Beyoncé Joins TikTok

Beyoncé has officially joined TikTok!

The BeyHive lost its collective mind Thursday night (Dec 16.) when the superstar singer joined the video-sharing platform. While she is yet to share her first post, Bey’s official account amassed more than 70,000 followers in the first few hours.

While many eagerly anticipated Queen Bey’s first post, others were concerned that she would only be using the account for promotion for Ivy Park, her clothing label.

“Beyoncé waking up to 1 million followers on TikTok knowing damn well she’s only releasing an Ivy Park teaser:”

However, shortly after news of Beyoncé’s new social media presence emerged, came the announcement that Ivy Park also has an official TikTok account.

While Bey has yet to post content, Ivy Park features content from the recent Ivy Park X Adidas collections, “HALLS of IVY” and “PELOTON.”

All You Need to Know About Hip Hop Fashion in 2022

Music and fashion have always offered mutual support. Hip-hop music, mostly enjoyed by younger generations, tends to bring new fashion trends in-game. From multi-finger rights, gold necklaces, and sunglasses, up to tennis shoes, hoodies, flannel over shirts, and large spectacles – these are all good examples of classic hip hop fashion.

And while many of the basics are present, new fashion hip hop trends are already present or announced for the upcoming 2022. Many contemporary hip-hop performers and artists lead the trends. From oversized pants with huge pockets and military elements to neon-bright colors and tons of accessories – we will be seeing all of this in the upcoming year. But to put in a context, there are a few trends that will be big throughout 2022:

Every Color is On

Conventional wisdom in the fashion world is that if you select one print, the next thing you do is to balance it with subtle solids and neutral pieces. Now, many performers and show-goers are bringing the opposite: they are wearing all at once. Their boldest, brightest, and probably most beloved prints, all are worn at once. That being said, crimson, sky, burgundy, olive, and citron; all these colors will be highly present in the 2022 collections, painting streets with tons of bright and noticeable colors.

Accessories on a Different Level

Every fashion trend, just like every music genre, brings its recognizable accessories. The hip-hop world, for the past few years, and moving even stronger in 2022, has been doing some fashionable fun – bringing pearls to the scenes. For hundreds of years, pearls have been exclusively considered the classic women’s accessory. But now, singers, rappers, and actors have been embracing pearl necklaces with many different outfits. From sleek fancy suits to everyday tees and cool athleisure. Be ready to see pearls more and more into the men’s world.

Denim Still Goes Strong

Denim had a strong part of the classic trends in the 90s and 2000s. From trucker hats to oversized jeans, there is almost no picture where you will not see denim. Two decades later, the denim is once again walking strong, though mostly in the form of skinny jeans, ripped jeans, or even acid wash jeans. With 2022 in front of our doors, denim will be additionally present in more hip-hop videos, fashion catwalks, and of course, the streets.

Sleeveless Fashion

Tank tops have always been present in the hip-hop world. But now, sweater vests are also coming back, but not only in that monochrome and simple form. From shades of blue and green mixed with pink and gold, up to tight pieces layered on T-shirts. Sleeveless might not be the most common yet, but it will be far more present than before.

As you see, a lot of fashion trends are coming back. And while fashion history might not fully repeat itself, check your wardrobe if you are still keeping those 90s favorite pieces of clothes.

Roddy Ricch Drops “LiveLifeFast” Featuring Future, Lil Baby, 21 Savage & More

Roddy Ricch has dropped his sophomore album titled “LiveLifeFast.”

The 25-song project features appearances from Future, Lil Baby, 21 Savage, Kodak Black, Jamie Foxx, Ty Dolla Sign, Gunna, Fivio Foreign, Bibi Bourelly, Takeoff, and Alex Isley.

Earlier this month, Roddy Ricch revealed the record’s cover art inspired by the late, great Nipsey Hussle.

Ricch collaborated with Nip on Grammy Award-winning “Racks in the Middle” with Hit-Boy back in February 2019. The single was Nipsey’s last before he was shot and killed on March 31, 2019

During an interview, the Compton rapper opened up about the first time he met Nipsey.

“I met him plenty of times, before anything,” Roddy Ricch told Variety. “He’d be in the streets for real. If he was certain places and you see him, he’d say what’s up. It wasn’t the Marathon store at the time but that shopping center, I believe something was going on in that neighborhood and I met him as a young kid. Always seen him around. As I got older and grown into my own, then the relationship created. I was maybe 18 when I officially hung out with him, then just grew from there.”

He continued, “Just in his actions, he really put his people in positions to win. Everybody around him felt the sense of needing to hustle and succeed, and that was a great attribute to have as a person. Or you can drive people around you to have added attributes to their personality, that’s a good characteristic. Not a lot of people can do that, when you can make other people shine greater than your light.”

“Spider-Man: No Way Home” Is An Instant Classic

By Chris “Boogie” Brown

“Spiderman: No Way Home” is the latest entry in the Spiderman film franchise and the third installment in the Jon Watts-directed trilogy. This has been one of the year’s most anticipated films and I can confidently say that it more than lives up to the lofty expectations that were set upon it. Because of the sheer amount of surprises in this film, I will keep the synopsis VERY vague and cover nothing more than what has been seen in the trailers.

This film takes place in the broader MCU and picks up right from the end of 2019’s “Spiderman: Far From Home”. If you recall, by the end of that film, Spiderman’s true identity of Peter Parker has been revealed to the public and has caused quite the predicament for our web slinging hero. Because of publicized attention and scrutiny he and anyone associated with him is now receiving, Peter desires for a way to somehow remove his revealed identity from the subconsciousness of the masses and make them forget who he truly is: Enter Dr. Strange.

Peter asks the Sorcerer to cast a spell that will somehow make people forget his true identity that was revealed. After some persuasion, Dr. Strange agrees to cast a spell for this purpose but there is a mishap in its execution. This mishap unknowingly leads to the opening of other universes which leads to the arrival of a certain group of villanous characters from the previous two Spiderman film franchises aka the multiverse. Spiderman now finds himself confronted against a set of mysterious villians he has no knowledge of but who all appear to be very familiar with him. After being transported into the MCU as we know it, this set of villians begin to wreak havoc, chaos and ultimately force Peter to confront and embrace what it truly means to be “Spiderman.”

I found “Spiderman: No Way Home” to be an amazing “event level” film that brings together the Spiderman film franchises in a much greater way than I ever imagined! With so many unique elements, characters, and concepts to juggle, it would have been easy for this film to feel convoluted and jumbled. However, director Jon Watts found a way to make this film feel very streamlined with elements of rich storytelling, strong character development, heartfelt emotion, stunning action, nostalgia and more! The movie has a lengthy 2.5 hour runtime, but the time honestly seems to fly by as the engrossing story keeps you invested as it builds to its amazing third act crescendo.

In terms of the performances, the recoccuring cast of characters from the previous two films step their game up here and are given much more to do. Zendaya’s role as Peter’s love interest, “MJ”, carries much more weight in this film and Marissa Tomei is also given a much more substantial role as “Aunt May”. Jon Favreau returns as ‘Happy” and to the delight of many long time fans, the great J.K. Simmons reprises his role of “J. Jonah Jameson” from the Sam Raimi trilogy. However, the film’s lead, Tom Holland, is the true anchor of the film and continues to excel in the role of “Peter Parker/Spiderman”

Glorious spider man GIF on GIFER - by Kelen

“No Way Home” finds Holland’s “Peter Parker” appearing much more grounded and mature in this latest outing. Holland’s performance here shows tremendous range and he completely rises to the occasion of handling the more darker and emotional aspects of the story. In addition, the chemistry he shares with his co-stars Zendaya and Jacob Batalon (“Ned”) has never been better and simply feels much more organic this go around. Lastly, the performances of the actors playing the aforementioned villians seen in the trailers are all excellent with one particular performance by a veteran actor of this Superhero franchise being the ultimate standout (you’ll know what I mean!). I wish I could say more about the film’s performances overall but some things are better left to be seen for yourselves!

If I had any criticisms to point out, it would be that sometimes the film’s intended humor was hit or miss. Other than that, perhaps the pacing of the film’s first act can seem slow at times as there is a lot of necessary exposition to set up the story. However, once the premise is set and we arrive at the film’s second act, the film’s intensity continues to increase which leads us to both a shocking & amazing action-packed third act finale!

Overall, the third entry of this trilogy is a fun, fulfilling and extremely rewarding Spiderman film that is sure to please audiences and die hard fans of this beloved character. The action set pieces are all well executed and the visual presentation of Spiderman heroics throughout are stunning to look at. With this entry, Director Jon Watts has delivered a CLASSIC Superhero film that also acts as the ultimate love letter and tribute to all of the previous Spiderman films that came before it. While there are many nostalgic moments to be found here with callbacks to the films of old, make no mistake about it, this film will also have lasting effects on the MCU and Sony’s “Spiderverse” going forward.

“Spiderman: No Way Home” honestly left me in awe and can certainly be viewed as the “Endgame” of this Spiderman Trilogy in terms of the story, scale, characters and sheer amount of spectacle and well earned fan service moments in its third act finale. Featuring a brilliant score by Michael Giacchino, heartwarming moments that will make you laugh & cry, breathtaking action, and high stakes throughout, this film is one entertaining thrill ride that comes HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Also, be sure to stick around as the movie contains two post credit scenes which gives fans a glimpse and preview of things to come in the near future – Enjoy!

Editor’s note:

We can confirm this Henny swigging, Tim-wearing New York Spider-Man is not in the movie.

Quality Control Gets Into Reality TV With New Deal

If you thought reality television has run its course… you ain’t seen nothing yet.

Quality Control, the label responsible for bringing to the world Lil Yachty, Migos, and the City Girls, has just struck a deal with producers of “Catfish” and “Celebrity Game Face” to make unscripted television shows and aims to breathe new life into the industry with innovative programming.

According to Deadline, the label has connected with Critical Content productions to unscripted series for its roster.

Musical acts, like those previously mentioned (add in Lil Baby) and athletes like New Orleans Saints’ Alvin Kamara and Detroit Lions’ D’Andre Swift, will have shows crafted around their personalities and fanbase.

Before the official partnership was established the two companies worked together on a YouTube original series called “Home Courts” that featured Quavo.

On this show, the “Bad and Boujee” rapper visited community basketball courts across the nation to link athletes, artists, and activists to promote positive causes.

The first project after the official partnership will be a show called “Equal Justice.”

This show will have Hip-Hop’s most celebrated stars use their resources and clout to get quality lawyers for defendants who need them —hoping to better secure more fair trials for those who have struggled to find top-notch representation.

What kind of shows would you like to see from Coach K and CEO Pee?

Doja Cat Ditches Dr. Luke After String Of Hits

Doja Cat has indicated she will no longer work with music producer Dr. Luke.

The rapper/singer worked alongside the 48-year-old, real name Lukasz Gottwald, on her hit songs “Say So,” “Best Friend,” and “Kiss Me More.”

But in an interview for the January 2022 issue of Rolling Stone, Doja Cat – also known as Amala Dlamini – discussed her music with Dr. Luke and revealed that she no longer has the “need” to work with him.

“It’s whatever. I don’t think I need to work with him again. I don’t think I need to work with him in the future. I know that,” she told the outlet. “I think it was definitely nice of me to work with him.”

In October 2014, Kesha launched a series of lawsuits against Dr. Luke in which she alleged he sexually assaulted and abused her. He has denied all of the allegations.

Elsewhere in the conversation, Doja Cat noted that she hadn’t collaborated with Dr. Luke “in a very long time” and insinuated he played a minor role in the song production process.

“I haven’t worked with him in a very long time,” the 26-year-old continued. “A lot of those songs were… There’s s**t that he’s credited for, where I’m like, ‘Hmm, I don’t know, I don’t know if you did anything on that.'”

Dr. Luke has not yet responded to Doja Cat’s comments.

Meet Romana Snijder: The Musician Making a Mark in Heavy Metal

Heavy metal music made its way into the music scene in the 1960s, and since then, many American musicians have modified this genre into more lucid forms. Although pop and hip hop continues to rock the mainstream industry, some old-school music fans still prefer metal. Romana Snijder is a modern musician who is reviving this genre with subtle undertones of R&B and EDM. She shot to fame after blowing up the internet with her debut single “Leaving Behind” in 2018. Since then, the young artist has been storming the music scene in Los Angeles.

Romana left home at 16 to pursue her dream of becoming a model in New York. After failing miserably to make a mark in the modeling industry, she was left with no option but to live on the streets for six months. Things started getting better after she got a job at a local pub, where she discovered her passion for music. Romana was quick to make important connections that helped her navigate the industry. She got her first lessons in music from some musicians and DJs who frequented the pub. Gradually, Romana became unstoppable in her craft.

After garnering huge positive attention from her debut single, Romana rolled out 4 back-to-back hit singles and an album in 2019. Her debut album 12 AM has 6 mesmerizing tracks that reflect her electrifying energy and mastery over melodies. The songs “I Want More” and “Dance With Me” from her album became a roaring success on digital media platforms, earning over 2 million views in just a week. Romana showcased her best in metal music with her high-energy, hard-hitting notes. She then deftly transcends to a harmonious tune with a subtle touch of R&B. Her songs became trending tracks on various digital music platforms. They also became popular party numbers at pubs, bars, and clubs.

After a series of accomplishments with several projects, Romana was flooded with offers to perform live. Just when she decided to embark on a new venture with live shows and concerts, her career suffered a huge setback. With the onset of the pandemic, live shows and events were postponed, leaving many musicians jobless almost overnight. Romana was one of them. Her loneliness and the idle situation took a toll on her mental health to the extent that Romana started believing her career had ended. She soon recollected her confidence and thought of connecting with her fans through social media.

Romana started live-streaming her music on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram. She also uploaded several music videos on YouTube, gaining back her stardom after a 4-month hiatus. In April 2021, Romana rolled out another single in collaboration with DJ TY, the artist who assisted Romana during her days struggling while working at the pub. The song “Give It Back” topped several music charts in America and even ranked on the Billboard charts.

Currently, Romana is working on numerous upcoming projects. Some are in collaboration with other renowned artists while others are independent tracks. she wants to be a musician with a purpose by conveying a message to her listeners through music. Romana wants to inspire people to follow their goals by sharing excerpts from her life through her songs. This message has always resonated with her audience, so she plans to continue until her last breath.

Travis Scott’s Astroworld Festival: Victims’ Cause Of Death Revealed

A cause of death has been determined for the 10 victims who died in the tragedy at Travis Scott’s Astroworld Festival.

The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences revealed all 10 people died from compression asphyxia. Medical examiners released their findings in a report on Thursday.

According to the National Library of Medicine, compression asphyxia is caused when external pressure on the body prevents respiration. The deceased victims were among the hundreds injured during a deadly crowd surge at Travis Scott’s Astroworld Festival.

An additional contributory cause of death was listed for one of the victims, Mirza Danish Baig. The 27-year-old man also suffered from the combined effects of cocaine, methamphetamine and ethanol.

Well over 300 lawsuits have been filed against Travis Scott and the festival’s organizer Live Nation. Survivors and the families of the victims are seeking billions of dollars in damages.

In an interview with Charlamagne Tha God, Travis Scott said he didn’t know anyone died or suffered severe injuries until after the concert. He also addressed his level of responsibility for the tragedy.

“I have a responsibility to figure out what happened here,” he said. “I have a responsibility to figure out the solution. And hopefully, this takes a first step for us as artists — having that more insight of what’s going on.”

Anil Dobani: Music Is Meant To Be Enjoyed In Every Form Available

Music is the soul of the universe, which Plato described as a “moral law.” Every person has their unique definition of music inspired by their experiences with it. According to Anil Dobani, music gives wings to life. Your imagination is the only boulder in your way when it comes to music.

In his exploration of music as an art form and part of everyday life, Anil Dobani has found that music gives flight to the human imagination. You can build and rebuild scenarios fuelled by the melody, lyrics, and instruments in a song. “Music fuels imagination about life and everything around us,” he says.

Anil Dobani has explored the world through music. In his view, music is meant to be enjoyed in every form available. His notion that music gives wings to life means that you can travel through music, love, grow and experience parts of life you’d never come close to otherwise. Life as we know it is pretty challenging, and music provides a warm escape to where everything is perfect, even if for the duration of a song.

Through his love for the art form, Anil Dobani inspires young people to explore their musical tastes. He teaches them to live and spread their wings through music. “Music is also a sure way to experience healing, music therapy being proven to relieve stress and uplift mood,” says Anil.

Moreover, it is possible to paint a clearer picture of a situation with music. So many aspects of life take off with music, and Anil is especially excited about the impacts of music on our brains. “Music improves our memory and learning and helps us express our emotions better,” he says. According to Anil, when feelings remain bottled, they can explode in the wrong way; music can help you express yourself creatively and less destructively.

A lot of research has been conducted over the years on classical music and its benefits. And even as the benefits continue to be highlighted, Anil Dobani recommends that everyone work towards discovering their own musical taste. “Find the genre that gives wings to your life, and life will never be the same,” he concludes.

How Music Acts As An Invisible Line That Connects Hearts, As Per Sasha Goat

Music is the one thing you can turn to in any situation and find just the right comfort from it. Whether you’re celebrating your joys or drowning your sorrows, music is a non-judgmental source of deeper understanding. Sasha Goat, creator of popular singles such as “Kangaroo” and “Keep It Hot,” goes as far as describing music as an invisible line that connects hearts and uplifts souls.

Music is a shared part of human existence that you will find in all cultures. Sasha Goat, whose most recent track is the fan-favorite “Just Jessie,” states that listening to music impacts everyone. It can help you make sense of complex feelings and reframe your perspective on various aspects of life. For most people, their choice of music is what they can relate to, based on what they are going through in
life.

Do you have songs that you listen to when you are happy? Sad? In love? Heartbroken? In all these instances, music helps uplift your soul and brighten your mood. Music therapy has been used for a long time to help people. This is because it holds the power to interpret your unexplainable thoughts and help you confront
emotions that you tend to hide from.

Sasha Goat believes that a lot of what humans go through would be compounded into catastrophic measures without music. At the same time, we would have no ability to relate to others or connect to people from different parts of the world. Researchers have found that music helps reduce pain and anxiety. Imagine if there
was no music!

The reason why music can connect hearts and uplift souls is its universality. Music is not bound by time or space. It doesn’t conform to societal pressures and social norms. Music is timeless and can be felt and understood by all, regardless of the differences in language and heritage.

Every day, music is healing souls and connecting hearts. That is why couples have a favorite song and you can become instant friends with someone just from their music taste. Sasha Goat reminds us of what Plato said about music: it gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything.

Leonard “Hub” Hubbard, Longtime Bassist For The Roots, Dies Of Cancer

Leonard “Hub” Hubbard, a founding member of The Roots, passed away on Thursday.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia’s 6 ABC, The Roots’ longtime bassist died from multiple myeloma, which is a form of blood cancer. He was 62.

Leonard “Hub” Hubbard had been battling multiple myeloma since 2007. His step-daughter India Owens said he was in remission until last month.

Hubbard’s wife Stephanie brought her husband to the hospital after his health took a turn for the worse on Wednesday night. She was unable to stay with him in the hospital due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I was called to the hospital,” she told Philadelphia’s ABC affiliate. “They told me what had happened that he had passed. I went to the hospital and was able to sit with him.”

Hubbard joined The Roots in 1992 when they were still known as Square Roots. He played on all of their albums spanning from their debut, 1993’s Organix, to their first LP for Def Jam, 2006’s Game Theory.

The veteran bassist left the group after he was diagnosed with cancer in 2007. He played with The Roots on a handful of occasions following his departure.

In 2016, Hubbard sued Questlove, Black Thought and The Roots’ manager Shawn Gee for allegedly not paying him what he was owed as a co-owner of the band. His wife told Philadelphia’s 6 ABC the suit still hasn’t been settled.

Travis Scott Working With Mayors Around The Country To Prevent Another Astroworld Tragedy

Travis Scott is looking to turn lemons into lemonade.

After the recent Astroworld tragedy, a crowd-surging disaster that claimed the lives of ten people and injured hundreds more, he is working to improve the safety at concerts in America.

According to TMZ the “Sicko Mode” artist has been linked with various leaders to make real strides to protect his fans and other concertgoers.

Over the last few weeks, the chart-topper has connected with The United States Conference of Mayors (USCM) to talk about policy to regulate the safety guidelines of concert promoters, producers, and venues to throw some of the biggest shows in America.

The USCM represents over 1,400 cities in the country.

He aims to establish an advocacy and policy-making body that includes people from the government and other public safety, emergency response, health care event management, music, and technology industries to produce a safety report.

The outlet has seen the outline for the meetings and that Hillary Schieve, the Mayor of Reno, Nevada, is leading the effort. Her co-lead will be the Chair of the Conference’s Tourism, Art, Parks, Entertainment and Sports Committee.

As reported by AllHipHop.com, Travis Scott is juggling hundreds of lawsuits that at present are totaling over $1 billion. To top that off, several of his biggest endorsement and business deals are falling all the way back.

Anheuser-Busch has deaded the hard seltzer water deal with Cacti that they started with him.. Coachella has knocked him off as a headliner for its festival, and his artist Malu Trevejo just shared that she wants off his label and that if he does not cut ties soon, she will expose him and his team.

“That whole team is weird in so many ways,” the Cuban native said. “I just want to get out of it as I still haven’t been able to.”

Megan Thee Stallion Signs Big-Time Deal With Netflix

Megan Thee Stallion’s “Hot Girl Summer” has lasted for a few years and does not seem to be slowing down.

The chart-topping rapper from Houston has just closed a mega (or should we say “Megan”) size deal with Netflix that will ensure that her year ends with a bang.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the “WAP” artist has entered into a first-look deal with the streaming service and will be working with the company’s comedy division.

Tracey Pakosta, the head of comedy at Netflix says, “Megan is a multi-talented creative force who has consistently made her mark on culture. She’s always growing and evolving as an artist, and we’re thrilled that she’s making a home at Netflix for this next chapter in her journey.”

It seems like the college-educated (shout-out TSU) spitter, discovered by A Tribe Called Quest frontman Q-Tip, says, “I’ve always had a passion for telling creative and entertaining stories, so I’m thrilled about this partnership with Netflix.”

She continued, “Venturing into production is the next step in my journey as an entrepreneur, and I can’t wait to bring all my ideas to life and for my Hotties to watch.”

Netflix could not wait to post (a few times) this news up on their social media.

The brand tweeted, and Tina Snow reposted, “Real hot girl s### SO excited to announce we’re partnering with Grammy Award-winning musician, philanthropist, college graduate, and entrepreneur Meg @TheeStallion! Meg will be exclusively producing new series and other projects for Netflix.”

“Grammy Award-winning musician, philanthropist, college graduate, and entrepreneur Megan Thee Stallion has formed an exclusive first-look deal to create and executive produce new series and other projects for Netflix”

This is not the star’s first foray into tv and film. In 2020, she starred as Onyx on the show “Good Girls,” and her YouTube series Hottieween made people stand up and recognize her gifts outside of rapping.

300 Entertainment Acquired By Warner Music Group

Megan Thee Stallion and Young Thug’s label 300 Entertainment has been sold to Warner Music Group.

Warner Music Group announced its acquisition of 300 Entertainment on Thursday. The financial details of the deal weren’t disclosed.

“The 300 team has built an extraordinary brand, attracted a dynamic community of artists and led the way for a new generation of labels,” Warner’s CEO of recorded music Max Lousada said in a statement. “We’ll bring their artists and team a whole universe of opportunities to ignite passionate fanbases and develop long-term careers. We’re very happy to welcome 300 fully into the Warner community of labels and Kevin [Liles] to his new role on our senior management team.”

As part of the deal, 300 Entertainment CEO Kevin Liles has been appointed the CEO and Chairman of Warner Music’s newly acquired label and Elektra Music Group. Liles co-founded 300 with Lyor Cohen, Roger Gold and Todd Moscowitz in 2012.

“At 300, we’re all about freedom – the freedom to create, the freedom to be intrapreneurs and entrepreneurs, the freedom to make music that changes the world,” Liles said. “Independence is in our DNA and the team at Warner is like family, which makes this a natural evolution for us to do bigger family business.”

Liles added, “It’s the perfect home for 300 artists and our team, as we invest in our independent vision and grow our global impact. Max, Julie, Gregg and Mike – these are leaders we know and trust. They understand the value we place on independence, individuality, and creativity. We’re going to accomplish amazing things together and take our artists and labels to a whole new global level.”

Prior to the sale, 300 Entertainment had a distribution deal with Warner Music’s subsidiary Atlantic Records. Liles also worked for Warner in the past, serving as the company’s executive vice president.

Biz Markie’s Ex-Business Partner / Manager Was a DEA Plant!

The Hip-Hop police are real. Just look at the case of Biz Markie. His former business partner / manager — Lamont Wanzer — would work as a whole informant for the Drug Enforcement Agency, this according to the Baltimore Sun.

Listen, Lamont, better known as Monte has a questionable character. As opposed, to being implicitly responsible for his actions, he decided to cut a deal and work with the Law. Check the paperwork.

Thus, a match made in Hell arose. No, the po-po didn’t actually specifically mention his full legal name. Rather, the transcription shows that both “Monte,” and “BizMont” were the aliases used.

According to a lengthy document, which contains over 80 pages, Wanzer could not wait to start working with Johnny Law. A warrant shows it all. A connection was made. Richard Byrd, a shrewd pharmaceutical salesman, and attorney Kenneth Ravenell, were shown to share ties with Wanzer.

For several years, Wanzer and Byrd successfully ran a marketing firm. This served as the front to launder the illicit tax-free earnings of Mr. Byrd. It must be noted that Biz Markie never came under any undue scrutiny.

Furthermore, Biz was never implicated in any illegal activity. Nor, did he have any ties with that federal agency. Back in 2014 Lamont passed away.

Regardless of these unfortunate findings, Biz Markie is an unblemished Hip-Hop icon! Rest in power.

EXCLUSIVE: Pioneer Rapper Kurtis Blow Talks ‘Christmas Rappin’ And His Role In The New Hip Hop Nutcracker Tour

Hip-Hop pioneer Kurtis Blow will be headlining an upcoming holiday remix of a classic opera. The legend will star in the 2021 version of The Hip Hop Nutcracker, a traveling tour that will produce almost 40 shows between now and the first week in January.

The Hip Hop Nutcracker, directed and choreographed by Jennifer Weber, is a contemporary spin on the original Tchaikovsky piece, a two-act ballet, created over 125 years ago.

Blow sits down with AllHipHop.com’s CEO Chuck Creekmur to talk about his role in the production and his historic connection to the Yuletide holiday.

In his interview, Blow shares that his excitement going out on stage night after night with the young break dancers, musicians, and DJ on the tour. One of the musicians that he plugged in is a violinist, Jarvis L. Benson who started with the tour when it opened in November.

“We have a DJ cutting up beats all night long. We have our own Hip-Hop musician, he is a violinist coming out and collab-ing with the DJ,” he beamed. “And to see and hear that is incredible. That fusion of classical music and Hip-Hop is incredible.”

“And I am the emcee and host of the show,” he proudly proclaims.

The 62-year-old has other accolades he can be proud of. In 1979, at the age of 20, he was the first rapper to be signed by a major label. His song, “The Breaks” went gold in the 1980s and is one of the biggest hits of its time and joints like “AJ” and “Basketball” are classics to any Hip-Hop enthusiast worth their grain in salt.

In 1997, when Nas covered his song “If I Ruled the World” and debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts a whole new generation of music lovers got to know the impact of the man, who is also one of the founders of the Universal Hip Hop Museum, in a brand new way.

But it is his song, “Christmas Rappin” that is probably the most recognizable and appreciated during the holidays.

Creekmur asked the visionary emcee, “What made you do that song at that time? Hip-Hop was so young.”

He replied, “The Christmas rap song was an idea from my producer. His name was Robert Ford, Jr. Rest in Peace.”

“He came to me in our first meeting and said, it would be a great idea if we did a song that would plan annually, every year during the Christmas Holiday. Why not do a Christmas rap,” Kurtis Blow shared.

Kurtis said that he immediately thought it was a great idea and the rest is history.

The website shares that “Just like the original, in The Hip Hop Nutcracker, Maria-Clara and the Nutcracker prince go on a dream adventure battling a gang of mice, visiting the land of sweets and learning the lessons of the holiday season. Hoffmann’s beloved story from traditional 19th Century Germany to the vibrant, diverse sights and sounds of contemporary New York City.”

The “Django Unchained” star, who has two daughters – Corinne, 27, and Annalise, 12, later realized that the trips “didn’t work” while participating in a therapy session.

“In a very uncomfortable session with a therapist, I found out my daughter was like, ‘I don’t need Disneyland, dad, I need you,” he shared. “So time, time is priceless.”
