T.I On Iggy Azalea: ‘That’s Still My Partner’

After an interview on Hot 97, many were under the impression that T.I had distanced himself from his mentee Iggy Azalea. The “Fancy” rapper was reportedly blindsided by those comments and then took to Twitter to not only clarify that she was still signed to Grand Hustle but to also say how displeased she was that Tip would discuss any feelings he had about their musical relationship on the radio. T.I is now clearing the air.

“That’s still my partner,”  Tip told the AP. ”Her life has taken her in a different direction. My life is still as it was before. But Iggy is doing what she feels makes Iggy happy. That’s what she should do. We’re focused on making the next Iggy record and dodge the same adversities we faced last time.”

The Paperwork rapper said that he never stopped working with her, he only distanced himself from her after her situation with Q-Tip because she was enduring a lot of criticism.

“It’s definitely not a ‘sever my ties, walk away, I’m upset’ thing,” he said. “It was more so like, OK, you have a lot on your plate right now. I’m going to pull back or wait until you come to a place where you’re ready to come back to the table, so we can start again and make history some more.”

Peter Rosenberg Debates The Source’s Londell McMillan Over “Power 30” Rankings (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Whenever publications release rankings there is always someone that takes issue with where he or she is placed on the list. That doesn’t just go for artists. Hot 97 radio personality Peter Rosenberg questioned The Source owner/publisher Londell McMillan about his place on the magazine’s Power 30 DJ rankings.

McMillan and Brooklyn rapper Maino stopped by Ebro In The Morning for an interview. The discussion eventually turned to Rosenberg’s placement at number 24 on the radio figures list.

The Source somehow collectively decided there were 23 DJs whose voice is more impactful than mine – which I found shocking – including DJs in Tulsa, Oklahoma,” said Rosenberg. “And last year my voice wasn’t on the list at all.”

McMillan attempted to explain the Power 30 list is not about the most powerful voices in the culture. He mentioned the criteria for selection is based on the DJ’s ratings, influence, and a market adjustment.

“When I say market adjustments, it’s like the NBA lottery. If you lose, you get a little higher rating,” stated McMillan. “Of course the markets matter, but just because you’re in a dope market doesn’t necessarily mean you should jump over a cat that’s in a smaller market that controls a community.”

After adding he felt it was unfair that Hot 97 host DJ Enuff has repeatedly been left off the Power 30, Rosenberg also argued his own status allows him to have a greater influence on Hip Hop culture than certain DJs in smaller markets.

McMillan responded, “A lot of people profess power who are really standing behind the machine. But when you move the machine and we gotta go toe-for-toe, we see how your power goes.”

“For a lot of people that me be true, but I’m talking about me,” replied Rosenberg.

T.I. Parted Ways With Columbia Records?

Maybe all this confusion around T.I. and Iggy’s business relationship (or lack of relationship) has something to do with the fact the ATL rapper is no longer part of the major label corporate complex (see: Iggy Azalea Says She’s Still Signed To T.I., Takes Issue With Him Speaking In Public).

Hits Daily Double is reporting The King Of The South is done with his situation over at Columbia Records.

“Having just exited my deal at Columbia, I was a rogue artist, busting creativity, just waiting to put music in the marketplace,” T.I. is quoted as saying. “So while I’m sorting out my next situation, I’m blessed enough to be able to control my destiny and put music out as quickly as I want to.”

Tip just dropped a surprise indie EP called Da Nic through Empire Distribution. That’s the same company that has handled releases from Kendrick Lamar, N.O.R.E, Tyga, Snoop, and others. Up next is the full album The Dime Trap coming fourth quarter.

Mick Jenkins Says XXL Consistently Gets It Wrong With Freshmen Cover List (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Every year fans of the culture debate about which emcees were snubbed on XXL‘s coveted Freshmen Class list. For 2015, Mick Jenkins was often named as one person that rightfully deserved to be on the magazine’s cover.

Jenkins gained a lot of attention for his critically acclaimed 2014 mixtape The Water[s]. The success of the project – as well as signing to Cinematic Music Group (Big K.R.I.T, Joey Bada$$) and going on tour with Method Man and Redman – had many people expecting him to be one of the 10 picks for the ’15 Freshmen Class.

The Chicago representative was recently interviewed by Montreality, and he was asked about the XXL omission. Mick made it clear he felt the publication got it wrong with some of its choices.

“I think there’s a ton of people who deserved to be there based on what they did last year, and I think there’s some people who don’t,” said Jenkins. “It’s been shown to us every year that it’s not based on what we think it’s based on. It’s not based on just talent. It’s not based on just popularity. It’s not based on what it should be, for sure. It’s not really a surprise when things don’t turn out how they should.”

The “Dehydration” rhymer went on to say that he does not really care that much about being on the cover. Jenkins is more concerned about connecting with his fans. His followers can hopefully expect his album [T]he [H]ealing [C]omponent to hit stores by next summer.

The short film features interviews with the “U Mad” rapper and various childhood friends. Viewers get to visit the SAVEMONEY headquarters and Mensa’s former neighborhood of Hyde Park.

“SAVEMONEY – the founding principle is do it yourself… Build some sh*t from the ground up – that’s just what Hip Hop is,” says Mensa.

He adds, “It’s possible you know. And that’s a manifesto if I ever want one. It’s just to let these kids know its f*cking possible.”

The Fader‘s “Video Cover Story” is a monthly documentary series that highlights various artist the publication would typically consider for a cover story. Down To Start A Riot was directed by Aaron Brown of Focus Creeps and produced by Joseph Patel, Robert Semmer, and Scott Perry.

“We came up with this idea to support our growing platform,” states Patel. “We have so many different ways to tell the stories we want to tell. We know how much artists and fans covet the cover of The Fader, so we created another, engaging, highly visual way to champion artists we want to champion.

Are Wayne, Baby and Young Thug All Good Now?

The first song on the new mixtape by Young Thug features Lil Wayne….

Nobody is saying a bunch, but inquiring minds are asking a bit of this and a bit of that. Folks believe it is possible that the trio may have found an amicable resolution. Then, they could have just had an old Wayne verse lying around. But…not a peep. Now…the silence can mean nothing or it could be “saying something” we can’t quite hear. Remember, this year these dudes have been beefing pretty heavily and Thugger has been doing a lot to f**k with Wayne like trying to call his album Carter 6. This is probably nothing since the song was previously released last year. BLAH!

Check out the mixtape.

Future – “The Percocet & Stripper Joint”

One of, if not the hottest artists in the game right now drops off another set of visuals, this go around it’s for one of the most popular cuts off his latest album, “The Percocet & Stripper Joint”. The Atlanta rapper shows no signs of slowing down at this point and we might just get videos for the whole album at this rate. If you are one of the few who don’t already own “DS2”, we recommend you go pick that up, available now.

Brandon Tyler World – “All Hail Kendrick”

We often see tribute songs come along by those who grew up listening and being inspired by artists who embody the word legendary. As TDE’s unofficial front man, Kendrick Lamar, has progressed, so has his status in the game. Arguably one of the best lyricists the game has seen in a while, K Dot has inspired another mind, in Alabama’s own Brandon Tyler World. The young emcee has left an open invite for the charasmaticly viscous Lamar to jump on and drop his own words of wisdom. Will he bite? I guess only time will tell. Check out more of Brandon right here!

Nas Is Ready To Drop The Lost Tapes 2

It looks like Nas’ long-awaited return will be a collection of old songs in the form of The Lost Tapes 2.

The rap don put out the original Lost Tapes album in 2012 and it is widely regarded as a classic. Now, Def Jam seeks to replicate that in 2016.

Peter Bittenbender, CEO of Mass Appeal, made the proclamation in a recent interview with Drip. The Lost Tapes 2 was originally set to come out in 2012, but never dripped. Bittenbender also stated that Nas would be dropping an album of new material too.

“Nas is working to deliver this next record to Def Jam, which will be his last [for them]. I haven’t been too involved in that, so I can’t tell you when it’s coming. Once that’s out, then Lost Tapes will follow shortly after. It’ll definitely be a 2016 release, hopefully earlier in the year than later. The music’s amazing. It carries on what he built with the first Lost Tapes. The fans are gonna love it,” Bittenbender told Drip.
