Let’s face it, fellas, impressing a woman is something most of us men have a hard time doing. The old-fashioned method of flowers and candy can only be trusted 50 percent of the time, while public displays of affection have seemingly gone out of style.
If there is tried-and-true method from the beginning of time, music is a must during Valentine’s Day. Whether you want to spice things up this holiday or simply want to express your love, here are the Top 10 R&B songs to play or sing for your woman this Valentine’s Day…
#10: Ginuwine – “So Anxious”
MOST ROMANTIC LINE: “You say you’re working, well hit me just as soon as your shift is over, And I’ll be waiting, ‘cause I can’t sleep for reminiscing”
VERDICT: If you needed to pick one song out of Ginuwine’s entire catalog, “So Anxious” would be your best bet. One of his best and most known hits, playing this song right before a hand-made meal is sure to help keep the sparks flying in your relationship.
#9: R. Kelly – “Your Body’s Callin”
MOST ROMANTIC LINE: “Whatever it is you want from me, baby, you see you don’t have to say nothing, I know your body want something,, And it’s easy for me to see”
VERDICT: Nothing says, “I want you” more than R. Kelly’s 1994 single, “Your Body’s Callin’.” One of the more famous “baby-making” songs of the 1990s, R Kelly expresses his love for not only his woman’s body but also her mind and soul. Be careful before playing this one.
#8: D’Angelo – “Untitled (How Does it Feel)”
MOST ROMANTIC LINE: “And if you’ll have me, I can provide everything that you desire”
VERDICT: Although it may be a little direct, D’Angelo’s#### single “Untitled” is the song that gets things excited on your lady’s special day. Shirtless performance not required.
#7: Al Green – “Here I Am, Baby”
MOST ROMANTIC LINE: “Let me be the one you come running to, I’ll never be untrue”
VERDICT: The legendary Al Green has a catalog full of songs that women enjoy, but arguably none more enticing than “Let’s Stay Together.” The song has become such a traditional love song that even President Barack Obama performed the song at an appearance at the Apollo Theater. Something good must be going on in the Obama home!
#6: Musiq Soulchild – “Don’t Change”
MOST ROMANTIC LINE: “I’ll love you when your hair turns gray, girl, I’ll still want you if you gain a little weight yeah”
VERDICT: “Don’t Change” has become a fixture at many weddings across the country as Musiq Soulchild expresses his undying appreciation for his significant other through music. Express yours by playing this song for that special person in your life – this is some grown man stuff right here.
#5: Joe – “All That I Am”
MOST ROMANTIC LINE: “But what I’ve got a give is more precious, Than you’ll ever know, My deepest inner feelings, my heart and soul”
VERDICT: Is there a more personal song in the immense music library of Joe? If you can’t figure out the exact words to express your feelings, play this song and thank me later.
#4: Prince – “Adore”
MOST ROMANTIC LINE: “If God one day struck me blind, your beauty I’d still see”
VERDICT: Known for his passion within his lyrics, Prince has been making the hearts of women curl for over 30 years. What better way to express your feelings than by playing one of the most lyrically deep and sexy love songs ever written?
#3: Tyrese – Sweet Lady
MOST ROMANTIC LINE: “I’ll be there when you need me, just call and receive me”
VERDICT: Few songs will leave more of an impression on your lady than Tyrese’s “Sweet Lady.” It may not be a legendary song, but the sweet undertones of the lyrics will set the mood of any Valentine’s Day.
#2: Boyz II Men – “I’ll Make Love To You”
MOST ROMANTIC LINE: “Girl your wish is my command, I submit to your demands”
VERDICT: If it’s been a tough 2012 for your relationship, this might be the song you need to turn things back in your favor. What woman doesn’t want her man to submit to their demands every once in a while?
#1: Keith Sweat – “Nobody”
MOST ROMANTIC LINE: “I want to please you, I want to show you baby, that I need you”
VERDICT: A classic that will bring any woman wishing for romance to her knees. Mr. New Jack Swing himself, Keith Sweat, tops the list as “Nobody” gives the perfect mix of devotion and suck-up ratio to keep your Valentine’s Day spicy this year.

(AllHipHop News) XXL Magazine has issued an apology of a controversial advice video he recently released via the site.
Too $hort released a video with the magazine, which doled out advice to young boys one how to “turnout” young girls.
The rapper, who has been known to release sexually explicit songs throughout his career, offered the advice to teenaged boys.
“When you get to late middle school, early high school and you start feeling a certain way about the girls. I’m gonna tell you a couple tricks,” Too Short says in the video. “A lot of the boys are going to be running around trying to get kisses from the girls. We’re going way past that. I’m taking you to the hole.”
Then, in graphic detail, the rapper offers some steps that young boys should follow to win a girl’s heart.
“Take your finger and put a little spit on it and you stick your finger in her underwear and you rub it on there and watch what happens,” the rapper said.
The petition calls for the dismissal of XXL’s Editor-In-Chief, Vanessa Satten, for promoting the rape of young girls.
“The minds and bodies of black girls are continually under attack,” the petition reads. “Those in charge at XXL, particularly Vanessa Satten the magazine’s Editor-in-Chief, value the security of young black women so little that they chose to trade it for pageviews. Let them know that we will not sit and watch while they wage war.”
The video has since been removed from the XXL website and Too $hort and Vanessa Satten has apologized for the offensive video.
“I want to apologize to anyone I may have offended with the XXL video interview I recently did,” $hort stated. “When I got on camera I was in Too $hort mode and had a lapse of judgement.I would never advise a child or young man to do these things, it’s not how I get down. Although I have made my career on dirty raps, I have worked over the years to somewhat balance the content of my music with giving back to the community. Just coming from a man who wants to see young people get ahead in life, I’m gonna do my best to to help and not hurt. If you’re a young man or a kid who looks up to me, don’t get caught up in the pimp, player, gangster hip-hop personas. Just be yourself.”
Vanessa Satten, XXL’s Editor-in-Chief, also apologized for the video’s release.
“There has been some recent controversy surrounding a video interview with Too $hort that posted on XXLMag.com last week,” XXL Editor-in-Chief Vanessa Satten said in a statement posted on the magazine’s website.
“Many readers found the tone and content of the interview to be offensive and were angered that it was allowed to post on the website,” Satten said. “I agree with their perspective. I do not see all content before it goes live. When I saw this video, I was truly offended and thought it crossed the line. I had it taken down immediately. I am disappointed that an employee decided to post it and I am putting internal procedures in place to make sure content like this does not go on the site. The video goes against my value system and represents poor judgment on behalf of the individual who posted it.”
XXL Magazine said they were making internal changes to ensure that content that is so offensive does not make it to publication.
Recently, I was asked to discuss my ideal Valentine’s Day. Surprised by my very own response, I have come to realize the power and strength behind some inspirational advice distilled from P.S. I Love Me, Lil’ Mo’s latest album.

The perfect way to celebrate? 24 hours spent “LOVING” myself, of course! [*grins*] Although we spend a great deal of time pursuing – or fostering – life’s unpredictable love affairs, the equivalent amount of time, money, and energy is rarely directed to the person we should love the most: ourselves. Many religions ask that we, as humans, love each other AS we would love ourselves. But in the midst of all this loving, how often do we boomerang these sentiments in acts of self-love?
Do not be fooled into believing that the affirmation of self equates to narcissistic thinking. (Several years ago, Katt Williams preached quite humorously: “Take care of your star player!” And more recently, with the release of “Cold War,” Janelle Monae sounded a prophetic clarion call: “Do you know what you’re fighting for?”)
On this upcoming Valentine’s Day – and every single day hereafter – be sure to start/end your day the way it should: “press pause” and allow peaceful stillness to clear your mind of all stress, then assertively whisper to your spirit: “P.S. I Love You”!
[SIDENOTE, for those readers who prefer dramatic effect: complete this task in front of a mirror daily – with your best primal yell – followed by an indiscreet “Im-sexy-and-I-know-it” wink! And for the decisively mature, or purposely immature, a DISCLAIMER: Katt Williams like to cuss – a lot!]
For all the “Johnny-come-latelies,” hop on board the J-Monae train!
Did I mention that President Obama is proud member of #TeamMonae? (LOL!)
