50 Cent Speaks On Possibility Of G-Unit Reunion & Full Album With Pharrell

(AllHipHop News) The “will they or won’t they” questions surrounding the potential reuniting of G-Unit have been ongoing for years. Once again the topic came up when G-Unit founder 50 Cent addressed the possibility with thisis50.com.

The Queens native left a little wiggle room for the chance he could reconnect with Young Buck, but any hopes that he and Game will ever do more music together seems to be off the table.

“It’ll never be five. That’ll never happen,” said 50. “I’ll never work with Game.”

When asked about Buck’s return to Hip Hop, the creator of Get Rich or Die Tryin’ states that he is not ready to front the money for any material from the Tennessee rapper, but he may be willingly to bring Buck back into the fold in the future.

“If they are not moving and waiting for you to do it, that means you actually did the work. So it’s like, ‘you can call me when you’re ready to work for me.’  If they are sustaining energy and building their own thing, we’re talking a different thing,” adds 50.

50 Cent also killed any ideas that he would do a full album with Pharrell Williams. The collaboration was first brought up in an interview with Complex where Pharrell mentioned he was open to the possible project. The publication later wrote an open letter to Jimmy Iovine asking that the two superstars get in the studio together.

“I respect Pharrell as a producer and like a lot of material from different people. But I haven’t had a project come out with one producer,” said 50. “I’m flattered that Complex would put that out publicly, but when you guys say what you would want, I don’t give a f*** what you would want.”

No African-American Acts Had A Number One Song In 2013

(AllHipHop New) While artists like Jay Z, Beyoncé, Kanye West, J. Cole, Wale, and A$AP Rocky managed to secure a number album in 2013, The Slate points out that no lead African American acts reached the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart last year. This was the first time this has happened in the history of the chart.

Rap and R&B styled tunes were popular, but only ones by white artists Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Eminem, Justin Timberlake, and Robin Thicke were able to hit number one. In fact, the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart was also led mostly by white performers with Macklemore, Thicke, and Em holding number one for 44 out of 52 weeks on that list. Rihanna’s “Diamonds” was number one for 3 weeks and Drake’s “Hold On, We’re Going Home” held the number one spot for 5 weeks.

Macklemore and Eminem ran the Rap Songs chart as well. Mac & Lewis had the number one rap song in the country for 29 consecutive weeks with “Thrift Shop” and “Can’t Hold Us.” Eminem’s “Berzerk” and “Rap God” ruled for a week respectively and his duet with Rihanna, “The Monster,” held onto number one for the last 7 weeks in 2013.

Flo Rida and Psy each had a song hit the top spot on the Rap Songs chart for a week. Jay Z’s collaboration with Timberlake “Holy Grail” held onto to number one for 12 non-consecutive weeks.

The R&B Songs chart was not much different. Justin Timberlake and Robin Thicke controlled the tally for most of 2013.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Bun B To Run For Mayor Of Houston?

I thought Bun B was already the mayor of H-Town, but it looks like he may be formalizing this notion. Not exactly. But a web blog theorized that Bun should run for the office of the town and they made a lot of sense. But, the fact of the matter is Bun ain’t ready because he allegedly has “too many skeletons in the closet.” But, word on everything….he should run!

Bun B is really cool with Annise Parker, the present mayor of Houston I’m thinking by next year, he’s going to run, which is when his supporters want him to enter the political arena. Bun has already been a fine representative for the culture in that he’s a professor and also intelligent voice.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Porsha Williams’ New Boo to be Featured on RHOA?

Real Housewives of Atlanta star Porsha Williams (née Stewart) has moved into the world of dating and officially put her past with Kordell Stewart to rest. We first watched Porsha get started back on the dating scene on the Steven Harvey Show.

These days, Porsha says she has been hanging out with a few prospects but she has narrowed her choices down to someone really special.

“There’s someone that I think is very special. He’s kind of standing out of the pack right now, so we’ll see how that turns out,” she told Radar Online.

She added that we might know who he is.

“He’s well known and I’m just a little cautious this go around so I’m just kind of waiting for the time to be right before I make the next move,” Porsha said.

She also said that we’ll likely get the big reveal of who this man is on Real Housewives of Atlanta. That is, unless the rumor mill figures out who he is via Instagram first. That or provided that RHOA producers actually capture footage and show it.

I’m willing to bet that it’s a music producer or and athlete.

Rest In Power: Legendary Writer Amiri Baraka Dies At 79

(AllHipHop News) The world has lost one of the greatest wordsmiths its ever known. Controversial writer, poet laureate, professor and activist Amiri Baraka died yesterday (January 9th) after years of battling an undisclosed medical condition.

The 79 year old scholar had been was hospitalized in late December for an undisclosed illness.

Baraka was an active participant in the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960’s and changed his named from his birth name Everett LeRoi Jones to Amiri Baraka following Malcolm X’s 1965 assassination. Baraka also founded the Black Arts Repertory Theatre and School.

The Baraka-led Black Arts Movement of the 1960s produced such legendary African American artists as Gil Scott Heron, Nikki Giovanni and others. In 2007, he spoke on the purpose of the Black Arts Movement:

[W]e wrote art that was, number one, identifiably Afro American according to our roots and our history and so forth. Secondly, we made art that was not contained in small venues. The third thing we wanted was art that would help with the liberation of black people, and we didn’t think just writing a poem was sufficient. That poem had to have some kind of utilitarian use; it should help in liberating us. So that’s what we did. We consciously did that.

Baraka was also a polarizing figure whom attracted a considerable level of controversy for his poem “Somebody Blew Up America” about the tragic events of September 11th, 2001. The poem was released after Baraka’s 2002 induction as the second ever poet laureate for New Jersey and contained lines that were perceived as anti-semetic. Soon after the poem was released, the poet laureate position was removed.

Check out Baraka perform the controversial poem, “Somebody Blew Up America” below:
