Richard Sherman addresses the “Black Lives Matter” movement bringing up black on black violence as an issue that needs to be solved first before “finger pointing.” Having grown up in South Central LA and having lost a close friend to violence this issue hits close to home for Richard Sherman. What are your thoughts? Comment below!
(AllHipHop News) The most open secret in the industry at the moment appears to be the forthcoming joint project from Drake and Future. After The Breakfast Club hinted about a Freebandz/OVO collab and DJ Skee kind of let the information out on Twitter, Hot 97’s Ebro is the latest industry insider to publicly address the speculation.
According to Ebro, the rumors of Drake and Future teaming up on music are true. He posted a message on Twitter confirming the information. Later Future sent out his own tweet with the same #FBGOVO used in Ebro’s post.
Drake is scheduled to perform in Future’s hometown of Atlanta this weekend as part of the Music Midtown festival. The occasion could be the opportunity for the duo to release the much-talked about collaboration.
After trending on Soundcloud in the R&B section the last month and getting over 400,000 plays on her song “Good Girl,” Noel Scales returns with the video for her widely successful song. The Philadelphia R&B artist is also an accomplished songwriter who has ghostwritten for several notable artists we can’t speak on. The super talented Scales presents a young fresh voice from the City of Brotherly Love and at just 24 years old, the future is very bright for this young talent.
(AllHipHop News) The collective social justice movement that has come to be known as Black Lives Matter was birthed out of the recent highly publicized killings of unarmed African-Americans by officers of the government.
The groups associated with Black Lives Matter have been under attack in recent months. Conservative commentators and police unions have accused BLM activists of inciting violence against law enforcement. Some people have even labeled the protest movement a “hate group.”
Maybach Music Group artist Wale did an interview with Revolt. The DMV area emcee was asked for his thoughts on Black Lives Matter.
Wale said:
I want Black lives to matter to Black lives more. I feel like we can only focus on what we focus on. Modifying the morale of the people starts within. It starts with us. It’s been easy to blame other people for stuff like that and point the finger. But Black lives should matter to Black lives.
I don’t really care about trying to rally up people for the wrong reasons. I want us to realize the power that we got within ourselves and to love ourselves more. This should really be the first objective as far as understanding the whole “black lives” thing. I don’t think we love ourselves enough as much as we used to.
(AllHipHop News) Hip Hop biopics have been a big deal this summer. Straight Outta Compton opened the flood gates to other possible projects including the Death Row movie Dogg Pound 4 Life. The casting for the film has already begun, but there is one more entertainer looking to get a role in the project.
During an interview with Mikey T The Movie Star, comedian Jack Thriller expressed his interest in portraying the late Nate Dogg in DP4L. Thriller also talked about getting a phone call from Death Row co-founder Suge Knight.
What about 50 Cent taking another crack at a semi-biographical motion picture? Thriller would not directly respond to the likelihood a second part to 2005’s Get Rich or Die Tryin’ could possibly be in the works, but he didn’t shut down the idea either.
“I ain’t gonna say what 50 Cent wanna see,” said the Thisis50 contributor. “I’ma leave it right there.”
(AllHipHop News) G-Unit’s newest member Kidd Kidd recently sat down with DJ Smallz Eyes. The discussion included the New Orleans native reflecting on being shot 6 times.
“For me it was more of a relief that I made it through it, because I knew it was coming,” said Kidd Kidd. “Once I was able to open my eyes and I knew I was still here, I knew I was going to recover and get well.”
It has been a big year for Kidd. He was named one of the XXL Freshman Class members for 2015. The former Young Money artist also joined his ex-boss on stage at Lil Wayne’s star-studded Lil Weezyana Fest last month. In addition, Kidd Kidd released his latest project F## Da Fame earlier this week.
Oftentimes the path to success takes unexpected turns. In the music business, acts throughout history have had to face the complications of the record label structure, which can include losing a deal that was thought to be the stepping stone to stardom.
How that person responds to the drawback is usually what determines the next step in their life. Do they just give up on their dreams? Or do they use that experience to gain knowledge on how to achieve those goals?
Atlanta-based rapper Issa Thompson signed to the now defunct Jive Records at just 16 years old. But once the label was shut down in 2011, Issa was left to reevaluate the direction of his career. He didn’t fold. For Thompson, it was about building something new out of the rubble left behind from Jive’s collapse.
“People think when you get a record deal your whole life changes. It’s a big misconception about that,” Issa tells AllHipHop.com. “I learned how the music industry goes. I learned how these labels work. I learned how it is when you come into a label and you don’t have much of a fan base. At the end of the day, it made me better, it made me stronger.”
While Issa did not have a large swarm of fans at the time he stepped into the Jive offices, he has since built a loyal base of supporters for his music. The completely independent artist’s Twitter account boasts over 94,000 followers, and his Instagram tops 128,000 followers.
Issa has been able to maintain and expand his base by exposing listeners to a wide variety of sounds. His mixtapes range from the street-centered King Issa to the explicitly conscious Lost Prophet to the Trap-influenced This Summer. The catalog comes together to present a central theme the young rhymer refers to as “Trap Conscious.”
“Since the beginning of my career, my music is just a powerful type music. It’s not all just dance, Trap, or party. I’ve always – since I started rapping – had messages in my music,” says Issa. “My real fans know everything I’ve done in the past and up to this year.”
The beginning of Issa’s turn toward making music began in Washington, DC. Around the age of 8, Issa asked his father to pen some lines for him to recite. Dad recognized a gift in his boy and began training him in the art of rap. Eventually, Issa took on the task of writing his own lyrics.
About four years later, Issa moved to Atlanta where he continued creating raps. He began working with different artists and producers in the city. He even teamed with ATL tastemaker DJ Holiday to host his tapes. The honor roll student also built a working relationship and personal friendship with singer/actor Jacob Latimore.
“Me and Jacob have been friends since I had my first record deal at 16 or 17. That’s like my little brother. You can expect me and Jacob to be working together for the rest of our careers. We’re family,” Issa states.
Latimore collaborations such as “Like Em All” and “Breathe” are examples of Issa’s ability to appeal to a female audience. But at the heart of what the entertainer is trying to express through his music is a much larger message.
Issa looks to one of the all time greats as the ideal symbol of what he wants to accomplish as an artist. Scroll through his IG page and you will find several photos of reggae icon Bob Marley. The thoughts communicated through classic Marley tunes such as “One Love” and “Get Up, Stand Up” should be where the nation and the world is headed, according to Issa.
“That’s my biggest inspiration spiritually. He represented revolution, and I’m a young revolutionary. I relate to a lot of his teachings,” says Issa about Marley. “I feel like his spirit supports me. What I represent is a lot of things that Bob Marley would talk about. He spoke not just for oppressed people, but he represented one love among all people, all races.”
Issa presented his own version of rebel music with the Don Cannon hosted Lost Prophet. Despite touching on timely social issues, the 2013 project was not as well received as Issa’s previous work.
“Lost Prophet was a very conscious mixtape. I think that’s why people overlooked it. It was too over their head. I don’t think people grabbed on to it. Especially, the youth,” he explains.
This Summer was a return to a more youth-friendly style. However, Issa has not completely left behind the idea of addressing relevant topics. He describes his recent record “Whips & Chains” as a spiritual release that needed to happen.
“I wanted to get that off my chest to let people know I’m not a slave to the jewelry or to the normal rap lifestyle – popping bottles, b*tches and all that stuff. I’m not a slave to any of those things. I’m rapping about it, because this is what ya’ll want to hear. This is what it is in the times that we live in,” explains Issa. “But on ‘Whips & Chains,’ I’m letting you know I have a conscious mind and I know what’s going on. I know they give us these cars and jewelry so we’ll shut the hell up and won’t talk about what’s real out here.”
“Whips & Chains” is ushering in Issa’s next project called No Rules. The January 2016 collection is set to be all revolutionary music. His approach was to adopt the trendy style of This Summer to reel in the public, and then hit them with more mindful music.
It’s similar to the way 2Pac dropped “I Get Around” and OutKast dropped “Ms. Jackson,” and then listeners uncovered Pac’s “Souljah’s Revenge” and Kast’s “Toilet Tisha” as well.
Issa provides details about No Rules, “It’s going back to that Lost Prophet kind of feel. Me being able to bounce back-and-forth is what makes me different from everybody. No other artist since 2Pac has been able to bounce back to talking about something in their music, and at the same time, I’m speaking for the streets and being the voice of the youth. Future is the voice of the streets. I’ll give him that. I’m talking about the voice for every different view and side.”
Some of Issa’s upcoming music will also offer his reflections on a serious situation that he was unfortunately connected to. In June, an Alabama man was arrested after he pretended to be Issa on Facebook in order to sexually assault women.
Even though he was not directly involved in the incidents, Issa felt the need to apologize to his fans. He attempted to contact the victims, but because the case is still open he was not able to reach out to the women directly. It appears the ordeal still troubles him at times. Again, he hopes that something positive will come from such as negative circumstance.
“I’m not saying it needed to happen, but the incident brought light to the fact people are impersonating other people for all the wrong reasons. It’s sending a message to young people to be more aware to what’s happening on social media,” says Issa. “People get catfished all the time, but I don’t think it’s ever been a situation that has been this harsh where two girls got raped. I feel horrible that it had to be my name, but all I can do is rise above it. I know that God won’t give me nothing that I can’t handle.”
Issa hopes other young people become more aware of the dangers of interacting with strangers online. Beyond that, there are more lessons Thompson wants to be part of sharing with the people. The Good Life Music Group performer is looking to use his status as an artist to contribute to the overall lifting of consciousness among the Millennial generation.
“There’s so much stuff our youth needs to hear from somebody like me. J. Cole and Kendrick are giving it to you, but I’m talking about someone coming out of Atlanta and speaking to the youth. It’s a new voice,” declares Issa.
Issa’s On A Mission Is To Shine Light Onto The Dark
Fetty Wap inspired a 10-year-old boy from Denver, CO to stop wearing his prosthetic eye, which prompted his mother to write a thoughtful thank you letter to the New Jersey rapper on social media. The “679” rapper took the time to respond to Brenda Vaden’s post about her son, Jayden, via Instagram.
Jayden Vaden was diagnosed with retinoblastoma after his first birthday and had have an eye removed. He wore a prosthetic eye all his life until he caught a glimpse of Fetty Wap, who was born with glaucoma and had to have an eye removed also.
Fetty has been having quite the summer. Besides having four singles place onto the Billboard 100 chart, he also received the key to his hometown of Paterson, NJ. His debut album is due in stores Sept. 25th.
It looks like Drake and Serena Williams are still going strong. Drake was spotted supporting his boo at her NYFW show. Drake also posted a photo of him and Anna Wintour with the caption, “Me and bae.” Serena wasn’t here for it, and even gave 65-years-old Wintour and Drake those emoji hands. We’d have to say this is still awkward.
Apparently Kanye West’s Yeezy Season 2 NYFW show was so bad and awkward, as well as the apparel, that a model couldn’t even wait to light one up. Ye what is this homeless chic, ripped American Apparel mess you are selling for ridiculous prices?
Travi$ Scott has been riding high since the release of his debut album, Rodeo. As he hit the stage at various events to promote the project, Rihanna was often spotted in the background, which sparked dating rumors. They were also spotted together during New York Fashion Week and they even co-starred in the latest Puma ad. There was a subliminal post on RiRi’s Instagram claiming that she was single but when Scott visited ESPN’s Highly Questionable, hosts Dan Le Batard and Bomani Jones couldn’t help but to probe further.
Though he didn’t confirm the rumors, he didn’t deny them either as he nervously laughed and fidgeted as he struggled to answer the question.
Former Danity Kane members Aubrey O’Day and Shannon Bex claim Diddy milked them for millions, and all they were left with is a pile of debt. When asked about why they didn’t get rich off of 2 platinum albums, Shannon replied, “We were signed to Diddy.” Well the duo is recording independently now. Maybe they will have success as Dumblonde.
There’s clearly some miscommunication between the camps of T.I and Iggy Azalea. During a sit down on the “Ebro in the Morning” show yesterday (Sept.16), Tip spoke on why he decided to distance himself musically from his mentee Iggy Azalea. Now, it is reported that the “Black Widow” rapper was reportedly caught off guard by those comments and was under the impression that they were still working together.
“She didn’t know there was a problem since T.I. is still collecting publishing checks and acting like everything is normal between them,” said a source close to her.
Tip said he decided to part ways with Iggy after Q-Tip schooled her on hip-hop history 140 characters at a time.
I’m a loyal partner and if I rock with you I’m going to rock with you. If we right, wrong, we’ll discuss that in the car. We going to get out of here right now, though. That’s just how I am. Right now I’m going to block the bullets, now go. Now when I say ‘Go’ [really] go. Don’t stand around and talk while I’m blocking bullets. You slowing me down.”
Lil’ Wayne & Christina Milian recently broke up due to not having enough time for each other. However it looks like the short-lived couple isn’t breaking up in every department. Lil’ Wayne will still be helping Christina with her album and its promotion. Supposedly neither party wants to derail her album. This isn’t the first time Christina worked with an ex; The Dream helped her after his cheating scandal.
After the success of the Straight Outta Compton biopic, Universal Studios is looking to create another film regarding the early days of hip-hop. According to Deadline, a biographical film about the rise of Def Jam Records and Russell Simmons may be on the way.
Though nothing is set in stone, it is reported that the movie would be based on Life and Def: Sex, Drugs, Money, + God, a book co-written by Simmons and Nelson George in 2002. Michael B. Jordan could be filling the role of Simmons while Jonah Hill is a possible fill-in for Rick Rubin. The film will reportedly tell the story of the early days of Def Jam and depict how hip-hop grew to become a powerful genre and culture.
In case you didn’t know, T.I has severed professional ties with his protege Iggy Azalea. During a visit to Hot 97’s “Ebro in the Morning” show, he discussed what prompted the musical split.
Tip revealed that he parted ways with the Aussie rapper “after the Q- Tip thing.” He’s referring to the lengthy hip-hop lesson Q-Tip gave Azalea via Twitter after she began getting slammed for cultural appropriation.
“After I kind of had smoothed it over and was like ‘Okay, what was really meant to be said here is’ … Then everything was cool and they kind of came back and undid what I just did,” he said. “I’m a loyal partner and if I rock with you I’m going to rock with you.
Iggy is reportedly working on her sophomore project, but has remained quiet and out of the spotlight. Her public appearances have been limited and she decided to let her team manage her social media accounts.
T.I is also gearing up for a new release. He dropped Da Nic EP earlier this week and will releasing his tenth studio album, The Dime Trap soon as well.
