Living Legends MC Aesop The Black Wolf Has Died

The Hip-Hop community is mourning after Aesop of the Living Legends crew died suddenly over the weekend. Fellow Living Legend Sunspot Jonz posted about Aesop’s death on Instagram Monday morning (August 18). He wrote, “What an amazing ride we had. I just can’t believe you’re gone. I am Completely crushed -when I heard this morning I burst into tears cursing God because it just ain’t fair. Too soon to go.

“Wanted to go off on a few people around you -and will-they know who they are-but for now I’m gonna concentrate on all the light you gave. Your charisma, smile, the talent, the love you brought to our hearts will never be forgotten. Love you forever my brother Derrick.”

Eligh also shared an Instagram tribute to his longtime friend and Living Legends crewmate, reminiscing on their early days.

“No one made me laugh till I cried more times in my life than you. We shared couches, we were young, broke, making music with a shared affinity for the supernatural. We smoked beedees in Japan, we were on stage together all over the world. You had a huge heart. Emotional. Hard headed, and wouldn’t let anyone walk over you. I don’t think many people loved harder than you. My kids never met you. And for that I grieve.

“Almost 30 years since we recorded ‘It was a mission’ in Grouch’s basement, in 1996. You said some of the most outlandish one liners that will forever echo in the collective crews memory of you. Again, having all of us cry laughing. I will miss you greatly my brother, but you are with your pops now. I know his passing devastated you. And your music will always exist on Earth, as long as Earth remains man! I will honor your memory by living my life with a child like vigor, which you always embodied. I love you man..If you can, hit me up in a dream, and tell me what it’s like to be free.”

Aesop, also known as Aesop the Black Wolf, is a founding member of Living Legends. Originating in Los Angeles in the mid-1990s, Living Legends rose to prominence by embodying the indie rap ethos—recording, promoting and selling their music independently.

Aesop and the rest of the Legends—Murs, Luckyiam, Eligh, The Grouch, Sunspot Jonz, Bicasso and Scarub—helped pioneer the West Coast underground rap scene, building a massive grassroots following and influencing generations of independent artists. As part of Living Legends, Aesop contributed to critically acclaimed albums such as Angelz Wit Dirty Faces, Almost Famous and Creative Differences, each celebrated for its innovative lyrical content and collaborative spirit.

Aesop and Living Legends have been praised for their influential role in the indie-rap movement, earning accolades from publications like LA Weekly and maintaining a loyal fan base through continual touring and new releases, such as their 2023 album, The Return.

More recently, The Grouch announced his annual How The Grinch Stole Christmas Tour, which was expected to include all of the Living Legends, Cunninlynguists and Souls of Mischief. His cause of death has not been disclosed.

AllHipHop sends our condolences to Aesop’s loved ones.

Cardi B’s “Imaginary Playerz” Makes Underwhelming Spotify Debut—Despite JAY-Z Sample

Cardi B dropped her latest single “Imaginary Playerz” last week, but the track barely made a dent on the Spotify U.S. chart, debuting at a modest No. 147—an underwhelming showing for the Bronx rapper known for chart-topping hits. In fact, it’s nowhere to be found on Spotify global either and crawled on to Apple Music at No. 56.

The track, which samples JAY-Z’s 1997 classic “Imaginary Players,” is the fourth single from her long-awaited sophomore album, Am I The Drama. On the song, Cardi flexes her wealth and status, drawing comparisons between herself and other women in rap. “Imaginary Playerz” leans heavily into braggadocio, but early numbers suggest it hasn’t resonated with listeners the way her past releases have.

The video, however, appears to be making quite the impression, with more than 1.8 million YouTube views in the past two days.

The original “Imaginary Players” appeared on JAY-Z’s In My Lifetime, Vol. 1—which has actually seen a bump in streaming due to the song—and Cardi’s interpolation of the track was expected to generate buzz. Instead, the song’s lukewarm reception has raised questions about the momentum behind her upcoming project.

It’s been more than six years since Cardi released her debut album, Invasion of Privacy, which arrived in April 2018. That album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and moved 255,000 equivalent album units in its first week, according to Nielsen Music. The project spawned multiple hit singles and earned her a Grammy Award for Best Rap Album, making her the first solo female rapper to win in that category.

“Imaginary Playerz” follows a string of singles leading up to Am I The Drama, but its low placement on Spotify’s chart signals a rare misstep for Cardi, who’s typically a fixture in the top tier of streaming platforms.

As of Sunday (August 17), “Imaginary Playerz” has dropped off the Spotify U.S. chart completely.

50 Cent Says Goodbye To Starz After Terrible Ratings Report

50 Cent had a message for Starz after the network posted dismal subscriber numbers and a $42.5 million loss—he said “good bye” to the network.

The Hip-Hop mogul and executive producer took to social media to make his exit clear, writing, “It’s not that hard to say good bye. bye,” under a post about the network’s declining performance.

In addition to Fif constantly dragging the network that airs his shows, the second quarter of 2025 brought more bad news for Starz. U.S. streaming subscribers dropped from 13.04 million to 12.2 million, while total domestic customers fell by 410,000 to 17.6 million.

The company blamed the losses on its recent separation from Lionsgate and said it would no longer release international streaming figures.

Despite the downturn, Starz still leans heavily on programming tied to 50 Cent.

The network airs several of his shows, including the Power universe and BMF.

Power Book IV: Force is heading into its third and final season. In fact, Joseph Sikora, the star of the series, said season three would be worth the wait.

But behind the scenes, tensions between 50 Cent and Starz have been simmering for years. He has repeatedly criticized the network for delays, inconsistent scheduling and stalled renewals.

In 2022, 50 Cent announced he would take his content elsewhere, encouraging viewers to boycott Starz until his shows returned.

Though he remains executive producer on multiple titles under G-Unit Film & Television, he chose not to renew his deal with the network in 2022.

With subscriber losses mounting and 50 Cent walking away, the network’s future remains uncertain.

Tory Lanez’s Uncle Speaks Out After Appeal Hearing: “He Got The Short End Of The Stick”

Tory Lanez wasn’t in the courtroom for his latest appeal hearing on Tuesday (August 18) in Los Angeles, but his legal team and family made sure his voice was heard outside.

Attorney Crystal Morgan and Lanez’s uncle Speedy addressed reporters following oral arguments at the California Second District Court of Appeal, expressing optimism about the rapper’s chances of overturning his 2022 conviction for shooting Megan Thee Stallion.

“We knew the case. We presented the evidence. The justices really listened to us. They were really focused in. They took notes… It was just a matter of going and getting it done today,” Morgan told reporters, describing the panel’s engagement during the hearing.

Morgan argued that the trial was flawed, pointing to what she called improper use of emotional testimony and closing arguments that may have swayed the jury unfairly.

She added, “Convictions don’t always equal justice,” and claimed her client had been “hoodwinked” by the District Attorney’s office.

Outside the courthouse, Lanez’s uncle Speedy painted the Canadian artist as as a “problem solver” who chose to stay quiet.

“The best way to solve s### in Hollywood and everywhere else is just to shut the f### up and be quiet… He could’ve opened his mouth from the gate and said, ‘I didn’t do this s###.’ That’s what it was, the witness, everything,” Speedy said.

He also suggested the incident could have been resolved privately, saying Lanez and others “could have handled it themselves” without law enforcement stepping in.

Speedy echoed a theory floated by the defense that pointed the finger at Kelsey Harris, Megan’s former friend, suggesting she was the one who fired the gun following a drunken dispute involving Lanez.

“He got the short end of the stick,” Speedy said, insisting his nephew has a “big” heart and was unfairly treated throughout the case.

Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, is currently serving a 10-year sentence after being convicted in 2022 for shooting Megan Thee Stallion during a July 2020 altercation in Hollywood Hills.

His legal team is seeking to overturn the conviction, arguing that the trial judge made key errors that prejudiced the jury.

Tiffany Haddish’s Viral Baby Post Had Everyone Guessing—Here’s The Truth

Tiffany Haddish tackled baby buzz and Instagram confusion head-on Tuesday night during her guest-hosting stint on Jimmy Kimmel Live! after a cryptic photo sparked speculation she had secretly become a mom.

The Girls Trip star stirred up chatter earlier this month when she posted an Instagram photo of herself and longtime friend Jason Lee holding a baby, captioned, “Cats out of the bag.”

The vague post sent social media into overdrive, with some assuming she had quietly welcomed a child.

“There is a personal matter I feel must be addressed,” Haddish said during her opening monologue. “It made everyone go a little crazy… For some reason, people saw this (post) and thought I had a baby. There were articles about this everywhere.”

She didn’t stop at clarifying. The 45-year-old comedian leaned into the moment with her signature wit, adding, “Even my own relatives were asking if I had a secret child, which is kind of insulting because they are all living in my house and blocking me from getting any d**k.”

Pointing to Lee, who was seated in the audience, Tiffany Haddish explained, “We just took a picture with a baby and then that went crazy so now we got a godbaby.”

She then playfully teased him, “Jason, the offer is still on the table if you want to make a real baby,” prompting Lee to respond, “And I’m still gay.”

Haddish made sure to clear the air once and for all: “So just to be clear, I did not have a baby, but I am open to it. Wide open to it.” She then rattled off her fantasy list of potential baby daddies, which included Brad Pitt and Jason Momoa.

The actress was previously married to William Stewart from 2008 until filing for divorce in 2011. She also dated rapper and actor Common between 2020 and 2021.

Haddish has spoken publicly about her desire to adopt when she’s ready to “focus” and be “all the way present.”

Mo’Nique Blames Tyler Perry’s “God Complex” For Career Fallout & Lost Millions

Mo’Nique isn’t letting up on Tyler Perry, accusing him of sabotaging her career and costing her family millions during a blunt interview on “Outlaws with TS Madison.”

The Oscar-winning actress said Perry “cost my family millions and millions and millions of dollars,” and claimed a lie he allegedly spread derailed her career for over a decade. “That lie cost me 12 years of my career,” she said.

Mo’Nique demanded a public apology, stating, “You publicly shamed me. So now you have to publicly fix it.”

She also made it clear she won’t back down until that happens. “Until he fixes it, I will not stop. Because that’s how the monster is created.”

She went further, comparing Perry’s behind-the-scenes behavior to disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein.

“I’m saying Tyler Perry you will not do this to another as long as I can help it,” Mo’Nique added. “Because you told a lie. And you feel like you have the God complex. So I ain’t got to fix it. Either you’ll fix it in life or you’ll be dealt with in death. It’s totally up to you. But I’m not going nowhere.”

Mo’Nique also called out Oprah Winfrey, saying she’s equally responsible for the damage done to her reputation and livelihood.

“Oprah. I’m not going anywhere until y’all take accountability and fix it,” she stated. “Y’all messed with my livelihood, which messes with my family. Never would I do that to anyone.”

Mo’nique Wants Public Apology From Tyler Perry

When asked what resolution would look like, Mo’Nique pointed to her reconciliation with Lee Daniels, who publicly apologized to her in April 2022 during her comedy show in Staten Island.

“I am so sorry for hurting you in any way that I did,” Daniels said onstage. “My best friend… Y’all think that ‘Precious’ was just — that was God working, through both of us.”

The rift traces back to 2009, when Mo’Nique starred in Precious and later claimed she was blackballed by Perry and Winfrey after declining to promote the film for free and leaving them out of her Oscars acceptance speech.

Chrisean Rock’s New Man HoodTrophy Bino Claims Her Son As His Own While Defending Romance

Chrisean Rock’s new boyfriend, HoodTrophy Bino, didn’t flinch when asked during a livestream whether he’d help the reality TV star teach her son to walk—he claimed the toddler as his own and shut down talk that he’s just another name on her dating list.

“Yes. That’s my son,” Bino said Tuesday night (May 14) after a viewer asked, “You gone help Chrisean teach her son how to walk?”

The moment drew audible gasps from others off-camera, but Bino stayed composed.

When someone else chimed in with, “He’s her fourth man this year,” the Los Angeles rapper leapt to Rock’s defense.

“I’m her only man this year, y’all mind y’all f###### business,” he snapped.

He doubled down, saying, “I ain’t never dated nobody but Chrisean. Only girl I’ve ever been with in my whole life. That’s my life s### and I’m gone stand behind her … Man y’all pissing me off! Y’all better leave my wife alone.”

Chrisean Rock Debuts HoodTrophy Bino Relationship With Church Outing

The livestream came just days after the couple made their relationship public by showing up hand-in-hand at a church service on Sunday (August 17), both dressed in white.

Chrisean Rock later posted photos from the outing with captions like “I genuinely wanna see us win” and “I love LOVE you da best.”

Bino, who is signed to Soulja Boy’s label S.O.D.M.G., has worked with artists like Boosie Badazz and Mozzy. He’s from South Central Los Angeles and has been gaining traction in the Hip-Hop scene.

The romance follows Chrisean’s on-again-off-again relationship with rapper Blueface, the father of her son, born in September 2023.

Since then, she briefly dated NCAA basketball player Tytan Newton earlier this year, but that relationship ended by mid-May after she accused him of cheating.

Critics online have questioned the developmental progress of her son, but Chrisean has pushed back on those claims.

She’s said her child is “healthy and blessed” and denied rumors of health issues or blindness and stated that he can walk.

Kash Doll Reunites With Za’Darius Smith After Breakup In Romantic Island Getaway

Kash Doll and Za’Darius Smith sparked online buzz with a tropical reunion in St. Lucia just weeks after announcing their breakup, sharing affectionate vacation posts on Tuesday (August 19).

The rapper and NFL linebacker posted photos and videos from their Caribbean getaway, showing them cozying up and enjoying island life. Kash Doll captioned her post, “St.Lucia don’t owe me a damn thang and a damn thang don’t owe me Lucia.st.”

Smith chimed in with a poetic comment: “Baby let’s get fly and go to a new planet, we won’t see nobody.”

Their romantic retreat came less than two weeks after Kash Doll publicly declared the end of their relationship. Earlier this month, she tweeted, “At this point of my life I just need to be single.. Zadarius a great guy but we can’t see eye to eye and with all due respect we decided to part ways.” She followed up with, “I’m giving the internet a break also so I’m done with yall too right now.”

Smith confirmed the split with a subtle Instagram Story that read “Single” alongside a walking man emoji.

But the breakup didn’t last long. Days later, Kash Doll tweeted, “I love my mannnn,” hinting that things might not be over.

Their rekindled romance didn’t go unnoticed. One social media user commented, “That’s how a man apologize take you on a trip when you trippin.”

Another added, “See this why I stay outta rich people business.” A third brought up her ex and father of her children, rapper Tracy T, referencing his recent jab about tuition expenses: “Welp Tracy they gone need that other half on that tuition.”

Kash Doll and Smith went public with their relationship earlier in 2025, with family outings and public appearances, including birthday parties and Disney World trips.

Prince’s “Purple Rain” Co-Star Apollonia Sues Over Trademark Battle

Patty Kotero is taking legal action against Prince’s estate over the rights to the name, “Apollonia,” arguing that she’s been using it for decades without objection—until now.

The singer and actress filed a lawsuit Tuesday (August 19) in the Central District of California against Paisley Park Enterprises LLC, the business entity managing Prince’s estate.

At the heart of the dispute is ownership of the names “Apollonia” and “Apollonia 6,” both of which Kotero says she’s held trademarks for since 2016 and 2018, respectively.

According to court documents cited by Bloomberg Law, Kotero is asking the court to confirm her legal claim to the names and block the estate from interfering with her trademarks.

The filing came after the estate submitted its own applications in June 2025 to federally register “Apollonia” for clothing and entertainment services.

Along with that move, the estate also petitioned the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to cancel Kotero’s trademarks, citing contracts from the early 1980s.

Kotero pushed back in her complaint, stating that Prince never objected to her using the name during his lifetime, nor did anyone acting on his behalf.

Kotero also argues that any claims the estate may have had are no longer valid due to the statute of limitations and the estate’s long-standing acceptance of her professional identity.

The legal battle stems from her time starring alongside Prince in the 1984 film Purple Rain and performing as the lead singer of the group Apollonia 6, which was created by Prince.

Since then, she’s continued to use the name in performances and merchandise.

As of now, the estate has not issued a public response to the lawsuit.

Key Glock Caught Holding Hands With Love Island’s JaNa Craig In New York City

Key Glock raised eyebrows Tuesday (August 19) in New York City when JaNa Craig crashed his on-camera interview, grabbed his arm and asked, “You ready?” before the two walked off hand in hand.

Craig, 28, who rose to reality TV fame on Season 6 of Love Island USA, appeared mid-interview during Glock’s chat with TMZ, catching the Memphis rapper off guard.

She giggled, clung to his arm and smiled as Glock tried to block the camera with his hand.

When asked what was going on, Craig replied, “We just chilling,” while still holding Glock’s hand.

She denied being on a date, adding, “We just working.” Glock didn’t say a word during the exchange.

Moments later, Craig ended the interaction with, “We actually have to go,” and the two exited the scene together.

Later that evening, Craig’s Instagram Stories painted a different picture. After sharing several videos with Glock’s music playing in the background, she posted a clip of a romantic rooftop setting. Another featured a bouquet of red roses with a card that read “to Jana.”

The public outing comes less than a month after Craig’s split from Kenny Rodriguez, her former Love Island partner.

The two dated for over a year after finishing third on the show in 2024 and later appeared on the spin-off Love Island: Beyond the Villa.

Craig ended the relationship in July and later addressed the breakup on social media, writing, “Please know that I have seen all the breakup theories and none have matched up to how terrible, disgusting and disappointing it truly is.”

While Craig didn’t name specifics, several of her former castmates accused Rodriguez of racism, clout-chasing and infidelity. Craig has not confirmed those claims.

Drake & Adin Ross Cover Funeral Costs For French Streamer After Tragic Livestream Death

Drake and Adin Ross have pledged to pay for the funeral of French streamer Jean Pormanove after his death during a 10-day live marathon on Kick that allegedly involved abuse and coercion.

The 46-year-old content creator, whose real name was Raphaël Graven, died in his sleep on Monday (August 18) while participating in a prolonged and controversial broadcast known for pushing creators into humiliating and dangerous stunts.

A post shared by JPF Jean Pormanove (@jeanpormanove)

The stream, hosted on Kick, has drawn widespread criticism for promoting harmful behavior under the guise of entertainment.

“I just spoke with Drake,” Ross wrote on X (Twitter). “Drake and I will be covering the funeral costs, this won’t bring his life back, it’s the least we can do. Prayers go out to Jean’s family.”

Ross also condemned the circumstances surrounding the streamer’s death. “This is horrible and disgusting,” he added. “Whoever was apart of this deserves to face severe consequences.”

Clips from the stream circulating online show Pormanove being subjected to disturbing treatment, including being shot with paintballs, choked, forced to ingest unknown substances and deprived of sleep.

French authorities are now investigating whether criminal behavior was involved.

According to reports, Pormanove had messaged his mother during the stream, saying he felt like he was being “held hostage” and was experiencing heart issues.

French digital affairs and AI minister Clara Chappaz called the situation an “absolute horror,” adding, “Jean Pormanove was humiliated and mistreated for months live on the Kick platform.”

The prosecutor’s office in Nice confirmed that both a criminal investigation and a review of the platform’s role are underway.

Meanwhile, Kick said it is “urgently reviewing” its content policies in response to public outrage.

As of Tuesday (August 20), autopsy results have not been released, and authorities have not officially determined whether foul play led to Pormanove’s death.

EXCLUSIVE: R. Kelly Fails At Attempt To Boot Prosecutors From His Case

R. Kelly failed to convince a federal judge in Chicago to disqualify the entire U.S. Attorney’s Office from his case, with the court ruling his accusations lacked credible evidence.

U.S. District Judge Martha Pacold denied the singer’s motion, calling it an “extreme” and “drastic” request based on speculation rather than proof.

R. Kelly had argued the prosecutors in the Northern District of Illinois could not fairly handle his post-conviction proceedings due to alleged misconduct and internal conflicts.

“To warrant such an extraordinary intrusion into the affairs of a coequal branch as the disqualification of an entire USAO, a defendant must make an equally extraordinary showing. Kelly’s motion does not meet that standard,” Judge Pacold said.

Kelly claimed that a former prosecutor involved in his case had committed misconduct and that the remaining staff could not be impartial. However, the judge noted that the individual he accused no longer works for the office and that Kelly himself admitted the current prosecutor on the case did not engage in wrongdoing.

The court emphasized that removing an entire U.S. Attorney’s Office is a rare move.

Kelly’s legal team, led by attorney Beau Brindley, had filed the motion in June. They alleged misconduct, conflicts of interest and even possible criminal behavior by at least one former prosecutor.

Brindley argued the office could not be trusted to investigate itself and requested that the Department of Justice in Washington or another district step in.

R. Kelly is currently serving a 30-year sentence at FCI Butner in North Carolina following his 2022 conviction on federal charges involving child pornography and obstruction of justice. The Seventh Circuit upheld his conviction in 2024.

He is now pursuing a new trial, citing constitutional violations and claims of government misconduct.

His team alleges federal officials conspired to derail his defense, including stealing legal mail, coercing testimony, and even plotting to have him killed.

The government has until October 16, 2025, to respond to Kelly’s motion for a new trial.

Colin Kaepernick’s ESPN Documentary With Spike Lee Was Shelved, But Why?

Colin Kaepernick was set to have a docuseries chronicling his long fight against police brutality, but ESPN has reportedly shelved the project. The series, produced by Spike Lee, was expected to shine a spotlight on Kaepernick’s activism and his battles both on and off the field. Instead, it’s been scrapped with little explanation. All Spike Lee would say is that the project isn’t coming out due to “creative differences.”

That’s a thin statement for something this significant. No details, no context, just those two words. Which makes me wonder—was this really a matter of clashing creative visions, or something bigger?

Here’s where speculation creeps in. Kaepernick has always been a lightning rod, and we’re still in a Trump-era climate where free speech and uncomfortable truths are often stifled. So the theory floating around is that ESPN might have intentionally shelved this. Maybe they bought the project with good intentions at first but later decided it was too messy to release.

READ ALSO: Spike Lee Reverses Course On Saying Goodbye To Denzel Washington

Hollywood plays this game all the time. Studios will spend millions to buy a film, only to lock it away so no one else can touch it. It’s not just about creativity. It’s about control. And with the NFL actively trying to repair its image, this series would have been a headache. Imagine if a Spike Lee-directed project laid bare the politics and pressure that essentially pushed Kaepernick out of football. That would be an ugly stain the league couldn’t scrub off.

Jay-Z and Roc Nation have been working overtime to push the narrative that real change has occurred since the Kaepernick situation. Meanwhile, Kaepernick’s camp has said the opposite, insisting he was shut out of the league for taking a knee. If this docuseries connected too many dots, it could have blown that debate wide open in ways the NFL doesn’t want.

So when I hear “creative differences,” I can’t help but roll my eyes. This wasn’t about art direction or editing choices. This wasn’t a Marvel movie or a Tim Burton flick. This was about business, politics, and damage control, in my view. Whether ESPN caved to pressure from the NFL or simply decided the project was bad for business, I doubt it was ever truly about “creativity.”

At the very least, I hope Spike and Kaepernick got fully paid for their work. Because even if the world never sees this series, the energy, time, and story behind it deserve to mean something.

BabyChiefDoIt Defends His Use Of ChatGPT—Slams Critics For “Taking It Out Of Context”

BabyChiefDoIt fired back at criticism over his use of ChatGPT to assist with lyrics, claiming his words were misinterpreted and insisting he’s still the mastermind behind his pen.

“If ChatGPT was the solution 2 all my problems Y in the absolute f#ck would I give yall the sauce,” he posted to his Instagram Story, doubling down on his creative control.

The backlash erupted after the rising Chicago drill artist told Power 105.1 that he’s been using ChatGPT to help finish songs.

“I’ve been using that s### to write my lyrics, real s###,” he admitted. “That s### works.” He clarified that he doesn’t copy the AI-generated lyrics word-for-word, saying, “It was some, you know, some s### that I could pull out of.”

A post shared by Complex Music (@complexmusic)

Still, the internet didn’t hold back. Critics accused him of compromising the authenticity of rap.

“Using AI like this will lead to the downfall of the entire music industry. Where is the creativity?” one commenter wrote. Another added, “Man I’d rather write bars off the dome than do s### like this. Where’s the soul & personality to the lyrics? Where’s the authenticity?”

Someone close to the rapper, possibly a team member, even stepped in to caution him about how he presents himself in interviews. “We gotta make sure we always position things from the drivers seat. We don’t wanna make it seem like you’re not a real writer and lyricist cause you are. People think you got ghost writers now,” they said. “We never wanna discredit ourselves.”

BabyChiefDoIt, who gained traction with his single “Went West,” has been carving out a name in the drill scene with his raw delivery and catchy hooks. His recent feature on Chance the Rapper’s new album, STAR LINE,—on the track “Drapetomania”—was expected to be a breakout moment, but the AI controversy has cast a shadow over the buzz.

He later mocked the outrage by prompting ChatGPT to call him the “dopest writer,” joking that he doesn’t need artificial intelligence to prove his skills.

Offset’s New Album Ends With Message To Cardi B

Offset is ending his upcoming solo album KIARI with a song that marks the final page of his relationship with Cardi B, calling it a peaceful send-off to their rocky marriage.

The final track, titled “Move On,” reflects the Migos rapper’s decision to address their split head-on in music as he prepares for the release of his third solo project.

Speaking to the Associated Press, Offset explained the motivation behind the song, saying, “It’s about moving on, like, peacefully. That’s what the message is supposed to be. It’s all love and peace. I just ended the album with that, just to end that chapter because it’s time to move on, it’s over and done with.”

Offset described the process of writing “Move On” as a therapeutic way to close out a turbulent chapter in his personal life.

The couple first tied the knot in 2017, but the relationship was marked by multiple breakups and reconciliations. Cardi initially filed for divorce in 2020, and after a brief reunion, she filed again in 2024.

The pair share three children: 7-year-old Kulture, 3-year-old Wave and 11-month-old Blossom.

Reflecting on the marriage, Offset told AP, “It was great while it lasted. That shouldn’t be the topic for either one of us no more. It’s a book that’s closed.”

Cardi B confirmed she had moved on in June, posting a photo of herself lounging on a yacht with NFL player Stefon Diggs, further signaling the end of her chapter with Offset.

KIARI is set to drop on August 22.

Gervonta Davis Dodges Charge Of Beating Ex-Girlfriend After She Refuses To Snitch

Gervonta Davis dodged a battery charge in Miami after his ex refused to talk, leaving prosecutors with nothing to work with to pursue the case.

Back in July, cops cuffed the boxing champ after his ex claimed he smacked her during a heated exchange while they were swapping custody of their two kids.

The alleged fight happened on June 15, and she told police Davis hit the back of her head and slapped her face. She later went to the hospital.

But when it came time to take it to court, things fell apart fast.

According to a closeout memo dated August 11 obtained by Local10 the woman and her lawyer told the State Attorney’s Office she didn’t want to press charges and wasn’t scared of Davis.

She also made it clear she wasn’t being pressured or bribed to stay quiet.

With no witness and no statement, the case had no legs. The judge tossed it on August 12.

The cop who showed up to the scene didn’t see the fight, so there was no firsthand police testimony either. The only other possible witness—the woman’s mom—also stayed quiet.

Davis got booked on July 11 and bailed out the same day after posting $10,000. But without cooperation from the alleged victim, the whole thing fizzled out.

The woman reportedly told authorities the fight was tied to personal issues and stress over their kids. A police report said there had been around 10 other incidents between them, but none were officially documented.

This isn’t Davis’s first time dealing with accusations. He’s had other battery charges in the past, but this one officially got wiped off the board in August.

Remixing 101: The Fundamental Concepts

Before learning the tools and processes, you need to grasp what remixing is and how it differs from other forms of music creation. These fundamentals will help you make better creative decisions and build a professional remix.

Remix vs. Cover vs. Edit

Remixes use original vocals or instrumentals and modify genre, pace, or structure. Covers are re-recorded versions of songs with the same words and melody. An edit involves minor changes like expanding the intro or rearranging the order without changing the core.

Key Terminology You Need to Know

  • BPM: Track pace. Remixing requires BPM matching.
  • Key: Song scale. By staying in key, your remix sounds harmonically perfect.
  • Stems: Song pieces like vocals, percussion, bass, etc., are utilized for remixing. For advanced stem separation, try the AI stem splitter to isolate individual instruments.
  • Acapella: A vocal-only version with high remix popularity.
  • Samples: Pre-recorded sounds or loops used in remixes to add flair.

Choosing the Right Song to Remix

Start with a song you love that features stems or acapella sounds for creative versatility. For extra experimentation, choose a tune with a clear vocal line and little clutter. Remixes of popular, emotive songs usually do better. To verify remix compatibility, use EaseUS BPM Key Finder to check the song’s BPM and key.

How to Remix a Song: Full Tips

Remixing a song requires structure, timing, and precision, not simply originality. Understanding the stages and employing the correct tools may make your club remix, lo-fi version, or experiment impressive.

  1. Create Remix of Songs

Once done, this is the time to actually get your hands into the song and create a remix. Different techniques can be used as per your knowledge and comprehension of the tracks. However, the most efficient method is to discover the tune and apply it in your remix.

How to Remix a Song for Beginners

Let’s apply remix theory to practice. After learning about BPM and stems, this section explores real-world processes using three common tools. Beginners may remix using FL Studio, Ableton Live, and iPhone GarageBand.

Please share this tutorial if you find these remixing methods helpful and encourage others to attempt them.

  1. Make a song remix in FL Studio

FL Studio is ideal for Windows and macOS users who demand creative autonomy. This is a simple way to remix from scratch.

Step 1. Loading the original song

Launch FL Studio and create a project. Click “File > Import > Audio File” and choose your music. The playlist view shows a waveform. Use “Extract Stems from Sample” to separate elements like vocals and instruments. Loop useful parts, such as a four-bar intro.

Step 2. Slicing and arranging song sections

Select to divide the music into logical 4-bar pieces (intro, verse, chorus). Move pieces to new Playlist tracks to repeat sections creatively.

Step 4: Mixing and Mastering

Blend instrument levels in the Mixer, compress drums, and restrict the Master track. When finished, export your remix as WAV or MP3.

  1. Mix a song legally in Ableton Live.

Want a simple DAW with smooth stems and automation? The remixing features in Ableton Live are powerful, especially with replaceable stems. Follow the steps:

Step 1. Key/Tempo identification

Use EaseUS BPM Key Finder to locate the song’s original key and BPM before importing stems. Introduced earlier

Step 2. Getting Stem

Official stems (vocals, drums, keys) simplify and legalize remixing. Many artists provide them. Voclr.it and other public acapella libraries assist.

Step 3. Stem Import

Drag stems from Finder or Explorer into “Arrangement View” with Live open. Drop each stem onto its track using “Ctrl/Command.” Turn off “Auto-Warp Long Samples” in “Preferences.” Stay on time by recording Warp Launch. Turn off Warp or use Complex Warp mode to avoid tempo drift and timing issues.

Step 5. Add Bassline and Drums

Make beats in Ableton’s Drum Rack and add bassline patterns to MIDI songs below the chord channels.

Alt: adding drums

Step 6. Remix Structure

Arrange intro, build-up, drop, etc. in Arrangement View. Intro, breakdown, drop, and outro are common EDM remixes. Use color-coded clips to organize your mashup.

Step 7. Adding effects

Support rhythmic movement using audio snippets of “uplitters,” transitions, or ambient noise. In Ableton Browser, navigate to the “Sounds” tab and select FX tools like risers or impacts.

Step 8. Mixing/Mastering

Stock audio effects can balance levels, pan instruments, EQ bottom frequencies, and restrict or compress.

  1. Remix an iPhone song in GarageBand

Transitioning without a computer? GarageBand on iPhone simplifies remixing for mobile creativity. Follow the steps to remix FX Remix:

Step 1. Create a song from scratch

On your iPhone or iPad, get GarageBand from the App Store and install it. Open it, then tap on the + icon to start a new project.

How to Remix a Song FAQs

Below we have a list of the most asked questions about how to remix a song:

  1. Can I get in trouble for remixing a song without permission?

Yes, you can. If you publish or distribute a remix without authorization, you may face legal penalties. Sharing the remix on YouTube or SoundCloud might lead to copyright takedowns or litigation, even if you’re not generating money. Use Dubset or Tracklib for licensing or permission to avoid potential issues. Although not protected, it’s safer for educational or private use. You must research copyright laws to remix legally and respect the original creator’s rights.

  1. How much of a song can I use legally?

The misconception that utilizing a few seconds of music is legal is false. Copyright law does not define “safe” seconds or percentages. Small, recognized samples might require clearance. Use royalty-free material or a license for safety. However, “fair use,” a legal defense, is not a right and depends on how you utilize the information. Create safe remixes by following licensing regulations or utilizing approved audio.

  1. What’s the difference between a bootleg and a remix?

An officially approved remix changes pace or voice with the rights holder’s approval. Legal and issued by record labels or approved artists. However, a bootleg is an unauthorised remix or alteration. DJ culture shares these informally, but they’re illegal. Bootlegs risk takedowns or fines when played in live shows or uploaded on copyright-free platforms. Authorization distinguishes remixes from bootlegs.

EXCLUSIVE: Druski Gets Win In Diddy Baby Oil Lawsuit As Judge Threatens Lawyers

Druski scored a legal win in a high-profile sexual assault lawsuit tied to Diddy, after a federal judge warned the plaintiff’s attorneys they could be penalized for continuing to pursue claims against the comedian despite overwhelming proof he wasn’t there.

The lawsuit, filed by Ashley Parham, accuses Diddy and several others of a violent gang rape at a 2018 party in Orinda, California.

Parham alleges Druski covered her in baby oil or lubricant and used her body “like a slip and slide” during the attack. She also claims Diddy recorded the assault and threatened her afterward.

Druski, who was not part of the entertainment industry at the time, has denied any involvement.

On Tuesday (August 19), U.S. District Judge Rita F. Lin ruled that while lawyers had some basis to name Druski in the amended complaint filed in March 2025, their refusal to drop him after clear-cut evidence emerged could lead to sanctions.

His legal team submitted phone and bank records showing he was in Georgia on March 23, 2018 — the night of the alleged assault. His debit card was used in the Atlanta area and all phone activity originated from Georgia that day.

Despite the documentation, Parham’s attorneys told the court in July they had “no desire to dismiss” Druski from the case.

Judge Lin said that the stance “appears to lack any reasonable basis” in light of the evidence and ordered the lawyers to explain why they shouldn’t face sanctions.

The court gave the legal team until September 9 to justify their actions or voluntarily remove Druski from the lawsuit. Failing to do so could result in dismissal of the claims against him and a possible order to pay his legal fees.

Druski previously called the accusations “fabricated lies” and said, “I have never met any of the individuals involved. I was not in California at the time of the alleged incident.”

The original complaint also named Odell Beckham Jr., who also denied any involvement.

Parham’s legal representation is being led by attorney Ariel Mitchell, who is also facing separate legal trouble.

Diddy has filed a $100 million defamation lawsuit against Mitchell and Newsmax, accusing them of spreading false and malicious claims to damage his reputation.

Hip-Hop Amid Turmoil: Fat Joe Faces Shocking $20M Sex Exploitation Lawsuit

Hip-hop heavyweight Fat Joe, known for his chart-topping hits like “All the Way Up”, now finds himself at the center of a disturbing legal storm.

A $20 million lawsuit was filed in June by his former hype man, Terrance “T.A.” Dixon. If these allegations are proven, they could reshape the landscape of power dynamics in the music industry.

While various artists in this genre have faced controversy over the years in relation to sex scandals or hiring escorts while on tour, this latest scandal has become huge news within the industry. The shocking allegations have been denied by the star, with his legal team claiming it is a ‘retaliatory smear campaign’.

Allegations of Coercion and Psychological Abuse

According to court documents filed in the Southern District of New York, Dixon—who worked as Fat Joe’s hype man, lyricist, background vocalist, and bodyguard for nearly two decades—claims that Fat Joe orchestrated a “culture of dominance and humiliation.”

He alleges that he was coerced into performing approximately 4,000 sex acts with women while Joe and others watched—on yachts, hotel rooms, and even international locations such as Spain and Germany. These acts, Dixon says, were not for gratification but as a means of psychological control.

In one particularly disturbing incident, Dixon alleges that when he resisted an assigned encounter, Fat Joe canceled his flight home, leaving him stranded and financially crippled. Dixon says the repeated abuse resulted in severe mental health consequences, including PTSD and anxiety.

Perhaps most chilling, the complaint includes claims that Dixon witnessed sexual activity involving underage girls, including 15- and 16-year-olds—allegations that Fat Joe’s attorney has called categorically false.

Fat Joe’s defense, led by attorney Joseph Tacopina, characterizes the lawsuit as a retaliatory move aimed at money and attention, following a prior lawsuit Joe filed against Dixon for extortion and defamation. Tacopina disparaged the allegations as “fabrications” and stated that Joe will “not be intimidated.”

Despite this vehement denial, the case has already cast a long shadow over Fat Joe’s reputation. The lawsuit also names Roc Nation, the artist’s entertainment company, accusing them of having knowledge—or the duty to know—about Dixon’s royal rights as a co-author and the alleged abusive conduct.

A Turning Point in Hip-Hop Accountability

This lawsuit emerges amid a growing wave of scrutiny surrounding systemic abuses within the music industry, particularly hip-hop. With the high-profile Diddy trial and other legal entanglements still fresh in public consciousness, the Fat Joe case underscores a critical turning point: scrutiny of abuse is not limited to headline-making celebrities but extends to the entire machinery behind the scenes.

What’s Next?

The coming months will be pivotal. As Fat Joe prepares his defense—potentially using the defamation case as a counterweight—the court will examine whether allegations of coercion and sexual exploitation can be substantiated. Meanwhile, the industry watches closely, knowing that accountability may no longer rest solely on artists themselves, but also on those wielding power behind the mic.

Kanye West Banned From Prague Performance As Citizens Protest His Praise Of Hitler

Kanye West was swiftly shut down by Prague’s mayor after thousands of Czech citizens signed a petition demanding the city block him from any potential performance over his public praise of Adolf Hitler and use of Nazi imagery.

Almost 15,000 people signed the petition urging Prague officials to stop West from performing in the Czech capital, citing his recent song “Heil Hitler,” merchandise featuring swastikas and his repeated glorification of Nazi crimes.

The petition argued that allowing the rapper to perform would dishonor Holocaust victims and risk drawing extremist groups into the city.

“There is no requirement for us to hold such a concert and if we were asked to do so, we would not do it,” Prague Mayor Zdeněk Hřib said, backing the public outcry.

His deputy for culture, Jiří Pospíšil, was even more direct.

“Prague is not a place to celebrate Nazism. We experienced the horrors of World War II firsthand, and now we should not give space to people who glorify these crimes,” He said. “I am strongly against Kanye West performing in Prague. A person who does not hide his admiration for Hitler has no business in Prague!”

West’s behavior has already led to the cancellation of a major Slovakian Hip-Hop festival he was set to headline earlier in 2025. Organizers are now reportedly eyeing Prague as the replacement venue.

Earlier this year, Kanye West’s Australian visa was revoked by the Department of Home Affairs due to his release of the song “Heil Hitler.” The track glorifies Nazi leader Adolf Hitler and promotes Nazism.

The visa cancellation followed a series of antisemitic remarks and Nazi praise made by West on social media, including declaring himself a Nazi.

Atmosphere, Fashawn, Souls Of Mischief: Hip-Hop Mourns Aesop Of Living Legends

The Hip-Hop community suffered a monumental blow on Monday (August 18), when it was discovered Aesop of the Living Legends had died. The veteran West Coast MC, originally from Fresno, California, helped establish the blueprint to successfully navigating an independent rap career.

Naturally, his Living Legends brethren are in a deep state of mourning, still coming to terms with their new reality. After all, the Living Legends are booked for several high profile gigs, including a show at the historic Red Rocks Amphitheater on September 19 with Atmosphere, Dilated Peoples, Cunninlynguists, Immortal Technique and Hieroglyphics.

Just weeks before Aesop’s unexpected passing, The Grouch also announced his annual How the Grouch Stole Christmas Tour with Living Legends, Cunninlynguists and Souls of Mischief on the bill, something Aesop was really looking forward to. As he mentioned in the caption, “Gone end this year on a good note.”

As the news continues to ripple across social media, several of Aesop’s peers have expressed their condolences and sorrow, including Planet Asia, Slug of Atmosphere, Pigeon John, Percee P, Project Blowed and Fashawn.

“I have known @blackaesop since I was 15 years old,” Planet Asia wrote in an Instagram post. “He is a member of my original crew, SKHOOL YARD MASSIVE. We all are going to miss joking and arguing with you bro. I was woken up to the calls from my brothers @559shakedamayor and T CARTER giving me the sad news. REST IN POWER FAM. Feels like i’m at the end of a dope ass movie cause now we are missing another one of our main characters. PEACE TO THE LIVING LEGEND FROM THE YARD!!!”

Fashawn, who hails from Fresno as well, wrote simply, “AESOP FOREVER.”

It’s unclear how Living Legends will handle their tour plans. The group’s latest album, The Return, was released in 2023. Many of the Legends have continued releasing solo projects, including The Grouch, who dropped The 50-Year-Old Rapper in May.

JAY-Z Could Be Plotting His Musical Return—Memphis Bleek Spills On “Drink Champs”

JAY-Z and the word “retirement” have never truly mixed, but it’s been eight years since his last solo album, 4:44, changed the conversation around grown-man rap. That 2017 record cemented his role as the elder statesman of Hip-Hop, a mogul who could rap about wealth, mistakes and redemption without losing his edge. Now, whispers suggest the Roc Nation founder may be sharpening his pen again.

In a fresh interview, longtime collaborator Memphis Bleek claimed Hov is back in the booth. “He’s recording,” Bleek said on the Drink Champs podcast. “Whether or not we hear it, is another story.”

The Brooklyn native also revealed he asked his mentor for a verse and Jay’s response was simple: “He has me.”

The rumor comes at a time when Jay has been spotted onstage with Beyoncé during her global run, sliding into verses that sent fans into a frenzy. Those brief appearances sparked rumors that the billionaire rapper might finally be gearing up for a project after years of focusing on business, philanthropy and family.

Memphis Bleek said similar things in the past, but this Drink Champs interview feels different. As you know, that’s a show famous for letting liquor loosen the lips. Pause. Some may question whether Jay is actually plotting an official return, because time has changed so much. He may just be laying down verses here and there. Still, Bleek has rarely spoken without reason. They might be seeding the landscape.

The timing feels right too. Beyoncé has wrapped her latest tour, the Carters’ children are heading back to school, and JAY-Z has been unusually quiet in an industry where silence often signals a storm brewing. The chatter could also redirect attention away from gossip about his personal life and back to the music that made him one of rap’s most enduring figures.

If 4:44 was the confessional, maybe the next chapter will be the celebration. Fans have waited nearly a decade for another full-length from Hov. Whether it comes this year, next year or never at all, the possibility alone is enough to remind everyone why JAY-Z’s name still holds weight.
