No Bond For DMX, Rapper Could Be Jailed Until October

Legal drama for rapper DMX continues to unfold as the entertainer sits in a Florida jail under a no bail hold status.

TMZ.com reports that DMX, born Earl Simmons, appeared in court on Friday (August 15) after a bench warrant was issued against him in Arizona for drug charges.

The rapper was arrested Thursday (August 14) while attempting to leave a Wal-Mart in Miami, Fla.

The arrest came as result of Simmons skipping a court date on Tuesday (August 12) for a pretrial conference on allegations of marijuana and drug paraphernalia possession.

The rapper had reportedly tried to surrender to police, but was taken in before negations with his lawyer were completed.

Simmons’ lawyer, Brad Cohen, waived extradition for his client and contested a no bond hold, after a $25,000 bond had previously set for Simmons.

Despite Cohen’s attempt to get a fugitive bond in the state of Florida for Simmons to return to Arizona to bond out, Judge Lawrence Schwartz upheld the no bond status, which was issued by the State of Arizona.

“I am not questioning the veracity of anything you just said to me. I would absolutely have no reason to do that,” Judge Schwartz said. “But until state of Arizona lifts its no bond status, it’s a no bond status at this point.”

As a result of the ruling, Simmons will have to stay in jail in Florida until his October 2 court hearing for a possession charge he obtained in Miami.

Cohen later told TMZ he would have the rapper released before the hearing if everything is straightened out.

OUT OF BOUNDS: The Week That Was

Now that the whole Brett Favre Saga is over, it’s now time to get back into the swing of things with the NFL Training Camps. Since the saga has finally ended, or so we think; the past week has been slow. Fear not my fellow followers of the NFL, for I have come with news and tidbits from across the land.  So let’s look at some of the headlines from this week in the NFL.

S.F. 49ers cut Moore, sign Spikes

The San Francisco 49ers cut 6-year LB Brandon Moore this past Sunday to make room for 10-year veteran LB Takeo Spikes.  Moore, who had been with the 49ers since 2002, had one of his worst statistical season’s last year.  He averaged 22 tackles with 2.5 sacks last season for the NFL’s 25th ranked Defense.

Spikes will join a young 49ers defense that consists of Manny Lawson, Nate Clements, and the league leader in the tackles, Patrick Willis.  Spikes, who played for the Philadelphia Eagles last season, had 1 sack with 8 tackles last season in 14 games.  64 of those tackles were solo.

Two days after his release, Moore signed a 1-year deal with the Arizona Cardinals.

At least the 49ers’ Defense looks solid.  That’s more than I can say about their offense since the 49ers are riding the QB carousel.

Poor Alex Smith, the 49ers invested all that money in him and he may end up as the 3rd string QB on the team. Hey, at least he’s getting paid.

Safeties need work too…

Also, two unemployed Safeties found work last week as well.

One time Safety for “The Fastest Team on Turf”; Adam Archuleta signed with the Oakland Raiders last week.  Archuleta played Safety for the St. Louis Rams for five years.  He then signed with the Washington Redskins in 2006 and the Chicago Bears in 2007.

Archuleta will assume a new role with the Raiders. He’s going for the Safety position to Linebacker.  A position he once played during his time at Arizona State

Archuleta joins a solid Raiders’ defense with the addition of CB DeAngelo Hall.

16-year veteran, John Lynch, signed a 1 year contract with the New England Patriots last week as well.  Lynch, who played for the Denver Broncos last season, was a member of the 2003 Super Bowl Champions, Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Expect big things from Lynch in the Pats’ Defense.  This team never “rebuilds”.  They just “reload”.  Know we can see why they are the favorites to go to the Super Bowl again this year.

Pennington, Leftwich practiced with new teams

The former QBs from Marshall practiced with their new teams last week.

Chad Pennington, who was cut from the NY Jets after the Brett Favre trade, signed with the Miami Dolphins. Byron Leftwich, who was let go by the Atlanta Falcons at the end of last season, signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers

Pennington should be a lock at the starter position for the Phins, as long as he stays healthy. Leftwich is fighting for the #2 QB spot on the Steelers’ roster with Charlie Batch.

Profootballtalk.com has a picture of the two QBs meeting up before they head out to their respective training camps.  You gotta love those kooky guys at Pro Football Talk.

Brett Favre starts his 1st game as a member of the NY Jets

What would a football article be without word about Favre? He started his 1st game last night for the NY Jets against the Washington Redskins. Favre was 5-of-6 for 48 yards and the touchdown to rookie TE Dustin Keller in the 1st quarter.

Favre threw the ball with the same “gun slinger” zip we’ve seen him throw for years and   the Jets moved the ball well down the field. If his performance in the 1st quarter is a glimpse of the season to come, it looks as though the Jets may have won in the end in the Brett Favre saga. On a side note:

SICK SUNDAY:Cas & Gunz bring Body Bags, UGK Loves South Hip-Hop, T.I. & ‘Lo Continue Worst Beef Ever

Another week bites the dust my dudes.  Brett Farve steps back on the football field, Michael Phelps did his favorite impression of Prince Namor the Submariner, and Team USA beat the living dog s***t out of Spain. In addition to the two profound losses last week, the music industry lost Jerry Wexler.  Shout to Usain Bolt who blew the entire field of the track in the 100 meter dash.

Gearing up for AllHipHop Week (stay tuned for announcements) Harlem Week (Which is really like Harlem Month), the Democratic National Convention (Hillary still hustlin’) and Vlad’s Lawsuit (I saw pics, not a 4 million dollar  beating, but people should tell they entourage to chill out) and dealing with the fallout, both positive and negative from the ozone awards.  Been a fast month, but a long opening so without further ado let’s get it!

T.I. “What Up”

The drama continues as T. I. gives a not so subtle jab at Shawty Lo.  We’ve been watching this thing unfold and in the grand scheme of things musically it just really isn’t a contest. Even further apart in talent than the Jay-z /Jim Jones farce. Lackluster as far as these types of songs go rhyme scheme and hater talk is pedestrian.  You can see people getting hype and it’s listenable, but if you don’t know that there’s beef attached, it’s just another stop jocking me hater song.  T.I. is bigger than that.

Shawty Lo “Knew It”

Man.  This is just close to the worst.  First it sounds like the president of the Young Jeezy Fan club dropped a song.  After you get past that, it’s pretty much the same talky flow as “What up” and a bunch of other songs.  More crotch grabbing anti snitch  accusatory rhetoric.  I’m sure some one somewhere is eating this up, but I can’t imagine the world going crazy over this.  The beat is trap song X as well.

These two songs are an example of how beef can side track you from your mission and your musical identity. Fellas, break bread, ignore each other or whatever but both of you are better than these songs.  Just stop.

Youre Everything – Bun B feat. Rick Ross, David Banner, 8Ball & MJG

Bun B feat. Rick Ross, David Banner, 8Ball & MJG-“You’re Everything”

And now, for some good stuff from the Durty. This sounds like a love song to Southern Hip-Hop from the good folks south of the Mason Dixon.  If you don’t feel that way it’s all good, but key in on MJG’s verse and see if you get what I’m saying.   Officer Ross, David Banner and 8Ball all ut in stellar performances, but it is Bun B and MJG who really bring out the essence of this joint. Dig it.

Big BoiFeat. Raekwon, Andre 3000-“Royal Flush”

It’s good to hear Dre and Big Boi together rhyming on the same track, and with Rae riding shot gun like it was 10 years ago, you’d think it was magic.  Not quite.  I think the culprit here is the music, the production on this feels disjointed.  Perhaps it’s a piece of a larger ensemble, but it just isn’t as smooth as I’m used to hearing them. It’s not as seamless. Solid track lyrically and Dre bats cleanup like few rappers in history can, but this doesn’t sound like they were in the studio together.

Cassidy Feat. Corey Gunz- “Body Bagz”

Heat. Corey Gunz opens up with illness (you broke nose for trying to Mike Jones my o zone…bwahahahah) and Cassidy the Hustler (Shout to Smothe) hops on afterward on a mission not to get murdered on his own track.. While his flow isn’t as ill, the lyrics and delivery more than make up for it and his a capella ending puts the proverbial boot on the throat.  Body bags indeed

Busta Rhymes Feat. Ludacris, Lil Wayne;”Throw It Up”

Man how much heat does Busta have to drop to make the market give a f**k?  I haven’t heard anything weak from him in recent memory and the world just doesn’t seem to care.  The song itself is formulaic, but it bumps.  You would hope that with outrageous flowers like Busta, Wayne and Luda that the format would more more than linear punchline layups.

Billy Danze “Im’a Kill ‘Ya”

If you owe Billy Danze, you hould probably pay him. I know some of you got your Styles P’s and your Hell Rells and all that, but no body is more hardcore than Billy on the mic. You can bet a Brownsville ass whipping on that. DV Alias Krist  signing on the hook. Singing too long on the hook. It still ain’t the same without Fizzy Wo’, but this is solid mixtape fodder. Respect the jux.

Ice Cube “Why Me” Raw Footage

Ice Cube delivers once again.  Decades into the game he still manages to deliver originality and flavor.  In this song, Cube raps first person in the frame of a murder victim speaking to his murderer.  It’s ill without being sappy or morbid. Worth listening to.

*************************************************************************** Overtime

There’s been a lot of talk out there about how old rapper should retire and step off the stage but really none of the young dudes have proven themselves talented enough to get it done (Don’t get it twisted Wayne is almost 30) Well I nominate Corey Gunz. He’s got the lienage, the youth, the skills, the talent and most importantly the hunger. Here’s something to get you familiar if you don’t know. Peace out, football season coming soon my dudes.

Sunday Selection: Brandy – “Right Here (Departed)”

It’s been almost four years

since R&B sensation Brandy released any music. Has anyone missed

her? I don’t know about you, but I have. Brandy has always been unique

in her own way – whether she’s singing, acting or modeling. I must

say that I’m glad that she’s making a comeback. There’s no need

to revisit the ups and down that Brandy has experienced in the last

few years, but it’s refreshing to know that she hasn’t let those

trials and tribulations hold her down.

This past week, I had the pleasure

of meeting Brandy for the first time. She looked great! She was all

smiles, very very humble and thin as a rail, but that’s ok we all

know she doesn’t eat any meat!

But anyway, I got to hear her

new single “Right Here (Departed).” Initially, I wasn’t sure about

the song. Brandy has had some hits over the years, and even though this

song is decent, I don’t think I’m going to put it in her category

of “hits.” “I Wanna Be Down,” “Baby,” “Best Friend,”

“The Boy is Mine,” “Almost Doesn’t Count,” “Full Moon,”

and “Have You Ever” – those were all hits, but this song is missing

the same staying power.

I love the message in “Right

Here (Departed)” which speaks about people supporting one another

when times get tough, similar to her relationship between her and her

fans. In my opinion, it comes across as more of an album cut or third

single as opposed to the first single after a four year hiatus. But

then again, I guess the song portrays Brandy’s true feelings, so she

wanted to come back expressing just that. What do you think – Hot or

Not? Brandy is set to drop a new

album titled Human in November, but prior to then, I’m hoping

she’ll drop another single that’s bangin’!Until next week, y’all enjoy

this week’s Sunday Selection – “Right Here (Departed)”

Yung Joc Sued Over Back Child Support

Rap star Yung Joc is being sued for back child support by the mother of his seven-year-old son, according to reports.

Local Atlanta television channel WSB-TV reports that Yung Joc, born Jasiel Robinson, owes about $2,000 dollars in back child support.

According to Fatimah Jester, the rapper has made it difficult to collect payments for Yung Joc’s son Amoni.

“I never thought he would be putting me through some of the stuff I’m going through now. I can’t even get in contact with him for things for my baby…it’s just hard,” Jester told WSB-TV. “Mr. Robinson has all kinds of cars, Bentleys, Mercedes Benz, Ranger Rovers, Two Range rovers.”

Jester says that while Yung Joc is earning millions through his career as a chart topping rapper, she and their son struggle financially on a day-to-day basis.

Lawyers for Jester are attempting to serve Yung Joc with court papers, but they have had difficulty locating the rapper.

The case will go before a judge on September 11.

LVPD: “Tupac’s Murder Will Stay Cold Without Community Help”

Tupac Shakur’s murder case is approaching its 12th year and remains no closer to being officially solved, a fact the Las Vegas Homicide Department wants to change.

In an exclusive interview with AllHipHop.com, Las Vegas Police Department representative Ramon Denby detailed the current status of the investigation and dispelled rumors of the case being closed.

“We never close murder investigations,” Officer Denby clarified. “But the case has gone cold, meaning there are no active or hot leads.”

Tupac Shakur was gunned down in a drive-by shooting on September 7, 1996 on the Las Vegas Strip.

He succumbed to respiratory failure and cardiopulmonary arrest six days later.

The murder happened just three hours after Shakur was involved in a fight with Southside Crip member Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson.

While considered a suspect, the LVPD could not directly link Anderson to the slaying due to lack of evidence and witnesses.

Anderson was himself gunned down in 1998.

Tupac’s mother Afeni Shakur had a wrongful death suit pending at the time of Anderson’s death.

Despite the killing happening in a public setting with dozens of witnesses, no arrests have been made in the murder.

Much criticism has been leveled at the LVPD, who some accuse of apathy in their diligence to pursue all leads and theories in the slaying.

The LVPD counters by arguing murder investigations rely heavily on witnesses, a fact that has severely hampered any progress on Tupac’s case.

“We are ready to follow up on any information that comes our way,” Denby states. “But we need cooperation from the Hip-Hop community and the witnesses that were present. Without them, the case cannot move forward. There are people who know what happened and we continue to urge them to step forward.”

There are currently two detectives assigned to the investigation, which is now in the Cold Cases Department.

When asked if he could disclose the last time there was a substantial lead, Officer Denby invoked police confidentiality.

“We really can’t put that out there,” he reveals. “Once facts like that are out there in the media it can hurt the case by possibly deterring potential witnesses and others from coming forward.”

To conclude, Denby offered another plea to the Hip-Hop community to help solve the case.

“If you (AllHipHop.com) can get this out there please do so. We urge anyone with any information to step forward,” he states. “We will exhaust any new leads or information. We are ready to do our part, but we need the community to do theirs to close this matter.”

Tupac Amaru Shakur would have turned 37 this year, had he survived.

DJ Vlad Sues Rick Ross For $4 Million Over Alleged Assault

Popular personality DJ Vlad has filed a $4 million dollar assault and battery lawsuit against rapper Rick Ross, stemming from an altercation at the Ozone Awards (August 10).

In federal documents filed yesterday in NY District Court, DJ Vlad, born Vlad Lyubovny, alleges that “with calculated planning, Rick Ross lured DJ Vlad to a meeting for the purpose of obtaining retribution.

At that meeting, Rick Ross’ entourage of thugs carried out Rick Ross’ wishes in his presence and severely beat DJ Vlad causing permanent bodily injury.”

According to Vlad, the beating was due to his coverage on Vladtv.com of reports that Ross previously worked as a correction officer.

The attack has left Vlad with 7 stitches below the eye, three fractures to the face, a corneal abrasion and possible permanent nerve damage.

The court documents also claim that Ross sent text messages to Vlad that preceded that attack.

“N*ggas will learn…trillaaa,” Ross is alleged to have sent to Vlad. “I’m hearing things about me on your website. We gonna make a story. We gonna see each other. We going to talk. Where are you?”

In the lawsuit, DJ Vlad states he thought the purpose of the meeting was to give Ross the chance to tell his side in an exclusive story.

After a brief conversation, Vlad charges that the Miami rapper bluntly stated “we got beef” and “Ross’ accomplices, who had surrounded DJ Vlad while he spoke with Ross, proceeded to strike and beat DJ Vlad in Ross’ presence and without any protest on Ross’ part.”

Rick Ross’ latest album Trilla was released in March and has sold over 600,000 copies.

DJ Vlad currently runs the news site Vladtv.com out of New York City which provides interviews and information on Hip-Hop artists.

At press time Rick Ross could not be reached for comment on the lawsuit, which seeks $2 million dollars in punitive damages and and $2 million in compensatory damages.

DJ Vlad is wrapping up an episode of American Gangster about Mac Dre and the notorious Romper Room Gang.

EXCLUSIVE: Game Details Jay-Z ‘Beef’

Contrary to the impression created by a recent radio interview, The Game says he has no desire to engage in a battle of words with Jay-Z.

This comes after the Cali rapper’s comments with Phoenix radio personality Chino of 104.7 KISS FM, during which he broached the subject of beefing with Jay, making statements that appeared to be batting the former Def Jam president.

But Game clarifies that the statements were made in response to an alleged incident of which he has no proof.

“I heard that Jay sorta said something about me at the Wimbledon tennis match,” The Game told AllHipHop.com exclusively. “I didn’t see him say it, I didn’t hear no audio so I don’t really know if he was dissing me, if he said something about me.”

Rumors of animosity between the two artists surfaced in 2005, following the release of a Jay-Z freestyle verse that seemed to be taking aim at the then G-Unit member.

Still, while Game says he recognizes Jay-Z’s ability to subliminally attack an opponent, something which he says he’s incorporated into his own style, the rapper maintains he has no desire to fuel the rumor mill.

“What people don’t know about Jay is Jay is probably the most witty rapper that ever walked the face of the earth,” Game explained. “He’s witty, he’s clever. His metaphors will be sitting right next to you and then hit you in the face so hard that you don’t know what happened. That’s the type of rapper Jay is. I was molded by that part of him and added that to my own persona and my own marksmanship as an emcee.

“Jay-Z’s a legend, man. I respect his music, [but that] doesn’t really mean I have to respect him if he’s disrespecting me. The Jay that was talking about me at Wimbeldon under his breath, or says anything about me, is the Jay that I’ll go at, and that’s just it. Jay the rap artist, Jay the legend, Jay from Marcy Projects; that hustler turned dope artist, turned probably best lyricist that ever lived: I have respect for. I’m not gonna add wood to a fire that’s already burning out.”

LAX, which Game has said will be his last offering as an artist, is due in stores on August 26.

The star-studded opus features appearances by Lil’ Wayne, Nas, Common, Ludacris, Raekwon and Ice Cube, as well as R&B inflections courtesy of Bilal, Chrisette Michelle, Raheem DeVaughn, Ne-Yo, and Keyshia Cole, who appears on the album’s lead single “Game’s Pain.”

The album also serves as a springboard for Game’s renewed focus on building his Black Wall Street imprint.

“I have a slew of producers and I’m starting to develop artists and getting more focused,” he says. “This my third album, and it’s time to focus on my folks. And my label. The camp’s on the album. So we’re just learning each other, growing as a family, and we’re gonna do big things in 2009 and the years to come.”

LAX features productions by two of BWS’s producers: Tre Beatz and E.P., contributed three tracks and served as the album’s executive producer.

P. Miller Launches Better Black Television

Entrepreneur P. Miller today confirmed the launch of Better Black Television, a family-oriented cable network set to debut in 2009.

Dubbed BBTV, the network promises to cover the diverse experience of African-American culture by offering a myriad of genres: politics, movies, teen and children’s educational programming, animation, sports, and news.

In response to the criticism leveled at BET’s music video choices, the network has guaranteed to deliver “responsible Hip-Hop music and videos.”

P. Miller will oversee the channel as its chairman and CEO.

The advisory board team includes Oscar winner Denzel Washington, NAACP executive director Vicangelo Bullock, Hip-Hop founder Kool Herc, cable industry veteran Professor Sal Martino, and real estate mogul Curtis Oakes.

While seen as a risky business endeavor, Miller states he’s planned this venture for several years and feels he has gathered a strong team to uphold his vision.

“I believe that there is a market in our community for a new diverse network,” he explains. “(A network) that provides superior programming that caters to all aspects of television, from reality to original programming. We believe TV content can be positive and responsible and still have good ratings with great content.”

Aware that his network will be seen as a direct challenge to Viacom and its BET and MTV brands, Miller remained diplomatic on his competition.

“I have a great relationship with BET and MTV and will continue to work with them and support their networks,” he states.

Miller also had kind words for controversial BET founder Bob Johnson, who he credits as a mentor to his cable network plans.

“I remember him telling me back in the day that if you wanted to know real estate, you’ve got to hang out with real estate investors,” Miller explicates. “If you wanted to know sports, you’ve got to hang out with athletes. I wanted to know TV, so I hung out with Bob and learned the TV game from one of the best in the business.”

BBTV’s news programs have begun airing in Florida, Louisiana, California, and New York.

At press time, the network is purchasing local cable channel affiliates in preparation for its 2009 debut.

The Last Word: Rohan Marley Speaks On Lauryn Hill, Amy Winehouse Gets Her Own Video Game, and Prince Hates On a Dentist’s Dream

What’s real, people? Another week in the can and talk is still going around about John Edwards coming clean about his marital indiscretion, the Russia-Georgia conflict and the tight medal race at the Olympics between the US and China. R.I.P. to Bernie Mac, who died Saturday (Aug. 9) at the age of 50. George Clooney said it best, “The world just got a little less funny. He will be missed dearly.” Shout out to the sounding boards for making life easy between paydays. So what is this…the Last Word for the week ending Aug. 15, 2008. 1. Amy Winehouse Stars in Her Own Video Game; Tops Nightmare List To have your own video game is a dream come true for many people, particularly athletes, pro wrestlers and movie characters. It’s rare that singers get that type of treatment (Anybody remember the Michael Jackson Moonwalker video game?). But Amy Winehouse has made the cut with a new online game modeled after her well-publicized behavior. The game, called Escape from Rehab, features an animated version of the 24-year-old embattled songstress as she attempts to rescue her husband Blake Civil-Fielder from jail. Gamers can help Amy with her mission by choosing different weapons to her help her break out of a clinic, everything from crack pipes to syringes. The animated Amy even battles the Hulk, Hellboy and Batman while quoting the catchy “No, No, No” from her breakthrough hit “Rehab” in the game, which also allows players to use the character to throw booze and knock people out with what Now Magazine labeled as the singer’s “rock hard beehive.” Escape From Rehab is a promotional tool for the upcoming film Disaster Movie. If this is the case with Amy, maybe the highly anticipated Bobby Brown game, Soultastic: Absence of Right Mind, will finally make its way to stores. Maybe putting your personal issues in video game form can work for him as well. Just what we need. Another way for crack to kill. And if you still can’t get enough of Miss Winehouse, maybe you can dream about her. Or be like those overseas who’ve had the singer appear in their nightmares. Winehouse topped a Travelodge survey of celebrities and politicians who currently occupy British people’s nightmares. Other celebs featured in the survey were rocker Marilyn Manson, American Idol judge Simon Cowell and the former Mrs. Paul McCartney Heather Mills. Are things that bad that you have nightmares about Amy Winehouse? As if people don’t have anything else to wake them out of their restful sleep. Next thing you know, people will compare Amy to Freddy Kruger. What kind of f**kery is this? Indeed.2. Prince Rains on Dentist’s Purple Dream If you’re thinking about covering any song from Prince, you might want to reconsider. According to reports, His Purpleness has banned Andrew Bain from covering his classic 1984 hit “Purple Rain.” Bain, a dentist for England’s National Health Service (NHS), is known for performing operatic versions of modern songs. He was signed to Sony BMG after sending the label his operatic version of “Purple Rain.” Although the cover impressed Sony BMG, Prince was less than thrilled as he refuses to allow Bain to include his version of “Purple Rain” on his forthcoming debut album. “Without Purple Rain I wouldn’t be where I am today,” Bain said after learning he would not be able to have the song on his project. “I struggled until I took a chance, mixed my operatic style with pop in ‘Purple Rain,’ and realized my dreams.” Although he didn’t get Prince’s approval, Bain did get the green light to cover songs from David Bowie, Bryan Adams and ABBA. I’m a Prince fan as well, but it is Time for a ReVoLuTIoN. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.3. Aretha, Patti and Dionne Remember Isaac Hayes As if the death of Bernie Mac wasn’t hard to take, this past weekend saw the loss of another revered entertainer with the passing of composer/musician Isaac Hayes on Sunday (Aug. 10).Best known for winning the Oscar for his 1971 hit theme to the movie Shaft, Hayes’ influence on music is still being felt today through numerous artists and music makers. The entertainer’s death stuck a chord among legendary singers Aretha Franklin, Patti LaBelle and Dionne Warwick, who shared their memories with Access Hollywood and E!”It was so sad to hear about Isaac Hayes. So musically advanced and timeless in his compositions. He was loved and appreciated by so many,” said Franklin, who called the singer “an enduring symbol of the struggle of the African-American man” as well as “a shining example of soul at its best. God bless.”For LaBelle, it was Hayes’ ability to perform in spite of being less than 100 percent physically that she remembers. “I last saw Isaac a while back in Washington, D.C. at a concert where we were both performing,” she said. “Although he was under the weather, he was still performing. He was the man – he had ‘the show must go on’ spirit. In his absence, he will be remembered through his great music. He will forever be in our hearts and souls. God bless his family.”News of the death came as a major blow to Warwick who admitted that “I’ve lost one of my best buddies and it is not easy to reckon with…I know one can never put a question mark where God puts a period, so I will not question the Almighty’s decision to call him home…He was my ‘family.’”Condolences go out to Hayes’ family. He will be missed.4. Rohan Marley Sheds A Little Light on Lauryn HillAlthough she is among the most talented rappers and singers to bless us with her song stylings, Lauryn Hill has treaded on Britney Spears and Amy Winehouse territory where her sporadic recording projects and questionable public behavior has overshadowed her musical legacy. And while we’re still trying to figure out if L-Boogie will make that long-awaited return, the father of her five children, Rohan Marley, is offering a bit of insight into the former Fugees member in the Aug. 18, issue of People magazine. As for what she’s been doing with her time, Marley sums it up by citing Lauryn’s kids. “She loves [suburban life], being with her children, seeing them grow and instilling our teachings of righteousness to them,” he told People. “[She does] what regular people do: She cooks, shops, goes to restaurants, regular things…She became more in tune with the earth.”While that’s all good, there’s still the matter of those odd appearances and performances. Anyone who has seen Hill live over the last couple of years can vouch that her live set is anything but spectacular. But Rohan is adamant in his faith in the diva, who decline to comment for the People story.”Down and depressed? No,” Marley said. “They tell the record label, ‘She’s crazy,’ and then the next minute they say, ‘Oh, Rohan, can you call Lauryn [for me]?’ It’s hypocrisy.”Although it’s good to see Rohan speaking up for her. I, like everybody else, would love to see the old Lauryn come back stronger than ever. And with this year marking the 10th anniversary of the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, there has to be something more for us fans to listen to. Word on the street is L-Boogie is in the lab working on her sophomore album. Hopefully, we will all win one rather than face the loss of another one.   In Other Words… * Alicia Keys has become the latest celebrity to endorse Vitamin Water. The singer, who revealed her favorite flavor to be lemonade-like Multi-V joins fellow entertainers and Vitamin Water promoters 50 Cent and Jennifer Aniston in backing the product. * Looks like someone has gotten their hands on some unreleased tunes from Chris Brown.
