So, I know everybody is saying that Jay and Raekwon are going to be on the same song and they were in the studio together. So. I admit, I know the talk and the semi-official word on the street. And, I have no doubt that now that the hype surrounding this is at a fever pitch, I have to say that I got some intel. This tells me something a bit different about it. I was told by a source that 1) that picture was not taken in the studio. If you look, you can see its not the booth or anything like that. 2) that that picture was actually taken a ways back for a Raekwon interview with Jay’s Life + Times site. And it was more recently out out by Lenny S. Nobody actually said there was a song coming, but I have no doubt there is a song or collaboration of some sort on the way. Kanye has regularly gotten good results from Rae and even Ghost. Together (Kanye and Jay) linked up with RZA on Watch The Throne. So…..at the end of the day, we’ll see. That was a nice bit of Hip-Hop rumory.
Funny, I saw one of the comments in yesterday’s post talking about “finally a real Hip-Hop rumor.” Man, I WISH there were more myself.
If you are an artist or represent an artist or follow “Hip-Hop” artists closely…let me know what rumors or whatever you may have. Nobody wants more “Hip-Hop” rumors than me. (AllHipHop News) As Love and Hip-Hop Atlanta star Lil Scrappy’s difficult love life plays out on television, his legal troubles continue to play out in court. During a probation revocation hearing on Wednesday, prosecutors claim the 28-year-old rapper switched his urine during a drug screening. The drug testing is required under the conditions of Scrappy’s probation from marijuana and gun procession charges in 2008.
DeKalb County Superior Court Judge Daniel Coursey decided to reschedule another hearing for next Wednesday so that Scrappy’s urine sample could be processed.
Scrappy turned himself in to police last month after his parole officer alleged he provided a drug sample that was cold to the touch, meaning it may have been old urine or someone else’s. Officials claim he was asked to give another test, but he refused. Scrappy was released from jail on April 24th.
Scrappy gave his side of the story in an interview with Streetz 94.5.
“They didn’t even test the pee,” Scrappy told host Rashan Ali. “I said, ‘you can check me or whatever you gotta do.’ He didn’t wanna check me. He got a little hostile with his voice, and I ain’t feena let nobody put they paws on me.”

One thing about me. I’m the worst kinda, worst kinda, worst kinda celebrity, because all I do is make real music. All I do is sit in the studio and make real, real s###, and that’s it. That’s m############ it. That’s m############ it. So I don’t want nobody running up on me with no cameras, trying to sell pictures and s### to magazines, asking me no d###### questions. Throwing me off of my focus and s###. Harassing you all m############ day. I ain’t no m############ celebrity.
…go on SNL and you’re going to do like a skit about the paparazzi and s### and like humanize yourself?’ I ain’t here to apologize to no m############ man. It ain’t about me humanizing myself. At what point did I become unhuman where I had to turn myself back? Or maybe i was demonized. Or maybe I was treated inhumane and not human in that type of situation.
I ain’t no m############ celebrity. I ain’t running for office. I ain’t kissing nobody’s m############ babies. I drop your baby and you sue me and s###. I’m trying to make some music that inspires people to be the best they can be. I don’t want nobody to ask nothing else of me. Don’t ask nothing else of me. M############ chasing you down ’bout to make you crash and s###. And all they want is for a n#### to laugh and s###. Hell nah, I ain’t doing no m############ SNL skits, this my g###### life. This ain’t no m############ joke. That’s it. Stop that s### right there.
(AllHipHop News) News that 14-year-old Jaden Smith was hoping for complete independence from his parents broke earlier this week, but now Jaden and his father, Will Smith, are saying there is no chance that the young actor/rapper will be living on his own anytime soon.
“I’m not going anywhere,” Jaden told Ellen DeGeneres during an appearance on her show yesterday. “I can get anything and everything that I want at [Will’s] house, so I think I’m going to be there for 20, 30 more years.”
Will claims that the quote credited to him that started the story of Jaden asking for emancipation was a misunderstanding.
“I think I made a joke in Tokyo,” said Will. “No, no emancipation for the Smith kids.”
“[Will] says as soon as I have a movie that’s bigger than one of his movies I can get my own house,” joked Jaden.
Both Smiths will appear in the new movie After Earth opening May 31st.
Demrick sat down with AllHipHop.com to talk about the meaning behind the title of his latest mixtape “All The Wrong Things 2”. He also speaks on up and coming projects and working with Cypress Hill front man B-Real.
Ok, ok, it doesn’t feel like it. Many states have yet to break 80 degrees. But, as long the sun rises and sets, the coming of summer is inevitable. On the silver screen, big-budget blockbusters are also an indicator that summer is right around the corner.
This year, the summer kick-off film debuted in early May with Iron Man 3. The following week saw the release of epic and sweeping Gatsby, with Leonardo DiCaprio in what may be his finest role yet. May 10 also brought the family-friendly, Peeples, to your local theater. But, there are still lots of great movies to look forward to this summer. Here are a few of our picks.
Star Trek: Into Darkness
May 17
Starring: Chris Pine, Zoe Saladana
Directed by: JJ Abrams
The big budget, splashy second-installment of the Star Trek series is getting incredible reviews. Into Darkness has action and laughs, and it wouldn’t be movie featuring James T. Kirk without some outer space lovin’. A battle with the Klingons and an enigmatic villan that makes you love to hate him. The second installment is even better than the first.
Fast & Furious 6
May 24
Starring: Vin Diesel, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Tyrese Gibson
The hard-to-kill franchise returns with a summer hit that is sure to feature fast cars and fast girls. The crew reunites to defeat a rogue driving crew and clear their names. We are willing to bet that there will definitely be at least one more FF movie, I mean, you gotta make a lucky 7, right?
The Hangover Pt. 3
May 24 (Moved to May 23)
Starring: Zach Galifinakis, Bradley Cooper, Mike Epps
What can you say about the Hangover series? The first film created breakout stars of Galifinakis, who is funny in any and everything he does, as well as Bradley Cooper. The finale of the films is full of gags, jokes, and a kidnapping, like usual. But, writer/director Todd Phillips states that the movie has a very clear ending to bring this hilarious trilogy to a close.
After Earth
May 31
Starring: Will Smith, Jaden Smith
For years, the summer belonged to Will Smith who had hit after hit starting with Independence Day in 1996. This year, Smith reunites with his son for an exciting trip into the future where he plays Cypher Raige (dope name) father to Kitai whose bad behavior is a cry for his father’s time and attention. Cypher takes his son on a trip to Earth which turns out to be anything but routine.
This is the End
June 12
Starring: Craig Robinson, Kevin Hart, James Franco
A stoner hit with an all-star cast, This is the End, is sure to be so full of jokes, they will barely fit on the screen. The film stars a dozen comedy actors all playing fictional versions of themselves. After a series of cataclysmic events, the friends are isolated in a bunker and their friendship is tested as the world ends around them.
The Lone Ranger
July 3
Starring: Johnny Depp
An adaptation of the popular television series, The Lone Ranger features Johnny Depp as Tonto and Arnie Hammer as the masked hero. The story is told from Tonto’s point of view of two unlikely heroes fighting greed and corruption.
Fruitvale Station
July 26
Starring: Michael B. Jordan
An amazing independent film, Fruitvale Station stars Michael B. Jordan in the based on a true story version of the life of 22-year-old Oscar Grant, and his experiences on the last day of his life before he was shot to death by police in 2009.
2 Guns
August 2
Starring: Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg
By the time the leaves begin to fall, a crime drama rounds out the summer season. A DEA Agent (Washington) and Naval Intelligence Officer (Wahlberg) are set up and accused of stealing money from the mob. After realizing they were tricked by the CIA, they join forces to clear their names and stay alive.
And, there you have it folks! A few great films for you to check out this summer. Tell us about any other movies you’re planning to see this summer or what you think about our list.
Multi-platinum recording artist, DJ and producer Lil Jon brought the crunk to this week’s episode of SMIRNOFF’s MASTER OF THE MIX competition as a guest judge while the remaining six DJ’s fought for the title in their most creative challenge yet.
Following an initial battle that saw Tina T, who was eliminated last week’s, try to get a spot back on the show (she didn’t), host Amanda Seales filled the DJ’s in on there challenge for the week which was dubbed “the most technical.” “Invent or Get Sent” required the six remaining DJ’s to piece together a creative set using all the possible DJ tools like Serato, scratch drumming, cues and other inventive DJ tricks.
After some short time working on their sets in the lab, Lil Jon surprised the competitors and dropped some knowledge on them about his transition to DJ’ing and EDM. Most importantly though Jon shared his most important piece of information when he said, “you cant lose if you’ve got the whole place going nuts. Its all about the crowd.”
JayCeeOh, who tied for first place last week alongside Chris Karns, kickd things off first during the challenge with M.O.P’s “Ante Up,” Ol Dirty Bastard’s “Shimmy Shimmy Ya” and 2 Chainz’s “I’m Different.” Off of those three tracks alone he had the entire place rocking with him. Soon after he changed up the tempo and began mixing several other tracks together.
“I thought you chose great samples to loop and switch up,” said Kid Capri. He continued, “You slipped up a few times but covered yourself up with a good scratch or good blend.” Lil Jon had much more priase for Jayceeoh. “That was creative as a motherf*cker! You did a great job,” Lil Jon shouted. Jayceeoh responded to the praise by simply stating that he just wanted to have some fun.
DJ Locszi was up next and immediately got into mixing tracks from Kanye West, Carl Douglas, 2 Chainz and Deadmau5. Unfortunately his execution wasn’t nearly as on-point as he would have hoped. “Creating your own beat is one thing but making it sound flawless is another and that’s not what you were doing at all,” said Kid Capri.
The Bronx-born Incrediboi followed Locszi with a genius mix of Daft Punk’s “One More Time” that he blended with Gwen Stefani’s “Hollaback Girl.” Incrediboi also took 2 Chainz’s “I’m Different” to heart when he called out each of his competitiors following the line “middle finger up to the competition.” While most of the judges seemed entertained, Kid Capri didn’t share the same sentiment. “Today was your weakest set,” he criticized. However Lil Jon came back and gave Incrediboi an ego boost by stating, “Overall you entertained the crowd and that’s what’s really important.”
DJ Flyguy, who has seen his fair share of the bottom all season long, set out to prove that he still had skills and deserved to be in the running for the title. Unfortuantly, the DJ’s didn’t get to see any of them. Overall Flyguy’s set was sloppy and inventive-less. Ben Maddahi said point-blank, “that was one of the sloppiest mixes I’ve heard on the entire show.” “This is not the way I wanted to leave the show,” Flyguy cried backstage, knowing that he was at the top of the list of competitors to get sent home this week.
The show’s early favorite to take SMIRNOFF’s MASTER OF THE MIX title, Chris Karns, was up last yet managed to still wow the DJ’s following the five sets that played before him. Between all the scratching, mixing, cues, and blending, Karns officially won the crowd over when he dropped Dead Prez’s classic track “Hip-Hop” that had all of the judges on their feet. “Whenever I stand up, that means you were the s###,” shouted Kid Capri. Both Ben and Lil Jon felt the same way when they said “that was a flawless victory” and “you just killed it!”
There was little doubt that Flyguy, who was his own worst enemy during throughout the show, would be this week’s casualty, despite having to fight for his spot earloier on the show versus Tina T. The judges had a tougher time crowning the challenge’s victor. “Chris definitely did what was asked,” said Lil Jon. “But JayCeeOh made it fun for everybody from beginning to end.” Ultimatley, Chris Karns was celebrated for the most inventive set of the night and was crowned the challenges victor.
Next week’s challenge will find the remaining five competitors “bending the ten” as they are tasked with mixing ten tracks all of which have completely different song structures.
Jay-Z and Raekwon on the same track? It’s pretty much a dream come true for 90s rap heads. Both are wizards with the drug rap and crimes tales but from two completely different sides of the hustlers spectrum. However, they definitely share some common ground and have helped keep the integrity in New York rap. Thanks to Lenny S., we know a collabo is on the way. Was the RZA there?? Please.
