Rapper Hitman of critically acclaimed Bay Area
rap group RBL Posse, was found gunned down in his car on Sunday (Feb. 2).
While details of the murder are very sketchy,
early reports said that the rapper was found gunned down in his car, after leaving
The Sundial, in the Hunters Point section of San Francisco.
"The shooting of Hitman marks another sad
day in Bay Area rap," hip-hop journalist and community activist Davey D
told AllHipHop.com. "Even sadder is the fact that this is the second member
of the pioneering group RBL Posse to be killed."
Another member of the group, Mr. Cee, was murdered
New Years day in 1996, after he was shot nine times.
RBL Posse, which originally consisted of Mr.
Cee, Black C and Hitman, released their major label Atlantic Records debut Eye
For An Eye
as a duo after Mr. Cee was gunned down. The group grinded for years on the San Francisco
underground circuit.
"Hitman was a cool guy and folks are in
disbelief because it comes at a time when there is a surge in the Bay Area’s
music scene. It’s a sad situation," Davey D continued.
The group released several critically acclaimed
albums and worked with such artists as Spice 1, Rappin’ 4 Tay and Mystikal.
