It was Thanksgiving night. Stuffed full of good food, with a couple hundred dollars designated for a Black Friday television sale burning a hole in my pocket. I sat in a driveway on the east side of Atlanta waiting for a family member. While I waited, Lil’ Bankhead said, “If this record ain’t broke already, we breaking it tonight.” And, the legendary record-breaking DJ played the same song eleventy-million times… Well, maybe it was only about 12 times, but it was 12 times back to back to back.
The song was “All Gold Everything” and in true ATL tradition, the song became a hit locally that night and quickly became a hit around the country. The record reached #6 on the Billboard Rap Charts and became an anthem for most of the winter.
But winter is gone. It’s Spring and everyone is wondering and waiting on what’s going to come next from the Trini man.
This past Thursday, May 2nd, we hoped to hear some new music from Trinidad James. But, instead, we were treated to an amazing meal from TreeSound Studios resident chef/studio manager, Mali Hunter, and heard some cool music from some other Atlanta artists, including Rich Homie Quan who is popping with “Differences.”
While the All Gold Everything party wasn’t the listening party we all expected, Trinidad James was presented with his gold plaque from Def Jam for the success of his debut single and media was allowed to ask the rapper a few questions.
His swag is a cross between hipster chic and weird old man, yet, Trinidad James (born Nicholas Williams) sat in a quiet studio talking softly to his beautiful mother. With a soft accent and a beautiful personality, he answered a few questions. Trinidad has a peaceful demeanor. He talked a lot about energy, about knowing the true nature of a person.
Educated in Catholic schools, he was well-spoken and soft-mannered, everything about him was different from the image he projects. But, maybe not. Maybe he has always been who he is, and it’s been us who’ve been wrong this whole time. Judging him only by his looks, calling him “Jerome” from Martin, when in reality, he’s just another 25-year-old who is living a rap dream. A hipster with a thrift shop fashion sense and a rap style that is an amalgamation of all of those who came before.
We hope that the new album is good. There hasn’t been much of a follow-up to “All Gold Everything,” and “All Gold Everything (Remix)” the next song, “Females Welcomed,” hasn’t broken onto the charts yet, and Thanksgiving is still months away. This time, when Trinidad James breaks a new record, it will have to be on his own.
Check out our interview with Trinidad James:
Following last week’s Miami-centric episode of SMIRNOFF’s MASTER OF THE MIX DJ competition, the remaining eight turntable maestros were tasked with creating a five-minute mega mix showcasing the EDM genre.
With more than half of the third season behind us, this week’s cleverly dubbed “Half & Half” episode featured a number of twists, the first being that the competitors would be pairing up in teams of two and the second being that the least-liked set would send both DJ’s on a team packing.
With last week’s victory under his belt, DJ Chris Karnes was given the authority to not just choose his partner for this weeks challenge; he would be assigning the other three teams partners as well.
Karnes, without hesitation, chose DJ Jayceeoh, creator of the acclaimed “Super 7” series, who he felt is the best DJ in the competition beside himself. “Put us together and we’re like the dream team,” Chris proclaimed. “We should be able to beat any two DJ’s they throw at us.”
After selecting Jayceeoh as his teammate, Karnes paired up the other remaining DJ’s starting with Tina T and Brian Dawe, then Incrediboi and DJ Locszi, and lastly DJ Flyguy and Dynamix. Each pair was given ten minutes to meet privately and create a game plan that was followed by three hours in the workshop to craft and create their EDM-inspired sets.
Despite their confidence being at an all-time high, Jayceeoh and Karnes knew that there was a lot of room for error because they were taking a lot of risks with their set. “That practice run through that we did was horrible,” Karnes said. “We made a ton of mistakes that we usually wouldn’t.” Luckily for them, what went wrong for them during practice, went very right for them during their showcase.
DJ Locszi and Flyguy on the other hand took a more simplistic approach by sticking to what they know. “I’ve never done a set with another DJ at the same exact time, “ Locszi revealed. “This is the first.”
Before long the night’s challenge, which was held at Miami hotspot Frequency, was upon us. SMIRNOFF’s MOTM host Amanda Seales was joined by judges Kid Capri, DJ Mia Moretti, Ben Maddahi and guests the EC Twins.
The first duo to unleash their set was the former weeks champion Chris Karnes with his partner for the challenge, DJ Jayceeoh. After some light scratching to a Lil Jon sample, the EDM music dropped and rotated back and forth between heavy mixing and scratching. As the set went on, you could see both DJ’s becoming more comfortable, not just with each other, but with the challenge as a whole. Their energy was up, and both the crowd and judges loved it. “That was very entertaining and very clean,” said Kid Capri. “I thought it was remarkable.”
Tina T, who was the show’s only remaining female, and Brian Dawe were next. They immediately started trying out some more unconventional techniques like having Tina stand behind Brian and scratch with her hands without seeing the turntables. Despite the lack of mixing early in their set and DJ Capri’s initial look of disappointment, he began nodding his head.
“I thought the chemistry was great and the performance was theatrical,” Capri explained. Ben Maddahi on the other hand was not as impressed, hitting the duo hard for their use of Aviici’s “Levels” which has been way overused during this seasons sets.
Following the “married couple” was Dynamix and Flyguy who dubbed themselves “FlyNamix” for the challenge. Starting off with Lil Jon and Sidney Samson’s “Mutate,” the DJing duo mixed a number of songs including Basement Jaxx’s “Where’s Your Head At.” The team worked very well together and had a great energy and sense of humor behind their turntables. “I congratulate you for addressing the crowd cause there the most important,” Capri exclaimed. “I like the way you complement each other.”
Last up was Incrediboi and DJ Locszi who explored the past and present of EDM music, or what they called the “history of house,” during their set. Although the crowd wasn’t really moving the pair still gave the set their all until things began to fall apart in. They pair did try to salvage their set in the end with simpler mixing and scratching. Incrediboi absolutely murdered (in a good way) the scratching and made the judges and crowd forget about everything that had happened earlier. “That took it to another level at the end,” Ben shouted.
After an intense deliberation that was dubbed “the most difficult decision of the season, hands down,” the judges ultimately decided that there would have to be a tie for first place since Ben Maddahi felt Karnes and Jayceeoh were the best,” while guest judges the EC Twins felt that Incredibioi and Locszi were #1.
Despite there being a tie for first between the competing tandems of DJ Chris Karnes/DJ Jayceeoh and DJ Locszi/Incrediboi, there was no doubt about who this weeks weakest duo was. The lovebirds known as DJ Tina T and Brian Dawe had their “records scratched” as they were sent packing (although a preview for next week hints that one of the eliminated DJ’s may be returning).
Next week’s episode will feature multi-platinum rapper, DJ and producer Lil Jon as a guest judge when SMIRNOFF’s MASTER OF THE MIX hits episode nine of its third season!
Check back next week for another episode recap!
SMIRNOFF’s MASTER OF THE MIX Airs Tuesday’s at 12am on VH1.
(AllHipHop News) The block got a little too close to Jennifer Lopez for comfort on Sunday(May 5th). While shooting the new music video for her song Live It Up” with Pitbull nearby gunshots were heard and police arrived at the scene.
The gunshots began during an interview Lopez was having with Entertainment Tonight‘s Rob Marciano:
BREAKING:Gunshots fired on Fort Lauderdale Beach DURING my JLo interview. No kidding. Security scrambled her away.
— Rob Marciano (@RobMarciano) May 5, 2013
The shooting occurred at the northernmost point of the Ft. Lauderdale Beach Park where the music video was being filmed. Interestingly enough, no evidence of a shooting at the park.
Lopez was escorted off the set once the gunshots were heard.
Rumors have begun circulating that producers for American Idol desperately want to bring the former judge back for the next season.
The former American Idol judge is planning to perform the “Live It Up” single on American Idol‘s season finale on May 16th.
YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! This kid took it to the next level with it. There’s not a lot of new places to go with Hip-Hop and dissing, but this one takes the cake!

Dude Dayo used to date V-Nasty, but she went and got pregnant and said it was his when it wasn’t. Now apparently, there were some other word said from The Nasty One that I don’t know about. Why? Because the Brooklyn rapper returned with this. Here is the diss record:
Riff Raff got some too.
MISTER CEE ACTUALLY SAID THIS:
“I embrace the gay community more than you know- more than any of you guys know.”
Based on what we know, I don’t want to know what we don’t know!
I cannot sum this up any clearer. Steph Lova is going to spazz on somebody! She’s almost to spit on and Kim Osorio of Source magazine accused her of lying on “The Gossip Game.” And then Steph tweeted this:
I’m keep my mouth shut for now but #Trust I see u fake b###### & I will be seeing ya’ll real soon…i hope ya’ll ready….CAUSE I AM! WORDDD

(AllHipHop News) There appears to be a riff happening in Hip-Hop group Naughty by Nature. Late last night a tweet from frontman Treach’s Twitter account said that fellow Naughty member, Vinnie, was “fired” from the group, and in a follow-up tweet Treach went on to call Vin Rock a few expletives as well.
Vinnie from NAUGHTY BY NATURE is Officially FIRED!! Anything he does besides shows til Sept is Frugazy!! F### him & the Ground he Walks!!
— Treach (@triggertreach) May 7, 2013
Anybody that f#### with that B#### ass N#### Don’t F### with Me!!
— Treach (@triggertreach) May 7, 2013
Later the certified Naughty by Nature Twitter account tweeted a link from Vinnie’s Instagram page. The picture including the caption “Sitting Vin!” and a quote by Native American resistance fighter Sitting Bull that read:
Warriors are not what you what you think of as warriors. The warrior is not someone who fights, because no one has the right to take another life. The warrior, for us, is one who sacrifices himself for the good of others.
According to the group’s website, Treach, Vinnie, and DJ Kay are scheduled to perform in Durham on May 18th and in North Carolina on May 24th. There is no official statement on Naughty by Nature’s site or Twitter feed about the break up or Treach’s tweets.
Naughty by Nature have been performing as a unit for nearly 25 years. Their first major hit was 1991’s “O.P.P.” They went on to release other huge records like “Uptown Anthem” from the Juice soundtrack and the Top 10 single “Hip Hop Hooray.”

The group officially stopped recording together in 1999 as each member went on to pursue individual careers. Treach and Vinnie reunited for 2002’s IIcons, but it was not until Anthem Inc in 2011 that all three members were associated with an album as Naughty by Nature. The group has been touring around the world together for years.
Calls made to Naughty by Nature’s management were not responded to at the time this article was published. AllHipHop will update this story as more details emerge.

Looks like Trick Daddy isn’t finished with Lil Wayne. He’s got a bone to pic and he spoke on it to TMZ.
Trick Daddy tells TMZ he’s open to a proposed sit-down with Lil Wayne to settle their feud … but what he’s actually doing is throwing gasoline on the fire. In case you’re not up to speed … Lil Wayne went ballistic after a member of Trick’s posse allegedly flicked a cigarette in Wayne’s dreads at a Miami strip club. Mr. Daddy isn’t copping to the incendiary move. Now here’s where it gets bad. Rather than trying to make things nice, Daddy’s logic is … “If I [wanted to start s**t with Lil Wayne] he would have been in the hospital for a different reason than a seizure.” Trick is bitter … claiming Wayne’s gotten him blackballed from all the good strip clubs in Miami … and hey, now all that’s left are the butterface joints. Finally … enter Birdman … who has the good sense to try and defuse the situation between the 2 feuding rappers by scheduling a sit-down happy meal.

C Tha God Goes In On Mister Cee
Mister Cee got the donkey of the day, as we knew, but he went in on Cee like never before on Power 105. Peep:
“When it comes to purchasing p*nis, you are America’s Most Wanted. But if you simply come out the closet and get you a boyfriend and an apartment, you’ll avoid you a whole lot of legal scrutiny. Being gay is not a crime, but picking up male prostitutes is. This can all be avoided if you come out the closet and get a boyfriend and an apartment. It’s 2013, you’re 46-years-old. You should not be trolling the streets of New York City looking for trade like this is the 70’s. You should be online getting your p*nis like everybody else. Can somebody please get Mister Cee a Facebook page? A Match.com account?”
Only thing, Hot 97 eclipsed it with the whole exclusive interview. Here is the Charlamagne interview.
Illseed’s Quickies
It looks like they Kanye and Kim are doing the damn thing. They received a whole floor of the hospital they plan to give birth in.
Vybz Kartel Got Beat Down! Sources say that reggae megastar Vybz Kartel was beat down in jail by people down with the dude that Kartel allegedly killed. I didn’t even know Kartel was a in jail. I thought he was just out in the world lightening his skin. Nope. The youths that stepped to Kartel, beat his butt, but the fight was squashed by the C.O.s.
DJ Envy has said that he’s really cool with Mister Cee and that Cee needs help. And water is wet.

(AllHipHop News) T.I.’s daughter Zonnique made blog headlines when she went to the prom with fellow rapper Rocko’s son.
For T.I., that warranted a conversation to make sure that all parties were on the same page as to the conduct expected on the big day.
T.I. told AllHipHop exclusively what he relayed Rocko, in an effort to protect his daughter from a possibly date with fast fingers and groping hands.
“Rocko’s son took my daughter to the prom. I called him, I talked to my homeboy. I told man, to tell his son to keep his hands to hisself,” T.I. told AllHipHop.com.
Tip said Rocko’s reply only slightly reassured him that Zonnique would fine.
“He [Rocko] assured me that he had raised a gentleman,” Tip continued. “I was a little more worried, though, because the gentleman is the one you gotta worry about.”
On the music front, Tip is releasing the anticipated Hustle Gang mixtape on May 7 (tomorrow) with features from T.I., B.O.B, Shad Da God, Trae Tha Truth, Iggy Azalea, Travi$ Scott, Young Dro, and other Hustle Gang affiliates.
Here are some of the pictures of the prom day.

MTO is reporting that Beyonce is pregnant. I’m not believing it, but here is the proof they presented:
MediaTakeOut.com just got OFFICIAL WORD this morning – Beyonce and Jat Z are expecting another child together. We spoke with a QUASI-OFFICIAL member of Bey’s team who CONFIRMED IT.
And it gets better. The insider, who told us that Bey is “two months” pregnant, claims that Beyonce is NOT using outside photographers – in hopes that she can HIDE her pregnancy until she’s OUT of her first trimester. The insider explains, “Only photos that do not show her stomach up close are released to the public.”
We’re told that Bey planned on making the OFFICIAL announcement next month . . . at the BET AWARDS. But now that we’re BREAKING THE NEWS . . . it could be MUCH earlier.
By the way, this report is NOT speculation – it is FACT. Once it comes out – don’t forget where you heard it FIRST.
Congratulations to Beyonce and Jay – the TOP BALLER COUPLE IN THE GAME.

Well, there were rumors that Kim and Kanye were going to get married in June, but a rep shot that down. This means that the album is coming! Or this means that Kanye is totally playing with the peoples emotions.
Mariah Carey is reportedly ready to quit American Idol, because she can’t take working with Nicki Minaj. Well, isn’t that what they want? J. Lo’s phone rings in 5, 4, 3, 2….
Tell the truth, that new Lauryn Hill song kinda sucks, don’t it? But it kept her out of jail so it did its job.
Damn, this video if Chris Kelly right before he died is sad. “Footage Surfaces Of Chris Kelly From The Day Of His Death”
