kid Capri: First off before we go there I don’t like calling this joint a mixtape that’s not really what it is. A mixtape is not taking a bunch of records and putting it out there on a joint. We call it that, but it’s not. A mixtape is when you’re deejaying and doing it all at one time playing records, there aint no computer involved there aint no stopping the record pausing it; that’s what I always knew a mixtape to be. But I guess this coincided with the ones we have out now so we calling it a mixtape. But really it was dudes doing an album and some of it may be other people’s music they’re still put together as though it was their album. What it does it gives you a chance to be heard the same way I used to do it.My contribution was that before me you had Starchild, Hollywood, Brucie B, Lovebug Starski, when I came in I started playing with Starchild, me and him was making tapes together and they did good. People would come to the S & S Club a lot of younger dudes and old timers in-crowd people they would come get ‘em so we was out. I did that for a year I was with Starchild for a year at S & S and the Zodiac Club. After that, Red Alert got me a job at Studio 54 I started playing there and it became pandemonium, it got so crazy I had to stop it. People were getting hurt, a lot of fights breaking out, a lot of folks was getting rushed it was overcapacitated I had to stop it. Between that I was doing little parties here and there in Virginia and I’d come back and do my New York thing, the Castle, Powerhouse, all that. But I said what am I gonna do now? I bought me a hundred tapes and sat in my crib and I made five or six different mixes that I had and I sat down on the street corner and I sold them tapes for twenty dollars. People were walking up saying, Who are you, why should I buy a tape for twenty dollars? I told them take my tape put it in your car and listen to the intro, I guarantee you’re gonna come back and buy the rest of the joints. They’ll take it, put it in their car, hear the intro come back and buy everything. It got so crazy that they’d come back, buy a tape that cost twenty dollars and then give me a hundred dollar tip. Next thing you know every car that’s goin’ by, from the police cars to regular people, every car had a Kid Capri tape and they’d be shouting it all over the street. That’s how I got hot to where I got my first album deal. That right there opened the door for other DJs to come in. After me came Ron G, Triple C, Doo Wop, they developed the same type of style the way I would talk on the tape, the things I would say on the mic. The way my mixtape got so big was cuz of the type of music I would play that people forgot about, the information I gave and how I said it. They felt my swagger by listening to the tape. You felt like you was there when you heard it. Even if it was made in my house it felt like it was made in a stadium. The Old School 1, the Old School 2, the James Brown, all those joints became classics. Magazines started saying I was making millions off the mixtapes, that wasn’t true. I was getting known from people copying the tapes but I wasn’t seeing all that money. The only way to get out of that was to stop it all together

“How could any stupid person say the DJ’s obsolete? Where does your record get played on a mixtape or on the radio or in the club without the DJ playin’ it? Who else is gonna play it? The artist?”

AllHipHop.com: There’s been some talk dissing DJs lately like maybe they’re even obsolete. What’s your take on that and what’s the DJ’s role at this point in time?Kid Capri: How could any stupid person say the DJ’s obsolete? Where does your record get played on a mixtape or on the radio or in the club without the DJ playin’ it? Who else is gonna play it? The artist? The artist is gonna go in the club, turn on the turntable and play the g######## record? No. And he’s sending his man which is some f****t s**t he’s sending his man to give him a shout-out and let people know he’s in the building instead of him coming to see the DJ. Sit back get your ego together and see the DJ and say “I appreciate you playin’ my s**t, B, and I need you and I love you for playin’ my s**t, you don’t have to play my s**t and I thank you.” Do that to me? Any one of them n****s know you see me you come to my joint you send your man to come say something to me, n***a it’s like you didn’t say s**t at all. You better come see me. “Kid, what’s up? I’m in the building.” People know that from me for years, that ain’t no new story. You’re a f**king star well I’m a star without you. I may not have the millions you have but I’m a star at what I do. You gonna respect what I do not for the fact of me being a DJ but for me being a man period. And then you’re going respect me for what I do. It’s just a matter of respect.AllHipHop.com: Where do you think that mutual respect got lost? Is it when people started to see a lot of money out of this?Kid Capri: That’s what it is, man. Being humble is not a hard thing to do. Everyone loves somebody that’s cool man. People wanna f**k with you, people wanna be around you, people wanna be you by you bein’ cool. If you’re walking around with an attitude cause you got a little money now. cause you a rock star or a rap star that s**t comes and goes. Be a Kid Capri.  Be somebody that’s been here from the beginning and is still here. Be that. Don’t be somebody that blew up and you the man and then you fell the f**k off because of the way you treated people and now you wanna get back and you mad cause nobody wanna help you

“My television presence on Def Comedy Jam you only saw me for a split second on there. Nobody really got what Kid Capri was all about on that show… What I did on Hip-Hop Honors and the BET Awards shows and all that was cool, that was a little display, but there’s so much more that people don’t even know.”

AllHipHop.com: When you look at that history that goes so far back, what really stands out for you personally as a moment?Kid Capri: The one thing that made me real proud and let me know that I really landed was when I got on stage at [Madison Square] Garden for Aaliyah. From what I hear there’s never been any pandemonium like that in the Garden that I created for that ten minutes or fifteen minutes. I’ve had people tell me that they’ve never seen a show like that, that they’d never seen a crowd reaction like the way I had them in the Garden. It was because I did it with just turntables. I did it as a DJ. I wasn’t a rock star, I had no records out, there wasn’t no iconic figure I was just a dude that made it doing it with turntables bigger than anybody else. To get the same reaction or a bigger reaction than an R. Kelly or anyone of these pop people or platinum people that I was able to do that was one of my proudest moments. Out of thousands of shows or parties that was the one that let me know I made it and that people really respect what I do and they understand. From there, being the first dude who owns a tour bus in Hip-Hop, being in all the television shows as a DJ, that let me know that I put the work in and I opened doors. Anytime somebody rolls up on me in a mall or on the street or at one of my shows and they say Kid it’s because of you I ain’t killin’ nobody right now, I ain’t robbin’ nobody’s house, it’s cause of you I changed my life it’s because of you I started deejaying and I’m able to take care of my family. Every time I hear it that s**t makes me feel better than anything because I know I made a difference to people and I didn’t have no records to do it, I didn’t have no strong television presence. My television presence on Def Comedy Jam you only saw me for a split second on there. Nobody really got what Kid Capri was all about on that show. That’s a conversation I just had with Doug E. Fresh. When people get a chance to see what I really do on the road, when they got a chance to see that that’s gonna be a whole other level. What I did on Hip-Hop Honors and the BET Awards shows and all that was cool, that was a little display, but there’s so much more that people don’t even know. When they get a chance to see that’s gonna really let people know that there’s no DJ on earth that does what this dude does. That’s not a cocky statement that’s not a bragging statement, that’s a fact. The reason is because I come from the Kool Herc days, Grandmaster Flash, Theodore, Breakout all these dudes from back then I was watching as a little kid all the way up until now. I put all those things together and that’s a much bigger look than someone who came in the business five years ago ten years ago. You’re talking about someone who’s been in the business 32 years. Hip-Hop is 32 years old, I’ve been there for 32 years. I can go out with Rakim, KRS, different people. I go back to the old school people and then I can go to the new people. I can rock with anybody. I didn’t [get] sucked into the timeline. I can rock with anybody, that’s a great thing.AllHipHop.com: One last question: what’s your number one record of all time?Kid Capri: Number one record of all time? [pauses to think]. To me, “The 900 Number.” AllHipHop.com: Any reason?Kid Capri: It doesn’t matter where you’re at, what age it is, everybody knows that record. That s**t the 45 King put together, that s### goes [hums saxophone line], no hook no rap, everybody knows that s###. White people, Chinese people. Everybody knows that record. That’s one of the all time greats.

Scott Storch Working On ‘Lucky’ Luciano Flick

Scott Storch may be poised to make a come back from recent financial troubles, as the chart-topping producer has been tapped to work on Crash, an upcoming film about organized crime boss, Charles “Lucky” Luciano.

Storch will be involved with Crash in a producer capacity, along with independent record promoter Joe Isgro and his Full Force Productions, which is raising over $35 million dollars to finance the film.

According to Variety, Crash chronicles Luciano’s rise on New York’s Lower East Side in the 1900’s through violence, extortion and liquor bootlegging, to his rise to power by creating the blueprint for today’s modern day organized crime structure.

Luciano, who was sentenced to 30-years in prison for pimping and pandering, was eventually released after he cooperated with the government, by helping to root out German spies on the New York waterfronts.

He also arranged for U.S. soldiers to receive safe passage as they traveled through Sicily.

Crash is being written by Bobby Moresco and focuses on the governments efforts to lock Luciano away before his untimely death of a heart attack in the Naples airport in 1962.

Isgro, himself was investigated for having ties to the Gambino crime family in New York.

In 1990, he was acquitted of payola charges, in what was then labeled the “biggest music payola prosecution in three decades.”

The news comes amidst financial woes for Storch, whose $10 million mansion in Miami is facing foreclosure.

Storch, who is wanted on a warrant for failing to appear at a court ordered child support hearing, also has paternity and child supports suits.

The producer also reportedly owes over $500,000 in real estate taxes and another $500,000 on a defaulted loan.

The day after his death, she listened to the song “Thoughts and Wishes” by Hamilton Bohannon, a tune the couple considered “our song,” Rhonda says. “I was singing it and a chill just came over me and I knew it was him,” she said. “I get through because I know he’s in a better place now.’ What a strong woman!According to out other rumor maven, There were over 6,000 people in attendance at Mac’s funeral.  Chicago Mayor Richard Daley, Samuel Jackson, Steve Harvey, Cedric the Entertainer, DL Hughley were among those who spoke.  And messages of condolences were sent from Senator Obama and the whole White Sox baseball franchise. Lisa Raye is at it again! Shaquille O’Neal filed for divorce in Miami-Dade Circuit Court in September 2007, after nearly five years of marriage. “Things have been going so great, that someone actually had to remind us that ‘Hey, you do remember those papers are still there.’ Literally, it was days ago,” Shaunie O’Neal said. “So, we’ve agreed that before we leave Florida in a few days we’ll make sure that that’s gone away.” Who is Shaq tryna fool, we know those spousal support checks were looking real large, especially without a ring on that finger and I aint talking about a weeding ring either 😉 Master says WE CAN DO BETTER, Launching a new BLACK network! Does somebody someone thinkBET isn’t standing up to the plate when it comes to good Black entertainment? This can’t be true I know Rick Ross is much better than that! Good look on the recent pub he’s been getting though! Go Hard or Go Home… But with Rick Ross allegedly on the loose I may have to re-think that!ARBITRARY MOMENTS WITH SHELZ!Shelz takes a moment to get you though some of the miscellaneous weekend items!

I

understand someone leaked the clean version of Game’s LAX. I know he

said he would do it himself, so I’m not sure if it was him or someone

beat him to it.  But it’s allegedly floating around out there.  Be careful though, some folks are complaining that the file has screwed up their speakers.

Papoose and Remy Ma allegedly got married recently. That’s one good man!

MC Hammer has been picked up by ESPN to handle some Monday Night Football promotions.  First Lil Richard.  Now Hammer?  The NFL really knows how to dust off a coffin.  Monday night is now Hammer Time.

The Virgin Festival ran through Baltimore and folks said it was a pretty good time.  But Lil Wayne was late.  Again?  Wasn’t he late last time he swung through B-More?  Maybe it was them long ass lines at the car rental building out there at BWI.  Lord

knows Ive spent an hour or two in that spot. Oh and some folks

complained that he used full tracks instead of instrumentals.  Can’t please everyone.  And they said Kanyeeeezy ripped it, but only after kicking the VIP folks off the stage.  Ain’t always nice to have them John Q’s in your periphery, huh Ye?

Pep from Salt and Pepa is writing a book along with every other literate person in the industry.

And the Clipse appear to be baiting Lil Wayne again.  Or maybe it’s the media who bates the Clipse to bait Wayne.  Damn those writers!I Killed G-Unit!

I see we have someone else wanting to take responsibility for the alleged downfall of G-Unit.  I

think about a week ago Buck said he felt his mistreatment at the hands

of Lord Fif may have had something to do with the lack luster sales of

TOS.  Now we have The Games taking his portion of the responsibility, but he says it was all him.  Yup, he did it all by himself with no help from that Buck guy.

Yung Joc is Paid!  But Not Paying.

I learn something new everyday folks.  I had no idea Yung Joc was that kinda rich.  But I guess if anyone would know it’s the baby moma getting the late child support payments.  Per the local news here in Atlanta, he’s one of the richest dudes in the game.  And when baby moma was asked what kind of cars he drives, this chick said Bentleys with an s.  Hmmmm?  Anyway, he missed one child support payment and she sicked the folk on him. But one thing I don’t understand.  If he is making that kind of money, why is she only getting $2,000 a month?  I guess we will find out on his court date, if he shows up.  I think there is something a little fishy here.

50, Jay-Z, and Diddy Top Forbes Hip-Hop Earnings List

For the second straight year Jay-Z, 50 Cent, and Diddy top Forbes’ second annual “Hip-Hop Cash Kings” list, but there is a new reigning king for 2008.50 Cent usurped Jay-Z as the top earner with $150 million grossed in the last year. The cornerstone of 50’s portfolio is his stake in VitaminWater’s parent company Glaceau, which was bought for $4.1 billion by Coca-Cola.The Queens native’s investments also include video games, G-Unit clothing/records, and a pending partnership in South Africa with billionaire mining baron Patrice Motsepe.Jay-Z bows in at number 2 generating $82 million in earnings.Off the strength of last year’s platinum album American Gangster, Jay brokered a 10-year, $150 million dollar deal with concert promoter Live Nation. The partnership will have the organization assisting Jay in promotion of all his business endeavors, which begins after his pending last Def Jam album Blueprint 3.Bad Boy CEO Sean “Diddy” Combs generated $35 million in revenue behind the success of premium vodka Ciroc, the Sean John clothing line, and Bad Boy releases from Danity Kane and Day26.The boundless entrepreneur has taken over TV, with Combs’ highly successful reality shows in Run’s House, I Want to Work for Diddy, and Making the Band.Rounding out the top five are producers Kanye West and Timbaland, who’ve earned $30 and $22 million respectively.Along with the success of their 2007 albums Graduation and Shock Value, the highly sought-after boardsmiths increased their net worth with production credits for Madonna, Bjork, Alicia Keys, Jay-Z, and Diddy.Completing the top 10 on Forbes’ “Hip Hop Cash Kings 2008” are Pharrell Williams ($20 million), Swizz Beatz ($17 million), Snoop Dogg ($16 million), Dr. Dre ($15 million), and Ludacris ($14 million).

Class Of ’88: KRS-One

With our ongoing Class Of ‘88 features, we have been paying tribute to the immensely classic work that came out that year. So far we’ve gone in with Big Daddy Kane, Eric B., Chuck D., EPMD, MC Lyte, Marley Marl just to name a few. It’s only right though. 1988 is probably the greatest year for Rap music bar none. And truth be told AllHipHop.com, was the only publication to take things back in order to frame this twentieth anniversary properly.

Now you can’t walk anywhere without tripping on 1988 related content. Yes folks we’ve been swagger jacked. So with that said we are switching up the look. Rather than focusing on one single album, we take a look at the era in question. And who better to provide commentary than KRS-One. He reminisces on the height of crack rock, the lack of organization within Rap then, and analyzes the game now in true Blastmaster fashion.

“We were just getting used to the smell of crack; that was ‘88. 1985 the crack era hit its peak. 1986 and 1987 we start seeing the horrible effects. In ’88 it still wasn’t wack to do crack. In ’88 you could still go to a club and smell a woolie [blunt] in the air and for those who aren’t in the know, that’s crack with weed. You could smell that all in the air of some of the most famous clubs.

So ’88 to me starts right there in terms of the social structure. That was the height of the crack era. This was also the end of the Five Percent era too. This is also the end of the era of the Black man in the street walking around with a book. There used to be a time where men, really Blacks and Puerto Ricans, would walk around New York with books in their hand. Either The Koran, The Bible, something from Dr. [Malachi] York or Behold A Pale Horse. It was like your jewelry, that’s what you were judged by.

This used to go on in our culture due to the influence of the Five Percent Nation. The intricate part to that is that this was the end of that era. ’88 is the end of the conscious Black man era; where we used to get in a cipher, not the rhyme cipher, but the original knowledge cipher that was instigated by the Five Percent, that came to an end. This was an era of man that we don’t really see anymore.

The Black man stopped being a Black man in ’88. Look at the changing of the guards right there. ’88 rolls around and Black Panther Black man, Five Percent Black Man, Marcus Garvey Black man, Nation of Islam Black man, the Moors, that Black man; they all start dying out right around ’88; this buffoonery that we have today started to take prevalence. Huey P. [Newton] gets killed in 1989 and Minister Farrakhan started to tone it down.

I don’t really want to dwell on that because that wasn’t really my start; it’s my observation. ’88 was to me was also a trying period for Hip-Hop. [Now] when you say MC, I could only count a few MC’s on my hand today. Let me also say this, there are dudes that were dope MCs in the 80’s and ain’t sh*t today. [They] were dope back in the day and now claim that old school sh*t, “respect me because I’m old school”.

“Respect me because if it wasn’t for me, you wouldn’t be eating”, man f*** that! I’m old school too, and at the end of the day these motherf***ers just not practicing. They’re sitting at home playing Nintendo. I don’t know what their story is but at the end of the day I write a fresh rhyme every night before I go to bed. So when you see me on stage you could believe if any n****r want to step up I got some sh*t for your ass; day and night.

Now when I look and see these dudes saying they are the greatest of all times, I be like word? If you can’t spit that sh*t raw on the corner of Flatbush and Nostrand Avenue, you ain’t sh*t. This is what ’88 was all about. I don’t see too many people doing that today. It’s all about your ice now.

Mceeing is [now] based on how many diamonds you got. You spit one record and motherf***ers claiming king and sh*t. Like what are you the king of, Disneyland? New York isn’t New York anymore. I will never say New York is dead, because there is some heat around here but at the end of the day, the sh*t we had going around in ’88, and you can quote me, we had the rest of the nation shook.

West Coast shook, South shook, North shook, overseas shook, and Bahamas shook. We used to walk into Atlanta f***ing deep. And look, I’m not saying it in a way where I’m dissing; I’m saying this as a scholar. I’m saying take a look at MC’s claiming New York, claiming East Coast, claiming they the kings of sh*t in New York. Then compare our kingdom in ’88.

When we were spitting in ’88, nobody else was spitting! F*** that! And if you were spitting it was Too Short spitting the raw, N.W.A. was spitting the raw. King Tee was spitting the raw, that’s all West Coast.

That’s my point, this is a democracy. You don’t reign forever. You’re supposed to let someone to come after you and let them take that sh*t somewhere further. My problem is my peers. All of ya’ll are b######, all of ya’ll. We could have been so much smarter with Hip-Hop and we never did. If you think Hip-Hop is big now, we bullsh*tted our way to right now. When we were talking about organizing and getting sh*t together, we was bullsh*tting.”

Warren G. Taps Ray J, Paul Wall Others For G-Files

Veteran West Coast producer and rapper Warren G is putting the finishing touches on his sixth solo album The G Files, which is due out in October.

In an exclusive interview with AllHipHop.com, Warren G shed light on the vision he has planned for the album.

“I don’t like to put a whole bunch of guest appearances of artists that are known, but I do like to take the unknown talent and let them get in,” Warren G explained to AllHipHop.com, alluding to his past work with artists such as Bishop Lamont, Ice Cube, Tha Dogg Pound and others. “So that way I can help them jump start their careers.”

One well known name confirmed for the album is singer Ray J, who is featured on the second single “Crush.”

While surprising to many, Warren discloses that the fit was natural.

“I knew him since he was a young buck hanging out at Snoop’s house,” he stated. “I called him up like ‘dude, I got this hot record, the hook is ready all you gotta do is learn it.’ He jumped on it and laid it down. The record’s been bubbling ever since.”

Warren verified that he will do his fair share of rhyming on the album.

However, the Grammy-nominated producer made it clear that his primary focus is providing the signature G-Funk sound that’s defined his career.

“I’m a producer,” states a steadfast Warren G. “I’m not one of those cats that’s gonna get on and say ‘I’m an incredible MC that should be in the top 5’ and all that. I’m not saying I can’t rap because I can, but I’m a producer first.”

While West Coast Hip-Hop continues to thrive on a regional level, nationally many talented artists fail to gain exposure in today’s climate.

As a West Coast artist whose name is still well-known to the general public, Warren G plans to use The G Files to create new avenues for artists in his region.

“I can be the door-opener because there’s a gang of talent out here and they ain’t got no avenues. Either you go through Interscope or you go through…sh*t I don’t even know who else!” Warren laughed. “The doors ain’t being opened. The talent not being heard out here is incredible.”

The G Files will also feature appearances from Snoop Dogg, Paul Wall, Lil Keke, and former Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker.

The album is scheduled for release on October 28.

T.I.: Southern Gentleman

The T.I. that you read about in the media is presently the exact opposite of the T.I. that sits before you to discuss his upcoming album Paper Trail. Perhaps that’s a continuation of his T.I. vs. T.I.P. alter ego, or maybe he’s just growing up. T.I.’s “paper trail” runs thick, including banknotes and legal documents, but none that would call him a snitch. Regardless of the media hype – from tons of guns to Shawty Lo and 50 Cent drama to b#### slapping Luda’s manager Chaka Zulu – T.I. is as calm as ever, reflecting on the past, accepting it, and moving forward. T.I.’s involvement with the law reads like a well-dressed crime novel, inevitably forcing him to lose his right to vote. That doesn’t stop him from respecting yours, as his Respect My Vote campaign with the Hip-Hop Caucus is currently one of his main focuses, among other things. He even proudly dons a Respect My Vote t-shirt. Besides that, T.I. has a budding acting career, a new son, and a love life that he chooses to play like Jayonce and keep on the low. Let’s not forget the album, Paper Trail, available on “Grand Hustle Day” September 30th – a release date that he shares with labelmate Big Kuntry. As T.I. sits back and reflects on the past year, he explains his formula for peace – accepting God in your life, and letting your momma do whatever she wants with the house you bought her.AllHipHop.com: So first things first, you know we’re anticipating your album Paper Trail.T.I: September 30th.    AllHipHop.com: Yes. And it’s been quite an interesting year; it’s a change for you. Does the album reflect that at all?T.I: Absolutely. This album as all of my other albums is indeed a reflection of my life, what I’m going through, how I’m getting through it, my mind state, my emotional state.T.I. “Whatever You Like”AllHipHop.com: Many people consider King to be an epic album. T.I: Thank you.AllHipHop.com: In the albums that followed King, did you always feel that you had to make albums that had to compete with it at all?T.I: No. King represented me in that period of my life. There are certain elements in my life that have changed dramatically, so there’s no way I can compete with that. I have to make an album that’s true to my current situation. That’s not just for [Paper Trail], that’s for T.I vs. T.I.P. I made an album that was true and relevant to the person that I was at that time. This album’s the same, the next album will be the same and so on and so forth.AllHipHop.com: What would you consider your mind state to be right now?T.I: Calm. Secure. I think that I really drifted business wise. I spent so much time sitting still not being able to conduct business – to make a move to take advantage of opportunities – so right now I’m trying to make up for all that lost time.AllHipHop.com: Now you’ve had a few brushes with the law…[T.I. laughs and spits out the coffee he’s sipping]T.I: That was funny how you tried to understate that statement. That was funny, yeah.AllHipHop.com: What would you consider to be some lessons learned?T.I: Um…let me see, lessons learned – through God all things are possible. We learn that the decisions you make can very well affect your future. We learn that there’s no status that you can be that supersedes poor judgment, and you learn that walking with guns and fire is [as] safe as walking with God. AllHipHop.com: Did you want to clear up anything going on with the Shawty Lo situation? I’m sure that there’s kind of been a back and forth type of thing.T.I: Yeah, but you know what? I’ma end that right here. I ain’t speaking on it, it’s over for me. I don’t want to speak anymore. I ain’t speaking on it.AllHipHop.com: So it’s a done deal.T.I: Done deal for me. All my beefs, situations and issues with anybody, you know it’s been done for me in my head. But if you know what I’m just saying it’s just I’m saying verbally I’m through. I got other stuff, I gotta bring little son up you know what I’m sayin’? That’s a thing I need to do. It’s real trivial from my angle.AllHipHop.com: Yeah and with the whole 50 Cent snitching situation, you kind of took on the same kind of mentality, though. Like it’s not worth it.T.I: I’m not…I mean you know, I worry about the truth and to be quite honest with you, I ain’t got myself into any situation for anybody in regards to anything that wasn’t true. So I shouldn’t even be involving myself in matters that don’t end and begin with truth. You know somebody can say something about me that’s true then maybe, maybe just maybe. I mean I got too much on my plate right now, it’s just really no time.  And I’m really just blessed to be here and I’m not gon’…I’m not gon’ slap the powers that be, being God, in the face by involving myself in anything that’s just like I said trivial, unimportant. If anybody ever been in a situation similar to mine, you already know once your agreement has been agreed to, it’s supposed to work with journalists, press, people. You know you can Google my name T.I is agreed with you know what I’m saying? It’s gon’ pop off and any of those claims….and [50 Cent] said he wanna talk about it, that’s what I heard, but if any of those claims – it’s not even him, it’s other people like online talking ‘bout, “Oh he did this, he did that.” If that was the truth, it would be in my agreement, all you got to do is pull my agreement up; there’s no such thing as a secret exchange. If that was the case there’d be no such thing as the witness protection program.AllHipHop.com: Right.T.I: Everyone knows that in order to get favor shown to you by the government in exchange for cooperation, you have to sign documents, you got to come to court, you got to physically point people out and at least someone saying, “Yes I am the person that he put here.”And that’s not the case. Man if I was lying, people just don’t want to excel, but God got another plan for me that supersedes the other issues; my stupidity you know what I’m saying and anyone else’s opinions. God’s plan – that’s over all – and I’m sorry if they don’t like it. I think they’re barking up the wrong tree they need to take it upstairs you know?AllHipHop.com: You’re one of the few artists that you know if trouble finds you, you accept it as a mistake and you keep moving forward. But why do you feel that people are still trying to test you then?T.I: [laughs] I don’t know, maybe ‘cause I’m good looking. I don’t know man, I guess [people] get tired of [their] little girlfriends talking about me. You know everywhere keep talking about you, keep talking about you. “I’m tired of this n***a,” you know what I’m saying? I don’t know what it is, maybe my size, maybe they feel that because of my size that I’ma be an easy [target].AllHipHop.com: So how do you manage to keep such a healthy married life you know being…?T.I: How do I manage to keep such a healthy what?AllHipHop.com: Married life.T.I: Who? [laughs]AllHipHop.com: Married life. [laughs]T.I.: [laughs]. We’re actually a couple.AllHipHop.com: Love life.T.I: Secret. Top secret. I am drawing from the book and blueprint of Jay and B you know what I’m sayin’. I see it’s obviously worked and I have seen the other way fail so many times, and I care too much about my situation to allow it to fall victim to such unfortunate circumstances. So next question. [laughs and toasts with his cup of coffee]AllHipHop.com: Taken well. So you know you’re the King of the South… T.I: Yeah.

“You can call me the King you can call me rubberband man, you can call [Wayne] the monster, the greatest rapper alive, just call the South number one when you do it.”

AllHipHop.com: But with the rise of Lil Wayne do you feel that’s affecting your title at all?T.I: No, that’s my partner you know. I salute, I salute. Shorty just like if I come out and if I say it more than him when his album’s released it’s not gonna affect his title as the best rapper alive you know what I’m sayin’? Like we co-exist with one another, we have a mutual understanding, respect for one another. I mean I don’t ever claim to be able to do what he do nor does he claim to be able to do what I do. We both have our own positions that we play, but our main goal/focus is make sure that the South stay on top. So you can call me the King you can call me rubberband man, you can call [Wayne] the monster, the greatest rapper alive, just call the South number one when you do it.AllHipHop.com: How did you get a song with Ludacris [“Wish You Would”] after the situation with his management?T.I: I told you, I’m done with all that. When I say I’m done with that, I ain’t just talking you know? I’m doing everything in my power if I can to move forward, and that’s just an example of that. But you know me and ‘Cris have always spoke. We never had no problems – we speak, he has my number. I have his. It’s always been that way. I’ve never known – and I’ve went at it with a lot of cats – but I’ve never had such worthy competition. As a mutual respect you know I’m sure that [Ludacris] has to acknowledge my contributions just like I got to acknowledge his. I ain’t never been a hater and now is not the time for me to start, so we ain’t got no problems with one another. If it ain’t no beef, ain’t no reason why we shouldn’t be able to work together.Wish You Would – Ludacris ft. T.I.AllHipHop.com: True. Let’s talk about the Respect My Vote campaign.T.I: I’m working alongside the Hip Hop Caucus, and it’s a voter registration campaign and we’re doing everything in our power – from rallies to PSA’s to public appearances, television appearances, print ads, everything that we can think of to do – to create awareness and encourage masses to get out there and become a part of the decision making process. It’s special. It’s special, not only but especially young people between the ages of 18 to 29 who are not in college because the statistic of people between 18 and 29 who are not in college that don’t vote are 93 percent.     With this being the most important election of our lifetime and this being the most critical condition of the country and our lifetime, I think for us to not be a part of this process is detrimental to our progress. I’m doing everything I can – and not to mention I ain’t gonna be able to vote, so I’m just trying to make up for my minus one.If I can make up for my minus one by encouraging one million to get out there and do they thing, then I feel like my job is done. And not to mention man in 2000 man – 2000 which could arguably be said that that’s the election that got us in this whole mess to begin with – it can be arguably be said that we wouldn’t be at war, that the state of the economy would not be the same, a lot of the judicial standings would not be the same had it not been for the 2000 election. The 2000 election was decided by under 600 votes, 583 I think…under 600 votes. If 600 people would of got up, got out, did they thing we probably wouldn’t be in this situation to begin with and we cannot afford for history to repeat itself.AllHipHop.com: Why do you think the government designs the voting system to not include people who have a record?T.I: I’m not going to say anything bad about the government. [laughs] Don’t get me wrong, I’m not anti-government whatsoever. I love my country you know what I’m sayin’? I’m a patriot, I try to be. I’m a tax-paying upstanding citizen. I ain’t got nothing bad to say about my government. I mean no system is perfect, but I think even more so than that it’s up to the people to do everything in their power to work within the system. First you must understand the workings and rules of the system. Once you have knowledge of that, you now work within the system to get done what you think needs to be done. Now if you find out that the rules are this, this, this and this and you know you just don’t feel like doing it, then that’s your fault, it’s not the system’s fault. If you didn’t like it, if you think it should have been different, you should have been more involved earlier on so you could of weighed in on the decision making process whether or not it should be this way. If you fail to even become knowledgeable of the system and you go out there out of your own ignorance and then you find out in order to vote you gotta do this, you gotta do this, and this you gotta do this, well then you should’ve found out first. You should’ve researched but now all you have to do is go to HipHopCaucus.org and they’ll walk you straight through it. Just put the Playstation down for a second, come home from the club and go to HipHopCaucus.org. They’ll take care of it.AllHipHop.com: Who would you say has been one of the most positive influences in your life?T.I : I mean of course my family, my uncles, my grandfather my grandmomma, my momma, my daddy, you know. But outside of my family in recent history, I had the pleasure of speaking to and being mentored by Ambassador Andrew Young. He’s been an outstanding inspiration to do the right thing.AllHipHop.com: Growing up what was your favorite subject in school?T.I: Math.AllHipHop.com: And what did you want to be when you grew up?T.I: This.AllHipHop.com: Yeah?T.I: That’s it.AllHipHop.com: If you weren’t doing this where would you be?T.I: Real estate, construction, still business.AllHipHop.com: With some math in there.T.I: Yeah, absolutely. I got to be able to add, subtract, divide and multiply.AllHipHop.com: You’re very fortunate that your career includes the math of many album sales and stuff. How do you keep humble? How do you keep going and not get so jaded by anything?T.I: I mean I guess it would be [attributed] to my morals, standards, principles, beliefs, foundation, upbringing, my grandmom, my momma…see I know if I get out there, I can’t get big headed. My momma’ll say, “Boy you still…” My momma say, “Don’t forget where you came from.” And my momma like…’cause you know I bought – I gave my mom my old house. You know 10,000 square foot, $850,000 house. And you know she got a sub zero refrigerator, granite countertops, mahogany wood floors. She still take the plastic grocery bags and tie ’em around the knobs of the cabinets. I say, “Momma why you do that? You know you don’t have to do that.” “Oh I ain’t wasting nothing, you can’t tell me, I’ma keep my bags. I know where I came from.” “But momma you don’t have to. You need some bags I’ll get you some trash bags.” “I got trash bags, this my house.” So I’m like, “Alright momma you got it. It’s cool.” I think things like that, you know, they taught me how to withstand any conditions and how to be comfortable with the most life has to offer or the less in life or the least life has to offer. My uncle man, my uncle raised me as a man, my pops raised me as a man; not as a superstar, not as a celebrity. Stars are in the sky, people are in the streets. My status is just due to my, I guess you know, my occupation. That’s not where I end and begin. I’m a man first before anything, and I keep that in mindI don’t think I’m better than nobody else – I may look better than some people [laughs] –but I don’t think that makes me better than nobody else. I mean I’m still the same dude, I’m still the same cat, got the same friends you know I still…I live somewhere different, I enjoy different things now, but I’m still the same person man.AllHipHop.com: What kind of acting projects do you have coming up?T.I: Bone Deep is the film that I’ll be starting on in September and it’s starring Idris Elba, Matt Dillon, Chris Brown and myself. It’s an action drama movie, it’s a flick about some young, cool, fly well dressed, good looking, intelligent, articulate…bank robbers. You know, not just your shoot’em up bang bang, bust’em in the bank Set It Off bank robbers, I’m talking inside man, Ocean’s 11 heat type bank robbers. I’m one of the producers also. I’m looking forward to that.AllHipHop.com: Common was talking about how as an MC once you go through with acting and you start becoming an actor as well, the pressure off releasing that album that makes that hit is kind of easier because you know you got that acting money that’s coming in.T.I: [laughs] Well hey I don’t know about Common, I can’t really…Common done been in a few more movies than me, but I ain’t really got no money like that on acting. Both the movies I did I lost money. I put off millions of dollars, yeah, to do ATL like with touring I put [off] millions of dollars to do ATL for the opportunity and I’m glad I did it, it worked out. Now American Gangster did take off better than ATL and didn’t cost me as much, but I damn near ended up paying them to do it. But I’m not doing it for the money right now. AllHipHop.com: So there’s also a rumor that you’re in Fast and the Furious 4.T.I: I ain’t…I been hearing that rumor man! Whoever doing Fast and the Furious y’all need to holla at me, because I don’t know nothing about me being in the Fast and the Furious. I mean for real. I didn’t even know they were doing another one. Not to say that I wouldn’t do it, but I don’t know nothing about it. Do you know what the script is about? Do you know what the premise of the next one is, I don’t know?AllHipHop.com: Does it like freak you out where you know you’ll hear something like that and just be like where’d this come from?T.I: Freak me out? Nah…it’s a part of the job.AllHipHop.com: If you had known before becoming T.I what was going to happen – you know with people testing you, trying to put your stuff out in the public and everything – would you still have gotten into it?T.I: That’s a very worthy question. I don’t know. I don’t know. I don’t know man. If I knew how much hate was involved, how similar the dangers were, I don’t know. I don’t know, I probably would have. I probably would have, but can’t tell.

“I made the adjustments in my life that I feel were necessary for me to grow and expand and mature as a man. It’s unfortunate that it took such a severe situation to bring about that change, but what’s important is that the change happened.”

AllHipHop.com: Would you say at this point in time you’re 100 percent happy?T.I: 100 percent happy…yeah, yeah, yeah definitely. I think I’m happier now than I was before. I made the adjustments in my life that I feel were necessary for me to grow and expand and mature as a man. It’s unfortunate that it took such a severe situation to bring about that change, but what’s important is that the change happened, so yeah I’m happy.AllHipHop.com: What would you say is one of the smartest decisions you’ve ever made in this industry?T.I: One of the smartest decisions that I’ve ever made in this industry is to start my own company and lead my way after the first album. Let me see…and to step away from music for a minute to film ATL. Those pretty much they standout off top. The best thing for myself – and oh, to do mixtapes – the first album didn’t work, started doing mixtapes to keep myself present in the marketplace instead of just waiting on the label to do something for me.AllHipHop.com: Let’s talk about your company, Grand Hustle. Explain why you got started and talk about some of the artists that you work with.T.I: Big Kuntry King – his album comes out September 30th as well as mine – name of his album is My Time to Eat. Alfamega, I Am Alfamega comes out in October, DJ Drama he’s preparing his album and getting ready for a release later this year, hopefully by the holidays, and Young LA his single “Ain’t I” is tearing the clubs up, taking off in the South. He’s about to start on his second single. JR “Get Money” you know his first single, “Nobody But You,” ladies will love it, it’s doing very well. Let’s see 8Ball & MJG, they’re working on they album we’ve had the pleasure of welcoming them to the family. [Young] Dro. Dro has just finished his second album and picking the first single for him, he’ll be ready to go the beginning of next year. So we’re doing pretty well.AllHipHop.com: Why did you decide to put your album and the Big Kuntry album on the same day?T.I: Well because I figure people will already be in the record stores, they’ll already be encouraged to buy music, so why not support both members of the hustle while they at it?AllHipHop.com: Makes sense. So what else do you have coming up besides that?T.I: My clothing line, AKOO, a king of oneself. It’s gonna be launching October/November of this year. We’ll be at Magic, so you can catch me there and I’m proud of it. I’m looking forward to releasing it and presenting it to the world.AllHipHop.com: So when do you sleep?T.I: [laughs] Ahh not much. I don’t know man, the Lord promised me I would get enough sleep when I die, and He promised me all the sleep I want when I die.
