Pharrell and Usher Join Ariana Grande’s Big Fundraiser For Manchester Suicide Bombing Victims

(AllHipHop News) Ariana Grande will be joined by stars like Justin Bieber and Katy Perry at a benefit show in Manchester, England on Sunday (June 4), less than two weeks after the city’s terror attack.

A suicide bomber detonated a device as fans were exiting the Dangerous Woman singer’s show at Manchester Arena on May 22, killing 22 people and injuring 116 others.

Ariana, who subsequently suspended her tour, vowed to return to the city to perform a fundraising gig for the victims of the attack and their families, and on Tuesday (May 30), it was announced the 23-year-old would hit the stage in Manchester this weekend.

In addition to Justin and Katy, Coldplay, Miley Cyrus, Pharrell Williams, Usher, Take That, and One Direction star Niall Horan will play Manchester’s 50,000-capacity Emirates Old Trafford Cricket Ground.

“We will not quit or operate in fear,” she wrote. “We won’t let this divide us. We won’t let hate win,” Ariana said in a statement. “Our response to this violence must be to come closer together, to help each other, to love more, to sing louder and to live more kindly and generously than we did before.”

Proceeds from ticket sales will go directly to the We Love Manchester Emergency Fund set up by staff at Manchester City Council and the British Red Cross to aid those affected by the attack.

Ariana is also offering fans who attended the tragic Manchester Arena concert free tickets.

Greater Manchester Police chief Ian Hopkins also revealed on local radio that Manchester United soccer star Michael Carrick helped ensure the benefit concert could go ahead by altering his plans for a testimonial match at his club’s nearby stadium on Sunday.

“I was speaking personally with Michael and his team who, I have to say, have been brilliant in trying to come to a compromise around enabling us to make sure that both go ahead,” Hopkins told BBC Radio Manchester.

Wale’s Body Guard Hit With Gun Charges After Nightclub Brawl

(AllHipHop News) Rapper Wale’s bodyguard has been arrested and charged with illegal gun possession in Boston, Massachusetts.

Eric Miller was arrested in the early hours of Sunday (May 28) after he was identified as one of the people involved in a fight at Bijou nightclub, where the “Chillin” hitmaker had been hosting an event.

The bodyguard told police he had left a gun in a vehicle parked nearby before arriving at the venue, and he was taken into custody after cops discovered he didn’t have a valid license for the loaded handgun.

He was arraigned in court on Tuesday (May 30), when he pleaded not guilty to counts including unlawful possession of a firearm, and bail was set at $50,000, reports The Boston Globe.

Wale has yet to comment on the incident.

Are Katy Perry & Migos Beefing?

(AllHipHop Rumors) Well Katy Perry & Miley Cyrus certainly aren’t favorited by Hip Hop fans right now.

Folks are even claiming that Miley passed the culture vulture torch to Katy! Katy received much backlash for collaborating with Migos on the single, “Bon Appetit”, as Migos have faced even more backlash for their alleged homophobic remarks.

Then even more controversy came when Katy and Migos performed the song on Saturday Night Live, as reports of Migos allegedly asking for drag queens to be removed from the performance surfaced.

I mean before those alleged details were even revealed, the performance was awkward and cringeworthy to begin with. It looked terribly forced.

It looks like Katy & Migos may have decided to part ways for good as Katy Perry unfollowed the Migos on Instagram. You know a person stops f’n with you when they stop liking your photos and unfollow you on social media man. Apparently Migos returned the favor and unfollowed Perry as well. Is there BEEF? LOL.

I guess it’s safe to say that there won’t be anymore live performances of this song. It seems like the song will become washed completely very soon. I’m sure Perry & Migos didn’t envision their collaboration going like this.

Should they have collaborated in the first place? What are your thoughts?

John Legend Warns About Right-Leaning Sinclair Group After Cancellation Of ‘Underground’

(AllHipHop News) The well-received historical drama Underground will not be returning to WGN America for a third season.

After the news broke, executive producer John Legend commented about the show being canceled.

“WGN America has been bought and is going a different direction strategically. We will find a new home for #Underground!” tweeted Legend. “Content wins. We’re not reliant on a particular network to make great content. We’re so proud of our show and the audience that supported!”

The Grammy-winning singer also took the time to point out the rise of the Sinclair Broadcast Group, a conservative media company that is purchasing local television stations across the country.

“Be wary of Sinclair though. They’re trying to make local stations mini Fox Newses, but more to the right,” Legend added.

Sinclair recently bought the Tribune Media Company which owns WGN America.

Peter Kern, President and CEO of Tribune, issued the following statement about the cancellation of Underground.

As WGN America evolves and broadens the scope and scale of its portfolio of series, we recently announced that resources will be reallocated to a new strategy to increase our relevance within the rapidly changing television landscape. This move is designed to deliver additional value for our advertising and distribution partners and offer viewers more original content across our air. Despite ‘Underground’ being a terrific and important series, it no longer fits with our new direction and we have reached the difficult decision not to renew it for a third season. We are tremendously proud of this landmark series that captured the zeitgeist and made an impact on television in a way never before seen on the medium. We thank the incomparable creators Misha Green and Joe Pokaski and the great John Legend, along with the talented creative team and cast who brought the unsung American heroes of the Underground Railroad to life. We are grateful to the loyal fans of ‘Underground’ and our partners at Sony Pictures Television. It is our hope that this remarkable show finds another home and continues its stories of courage, determination and freedom.

John Legend echoed Kern’s hope that Underground lands on another network.

He posted, “Feel free to drop some hints to the networks/streaming services you want to pick up #Underground. Show them who will be watching!”

During its two-year run, Underground received nominations from the NAACP Image Awards and the TCA Awards.

The show also won three CableFax Awards for Best New Program, Best Historical Show/Series, and Best Showrunners.

Season one averaged around 1 million viewers per episode, but the second season slipped to about an average of 500,000 viewers per episode.

Underground told the story of the famous Underground Railroad in slavery-era Georgia.

It starred Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Aldis Hodge, Jessica De Gouw, Alano Miller, and Christopher Meloni.

“The story of the Underground Railroad is a story we hadn’t heard yet. The Underground Railroad was the first integrated civil rights movement in our nation,” said Smollett-Bell at a screening in 2016. “It was one of the first times we really rebelled. I wanted to see that story. I wanted to explore us being revolutionaries. I wanted to explore us revolting and fighting back.”

Floyd Mayweather Talks Modern Rap Making It Okay To Be A Junkie (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Retired boxing champion Floyd Mayweather’s career features a connection to Hip Hop culture.

The Money Team head has had a long love-hate relationship with G-Unit’s 50 Cent, and he’s known to party with rap stars like Future and Fat Joe.

Mayweather is also the founder of the TMT Music Group which is the label home to rapper Lil Jamez.

During an interview with DJ Whoo Kid, the undefeated prize fighter-turned-promoter spoke about current Hip Hop.

“Rap has took a heavy turn. At a particular time, rap was all about the lyrics. Now it’s a little different,” Mayweather stated.

He continued, “I can remember when all we talked about was just marijuana. Now it’s okay to be a junkie… It’s crazy that it’s okay to OD on drugs, it’s okay to take any drugs now, it’s okay to be a junkie.”

Mayweather mentioned late Hip Hop icons The Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur as makers of timeless music.

The 40-year-old athlete also questioned why his frenemy 50 Cent was not given more industry awards for his music-based accomplishments.

Nas Pens Open Letter About “Racist” Donald Trump, Politics & Art In America

(AllHipHop News) Nas has always used his music to address social issues in America.

The Hip Hop legend decided to share some of his thoughts on Donald Trump and the current political climate via an open letter posted on Mass Appeal.

“The Creator put us here to do our thing, so I do my thing. And I don’t pay attention to politics at the moment. For what? There’s no reason. For me, it doesn’t make any sense. We all know a racist is in office,” stated Nas. “People can talk their sh-t. Comedians can sound racist. People can go through their moments of that sh-t, but when you have the responsibility of being President and you carry on like that, you send a strong message to people outside of your group that they ain’t worth sh-t.”

He later added, “My way of addressing these issues is through my work. Whatever president may be in office doesn’t affect my work directly. The way he affects people is what affects me. I observe what’s going on and that goes into my creative process. The person himself, I’m not caught up with. I don’t even have time for Trump or Pence. I don’t give a f-ck.”

Nas also covered how believes art will survive the “Trump Era.”

“But in reality, art is gonna thrive regardless. Whether it’s affected by who’s in office or not, art thrives. I live in that—I live in those walls, I live in those wires, I live in those pencils and papers, and that sound,” wrote the “One Love” spitter. “I’m not caught up in politics. I saw Gerald Ford and his vice president Nelson Rockefeller. I saw Jimmy Carter. I saw Ronald Reagan, and I saw George Bush, Sr. I saw Bill Clinton, George Bush, Jr., and Barack Obama. I’m good.”

Blac Youngsta Names His Tour “I’m Innocent” After Charges Over Young Dolph Shooting

(AllHipHop News) Memphis, Tennessee rapper Blac Youngsta is hitting the road to declare his innocence, in a shooting involving rival rapper Young Dolph.

Blac Youngsta is going out on the road for the “I’m Innocent” tour, in support of his mixtape with the same title.

Blac Youngsta and two associates were charged with six counts of discharging a weapon into occupied property and felony conspiracy, for allegedly spraying over 100 rounds at Young Dolph during CIAA weekend, on a busy downtown street.

Afropunk Atlanta 2017 To Feature Solange, Danny Brown, Flatbush Zombies, Willow Smith & More

(AllHipHop News) Afropunk is returning to Atlanta this fall.

The lineup for the 2017 edition includes Solange, Danny Brown, Flatbush Zombies, Willow Smith, Young Fathers, Moses Sumney, Jamila Woods, and more.

This year’s theme – like Afropunk Brooklyn – is “WE THE PEOPLE.”

Afropunk organizers issued the following statement:

We, the people built this land. Our flesh and blood is present in its buildings, its roads and its bridges. Our souls are its spiritual cornerstone. Our culture is its foundation. Our being nourishes this land – as our ancestors’ beings nourished it before us – yet the land has not always reimbursed us.

We, the people recognize the bullsh-t of the powerful. The injustices they committed in the past have never disappeared from view. The inequalities they perpetrate are there for all but the blind. The inadequacies they’ve paid forward to a future age are appearing over the horizon. Unless…

We, the people have a code:
No Sexism
No Racism
No Ableism
No Ageism
No Homophobia
No Fatphobia
No Transphobia

We, the people commit ourselves to uphold and fight for the rights enshrined in our code. Let us honour those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom, and hold accountable those who curtail our liberties. Let us walk in the footsteps of warriors who came before us, and strive to create a society based on fundamental human rights. Let us rewrite the universal laws and educate the errant minds.

We, the people have the will to heal the divisions that threaten to reduce our dreams to ashes. We believe in resurrecting the creative power of our diversity. We open our hearts and minds, and dance to the rhythm of a brand-new future. Together. Brave and compassionate. And beautiful.

May the Goddess protect we, the people.

Afropunk Presents The Carnival of Consciousness Atlanta is scheduled for October 14 and 15 in the city’s Mechanicsville neighborhood.

The festival features music, art, salons, film, and lectures celebrating contemporary black expression and youthful black consciousness.

The Internet Believes Rihanna Is Pregnant!

(AllHipHop Rumors) Bad gal RiRi is getting thicky thick, and her thickness has the internet going nuts.

Folks have even started to speculate that the singer may in fact be pregnant.

Baby girl is thicker than a snickers! Despite the fact that Rihanna has neither confirmed nor denied the rumors, that didn’t stop her die-hard fans from declaring her pregnancy all across social media.

I’m surprised Rihanna hasn’t responded yet with some joke blaming the thickness on eating good. Although Rihanna goes back and forth between wearing tight fitting and loose clothes. This combination of both does scream something may be going on.

Some women’s weight fluctuates within days just from poor diet or lack of exercise. That’s what I believe is going on. Ri has probably been just taking some down time to chill and enjoy life.

Plus if she’s pregnant, who is the baby daddy? Drake? LOL.

I remember an old interview where Rihanna said she wasn’t thinking about kids because she has too much to do. I’m willing to bet she’s still in this mindset.

Are we ready to see Ri in mommy mode? Carry on!

Jay Z’s Business Partner Accused Of Trashing A New York Recording Studio

(AllHipHop News) Jay Z’s business partner is being sued for $500,000 for allegedly wrecking a recording studio in New York.

Juan Perez, the president of Roc Nation Sports, is being sued by the landlord of the West 27th Street recording studio, which has been used by his famous business partner and his wife Beyonce.

The complaint, lodged by landlord Joel Berman in Manhattan Supreme Court, alleges executives of the Roc the Mic studio complex stopped paying rent and left the premises in 2015 in a damaged state with exposed wires and holes in the ceiling, rendering it unusable without repairs.

According to New York Post’s Page Six, Perez was the guarantor of the five-year lease which was signed on behalf of Roc the Mic in 2012 for the space.

Perez, the rapper’s longtime collaborator and co-founder of his 40/40 Club, is accused of removing electrical equipment from the studio and a prized New York Yankees uniform from baseball star Alex Rodriguez, whose current girlfriend Jennifer Lopez has also recorded there, that had been displayed on the wall.

“They basically trashed the place and left a lot of junk behind,” Berman’s lawyer Gil Santamarina told Page Six. “Joel has been unable to re-rent the space, in part because of the condition in which it was left.”

Berman is seeking $500,000 in damages from Perez.

Boosie BadAzz Calls Out This Rapper For Pushing The “Gay Agenda”

(AllHipHop Rumors) Lil Yachty is no stranger to controversy!

The rapper has been criticized for being a poster child for wack music, hated for claiming Tupac & Biggie were overrated, and he’s even faced much backlash for having a same sex couple kissing on his ‘Teenage Emotions’ album cover.

Well rapper Boosie has always be unapologetic about not accepting or believing in homosexuality, and in #PostAndDelete files, he let it be known again. Boosie posted,

“That’s two boys kissing on this album cover bro smh wtf.”

In the past Boosie has expressed that none of his children could come home and tell him that they are gay. He also blamed TV and the media for “forcing” the “gay agenda” on people, and he expressed his disapproval of homosexuality being “forced” onto children at a young age through these platforms.

What’s interesting is the fact that Boosie has seemingly expressed that while he doesn’t believe in homosexuality, he also doesn’t have a problem with the gay community. Hmmmmm.

Rebound! Is Nicki Minaj Using Nasty Nas To Get Back At Meek Mill

(AllHipHop Rumors) Word on the curb is that Nicki Minaj & Nas’ boo’d up status is all for show!!!

According to TheJasmineBrand, Nicki MiNAS’ publicity stunt of a relationship is more than just a stunt. It’s also allegedly a strategic scheme to make Meek Mill’s life a miserable hell.

“Nicki’s team is adamant in not allowing it to look like she took a loss in her beef with Remy Ma. She was really mad that her ex boyfriend (Safaree Samuels) went on Wendy Williams talking about their relationship. And she was even more livid when Rick Ross went on Wendy Williams talking about her relationship with Meek Mill. It just wasn’t a good look, but her team told her to act as if she was unbothered by it,” claims an insider.

The insider went on to say that Nicki’s team has encouraged her to keep in contact with Nas so it would be an ultimate win for her following the Remy Ma beef. Nicki has allegedly maintained that she’s not looking for a relationship right now, and apparently there haven’t really been any platonic sleepovers between Nicki and Nas either.

“She has never had a sleepover at his house. In fact, I think she was just humoring Ellen. You know to be tongue in cheek, but she has spent time with him. And no, they didn’t have sex, but they did do other things,” said the source.

Sources close to Nicki are basically claiming that Nas is Nicki’s pawn to not only get back at Remy Ma, but also to kill her ex Meek Mill’s self-esteem.

“Nas is her pawn to get back at Meek Mill. She wants people to think, ‘I upgraded and you [Meek] out here looking like you taking Ls now,” said the insider.

Nicki and Nas would probably never work. Nicki seems to crave attention, while Nas is extremely private and laid back. Poor Meeky. Nas is definitely an upgrade doe! What are your thoughts?

(AllHipHop News) Rap newcomer Lil Uzi Vert disappointed fans in Minnesota on Sunday (28May17) after failing to show up for his scheduled performance at the Soundset Festival.

The “Money Longer” star, who also features on Migos’ hit “Bad and Boujee,” joined the likes of Gucci Mane, T.I., Travis Scott, and Ty Dolla $ign on the bill for the 2017 hip-hop event, but he was a no-show – leaving fans fuming.

Many took to Twitter to vent about his unexpected absence.

“F##k Lil Uzi on some real s##t, can’t show up to Soundset?,” posted one attendee, while another protested, “Lil uzi not showing up to soundset really put a hurt in my day (sic)”.

The 22-year-old has yet to comment on the reason for skipping the set, but he wasn’t the only one to scrap a planned performance at Soundset – Mac Miller pulled out of the festival on Friday (May 26) to remain by his girlfriend Ariana Grande’s side following the bombing at her concert in Manchester, England on May 22, where 22 people were killed and many others injured.

Taylor Bennett Partners With Urban Outfitters For LGBTQ Pride Collection

(AllHipHop News) Earlier this year, Hip Hop artist Taylor Bennett announced on Twitter that he identifies as bisexual.

Chance The Rapper’s younger brother has now teamed up with Urban Outfitters to help foster pride in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning community.

All proceeds from the 7-piece UO Pride collection will benefit the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN), an organization dedicated to supporting the safety of LGBTQ students in schools across the country.

“I think we’re now starting to see a bigger wave of people wanting to stand together as a group and say ‘This is what I believe.’ We’re at the point now where you can do your thing and you can be accepted,” Taylor told Billboard. “If someone doesn’t want to accept you, then – pardon my language – f-ck ‘em. You’ve got to be yourself 24/7.”

LGBTQ rights are not the only social issues Bennett has championed as a public figure.

The Restoration Of An American Idol EP creator has also been working to combat youth homelessness in his hometown of Chicago.

“We’re working with La Casa Norte which is a shelter in Chicago. Homeless youth is a really big problem. When people think about homelessness, they don’t think about kids. Usually, they think about adults,” said Bennett in an AllHipHop.com interview in February.

He added, “But in fact, homelessness with kids is a huge epidemic, especially in Chicago. So I’ve been doing a lot of work to try to bring the city together and to make something happen.
