NLE Choppa Issues Another Challenge To Memphis Students

When rapper NLE Choppa gives a challenge, it seems the young people in his hometown will rise to the occasion and surpass the goals.

On Tuesday, Oct. 18, the 19-year-old rapper, whose real name is Bryson Lashun Potts and who attended Cordova High School, visited Cornerstone Prep Denver School to congratulate the students in the elementary school for reading 26 million words.

The kids participated in the first NLE Reading Challenge, but now, will they be able to rock with his second one? The chart-topper believes so.

“I’m back here because I’m trying to start spreading the message to get them to read 40 million this year. Last year, they read 26 million, which is crazy! So this year I’m trying to see if they can exceed that goal, 40 million,” he said to FOX 13.

Each scholar at the school have been dared to read at least 100 books or 100,000 words this new school year.

With only a quarter of the year in, 20 scholars already have read more than 100,000 words.

“They don’t even just see me as a rapper in me anymore at this point,” NLE says. “I think I’m a part of the faculty at this school. It’s just like a big brother little sister/brother bond and just to know that I got them and I’m never going to lead them astray.”

The “Walk Em Down” rapper said his being there, even challenging the kids to do something difficult, make them see him more as a celebrity.

“I feel like seeing me here letting them know that somebody cares, not even just a somebody, but somebody they look up to,” teenager said, further sharing how powerful it is for him to give back in a way that strengthens kids minds.

He hopes other rappers will follow suit.

“It made me feel so powerful, because the same way I feel the running statistic with a rapper is that we can tell the youth to pick a gun up, pick a drug up pick this up or do this, and for me to be able to be here and use my life for a positive, I feel like it inspires so many other rappers. Just like if they say something in the song if they preach the negative in their song to at least on the balance on the flip side, try to come back and do something beautiful for the community and the kids,” he said.

Maybe the challenge is not just for the kids but for his peers also. Now, who is going to top him with this outstanding service project?

Travis Scott has hit back at “weird” speculation suggesting he recently cheated on Kylie Jenner.

Last week, model Rojean Kar took to her Instagram Stories to share a video of the rapper on the set of a video shoot and claimed she had been invited there.

A short time later, Scott – real name Jacques Webster – took to his own account to reject the allegation.

“It’s a lot of weird s### going on. An uninvited person was sneaking photos on, what was supposed to be, a closed set while I was directing a video,” he wrote. “I’m saying this for the last time. I don’t know this person. I’ve never been with this person. So please stop with the continuous cyber games and the fictional storytelling.”

However, the drama didn’t stop there.

Kar returned to Instagram to allege that she spent Valentine’s Day with Scott.

“This Valentine’s Day, I saw you. I ran out the door and you had every single girl I know blowing me up, like, ‘Trav’s asking for you, come back.’ Are we pretending that didn’t happen too? Like, come on. You cheat on that b#### every single f###### night. The whole f###### city sees it,” she stated.

In response, Scott posted a photo of a table set up for a romantic celebration and added in the caption, “If u wasn’t at this table on V day then u wasn’t with me.”

Travis Scott and Jenner are parents to a four-year-old daughter Stormi and an eight-month-old son.

Representatives for the reality TV star have not yet commented on the allegations but a close friend on the set supported Travis Scott’s side.

Has King Von’s Alleged Killer Been Arrested?

Timothy “Lul Tim” Leeks cannot seem to stay out of trouble. Last week, when a lot of people were preparing for college homecomings, Lul Tim was getting arrested. According to the Georgia Gazette, he was arrested on the 19th of October.

There is not much else to say. Lul Tim is one of the main people accused of having a role in the death of King Von. I am not sure what he has been up to, but it cannot be a lot.

This dude was charged with the murder, but still managed to get a bond release from Fulton County Jail last year. He still has to wear an ankle monitor. Maybe the DA let him run around a bit so he could get in more trouble or they can get him and others in some RICO case.

By the way, I am not sure what to make if this report, but not a lot of people care about it. There’s not a lot out there.

Lupita Nyong’o New She Would Go Viral After Will Smith Smacked Chris Rock During The Oscar Awards

Lupita Nyong’o knew her reaction to Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the 2022 Academy Awards would “be a meme.”

During the ceremony on March 27th, the “King Richard” actor walked onto the stage and slapped the comedian after he compared his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith – who has the medical condition alopecia – to G.I. Jane.

Nyong’o was seated near Smith, and shortly after the shocking moment, a meme showing her appearing to gasp began to circulate on the Internet.

“Once the moment was over, I realized, ‘Oh my God, there’s no way all this transpired, and I’m not in the shot,'” she sighed in an interview for The Hollywood Reporter. “I knew as soon as it was over that I was going to be a meme.”

Nyong’o declined to comment further on the incident.

“I don’t want to add any more fuel to that thing, quite frankly,” the 39-year-old added.

Smith apologized to Academy members and his peers during his acceptance speech for Best Actor at the film event and followed it up with a lengthy apology on Instagram the next day.

The 54-year-old subsequently resigned from the Academy and was banned from attending the Oscars for 10 years.

Cardi B Goes At Madonna After Twitter Post About “SEX” – But It Works Out!

Cardi B was born 30 years ago. Also, nearly at the same time Cardi was being born, Madonna dropped a seminal, controversial book called “SEX.”

“SEX” now sells for upwards of $1,000 on places like EBAY. Anyway, Madonna, who is now in her mid-60s, took to Twitter to pop her bra strap in honor of the ground-breaking book. She basically alleged that she wanted some thanks for “paving the way” for people like Cardi B, Kim Kardashian and others.

She said:

“30 years ago I published a book called S.E.X. In addition to photos of me naked there were photos of Men kissing Men, Woman kissing Woman and Me kissing everyone. Now Cardi B can sing about her WAP. Kim Kardashian can grace the cover of any magazine with her naked ass and Miley Cyrus can come in like a wrecking ball. You’re welcome b###hes.”

“I literally payed this woman homage so many times cause I grew up listening to her …she can make her point without putting clown emojis and getting slick out the mouth. These icons really become disappointments once u make it in the industry that’s why I keep to myself,” Cardi said in now-deleted tweets.

And then it all devolved.

The fans got into it and started slandering Cardi for not understanding the message and also race and colorism crept in. Cardi said, “…SAY WAT YOU WANT TO SAY BUT DONT INSULT ME THE F— …nobody gonna lil girl me (specially a white woman).”

Anyway, this has a good ending. They actually got on a phone and talked. They worked it out.

Kylie Jenner Couldn’t Stop Crying After Having Travis Scott’s Son

Kylie Jenner experienced the “baby blues” weeks after she welcomed her son.

The reality TV star and her boyfriend Travis Scott welcomed a baby boy in February, a sibling for their four-year-old daughter Stormi. Kylie has not yet announced the name of the tot.

During the latest episode of “The Kardashians,” the 25-year-old opened up to her older sister Kendall Jenner about how she had a “really hard” time after giving birth to her second child.

“I cried non-stop all day for the first three weeks. It’s just the baby blues, and then it kinda goes away. I had it with Stormi, too,” she shared, adding that she would sometimes cry so much that her head would “hurt.” “I’m not a doctor, but I read on Google they call it ‘baby blues’ when it doesn’t last past six weeks. After about six weeks, I started to feel better, but I definitely had a case of the blues.”

After childbirth, many women experience the “baby blues” or low mood due to sudden hormonal and chemical changes in the body. 

It differs from postnatal depression, whereby a new mother begins to battle increasing depression and anxiety amid other symptoms.

“I’m feeling better and not crying every day, so that’s great. I don’t have bad days with my body, I have bad days mentally and I need my first night out,” the make-up maven added.

Lil Durk Beats 2019 Felony Shooting Case

Lil Durk will not have to face any charges surrounding a 2019 shooting that happened in Atlanta hot spot The Varsity.

The shooting occurred on Feb. 5, 2019 outside of The Varsity, which is a popular restaurant. Alexander Witherspoon, 23, was shot and Durk was subsequently charged with criminal attempt to commit murder,being employed by or associated with a criminal street gang to conduct or participate in criminal gang activity, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm. All of the charges are felonies.

Fulton County prosecutor Fani Willis opted not to continue with the case, an announcement that pleased Durk’s counsel.

Attorney Manny Arora, said, “While it took three years for the state to make the right decision, in the end, the right decision was made and Mr. Banks can finally put this event behind him.”

Durk has always maintained his innocence in the case and never attempted to defy authorities.

On “Turn Myself In,” he said “Look up at the judge, can’t look, state makin’ up lies for sure / I’m an innocent man for sure, it is what it is for sure.”

Deceased rapper King Von was also arrested at this incident.

John Legend Was A Selfish And Bad At Dealing With Impulse Control In The Early Days Of His Relationship With Chriss Teigen

John Legend has admitted he “wasn’t a great partner” when he first started dating Chrissy Teigen because he was pretty selfish.

During an appearance on the “On Purpose with Jay Shetty” podcast, the “All of Me” singer acknowledged that he wasn’t ready to be a fully committed partner to Chrissy when they started dating in 2006.

“I think I was more selfish then,” he confessed. “I wasn’t a great partner at the beginning of our relationship. Even though I was very into her and very excited to be with her. I was still selfish. I was in my mid-20s, still not ready to fully be the committed partner that I am now.”

The 43-year-old, who married Chrissy in 2013, explained that he eventually understood the balance between what he wanted to get out of the relationship and what he needed to put in.

“When you stop being so selfish when you think about not only the joy you get from a situation and the pleasure you get from it, but also think about your responsibility and your commitment in that situation. You just grow, and you mature,” he said. “Part of it is it’s just a matter of time. You need time to become that person you want to be. I think in your mid-20s you’re still dealing with impulse control, you’re still dealing with selfishness, you’re still figuring out what you want to do in your career, all these things are happening. But when you figure these things out you can just be a better person in general.”

Their ever-evolving relationship inspired John to write “I Don’t Love You Like I Used To” for his recent album Legend.

Kanye Says He’s The Living Version Of Robert Kardashian And Kim’s Priest On Earth

Ye’s tour of major media platforms continued with a 1:40-minute interview with Piers Morgan, which was released in full over the weekend.

The rap star sat down for an extensive interview with “Piers Morgan Uncensored,” where he reiterated anti-Semitic comments about Jewish people, his disdain for the left and the media, and his relationship with his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian.

During the lengthy interview, Ye talked about his plans to unveil the predatory practices in the entertainment and sports worlds, which he claimed were perpetuated mainly by people of the Jewish faith. He also apologized for hurting the Jewish community with his infamous “death con 3” tweet.

During the tense Q&A, Ye said he wanted to sit down with the top lawyers in the NFL, NBA, and the music and film industries and live stream them reviewing the contracts to prove his point that Jewish people were “raping” everyone.

“What’s gonna happen before I’m done? We’re going to open up all of the music industry contracts, all of the publishing deals, all of the athlete deals, all of the acting deals, all of the mortgages, all of the deals. But it has to start somewhere,” Ye said.

After almost an hour of back and forth with Piers about politics and religion, the conversation turned to his relationship with Kim Kardashian.

Ye criticized Kim’s recent cover for Interview Magazine, in which she posed semi-nude with her behind peeking out of a pair of low-rise jeans in front of an American flag.

“Kim has Zionist media handlers surrounding her all in and out her Hulu TV show, all in and out her family all in and out the house that I created for my family, but God is alive. The devil is a defeated foe,” Ye said.

Kanye accused the media of using Kim and other famous people to oversexualize young children in America on behalf of the Democrats.

Piers pressed Ye about the current status of things between him and Kim. 

Ye said he often grappled with the concept of being divorced before stating they “would always be together” before declaring himself the priest of the Kardashian household.

“I’m still the priest of that home. They want to make it this matriarch society…but I am the priest of that home, and God is alive. I am the living Robert Kardashian. And I’m going to stand up for what God would want as a Christian.

“We’ll always be together. She dresses exactly like me. My kids are me, and there’s no person that she will ever get with that will influence her more than God and then her priest on earth, which is me,” Ye said.

Other highlights in the interview included Ye calling Piers Morgan “boy” during one testy exchange, claiming he gave Quentin Tarantino the idea for the movie “Django Unchained,” making fun of John Legend’s sweaters and walking out of the interview before eventually returning.

Stacey Abrams Takes Over Latto’s “P###y” To Deliver A Powerful Message

Democratic Governor candidate for Georgia, Stacey Abrams, popped up in the middle of Latto’s show last night (October 22nd) in Atlanta.

Latto gave up some stage time during her opening set for her hometown show on Lizzo’s “The Special Tour.” Stacey Abrams came as Latto performed her women’s empowerment Anthem, titled “P####.”

The rap star’s song takes on the Supreme Court’s controversial decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and features Latto as a champion for women’s Civil Rights.

Abrams held a sign reading “My Body, My Choice” while Latto performed her song. Then Abrams gave her message to a raucous, capacity crowd.

“I’m not going to interrupt your fun. I just want to remind you if you believe it’s my body, my choice, please go and vote,” Stacey Abrams told the crowd.

Earlier in the week, Abrams sparred with her Republican opponent and current Governor, Brian Kemp, over crime, abortion, inflation, and other issues plaguing America.

When the topic of abortion came up, Abrams promised to reverse Georgia’s “Heartbeat Bill.”

Georgia passed the law in 2019 to ban abortions at 6 weeks, and the law went into effect right after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade in June of 2022.

Babyface Doubles Down: R&B Is Not Dead

Babyface is adamant R&B music isn’t “dead.”

In recent years, there has been debate online whether the genre is still popular, with Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs recently asking his Twitter followers, “Who killed R&B?”

But in an interview for Vulture, legendary producer Babyface – real name Kenneth Edmonds – argued that the genre is simply “changing.”

“R&B is not dead, it’s forever changing, and it goes into other generations and they hear it a little bit differently than we hear it,” he said. “I feel like my job is to always try to understand that and not fight it but roll with it and never go to the point to where I’m trying to do it completely myself, where it looks like I’m out of context.”

Babyface went on to note that he has noticed more songs are like “conversations” and don’t have a “big bridge.”

He also pointed to the likes of Summer Walker and Kehlani as examples of stars to watch.

“Where radio used to be the gatekeeper, and if you couldn’t get through radio and then that’s it, kids are proving today that you don’t quite need that. There’s other ways to get there, and so that gives a certain amount of independence. It gives them power because they don’t have to wait for the record company to decide what’s going to be their single,” the 63-year-old added.

Lizzo Had To Have Family Therapy Session To Cuss In Her Songs

Lizzo took her family to a therapy session to reveal that she was going to start swearing in her songs.

The “Juice” star grew up in a religious household and did not swear during her early songs, so when she changed her mind, she sat her family down for a chat to announce her intentions.

“When she started out, she didn’t use profanity at all. She got the family together, took us to a therapy session, and explained to us that she would be using profanity in her songs. She prepared us for it,” her mother, Shari, recalled in an interview with Vanity Fair.

Shari noted that her daughter’s love for racy outfits did not come as a shock to her, adding, “She was always a free spirit and didn’t like clothes, so that was not a surprise at all. She is doing what she loves to do, making her own decisions, and really helping people along the way. I’m so proud of her.”

Lizzo, who gave a TED talk about the history of twerking in 2021, believes she could deliver another speech about the word “b####,” which often appears in her songs, such as “Truth Hurts.”

“When I say ‘I’m 100 percent that b####,’ it’s like an affirmation. It’s a reminder of who you are. I wrote that song for people to sing it and do it for themselves,” she explained. “Do you remember when Missy Elliott and Da Brat took control over that word and empowered it? It’s a colloquialism now, a shout-out to Black women.”

Jada Pinkett Smith Fine With Will Smith Going On Trips With His Ex-Wife

Jada Pinkett Smith is O.K. with her husband, Will Smith, going on trips with his ex-wife Sheree Zampino.

The “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” star and Sheree divorced in 1995 after three years of marriage and continue to co-parent their son Trey.

In an interview for her Red Table Talk series, Jada noted that Will and Sheree have reached a point in their relationship where they can “really enjoy” spending time together in a non-romantic way.

When asked by guest Jana Kramer whether it ever gets under Jada’s “skin,” “The Matrix Resurrections” actress insisted it doesn’t.

“Never. They take trips, I’m not there. They do their thing. Not together romantically but if he’s going on a book tour and his mum is going and his sister, it’s fun for me to watch them enjoy each other. It takes time though,” she explained, before adding jokingly: “We’re not having a ‘throuple’ everyone, let’s make that clear because you know that’ll be the next rumor.”

And while Jada and Sheree get on well now, the mother-of-two wishes she had waited a bit longer before she started dating the Oscar-winning actor.

“When I look back at how much was put on us and how much was put on you because we were so young and it was so public and it was so fresh. Like, you really didn’t even have time to adjust,” the 51-year-old continued. “You had no time. I didn’t understand that, ’cause you know, it was like a boyfriend… I would have definitely had taken a beat as far as putting myself in the dynamic of you guys. Let’s give this a year, let’s let you two just flesh out whatever y’all have to figure out.”

Sheree then recalled the time Jada reached out to her: “You were teary, you were very emotional, and you said, ‘I just didn’t know.’ And basically, what you were saying is, ‘I was in the picture too soon’… and you apologized for that.”

To conclude the conversation, Jada acknowledged that her and Sheree’s bond grew over time.

“We have developed a really nice sisterhood, but it hasn’t been easy along the way,” she added.

Kanye West Says Jamie Foxx And Tarantino Stole ‘Django’ From Him

Rapper-turned-designer Kanye West has dropped another bombshell on the world, sharing that Jamie Foxx and Quentin Tarantino stole the idea for their hit movie, “Django Unchained” from him.

According to Deadline, after working with Foxx on their 2005 hit song, “Gold Digger,” he pitched the story to both Hollywood players.

“Tarantino can write a movie about slavery where – actually him and Jamie, they got the idea from me because the idea for ‘Django,’ I pitched to Jamie Foxx and Quentin Tarantino as the video for ‘Gold Digger,'” Ye said on Piers Morgan Uncensored. “And then Tarantino turned it into a film.”

According to IMDB, “Django Unchained” was based in 1858 and centered around a “bounty-hunter named King Schultz seeks out a slave named Django and buys him because he needs him to find some men he is looking for.”

“Django Unchained” started shooting in November 2011, six years after the alleged pitch, with Foxx as Django Freeman (Jamie Foxx), the German bounty hunter played by Christoph Waltz, and Kerry Washington as his wife.

The executives on the project decided to go a different direction and did not use the proposed video treatment, but “Django Unchained” was a huge hit.

Neither Foxx nor Tarantino have commented on the allegation.

Alicia Keys Could Be New Queen Of Christmas With First Ever Holiday Album

Alicia Keys will celebrate Christmas this year with her first-ever holiday album.

The “Fallin'” singer shared the artwork for Santa Baby on Instagram and announced it would be released on November 4th.

“I know it’s not even Halloween yet….. but I had to let y’all know first!! Santa Baby NOV 4th,” she wrote in the caption. “Just in time for good vibes!!”

In a video on her Instagram Stories, she added, “I got my first-ever holiday album dropping, Santa Baby, on November 4th. I can’t wait for you to vibe with this, this is going to give you that energy! I know it’s Thanksgiving not even yet, I know, I know it’s not even Halloween, but I got to let you know first.”

According to ET Canada, the 11-track album features Alicia’s reimaging of seven classic festive songs as well as four original tracks she has written.

“I picked each song based on my all-time favorites and I wrote the new ones based on real holiday emotions and stories,” she explained in a press release. “The holidays are such a beautiful time to slow down, be with the ones you love and make meaning! Santa Baby is definitely going to be the perfect holiday soundtrack. I can’t wait for you to fall in love with it.”

Alicia will release the album’s first single, December Back June 2nd, on October 28th.

Guess Who Else Kelis Brings To The Yard … Asian Women

R&B singer Kelis posted a video of herself on Instagram traveling abroad, experiencing what many Black women across the world experience when people of other races see them for the first time. Random unprovoked or invited hair touching.

In the caption posted next to the clip, Nas’ former wife and son’s mother wrote, “I don’t even know what to say here. Happy freedom Friday fam!”

She says as the Asian women touch her hair, “You can’t do that,” but the ladies ignore her and continue to play with her braids, staring at them as if they had never seen them in person.

While the language is a barrier, Kelis moves in and touches the main woman’s hair to tell her to stop. That lady yanks her own hair and puts a thumbs up, seeming not to understand the Black woman wants her to leave her be.

Her girlfriend giggles profusely and then says, “Oh, just embrace it.”

The “Milkshake” singer looks into the camera and gives a funny face and says, “Oh, I like to be touched.”

Yasmine Jackson commented on the video and said, “Babyyyyyy I would have flipped my hair so hard it would have smacked them lmao.”

Cannabis advocate Mary Pryor also hopped in the comments and wrote, “I would charge $100 USD per touch. Might as well rack up.”

Nipsey Hussle’s Grandmother Passes Away

Nipsey Hussle’s family is mourning after the recent death of the late rapper’s grandmother.

Nipsey Hussle was extremely close with his grandmother Margaret Boutte, who helped raise the rap star, and his brother, Blacc Sam.

Nipsey spoke on the impact of his grandmother before his untimely death in March of 2019 at the hands of a former associate named Eric Holder Jr. He is currently awaiting sentencing.

“I was raised by my mom and grandma. She was real big on keeping a tight family and big on love,” Nipsey told CBS2 during an interview.

Despite being heartbroken by her grandson’s death, Margaret Boutte mustered up the strength to show some compassion for Holder, who was convicted of first-degree murder in July of 2022.

“I’m praying for him too. I hope he does not get killed in custody. Have enough time to ask God for forgiveness,” Boutte said. “I’m Catholic, I do believe in prayer, and I’m praying for him. He was a young, ignorant situation, and I’m hoping he’s sorry for what he did.”

Thankfully, Margaret Boutte lived long enough to see her grandson receive his star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame in August 2022.

“He was the love of my life. Always very respectful. I miss him, but I look at his picture and remember all the wonderful times we had together. Social Media Explodes After Drake And 21 Savage’s Album Announced New Album “Her Loss”

A collaboration many fans have been clamoring for is finally coming to fruition.

Earlier today (October 22nd), Drake and 21 Savage dropped the video for their song “Jimmy Cooks” from Drake’s album Honestly, Nevermind.

At about the 1:25 second mark in the video, a huge graphic pops up on the screen announcing the album Her Loss, along with the release date of October 28th.

The announcement was made to celebrate 21 Savage’s 30th birthday today.

Earlier this week, fans saw the pair on stage at the Atlanta Forbes arena. 21 Savage performed during Spelman College and Morehouse Colleges’ homecoming festivities, and Drake popped out on this stage as a surprise guest.

Run The Jewels Recruit Latin Artists For Reimagined Version Of ‘RTJ4’ Album

Run the Jewels announced RTJ CU4TRO, a remix album created with a variety of Latin artists.

El-P and Killer Mike bill the project as a reimagining of the duo’s 2020 album RTJ4. The new Run the Jewels project features contributions by Akapellah, Baco Exu Do Blues, the Mexican Institute of Sound, Sarah La Morena, Trooko and more.

“We are honored and delighted to have had the opportunity to work with the amazing producers, vocalists, musicians and artists who made this album happen,” El-P said. “We set out to make a remix album, but we consider the end result of RTJ CU4TRO to be more than that. It’s a reimagining of RTJ4 through the lens of collaboration and a fusing of numerous musical cultures and influences … a rare chance for us to connect, create and be inspired by/with people who we may never have had the chance to get down with if we weren’t lucky enough to be in a position to put it all together.”

He added, “We thank them for all their generosity, energy and creativity. This is a piece of music filled with love, respect and craft and everyone truly gave it their all, genuinely humbling us in the process.”

Sumter Rapper Lil Quan The CEO Gets Hit With 6 Years In The Feds

According to a new release from the Justice Department, South Carolina rapper Lil Quan, whose name is Daquan Tyreek Funchess-Johnson, 26, is about to go away for a long time.

The Sumter native was sentenced to six years in federal prison after he pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The DOJ stated the prosecution presented evidence to the court that proved in November 2019, officers with the Sumter Police Department knew Quan was a gang member and rapper with outstanding warrants from Orangeburg County.

With this knowledge, they popped up at W scheduled performance at a local Sumter nightclub. 

They trialed him at around 3 a.m outside a convenience store as he was headed back to his vehicle. 

That’s where he was arrested and they found a Ruger .45 caliber firearm concealed underneath his jacket in his vehicle.

“The investigation showed that the firearm had previously been reported stolen from a gun store in 2017.  A ballistics analysis through the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN) linked the firearm to shell casings recovered from two separate shooting incidents in Sumter in July 2019,” the release said. “Additionally, during the sentencing hearing, the court heard evidence that Funchess-Johnson, while in jail, recruited and paid a passenger in the vehicle to make a statement taking ownership of the firearm in an attempt to exonerate Funchess-Johnson.  His plan did not succeed.”

United States District Judge Donald Coggins sentenced Funchess-Johnson to 72 months imprisonment, to be followed by a three-year term of court-ordered supervision.  

There is no parole in the federal system.
