50 Cent has reportedly fallen on hard times. After being deemed as one of hip-hop’s cash kings for almost a decade, Fif filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy on July 13, according to reports. He reportedly has assets and debts that range between $10 and $50 million.
After a judge ruled that he pay Rick Ross’ ex, Lastonia Leviston, $5 million for intentionally releasing a sextape of her and being ordered to payout $17.2 million to Sleek Audio after it was determined he ripped off one of their designs, the “I Got Money” rapper is short on cash.
The G-Unit general filed for bankruptcy just two months after he ranked at no. 4 on the Forbes Five list, which listed the wealthiest people in hip-hop. His estimated net worth was $155 million thanks to his business ventures with SMS Audio, Effen Vodka, SK Energy and Frigo underwear.
Two weeks after its release, Meek Mill’s sophomore debut, Dreams Worth More Than Money, is still holding the no. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart. The project has now sold 307,000 copies, selling an additional 61,000 copies after moving 246,000 its first week, Billboard reports.
DWMTM, which is the “Monster” rapper’s first no. 1 album, is already on its way to performing better than his 2012 debut, Dreams and Nightmares, which sold 165,000 its first week and ended up only selling 414,000 units. It is also the fourth best selling album of 2015 besidesKendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly, Drake’s If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late and Mumford and Son’s Wilder Mind.
Papoose is on pace to have the biggest year of his career as he expands his brand into new arenas. The Brooklyn rapper and his wife Remy Ma have signed on to join the next season of the hit show Love & Hip Hop: New York. The extra exposure on VH1’s reality series will surely draw new followers to the couple, but the TV drama is not side tracking Pap from his first love of making music.
The Bed-Stuy emcee is all set to drop his sophomore studio album You Can’t Stop Destiny this week. The follow-up to 2013’s well received The Nacirema Dream includes features from Remy, Troy Ave, Ty Dolla Sign, AG, Maino, and Red Cafe. Papoose also recruited production wizards DJ Premier, Ron Brownz, Havoc, Showbiz, DJ Tip, G.U.N. Productions, and Gemcrates to provide the soundscape for YCSD.
AllHipHop.com spoke with Papoose about his new project and more. In part one of the exclusive interview, the independent artist shares his thoughts on the “New York Hip Hop sound” and his claims of being a better lyricist than fellow BK representative Jay Z.
Can you talk about the concept for the album title? Was there any particular message you’re trying to convey with this project?
Yeah, definitely. Just sending the message out that you might have ambitious goals to accomplish and certain people may try to get in your way. That message is there on a positive note. For those other people that are on the hating side, you can’t stop destiny.
Whatever you’re destined to be in life, you’re going to be that. Can’t nobody prevent that. That’s basically the message of the album and the title – regardless of who or what, you can’t stop destiny.
How old are you in the picture on the cover?
I was about 13 years old in that picture, around 13 ½.
I think the image conveys the message you were just saying – seeing you as a teenager and then knowing where your life would go.
Right, you can see when I was young, I was still on my Hip Hop sh*t. That’s what I was destined to do. At the end of the day, can’t nobody stop that.
Speaking of Hip Hop sh*t, I listened to the album. For me, it’s always cool to hear DJ Premier’s scratches on a record. A lot of people consider him one of the greatest – if not the greatest – Hip Hop producers ever. You guys have worked together before. What is it like working with him?
It’s an honor. growing up as a fan of Hip Hop, it was always one of my dreams to work with Premier. I wouldn’t have done an album without having him on it. He was on my first album, so I wouldn’t do an official project without having him part of it.
I feel like you had to be a high caliber emcee to get a Premier track. You had to be really nice. That’s what he always represented to me. A real, true emcee with a real official producer coming together. For me, Prem is the East Coast Dr. Dre.
You also released the track “Mobbing” with Troy Ave. Havoc produced that track. There’s three NYC reps on that song, and each one kind of represents a different era. You have Havoc from the 90’s, you came up in the 2000’s, and Troy Ave who represents the 2010’s.
We’ve seen a lot of New York City collaborations in recent years. Even Troy had several NYC rappers on his new album. In the prior decade, it felt like the city was competing against each other. Some people believe that’s why the south rose at that point.
First and foremost, I think great music is timeless. It’s not that Havoc represents an era, I represent a different era, and Troy Ave represents a different era. You get put in that time capsule when you have a limit to your music. I feel like if you’re great at it, that sh*t is timeless. A Havoc beat is timeless. It can play now, back then, and in the future. The same with myself and Troy Ave.
I don’t think because artists weren’t collaborating is why other regions got in position. I think other regions got in position because the people that are in power in our city wanted to be followers. When you go to those other regions – the weather, the food, and the music you hear makes you feel like you’re in that city.
When you come to New York – the weather and the food make you feel like you’re in New York. But when you turn on the radio it makes you feel like you’re in the south. You see how that works? That’s just the truth.
When I’m in [Atlanta], I feel like I’m in the A. When I’m on the West Coast, I go get some Roscoe’s, I enjoy that good weather, and I turn on the radio and hear West Coast music. In New York we lost that. Some people who were in positions of power started following. And not just the radio, some of the artists started rapping like they’re from other regions.
That’s cool. We all have to support each other across the globe, but we can’t lose the foundation of who we are. We still have to support our own, and I think that’s where it’s f*cked up at. It affected everybody. The clubs, the DJs, everybody took a hit, because n*ggas weren’t supporting their own.
A$AP Rocky did an interview where he was saying he doesn’t necessarily know if there is even a “New York sound” anymore, because of the internet and people’s ability to hear styles from all over the world. Do you think there is even a “New York sound” anymore?
Hell yeah, it’s a New York sound. As time goes on, it’s young New Yorkers coming up who give you that feeling of being in New York. Of course, there’s a New York sound.
It’s cool to be versatile. You gotta be versatile. But the foundation of what you are when you’re talking in your interviews, you can’t fake that. These dudes imitate down to the tee. It’s not just about music. It’s everything as a package.
Of course, there’s a New York sound. Bobby Shmurda had a New York sound. When you heard Bobby Shmurda, you heard Brooklyn. He put a little twist to it, but he still had a New York feel. You heard the New York slang. These cats are sounding like they’re straight from somewhere else.
You don’t gotta be super lyrical to have a New York sound, but you can still have that New York feel to it. When somebody from New York hears it or someone from out of town that’s been here, they identify it as, “Wow, that’s that New York sh*t.” There’s always gonna be a New York sound.
I was listening to the “Illuminati” track. You didn’t mention any names on there. But in my view, it felt like some of those lines were directed at Jay Z. Especially knowing that you’ve have had some things to say about him in the past.
None of that is accurate though. If you look at the Vlad situation, I never said nothing about him wearing the 5% medallion. I said that’s a good thing that he’s wearing that. I said we embrace that. But when we have these “Show & Prove” events every year for the kids in the neighborhood, I would love to see him out there.
“Show & Prove” is an event Nation of Gods does where kids come out and have a good time. Artists come out like myself, Kay Slay, and the list goes on. We had one at the Apollo, and a lot of artists came out.
Did you or anyone in the Five-Percent Nation have a conversation with him?
What I’m saying is, I said I would love to see him there. If you’re wearing the flag, I would assume you know what’s going on within the cypher. I would assume you would at least take interest and find out what’s being done on the productive side of it. I didn’t say we had a problem with him. I said we embrace that.
As far as me taking shots at him, I did an interview. At the very end of the interview the guy’s asking me, “Do you think you’re the best?” I said, “Of course I am.” Who’s not gonna say they’re the best?
He said, “Do you think you’re better than a lot of rappers?” I said, “Yeah.” He asked, “Even Jay Z?” I said, “Yeah.” So he only took that one part of the interview, and made that the headline. When he made that the headline, everybody went crazy like, “Ooh, he said he’s better than Jay Z.” It wasn’t even about him.
That’s when I made the track [“Current Events”] where I rapped, “I said I’m better than Jigga, cause I’m better than Jigga.” You’re supposed to have that confidence and be competitive. People can take it how they wanna take it. I don’t sit around and think about Jay Z. I don’t give a f*ck about that. I’m focusing on my endeavors.
Over the weekend, Drake and Oliver El-Khatib launched the OVO Sound Radio on Apple Music. For the first installment, a few exclusive tracks were played from Drake and newcomer Roy Woods.
On “Sweeterman” and “Drama” Drake slows it down and leaves the bars behind for some smoother vocals.
Rihanna’s navy is full of die hard fans but one man in particular has taken his obsession with the Bajan beauty too far. Police are now tracking a man who has been stalking Rih and recently threatened her via social media, according to TMZ.
The man, who goes by Ralph Alexander and Alex Mercer, is being tracked through his social media accounts, phone records and computer. Police almost caught him on April 30th when he snapped a selfie in front of the “BBHMM” singer’s home but when they arrived he was gone. The next day, he posted a threatening via Twitter saying “Should of killed @rihanna a minute back I would be good right now. Sorcery is a weapon I use guns, bout to get a gun license, can’t use my hands.”
Take a look at the pic and a few tweets below.
Imma marry @rihanna Lord willing s#omebody might die or somethin
(AllHipHop News) Tyga has expressed he is not bothered by the low sale numbers for his latest project The Gold Album: 18th Dynasty, but it seems the head of Cash Money is not too pleased about the roll out of the LP. According to TMZ, Birdman is p##### that Tyga released TGA for free on music streaming platforms.
Our sources say the Cash Money honcho thinks Tyga sunk his album — which sold just 2,200 copies in its first week — because everyone could listen to the songs for free. By comparison, Tyga’s last record sold nearly half a million copies.
Insiders also tell TMZ Birdman believes the California rapper was trying to pull a “stunt” in order to get out of his contract with Cash Money. Apparently, the label is not counting The Gold Album as an official release, so Tyga still owes the company one more album.
Drake was also caught up in a contractual dispute with Cash Money over an “album” release. In February, Datpiff.com’s Kyle “KP” Reilly confirmed Drake and CMR agreed instead of dropping If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late as a free mixtape it would be released as anofficial Drake album under his contract.
“It was a mutual decision since he wanted to give it away,” said Reilly. “[The label] said, ‘Hell no,’ not in those words, so they ‘agreed’ to do it this way as a middle ground and it would count towards his Cash Money deal album total.”
(AllHipHop News) When new reports emerged showing Bill Cosby admitted to giving women Quaaludes in order to have sex with them, many of his supporters finally turned on the comedy legend. Even staunch ally Jill Scott stopped backing Cosby.
Another famous music artist still has an issue with the public response to the allegations Cosby raped numerous women. Chuck D expressed his thoughts on the controversy on Twitter.
The Public Enemy member made it clear he was not defending The Cosby Show creator, but Chuck did address the call to remove Cosby’s likeness from television and public spaces such as the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. Read Chuck D’s tweets below.
No way Im defending Cosby. But this wiping history out wit a swoop is akin to Nazi book burning.Context is everything.PhilSpector still plays
(AllHipHop News) Cash Money Records and Money Mack have reportedly settled a lawsuit with former artist Turk. The Advocate reports the two sides came to an out-of-court agreement which led to Turk asking his suit be dismissed. A judge granted Turk’s dismissal request on June 30.
Complete terms of the settlement have not been released, but both sides agreed to pay their own legal costs and fees. Turk was originally seeking $1.3 million for unpaid royalty and publishing payments.
Now that the case is behind him, Turk can put his full attention back into his music career. The New Orleans native is set to join fellow Hot Boys members Lil Wayne and Juvenile at the “Lil Weezyana Fest” in August. The head of YNT Empire also recently released the new track “I Remember” featuring Sy Ari Da Kidd.
Man, the interwebs are hot this morning with rumors that the issues between Lil Wayne and Birdman got heated over the weekend. Footage of Wayne performing at a club hit the net, but people are saying somebody at the venue threw something at Weezy while he was on stage.
Social media was lit with talk a bottle or drink came from the hand of Birdman. Other people are saying it wasn’t actually the Cash Money founder that threw the object, but it was someone from his entourage.
This is kind of crazy since Wayne just announced he’s trying to bring his hometown of New Orleans together at a Tidal concert next month. He even ended his beef with Baby’s other former protegé Young Thug.
(AllHipHop News) Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump does not seem to be toning down his rhetoric about illegal immigration. After calling Mexican immigrants “criminals” and “rapists,” the former star of The Apprentice continued with his attacks this weekend.
Trump pointed to the prison break of drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman as an example of Mexico allowing criminal elements to come to the United States. The billionaire businessman took to Twitter to blast the Mexican government and offer an “I told you so” to his critics.
One American rap star also jumped on Twitter to offer some advice to Trump. MMG artist Meek Mill suggested the real estate magnate should not mess with El Chapo.
Donald trump better take it easy talking crazy about #ELCHAPO that's a different ball game! #leavehimalone
Crawling through a mile-long tunnel, El Chapo was able to escape from a maximum security prison outside of Mexico City on Saturday. Authorities suspect he was aided by workers at the facility.

(AllHipHop News) New York rapper Chinx life was cut short in May before the 31-year-old was able to break out as a major star. According to Jack Thriller, the Coke Boys affiliate was set to be featured on a major television platform before his death.
In an interview with Mikey T The Movie Star, the Atlanta born comedian revealed he was in the process of helping Chinx appear on Nick Cannon’s MTV2 comedy improv show Wild ‘N Out. Thriller is a cast member on the series.
“The first time I ever met him was on my first episode of Wild ‘N Out three years ago,” said Thriller. “He was asking me to get him on this season of Wild ‘N Out, and I had hit Nick [Cannon] up about the sh*t too. Nick was gonna put him on this season of Wild ‘N Out.”
Over the weekend, the DC Comics Nation sent dropped an atomic bomb at San Diego Comic con with the release of the official trailer to Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. After watching it a couple thousand times, along with the millions of others, I have come to find a few things (along with the rest of the world). This is what I have concluded – check it out!
1) Yes, it looks as if it will be epic. Look at the trailer again.
2) Batman Will Be Brooding and Brooding and Brooding…
Batman has always been the darkest, acclaimed character DC has produced and “Batman vs Superman: Dawn Of Justice” will be a broodfest. Check the pictures out.
“MF…I can brood!”
2.5) Robin is dead.
The Joker is around the corner. Believe that.
2.5) Superman Will Be Brooding Too
Even as Clark Kent…I’m moody!
3) Batman Will Kick A$$!
If you know comics, you know that Batman has the capability to beat Superman. How this will play out in BVS remains to be seen.
//
4) Wonder Woman Will F**k Sh!it up!
WW is probably the most exciting aspect to BVS! Can’t wait to see how they set her up.
5) Superman the mutant?
I am an admitted Marvel Head so perhaps my biases are coming out. I have crazy love for Batman as a character and have learned to live with Superman. However, this storyline of Superman as the alien feels very much like the premise of mutants in the Marvel Universe. Growing up, I’ve never known Superman to be anything but a friend of the people. Batman was the controversial one. The trailer suggests that Batman will become the hero and Supes the subject of scorn.
5.5) Superman the god?
I can’t with this exploration of Superman as a god..and the evil? Pick one!
6) DC will again…delve into Batman’s origin…yes…again.
Batman’s tortured origin is as much of history as real history. Man, woman and child know he lost his parents as a boy, was consumed by it and become a vigilante because of it. Hopefully they don’t over do it.
7) There will be weird sh*t in there – #1.
This weird Lex Luther that is considerably younger than both Batman and Superman. AND he has a lot of hair, which will probably go bye-bye from hanging out with Kryponite so much. Also, what is with “the red capes are coming?” stuff? Are they just looking to be odd ball for the sake of being odd ball? For the record, that’s not always a bad thing.
8) There will be weird sh*t in there – #2.
Why is Batman in some sort of vintage get up fighting thugs with Superman’s “S” on it? Let me find out Supes got thugs on the payroll. Certainly this will get explained and yet…I don’t have any reference for it. Maybe these are the red capes…with no capes.
9) This will be one dark movie.
Superman from the 80’s was a pretty happy dude. Historically, Batman wasn’t nearly as dark until Frank Miller got to him in the Dark Knight graphic novel series (he gets a brief look in the movie: seen below). This move looks to take a nod for Hollywood’s love for dystopia. Hey, I love those moves – no pushback here!
10) DC seeks to give Marvel a run, but I can’t help but think they are bat-winging it a little bit.
Certainly they are getting it together and “Batman vs Superman” looks stunning. However, many of us still remember “Dark Knight Rises,” where the Dark Knight seemingly was obliterated and broke. Zod pops up in the trailer too. Suddenly, Bruce Wayne just happens to be in Metropolis when Superman and General Zod destroy the city, killing thousands? He’s mad at Superman, knowing that Zod was the real reason for the mass destruction? Yes, he has personal reasons, but still… Then there’s a glimmer of a random Aqua Man looking fellow swimming. I don’t know, but it is a great conversation piece for us all to brood over over. After millions and millions of views, fanfare to match and DC (and Marvel) heads screaming victory…this movie is already a hit.
10.5) Batman gives no f## about this faux god alien of light.
Awesome Nobody is a lyrically skilled artist with unique style of rap who has been consistently building a solid fan base by doing shows in the NJ/NYC area and releasing quality music.
Awesome is a self proclaimed attribute short for “Awesome Nobody” that comes from the catch phrase “Somebody Awesome, but Nobody Special”! The term “Awesome” is a self realization and reminder just how very blessed and talented we all can be, emphasizing we are all “Awesome Individuals”. In comparison, its the same principle behind the “the Anonymous Nobody” used by De La Soul in 2015 that states there are no egos, no seniority, no bosses, just a group of equal “Nobodies” working towards one goal; making music!! The term “Nobody” in the name Awesome Nobody means a silent champion or brave individual “A Nobody” in a sense, that steps in to save the day who does so for “The Cause”, “Not because! When you use this metaphor in relation to the music industry its applicable because there are so many artists and its seemingly impossible to make a name for yourself, so in essence you are a nobody, but if you embrace that fact, its actually a strength that can be used with great leverage, quotes Awesome.
Originally from the NJ/NYC area, Awesome Nobody is dropping his new single “GO GRIFF” on July 14th on iTunes, TIDAL, and Apple Music. What’s the best way to describe “Awesome’s music? According to Awesome, just as the name implies, “AWESOME”!! “Go Griff” is an upbeat, catchy, song full of meaning, lyricism and originality. The song is a perfect blend of lyricism and melody for an incredible musical journey into an AWESOME introduction of who he is. The song was produced by Atlantic Records super producer Go Grizzly (@GoGrizzly) who also produced hits for artists such as Cyhi the Prynce, Future, Kevin Gates, Young Dro, Trae The Truth, August Alsina, and Boldy James. Take a listen to his new single “GO GRIFF” below!
Be sure to buy the new single from Awesome “GO GRIFF” available on 7/14 on iTunes and TIDAL. For all things AWESOME check out his website www.awesomenobody.com, follow him on IG (@Awesome_Nobody), Twitter (@AwesomeNobdy), and Soundcloud.com/awesomenobody.
Warren G is back with a new track featuring late West Coast legend, Nate Dogg. The new song is titled” My House”, and features an interesting beat with a 2000’s vibe with it. “My House” is one of the songs off of Warren G’s upcoming project The G F### Era Part II EP, an EP that will follow up to G’s classic album that released over 20 years ago. Check out “My House” below.
Recently, Long Beach rapper Vince Staples stopped by Tim Westwood to do talk about his album and many things. However, things happened to get dope once Staples kicked a freestyle, rapping over the vicious beat by Kanye West “Get Em High”. Check out the freestyle below.
Sometimes, death can be something that brings the most improbable individuals in action. Today, that happens to be Chief Keef. According to P&P, the Chicago rapper is planning to have a tribute concert to help raise money for Dillon Harris. Harris was the 1-year old that was also killed during a shooting involving Capo, a fellow friend of Keef’s crew. Due to the legal warrants that the rapper has on him, Keef is definitely not going back to Chicago to perform. Instead, he’ll be performing via Hologram.
Chief Keef is also taking his movement against violence in Chi-Town to the next level. It has been reported that he is organization a foundation to prevent more violence like this in Chicago, according to the source.
