BREAKING NEWS: Lauryn Hill Sentenced To Three Months In Prison Over Taxes

(AllHipHop News) Rapper/singer Lauryn Hill was sentenced to three months in federal prison today (May 6), for not reporting over $2 million in income over a five-year period.

Lauryn Hill  appeared in court, where US Magistrate Madeline Cox Arleo sentenced her to the prison stint, as well as another three months home confinement, with electronic monitoring.

Lauryn Hill had paid over $900,000 in restitution, including a $514,000 payment last week, in addition to signing a new $1 million record deal with Sony, in hopes of alleviating the situation with the IRS.

Hill told Judge Arleo that she intended to pay the tax debt, but she ran into problems after she went on hiatus from her music career, for personal reasons.

To compound her financial issues, late last month, Hill was sued for squatting in a New Jersey mansion, that she has been renting in South Orange, New Jersey, since 2009.

According to her landlord, Hill stopped paying her rent in March.

The singer denied the allegations via a Tumblr post.

“It took years for me to get out of the ‘parasitic’ dynamic of my youth, and into a deal that better reflects my true contribution as an artist, and (purportedly) gives me the control necessary to create a paradigm suitable for my needs,” Lauryn Hill wrote in a Tumblr post. “I have been working towards this for a long time, not just because of my current legal situation, but because I am an artist, I love to create, and I need the proper platform to do so.”

On Friday, Lauryn Hill released her new single “Neurotic Society (Compulsory Mix)” under her new deal with Sony.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Mister Cee Leaves Closet Door Cracked?

IS IT ME OR DID Mister Cee Leaves Closet Door Cracked?

There you have it folks. Mister Cee has proclaimed, “I am not GAY.” He made that clear. Do people believe him? I don’t know. I doubt it. He said he didn’t care what people think of him, but why do the interview if you don’t care. Why bother to say “I am not gay.” But Cee may have set the table for a future coming out when he said the following:

“If I’m lying and I choose not to come out, that’s my choice”

“You know how many gay people there are living in this world?”

“Gay people live with this every day.”

“U have two choices, either you gonna believe me or you not. Either you gonna ride or you not.”

I’m not in the car so I’m not riding with that. I feel like I’m being straight up lied to.

FULL AUDIO: Mister Cee Says “I AM NOT GAY!”

Now, I had a lot of questions myself but I was wondering how they could blatantly disregard facts on Hot 97. Some stuff is very factual! That said, read the news story that goes along with this rumor.

Final word: I’m thinking Cee will eventually come out as gay…when he’s ready.

Damn. He’s got a wife and kids.

Master P Hosts Basketball Camp While Attending Kentucky Derby; Supports Non-Violence in Louisville

(AllHipHop News) When No Limit CEO and Hip-Hop mogul Master P came to Louisville for the Kentucky Derby, he didn’t just come to play the odds on horses, he came to help the odds of inner city youth in Louisville.

In addition to enjoying the horse racing festivities of the “Bluegrass State,” Master P took time to support the youth with a free basketball clinic for kids ages 6-14 called the No Limit Forever Compassion Basketball Camp.

It should come as no surprise that the “Make Em Say Uh” rapper took time to give back to inner city youth via basketball.

Many Hip-Hop fans will remember Master P was a member of the Charlotte Hornets during training camp of the 1998-99 season, and during the 1999-2000 season Master P played exhibition ball for the Toronto Raptors.

In addition, his son Romeo Miller played college ball at USC, so the values and benefits of basketball are ingrained in the Miller family.

Although the camp was centered around the game of basketball, the focus was giving back to inner city children by coaching them on the skills needed to succeed in life.

Seeking to bolster the Louisville inner city community, Master P showed support for victims of violence in the community like Erica Hughes, the 9-year-old Louisville girl who was shot in the head during a 2006 robbery.

In addition to the camp, Master P hosted the Master P Birthday Bash at Cole’s Place, a venue that was previously stricken with violence and a venue Master P wanted to encourage those in the community to continue to support.

“I’m glad to be a part of this. We’re talking about compassion [and] talking about the game of life, you know this is for real. This is for our families, this is for our kids because education is so important,” Master P told Louisville’s WHAS News 11. “The kids are not only learning basketball up in the classroom, they’re learning the important game of life.”

Take a look at the video below of Master P at the No Limit Forever Compassion Basketball Camp and check the images below:

Hip-Hop Rumors: Azealia Banks Lets Us See What She Twerkin’ Wit!

I think Ms. Azealia Banks know that time has come. It is the time when she must show and prove. See, Nicki still has the game on a chokehold for the females, but there is that coveted 2nd place spot that is still vacant. People like Eve are coming back up looking to get in. With her album seemingly in limbo, Azealia pull a bold move and reveals that body and hids her face. But, her body type-right. Can’t lie.

EXCLUSIVE: Talib Kweli Escapes The Prison Of The ‘Conscious Rapper’ Label With New Album

(AllHipHop News) “It’s about growth now. We have to grow, and that’s the point,” recites Talib Kweli on the call-and-response intro to his latest album Prisoner Of Conscious. Now on his 5th solo LP, Kweli seems to be on a mission to escape the confinement of labels.

P.O.C. still contains the Brooklyn emcee’s prolific lyrical talent that he has demonstrated since his debut on Black Star with Mos Def, but this time around Kweli has moved a way from the social-political themes of past projects in favor of a more personal approach to his songwriting. In order for Kweli to challenge himself as an artist and to reflect his reach as an international performer, this collection of work was created with a feel of universal relatability.

“On this album, the tracks I picked and the amount of live instrumentation I used was a little more focused on the world and me being a musician of the world rather than me just being a Hip-Hop artist from Brooklyn,” says Kweli.

Talib’s affection for diverse musical sounds is displayed with the electronic energy of “Upper Echelon,” the Afrobeat-inspired “High Life” featuring Massinfluence’s Rubix & Sierra Leonean Hip-Hop crew Bajah, and “Favela Love,” a collaboration with noted Brazilian musician/actor Seu Jorge.

While Prisoner of Conscious does take the listener around the globe, Kweli made sure to showcase a homegrown Hip-Hop and R&B accent as well. “Rocketships” gives Talib, and guest Busta Rhymes, an opportunity to tackle the dark, drum-heavy production of RZA from the Wu-Tang Clan. The New Yorker taps New Orleans native Curren$y and Los Angeles resident Kendrick Lamar for the tri-coastal “Push Thru” produced by Symbolyc One. Collaborations with Miguel, Melanie Fiona, Marsha Ambrosius, and Ryan Leslie bring a soulful flavor to their respective tracks.

In total, there are 13 credited featured artists on P.O.C. which is the most guest appearances for any Talib Kweli solo album. According to Kweli, his intention on 2002’s Quality, 2004’s The Beautiful Struggle, 2007’s Eardrum, and 2011’s Gutter Rainbows was to share his distinct vision, but after over 15 years in the game Kweli did not feel bound to only concentrating on his own perspective for this project.

“A lot of times with my solo albums, I’ve focused on making sure you really heard my voice, and this time I didn’t bother with that,” says Kweli. “Whenever I thought about wanting to work with someone I said, ‘let me just hit them up and let me see if they’d be into it.’ So I was a lot freer in the decision-making process than I’ve normally been.”

One collab that may surprise some longtime Kweli fans is the song “Before He Walked” with Nelly, but Kweli believes the St. Louis rapper’s verse could shock some listeners.

“I think it’s interesting, because people don’t usually get to hear Nelly being introspective,” says Kweli. “I think he’s a great musician, and I think people are going to really like what he contributed to the album.”

Beyond working with other musicians, Kweli has also enlisted the talents of visual artists. Prisoner Of Conscious’ physical packaging will include artwork from various painters, graphic designers, and photographers.

Prisoner Of Conscious

“The album cover is the back of a canvas that somebody would paint on. Inside the album cover are actual pieces of art that artists have done,” reveals Kweli. “It’s people’s different interpretations of what ‘prisoner of conscious’ means.”

The art component was curated by Jeff Staple of the highly successful creative consulting firm Staple Design. Kweli contacted Staple through Twitter about designing the cover for Prisoner Of Conscious. Eventually, Staple met with Kweli in the studio, and the two discussed their interpretations of the album’s title.

After realizing each had a different idea of what “prisoner of conscious” meant, Staple came up with the idea of letting different artists define the phrase in their own way. Allister Lee, Chris Mendoza, Eric Haze, Felicia Douglass, James Jean, Sophia Chang, and Chuck Anderson of No Pattern all contributed to the project.

“I chose artists that all have been greatly influenced by Hip-Hop and Kweli in particular,” says Staple. “The result is almost as if Kweli had given a brief to the artists and asked them to envision what a ‘prisoner of conscious’ looks like to them.”

In a way, P.O.C. is a new beginning for Kweli. The 37-year-old emcee has been working on the album for four years (some of the early recordings like “I’m On One” and “Cold Rain” ended up on Gutter Rainbows), and in that time he reunited with Hi-Tek for Revolutions per Minute, released a mixtape and album with Res as Idle Warship, and dropped the free solo project Attack the Block.

Even with that impressive amount of varied work added to his résumé recently, Kweli was still motivated to push himself beyond the “conscious rapper” tag constantly placed on him with Prisoner of Conscious.

“My music gives you a message, true and respect is due, but music is emotion that’s lost on the intellectuals,” raps Kweli on “Before He Walked.”

With Prisoner Of Conscious, Talib Kweli invites the scholar, the world traveler, the artist, the Hip-Hop head, the R&B fan, and every other member of the global community to his personal celebration of musical freedom.

Mister Cee: “I’m Not Gay”; Addresses Prostitution Incidents On Hot 97

(AllHipHop News) Over the weekend Mister Cee, a DJ at New York’s Hot 97 radio station, was arrested in Brooklyn for allegedly trying to solicit a prostitute. The prostitute turned out to be an undercover police officer, but according Cee the cop was women and not a man as previously reported.

“I am not gay,” Cee told his co-workers Peter Rosenberg, Cipha Sounds, Ebro, and K Foxx this morning on Hot 97. “I was approached by a female undercover cop.”

Cee went on to say that the original story reported by the New York Daily News cited that the cop was a women, but at some point the news reports changed to say the arresting officer was a man.

When Ebro and Rosenberg pointed out that the area where Cee was arrested in is known for the solicitation of transgender prostitutes Cee said it was just “dumb luck” that he was in that site at the time.

Cee admitted that he does regularly engage in soliciting female prostitutes and paying strippers for sex, but reinforced that he does not seek out men or transvestites.

“I have an addiction to not only prostitution. I have an addiction to getting the quickie,” said Cee.

This was not the first time Cee, born Calvin LeBrun, was arrested on sex related charges. In 2011, the 46-year-old was allegedly caught receiving oral sex from a 20-year-old man in a car. He pled guilty to loitering for the purpose of engaging in prostitution.

Cee suggested that the details of the 2011 incident were false, and he submitted a guilty plea in order to protect his family and Hot 97.

“There’s something as far as what has been built up,” said Cee. “If I was engaged in sexual activity with that person and that person’s case got simply dropped. And I had to go through what I had to go through, what does that tell you?”

At one point the conversation got very heated as Ebro and Cee went back and forth over why Cee continues to engage in illegal activity.

Throughout the interview Cee was asked constant questions about his sexuality and consistently maintained that while he is big supporter of the gay community he himself is not a homosexual.

“People have accused me of being gay for probably ten years now,” said Cee. “I don’t care what people think.”

Cee suspended himself from the radio. How that will play out remains to be seen.

Hip-Hop Rumor: Was Chris Brown Fighting On His Birthday?

Chris Brown is a trip. First of all, the word on the block is that he celebrated his birthday with his ex-girl Karrueche Tran. So that’s that.

But, the streets are talking also about a few tweets that Breezy sent out to lead people to believe that he was in some sort of encounter over the weekend as well.

“[A brother man] can’t even be happy on his birthday! I’m over trying to please y’all! I’m catching any FADES. On god! Im wit all the bulls**!” he tweeted.

It didn’t stop there. He continued:

“I’m personally so fu**ing tired of people it’s sick! Who made y’all god!!!! Society is fu**ing overrated and a bunch of followers.

Who peed in his champagne?

Not sure what happened, but something did and it definitely got him out of his zone for his 24th birthday. Rihanna was all the way in New York when all of this took place. I guess this also dashed to hell those rumors that she was going to buy him that crazy car for his birthday. OH WELL!

Hip-Hop Rumor: What Old School Rapper Is Dissing DJ Khaled!?!

WOW! KRS-One still out there raising a ruckus since the 80’s! I’m not exactly sure what the backstory is here, but apparently, DJ “We Da Best” aka DJ Khaled had some history with The Teacha. KRS one didn’t exactly go in on Khaled, but he certainly said something. Khaled is old enough to know all about KRS and possibly have been a disciple of some sort. Just like Rick Ross coming up under Erick Sermon back in the day. But, times have changed and now those dude are doing their own thing. Not, sure what KRS wants to “say” here, but check out the video and you tell me.

Here are the words to the video:

“We was hardcore Hip-Hop before Khaled….(crowd gasps) I know. I did Khaled’s first show/ He used to call it The Temple / We used to come over to mental / Them cats got rich / I don’t want to say cats switched / But all a sudden n***as got high-pitched / Florida ain’t with that s**t.”

I think its pretty clear, KRS is freestyling off the top of the dome. This ain’t no written. Is Ace Hood going to come back at the Bronx Bomber!? Doubt it.

Lauryn Hill Pays Tax Debt Early Without Money From Record Sales

(AllHipHop News)  That was quick. Less than two weeks after Lauryn Hill was ordered to pay back over $900,000 in federal back taxes as well as state taxes and penalties, the ex-Fugees member does just that according to her attorney.

In an email obtained by Reuters, Hill’s attorney Nathan Hochman states that Hill has paid her debt in its entirety:

“Ms Hill has not only now fully paid prior to sentencing her taxes, which are part of her criminal restitution, but she has additionally fully paid her federal and state personal taxes for the entire period under examination through 2009.”

Even after releasing a Tumblr blog post on Thursday(May 2nd) stating she “signed a new record deal, and that I did this to pay taxes” her attorney attests the funds used to make the tax payments were not from record sales. Hochman says the funds derived from a combination of sources and last month that Hill obtained a loan from two pieces of real estate.

Rappers React to Mayweather Victory; Lil’ Wayne and Kelly Rowland Perform

(AllHipHop News) It was a long night in Vegas and as predicted by many in the Hip-Hop world, Floyd “Money” Mayweather won by a unanimous decision against Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero last night at the MGM Grand.

Improving his record to 44-0, Floyd won in 12 rounds of boxing as he finessed and punished Guerrero with jabs, hooks and defensive tactics that wore out the younger Guerrero out.

While some boxing analysts questioned whether or not Floyd’s age and his recent incarceration would have an impact on the fight, Floyd held on to the Welterweight WBC Title in a decisive victory, silencing any critics that said he would be rusty.

To start the fight Mayweather was escorted into the ring by Lil’ Wayne who performed his song “No Worries” along side Floyds trainers, the TMT entourage and most importantly his father, Floyd Mayweather Sr.

Hip-Hop and R&B talent alike were in the building as Kelly Rowland sang the “National Anthem” for the United States.

Also in attendance were Rick Ross and Sean “Diddy” Combs, who were pictured in between rounds.

Throughout the fight Guerrero attacked Mayweather into the ropes, but everytime “Money” Mayweather danced circles around the frustrated Guerroro, countering with every shot that Guerrero landed.

“We did it again,” an exhausted Mayweather told reporters ring side. “I take my hat off to Robert Guerrero, he’s a true warrior.”

Throughout the final four rounds of the fight Guerrero was struggling to abate a cut over his eye that was caused by a fierce jab from Mayweather in the eighth round.

When Guerrero did get close to Floyd, he dodged Guerrero or the two often locked up and the judge had to separate the fighters, as Guerrero continued to take what Floyd called “rabbit punches” – punches to the back of the neck.

Three judges eventually scored the match 117-111, and while some booing fans were looking for the knockout, Floyd says that he hurt his right hand earlier in the fight and felt bad he was unable to get the KO for fans.

After the fight rappers rejoiced in Floyd’s predicted victory.

“Wow! I can’t believe it. Floyd Mayweather just won!” – Captain Obvious.” Chamillionaire said.

“Again I say…. Speed kills” Scarface Tweeted.

“One of the beat things about the great fight last night, was seeing Floyd Sr back were he belong in his son korner! #letswin!” said Tone Trump

“Floyd is remarkable S/O @LilTunechi for support our hit single commas @lepbogusboys and @masonbetha floyd got more commas tonight.” – the LEP Bogus Boys Tweeted.

The night was also lucrative for some rappers that bet thousands on Floyd winning the fight.

“I got 20 Bands on Floyd,” West Coast rapper YG Tweeted before the fight.

According to Golden Boy’s Richard Schaefer, Floyd’s next fights are potentially with Amir Khan, Danny Garcia or a rematch with Victor Ortiz, as he closes out his final five fights of his career.

Hip-Hop Rumor: What Will Mister Cee Say On Monday Morning?

All people keep asking me is will Mister Cee come out of the closet on Monday in this upcoming exclusive interview with his own company, Hot 97. Now, Hot 97 has been extremely supportive of Cee. Lil Wayne Comments On Gay NBA Player Jason Collins

(AllHipHop News) MTV caught up with Lil Wayne and got the rapper’s views on the revelation that NBA hooper Jason Collins is gay.

Lil Wayne kept his response terse and to the point, but made it clear that door have been opened for gays in sports sports.

“What it does for sports? It’s opening a lot of doors and it’s showing that it’s a fair world out there. Just to see how many people came to his support and things like that, that’s a pretty fair world out there. Be you.”

A$AP Rocky shared a similar opinion, but also took a moment to chide those men that stay in the closet hiding their true selves.

“That’s his business,” Rocky said in an interview with KYSDC radio in Washinton DC. “I respect men more for coming out. People joke on Frank Ocean a lot but at least he’s not out here fronting. It’s a lot of people, a lot of motherf*ckers be out here, they be the closet motherf*ckers, you know? I don’t respect them. I respect gay men who identify it and who are out with it. I don’t have a problem with gay people at all. So it’s like, that’s his business. It don’t concern me. Number one, I barely get to watch basketball like that as it is. Number two, I don’t even know who this n*gga is that you talking about. Dead a**. He probably has ten times more money than me but I don’t know who he is. We got the Frank Ocean of the NBA now who came out and did what he had to do. Shout-outs to him.”
