Big Boi Discusses How Former Epic Records CEO L.A. Reid Helped His Career (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Veteran music business executive L.A. Reid is responsible for helping to advance the careers of OutKast, Mariah Carey, Toni Braxton, TLC, Usher, Rihanna, Pink, Young Jeezy, Rick Ross, Future, 21 Savage, and others.

However, Reid’s legacy took a hit this year when he was accused of harassing an employee while working at Epic Records.

Those reports emerged shortly after it was announced Reid would no longer serve as Chairman/CEO of the label.

Everyday Struggle host Joe Budden strongly criticized the former Island Def Jam Music Group head.

Budden called Reid a “sexual predator” and blasted his ex-boss for not truly understanding Hip Hop culture or rappers.

In an interview with The Breakfast Club, OutKast’s Big Boi was asked about Reid’s connection to Hip Hop.

“The track record speaks for itself. We’re the only rap group to ever win Album of the Year at the Grammys. We still got that belt,” stated Big about the man who signed his group to LaFace Records in the early 1990’s. “I’m not a platinum recording artist. I’m a diamond recording artist.”

The Atlanta native also talked about how Reid and LaFace allowed OutKast to own their publishing which is a source of income that many signed acts are not initially granted.

Big Boi addressed receiving business advice from his longtime associate as well.

“L.A. taught me to invest in what you know,” he revealed.

According to Big, it appears Reid is not done making moves in the entertainment industry.

The “Mic Jack” spitter stated, “He’s good. Y’all just stay tuned.”

Big Boi just dropped his third solo album Boomiverse which was released through Epic Records.

Prodigy Was Reportedly Working On A Musical About The Illuminati Before His Death

(AllHipHop News) “Illuminati want my mind, soul and my body,” rapped Prodigy on the 1995 LL Cool J song “I Shot Ya (Remix).”

After the news broke of Prodigy’s passing, Kathy Iandoli – the co-author of the emcee’s Commissary Kitchen spoke to Complex about what the Queens native was working on next.

“The one thing we were planning on doing was a musical about the Illuminati and how the obsession with the Illuminati infiltrated people’s opinions of Hip Hop,” said Iandoli.

She added, “We were initially going to do an interactive type of musical with a company that runs The Illuminati Ball, but then we decided to take our idea to an off-Broadway situation. Tell a story with a very specific beginning, middle, and end. But [the story] began with prison; it was semi-autobiographical.”

Prodigy’s music career has included several references to the so-called secret society.

There is a song titled “Illuminati” on his 2008 album H.N.I.C. Pt. 2, and he also covered the topic on his recent The Hegelian Dialectic project.

Earlier this year, the Mobb Deep member spoke to Genius about the Five-Percent Nation, the Nation of Islam, Malachi Z. York, Beyoncé’s “Formation,” and the Illuminati.

“We’re actually at a home of a friend of mine, Cynthia [von Buhler]. She does these immersive plays,” explained Prodigy from the Illuminati Ball House in New York. “I’m actually a part of one of them and we’re working on another one. The original one that we worked on is called The Illuminati Ball. We actually do it here in the house.”

When asked to describe the Illuminati, Prodigy responded, “This dude named Adam Weishaupt started this group of powerful, rich people that basically shape popular opinion and the way the world is gonna move forward.”

T.I. To Star In Fox Police Drama ‘Atlanta’s Most Wanted’

(AllHipHop News) Tip “T.I.” Harris is returning to the small screen.

After appearing on Showtime’s House of Lies and VH1’s The Breaks, T.I. is set to star in a new drama on network television.

Fox picked up the police procedural Atlanta’s Most Wanted.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, T.I. teamed with veteran film/TV producer Jerry Bruckheimer (Bad Boys, Pirates of the Caribbean) for the series.

“I am honored to partner with Fox and Bruckheimer on what is truly a passion project for me. It’s going to be amazing to see my city represented in this fashion,” stated Tip.

The rapper-turned-actor will play a character named Marcus Armstrong who is the son of an Atlanta criminal kingpin.

Armstrong becomes a member of the city’s vice squad which is charged with confronting his hometown’s criminal element.

Rodney Barnes (Everybody Hates Chris, The Boondocks) was tapped to write the script.

Besides his acting work, T.I. is still continuing his music career.

The Grand Hustle leader recently released the video for “Writer” featuring B.o.B. and Translee.

DJ Akademiks Addresses Heated Conversation With Vic Mensa On ‘Everyday Struggle’ (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Monday’s episode of Everyday Struggle featured a special guest – Chicago rapper Vic Mensa.

At one point, Mensa called out co-host DJ Akademiks over what he saw as the YouTube personality’s negative coverage of the violence in Chicago.

“People exactly like you sensationalized and made a following off of clowning situations that we go through in real life,” the Roc Nation emcee told Akademiks. “I think n-ggas ain’t have no right. You specifically, you ain’t never have a right. Whatever made you feel like you had a space to have a perspective on our people dying on a daily basis?”

Following the interview with Mensa going viral, Akademiks spoke on the situation on Tuesday’s Everyday Struggle.

“I am never above an artist who may have a difference of opinion, on either what I’ve said or what I’ve said about them, to come up here and voice it. That’s the reason we have guests,” said Ak. “When Vic Mensa was here, I could have easily glanced over and went past that, but that was a point of discussion when I have discussed this a lot and know he’s been outspoken about it. So I wanted to know how he felt… He said what he had to say. I think that’s important.”

DJ Akademiks also clarified that he has never made fun of anyone that has died as a result of the street violence in Chicago.

He further addressed his views of Chicago and its citizens via his Instagram page:

I’ve Always loved and supported the ppl and rappers affected by violence in Chicago. I understand tho why everyone there might hate me. And that something I’ll take and wear. I’ve loved the music and culture there but always denounced the disgusting violence. Perhaps it wasn’t my place to speak on that but to be clear I never done anything but show sympathy for the victims of violence in Chicago while vehemently condemning the ppl who did the violence. Still I’m understanding of the ppl who may share a difference of opinion or who May see me as the agitator and I hope one day we can reconcile. I apologize to all artist and people from Chicago for giving light to drill music and it may be one the things I did wrong while coming up. I’ve realized a lot within the last few Days.

John Singleton Says ‘All Eyez On Me’ Filmmakers Stole The Movie Rights From Afeni Shakur

(AllHipHop News) Acclaimed director John Singleton was a recent guest on N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN’s Drink Champs podcast.

Most of the conversation consisted of the Boyz n the Hood creator reflecting on his film career.

But N.O.R.E. also asked him about All Eyez On Me, the Tupac Shakur biopic that Singleton was once set to direct before Benny Boom took over the reins.

One of the topics surrounding AEOM that was discussed on Drink Champs was the allegation that Singleton wanted his version of the script to include a scene where Pac got raped.

“There’s a whole lot of things that they would not have in the movie that actually happened,” said Singleton.

When questioned if Tupac really got sexually assaulted, Singleton replied, “There’s a whole lot of things that happened. There’s stuff [about] who actually was involved in his death and the lead up to his death.”

Another revelation from Singleton concerning AEOM involved Pac’s mother Afeni Shakur.

“They stole the rights from his mother,” declared the Academy Award nominated filmmaker. “They made the movie they wanted to make, and hopefully one day I’ll get a chance to tell that story.”

AllHipHop.com interviewed All Eyez On Me producer L.T. Hutton in 2014, and he was asked if Afeni Shakur was involved in the making of the movie.

“She has a huge role. She has approval of a lot of things, and she wants the best portrayal of her son possible,” stated Hutton at the time. “She doesn’t have a problem with any of the truth. She just wants to make sure that everything was told correctly.”

Afeni Shakur passed away in May 2016 which was a little over one year before All Eyez On Me was released on June 16, 2017.

2 Chainz Explains Why He Doesn’t Write Any Of His Rhymes

(AllHipHop News) Rapper 2 Chainz does not write his lyrics down when recording a song.

The “I’m Different” hitmaker prefers to come up with his lyrics off the top of his head and pair them up with a few select beats producers present to him.

“I don’t like writing down anything,” he tells RollingStone.com. “I feel like I could waste a good idea on just listening to a track. I don’t want to hear 15 beats. I don’t want to waste my studio time listening to beats. When I come, I want to work. Load them up. I’m going to come off the top.”

He continues, “And out of the three (beats chosen by a producer), I hope one of them is something I can keep or keep going off of. That’s what I’m banking on. For the last couple years, every song has been like that.”

The only songs that he switches up his process for are ones that he is featured on with another artist.

“I have to get them (beforehand) so I can know what the f**k I’m going to rap about,” he continues. “I think most artists I work with know that I’m cuckoo like that.”

AllHipHop’s Final Interview With Prodigy Of Mobb Deep

(AllHipHop Features) Hip-Hop has taken another heavy loss, as Prodigy of Mobb Deep has died suddenly. The rapper, real name Albert Johnson, died in Las Vegas on June 20, 2017. He was 42. Mobb Deep and AllHipHop go way back to the late 90’s and early 2000’s and that relationship continued until this year.

Prodigy had been extremely busy at the time of his passing. In just a few months, he had churned out a book, a solo album, heavy touring and was looking forward to a performance at the Harlem Arts festival this upcoming weekend. Earlier in the year, AllHipHop’s Chuck Creekmur interview P and the rapper/author had clearly evolved. He was looking forward to new music with Mobb Deep, had rethought his past beefs and had was really pondering life on an entirely different level, evidenced in Hegelian Dialectic (The Book of Revelation). Check out this interview with Prodigy and celebrate an infamous life well lived.

Prayers to P’s family, friends and partner-in-rhyme, Havoc.

Kat Graham Stunned At Jada Pinkett’s Criticism of “All Eyez On Me”

(AllHipHop News) Jada Pinkett Smith’s criticism of the new Tupac Shakur biopic left actress Kat Graham stunned, because she thought “The Matrix Reloaded” cstar was fully supportive of the film.

“All Eyez on Me,” starring Demetrius Shipp, Jr. and Kat Graham as Tupac and Jada, was savaged by the hip-hop community when it was released on Friday (June 16) – what would have been the rapper’s 46th birthday – but it was comments Pinkett Smith made on social media that really upset the leading lady.

In a series of tweets, Jada wrote: “Forgive me… my relationship to Pac is too precious to me for the scenes in ‘All Eyez On Me’ to stand as truth”, while praising Demetrius and Kat for “bringing so much heart and spirit to your roles”.

She also picked apart some of the inaccuracies in the film, suggesting director Benny Boom went too far with artistic license.

Graham admits she was taken aback by Jada’s remarks because she reached out to her to make sure she played her accurately on the big screen.

“When I first got the role, I reached out to (her) a year and a half ago…,” she told Eonline.com. “The point of reaching out to her, as well as the other producers on the film, was to insure the integrity of the story and the character. I even spoke to her last week and she had nothing but support.”

“I have a lot of love for her,” she adds. “I hope people just see the movie and make the choice for themselves.”

The biopic has received mixed reviews, but producer L.T. Hutton has defended the film, insisting he never intended to recreate Jada and Tupac’s relationship on screen, but wanted to depict it in the way he thought the rapper would have wanted.

Were Jay Z & Beyonce’s Blueprint Twins Born Prematurely?

(AllHipHop Rumors) Even when we became privy to the timeline of the development of Jay Z & Beyonce’s twins, we weren’t quite informed as to how far along Beyonce was when she broke the net by posting not only the announcement, but also a photo of her baby bump.

Hov and Bey continue to shake up the net as alleged details about their twins seem to leak. Folks have even been criticizing Bey’s father, Matthew Knowles, for making an announcement on social media even before Jay and Bey did. As the Beyhive is certainly buzzing about the Carter’s new bundles of joy, sources claim that Beyonce did not carry the twins to full term.

According to TMZ, Bey-Z’s twins were born premature and are “under the lights” to normalize.

There has been speculation that the babies may be “under the lights” because they may have jaundice which is common among premature babies. Apparently the lights are designed to lower bilirubin in their blood to eliminate the jaundice. The good news is that if this is the case, the condition is oftentimes not life-threatening.

I can’t wait until we know the babies’ names!

Scarface Questions The Authenticity Of ‘All Eyez On Me’

(AllHipHop Rumors) Welp, the mixed reviews on Tupac’s long-awaited biopic, ‘All Eyez On Me’ continue to pour in.

Regardless, it is still good to see that they came in at No. 3 at the box office!

Moving on, even the legends seem to be divided on the film. You have people like Snoop Dogg, The Game, and MC Hammer praising it, while Jada Pinkett-Smith, 50 Cent, Pac’s family and estate, and now Scarface have criticized it! Even Wack 100 has praised it [no comment].

It seems that Scarface is questioning the authenticity of the biopic. Scarface happened to be one of the guests at a Classic Hip Hop event in Chicago, and the legend gave his honest opinion when the biopic came up.

According to ‘Face, if Pac’s close friends such as Big Syke, Spice 1, Too $hort, Richie Rich, weren’t mentioned, then the film is not a real or accurate Tupac movie.

There was also a plot twist by Scarface at the event. He told the crowd that when he dies to not buy any of his albums that a record label puts out. From there he went on to say it’s time for everyone to stop “supporting” new Tupac projects because the money won’t be going to his family since both Tupac and his mother, Afeni Shakur, have passed away.

What are your thoughts on Scarface’s message and the film?

Change Of Heart: Azealia Banks Is Now Open To Collaborating With This Rapper!

(AllHipHop Rumors) Well we all know that unfortunately rapper Azealia Banks is a few sandwiches short of a picnic, and her elevator doesn’t go to the top floor, but we still try to let her live.

In a shocking twist of events, Banks has revealed that she would like to collaborate with Iggy Azalea.

This would be no big deal if Igggy wasn’t one of the people that Azealia has dogged out over the years.

Banks now seemingly has a change of heart and believes the strategy of pairing them together will yield a platinum release.

Well I doubt it, because controversial or not, both of their careers aren’t popping anymore. Banks flat out ruined her moment, and the Hip Hop community doesn’t believe Iggy is real Hip Hop. Igg has had some very successful singles, but I’m unsure if her pop fans would even support the collaboration.

Sure they have fans somewhere, but do they have enough to truly have a successful single right now?

Ok do you guys want to hear about another one of my bad ideas? I’m kind of scared to tweet it. What if ….Igloo was on Anna Winter? The headlines would be everything tho. The song would be a #1 all over Europe PLUS, we’d probably get a Grammy for it. Just because it’s us. And the media frenzy around it will drown out any and everything else happening in music this summer lol Come on iggy. U kno a collab between you & I would shut the entire scene down. It would be quiet for the girls this summer lol. @IGGYAZALEA. Right ! It’s genius marketing,” tweeted Banks.

Iggy has enough problems with her declining career, so in my opinion, I think she’ll stay far away from bat sh-t crazy Banks! Even if some of the things Azealia once said about Iggy had any merit, I still wonder if she was jealous of Iggy’s success!

Would you be here for the collab?

Remind me y’all; does Iggy still have a big fan base somewhere. Is it just the Hip Hop community and the U.S. that’s mean to her? LOL.

What Divorce?! Are T.I. & Tiny Back Together?

(AllHipHop Rumors) The Family Hustle just might keep on hustling together.

T.I. and Tiny were spotted looking happy together while leaving an Atlanta venue over the weekend. This led many to speculate about whether or not they have gotten back together.

I honestly can’t imagine them really going through with the divorce. With the relationship lasting long, and with all of the kids, it just seems like they are supposed to be together. T.I. did state that all-in-all, Tiny will always be one of his best friends.

If Tip still feels like his marriage is a distraction, they just may have to part ways. I don’t think they will ever truly be over each other. It looks like they’ll just numb out to the fact that they’ll be seeing other people.

What are your thoughts? Do you think they will really go through with the divorce? What if they just needed a good storyline to wrap their TV show with? Hmmmmmmm.

Rapper Ice Cube Could Derail August 26 Fight Between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor

(AllHipHop News) Ice Cube has offered to move his BIG3 basketball league championship game for Floyd Mayweather Jr.s boxing comeback – if the price is right.

Floyd plans to face off against UFC tough guy Conor McGregor at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on August 26 – the same night as the BIG3 final.

The rapper and actor, who runs the basketball league, has revealed he’s in talks with boxing bosses and they’re close to a deal that will prompt him to move his sports showdown.

Appearing on U.S. sports talk show “Undisputed” on Monday (June 19), the “It Was a Good Day” hitmaker said he will move his big game “if they (promoters) do what they’re supposed to do and make us happy”, adding, “I think we can get there.”

Ice Cube added sports mogul to his impressive resume after quietly making plans to launch a U.S. summer basketball league earlier this year.

The former N.W.A. star, who is a fervent Los Angeles Lakers fan, teamed up with a few former NBA players to start up the traveling league.

The eight-team league features a handful of retired players, with basketball great Gary Payton among the coaches.

Cube’s business partner Jeff Kwatinetz, who is the deputy executive director of the NBA Players Association, is also part of the brain trust behind the new initiative.

“A lot of these guys can still play once they retire – just not the back-to-backs or four games in five nights,” the rapper says. “I started to look at three-on-three basketball and wondered, ‘Why isn’t this played on a pro level?'”

Maino Talks Appearing In The 2Pac Biopic ‘All Eyez On Me’ (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) The reaction to the Tupac Shakur biopic All Eyez On Me has been polarizing.

Professional critics, 50 Cent, and Pac’s friend Jada Pinkett Smith panned the Benny Boom-directed movie.

Others like Snoop Dogg, The Game, and MC Hammer showed public support for All Eyez On Me.

While the response to the motion picture continues to play out, an interview from one of the film’s antagonists hit the internet.

Prior to the movie’s release, DJ Smallz caught up with Maino who appeared in AEOM as the man who killed Shakur.

“My role is not a big role, but it’s very memorable. You ain’t gonna forget me, baby. That is a guaranteed fact,” said the rapper-turned-actor.

Maino got the role through his association with Boom.

“When it was time, he called me [and said,] ‘I got something for you, ‘” explained Maino. “He told me what it was. I said, ‘Wow.’ It didn’t really hit me until I got on set.”

The “Hi Hater” spitter later added about Tupac’s portrayal in the biopic, “The honesty, you’re gonna feel it.”

All Eyez On Me opened in third place at the weekend box office with an estimated gross of $27.1 million.

BREAKING NEWS: Prodigy Of Mobb Deep Dead At 42

(AllHipHop News) Veteran rapper Prodigy from Mobb Deep has passed away.

What details are still coming in, Nas confirmed the unfortunate news on his Instagram page today (June 20).

According to reports, the rapper was hospitalized following a performance on The Art of Rap tour stop in Las Vegas.

“It is with extreme sadness and disbelief that we confirm the death of our dear friend Albert Johnson, better known to millions of fans as Prodigy of legendary NY rap duo Mobb Deep,” a rep said in a statement. “Prodigy was hospitalized a few days ago in Vegas after a Mobb Deep performance for complications caused by a sickle cell anemia crisis. As most of his fans know, Prodigy battled the disease since birth. The exact causes of death have yet to be determined. We would like to thank everyone for respecting the family’s privacy at this time.”

Prodigy, born Albert Johnson, was diagnosed with sickle cell anemia when he was three-months old.

“I have the worse type of sickle cell, the “SS” type,” Prodigy told AllHipHop.com. “If I don’t take care of myself and do the right things, I will experience a severely painful sickle cell crisis; all my joints hurt; it’s a bad scene. Before I really knew how to take care of myself I was in and out of the hospital, they had morphine for pain; IV’s in my arm; couldn’t get comfortable for days at a time, it was really hard on my body.”

Raury Addresses Protesting Dolce & Gabbana At The Fashion House’s Milan Runway Show

(AllHipHop News) Atlanta-raised artist Raury is becoming known not just for his music, but also for making social statements through public protests.

The creator of 2015’s All I Need album continued his role as a demonstrator during his modeling appearance for Dolce & Gabbana’s Spring-Summer 2018 runway show in Milan.

While participating in the presentation’s finale, Raury removed a bomber to reveal the words “PROTEST DG,” “GIVE ME FREEDOM,” and “I AM NOT YOUR SCAPEGOAT” written on his body.

The 21-year-old entertainer posted about his D&G protest on Instagram:

I never felt so alone, so terrified, yet so alive… Found myself in tears when I realized the people understood, and I’m not just screaming in the dark anymore … if ur in this industry remember that there is a god, and he protects the good… so do the work when aligned to. following my heart from this day forth knowing that I am living truth… If it ever means my end so be it.

In recent years, Dolce & Gabbana faced significant backlash for Domenico Dolce’s comments about gay parenthood.

The Italian fashion house also caught some negative critiques for its “ironic” troll campaign in response to critics’ complaints about their association with First Lady Melania Trump.

Raury spoke to GQ about his objection to D&G’s $245 “Boycott Dolce & Gabbana” shirts and videos ads featuring fake protests.

“The ‘Boycott Dolce & Gabbana’ T-shirt they created completely makes a mockery of what ‘boycotting’ is,” said the LoveRenaissance representative. “Boycotting is the people’s voice. A protest is the people’s voice. It has power. It changes things.”

Raury also did not want to be viewed as supporting a company that was linked to Melania Trump.

He supposedly found out about Dolce & Gabbana’s connection to the First Lady after arriving in Milan for the show.

This is not the first time the “God’s Whisper” performer took a stand against the Trump family.

Last September, Raury wore a Mexico soccer jersey with Donald Trump’s name crossed out on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

The then-presidential candidate was a guest on the same episode of the CBS program.

“Honestly, fashion, music, movies, art, people, construction workers, human beings, everyone mingles with politics at work. That’s life. Show your true colors. And if you show your true colors, sh-t like this might happen to you. That’s just the truth,” Raury told GQ. “If your message is cool, then it’s cool. But if it ain’t, millennials are going to come and let you know. And we won’t let up.”

Jay Z Changes His Name…Again

(AllHipHop News) Jay Z has embarked on the next stage of his career by changing his name… again.

The 47-year-old rapper, real name Shawn Carter, has been known as Jay Z since 2013, when he dropped the hyphen from his moniker ahead of the release of his album Magna Carta Holy Grail.

But now, before his next offering, visual album 4:44, hits shelves, the father-of-three has had another identity crisis, adding the grammatical mark back in and capping up his whole title.

According to website Pitchfork, the rapper will now be known as Jay-Z a Roc Nation representative for the star reportedly confirmed.

News of the name change came as Jay-Z was seen for the first time since wife Beyonce reportedly gave birth to twins last week.

The “Empire State Of Mind” star was seen heading out of his Beverly Hills mansion with a bodyguard and two friends to head to Soul Cycle in West Hollywood on Monday (June 19).

Wearing a black hoodie and shorts, he was then photographed making his exit through the loading dock of the gym, where he flashed smiles to waiting photographers while getting back into his car.

Neither Jay-Z or Beyonce have publicly commented on the birth of their twins, reported to be a boy and a girl.

However, Beyonce’s father Matthew Knowles appeared to have confirmed the pair’s arrival by writing on Twitter on Saturday: “They’re here! #beyonce #twins #jayz #happybirthday. Happy Birthday to the twins! Love, Granddad.”

Reports the “Formation” singer had become a mom began swirling this week when Jay-Z missed his Songwriters Hall of Fame induction in New York City last Thursday night.

Sources also told E! News that he was spotted heading into a Los Angeles hospital alongside his five-year-old daughter Blue Ivy.

An unidentified woman was also seen entering the hospital carrying two baby foot-shaped pink and blue balloons and flowers with a card that read, “Congratulations B & J.”
