G Herbo views himself as more than just a drill rapper. The Chicago-bred artist spoke about his love of Hip-Hop and why he transcends the drill subgenre during an appearance on Math Hoffa’s My Expert Opinion podcast.
“I represent Hip-Hop,” G Herbo said. “I’m a student of Hip-Hop. So, you started small when you talk about drill. New York is Hip-Hop. New York is what I fell in love with … New York is the culture of Hip-Hop. The foundation of Hip-Hop, of rap music. That s### bigger than G Herbo. Drill is cool. That’s alright. Bet, G Herbo’s part of drill. I’m a part of history too though. I’m a part of Hip-Hop.”
G Herbo noted how drill took over the current New York rap scene, but he owed his career to the New York artists who inspired him. He mentioned Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Jay-Z and more as sources of inspiration.
“I got my whole style and my swag from New York,” he said. “It wouldn’t even be a G Herbo if I ain’t look up to n##### from New York. So, when we talk about this drill s###, I ain’t know I was gonna be a part of drill or this s### was gonna be a wave. I was looking up to n##### from New York. And now n##### from New York looking up to me.”
Earlier this month, G Herbo accepted a plea deal in a fraud case. He awaits sentencing with a plea hearing tentatively scheduled for Thursday (July 27).
A$AP Rocky denied dissing stylist Ian Connor after being questioned about it in direct messages on Instagram.
Various social media accounts and websites claimed A$AP Rocky dissed A$AP Bari and Connor at the Rolling Loud Festival in Miami. A clip of the rapper’s performance clearly showed him taking a shot at A$AP Bari, but the lyric about Connor was muddled.
Connor, who’s been accused of sexual assault by multiple women, did not like his name resurfacing in public discourse. He asked ASAP Rocky to clear the air via Instagram.
“F### this about?” Connor wrote in a message to his longtime associate.
A$AP Rocky responded, “Bout nuttin. u prolly won’t believe me lol, word to tho, can’t blame if u don’t.”
The rapper elaborated after getting pressed for clarification.
“They runnin wit dat,” he wrote. “I jabbed @ bruh and 4got the lyrics mid sentence, listen closely, ‘he da s###.’”
A$AP Rocky insisted Connor was “good in [his] book.” But Connor, who shared their private messages on Instagram Stories, wanted public support.
“Tell them folks that Flacko,” he wrote. “I look Brazy even if it’s mistaken. I been out here doin’ good staying sucka free to minimal b####### and now I’m all over the place for taking shots at Bari. Instant Karma maybe but I can’t digg that.”
Connor called for artists to stop mentioning his name in songs after the apparent miscommunication.
“Don’t put my name in no songs from this point forward,” he wrote. “Y’all n####s is not Lil Durk and I’m not India.”

Carlee Russell, the 25-year-old Alabama woman who sparked a nationwide frenzy over her alleged abduction, has admitted to fabricating the entire incident. The revelation has sent shockwaves across the internet, with social media platforms exploding with reactions.
Russell’s attorney, Emery Anthony, released a statement on her behalf, stating, “There was no kidnapping on Thursday, July 13, 2023. My client did not see a baby on the side of the road. My client did not leave the Hoover area when she was identified as a missing person. My client did not have any help in this incident, but this was a single act done by herself.”
The statement further clarified that Russell was not with anyone or at any hotel during the time she was reported missing.
Carlee Russell has since apologized to the community, the volunteers who searched for her, the Hoover Police Department, and her family and friends. The statement ended with a plea for prayers and forgiveness.
Russell’s initial disappearance on July 13, 2023, triggered a massive search operation after she reported seeing a toddler walking along the side of the interstate and intended to pull over to help.
Her sudden reappearance three days later was as unexpected as her disappearance, and she was immediately taken to the hospital for evaluation.
The incident quickly gained traction on social media, with users widely sharing her story and expressing concern for her safety.
The public’s engagement with the case was so significant that nearly $60,000 was offered to Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama as a reward for information leading to Russell’s safe return.
The spa’s owner, Stuart Rome, expressed his employees’ feelings of betrayal, stating, “It was really devastating for them, thinking a coworker was abducted.”
Rome also highlighted the impact on the company’s social media presence, with people flooding it with negative comments about Russell and her employment. He expressed concern that the incident might erode people’s willingness to help in future abduction cases.
The Hoover Police Department is currently discussing with the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office in Bessemer about possible criminal charges related to the case.
#CarleeRussell set back black people by her antics and I am not here for it
Does she want black ppl and women especially to not be believed when they end up missing and or in harm?
The #CarleeRussell cases teaches us many things, most importantly, the police will be reviewing your search history when you are suspected of committing a crime or a victim of a crime. Might I suggest you not search how to fake a kidnapping when planning your fake kidnapping?
No one is saying trump ain’t king of liars and shoulda been behind bars a long time ago. But, half of all missing person cases are Black women and girls. #CarleeRussell’s hoax took time & money away from finding real missing ppl. That’s a bad lie.
Family and friends mourned the death of Gillie Da King’s son YNG Cheese at a funeral in Philly on Monday (July 24). The service was held at the Met Philadelphia.
YNG Cheese, whose real name was Devin Spady, was shot and killed in Philadelphia on Thursday (July 20). He was 25.
Two other men were wounded in the shooting that claimed the life of Gillie’s son. Both victims survived.

Hip-Hop legend KRS-One has extended an invitation to all Hip-Hop enthusiasts across the globe. The iconic rapper and performer will host a momentous livestream “jam” to celebrate the 50th birthday of the Hip-Hop movement, right from where it all began—the legendary Community Center at 1520 Sedgwick Avenue in the Bronx.
Considered hallowed ground, 1520 Sedgwick holds the distinction of being the locale where DJ Kool Herc hosted a part for his sister, Cindy Campbell. It wasn’t long until others like GrandWizzard Theodore and Grandmaster Caz also emerged as groundbreaking pioneers, contributing to the essence of Hip-Hop.
KRS-One’s party will take place Friday (August 11) at 7 p.m. ET with an eclectic mix of artists from diverse backgrounds, all of whom have played a pivotal role in propelling the culture forward over the last five decades. These guests include dancers, painters, DJs, poets and rappers to celebrate the breadth of Hip-Hop’s brilliance.
KRS-One said, “Hip-Hop began right here in the community room at 1520 Sedgwick. It’s more than just music; it’s a shared bond and a positive message about life, creativity, and communal spirituality that’s woven into the very fabric of this space. Witnessing the constant influx of new artists and their spirit over the past 50 years is a powerful testament to the unstoppable force of Hip-Hop.”
New York City Mayor Eric Adams remarked, “August 11, 1973, was a night that changed history forever. From that humble back-to-school ‘jam,’ Hip Hop’s reach has expanded across the globe, uniting people from all walks of life. Now, with this grand celebration, we pay tribute to the movement that has enriched our lives beyond measure.”
Rapper and ambassador Kurtis Blow said the Hip-Hop community is a testament to the resilience of expression and strength of unity.
“Beyond beats and rhymes, Hip-Hop is the soul of a generation,” he said. “It’s a living legacy that continues to inspire us to stay connected to our roots and amplify our voices.”
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and others helped to defend 1520 Sedgwick Avenue against real estate threats and offered affordable housing to nurture the community’s culture.
Yung Miami responded to criticism of her 10-year-old son throwing money at dancers at the 2023 Rolling Loud Festival in Miami.
One Twitter user urged the City Girls member to address the situation on Monday (July 24). She dismissed the backlash over an Instagram clip posted by JT, who filmed the 10-year-old boy making it rain on scantily clad dancers.
Yung Miami said her son was “having a ball” at the festival. She did not think it was inappropriate for her child to be on stage with JT.
“That’s why I don’t post my kids y’all b###### can talk a sore in yall mouth about me but I’ll never give y’all the chance to have an opinion about my kids!” the City Girls rapper wrote. “Idgaf.”
That's why I don't post my kids y'all b###### can talk a sore in yall mouth about me but I'll never give y'all the chance to have an opinion about my kids! Idgaf
Yung Miami corrected another Twitter user who believed her son was 6 years old. She also thanked JT, who referred to herself as the cool aunt, for bringing the boy to the festival.
“THANK YOU SO MUCH THAT S### LITERALLY BRING TEARS TO MY EYES & REMIND ME EVERYTIME THAT THIS S### IS BIGGER THAN US!!!” Yung Miami wrote. “JAI SAID THAT WAS THE BEST DAY OF HIS LIFE THANK YOU JATAVIA! & he loveeeeeeeeee Uzi.”
According to reports, Quavo was among a large group of people aboard a luxury vessel when armed assailants stormed near the swanky nightlife attraction, The Wharf. It all apparently went down around 9 p.m. local time while the ship was docked. The strapped-up robbers allegedly put a blicky up to the owner of the yacht. The jack boys are also accused of snatching a couple of racks off of the captain—who they threatened to kill and throw overboard.
Cell phone video shows police pulled up on their Miami Vice tip too and ambushed the whole scene. Word on the ‘net is the boys were really on high alert and had everybody, including Quavo himself, cuffed up. Which seems super crazy to me because like, have you ever looked at Quavo’s wrists? Bro literally stacks iced-out bracelets and watches like their rap infinity stones and gives him the power of the Migos’ flow.
Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time Quavo has faced a strongarm robbery. The streets are saying Quavo had his chain snatched back in 2017 after he and the other Migos got into a brawl backstage at a Washington D.C. show.
While Miami Beach and Miami Police Department had multiple people detained at the scene, a suspect hasn’t been confirmed.
As for the prior D.C. dust-up mentioned above, them old O’ Block, Glory Boys Chief Keef and the late Fredo Santana were responsible for the hit. However, folks n’ nem realized they were tweakin’ and squashed it with the infamous “Miglo” selfie.
Adidas is one step closer to cutting its ties to rapper-turned-fashion designer Kanye West. In 2022, the German athletic brand ended its working relationship with the Def Jam artist after he exhibited questionable behavior and made outlandish comments about Jewish people and George Floyd, a Black man killed by Minneapolis police.
The problem was that Adidas had a huge amount of inventory left after the split, so the company decided to sell them, vowing to give a portion to charity and also give Ye a royalty check since the products were birthed from his mind.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CiwX6rWOvAN/?hl=en
According to the Financial Times, the first batch went on sale in June and sold four million pairs of sneakers within 48 hours. Adidas offered 15 Yeezy models ranging from $70 to $260 for customers to cop—and most of them went fast. In total, the company raked in $565 million for the online sale.
A portion of the profits, which might be as much as $9 million went to the Anti-Defamation League and the Philonise & Keeta Floyd Institute for Social Change, founded by George Floyd’s brother.
While Ye, whose current net worth is reportedly $500 million, did get a royalty check, the amount remains undisclosed.
Adidas CEO Bjørn Gulden said earlier in the year that the company will “probably not make a profit” on the sale of the Yeezy sneakers and took a huge loss this year because of Kanye’s comments and erratic behavior.
Lil Uzi Vert’s next album, Barter 16, will reportedly be executive produced by London On Da Track. According to Brown Girl Grinding’s Loren Lorosa, sources close to the situation confirmed the news earlier this month. Lorosa shared an Instagram post over the weekend that read, “EXCLUSIVE: sources have confirmed with me that London on Da Track will exec produce lil uzi’s highly anticipated album Barter 16.”
No further details were provided aside from a photo of what looks like cover art doodles on an iPad and someone’s arm hooked up to an IV.
Lil Uzi Vert fans are evidently clamoring for new music from the Philly-bred rapper, even in the wake of the recent Pink Tape release. The project served as Uzi’s first offering since 2020’s Eternal Atake and became rap’s first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 this year.
As reported by HITS Daily Double, the Pink Tape project was projected to move more than 165,000 total album-equivalent units in its opening week, with roughly 3,800 of those being pure album sales. The album surpassed Morgan Wallen’s chart behemoth, One Day At A Time, which has been in the top spot for at least 15 non-consecutive weeks.
The chart-topping effort came with a promise from Lil Uzi Vert. On July 4, Uzi shared a photo of the Pink Tape album cover to their Instagram Stories and wrote, “Get this 2 number one and I will drop the album y’all really looking for.” Hours later, Uzi updated his Instagram bio to read, “Luv is Rage 3.”
Luv is Rage 3 would mark the third installment in Lil Uzi Vert’s Luv Is Rage series (or fourth if counting the 2017 Luv Is Rage 1.5 EP). The first one, which was touted as a mixtape, arrived in 2015 and was followed by Luv Is Rage 2 two years later. The latter debuted at No. 1, with more than 135,000 total album equivalent units sold. It produced Lil Uzi Vert’s only diamond-certified single, “XO TOUR Llif3.”
Bam Margera, one of the stars from the hit MTV show Jackass, has dropped a diss song against his former co-stars. Titled “Feel Like Bam,” the track features rappers Cult Shotta and Tanboy Miquel.
“I had to take a lesson from the darkness,” he raps in the song, adding, “Knoxville, he’s going to be there, so find out if he has the stuff to find out when I’m going to f##k you up.”
In addition to Johnny Knoxville, the song also targets Wee Man, Steve O and Jackass director Jeff Tremaine, who was key in getting Bam removed from the latest film in the franchise.
According to TMZ, Bam and Tremaine have been warring for a while and the song seems to lift some of his issues with the director. One of the issues that the prankster has with Tremaine is his alleged unfair movie contracts for the people who work on his films.
The embattled professional skateboarder was apprehended at Trejo’s Tacos, the restaurant owned by Danny Trejo. Once they contacted Margera, they determined his erratic speech and behavior combined with recent suicidal threats he’s made was enough to call in a psychiatric evaluation team. He was then taken to a mental health facility, where he was legally held for roughly 72 hours.
Days after 6ix9ine paid Kodak Black $1 million to rap on a song with him, it seems the Brooklyn native will be dishing out more money. According to paperwork obtained byRadarOnline, the “Gooba” rapper was supposed to go to court to face charges related to an unpaid American Express credit card bill.
But because he didn’t show up, American Express—the plaintiff in the case—has asked the court for a default judgment for the amount owed.
The artist stopped paying charges on the card in November 2022. The complaint states he owes an unpaid balance of $118,387 plus attorney fees.
The credit card company said it hired a process server who was able to track the artist down in Florida on March 23.
“I observed [Tekashi] driving his Blue Lamborghini with colorful paint splatters,” the server wrote. “He passed by me, and out of his development. I followed and caught up with [Tekashi] at Delicias Cuban Bakery.”
As 6ix9ine chatted with his friends, the server made his way over to him. He introduced himself to the rapper who had “multi-colored hair, face tattoos and was wearing a dark-colored hoodie.” That’s when he hit him with the legal documents.
This isn’t the only or biggest lawsuit the rapper is facing.
A few months before he stopped paying on his AmEx card, he was sued by a streaming company called Stremusic for $2 million. The company allegedly paid 6ix9ine $150,000 to play the shows and promote the gigs on his Instagram, but 6ix9ine ghosted them at the top of the month.
The company says in the legal documents that when they finally linked with the artist, both parties were able to renegotiate the terms of performance contracts. The agreement was to do the two performances in January 2022. The rapper ghosted them again, ignoring a total of seven letters sent by their attorneys.
Tiffany Haddish is calling out her ex-boyfriend Common, who allegedly broke up with her over the phone. According to a new interview with The Washington Post, the comedic actress admitted she was caught off guard by the split—even though Common initially described it as a “mutual” decision.
“It wasn’t mutual,” she said. “It was more him saying, ‘I think this relationship has run its course. And I was like, ‘OK. Like, you gonna be a 50-year-old single man. OK?’”
The couple dated for roughly a year in 2021, and they both seemed to enjoy their time together. But toward the end of the relationship, Haddish claimed he stopped inviting her to events—including his own birthday party—and eventually pulled away completely.
Haddish apparently wasn’t “ready.” Last March, she dedicated an Instagram post to Common for his 50th birthday, months after their breakup. She wrote: “Happy Birthday to the King @common! One of the most handsome, dynamic and wonderful men I have ever Known. May the most HIGH continue to bless and shine thru you. I Am wishing you Joy, Peace, Light, Love and fun on your born day! I hope you are Happy for 50 more years. Love!”
But it looks like Common was ready to move on—with Jennifer Hudson. In May, “The Light” MC and Hudson were photographed canoodling in her suburban Chicago neighborhood, walking arm-in-arm for more than 90 minutes. They were first spotted together in February.
Common has dated Erykah Badu, Taraji P. Henson, Angela Rye and Serena Williams over the years, which worried Hudson’s fans. On March 13, Hudson shared a photo of herself with Common, asking her fans to wish him a happy birthday, but she was met with comments such as “you’re too good for him” and he’s “emotionally unavailable.”
As for Haddish, Common’s team claimed they broke up due to scheduling conflicts. Haddish countered, “I was disappointed. I was very disappointed. I was like, ‘Oh, OK. ‘Cause that’s not what you told me, but OK.’ He might be the type of person that never really settles with somebody. Maybe he’s like, you know, like a bee going from flower to flower to flower. I don’t know. I wish him nothing but joy and happiness, you know. He will always be cool.”
Doja Cat has stirred controversy by publicly criticizing her fans who call themselves “Kittenz.”
In the world of music fandoms, Beyoncé’s fans proudly identify as “The Beyhive,” Rihanna’s followers are known as “The Navy,” Nicki Minaj’s devotees call themselves “The Barbs,” and Cardi B’s supporters have adopted the moniker “The Bardi Gang.”
However, Doja Cat expressed her extreme disapproval of the term “Kittenz” in a candid statement over the weekend.
“My fans don’t name themselves s###. If you call yourself a ‘kitten’ or f###### ‘kittenz,’ that means you need to get off your phone and get a job and help your parents with the house,” Doja Cat said.
The comment has sparked a wave of reactions from fans and critics alike, with many expressing their disappointment and shock at the artist’s seemingly dismissive attitude toward her fanbase.
doja cat is so unnecessarily mean spirited :/ how is she not embarrassed of herself
Doja Cat has also been scrutinized for her rumored relationship with comedian J. Cyrus, who was accused of sexual assault and being a racist.
The pair were first spotted together in New York City in November 2022 and have since been seen together on multiple occasions, including a recent trip on a yacht in Mexico.
Despite the public sightings, Doja Cat has remained private about her personal life, and neither she nor Cyrus have confirmed their relationship status.
The controversy comes just before Doja Cat embarks on her first North American Arena tour, “The Scarlet Tour,” set to kick off on October 31 in San Francisco.
The 24-date tour will see the Grammy winner hit up areas such as Las Vegas, Denver, Austin, Houston, Atlanta, and Tampa before closing it out on December 13 in Chicago.
She will also be joined by Ice Spice and Doechii across select dates.
i don’t think doja cat hates her fans, she just sees stan culture as weird and wants better for y’all than obsessing over a parasocial relationship with a celebrity. y’all can listen to the music without making your identity around her!!
Kid Cudi evidently had to get some things off his chest over the weekend. The 39-year-old rapper/actor took to Twitter on Saturday (July 22) to address homophobia.
“[You] know what’s crazy, and really makes me question the world we live in, is when I post a picture of me smiling on IG and there’s mad comments questioning my sexuality floodin my page [with] insults,” he wrote. “I feel really bad for y’all man. It’s sad out here. Man can’t even smile and be happy no more. Smh.”
Kid Cudi continued in a second tweet, “It’s like, ‘Oh [he’s] smiling TOO hard!! He DEF sucks a d###!’ Its like word?? That’s what we [are] on now??” Moments later he also added, “Homophobic and sad and will be miserable their whole lives.”
The comment section from Kid Cudi’s Instagram photo from five days ago is filled with users remarking about the Grammy winner’s possible sexual preference. For example, one person wrote, “Cudi u look like the dominant one in a lesbian relationship.”
Another person posted, “Bro got a secret he wanna share with us.” Someone else commented, “Chill with the zest bro.” Yet another Instagram account typed, “Bro turning zestier and zestier.”
This wasn’t the first time Kid Cudi faced accusations of being a homosexual or bisexual man. In 2021, Cudi performed on Saturday Night Live while wearing a Virgil Abloh-designed, Kurt Cobain-inspired dress.
“The image of seeing Kurt Cobain in a dress was very Rock n’ Roll to me,” Cudi said on an episode of The Shop: Uninterrupted. “That was cool. So I already made my mind up years ago that I wanted to do this. And it’s cool because I’m also giving confidence to the kids and telling them to be themselves and do what they want to do.”
U know whats crazy, and really makes me question the world we live in, is when I post a picture of me smiling on ig and theres mad comments questioning my sexuality floodin my page w insults. I feel really bad for yall man. Its sad out here. Man cant even smile and be happy no…
During his conversation with Montreality, Black spoke about his apparent relationship with Drake. The discussion took place backstage at the Rolling Loud Portugal festival.
“That boy Aubrey,” he said. “That’s my dog. Drake sent me like 600 bands in Bitcoin. Drake dropped that s### on me. Drake my n###a, though. He said I’m his favorite rapper. I love that n####.
The Painting Pictures rapper didn’t seem to have the same feelings about Drake’s Her Loss collaborator, 21 Savage. Earlier this year, Kodak Black stated he wanted to delay working with Drake on music because of his connection to the London-born artist.
“I had told Drake I don’t wanna do no collab,” he told Complex in February. “No songs or no album. Cause we supposed to been did a whole album before him a lil buddy did that s### I had told him I wanted to wait.”
It has been a difficult few years for Megan Thee Stallion. The Houston-bred recording artist lost her mother in 2019, then she had to deal with getting shot in 2020 and the years-long legal process to convict Tory Lanez for the incident.
After a California jury found Lanez guilty of three felony charges in December 2022, it now appears Megan is back to regularly making music. Over the weekend, the 28-year-old rapper suggested new tunes could be coming in the near future.
On Sunday (July 23), Megan Thee Stallion shared a short video on her Instagram Story. The clip features the Roc Nation performer sitting in what appears to be a home recording studio. She added the caption, “I’m back in that mode. It’s that time.”
Megan The Stallion’s IG Story
Megan Thee Stallion has released two studio albums—2020’s platinum-certified Good News and 2022’s Traumazine. Both projects peaked in the Top 5 of the Billboard 200 chart.
The self-described Hot Girl Coach also scored Billboard 200 Top 10 entries with EPs and mixtapes such as 2019’s Fever, 2020’s Suga and 2021’s Something for Thee Hotties.
In addition, Megan Thee Stallion reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart on two occasions. Her hit single “Savage” led the chart in 2020. She also teamed up with Cardi B for “WAP,” which remained at No. 1 for four weeks.
Last year saw Megan collaborate with Dua Lipa (“Sweetest Pie”), Future (“Pressurelicious”), Key Glock (“Ungrateful”) and Latto (“Budget”) for Hot 100 entries. Solo records such as “Megan’s Piano,” “Plan B” and “Her” made it onto the chart as well.
Megan The Stallion returned to the stage multiple times over the last several weeks. Her twerk-heavy set at the 2023 Essence Festival in New Orleans caused some controversy. She’ll also perform at the 2023 Global Citizen Festival in New York City later this year.
Rolling Loud Miami organizers tapped A$AP Rocky and Travis Scott as headliners for the 2023 edition—but the two rap stars have more in common.
Scott dated Barbadian megastar Rihanna around 2015. Rihanna is currently pregnant with her second child by A$AP Rocky. The celebrity couple have been dating for more than two years.
“It’s times when I feel like I’ve pioneered a lot of s### but don’t get acknowledgment from certain people or artists,” Rocky answered in 2018 when asked about Scott allegedly stealing his style. “I think a lot of people see it too.”
The following year, A$AP Rocky declared any beef he may have had with Travis Scott was “played out” and told fans to “let it go.”
THAT ME N TRAVIS BEEF S### SO PLAYED OUT , LET IT GO
Then in a 2022 interview with Drink Champs, Rocky acknowledged his belief that he inspired Scott.
The potential bad blood between A$AP Rocky and Travis Scott could be on the rise. Rocky’s set at Rolling Loud Miami on Sunday (July 23) left listeners questioning if he took a subtle shot at Scott.
“First you stole my flow, so I stole your b####,” A$AP Rocky rapped onstage. Those lyrics spread across the internet, and social media users began debating whether they were intended for the “Sicko Mode” rapper.
Travis Scott headlined Night 2 of the 2023 Rolling Loud Miami festival on Saturday (July 22). The father of Kylie Jenner’s two children is expected to drop his fourth studio album, Utopia, on Friday (July 28).
Azealia Banks unleashed on Nicki Minaj in a scathing Instagram rant, claiming she needs to divorce her husband and overhaul her image with a stint in rehab.
The outspoken rapper took to her Instagram Stories Sunday night (July 23), claiming Minaj is being “used as a marketing pawn” and forced to collaborate with rising female artists because she has been blacklisted over her husband Kenneth Petty’s past.
Nicki Minaj shares a son with Petty, who was convicted of first-degree attempted rape in 1995 and sentenced to more than four years in prison.
Azealia Banks began her series of lengthy posts by claiming Nicki Minaj’s appearance on the Barbie soundtrack “should have been the return of the queen of f###### bubblegum pop.”
She said it was Minaj’s “moment” to shine but alleged the Ice Spice collab was “forced” upon her. According to Banks, Nicki Minaj will “continuously be forced to acknowledge new rap girls and be used as a marketing pawn until she [separates] fully from any and all associations/relations with sex offenders.”
Banks also declared, “Ice spice highkey ate you in your own space” and said Spice’s original “Princess Diana” song is “better” than the remix featuring Nicki Minaj.
“Desperation and defeat is not a good look on you,” she continued. “Please realize that the game being played against you is bigger than whatever flavor of the moment Girl hits the scene. Please stop trying to out hoodrat these new girls and get back to boxing these white pop stars out.”
