(AllHipHop News) Rapsody is back with a brand new record titled “12 Problems.” Her latest song, which tackles police brutality and social justice, will appear on Roc Nation’s forthcoming Reprise compilation.
“My new single, ’12 Problems’ is out now and a part of Reprise – a musical initiative uniting artists in protest against social injustice. A portion of proceeds will support organizations fighting these social injustices,” tweeted Rapsody.
The North Carolina-raised emcee has also rapped about societal issues on her critically-acclaimed projects Laila’s Wisdom and Eve. The former studio LP earned Rapsody a Grammy Award nomination for Best Rap Album.
YHN HammerTime hails from 3 different countries, originating from Sierra Leone, West Africa. Coming from humble beginnings, the multi-cultured rapper has been through the most: surviving a gruesome civil war and witnessing much death and disparity.
Speaking on the reality of being from a third world country, he states, “Whatever poverty country that you think of, it’s pretty much everything right there.”
Now, real name Mohamed Sesay is here to tell his story from Africa, London, and America. Coming to the DMV area at age 17, he will be celebrating a decade in the States come next year. While there was no culture shock due to prior experiences living in different places, he injects real-life experiences and storytelling into his lyrics, detailing everything from the pain to the success.
YHN stands for Young Hustle Nation, with HammerTime playing the CEO to his own independent label. After a short hiatus, he returns to unleash singles “Back At It Again” and “Lift Off” — declaring his worth in the rap game once and for all.
AllHipHop: How was it growing up in the DMV?
YHN HammerTime: It gives you the best of both worlds depending on the crowd you mingle with, which is what every country’s like. Over here, it gives you the best of both worlds depending on the crowd you hang with. You could see the good side of it, then you could see the bad side of it. I’ve mingled with both, so I got to see a bit of both.
AllHipHop: When did music come into play?
YHN HammerTime: I’ve always used to mess with music since I was a kid, but I actually took it serious in 2018. The end of this year will make it two years. I always had my hands tied with music as far as record label-wise. I had artists all the way up to London at the time, but a lot of them were getting locked up, getting killed… it’s a long story. I figured if you want to get the job done, getting it done yourself is the best way.
AllHipHop: So you were managing artists before you became an artist yourself?
YHN HammerTime: Exactly. I still have an artist that’s under my label right now, that had a song with DaBaby.
AllHipHop: How did that happen?
YHN HammerTime: I have a record label team. I hit one of my assistants that’d been working for me for a while, told them to reach out to him for a feature. The feature got done through email. Right after that, he had a show in the DMV at the Fillmore location. At the Fillmore, we went there and shot the music video right then and there. It was a wrap from then on for him.
AllHipHop: Did y’all have to pay?
YHN HammerTime: Yeah, of course. An artist like that, if you don’t really have that type of relationship, I understand why he needs to charge everybody. He’s crazy hot. [laughs]
AllHipHop: How much?
YHN HammerTime: I have an eye for noticing an artist before they get crazy big. At the time, he was getting close to blowing up so the actual feature itself when it was recorded was $2500. The actual music video itself was $5000, so $7500 all in all. I held it for a year. When he blew up, I said “okay, time to drop.”
AllHipHop: When did you come up with Young Hustle Nation?
YHN HammerTime: At first when I started, I was the youngest. Since I’ve been in the DMV, a lot of people around me now are young and none of them have a 9 to 5. They have to make it happen somehow, some way to make it work. I came up with the terminology, Young Hustle Nation, stating what it stands for.
AllHipHop: When did you realize you could do music as your own artist?
YHN HammerTime: This was 2018. I always had a bad habit of having to stay behind someone’s back, telling them do this, do that. I’m very terrible at having patience, I’m not good at that. I get frustrated quick, so I figured I’d do it myself. Nobody will have to tell me to do this, do that. I’ll do it myself at my pace, when I want to do it.
AllHipHop: Have you always wanted to be an artist, or no?
YHN HammerTime: I’d say 50/50. The lifestyle I was living in, I didn’t want a public eye on me. 50/50 because I actually do like doing music, the only thing is the headache of dealing with what comes with it if you gain fame. That’s what a lot of people don’t understand. They always want to blow up and this and that which I understand, but are you ready to control the fame? Because you could lose yourself if you don’t know how to control it.
AllHipHop: You just released “Back At It Again” visual, what was the inspo behind this record?
YHN HammerTime: I took a pause. When I came back, that’s one of the first songs I’d done and put out. That’s why I named it “Back At It Again,” the verse itself explains what’s going on, still right now. Where I started at, from the same area, I could still pull up and get the same love. That’s exactly the visual I was showing them, back at it again.
AllHipHop: Best memory from the visual?
YHN HammerTime: It wasn’t actually caught on camera. [laughs] It was the scene of when we’re shooting dice, I actually won $3700 from shooting dice that day. That was my best memory from shooting.
AllHipHop: You just dropped “Lift Off” visual, what were the risks you took to make it this far?
YHN HammerTime: I can’t really go into detail. I’ll say life-threatening risks, meaning death or jail. To this day, I live that lifestyle. It’s still taking risks. If you want success period, you’ve got to take some type of risk. That type of risk comes with it, depending on the type of lane you’re taking to gain the success. The lane I took was a rough lane to get out of. It was really a risk to make it this far. A lot of people I started with, at the end of 2018, within three months I lost four of my homeboys. All of them got killed from gun violence. It’s a life risk to make it this far. I’m one of the few to come out.
AllHipHop: How does music help you cope?
YHN HammerTime: Makes me explain myself in a way that I don’t explain to human beings. I explain it to the mic, it’s easier. The mic just listens, it doesn’t talk back.
AllHipHop: 3 things you need in the studio?
YHN HammerTime: See, I don’t really have a necessity. I’d say water, pretty much. I’ve always been nervous of getting addicted to stuff, so I’ve always kept my distance. Water, snacks, food. Sometimes I might order pizza because it’s easier to deal with, or order some wings.
AllHipHop: You don’t smoke or drink?
YHN HammerTime: On and off, but I know how to control it.
AllHipHop: How was your pool party in LA? What happened with the shooting?
YHN HammerTime: It was real crazy. It was nice but it ended up crazy because a majority of what was actually planned itself didn’t go as planned, meaning a lot of people who weren’t even supposed to be there appeared at the location. It got crazy, but it was fun at the same time.
AllHipHop: What happened with the shooting?
YHN HammerTime: A lot of people that weren’t invited made it there, so it led to a situation where it got out of hand. People were playing defense for life.
AllHipHop: Goals for yourself as an artist at this point of your career?
YHN HammerTime: Getting my music rolling. I’m starting to see a difference, but I want to see a major difference. My social media: Twitter, Instagram, Youtube’s starting to pick up which is a good thing. “Lift Off” visual that dropped did 27K views within 36 hours. A day and some change, which is actually good because when I started, to gain 5,000 views would’ve taken me probably 2 months. It’s definitely starting to pick up.
AllHipHop: Anything else you want to let the people know?
YHN HammerTime: I’ma just keep working. Keep watching.
(AllHipHop News) Chris Rock isn’t upset by Jimmy Fallon’s blackface impersonation of him on an old episode of “Saturday Night Live” as he doesn’t believe his pal’s intentions were malicious.
The “Tonight Show” host Fallon apologized earlier this year for the 20-year-old sketch, in which he wore blackface makeup to play the “New Jack City” star.
However, Chris says he wasn’t offended by the scandal surrounding the sketch – as he doesn’t believe his friend had racist intent.
“Hey, man, I’m friends with Jimmy. Jimmy’s a great guy,” he told The New York Times. “And he didn’t mean anything. A lot of people want to say intention doesn’t matter, but it does. And I don’t think Jimmy Fallon intended to hurt me. And he didn’t.”
Chris is more bothered about the death of African-Americans at the hands of police – an issue he highlighted in his 2018 special “Tamborine” – two years before the Black Lives Matter movement became a global phenomenon following protests against the death of Minnesota man George Floyd.
In the special, Chris said: “Whenever the cops gun down an innocent black man, they always say the same thing: ‘Well, it’s not most cops. It’s just a few bad apples.’ I know being a cop is hard. But some jobs can’t have bad apples. You know, American Airlines can’t be like, ‘Most of our pilots like to land. We just got a few bad apples that like to crash into mountains. Please bear with us.'”
Reflecting on the set now, he says it’s strange seeing his points get international attention, due to politicians like President Trump using similar language.
“I remember when ‘Tamborine’ dropped, I got a lot of flak over that cop thing,” he recalled. “There was a lot of people trying to start a fire that never really picked up. It’s so weird that, two years later, it’s right on. I remember watching the news and Trump said ‘bad apples.’ It was like, you did it! You did it!”
However, Chris also noted that Public Enemy, KRS-One, and Marvin Gaye had spoken up long before he did – and the issue is “not going away.”
The “Stronger” rapper is no stranger to hitting headlines with his social media antics, but reached a new level of controversy when he posted the clip on Wednesday.
He did so as part of an ongoing row over his bid to buy back his masters from company executives at Sony and Universal so he can officially own his recordings.
But the move didn’t go down too well with bosses at Twitter, who banned the star from using the site for 12 hours following the sharing of the video.
Kanye used his pal Rick Fox to announce the ban, with the sportsman-turned-actor tweeting: “My friend @kanyewest wants you all to know that he was kicked off of Twitter for 12 hours.”
However, sources told TMZ.com that it wasn’t the urinating video which led to the ban, but Kanye’s decision to share the contact information for Forbes editor and chief content officer Randall Lane.
In the contact listing, which listed Lane as “Randall Forbes”, Kanye shared the businessman’s phone number, as he called him a “white supremacist.”
“The platform removed Kanye’s Forbes Tweet because it revealed private information and Ye’s account has since been temporarily locked,” Twitter sources told TMZ.
It’s the latest in a run of bizarre actions, which began in early July, when Kanye announced he would be running for election as U.S. President in November.
He also revealed at a political rally that he and his wife Kim Kardashian had considered aborting their firstborn daughter North, and then attacked Kim and her mother Kris in a Twitter rant.
Kanye just returned to Twitter to continue his crusade against the record labels, in order to free a multitude of artists from their contracts, claiming they are modern day slaves.
(AllHipHop News) Travis Scott is being fined by the city of Downey, California after a crowd of over 500 people turned up at a McDonald’s restaurant to meet the rapper at a promotional event for his Cactus Jack meal.
However, both the rapper and the McDonald’s location have been cited by the city for failing to get an event permit after a huge crowd of fans showed up at the fast-food joint last week for the special launch.
According to the tickets, Travis failed to obtain an event permit for a crowd over 200 people before he showed up to greet fans, who were waiting in line to try his meal.
He also allegedly failed to get a permit to film. Both citations come with $100 fines.
The event reportedly ended early after Travis got mobbed by fans, many of whom were maskless and not social distancing, forcing him to run for cover.
A spokesperson for City of Downey officials told the news outlet police attended to make sure the large crowd stayed safe and no injuries or arrests were reported.
The “Anaconda” hitmaker had originally intended to include the tune on her album Queen, but ended up releasing the project without “Sorry” as she encountered clearance issues.
Nicki Minaj had previously insisted she did nothing wrong, arguing the sample falls under the fair use category of copyright law, and requested the case be dismissed. She later decided to seek a jury trial to clear her name.
On Wednesday, U.S. district judge Virginia A. Phillips ruled in favor of Minaj, agreeing that her interpretation of the song was “fair use.”
“Artists usually experiment with works before seeking licenses from rights holders and rights holders typically ask to see a proposed work before approving a license,” Judge Phillips said in the ruling.
“A ruling uprooting these common practices would limit creativity and stifle innovation within the music industry.”
(AllHipHop News) Rapper Tyler, The Creator is releasing a new chilled flavor as part of a collaboration with bosses at Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams.

The product was developed under the “Earfquake” hitmaker’s Golf le Fleur fashion staple and will be available via the sweet treat brand’s website from September 17th and in Jeni’s stores on September 21st.
(AllHipHop News) Rapper Tyga has become the latest celebrity to join adults-only video site OnlyFans.

“Yo, what’s poppin? UPDATE: Here is some good news. Biz Markie is not in a coma. I admit we have heard a lot, but I am not going to delve further into his status. Just pray he gets better.
(AllHipHop Rumors) I am sad to send these sort of rumors, but there’s a terrible rumor going on…and on. The rumor is that Biz Markie is now in a coma after fighting complications with diabetes. You remember last month or so, he went into the hospital. I even wrote an ambitious rumor that he was doing better, but that was not the case.
The word is his condition is not improving. This is sad news considering sources said the opposite.
For those that don’t know, Biz started out as a beatbox for Roxanne Shante, but he would eventually soar as a star in his own right. He was one of the earliest hitmakers and a member of The Juice Crew. He also went on to act and DJ. People that know, KNOW! Biz can rock a party.
Now, all we can do is pray. I know you young bucks think its going to last forever, but its not. At some point, you will need the love of your community. Biz has that love so let’s send positive energy.
“Isn’t Lizzo the nicest person in the world?” Cardi said as she showed off the flowers. “Look what she sent me! She is just a beautiful a## person. I just love her so much.”
In the accompanying card, Lizzo reeled off her pal’s accomplishments, writing: “Flowers for a flower! Congrats on all of your successes this summer – know you are loved and are love.”
And there’s more to come – Lizzo signed off by writing: “P.S. I’m sending you something good this week. Love, Lizzo!”

(AllHipHop News) Kanye West may be barred from sending out tweets on his verified account at the moment, but his week-long Twitter rants have ignited several conversations about the entertainment business. Ye took it upon himself to blast multiple sectors of the industry.
West called out the Universal Music Group and Sony Music Group corporations for what he views as unfair contractual practices involving recording artists. He also posted a video of himself urinating on a Grammy Award trophy.
The G.O.O.D. Music label founder has received some backing from other musicians. For example, 17-year-old “Shotta Flow” rapper NLE Choppa tweeted, “Kanye ain’t said one lie.”
Choppa later added, “I’m going all the way back independent myself after this album even tho I own my music but it is time for us to start 100% owning our craft. Time for us to start pushing [a] new agenda instead of the same with us killing our own when we got a bigger problem.”
Retired rapper Logic responded to a specific West tweet about record companies’ “distribution fees” and the difficulty of recouping. The Maryland native tweeted, “I feel you, Def Jam ain’t tryin a pay @LilTunechi [Lil Wayne] his fee so I guess the [‘Perfect’] remix aint coming out…. owe a few of my folks they money honestly.”
I’m going all the way back independent myself after this album 🤷🏽♂️ even tho I own my music but it is time for us to start %100 owning our craft. Time for us to start pushing new agenda instead of the same with us killing our own when we got a bigger problem ‼️
I feel you, Def Jam ain’t tryin a pay @LilTunechi his fee so I guess the perfect remix aint coming out…. owe a few of my folks they money honestly. https://t.co/Syrpnj56zr
Kanye West is not the first artist to take issue with how major record labels are run and how those companies are often perceived as taking advantage of the music creators. For decades, artists from all genres have been addressing the predatory behavior and the devaluing of creativity often associated with the music business.
Legends like Michael Jackson, Prince, Johnny Cash, and Tom Petty had disputes with their labels. One of the central themes of biographical movies and television series such as CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story, Straight Outta Compton, and The New Edition Story is how uninformed, aspiring artists can sign deals that end up costing them millions of dollars.
A Tribe Called Quest’s Q-Tip famously rapped on 1991’s “Check the Rhime” single: “Industry rule number four-thousand-and-eighty; record company people are shady.” Jay-Z endorsed Q-Tip’s warning in 2001 with the Kanye West-produced “Izzo (H.O.V.A.)” bar: “Industry’s shady, it needs to be taken over.”
(AllHipHop News) While COVID-19 has disrupted live industry events, Jägermeister is launching a digital platform for emerging music creatives to showcase their talent. The Germany-based liquor company presents “Meister Class” sessions.
Jägermeister partnered with Universal Music Group and Brands to provide access to talented individuals on the UMG roster. The program will give select participants the chance to work with 10 Summers Records founder Mustard, Interscope Records artist Smino, and Dreamville Records duo EarthGang.
The first part of “Meister Class” centers around Smino and EarthGang choosing people to collaborate with them on individual new tracks. Following the release of the collaborations, Grammy Award-winning producer Mustard will serve as the “Meister” by mentoring the winning artists on their own original music that will be released in December.
“2020 has been a tough year; however, there are still opportunities, like what Jägermeister’s ‘Meister Class’ sessions are offering, for emerging and unknown artists to have their music heard,” said Mustard. “If you’re serious about getting in the music business check out this program and submit your work!”
Once the collaborative tracks with Smino and EarthGang are announced, “Meister Class” hopefuls can go to Meisterclass.com to submit their music. Recordings and performance videos are all open for consideration.
The “Meister Class” sessions are part of Jägermeister’s Save The Night initiative which serves to give a voice to up-and-coming artists and provide them with the chance to make industry relationships. New York’s CONVICTS creative studio was tapped to capture the “Meister Class” sessions and document the stories of participating artists in a series of original short films.
“At Jägermeister, music is at the core of who we are,” says Cliff Rigano, Director of Culture, Lifestyle & Event Marketing at Mast – Jägermeister US. “We felt that it was imperative to continue to create opportunities to foster the creativity and passion that is still flourishing even during these trying times.”
Rigano continues, “Music is what keeps us all together, even while we’re all physically apart. We’re absolutely thrilled to see this program come to life and look forward to engaging with all of the participating talent.”
(AllHipHop News) Top Dawg Entertainment singer-songwriter SZA and Insecure creator Issa Rae recently connected for a remote discussion. The two entertainers took part in Billboard‘s “Quizzed” series.
This episode featured Rae asking SZA questions about Insecure. They also discussed other topics like drinking alcohol vs smoking weed and cheating on a “Lawrence type guy” which refers to Jay Ellis’s character on the HBO show.
At one point, SZA spoke about facing the wrath of the Internet. Many celebrities have experienced being “canceled” by social media users for specific comments or actions their detractors viewed as problematic.
“My manager’s a Pisces. He be hurting my feelings. He don’t care,” conveyed SZA. “I be like, ‘I’m getting dragged on the internet. I think I’m going to lose it.’ He’ll be like, ‘That’s life.’ Or he’ll be like, ‘Put your phone away.'”
Rae responded, “That’s why I don’t take internet dragging seriously because any problem where you can be like, ‘Oh, I hate this… [pushes a button on a tablet]. Oh, it’s over.’ It’s not a real problem if you can just log out. It’s literally not real.”
SZA then referenced a moment from her life. The Ctrl album creator said, “You don’t be paranoid that real people in the street know what happened on the internet and they be thinking that when you meet them? I was going through a deep internet dragging, and I went to Starbucks. I’m like, ‘I just know she’s thinking about that sh*t.'”
(AllHipHop News) Kanye West spent the last week presenting an epic tweetstorm. His Twitter account is filled with posts about his Hip Hop peers, the NBA, record labels, the Grammy Awards, and the music industry in general.
Apparently, one of West’s tweets violated Twitter’s rules. CNN reporter Oliver Darcy explained that the 43-year-old rapper/fashion designer is currently unable to access his account.
“Twitter is requiring @kanyewest to remove a tweet sharing private info about @RandallLane (which Twitter has hidden from public view for now) to regain access to his account. Until then, he cannot tweet,” wrote Darcy.
He added, “Also, FWIW, this is how Twitter always enforces its rules. The company hides tweets that break its rules from public view, and locks the account until the owner logs on and removes the tweet.”
Also, FWIW, this is how Twitter always enforces its rules. The company hides tweets that break its rules from public view, and locks the account until the owner logs on and removes the tweet.
West is accused of sharing the personal contact information of Forbes Chief Content Officer Randall Lane to his 31 million followers in a since-deleted tweet. He also referred to Lane as a white supremacist.
Retired NBA player Rick Fox confirmed West is locked out of his Twitter account. The former Los Angeles Laker tweeted, “My friend @kanyewest wants you all to know that he was kicked off of @Twitter for 12 hours.”
West’s most recent tweet was posted on September 16 at 1:39 pm. That tweet read, “90% of the record contracts on the planet are still on a royalty A standard record deal is a trap to NEVER have you recoup, and there’s all these hidden costs like the ‘distribution fees’ many labels put in their contracts to make even more money off our work without even trying.”
(AllHipHop News) Kanye West defended Michael Jackson, Bill Cosby, and R. Kelly in a Twitter tirade that complained black celebrities receive unfair treatment from “white media.”
Citing the disgraced trio as victims of the media, Kanye tweeted, before deleting, “Michael Jackson Bill Cosby aaaaand wait for it … R Kelly had documentaries made or were taken down by white media … there has never been a black media company that would take down a white celebrity.”
He went on to write, “People say it’s enough and I got my point across … the point isn’t across until we cross the point,” and, “We used to diss Michael Jackson the media made us call him crazy … then they killed him.”
In his Twitter tirade, the star also claimed people “sat back and watched” when Nick Cannon was “canceled” over anti-semitic remarks that resulted in his firing by ViacomCBS chiefs.
Nick has subsequently apologized for his remarks.
At the start of his rant, Kanye claimed he was speaking out as his wealth meant he could not be silenced.
“I am the only person who can speak on this because I made multi billions outside of music no musicians make billions inside of music…I’m going to change this,” he wrote.
Kanye has been previously treated for bipolar disorder – with his wife, Kim Kardashian, asking for understanding due to the condition when he launched a bizarre presidential run in July.
(AllHipHop Music) Young Mills returns with his new single and music video, “Movin’,” The record features Bronx rapper, Al-Doe, and the pair tell their own stories about their experiences in their hoods.
Mills sticks true to his formula with the staccato bars about moving work over the Drill-infused beat. He speeds up the tempo once he gets to the chorus.
“I done moved so much blues they thought that I was crip // I ain’t nothin like you rap n*ggas RIP to Nip,” the Brooklyn emcee spit, paying homage to the late West Coast rapper.
In a previous interview, Young Mills mentioned that he wants to leave an imprint in the Hip Hop industry by bringing back authenticity to the game.
“I feel like a lot of artists in this day and age talk about a lot of things they’re not involved in or have NEVER done for that matter,” he said.
“What makes ME different from other artists ONLY being able to speak for myself is MY authenticity. A lot of my musical content I can say I have once done before,” Mills added.
If you’re trying to get a better idea of who the “Movin” rapper is, listen to his other records including “Don’t Talk About It,” and “Bag Boy” available on all streaming platforms.
(AllHipHop News) Kanye West is not the only rapper openly spitting hot fire about his faith.
Now, Dipset’s Capo Jim Jones is set to host his first faith-based mixtape with Holy Hip-Hopper Nucci Reyo, the King’s Kid.
The recently released project is called This Far by Faith, based on the popular African American hymnal standard written by Albert A. Goodson in 1965 entitled, “We’ve Come This Far by Faith.”
“We all are from church, some just lost their way. It’s time for us to come home,” Nucci told AllHipHop.com. “The project title, This Far By Faith, was named with the hopes that the music would spark the memories of artists, fans, and executives within the hip hop community that reminds them of who they are.
“We’ve Come This Far By Faith’ was one of my favorite songs that I use to sing in the choir and now I am using it as bait for those wandering in the dark and off the path,” Nucci Reyo.
Instead of seeing your granny in a white or your pastor waving the bible, the good news of the Most High is being pumped over a beat and narrated by Hip-Hop’s most unlikely emcee.
Jim Jones, who is not shy about his relationship to the streets, might be a questionable example of God’s grace — which is why Reyo tapped him to be the host.
This Far by Faith not only features the Roc Nation artist, whose real name is Joseph Guillermo Jones II, but also features music produced by The Heatmakerz and a guest appearance from Eric Roberson.
The rapper states on the album, “Faith in God will determine your fate, hold each other up because they have been holding us down too long.”
