With Kendrick Lamar steadily approaching RIAA Platinum status on his album, good kid, m.A.A.d city, it appears as if Kendrick can do no wrong.  Kendrick performed Saturday Night Live, he played principal for a day in Rhode Island, he’s selling out show after show and all the while, he continues to build the buzz for his Black Hippy/TDE family.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Did The Government Try To Use Jay-Z To Get To Assata Shakur?

Oh…this is not a good rumor for Obama. But the word on the street is that the US Gov. attempted to get at Jigga Man to get to Pac’s step auntie! Remember, last month, the cops in NJ were foaming at the mouth over Assata, labeling her a terrorist like she was the female Bin Laden. Meanwhile, we still neglect that George Bush killed innocents on the premise that…nahhhhh…y’all don’t want me to get to preaching, do you!?! Anyway, America has a hard-on for Assata as she lives peacefully in Cuba.

Check out this intel from FTP Movement:

Increasingly it is becoming clear that the Obama administration in preparation for its change in its Latin American policy has been using Hip-Hop millionaires as pawns to cover some of its most unsavory actions. Only a few astute old activists recognized early that Obama was using Pop-culture like Richard Nixon used Ping Pong diplomacy in opening up China to a new US diplomacy.

The recent visit of Millionaire Rap Mogul Jay-Z and his wife Beyoncé to Cuba served as a cover for unofficial back-door communications to the Cuban government conveying the Obama’s intentions to modify or lift the four decade old illegal embargo/blockade of Cuba and that the presence of former Black Panther, and Black Liberation Army member Assata Shakur could hinder or derail this diplomacy. Jay-Z’s delegation included a State-Department “reliable” personage who transmitted the Obama’s administration’s position.  Once the Republican/Right got wind of this overture they screamed bloody murder, but could do little about it as lifting the Cuban Blockade is now crucial to the US reasserting dominance in a post Castro-Chavez Latin America as the geo-economic center for Latin American nations. So Assata is a pawn in the chess game of US imperial diplomacy.

By the way, Minister Farrakhan recently commented on Jay-Z in Cuba and dropped some science on the issue.

This is a serious matter!

Trapped in Court: Gucci Mane Pleads Not Guilty to Aggravated Assault with Champagne Bottle

(AllHipHop News)  In what is proving to be an ongoing saga of violent incidents, court appearances, arrests and jail stints, Gucci Mane, born Radric Davis, pleaded not guilty to aggravated assault in an Atlanta Fulton County courthouse today (May 13).

The Brick Squad 1017 CEO was arrested on April 9th in connection with the assault of a U.S. marine although the rapper posted $75,000 bond and was released shortly thereafter.

Gucci’s freedom was short-lived though as just days later he would be re-arrested on April 13 for a probation violation.

While the probation violation cost Gucci nearly three weeks in jail and the likely loss of business while incarcerated, Gucci has been keeping a low profile since posting bond.

“He’s out on bond, just going about his life,” Gucci’s lawyer Drew Findling told a judge on Monday.

Prosecutors alleged that Gucci struck the soldier in the head with a champagne bottle causing deep cuts on the top of the man’s head, requiring stitches.

Despite the soldier’s claims, Gucci’s lawyer says no evidence exists against his client other than the alleged victim’s report.

The arrests made in the following incidents mark over a dozen arrests in Gucci’s storied career, which is marked by beating a 2005 murder charge that was eventually dropped.

Gucci’s newest mixtape, Trap House 3, hits the net next week.

EXCLUSIVE: Drumma Boy Scores Scary Movies; Talks Memphis Hip-Hop and Recalls Meeting Yo Gotti

(AllHipHop News) When it comes to Memphis and Hip-Hop music, there have been a host of artists from the city to have commercial success.  From Three Six Mafia with Juicy J and DJ Paul, to 8 Ball & MJG, to Project Pat, to the newly signed Yo Gotti, Memphis has a rich tradition of Southern Hip-Hop that continues on today.

Nevertheless, you can’t talk about Memphis Hip-Hop without mentioning the classically trained and multi-platinum producer Drumma Boy, born Christopher James Gholson, who once attended the University of Memphis as a Music Business Major.

Drumma called in to the site yesterday (May 10) from Memphis where he has been enjoying the Memphis Grizzlies’ playoff run and where just a few days ago, Drumma boy was joined by Lil Wayne and Yo Gotti at the Grizzlies’ playoff game.

“I’m out here for these Grizz! Memphis Grizzlies are in the playoffs so we doing all our work out here man.  Theres a lot of positive energy out here in the city so its good to see the city in this spirit. If there’s one thing about me, it’s that I put on for my city man. Like Diddy in New York, its Drumma in Memphis,” Drumma Boy said.

Fresh off the success of sound scoring scary movies, Drumma spoke about the experience of writing music for movies for the horror flicks.

“I’m doing a lot of movie sound scores. I did a movie called ‘Holla II,’ I’m doing ‘Blood First.’ I’m doing a lot of different things that I haven’t done before. I’ve been on the mic hosting, DJing and trying to take things to that next level.” Drumma Boy told AllHipHop.com. “I scored the scary movie in 14 days, and it was just a matter of time frame, understanding your budget, your access to musicians etcetera.  Or how about instead of hiring all these people I can just play this and write this out myself. Then just being effective as far as matching the music to the emotion of the film, the music has to carry you through the moments and the suspense by changing the key at key moments. Like you gonna know when someone is going to get robbed or killed or, like oh they bout to have sex.  It’s about 10 or 11 beats in there and my music is placed as well, so it’s a blessing.”

Currently Drumma Boy is gearing up for the release of Chris Brown’s upcoming album and he is busy on several other projects as well.

“Yea I got a lot of different tapes I’m working on. I’m working on ‘Strictly for the Strippers,’ I’m working ‘Clash of the Titans’ with DJ Paul. I’m working on ‘Welcome to My City Part 3,’ its going to come out with a DVD documentary as well as part 3 of the trilogy.  I’m working on Chris Brown’s project, I’m working on Jeezy, 2 Chainz, Rick Ross, the same stuff like that,” Drumma boy explained to AllHipHop.com.

Beyond his own personal music, Drumma Boy shed light on how he developed a friendship and working relationship with Epic Record’s Yo Gotti, as the two began working together early on in their careers on Memphis Hip-Hop scene.

“Man you know we pretty much came up together. When I moved out to Cordova, Tennessee, Gotti was one of the first artist that I was hearing about in his hood. I would be  selling tapes in the mall and street cats was talking about his music and I ended up getting his number, I rolled through the hood and I bumped into him and played him some beats,” Drumma Boy explained to AllHipHop.com.  “He told me he wanted this one and that one, I told him how much and he pulled the money out of his pocket and paid me on the spot. Some people try to just hear the beats for entertainment or something and they aren’t about that business. He’s a dude that’s about his business if he respects what you do and he was just about his business. Regardless of if you come from the trap or if you come from the court playing ball, as long as you understand the game, and that’s one things cats don’t do.  Gotti understands the game.”

Aside from the trap friendly and gangsta style Southern Hip-Hop that Drumma has been known to make, Drumma explained that there is another side to Memphis – a budding arts and entertainment scene that welcomes skateboarding, art, dance and other forms of expression like trap/EDM DJs.

“Theres a whole another world to Memphis, you see the skateboarding. You see Lil’ Wayne dipped in here, yesterday he was at the game, and we were hollerin’ at him, asking him if there were skate parks out here and we were just putting him on points of the city that just aren’t really known,” Drumma Boy told AllHipHop.

“There’s different parts of the city that aren’t really known and people mostly think its like ‘First 48,’ and the negative side, the hard violence side. It’s close to murder capital, but.thats one thing the Grizzlies, me and Yo Gotti and so many of the different rappers that’s from the city are doing to better the city. We’re positively giving back and showing a different side city,” he said.

“There’s player style events with artistic paintings being crafted during parties, and it’s just a whole eclectic side that people don’t know about. I think the whole world has always known about our music talents, but there’s a whole other side like choreographers, videographers, the arts and crafts world, on the reality show side of things, the film side of things too.  Judge Mathis is doing a reality TV show on BET. The dance side is the biggest side of things that people don’t know about,’Memphis jookin.’  So the city is really growing and there’s a lot of things that are coming into perspective,” Drumma concluded.

Hip-Hop Rumors: The Jay-Z Picture Everybody Is Talking About!

They say everybody has a twin. Well, Jay-Z has had a few in his day. But it looks like this one is particularly special, because its old NYC.

Original gangster? Some have noted a resemblance to a certain hip-hop mogul (right) in the 1939 photo on the left.

Here is what the NY Times said about this time warp image.

Yes, the New York Public Library swears, the old photo of the guy who looks scarily like Jay-Z really is an unretouched, un-Photoshopped image from 1939. “We’re 100 percent certain it’s legitimate,” Adenike Olanrewaju, a library spokeswoman, said on Friday. Here’s the original:

Sid Grossman, courtesy New York Public Library “Harlem Loiterers,” 1939.

The photo, the library explains on its Tumblr blog, is “Harlem Loiterers” by the street photographer Sid Grossman (no further details are known about it, unfortunately), and it was stumbled across recently by a curator at the library’s Schomburg Center for Research In Black Culture.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Did Future Leave Or Get Dropped From Lil Wayne's Tour?

There has been a bit of talk about Future being dropped from the Lil Wayne tour. For the record, Lil Wayne has the “Most Wanted” tour on the way and it includes T.I., Weezy and then there was Future. But, for some reason, Future just wasn’t on it any more. There have been lots of speculation. Some have said that there may be some issues in Future’s business home. Others say that Wayne dropped him for some reason or another….maybe beef. Other have speculated that Ciara is somehow nefariously linked to Future’s sudden departure from the tour.

Any luck? Let me know at ki*********@***il.com

Treach Speaks On New Show "Southside", Calls It "Mix between Sopranos and The Wire"

(AllHipHop News) New York City in the 80’s will soon return in the upcoming series South Side, written, directed and created by Taheim Bryan. The series, based on true events, centers around the lucrative drug trade in South Side Jamaica, Queens in the 80’s and the Drug Enforcement unit’s attempt at abolishing it.

The cast includes rappers turned thespians Treach and Method Man with the former likening the new series to two of televisions greatest shows of all time in an interview with AllHipHop:

“It’s like the Supreme Team in the 80’s. It’s a series. It’s not just a film or a short. It’s a series they are doing that is called called South Side. Taheim called me up to be one of the top knotch drug dealers in the South side. It’s a mix between Sopranos and The Wire but it’s in 80s and it’s Hip Hop. It’s Kangols, and FILA suits and gazelles.”

The series’ centerpiece is a drug organization which accumulated over $200,000 in drug sales per day and its subsequent rise and fall. However, Bryan designed the series to provide more than a commentary on the drug trade in the 80’s:

South Side series is special for Queens because South Side Jamaica is a place every city has, but for us we call it home. For years Queens was always looked at as an understatement, while Brooklyn was considered as the voice of NY. Though in all actually Queens is and has always been a house hold name that birthed many influential people from different walks of life, whether entertaining or the underground world. Like Russell Simmons, Run DMC, LL, Nas, Mobb Deep, Juice Crew, Large Professor, Tennis great John Mcenroe, Former 1st lady Nancy Reagan, Donald Trump, Tribe called Quest, the list can go on and on. So stay tuned for the untold story in South Side.”

There is no release date for the series.

5 & Done: B. Martin

Born Brendan Martin, and dubbed by Hot 97 as “The best new Hip-Hop artist in New York ,”  to his music fans he goes by B. Martin. Recently B. Martin released his first album on Itunes called Ladies & Gentleman this pass Tuesday. We caught up with B. Martin to talk music and his hot  single “I Want It All” featuring Kendrick Lamar and Juicy J.

AllHipHop.com: Why did you start rapping?

B. Martin:  I’ve always loved music, I’ve always loved Hip-Hop.  But it wasn’t until high school that I started playing around with writing.  Then one day, this kid tried to diss me.  So I went home, wrote a diss rap on him, and took him down.  After that, I continued writing.  I realized how much I love the process of creation and having control over what I deliver.

AllHipHop.com: What inspires you ?

B. Martin:. I’m inspired by great music as well as my family and friends. Music is my love & passion, it pushes me to become more creative and try new things musically.

AllHipHop.com: If you could describe your music as a superhero or villain who would it be like?

B. Martin:  I would say i’m closest to Batman. The way he transforms from a quiet reserved American into a crime fighting animal could be compared to my shift from being super calm off stage to letting it all go when the spotlight hits.

AllHipHop.com: What are you working on currently?

B. Martin: I’m currently working on songs that range from telling my childhood stories to bangers that will have the clubs getting HYPE. A really diverse portfolio of melodic music that’s true to my roots. It will probably turn into a mixtape or an album in the near future. My main focus is my newest single – “I Want It All” with Kendrick Lamar & Juicy J. We are currently in the process of shooting the music video.

AllHipHop.com: Where do you see your self in 5 years?

B. Martin: I just want to keep progressing. In five years I see myself in the studio still trying to perfect a song, sound, or lyric. I want to make sure my music relates, inspires people throughout the world. That’s my goal now, and will be five or fifty years from now.
