(AllHipHop News) The Grammy Award-nominated Post Malone doesn’t consider himself a Hip-Hop artist. We claim him because that is what we do as a community, but for him, he transcends being a rapper. He is an artist — a pop star even — molded by the diverse culture that birthed him.
Thusly, his upcoming performance of Nirvana on his official YouTube channel will allow him to live out a childhood fantasy.
On Friday, April 24th at 3 pm PT/ 6 pm ET, he will rock out-loud singing songs like “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” “ Lithium,” and “Heart-Shaped Box” in his living rooms for his fans to enjoy.
People that tune in will be flies on the wall as he gets his entire live, but also raise money for The United Nations Foundation’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for The World Health Organization (WHO) in support of COVID-19 relief efforts.
Fans will be able to make donations to the UN Foundation in real-time during the live-stream event by using the “DONATE” button on the top right-hand side of the screen. Google.org will be matching all donations at a 2:1 rate, up to $5M, with all proceeds going to the UN Foundation.
Led by Kurt Cobain, Nirvana was a pivotal rock band in the 90s that led the grunge movement.
In a lot of ways, it mirrored the rise of the West Coast rap scene; heralding sex, drugs, and music~ Post might not want to be a rapper, but that rapper energy (though he would say is not honest) he just can’t escape.
(AllHipHop News) Cash Money’s Bryan “Birdman” Williams has a heart made out of platinum.
The Big Tymer has made one of the most thoughtful gestures that someone could make during these tough times. He has offered to pay the rent for some folk hit hard by the devasting coronavirus pandemic.
So many people have lost their jobs over the last two months, and if you consider how deadly COVID-19 has been in New Orleans — the impact will be felt for years as children are left parentless, people will have irreconcilable injuries from being sick and hundreds face homelessness.
Yet Birdman ain’t just gonna sit in his plush mansion with solid gold gates and bedazzling jeweled walkways and have pity on the poor and wretched. He instead cracked open his safe and will pay the rent for the entire month of May for those who reside in the neighborhood he grew up in.
In an Instagram, featuring he and his brother, Slim, Williams captioned:
“I would like 2 offer to pay everybody rent for month of May (for those who in need) in residents area of UPTOWN New Orleans where I was born and raised at from mac melph calio and ST Thomas housing also from 3rd ward to 17th ward.”
He further thanked those supporting him in this quest:
“I would like HANO to support us on accomplishin this and @q93fm I also spoke with @theuptownangela to help me put this togather I would like our mayor @mayorcantrell help support this cause also wanna thank all hospital on front line Risking they life to save lives I wanna thanks everybody that wrk with tha Gladys and Johnny foundation…”
The 3rd Ward is one of the most destitute areas in the country. Salute to you Birdman for helping the town that raised you.
(AllHipHop News) Last October, Grammy-nominated emcee Olubowale “Wale” Akintimehin dropped his sixth studio album Wow… That’s Crazy. The song “Sue Me” featuring Kelly Price served as the opening track of the Warner Records-released LP.
Wale has now let loose the “Sue Me” short film directed by Kerby Jean-Raymond. Oscar-nominated actor Lucas Hedges (Manchester By The Sea) stars as the protagonist in the video which addresses some of the same themes as the 1995 movie White Man’s Burden.
Hedges’ character lives in an alternate reality where a White male has to experience the tropes and racial situations often associated with African-Americans. Wale and Jean-Raymond drew inspiration from the real-life situations of two Black men in Philadelphia being arrested for meeting in a Starbucks and incarcerated individuals dealing with the spread of the deadly COVID-19.
“What if you could walk through a day in the life of an average African-American young man? What would you see? What would you hear? What would you face?” asks Wale. “We wanted to redefine the whole narrative and allow everybody to step into these shoes.”
He continues, “ I’ve never been more proud of a video than what we did here. Kerby really brought this vision to life, and Reebok helped make it a reality. I hope it makes you think a little. While you’re thinking, stay safe, and stay home!”
The “Sue Me” short film arrived on April 22 at 2:02 pm ET. The specific date and time paid homage to the 202 area code of Wale’s hometown of Washington, DC.
Wow… That’s Crazy peaked at #7 on the Billboard 200 chart, giving Wale his fourth Top 10 album. The project also included contributions from Ari Lennox, Boogie, 6lack, Bryson Tiller, Jeremih, Meek Mill, Rick Ross, Lil Durk, Pink Sweats, Jacquees, and Megan Thee Stallion.

Jaywop has big dreams to make it in this rap game, and he’s got the music to show for it. The young Tacoma, Washington-bred MC moved to Phoenix at the age of 12, a place he attributes to making him the man he is today. His sound is reminiscent of a blend of Isaiah Rashad, Saba, and Buddy — all his favorite artists.
His sound is electric and eccentric, which will unveil itself as he releases more music. With his most recent single “Big Bad,” he proves that he can create real, authentic hip-hop, all in one.
AllHipHop caught up with Jaywop via FaceTime who sipping on a beer during quarantine in Phoenix, Arizona, soaking it all in before his move to Long Beach the following week.
AllHipHop: For those who don’t know, who is Jaywop?
Jaywop: That’s a very complex question because Jaywop is multiple people. It depends on what’s going on, honestly. It really depends on where I am. Overall what I’m exploring with my music is that I’m somebody who likes to shine light on the average person. Because not everyone necessarily has that Beyonce or Hov quality. Some of us are junior varsity, on our way to varsity. That’s what I’m putting on for.
AllHipHop: Being from Washington, what was the household like growing up?
Jaywop: The household was very loud. There was a lot going. There were 4 or 5 different lanes or paths I could go, not all of them being good. It was really interesting being the youngest person in the household, get back and see everything that’s going on. Whether it’s good or bad, seeing some of it all happen at the same time. It was wild, that’s the best way to put it. [chuckles]
Jaywop: My pops did whatever he had to in terms of making sure we were okay, that we had everything we needed to. The area where my house was in the neighborhood was a central location for all my family and people we knew in the neighborhood. There were always people coming and going. I got to experience a lot of different people, a lot different vibes, a lot of different crazy s##t to be honest.
AllHipHop: You say Phoenix molded you into the man you were today, how so?
Jaywop: I moved here during that prime age where you’re really trying to define yourself. I moved here when I was 12. A lot of the stuff going on around me, it affected me. By the time I was 16, I started discovering people like Isaiah Rashad, Saba, etc. That’s where the switch completely slipped in. If it weren’t for what I was going through during that current time, me actually being here, then I wouldn’t have become the artist that I am.
AllHipHop: When did music become real for you?
Jaywop: Music became real in the year that I spent at University of Arizona. I realized I wasn’t like any of the people there. I realized it was a scam. Personally if you’re not going to be a lawyer or doctor, something life-changing and compelling to changing the future of what it is that you actually need certifications for — in this day in age, you don’t need it. People are showing they’re transcending everyday with simple stuff like high school education.
AllHipHop: Why the move to Long Beach?
Jaywop: I have a lot of friends who live in California. The advice I’d always get is try to be as close to LA as you can, without actually being in LA. Try to get some slightly cheaper rent.
AllHipHop: What’s the inspiration behind “Big Bad”?
Jaywop: The same thing that’s been inspiring a lot of music right now: keep pushing regardless of whatever’s going on. I’ve always wanted to be the best artist in the current place I’m in. At times, you’re getting the recognition of what you feel you deserve or what you want. It can do 2 things for you: it can make you super salty or it can motivate you. I’ve never been a salty person, so it pushed me. Okay if I got something that I believe in, y’all don’t eat it up, it’ll lead me to do the next thing. That’s the whole idea behind “Big Bad”: no matter what’s going on, I’m constantly pushing.
AllHipHop: 3 things you need in the studio?
Jaywop: I definitely need weed, I need beer, and good vibes. I don’t like to pack too many people into the studio. Just the people I keep around me, that’s it. I like to stay consistent as I am with the engineers that I work with.
AllHipHop: Who’s in your Top 5?
Jaywop: My current Top 5, it always has to be J. Cole. Saba. After Care for Me, he made me look at him way different. He’s in my personal Top 5 as of today. #3, I definitely have to put Tory Lanez in there right now because of his work ethic and his consistency. Kaytranada has definitely been in my Top 5, love Kaytra. Lastly, I’m listening to a lot of Buddy.
AllHipHop: What can we expect next?
Jaywop: A lot of crazy ass music. It’s not your typical sound, like what’s popular right now. The beat selection from people, it’s similar with everything that’s popular right now. You know what to expect, everybody has a certain sound that they’re comfortable with trying out. A lot of the stuff I’m making is super crazy with out-of-here potential, but it’s extremely different at the same time. You’ll hear with the next one! I’m going to be around.

(AllHipHop Rumors) French Montana has been kicking up quite a bit of dust lately. From my vantage point, it started out pretty positively with ending beef with Jim Jones. He also has seemingly ended his feud of Fofty as well. Suddenly, it gets negative again! First on the menu is Young Thug saying that French was laid out by both Meek Mill and Waka Flocka. Check this out:
I am admittedly not the man in these streets anymore. I cannot keep up with the foolishness. I have seen Meek on the heavy bag though! Waka doesn’t impress me as somebody that used to play games. French is pretty good in the streets too. Moving right along! Let me do some realtime research on this whole thing.
All this started because French made the mistake of saying he’s got most bangers than Kendrick Lamar. I am not sure what made him say some mess like that. It is a ridiculous assertion.
IF WE JUST TALKING ABOUT ANTHEMS, !! ME VS KENDRICK HIT FOR HIT ! I BELIEVE I CAN GO NECK TO NECK !! I BEEN MAKING HITS FOR A LONG TIME ! IT AINT MY FAULT I BELIEVE IN MYSELF. HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO ANSWER THAT QUESTION ? HOW MANY TIMES I GOTTA PROVE MYSELF BEFORE I GET MINE 🌊
Anyway, I am not sure what happened that would include Meek and Waka in all this. What is more interesting is why is Thugger caping so hard for K-Dot? I didn’t know they were that close!

If you recall, earlier this month, DojaCat’s social media run-in with some of NickiMinaj’s fans went viral. It all went down after Rolling Stone revealed their latest cover featuring Doja, Nicki and Megan Thee Stallion. The cover read, “female rappers shaping rap music.”
Dope.
Even Doja retweeted and wrote, “fire.” But it all took a turn for the worst as one of her fans argued that Doja should have been the focal point of the cover – not Nicki. Now, you know the Barbies couldn’t let that statement fly without defending their Queen.
Things turned negative real quick as the Barbz aimed at Doja’s fan. With no regard to the fine line between a friendly Hip Hop debate and straight hate, it got to the point where Doja had to step in to defend her fan from the onslaught of negativity.
“They’re literally scum, they mean nothing. Don’t explain yourself,” she Tweeted, as she urged her fan to pay them no mind.
As you can imagine, the story got flipped because who doesn’t love an all-out women-in-Hip-Hop beef? (Insert side-eye here) ‘
Now, weeks after all of that went down, Doja has finally spoken out: “This person was bullying him at this point and just saying just mean, horrible things. I’m standing up for this guy and then I’m just getting upset with everybody. And then I said, These people are idiots. They’re children they’re scum. Because they were, those five people were scum. They suck. They literally suck. They don’t even know who they are.”
Phew. Chileeee.
She wasn’t wrong, though. Even after Nicki Minaj fans tried to “cancel” her, she stood up for what she thought was right. And more importantly, she stood up for her fan. Stop coming for Doja Cat!
“They don’t even know I’m the biggest Nicki Minaj fan. So they’re stupid. They don’t even know me.”
*dropsmic*
Can we stop feeding into this fetish you guys have of female rappers beefing with each other now? It’s getting old.

(AllHipHop News) The Universal Hip Hop Museum and Mass Appeal have teamed up for the “Hip Hop Loves NY” benefit event which will stream live on YouTube on April 23 at 6-9 pm ET. The special simulcast will honor healthcare workers on the frontlines of the COVID-19 fight in New York.
“New York has become the epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Rocky Bucano, Executive Director of the Universal Hip Hop Museum. “It has shed light on the health and economic disparities in Black and Brown communities as African Americans and Latinos are dying at a disproportionately higher rate.”
Bucano adds, “This is a result of underlying health issues and major economic gaps in our city. The courage and the tenacity of the frontline healthcare workers serving in the most vulnerable populations is nothing short of heroic. We wanted to do something special to recognize their sacrifice and bring little levity during this historic health crisis. This is how Hip Hop says thank you.”
Ice-T, Kurtis Blow, Mike Epps, De La Soul, Naughty By Nature, Biz Markie, Dave East, Chuck D, Kid ‘n Play, Sugar Hill Gang, Big Daddy Kane, and more acts are scheduled to appear. Hip Hop legend Ralph Daniels of Video Music Box is set to host.
New York State Assemblyman Michael Blake, NYC Deputy Mayor Phillip Thompson, Bronx Borough President Rubén Díaz Jr, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, and NYC Public Advocate Jumanne Williams are also part of the lineup. Proceeds raised from “Hip Hop Loves NY” will be donated to SOMOS Community Care and The Bronx Community Relief Effort.
Assemblyman Blake offers, “The Bronx Community Relief Effort was created to help the people of The Bronx rise from this challenging time and what better way to get back on our feet than through Hip Hop to support our Healthcare Heroes who stand up for us every single day.”
He continues, “We know that The Bronx has Hip Hop Heroes, but, we also have Healthcare Heroes who need to be celebrated. From Montefiore to Lincoln Hospital, from St. Barnabas to Bronxcare, that one beat or perfect verse might give the energy to our Nurses, doctors, maintenance workers, clerical aides, hospital staff, patients and their families to press on for one more day.”
“Hip Hop Loves NY” is being amplified by the live streaming & video creation platform Socialive. The company’s founder/CEO, David Moricca, states, “One of the challenges of COVID-19 is how to stay connected without physically being connected. In trying times like these, that connection is more important than ever. That’s why we’re thrilled to partner with the Universal Hip Hop Museum and Mass Appeal to provide a complete enterprise that can distribute live streaming video to multiple social media platforms in real-time — and to use the power of video to celebrate and support our frontline workers.”
(AllHipHop News) Some social media followers of YoungBoy Never Broke Again are worried about the Baton Rouge-raised entertainer. His tweets over the last several days have caused understandable concern about his mental health.
On April 19, NBA YoungBoy tweeted “Suicide¿” with no further explanation. After uploading a promotional video for an upcoming release, he returned to Twitter on Tuesday to write, “After Friday I’ll never release a song/album again until I’m in a better situation #PROMISE.” It is not clear if the phrase “better situation” was connected to YoungBoy’s personal well being or business-related conditions.
YoungBoy’s April has been filled with a lot of drama. He feuded with incarcerated rapper Kodak Black. Their conflict lit up the internet following Kodak calling out his former collaborator for allegedly cooperating with the police during the assault investigation into YoungBoy’s girlfriend Iyanna “Ya Ya” Mayweather. However, YoungBoy denied helping law enforcement.
There are now rumors circulating online that Gucci Mane has inserted himself into the NBA YoungBoy versus Kodak Black beef. Gucci recently posted a photo of himself and Kodak with a caption that read, “Free Kodak and f*ck the !” There was a debate on whether the rat emoji in Gucci Mane’s now-deleted IG post was referring to YoungBoy or confirmed federal government cooperating witnessTekashi 6ix9ine.
(AllHipHop News) While many are aware that the coronavirus can kill you by accelerating various respiratory diseases in the body, few people know that it can cause life-threatening anxiety.
But rapper Lil Xan knows.
According to TMZ, Lil Xan (whose name is xanxiety on Instagram) was hospitalized because he had what is being called a pandemic-induced panic attack.
Reports say that the rapper’s mother noticed that he was hallucinating and called the paramedics. Apparently, the hallucinations came from his exaggerated stress level he had from being in the house.
Now before you call foul on the call, please note that there is no word if the rapper relapsed into taking recreational drugs.
At the end of last year, he told fans that he was trying to quit taking the popular drug Xanax, but going cold turkey made him have seizures.
So let’s just believe the best for him and look to science.
According to The Department of Health for the Government of Western Australia, “Intense negative emotions such as stress or grief can make people particularly vulnerable to hallucinations … It is believed that the mental processes which operate during hallucinations include memories and images which the brain has difficulty controlling. The way that individuals react to their hallucinations also impacts on how they feel about them.”
He took to social media once he got out of the hospital to reflect over is life:
“Looking back at the last couple years of my life an it’s been a crazy ride, can’t wait for things to get back to normal tho so I can get back to work!love you guys and hope you all are safe, healthy and happy ❤️❤️”
Whatever it was that landed you in the hospital brother, whether it is coronavirus related, stress-related, or narcotic related, we wish you nothing but joy and happy health.
(AllHipHop News) Georgia governor Brian Kemp is facing significant backlash for his unexpected decision to reopen nail salons, barbershops, massage therapists, bowling alleys, and gyms on Friday. According to the GA Department of Public Health, the state has more than 20,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and over 800 coronavirus-related deaths.
The national practice of social distancing has helped “flatten the curve” of new COVID-19 cases. However, Kemp admitted the reopening of his state’s economy would lead to more people getting sick. The Republican politician stated, “When we have more people moving around, we’re probably going to see our cases continue to go up, but we’re a lot better prepared for that now than we were over a month ago.”
Atlanta mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, doctors, business leaders, celebrities, and even other Republicans are pushing back against the idea that Georgia citizens should be visiting non-essential shops during the current coronavirus crisis. Part-time Atlanta resident Cardi B is among the critics that are warning Georgia is not ready to end stay-at-home restrictions.
The “Bodak Yellow” superstar commented on a Baller Alert post about Kemp’s COVID-19 press conference on Monday. In the Instagram statement, Cardi B called out America’s healthcare system and capitalistic economy for prioritizing profits over people.
She wrote:
I just want to let people [know] DONT GO AROUND YOUR PARENTS OR GRANDPARENTS! Once there sick and in the hospital wit covid you won’t be able to see how and what they treating them with. They will literally have them die slow! They are not nurturing covid patience with the proper foods, tea to boost their immune. STRAIGHT MEDICATION! Your parents, grandparents or YOU will most likely pass by yourself in a cold hospital with no physical contact with your love ones. HEALTH OVER CAPITALISM!
Cardi B’s immediate family recently experienced losing someone to coronavirus. Her husband, Offset, revealed that his uncle passed away from complications of COVID-19. The Migos member tweeted on April 19, “Rip uncle Jerry!!!!! Keep your mask on b/c you do not want to [lose] your family or friends thinking it’s a joke!!!”
As of press time, the number of COVID-19 deaths in the United States has surpassed 45,000 with about 819,000 confirmed cases and 45,000 recoveries from the disease. The worldwide death total is now at approximately 178,000 with 2.5 million global cases and 701,000 recoveries.
Apple Music’s Zane Lowe recently Facetimed with Doja for a conversation about what she has been up to during the COVID-19 quarantine. They also chatted about the controversial back-and-forth on Twitter which started because of a fan-made Rolling Stone cover featuring Doja Cat, Nicki Minaj, and Megan Thee Stallion.
Oh, thank you God, Zane. Thank you. Okay, so there’s someone who’s verified on Twitter and they’re not even a stan account or anything. They’re just some random guy who was just, he saw this art that someone drew of me, Nicki and Meg, in that order. So Nicki was in the middle and it was a Rolling Stone cover, but Nicki was in the middle, rightfully so. Meg was on the right and I was on the left. This guy commented, “I’d like to see Doja in the middle.” And then someone commented back to him, “Gosh, men. Men these days, they’re so messy. They just want problems all the time.” And I saw that comment and I was like, “God, you have to bring like someone’s gender into stuff and that’s what makes you look stupid.” So then after a while, this guy kept on replying, kept on replying, replying to this person, saying the same thing over and over again, reiterating saying, “I just want to see her in the middle. I just want to see her in the middle.” And this person was bullying him at this point and just saying just mean, horrible things. So then I come in and I say, “Dude, stop responding to these people. They’re scum. They’re so awful. Stop talking to them. They have nothing good to say to you or anybody else.” So anyway, I’m standing up for this guy and then I’m just getting upset with everybody. And then I said, “These people are idiots. They’re children, they’re scum.” Because they were, those five people are scum. They suck. They literally suck. They don’t even know who they are. And basically, so then people started spinning it, of course, because that’s the internet. They start spinning it that I’m talking about every single person who likes Nicki Minaj when they don’t even know I’m the biggest Nicki Minaj fan. So they’re stupid. They don’t even know me. So they’re saying things that they have no idea what they’re talking about. But that’s basically how that panned out.
(AllHipHop News) While discussing possible Instagram Live opponents following his win over Tory Lanez, French Montana told Complex,“Kendrick Lamar got albums. He got masterpieces. But if you were to put us on the festival stage I would outshine him because I have more hits than Kendrick Lamar.”
Music fans began blasting the Bronx rapper for claiming he had more hits than K. Dot. French Montana became a top trending topic on Twitter overnight. The “That’s A Fact” rhymer then tried to further explain what he meant in his comments about the TDE emcee.
Montana tweeted:
IF WE JUST TALKING ABOUT ANTHEMS, !! ME VS KENDRICK HIT FOR HIT ! I BELIEVE I CAN GO NECK TO NECK !! I BEEN MAKING HITS FOR A LONG TIME ! IT AINT MY FAULT I BELIEVE IN MYSELF. HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO ANSWER THAT QUESTION ? There are different ways to measure whether a song is a “hit” record. A track can be big on radio, on streaming platforms, on YouTube, on iTunes, or at clubs. Smashes tend to dominate each of those sites which leads to sustained success on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart.
For the record, Kendrick Lamar has two #1 songs, eight Top 10 songs, and forty-eight Top 100 songs. French Montana’s catalog includes zero #1 songs, two Top 10 songs, and seventeen Top 100 songs. However, both performers have Hip Hop cult classics that did not make it onto the chart.

Unfortunately, Judge Donnelly believes the singer is still just too dangerous to release from MCC because of the risk he poses to the witnesses in his racketeering case, where he is facing charges in three states for running a sex enterprise exploiting teenaged girls.
Judge Donnelly shot down R. Kelly’s argument that he was not a flight risk due to his celebrity status and because he was broke, due to a huge multi-million dollar back tax bill.
“Even aside from the risk of flight, the risk that the defendant would try to obstruct justice or intimidate prospective witnesses has not dissipated, and poses a danger to the community,” Judge Ann M. Donnelly said.
The singer was accused of using proxies to communicate with third parties, including sending off threatening letters and using a prison staff member’s telephone.
R. Kelly’s lawyers said the 53-year-old singer had asked to be quarantined under serious constraints.
He requested to stay in a building within the eyesight of prison officials while agreeing to strict restraints on his usage of the internet or social media.
“Given the pandemic, where the judicial system’s oversight capabilities are curtailed, these measures simply are not viable—they cannot ensure
that a defendant with a history, incentive and opportunity to interfere with potential witnesses will not do so. Accordingly, the defendant’s motion for release is denied,” Judge Donnelly ruled.
