Giving back is part of what defines us as a community and I am proud of the example that I and my team continue to set in terms of our charitable endeavors and advocacy for social change within our city.

(AllHipHop News) The law finally gave Michael Jackson’s former physician Conrad Murray what he deserves…in a way. Five of the 34 European Michael Jackson fans to sue Murray received one Euro for “emotional distress” they suffered due to Michael Jackson’s death.
Murray was released last October after serving two of his four year sentence in the involuntary manslaughter case involving Michael Jackson’s death. A judge in Orleans, France declared that five Michael Jackson fans had sufficient medical reports and witness testimonials to prove they suffered emotional distress due to Murray’s actions. All five claimants were members of a French-based Michael Jackson Community fan club
While the monetary reward for each claimant may only be one Euro ($1.36), the legal precedent this sets in the music industry could prove to be monumental. According to the fans’ lawyer Emmanuel Ludot comments to AFP News, this ruling is a first:
As far as I know this is the first time in the world that the notion of emotional damage in connection with a pop star has been recognized.
The five claimants are not pursing to claim the $1.36 from Murray but instead want to be able to visit Michael Jackson’s private grave site in Los Angeles.

(AllHipHop News) James “Jimmy Henchman” Rosemond’s trial for the 2009 killing of Lowell “Lodi Mack” Fletcher began this week, and the prosecution in the case is attempting to paint Henchman as the murderous leader of a criminal enterprise who lived a double life as an artist manager.

“In the public eye and on the surface, Rosemond was known as an executive in the music industry,” said Assistant U.S. Attorney Samson Enzer during opening statements. “But beneath the surface, Rosemond was known as a ruthless criminal who ran his rap business like a street gang.”
According to the state, Henchman paid Derrick Grant and Rodney Johnson $30,000 worth of cocaine to kill Fletcher. Prosecutors claim the G-Unit associate’s death was linked to an ongoing beef between “The Rosemond Organization” and 50 Cent’s rap crew over Henchman’s relationship with ex-G-Unit member The Game.
Enzer stated that the Fletcher hit was just one example of violent encounters aimed at G-Unit that involved Henchman. He cited previous incidents including a shooting outside the Hot 97 radio station in 2005. The attorney alleged the last straw for Rosemond was when his son was supposedly attacked by G-Unit’s Tony Yayo.
“Rosemond decided that for slapping his son, a member of G-Unit had to die,” said Enzer.
Members of Rosemond’s organization are scheduled to testify against him in court. His attorney, J. Bruce Maffeo, attempted to convince the jury to disregard the testimony of the ex-gang members.
“[These witnesses] are facing sentences that will literally keep them in prison for the rest of their natural lives,” said Maffeo. “These are individuals who have committed… every crime conceivable to any of us.”

“One of my favorite things about today’s Hip Hop is the honesty,” states Kweli. “Today’s most popular rappers aren’t always politically correct or deep, but the best are unflinchingly honest. While my story may be documented, I have never truly told my story through music. My true fans have heard bits and pieces through the years, but Gravitas sums up my experience until now.”
Kweli is expanding buying Gravitas into an interactive experience. People that purchase the album through Kweliclub.com will also be added to the performer’s personal address book. This will allow his fans to communicate directly with Kweli by email.
“Social media, YouTube and music streaming sites have made it where a casual listener can say they are a big fan without ever having to actually support the artist by purchasing the music,” says Kweli. “Kweliclub.com is set up for me to be able to stay in touch with my truest fans, the ones who are happy to support me with their dollars. This is a way for me to give back to them.”
Gravitas will be available for purchase on www.kweliclub.com or at online retailers and brick-and-mortar stores though Javotti Media/Fat Beats on February 18th.

According to The Daily News, sources say accused shooter Jamal Scott was retaliating for the 1998 murder of his older brother. Fox allegedly ordered associates to begin shooting after an argument in July of that year. Scott’s brother Curtis was hit and killed. He was 21 at the time.
“Jamal didn’t pull the trigger. He didn’t shoot him. He just happened to be there when it happened,” the unidentified girlfriend of Fox is quoting as saying. “This is 16 years ago and you’re still harboring that?… Killing Mazaradi, that’s not going to bring your brother back.”
Scott was charged with second-degree murder, attempted murder, and felony assault.
