Fans Flock To Tupac Flick “All Eyez On Me” Despite Criticism

(AllHipHop News) Actress Jada Pinkett Smith has attacked the filmmakers behind new Tupac Shakur biopic “All Eyez on Me” for the way they have depicted her relationship with the late rapper.

The film, starring Demetrius Shipp, Jr. and Kat Graham as Tupac and Jada, was released on Friday (June 16) – what would have been the rapper’s 46th birthday – and though the critics are raving, “The Matrix Reloaded” star is far from impressed.

In a series of tweets sent out on Friday, she wrote: “Forgive me… my relationship to Pac is too precious to me for the scenes in All Eyez On Me to stand as truth.”

Jada then detailed the inaccuracies in the movie, stating: “Pac never read me that poem. I didn’t know that poem existed until it was printed in his book… Pac never said goodbye to me before leaving for LA. He had to leave abruptly and it wasn’t to pursue his career.”

“I’ve never been to any of Pac’s shows by his request,” she added. “We never had an argument backstage.”

And Jada admits the “reimagining of my relationship to Pac” has been “deeply hurtful.”

However, the actress, who became one of Shakur’s closest friends when they attended Baltimore’s School of Arts in Maryland together, insists she still thinks the stars of the new biopic deserve credit for their performances, adding: “Thank you for bringing so much heart and spirit to your roles. You both did a beautiful job with what you were given. Thank you both.”

Jada ended her social media rant by wishing her late friend a happy birthday, adding, “you are cradled in my heart for eternity. I love you.”

In an interview with TMZ.com, “All Eyez On Me” producer LT Hutton responded to Jada’s comments and said he was very disappointed, since she was “all good” with the film prior to its release.

Either way, fans seem to be taking to the movie.

According to early estimates, “All Eyez On Me” will come take in over $33 million and will land at #3, behind “Wonder Woman” and “Cars,” which is expected to top the box office on Monday, with earnings of around $51 million.

Harlem Arts Festival Launches With VIP Party, Events With J.Period And Prodigy

(AllHipHop News) The Harlem Arts festival is back and the VIP party kicks everything off on Friday June 23 with DJ J.Period.

(Click here to buy tickets for the opening night festivities.)

The opening event promises to be a fun-filled night with an open bar, food and other activities.

Next week, the opening night of the 2017 Harlem Arts Festival, along with VIP Opening Night Party sponsor  Smirnoff, will set off the entire festival which features Prodigy of Mobb Deep.

Neal Ludevig told AllHipHop that the importance of the event is much larger than the celebrities.

“We believe art is a right. Art should be affordable, and everyone, no matter where you live, what your economic or social class is, should have access. It’s proven that art and music has an immensely positive impact, especially in historically underserved communities,” Ludevig said. “Harlem Arts Festival is a stage by which today’s up and coming artists can be discovered. These are people who are grinding, who have an innate need to create, to write, to sing, to dance. Imagine strolling into the Cotton Club in 1933 and stumbling on a 16 year old Lena Horne, seeing her before she became a household name. That’s what we imagine HAF becoming: the place to go to discover the next big artist to rise out of Harlem’s creative class.”

HAF’s headliner is Maurice Brown and Marc Cary’s “Short Circuit”,  a performance that features Prodigy from Mobb Deep. Additionally, there are a bevy of special guests and dancers featured. The members of the band include artists that work with Talib Kweli and DJ Premier.

The Harlem Arts Festival takes place at Marcus Garvey Park June 23 – 25 and promotes “the next big thing” to come from uptown. HAF offers an amazing lineup of over 30 artists and is free to the public. If you purchase a VIP ticket for Festival Day 1 and Day 2, you get:
  • HAF Tote Bag
  • HAF T-Shirt

Chris Brown Heading To “Batterer Intervention” Program

(AllHipHop News) Chris Brown has to spend a year learning how to be a better boyfriend as part of a batterer intervention program.

A judge awarded the singer’s ex, Karrueche Tran, a five-year restraining order against him on Thursday (June 15) after she appeared in court and alleged Brown physically and emotionally abused her throughout their romance – and now he must attend classes to curb his temper, according to TMZ.

The 52-week course is intended to educate Brown on preventing domestic violence.

It’s not the first time Brown has had to attend mandated counselling – he attended classes after he pleaded guilty to assaulting his ex Rihanna in 2009.

He also went to anger management classes after he violated his probation.

Jay Z Donates Money On Father’s Day To Bail Out Jailed Men

(AllHipHop News) Jay Z may be expecting twins any moment now as his wife Beyonce prepares to give birth, but the rap star has taken out some time to launch a new initiative taking on the criminal justice system.

To celebrate the Father’s Day holiday Jay Z linked up with Time magazine, to write an opt-ed piece detailing his plans expose the “exploitative bail industry.”

Jay Z said he became acutely aware of the problem as he did research for his documentary “Time: The Kalief Browder Story.”

Browder was charged with a petty crime, but because his family couldn’t raise bail, he languished on Rikers Island in solitary confinement as a teenager for three years, and eventually committed suicide after his release, due to the ordeal.

“If you’re from neighborhoods like the Brooklyn one I grew up in, if you’re unable to afford a private attorney, then you can be disappeared into our jail system simply because you can’t afford bail,” Jay Z wrote.

According to stats offered by Jay in the piece, over 400,000 people in the United States are sitting in prisons on any given day. And these are citizens who have been “charged” with a crime, but cannot afford to “buy their freedom.”

“When black and brown people are over-policed and arrested and accused of crimes at higher rates than others, and then forced to pay for their freedom before they ever see trial, big bail companies prosper.”

Jay Z said that this Father’s Day, he will donate money to organizations like Southerners on New Ground and Color of Change, to help bail out hundreds of incarcerated fathers.

Check out Jay Z’s full opt-ed over at Time’s website.

Stars Outraged Over Philando Castile Death Verdict

(AllHipHop News) Common and Q-Tip are among the outraged stars venting their frustrations on social media after the police officer who shot and killed Philando Castile in July, 2016, was acquitted by a jury.

The sickening incident, which was streamed on Facebook by Castile’s girlfriend, sparked a series of violent clashes between police and protesters last summer – but even the footage wasn’t enough to convict Minnesota cop Jeronimo Yanez, who pulled the victim over for a broken taillight.

Castile told the officer he had a gun on him, which was not visible, and Yanez shot the driver five times, while his girlfriend’s four-year-old daughter watched from the back seat.

Activists were hoping the cop would be severely punished for his actions, but a jury let him walk free on Friday , and Common and Tip were among a number of stars stunned at the verdict.

Yanez was found not guilty of all counts in the fatal shooting of Castile after a 12-member jury spent 27 hours deliberating the case over five days.

Yanez, 29, had been charged with one count of second-degree manslaughter and two counts of reckless discharge of a firearm for killing Castile, 32.

On Friday afternoon a spokesman for the city of St. Anthony in Minnesota issued a statement saying the police officer would no longer be employed in the area.

After the verdict, Castile’s mother, Valerie told the media, “There has always been a systemic problem in the state of Minnesota, and me thinking, common sense that we would get justice. But nevertheless the system continues to fail black people. I am so disappointed in the state of Minnesota. My son loved Minnesota. He had one tattoo on his body and it was of the Twin Cities. My son loved this city, and the city killed my son and the murderer gets away.”

Big Boi Did A Huge Deal With Vimeo To Produce A New Cartoon

(AllHipHop News) Outkast hitmaker Big Boi is set to get animated for a new cartoon series.

The ATLiens rapper-and-producer has partnered up with bosses at video-sharing website Vimeo to pay homage to his beloved hometown of Atlanta, Georgia in “Hotlanta Waxx.”

“I have a new cartoon coming out,” he tells Rolling Stone magazine. “It’s called ‘Hotlanta Waxxx.’ I did a million dollar deal with Vimeo, and it’s in production right now.”

Big Boi, real name Antwan Andre Patton, will also voice a character on “Hotlanta Waxx,” which he touts as a show with one of the most out-of-the-box narratives in entertainment.

“I play a retired CIA agent who buys a car wash on ancient burial grounds,” he explains, “So you got dinosaurs (on the series), zombie strippers, aliens. Anything can happen, and the s**t is f##kin’ hilarious.”

The musician will be making a formal announcement about the program next week, but Big Boi admits he couldn’t keep the news to himself thanks to the magnitude of the project.

“It’s not triple X as in sex, but it’s triple X because it’s raw,” he explains, “So it’s crazy, man. Organized Noize is (sic) the music producers for the series, too, so you already know what that’s gonna be (like).”

“Hotlanta Waxx” isn’t Big Boi’s first foray into animation – the rapper lent his voice to a character in a 2006 episode of hit cartoon King of the Hill and he most recently made an appearance on hit TV series “Animals.”

Lady Luck Accuses Remy Ma Of Being A Hypocrite!

(AllHipHop Rumors) It’s clear that Lady Luck still hasn’t gotten over her long-standing riff with Remy Ma.

She has taken time to not only call out Remy on Twitter, but to also debate folks on where she stands as a female in Hip Hop, and on Remy’s antics.

Lady Luck accused Remy Ma of going against Nicki Minaj about the same stuff that Remy allegedly tried to do to her.

“So @RealRemyMa is on a campaign against a female rapper for doing What she tried doing to me ?? #Karma,” tweeted Luck.

She went on to tweet that Remy was allegedly too much of a punk to film with her on Love & Hip Hop because she was afraid of being exposed by Luck.

“Your so called “Queen” told #LHHNY producers she was too p#### to film with me bc she knows imma pull her card and expose her?,” said Lady Luck.

She even told a fan page that Remy has yet to beat her fair and square.

“Let’s be clear Lil fan page b-tch @RealRemyMa never ever beat me fair ane square #ScreamIt2thegrave

Lady Luck sounds like she’s pretty bothered, but she better leave Remy Ma alone. LOL. What are your thoughts? Does she have any points?

Actor Playing Tupac Refuses To Be Typecast By His Breakout Role

(AllHipHop News) Actor Demeterius Shipp Jr. has no interest in playing Tupac Shakur again after portraying the rapper in “All Eyez On Me.”

The aspiring star, whose eerie resemblance to the dead rap star helped him land his breakout role as the hip-hop legend in the new biographical movie, insists he’ll be one and done as his fellow Californian.

“This is the foot in the door, in a major way,” he tells TMZ. “This is a stepping stone, something to build from, (but) the next role (I take on) is essential (for me) to be known as Demetrius Shipp, the actor, rather than Tupac.”

Despite his reservations about playing the rapper again in a future film, Demetrius is proud of “All Eyez on Me” and he is excited about the great buzz the biopic is receiving.

“It’s an amazing feeling,” he smiles. “The reception has been great, I’m happy about that and I’m just ready for the world to see it.”

“All Eyez on Me,” which also stars “The Walking Dead” actresses Danai Gurira and Lauren Cohan, as well as “The Vampire Diaries” star Kat Graham, made its red carpet debut in Los Angeles on Wednesday night.

Some of the rap industry’s biggest names, including Kendrick Lamar, Russell Simmons, 2 Chainz, Big Boi, E-40, MC Hammer, and Tupac’s former collaborators DJ Quik, Shock G and his mentor Leila Steinberg, appeared at the screening.

The star-studded night concluded at the nearby Hammer Museum, where guests attending the screening after-party danced well into the night to some of the late California Love rapper’s tracks while sipping Alize cocktails.

“All Eyez on Me” will be released in U.S. theaters on Friday (June 16), on what would have been Tupac’s 46th birthday.

Bang Em Smurf Addresses Irv Gotti’s Comments About 50 Cent’s Alleged Order Of Protection

(AllHipHop Rumors) Irv Gotti has stirred up a little bit of controversy surrounding the details of his old beef battles with 50 Cent during his recent press runs.

Irv Gotti talked about how he thought he was going to be able to clap back at 50 Cent back in the day by showing that the very person working at destroying Murder Inc, 50, actually allegedly had an order of protection out against the “Inc.”

Like Irv said, unfortunately is fell on deaf ears, and the world wanted to only be #Team50Cent back then.

Well Bang Em Smurf decided to clear the air by explaining to M. Reck what really went down with the order of protection.

“The Irv Gotti beef and 50 Cent. But I like I said I had spoke about that situation already. The order of protection did exist. The engineer got stabbed in his chest. He was the one that actually went through with the lawsuit. That’s why it was an order of protection because it was under 50 Cent’s session. 50 was not the one who brought the order of protection out on him; it was the engineer. He actually got paid from that. So he did sue Murder Inc. There was a lawsuit. They did have to cough out money, but it was for the engineer,” said Bang Em Smurf.

Basically Smurf said 50 Cent ain’t never been worried about Murder Inc. Well we don’t blame Irv for “trying” LOL. Carry on.

Man Claims That Roscoe Dash Has A New Interesting Job!

(AllHipHop Rumors) I honestly think folks are so mean to each other for no reason. I mean if you look at social media and the hateful comments you would think that the majority of people can’t wait to clown someone once they have a downfall or face a hardship. SMH.

Sh-t happens, and people fall on hard times. There are times the checks stop coming in.

Anyway. Lawd! A pretty disgruntled Lyft user decided to take to Twitter in an attempt to blast his Lyft driver who he believed to be rapper Roscoe Dash.

Apparently the Lyft customer was upset that “Roscoe” cancelled his Lyft ride, as he “had somewhere to go”, thus inconveniencing him and forcing him to have to order another Lyft ride.

“This n-gga rosoce dash canceled my lyft and I had some where to be! so you just for inconvenience me, Ima expose you a lyft driver now,” the man wrote.

The man also attached a screenshot of his Lyft route to the tweet with an image of a man named Jeffery who drives a Chevy Tahoe, and who obviously looked just like Roscoe. Oh yea and Roscoe’s real name is Jeffrey Lee Johnson Jr.

I mean if it is Dash, we can’t knock the hustle, but folks weren’t too kind on social media as they cracked jokes on him and accused him of falling from his short-lived fame.

A rep for Dash has since cleared the air by saying that Dash does own the car, but he doesn’t drive for Lyft. The rep claims that Dash rents out his vehicles to help those close to him, and he doesn’t believe folks should knock people who are trying to make honest livings to take care of their families.

Roscoe’s rep also told XXL that Dash said,

“So, having said all that, I say this. I am not going to respond with negativity. WE as humans are above that. Instead, I choose to respond with positivity. I have decided to take this opportunity to open the lines of communication and reach out to the gentleman who Tweeted about me yesterday evening. My team and I want to offer him a ride to make up for the cancelled ride of which I think he wanted to happen very badly. I still won’t be driving (sorry Twitter haters, the allegation is simply untrue), but I WILL be in the car. I will also sit in on random rides provided by Lyft playing songs off of my upcoming album and meeting with fans throughout the course of this weekend. It’s important to take the high road, no matter the situation. Rather than choosing negativity, I CHOOSE MUSIC!”

Hey, Lyft and Uber don’t seem like bad jobs for creatives that don’t want to work 9-5’s as they appreciate their flexibility. What are your thoughts?

DJ Khaled Honored In NYC For His ‘Major Keys’ Education Campaign (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Last year, DJ Khaled launched the “Major Keys” Get Schooled campaign featuring monthly “keys” providing advice to young people.

Earlier this week, Get Schooled and Viacom honored the Grateful album creator with the “Khaled Key Day” for the success of the program.

“I am grateful for the positive impact we have had on so many young people and even more grateful for their talent and leadership,” said DJ Khaled.  “I am excited to work with Get Schooled to inspire and engage even more young people next year.”

Khaled also joined Get Schooled, Viacom, and radio personality Sway Calloway in recognizing over 400 high school students during Yearbook Day in New York City’s Times Square.

“I’m so grateful for Get Schooled, they gave me the opportunity to visit and tour Harvard University and meet DJ Khaled and his crew,” stated Patricia Fuentes, a senior from Miami. “I’m happy to say that in the fall I will be attending Harvard University and Get Schooled helped me see my future school in person!”

The “Major Keys” campaign reached more than 250 million people, and the initiative’s content has received close to a million page views on the Get Schooled website.

Up next for Khaled is a 2017-18 effort titled “Win More Music” which aims to connect young people with deeper knowledge of music and the music industry.

50 Cent Goes In On ‘All Eyez One Me’!

(AllHipHop Rumors) 50 Cent is NEVER one to hold back his feelings!

There have certainly been mixed reviews about the long-awaited Tupac biopic, ‘All Eyez On Me’.

While some felt that it perfectly tells the life and career story of the late, great Tupac Shakur, there were many others who felt that the biopic was poorly done, rushed, more of a TV movie, and some, like 50 Cent, felt like the movie was complete trash.

Some folks like artists, media, and industry professionals were able to see the movie early, but it actually hit theaters today on Tupac’s birthday, June 16.

50 Cent took to his Instagram to go in on the biopic!

“Man I watched the 2 PAC film, that was some bullsh-t. Catch that sh-t on a fire stick ?trust me. LOL SMH TRASH,” said 50 Cent.

He went on to say,

“I just want you to keep me in mind when you watch that sh-t. Straight Outta Compton was good. That was a bad movie man, 2 Pac is supposed to be a classic they f-cked it up. John Singleton said it was wack, I had to see it for myself. Go check it out you gonna be mad as a mother f-cker. I want my money back now.”

Maybe it’s not trash, but he has a point by saying the Tupac movie is supposed to be a classic!

If you’ve seen the movie, let us know your thoughts below. If you haven’t, as soon as you see it, come back and let us know your thoughts. LOL!
