Flint, Michigan, is certainly not one of the first places that comes to mind when Hip-Hop is mentioned. Until recently, aside from the success of the late MC Breed, the seventh largest city in Michigan had made few contributions to the art form that was born at 1520 Sedgwick Avenue. But then came rapper Jon Connor. He was introduced to the Hip-Hop scene in 2005 and after a few releases, Connor established himself as a force to reckoned with. Now with a new website and his upcoming Unconscious State album, he is set to grow his already large fan base and prove that the co-signs he has received from rap’s elite (Busta Rhymes, Nas, just to name a few) were well worth it.
AllHipHop.com: Congratulations on the launch of your new website, www.jonconnormusic.com. I know you’ve always been very interactive with fans via social media. How do you see your website contributing to your already strong Internet presence?
Jon Connor: It’s just one location that can take you to anywhere Jon Connor. It’s one home base for everybody to go to and find my Instagram, my Twitter, whatever the case may be. I know before when I had a website, [there] was a feature on there where you could have fans ask you questions and then I could respond to them, so even with that, I think I’m going to add that to the site because I love talking to the people, getting their feedback, hearing their stories, and all that type of stuff. It (the website) just makes me more easily accessible if I wasn’t already easily accessible through my Twitter. I think the website just brings them (the fans) a little closer to me and brings them to where they don’t have to go a million different places. Now it’s just one location and they can go from there.
AllHipHop.com: How did the preparation of your upcoming album, Unconscious State, differ from your earlier work and what do fans have to look forward to on it?
Jon Connor: It was the most different process I ever had to go through because [there] was a lot going on, like a whole lot. I was on that Big Krit tour working on this album, and then I was on tour with Xzibit working on this album. And then, in my family, my grandfather had a stroke. And I’m a person who doesn’t believe in excuses, it’s kinda harsh. In show business, they say, “the show goes on” and that’s really true. Because no matter what’s going on in your personal life, people still expect you to get on that stage and smile and rock out. When I did The People’s Rapper, The Blue Album, and While You Were Sleeping back to back to back, it was like cloud nine, no worries. Hakuna matata. Everything was f***in’ dope. But then this was one it was so different because it was a lot of dark stuff. And then also now, I think I’m at a different point in my career to where I have to start learning how to balance doing interviews and doing videos and being on tour and still make an album. This was like my first time really having to balance that and still manage to stay creative.
What should y’all expect? That’s funny. I smile because Unconscious State, for those reasons that I just gave, as far as balancing time and personal stuff going on with my family and stuff, it was like my red-headed step-child, but it ended up being my favorite child to date. Because when I listen to it now, it gives me inspiration and motivation and that’s what I’ve always prided myself on doing in my music. But, because at times in this album I had to make inspirational music from a dark place, it’s kind of like I was talking to myself or trying to encourage myself to keep going. I was actually in a place where I needed the words I was saying just as much as my fans.
AllHipHop.com: What’s the status of you and a major label deal?
Jon Connor: I have to tip-toe around how to answer that one. Just watch the developments, I’ll put it like that because I’ve got a lot of independently released projects that are going to come out on iTunes starting with Unconscious State. Then I got me and Mr. Porter (formerly of D12), we’ve got an EP coming out. Me and Ski Beats, my dog, we got a project coming out. And me and Chris Webby got a project coming out. And after that, as far as like being a solo artist, I’ll just say I’m headed in that direction for going to a major. It’s all depending on which situation makes the most sense and where I’m most comfortable at. But I’m definitely looking forward to signing to a major.
(AllHipHop News) A world where you never miss a concert may been surprisingly soon. Kanye West and Lady Gaga are planning on streaming upcoming concerts over smartphones through the new iOS app Spacebar.
[ALSO READ: Hip-Hop Rumors: Kanye West’s Album Is Finished!]
Spacebar allows musicians to connect their smartphone to the soundboard at their concert and stream the live audio in real-time. The artists can stream it for free or provide users with a five minute preview of the concert before being hit with a $0.99 fee to continue streaming. Fans also have the option to “tip” artists an extra $0.99, $1.99, or $2.99. Artists are compensated through PayPal.
The truly innovative idea addresses the problem posed by the ease of illegal video/audio recording of concerts in this YouTube generation. Spacebar does not keep an archive of the shows and fans are prompted to agree to not record or redistribute the live streams. Spacebar is also not limited to simply streaming concerts as artists can use the app in recording studios, tour buses, house parties and a vast array of other venues.
In addition to Kanye and Gaga, John Legend has also agreed to stream shows this year through Spacebar
The app is available for free at Apple iTunes Store.

I’ve been trying not to write about Chris and Rihanna, but this one just wouldn’t take no for an answer. Peep. The latest is that Rihanna is trying to get the boy CB back and she’s basically going to pay for it. Now, we all know the rumors about her and Drake. I think that’s a woman game she’s playing, following Drake on Instagram and liking a pic or two.
On the low, there are rumors that RiRi is looking to cop Breezy the gift of a life time for his upcoming birthday. Some guy named Naughty But Nice Rob is stating that Rihanna is going to buy the love of her life a 1-of-75 $1 million 2009 Mercedes-Benz McLaren SLR Stirling Moss!
GREAT DAY IN THE MORNING!

Cole runs through growing pains with Jay-Z, balling on a budget with Drake and sheds light on his psych with his new Lauryn Hill-sampled song “Cole Summer”. Hip-Hop Rumors: You Won’t Believe What This Girl Did To Danny Brown On Stage!
Now that you are up to speed, lets get back up to speed. It would seem like the chick that gave Danny Brown the experience of a lifetime is talking! At least on the internet. But chatting cannot be verified very easily. I am going to paraphrase what she said, because its very pause worthy. Basically she talks about dudes johnson quite a bit – that is was larger than the white boys she is generally with. That she sleeps with a lot of people and feels basically liberated as a woman. Promiscuous sex doesn’t determine your worth or how good you are, she maintained. She also said that Danny likes mostly White girls and that’s something he says a lot in his lyrics. I think Danny is colorful, but I don’t listen to the music that much.
I don’t know. This could be pure BS. I really can’t imagine anybody owning up to sucking Danny Boy off live on stage.

You MF’s thought Sweet Brown was going to be the same as Antoine Dotson or whatever, but you would be WRONG. Sweet Brown is different….yes she’s different! Recently, she appeared in a new Tyler Perry movie or she’ll be in the next one – I don’t know! I don’t watch Madea. Nevertheless, the point is, Sweet Brown is doing the DEW! Drop Lil Wayne! Sign Sweet Brown so she can open a cold can of POP.
She released a new song called just that COLD POPPIN! Now watch it.
I’m sorry I wasted your life like that. Here is something far more worthy of your time. This week, Eric and Jeff (ItsTheReal) sit down with international hip-hop artist, Curren$y. Curren$y and the boys take questions from viewers and give their best answers! This is strange. The questions range from the best way to break up to who Curren$y would bring back from the dead. WOW.

I’ll tell you! When these rappers get outside of the Matrix, they definitely let LOOSE how they feel. I can’t wait for Memphis Bleek to do one of these interviews! Before the beef, he’s working on a new album, Life Story 2. The interview is pretty good over all but he begins to go in around the 10 minute mark.
Here’s a tiny sample:
“The white people run it [Hip-Hop]. They don’t like n***as.”“Jay and them n***as done sucked a lot of people dry. Jay-Z and Puffy – they suck a lot of people dry – they talents. They treat you like McDonald’s fries and s**t when they are cold. Don’t nobody want McDonald’s fries when they cold.”
That’s the drama to sum it up but here is the video.

Pittsburgh bred rapper Wiz Khalifa is undoubtably one of the rising icons of the music industry, so it’s no surprise that the young entrepreneur is launching a clothing line with his fellow Taylor Gang friends. Along with fellow Taylor Gang rapper Berner and seasoned clothing veteran Sketch, Taylor Gang is has announced the official launch of Freshko.
With Wiz always being involved in fashion and Berner gaining experience with his own Cookies clothing line, the guys teamed up to form a company and movement in an organic and natural way.
Coupled with the work of designer, Sketch aka Al Freshko, who was instrumental in developing the designs for Diamond Supply Co.’s identity with childhood friend Nick Tershay, Freshko is looking to create a, “timeless forever versatile universal brand that is infinitely evolving.”
“Music, art, graffiti, skating and dancing all fall into the same category,” said Wiz Khalifa. “Just like Taylor Gang has always done, the mission of Freshko is to give others a chance to be a part of something while expressing themselves individually through their own respective vision and knowledge.”
Freshko’s icon is the elemonkey, which symbolizes good luck, fortune, strength, courage, wisdom, intelligence, leadership, and career victory. The circle F represents a solid foundation and solidity, completion, infinite potential, and 360 degrees. The “F” represents fundamentals, focus, freedom, foundation, future, and family.
Freshko life will be releasing on Wednesday May 1st at 4 pm PST. According to the Freshko website, 150 pieces of each item will be available in the online store, as well as 150 pieces of each item for an in store event.
The event will be at DJ Skee’s store, Tradition, located inside the Beverly Center in Los Angeles, where Wiz Khalifa, Berner, and Sketch will all be at the in store showcasing the new line.

The word on the street is that one of the best to ever do it will do it again! They say Kanye West’s album is finished! I bet the only people happier than fans is Kim K and their baby that’s in the oven. Still, I await the album and hope its classic like most of Ye’s material. So, just today, Peter Rosenburg from Hot 97’s Morning Show revealed the goods on Yeezy.
“I just heard that Def Jam had a listening last week and everyone at the label listened tothe album and loved it. I heard it’s dark but really good. I was told it’s dark. Dark Twisted Fantasy was dark too, I love when Kanye goes to that place.”
ME TOO, BECAUSE I’M REALLY SICKENINGLY, DISGUSTINGLY UNHAPPY! LETS GO DARK! I welcome any music that supports those feelings. Anyway, there have been a zillion rumors about the title and the details on the album. Some of them are below, along with the audio.

“Got my n*ggas in Paris, and they’re going gorilla.“-Kanye West
(AllHipHop News) Chuck D is not simply watching The Throne, he’s throwing stones.
During a performance in Lyon, France, the politically charged Hip Hop legend expressed his disgust over the usage of the N-word in the popular “N*ggas in Paris” song:
Standing ovation in Lyon France telling these folks we are African NOT Ngrs In Paris why I gotta travel PlanetEarth cleaning sht from USA?
— Chuck D (@MrChuckD) April 28, 2013
According to the frontman for Public Enemy, a white fan referred to him as a “n*gga”. However, Chuck blames the word’s pervasiveness in the vernacular of Black men for the white fan’s misuse of the word:
@fl1991 @chaloupe He didnt know. Its a language cultural thing where thyv seen black men call themselves that like happy ass slaves for 20yrs
— Chuck D (@MrChuckD) April 28, 2013
While admitting that Jay-Z is a “very very sharp smart dude,” Chuck also asserts that Jay-Z should assume more social responsibility for his actions.
This is not the first time Chuck has been critical of Jay-Z and Kanye West’s Watch The Throne collaboration. In a 2010 interview U.K. publication The Times, Chuck D questioned the group’s true intentions with their music:
“Hip hop celebrates those who wanna make a killing instead of a living. I like those guys, but they make me laugh sometimes because I don’t get who they’re here for, other than themselves.”
