Rich Homie Quan Sues Label For Over $2 Million

Rich Homie Quan is set to go to war with his label and the founder, Girvan Henry and Think It’s A Game Entertainment, LLC.

The rapper, whose real name is Dequantes Lamar, seems more than $2 million in unpaid eargings from Henry and TIG. He has also severed ties with them as well.

According to court documents filed today with the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, Atlanta Division, Quan alleged he TIG Entertainment violated a partnership agreement that would sell his music. A press release future details his grievances.

Court documents outline 12-counts that claim Henry has not accounted for, nor paid monies earned by Quan, including royalties, for at least four albums, which featured songs including “Flex” and RIAA Gold Certified, international hit “Type of Way.” The suit names Def Jam Recordings via a partnership with Henry, and Trinidad James’ record label, Gold Gang Music Group, LLC, by which Def Jam paid Henry and Gold Gang $550,000 and distributed “Type of Way.” Quan says Henry and Gold Gang had no rights to the song’s masters and he never signed a record deal with Def Jam or Gold Gang.

Rich Homie Quan also charges that Henry misappropriated funds derived Def Jam for “Type of Way” and bought a home in Atlanta. The suit also claims that Henry used Fly Merchandise to sell and profit from merchandise with Quan’s logo on it.

In addition, Quan claims that Henry, through Fly Merchandise Enterprises, LLC fraudulently claimed ownership of a logo that included Quan’s name and Henry profited from the use of that logo.
Henry misrepresented ownership of Rich Homie Quan’s name, likeness and logo marks by filing two trademark applications with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office (U.S. Reg. Nos. 4,483,756 and 4,746,133).

Quan’s litigation attorney, Leron Rogers said: “Unfortunately this is a classic case of a music artist being ripped off by those claiming to have his best interest in mind. Quan has more than delivered on his part of the partnership, delivering hit songs that have sold hundreds of thousands of copies. Mr. Henry has taken advantage of Quan, and now it’s time for him to receive his just due.”

“Quan has worked really hard to achieve his vision of becoming a successful artist. He deserves to be compensated in a fair and just manner. While it is unfortunate that he has had to seek resolution of this issue through the legal system, we fully expect that justice will prevail,” co-counsel, Brianna Williams of Mélange, a Williams Firm.

Young Thug’s Road Manager Claims Birdman Is Responsible For Lil Wayne Tour Bus Shooting

(AllHipHop News) Bryan “Birdman” Williams may have told Power 105’s Angie Martinez he was not involved in the shooting that left Lil Wayne’s tour bus riddled with bullets, but the man currently in custody for the crime reportedly says the Cash Money Records head played a role in the incident.

TMZ reports:

Jimmy Winfrey claims in new court docs he shouldn’t be singled out for the crime, when “[Birdman’s] financial dispute with [Lil Wayne] is what ultimately led to the shooting.”

So, Winfrey argues, “[Birdman] should be held liable as a party to the crime.” He’s not specifically saying Birdman ordered the hit, but essentially that’s what he’s saying.

Winfrey (aka PeeWee Roscoe) was employed as Atlanta rapper Young Thug’s road manager. A Cobb County, Georgia indictment in the Winfrey case named both Thug and Birdman as possible co-conspirators in a plot to kill Wayne.

The Young Money leader has been trying to break from Birdman’s CMR imprint. He later sued the company for unpaid royalties and album advances. Wayne was also involved in a very public feud with Thug earlier this year.

Neither Birdman nor Young Thug have been formally charged in connection to the tour bus shooting in Atlanta. Last week Birdman denied he would ever try to harm the man he refers to as his “son.”

“That’s like the craziest sh*t I ever heard in my life,” said Birdman about the allegations he tried to have Wayne murdered. “I’m passionate about my family, my kids, and my life. Nothing means more to me.”

FRESH HEAT – Anthony Lewis ft. AV LMKR – “Caught Up”

Anthony Lewis continues his string of hot releases, this time teaming with AV LMKR for the catchy “Caught Up.” The rising R&B star is set to join the upcoming Scream Nation “Back 2 School” Fest 2015 tour with Rich Homie Quan, K Camp, Elijah Blake and more.

Carmen Rodgers Ft. Anthony David- “Charge”

Soul singers Carmen Rodgers and Anthony David have joined forces for a euphoric, and mostly acoustic ballad. The pair have also served up some hot and steamy visuals to accompany the track. “Charge” is a single from Rodgers’ third studio album, Stargazer. Rodgers and David find themselves playing the role of lovers who also seem to be soul mates. Rodgers’ soft rasp meets David’s velvety and gritty soul for an engaging love song. This is a refreshing musical moment in a day where much of new R&B lacks love. Rodgers will also be featured on the new Foreign Exchange album, Tales from the Land of Milk and Honey. She is a featured vocalist and songwriter on several of the album’s tunes. The album drops August 21.

EXCLUSIVE: Raleigh Ritchie Talks Balancing His Gig On “Game Of Thrones” With His Buzzing Music Career

Fans of HBO’s fantasy drama Game of Thrones have come to know Jacob Anderson as the vigilant, protective Grey Worm, leader of Queen Daenerys’ Unsullied army. Faithful watchers of the Emmy nominated series may not get to hear Anderson’s character deliver a great deal of dialogue, but followers of his musical alter ego Raleigh Ritchie have come to appreciate his voice as a rising R&B/Pop performer.

Raleigh Ritchie, the musician, was crafting his first official project around the same time Jacob Anderson, the actor, was first clashing with fictional foes during season three of Thrones. The British singer-songwriter’s 2013 EP The Middle Child featured the introspective “Stay Inside,” the bass driven “In Too Deep,” and the Justin Timberlake-esque “A Moor.”

The following year saw two more collections from Ritchie. Black and Blue spawned the Top 40 U.K. hit “Stronger Than Ever.” One month later, he connected with American soul band The Internet for Black and Blue Point Two which featured four remix versions of Ritchie’s earlier tracks.

The 25-year-old is now preparing to offer the world his first full length studio album via Columbia Records. Ritchie is launching the campaign for his upcoming LP with the single “Bloodsport.” The tune originally hit the internet two years ago, but the Bristol-born artist wanted to approach the song’s sound in a fresh way for his debut album.

With a resumé that includes hitting the stage at England’s famed Glastonbury Festival and opening show dates for Hip Hop superstar Kendrick Lamar, Raleigh Ritchie is on the cusp of eclipsing Jacob Anderson. Get to know the buzzing entertainer in AllHipHop.com’s exclusive interview.

How did you come up with the stage name Raleigh Ritchie?

It’s the first names of two characters from The Royal Tenenbaums. I felt like I related to those characters at the time, and it stuck.

You kind of established yourself as an actor before you got your record deal. What led you to pursue making music professionally at that point?

I’d always been writing music, so it was never a conscious decision to release it professionally, I think I just felt at the time that I’d found the sound I was looking for and then I met the people I wanted to work with, so it all just sort of happened at the right time.

You’re sound is a mixture of different styles. Who are some of the musicians that have inspired you musically?

Kanye West is a big inspiration to me creatively. He’s constantly pushing the boundaries and evolving. He’s not just a rapper, he’s a creative force. I want to make things. I don’t just want to be a pop star.

Can you talk about your latest single? What was the creative process like putting that song together?

I write every song the same way pretty much. I like to write and record in a day and try and sort of bottle up the emotion I felt when writing the song and put it into the vocal. I guess the difference with “Bloodsport” is that the structure changed from the first demo. Originally there was no chorus until after the second verse, but it felt like it needed to come earlier. It was tense waiting for it.

Going back to your 2013 song “Stay Inside.” The opening lines say, “Drugs and girls, love and death is all that goes through my head.” Are those still the topics that consume your thoughts now?

No, not so much. I think I’ve found a bit of calm since I wrote that song. Also, the song is about a really specific time in my life that I hadn’t spoken about, and I wanted to get it off my chest, but even then it was written retrospectively. I think we all think about love and death. I think those things consume our minds for most of our lives.

There are some psychological theories that suggest the “Middle Child Syndrome” causes middle children to feel left out in the family which can create a personality trait of feeling the need to work extra hard to gain attention. Your The Middle Child EP seems to feature the idea of being emotionally insulated, but still striving to be noticed and loved. Were the themes on the project drawn from real experiences in your life or were they observational?

That was the idea yeah. I’m actually not the middle child, but sometimes I feel like it. And I feel like it in regards to my position in music, like I have to work that little bit harder to be noticed or taken seriously. I felt like that even then, because people liked “A Moor” and then they found out that I was in a TV show and they sort of shifted a bit maybe. It’s weird.

But yeah, in terms of the themes being personal or observational; everything I write is personal. Sometimes I observe things and write about them, but even then it’s my personal account of what I see or feel about something.

I saw an interview where you expressed you felt there’s a lack of feeling in pop music at the moment. What feeling does your music convey?

It conveys whatever I’m feeling at the time I guess. When I say “feeling,” I’m talking about whatever the artist is feeling, rather than what they project. I feel like I don’t hear enough music where it sounds like the person singing actually means what they’re saying. Some of the rawness and personality is gone, and it doesn’t feel like listening to a human being. It’s like listening to a singing computer.

How do you balance working on a hit TV series and making music at the same time?

It’s not really a problem. I probably only shoot 4-6 weeks in total over a 6 month period, so it’s a day here and a week there. It’s really widely split, so it rarely affects it. On the days I’m shooting, I just do stuff I can do on my laptop or on the phone.

Tell us about your song “Bloodsport.” Why did you feel this would be the best single?

It’s arguably the song that people have responded to the most, and it was always going to be on the album. It was a song that I felt like I could make a few improvements on too, like getting Rosie Danvers in to write a string arrangement for it. It just made sense to go with that as a single next.

Have you worked with any artists in the American market? If so, what do you think it will take to accomplish breaking through into the American music scene?

I wouldn’t know. I’ve worked in the states a few times and worked with some awesome producer/artists, but I haven’t written with any American artists. Who knows though, maybe in the future. And I don’t really have any concept of what it takes to break through any music scene, I just hope people like my music and get something from it, wherever they are.

When can the world expect a full album from Raleigh Ritchie?

Soon, 2015. I’m aiming for Autumn.

Drake’s Producer Noah “40” Shebib Once Said: You Have No Credibility If Someone Writes Your Raps

(AllHipHop News) Meek Mill ignited a major discussion in Hip Hop when he accused Drake of using someone else to write his verse on “R.I.C.O.” The accusation led to DJ Funkmaster Flex releasing alleged reference tracks of Atlanta rapper Quentin Miller performing verses Drake used on “R.I.C.O.” and other records as well. One leak being a reference for the If You’re Reading This, It’s Too Late song “10 Bands.”

Since that time, many members of the Hip Hop community have voiced their opinions on the matter of rappers using other people to write their rhymes. Ice Cube and A$AP Rocky have both expressed that it does matter to Hip Hop fans if a rapper is not writing his own verses.

Drake’s longtime producer Noah “40” Shebib once suggested the same thing. In a 2012 profile for the British website Sound On Sound, 40 said, “In Hip Hop you must write your own raps. If someone else were to write them for you, you’d have no credibility whatsoever, and you’d be out of the window immediately.”

40 was one of the first Drake associates to defend him after the allegations his verse on Meek’s Dreams Worth More Than Money was penned by Miller. In a series of tweets, 40 attempted to explain why his frequent collaborator was more than just a typical rapper. However, he did not deny Miller has written verses for Drake.

The ’12 SOS article included 40 stating he and Drake were the only two people that wrote for his projects. Up until that point, the two Toronto natives worked together on the full length Drake collections So Far Gone, Thank Me Later, and Take Care.

“People don’t care who wrote it, or where it comes from or what the sample is, they just want the hottest beat. They just want that and then put it out in their own song,” added 40. “Having said that, Drake and I do take pride in writing songs together, just the two of us.”

The recent Quentin Miller reference tracks were for songs released over the past 6 months. Miller has issued a statement denying he is a “ghostwriter” but acknowledged he and Drake “came together and made something special.” The Tumblr post did not directly address the “10 Bands” reference track.

Complex reports Miller is not credited as writer on Meek Mill’s “R.I.C.O.” despite the fact there is a reference track connected to him for Drake’s verse on the song. The site suggests the absence of Miller’s name in linear notes for the Dreams Worth More Than Money CD is proof he is by definition a ghostwriter.
