Makonnen Sides With Sauce Walka In Drake Diss

Man, when I heard Sauce Walka diss Drake, I said, “They spelled Waka Flocka’s name wrong!” Then, I realized I didn’t know anything. Sauce went in on Drake. But, that is not why we here. I thought Drake and big boy Makonnen were cool. But now we know this cannot be fact due to one word that appears in the Wack 2 Wack diss. “Drip.” Makonnen let it be known where he stands.

Anyway, listen to “Wack 2 Wack” again.

Even @Norm jumped in on the fun.

LoVel – “Backseat Memories” (EP)

Harlem-based R&B artist LoVel gained serious attention earlier this year with the Fetty Wap-assisted burner, “The Move.” While that track inches closer to one million streams, LoVel delivers a wavy and thrilling new free-release with, Backseat Memories.

Save for two features (from Justin Rose and Maxxx Flair), the majority of this eight-track EP is a pure demonstration of LoVel’s talents. And they’re on full display as soon as Backseat Memories gets things started with “Show Off,” a vocals-first joint that sways and subtly bounces over light keys and drums. Another instant is standout “Personal,” a psychedelic swim through the innermost thoughts of a man trying to get out of a relationship because he knows she deserves better. It also transitions smoothly into what feels like a post-breakup night of debauchery in “All That,” which includes a more direct vocal turn from LoVel—yes, the man can rap, too.

Despite an evident mixture of emotions, Backseat Memories’ sonic focus remains strong and superbly cohesive. Sure enough, you can thank LoVel for that, as he and Lee Al-Taquan (who together form The Hittas) produced the entire EP. Each track on here is connected to one another, allowing the listener to jump around without the feeling that they’re listening to a completely different artist. It’s a rare notion at a time when so many others are trying to appeal to everyone. Instead, LoVel’s carved out a lane for himself, and it’s a musical trip well worth taking; just make sure you have a designated driver.

Backseat Memories is now available for free download, courtesy of AudioMack…enjoy!

Lil Rel Howery Talks The Carmichael Show, Failed In Living Color Reboot + MORE

Lil Rel Howery plays Bobby Carmichael on NBC’s The Carmichael Show, which was recently renewed for its second season. His stand up special Kevin Hart Present’s Lil Rel Howery RELevent” aired earlier this month on Comedy Central. Rel spoke exclusively with AllHipHop about working on The Carmichael Show, the failed In Living Color reboot, which rapper should make a sitcom based on their lives and much more.

Back in Spring 2012, FOX was reportedly working on a reboot for In Living Color involving new comedians working with the series’ legendary cast. However, nine months later, Keenen Ivory Wayans, the show’s creator, said the planned reboot was no longer coming out. Wayans stated the original cast members, which include Jim Carrey, Jamie Foxx and others, were “all aboard if I wanted them to do something on the show.” But according to Wayans “the level of talent required doesn’t exist.” Lil Rel was one of the comedians involved and according to him it wasn’t the new talent that was the problem, it was the veterans:

“Originally, the new people Keenen picked and the old cast would do sketches together. So imagine reading scripts of Homie the Clown and literally, the first day of taping that’s when all the vets decided not to do it. For whatever reason, I’ll never know. It was one of the funnest time I ever had. Working with Keenan Ivory Wayans was a dream come true.”

Rel’s been in the comedy game long enough to spot talent when he sees it. According to Rel, 50 Cent would be the perfect rapper to star in his own sitcom:

“He should do a sketch show where he can do Floyd Maywewather. Or do a show spoofing himself like Larry David did. Know what I mean? I thought about that one day. Do you know how funny that would be? 50 Cent doing a Curb [Your Enthusiasm]-type show?”

You can catch Lil Rel Howery every Wednesday on NBC’s The Carmichael Show at 9:30 P.M EST.

HEATER OF THE DAY: Lexz Pryde Ft. Snoop Dogg & Blade Brown – “Motivate”

Hip-Hop icon Big Kap and music veteran Big Phil Gates team up with 47th&7th Media to promote new singer Lexz Pryde and her single Motivate ft. Snoop Dogg from her upcoming EP Cyberspace.

It’s not every day that an emerging artist has a chance to make a song with an established music legend. Often, the opportunity can be a vehicle to help gain valuable credibility and visibility. But when a song’s theme runs parallel with an artist’s struggle, success almost seems destined.

Such is the story of Motivate, the song artist Lexz Pryde envisions as “the catalyst for a movement with a mission to inspire people to pursue their dreams despite obstacles.” According to Lexz, the obstacles she had to overcome to make Motivate’s release a reality made her realize what success really is- it’s staring defeat in the face and still charging forward. This is the impact she wants “Motivate” to have on listeners, you CAN achieve your dreams. The video, which features Snoop Dogg, Blade Brown and street artist Styler Grey is living proof that dreams can come true. “Motivate iz not just a song.. It’z a movement,” confesses Lexz.

A chance meeting with music heavyweights Gates and Big Kap helped catapult Lexz into the spotlight. Since linking up with Gates, she has performed alongside DJ Self at the trendy No. 8. The NYFW Event, sponsored by Bartholomew Gold, Ranbeeri Denim, Denim Vodka and Jahlookova, drew celebrities from every walk of life. This summer, Lexz has also performed in South Korea, Croatia, and Ibiza, plus she will debut her new sound in Tokyo with Ultra Music Festival. Not a bad start for the pop sensation.
