Mistah F.A.B Hosts Turkey Drive To Make Amends With Oakland

AllHipHop News) Rappers don’t always get credit for giving back to the community, but that hasn’t stopped Oakland rapper Mistah F.A.B from giving back to the community this holiday season.

While many Americans will be inside their homes eating Turkey, stuffing and an assortment of pies, Mistah F.A.B will be giving away 300 turkeys and meals to struggling families in the Bay Area.

“They’re going to be like, ‘Yo, you just delivered a turkey!'” F.A.B told San Francisco Weekly. “Imagine being poor and growing up in the ghetto, and you answer the door and someone handing you a turkey!”

Mistah F.A.B’s fourth annual turkey drive started yesterday (November 22), when the rapper began handing out free Thanksgiving meals at the corner of 45th and Market streets, in North Oakland.

The charity event this Thanksgiving is one of several events that F.A.B holds throughout the year to give back to the community.

During Christmas, F.A.B has a toy drive, and when the back-to-school season starts he does a backpack drive.

While F.A.B donated $3,000 to the cause for this Thanksgiving, he has also doubled the donation with contribution from others via Paypal.

F.A.B, who lost his mother to a battle with cancer this year and his brother to prison under the three strikes law, is passionate about making a difference in the community.

“This is the same spot I once distributed drugs,” F.A.B said. “I stood on that corner, I watched people die on that corner, I watched people mess up their lives on that corner, and now, this is the reconstruction of my community. I have to play a part in that because I played a part in the deconstruction of my community.”

In related news, Mistah F.A.B will release his new album I Found My Backpack 2 – The Lost Notebook on December 6th, 2011.

Ja Rule Letter #1 From Prison: Inside Rule

Today I can truly say I’ve been through it all. A young kid comes in today they put him in the 18 cell right next to mine he looked kinda depressed coming in but nothing out of the ordinary.

A few hours go past and all of a sudden I hear someone choking he’s trying to kill his self.

We all heard it everyone runs to their cell doors and start kicking, banging, calling the CO’s. Now I’ve seen a person get shot and I’ve even seen someone die from a drug overdose but this was different this was suicide. It was like I can hear the life leaving his body the CO’s rush in the cell they saved him.

I didn’t even think some s### like this was possible in these cells. He tied his bed sheet to a pole that’s attached to a sink, which is about 3 feet off the ground, made some sort of noose, wrapped it around his neck then threw himself forward into a boston crab carmel clutch type position.

I never understood why a person would wanna kill themselves life is love & love is living it’s gods most precious gift.

After they brought him back to his cell in the suicide suit, he cried for hours.

We tried to console him telling him it’s never that bad to wanna kill yourself. Turns out he just turned 18 and got a girlfriend, who is only 16.

Her parents pressed charges and now he’s locked up on sex offender charges.

He was in school for graphic arts to learn how to make video games. It’s sad cause he’s still a kid himself, a good kid at that and now he’ll be forever labeled rapist or sex offender, when really he’s probably just a kid in love.

Wow it’s crazy how 2 years can be so close but yet so far.

When your 18 & 16, it seems far because he’s now an adult and she’s still a teen, but when your 10 & 12 it’s cute and innocent and when your 18 & 20 nobody gives a f###.

It makes me think about Britt and her starting to date. I’m not gonna lie at 18 & 16 I’d be at a cross road too, but to ruin a young man’s life & stain his future is not right.

At 18 your legally an adult but your really still just a kid. I remember when I was 18, I thought I knew everything about life & living as I look back now as a 35-year-old man I realize I didn’t know s### LOL and I’m still learning & growing as a man.

Two years, that’s what separates me from my family right now and I look at it as short time, but yet when Ish told me that Britt’s acting partner was 17, I almost had a fit, even tho she’ll be 16 soon. I’m sure he’ll be 18 soon and BAM there it is crossroad LOL.

It’s funny how God puts situations in front of you so you can see it clearly. I trust Britt I know me & Ish raised her well, besides she hates Kids LOL.

But I also know the intentions of a young man. I got my eyes on you lil homie. Don’t m########### back to this motherfu**er!

Album Review: Mobb Deep’s “Black Cocaine”

Rating: 7/10

When Prodigy of Mobb Deep was incarcerated on gun possession charges, it seemed as though the legendary group was all about done. After a classic entry into the game in the 90’s, the Queensbridge duo had since been on the decline, commercially and critically. And after a brief and failed stint with G-Unit, this prison sentence seemed like the final blow to the tired collective. However, upon release earlier this year, Prodigy and Mobb Deep went right back to work, business as usual. The Black Cocaine EP quickly gained buzz and questions from listeners wondering if the two could still, for lack of a better term, bring it.

It was a fair question, as Havoc has been the only one of the two continuing to make music (scarcely) and thus, stay sharp. Not to mention the fact of not having a label, not having worked with each other professionally in a couple of years, and possibly, not having the age. Things are looking quite dark for Mobb Deep. But that’s what has brought them success over the years; dark music. The EP starts off with “Dead Man’s Shoes,” a dark, murky introduction. While the beat brings back familiar tones, the lyrics are average and neither the two, nor guest Bounty Killa, seems to find their appropriate place on the track.

Still though, the mood is set. Which serves as a bridge to the second, and better, song, “Black Cocaine.” Produced by long-time collaborator The Alchemist, the Mobb sounds comfortable over the usual cerebral sounds matched by their low buzz of intense rhymes. On the first cut, the duo sounds incredibly aged and partially out of touch with the art. But it’s almost as if that was nothing more than a ‘warm-up shot’, as the EP begins to take its form after.

As if they knew this was the case, the triumphant “Conquer” plays next. Behind stirring horns, you can hear their confidence building on the record, proclaiming they “Overpower and crush” any and all competition. But truthfully, they have not done so yet. With three songs that have so far totaled a passing grade, Mobb Deep has yet to be exceptional here. A flash of this is shown on the fourth record, “Get It Forever,” boasting another Alchemist instrumental, and Nas feature. The angry clashing of drums and groaning sample in the backdrop bring out the best of Havoc and P, (“Beat so ugly gotta put a f*cking mask on it”) and allow Nas to bob & weave with a deadly flow (“But you know this already/ My hood the coldest and deadly”).

The best showing for Mobb Deep fans happened in the above mentioned track. The final song on the EP is appropriately titled, “Last Days”. Though sometimes more than others, the group sounds their age, something that’s inevitable, and it’s clear that the upcoming LP may be the last hurrah for the infamous duo. But this is nothing to be criticized for. After seeing many fan favorites limp out of the game, it’s refreshing to see Mobb Deep still able to maintain in their lane. I’m not sure if we’ll get another Infamous or Murda Muzik, but we’ll get a couple of highlights. Something that’ll make the older heads happy, and maybe even impress some of the little “duns.”
