Dwayne Johnson Fought For Black Adam To Get a Stand Alone Movie

Dwayne Johnson fought for his comic book character “Black Adam” to have his own origin movie instead of making his introduction in “Shazam!”

The action man originally signed on to star as “Black Adam” alongside Zachary Levi as the titular superhero in Shazam!, which began development in 2014.

However, when he got the script, Johnson realized introducing both characters in the same film would do his supervillain “an incredible disservice.”

“When the first draft of the movie came to us, it was a combination of ‘Black Adam’ and ‘Shazam:’ Two origin stories in one movie,” Johnson recalled to Vanity Fair. “Now that was the goal – so it wasn’t a complete surprise. But when I read that, I just knew in my gut, ‘We can’t make this movie like this. We would be doing ‘Black Adam’ an incredible disservice.’ It would’ve been fine for Shazam having two origin stories converge in one movie, but not good for ‘Black Adam’.”

Johnson called up Warner Bros. and DC Films and campaigned for the projects to be split into two so both characters’ origins could be told properly.

He was successful, and it was announced in early 2017 that “Black Adam” would get his own film.

“I made a phone call,” he explained. “I said, ‘I have to share my thoughts here. It’s very unpopular…’ because everybody thought, ‘Hey, this script is great, let’s go make this movie.’ I said, ‘I really think that you should make ‘Shazam!,’ make that movie on its own in the tone that you want. And I think we should separate this as well.'”

Johnson’s likeness briefly appears in 2019’s “Shazam!” as a magical holograph of “Black Adam” is conjured by the wizard Shazam, and Levi will likely make a similar cameo in “Black Adam.”

Their characters are expected to meet properly onscreen in the future.

“Black Adam,” helmed by Johnson’s “Jungle Cruise” director Jaume Collet-Serra, also stars Aldis Hodge, Noah Centineo, and Pierce Brosnan.

It is due to be released in cinemas in October.

Usher Has High Hopes For His Son Naviyd

Usher believes his 13-year-old Naviyd is the most likely to become a performer like his father.

When asked if any of his four children would follow in his footsteps, the “Yeah!” singer singled out his second son Naviyd because he pays close attention to his father’s Las Vegas residency show, which is held at Dolby Live at the Park MGM hotel.

“In terms of their interests and me pushing them into one direction, if that’s what they want to do, then of course I am going to support it,” Usher told TV show Extra. “Out of all of my kids, I think Naviyd is the one who gives me the majority of the notes and comments when he comes to my show. Everyone else is having a great time, and he is just like zeroed in, like, ‘Missed that cue…’ So, he may have already been bitten by the bug.”

The “Burn” hitmaker shares Naviyd and 14-year-old son Usher V with his ex-wife Tameka Foster. He also has two children under the age of two with his girlfriend, Jenn Goicoechea.

But Usher admitted none of his children are too concerned about what their dad does for a living.

“They got their own lives. They either playing basketball, acting camp… my older kids. My younger babies, they are swimming, and they are having a good time with each other,” he smiled.

Salman Rushdie Remains ‘Feisty And Defiant’ After Onstage Attack

Salman Rushdie remains in “critical condition” after he was attacked onstage at an event in New York on Friday.

A man stabbed the “Midnight’s Children” author after rushing onto the stage shortly before he was scheduled to deliver a lecture. Rushdie suffered injuries to the liver and hand and may lose an eye.

On Sunday, the 75-year-old’s son, Zafar Rushdie, issued a statement via Twitter in which he offered an update on his father’s health.

“Following the attack on Friday, my father remains in critical condition in hospital receiving extensive ongoing medical treatment. We are extremely relieved that yesterday he was taken off the ventilator and additional oxygen, and he was able to say a few words. Though his life-changing injuries are severe, his usual feisty and defiant sense of humor remains intact,” he wrote. “We are so grateful to all the audience members who bravely leaped to his defense and administered first aid along with the police and doctors who have cared for him and for the outpouring of love and support from around the world.”

Elsewhere, agent Andrew Wylie insisted Rushdie’s “road to recovery” had begun.

“It will be long; the injuries are severe, but his condition is headed in the right direction,” he commented.

Hadi Matar has been charged with attempted second-degree murder and second-degree assault. He pleaded not guilty to the charges during a court appearance on Saturday.

Rushdie’s fourth novel, “The Satanic Verses,” was the subject of controversy after its publication in 1988.

Muslims claimed the writer mocked their faith with the book, and following death threats, he was put under police protection in the U.K. for many years.

3 Continents, 1 Man. Abel Maxwell’s Inspiring Journey To Success

Abel Maxwell’s main drive is to leave a legacy of his own. “Chasing success is only natural, but sometimes people need to slow down a little bit and ask themselves one important question: What happens when you are gone?” says Maxwell. “People often think that their legacy is the money and sentiments they leave to their loved ones. But a true legacy is so much more. It’s more than money, cars, and houses.”

For Abel Maxwell, leaving a legacy means having someone that will tell and recount your story and wisdom for generations to come. “You need to ask yourself who will tell your story when you’re gone. Who’ll share your life experiences with future generations — things that will help shape their way of thinking and help them succeed in life?” he says. “Only when you have answers to those questions, can you say that you achieved success and fulfillment.”

Abel Maxwell is a Toronto-based musician, entrepreneur, and bestselling author. In demand on international scenes with four recorded albums, Abel Maxwell has become a recognized influencer who inspires young people to pursue excellence and chase their dreams.

He’s been the Official Spokesperson for Épelle-Moi Canada, which aims to promote the French language, in partnership with Spelling-Bee Canada. He was also a Producer and Radio Show Host with the University of Ottawa’s CHUO 89.1 FM leading his well renowned and acclaimed show TROPIC FM. In 2015, Maxwell was nominated as the best male performer at the Trille-Or Gala by Radio Canada and APCM, and in 2016 he was awarded the UNESCO/International Humanitarian Fashion Week Community Achievement Award.

However, Maxwell’s journey to get to where he is now wasn’t easy, but it makes his success even more impressive. Ten years ago, he left his home in Lyon, France, and landed in Toronto with only a dream. Maxwell had no money and no connections. He barely spoke English. However, he was determined to make a name for himself, so he wasn’t picky about what he had to do to survive. He did odd jobs until he eventually found himself working in corporate finance.

Those were times, Maxwell explains when he had very little faith in himself. He was afraid to pursue his dream of inspiring the younger generation. However, the finance job allowed Maxwell to pursue a results-oriented mentorship and find inspiration to do what he loves — music. “I didn’t believe in myself and I was full of fear when it was about pursuing my dream of performing music and inspiring young people,” says Abel Maxwell.

“I started to educate myself and got mentorship to find more inspiration and more confidence and now I have a few awards, a best-selling book, four albums, working on my fifth one, and many international engagements under my belt.”

Thanks to his drive, persistence, and dedication, Abel Maxwell is well on his way to achieving unfathomable success. As he explains, now that he’s an accomplished author and artist, his goal is to inspire the birth of new brands and inspire young people to never give up chasing dreams.

“I want my legacy to be a blueprint for every young person that has a dream to become the best version of themselves,” says Abel Maxwell. And for them, he has a piece of advice that will undoubtedly help them on their journey to success, “Whatever dream you undertake, never give up. Keep moving forward no matter the obstacles and no matter the judgments of people. Ironically, those people who used to laugh at you will say that they always believed in you and, in the end, you will win.”

Judge Refuses To Exclude Jurors Who’ve Seen ‘Surviving R. Kelly’ Documentary From His Trial

People who’ve seen Surviving R. Kelly will be allowed to serve as jurors in the disgraced singer’s Chicago trial.

R. Kelly’s attorney Jennifer Bonjean asked a judge to ban any prospective jurors who’ve seen the Lifetime documentary series. U.S. District Judge Harry D. Leinenweber denied the request on the first day of jury selection, which began on Monday (August 15).

According to NBC News, nine people revealed they’ve seen at least part of Surviving R. Kelly in juror questionnaires. 70 potential jurors said they haven’t watched any of the docuseries.

R. Kelly’s attorney claimed it’s “impossible” for a person to watch the docuseries and separate it from the criminal case. But Judge Leinenweber pushed back, saying it’s wrong to prevent someone from serving as a juror if they’ve only seen part of the series.

Lifetime’s six-part documentary premiered in 2019. It covered decades of R. Kelly’s alleged sexual misconduct and featured interviews with his victims.

R. Kelly is currently facing a trial for child pornography and obstruction of justice charges in Chicago. At least two of his alleged victims will testify.

Earlier this year, the 55-year-old artist was sentenced to 30 years in prison following a conviction in New York. A jury found him guilty of federal racketeering and sex trafficking charges in 2021.

Tolga Vida: How Music Can Change You From The Inside

If you want an instant mood change, turn on music. It’s no coincidence that medical research has found phenomenal use of music in treatments. From jazz to rap – music is an unassuming weapon that holds tremendous power.

Flip The Switch hitmaker Tolga Vida explains how you can use that power to your advantage. With music, connect with your inner self and tap into its limitless capabilities.

Empower Your Core

Through music as a channel, you can release your pent-up feelings. Be it the negative ones of anger and anxiety or positive ones like excitement and happiness. Music gives your inner self a voice.

They say that music speaks to you. But Tolga Vida puts forth a groundbreaking theory – it isn’t music that speaks to you. It is your inner self speaking to you using music as a medium. That perfectly sums up why the same melodies and lyrics mean one thing to one person and something entirely different to another.

Create A Therapeutic Environment

Are you whipping up a mouth-watering dish? Gardening on a quiet afternoon? There’s one thing that can enhance the experience. You guessed it – music.

Tolga Vida suggests plugging in your headphones as a relaxing way to turn any activity into a way to reach your core. It is a proven way to bring out your innermost self.

Nourish Your Imagination

Music lets your inner child break free. It does not judge, and it does not restrict.

Tolga Vida says, “On most days, we keep our feelings caged up, not realizing how we’re pushing our deepest self even deeper down.”

Music releases our inner self. Which helps us connect with who we really are.

Tolga Vida asks every person to give music a chance to change their lives for the better. So, go ahead and play some tunes and connect with your inner self!

Wiz Khalifa Says Social Media Makes It Difficult For New Artists To Gain Traction

Wiz Khalifa believes it is harder for artists to break into the music industry in the age of social media.

In an interview for Billboard to promote his new album Multiverse, the rapper shared that he thinks it’s a “little bit more difficult” for rising talents to find success compared to when he launched his career in the mid-2000s.

“It’s hard to organically go viral. It’s hard to recreate moments as well. So, if you have a dope moment, it’s hard to spin off that and create a brand off that moment, because everything is based off advertising,” he said. “It doesn’t really lean toward building up their own platform, it really just builds up the platforms they’re performing on. Which is cool, but that’s not what I’m into. I’ve never been into making somebody else money.”

Wiz went on to note that it’s “very difficult” to “get relevant and stay relevant” due to the amount of content circulating online.

“The way I see it is: You just use it for business and as much promotion as possible,” the 34-year-old continued. “It’s hard because it’s in reverse – the more following you have, the less interaction you’re gonna get, because corporations don’t want you to be stronger than them.”

Multiverse, which marks Wiz’s first solo album since 2018, dropped on July 29th.

Alec Baldwin Pulled Trigger Of Gun In Fatal Shooting On Rust Set According To The FBI

Police investigators have maintained Alec Baldwin “pulled the trigger” on the prop firearm that fatally wounded cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of “Rust.”

Last October, the “30 Rock” actor’s prop gun was accidentally discharged during a rehearsal for a scene in Santa Fe, New Mexico, killing Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza.

While Baldwin alleged “the trigger wasn’t pulled” during a TV special that aired in December, officials from the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) have released a forensic report, obtained by ABC News on Friday, which rejected the 64-year-old’s claim.

Following “accidental discharge testing,” the FBI officers concluded that the gun “could not be made to fire without a pull of the trigger.”

With the “hammer fully cocked,” they also asserted that the firearm “could not be made to fire without a pull of the trigger while the working internal components were intact and functional.”

Representatives for Baldwin and the producers of Rust have not yet commented on the report’s findings.

The incident is still being investigated by the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office, and no charges or arrests have been made.

The actor and Rust producers were named as defendants in a wrongful death lawsuit filed by the cinematographer’s widower Matthew Hutchins in February.

Baldwin has consistently maintained his innocence and recently said he feels “very hopeful” that he won’t be held criminally responsible.

Snoop Dogg Scores Top 10 Song, Joins Jay-Z & Mariah Carey In Rare Club

Snoop Dogg pulled off a rare feat in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The Doggfather became the third solo artist to earn Top 10 hits in each of the past four decades. He returned to the Top 10 with “Bad Decisions,” a collaboration with Benny Blanco and BTS.

Snoop Dogg’s latest single debuted at No. 10 on the Hot 100. He joined Jay-Z and Mariah Carey as the only solo acts with Top 10 songs in the 1990s, 2000s, 2010s and 2020s. Beyoncé also had Top 10 tracks in those decades, but her 1990s hits were Destiny’s Child releases.

“Bad Decisions” was Snoop Dogg’s first Top 10 song as a lead artist since 2012. He last cracked the Top 10 as part of a duo with Wiz Khalifa. Their song “Young, Wild and Free” featuring Bruno Mars peaked at No. 7.

Benny Blanco, BTS and Snoop Dogg’s single secured the No. 10 spot on the Hot 100 with 10.1 million streams. “Bad Decisions” sold 45,000 digital downloads along with 16,000 copies on CD and 5,000 on cassette.

“Bad Decisions” marked the 12th Top 10 song of Snoop Dogg’s career. His classic single “Who Am I? (What’s My Name?)” became his first Top 10 hit in 1994.

Kodak Black Wants His Car And Cash Back From The Cops After Drug Arrest

Kodak Black is demanding the return of his car and $75,000 in cash seized during his July arrest.

Court documents reveal the rapper is seeking legal help to recover his Dodge Durango and the nearly $75,000 in cash that authorities seized while arresting him.

The 25-year-old was arrested in Florida last month, with police pulling him over because his tinted windows appeared darker than the legal limit.

Cops then claimed they smelled marijuana, and in the resulting search, officers found the money and 31 oxycodone pills.

Kodak’s attorney Bradford Cohen reportedly turned over Kodak’s prescriptions for the pills to the authorities, saying they treat the musician’s chronic pain. Cohen further explained that Kodak is often paid in cash for his gigs, and keeps large sums of money with him to pay various expenses on tour.

The “Super Gremlin” rapper was released the day after his arrest, having posted a $75,000 bond.

Cohen filed a motion requesting the court push for the return of Kodak’s car and cash. He argued that with Kodak’s prescriptions handed to authorities, there is no reason to withhold his Dodge and money.

As part of his release, Kodak is required to wear an ankle monitor and undergo drug testing. He can still attend venues if he provides two days’ advance notice.

The rapper posted, then deleted, a series of comments on Twitter regarding his arrest, writing that he would sue everyone involved “for every dollar, I gotta spend bout this s###.”

Eminiem’s daughter is getting into the rap game by responding to the new 10-min diss from The Game.

I don’t know if this song “The Black Slim Shady” is going to work out. I think it is masterful. But the Church of Eminem is probably not in agreement. As a diss, I think The Game is more than worthy to garner a response from the rap god. He responded to MGK and Nick Cannon. I think The Game poses a RAP issue with Eminem, where it really could be bar for bar. These guys are both on the older side so I doubt it will get to that level. Nevertheless, The Game did his thing.

Here is some bad news I saw over at Freddy-O. The video babe from the Jay-Z video is missing!

https://www.instagram.com/p/ChSLwQcLXKP/

I use this meme every other day.

And there are more out there, because she was so pretty. I mean, Jay-Z used her for the iconic visuals for “I Just Wanna Love U (Give It 2 Me).”

I hope they find her.

Irv Gotti Mentions Jay-Z During A Conversation About FBI’s Raid Of Murder Inc.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s search of former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home has dominated political news over the last week. Another 2003 FBI investigation of Irv Gotti’s Murder Inc. Records made headlines at the time as well.

Irv Gotti is currently on a media run to promote BET’s The Murder Inc. Story docuseries. The veteran record executive spoke to HipHopDX about the fallout from the federal government raiding his label’s Manhattan offices nearly twenty years ago.

“You got to be smart,” said Irv Gotti. “And the other thing, to anyone who’s listening, is you got to have an unwavering belief in yourself. My goddaughter Ricky, she’s like, ‘You always win, you always winning,’ and I’m like, ‘Ricky, you don’t see the thousand no’s because I don’t wear it.’ I don’t show it. You just see the one yes and think, ‘Wow.’ I got told ‘f### you’ a thousand times before I got to the one yes.”

The Queens, New York native added, “I don’t care who says they don’t like what I got or they don’t believe in this, I don’t care. They interviewed [Jay-Z] one time and they asked Hov, ‘What’s the smartest thing you ever done?’ And he sat there, he thought about it for a second and he said, ‘We didn’t give up.’ So it’s basically the same thing. But you have to have tough skin and a belief in yourself.”

Irv Gotti produced “Can I Live” on Jay-Z’s classic 1996 debut studio album Reasonable Doubt. Jay later tapped Murder Inc. artist Ja Rule for 1998’s Platinum-certified single “Can I Get A…” off Vol. 2… Hard Knock Life. The track also lives on Def Jam’s Rush Hour Soundtrack.

Excitement rose among Many Hip Hop fans in 1999 about Irv Gotti’s proposed Murder Inc. supergroup, made up of Jay-Z, Ja Rule, and fellow New York-bred emcee DMX. The three then-Def Jam signees even appeared together on an iconic XXL magazine cover. The trio never officially released a collaborative project.

Megan Thee Stallion Talks Delivering A Message To Toxic Men By Collabing With Future

Megan The Stallion’s “Pressurelicious” featuring Future made a lot of headlines over the last few days. Apparently, Meg paid the Atlanta-based rapper $250,000 for his feature on the single which shocked some fans.

Future, the self-described Toxic King, uses “Pressurelicious” to say, “Hold up, I’ma put my demon in her veins.” While sitting down with SiriusXM host Swaggy Sie on Hip Hop Nation, Megan The Stallion explained why she wanted the Toxic King for the collaboration.

“I just feel like all the boys be talking s### about being toxic, and y’all ain’t the only ones that come with pressure with us too,” said Megan Thee Stallion. “So the Hot Girls have to show, whatever the boys call themselves, we had to show them what was up.”

Meg continued, “There ain’t even no substance to it. Y’all just toxic. It be like, ‘Yeah, we up kings.’ And it be like, ‘What do y’all be doing? What did y’all do?’ It’s always something stupid. So I’m like, ‘Come get y’all leader on the song and see how y’all like that.'”

An official visualizer for the Megan Thee Stallion and Future’s “Pressurelicious” arrived on YouTube back on July 21. The Foxxatron-filmed video has amassed more than 2.8 million views on the platform. A second animated “Pressurelicious” visualizer collected another 117,000 YouTube plays.

“Pressurelicious” has peaked at #55 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart so far. As of press time, the song collected over 8 million streams on Spotify after debuting at #38 on the Daily Top Songs USA chart with 443,000 streams.

Megan Thee Stallion’s sophomore studio album, Traumazine, hosts “Pressurelicious” featuring Future. The project also contains contributions by guest artists like Key Glock, Latto, Pooh Shiesty, Rico Nasty, Jhené Aiko, and Lucky Daye. Industry forecasters project Traumazine to open with 40,000-50,000 first-week units.

Cardi B Says Other Celebrities Use Her As A Marketing Plan

Cardi B had a very active weekend online. A brief back-and-forth with social media personality Bella Poarch ended with Poarch issuing an apology to the Hip Hop superstar.

Poarch’s verified Twitter account responded to a tweet about her new EP by writing, “Better than any Cardi album.” The 25-year-old TikToker later apologized after insisting someone hacked her page.

Two days after Bella Poarch’s mea culpa, Cardi had more to say on Twitter. On Sunday, the Invasion of Privacy album creator posted a subliminal message for her 23 million followers.

“This week just [proves] what [we’ve] been saying for years… I’m part of [people’s] marketing plan. I refuse to help if I don’t get pay 💰,” tweeted Cardi B yesterday evening.

That August 14 tweet by Cardi B gained a lot of attention on the social media platform. More than 18,000 accounts liked the tweet. Some Twitter users speculated Cardi’s message was just a response to the Bella Poarch drama.

However, other people assumed Cardi B’s post was actually a response to Nicki Minaj’s Barbz fanbase. A screenshot of a supposed deleted-tweet by Cardi began circulating on Twitter where she allegedly told a Bella Poarch supporter to “go stream.”

Some of the Barbz took the “go stream” statement as a shot at Nicki Minaj. Apparently, the “Super Freaky Girl” rapper saw the situation the same way. In her own deleted-tweet, Nicki stated, “Imagine telling da Barbz to ‘go stream’ then they break a whole Spotify record.”

Cardi B and Nicki Minaj, as well as their respective fans, have been feuding for years. The two top female rap stars have addressed each other in interviews, argued online, and nearly fought at a New York Fashion Week party.

In July, Nicki Minaj apparently called longtime collaborator Kanye West a “clown” because he appeared on Cardi B’s “Hot S###” single with Lil Durk. However, Cardi recently defended her rival against a troll account that went viral for spreading unproven accusations about Minaj.

This was not the first time Cardi B shared a take about other celebrities using her as a “marketing plan” for social media promotion. The Bronx native’s verse on Offset’s “Clout” in 2019 included Cardi rapping, “Soon as these b###### got something to sell, they say my name, say my name, Destiny Child.”

Rod Wave’s ‘Beautiful Mind’ Album On Pace To Debut At No. 1

Florida’s Rod Wave may not be considered an A-list Hip Hop artist at the moment. However, the rapper has a loyal fan base that keeps putting Wave near the top of the album chart.

Rod Wave released his Beautiful Mind studio LP on August 12. The project came out on the same day as some heavy competition. Traumazine by Megan Thee Stallion dropped that Friday as well.

According to HitsDailyDouble, Rod Wave’s Beautiful Mind is greatly outpacing Megan Thee Stallion’s Traumazine when it comes to early sales projections. In fact, Beautiful Mind is on pace to debut at No. 1.

HDD reports that Beautiful Mind will bring in between 120,000 units and 140,000 units. That range should be enough to place Rod Wave atop next week’s Billboard 200 rankings.

Previously, Rod Wave scored a #1 album last year with SoulFly. The album brought in 130,000 first-week units. His debut LP, Ghetto Gospel, peaked at #10 in 2019. 2020’s Pray 4 Love reach #2.

If Beautiful Mind makes it to #1 on the Billboard 200, Rod Wave will join other Hip Hop acts to lead the rankings in 2022. Seven rappers have earned a #1 album over the last eight months.

Gunna’s DS4Ever, Lil Durk’s 7220, Tyler, The Creator’s Call Me If You Get Lost, Pusha T’s It’s Almost Dry, Future’s I Never Liked You, Kendrick Lamar’s Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers, and Drake’s Honestly, Nevermind peaked at No. 1.

‘The Rap Game UK’ Returns For Fourth Series, Hosted By Krept & Konan + DJ Target

The Rap Game UK returned at the weekend (Aug. 11) with a fresh batch of hopefuls vying for a chance to be victorious and win the big money prize.

Contests on series four are competing for a chance to win £20k (just over $24k) to kickstart a career in the industry. However, unlike other more cutthroat reality shows where an unlucky contender is eliminated each week, The Rap Game UK does it differently. The artists will live together for the entire six weeks until a winner is selected.

The Hosts Talk “The Rap Game UK” Series 4

According to Konan, one of the show’s priorities is “to give them the gems, knowing that this journey is not easy and will never start being easy.”

Along the road to the final, the artists will perform various tasks and challenges to prove their rapping credentials. They’ll also have the opportunity to meet some heavyweights of the U.K. rap scene for mentoring. Among the names announced are trap rappers D-Block Europe, grime pioneer Lethal Bizzle, and drill star Unknown T.

“We love to watch the contestants’ development and growth,” DJ Target explained to NME. “And when they take on feedback, from not just ourselves but all the guest mentors, you can see their progress.”

The Rap Game UK has proved popular, becoming a reality TV staple for fans and winning awards. However, Krept says he wants the stars of the show to shine even brighter.

“We still have a fair bit to go where someone’s gone and done the show, and then been mad successful,” he admitted. “I feel like we’ve still got that to achieve. But there’s so many stars on this season – this might be the one.”
