Father’s Day landed on Sunday (June 16) and, par for the course, a flood of emotional posts are inundating social media.
From those who have lost their fathers to those who are able to be with them in person, a laundry list of Hip-Hop artists are paying tribute to the men in their lives who molded them into the people they are today. Pioneering rappers like Jimmy Spicer—whose 1980 single “Adventures of Super Rhyme (Rap)” was one of the earliest recorded Hip-Hop songs—and Biz Markie were commemorated in Instagram posts shared by their loved ones.
Ice T, Naughty By Nature’s Treach, Dame Dash, Yelawolf, Chika, Sleepy Brown—who celebrated generations of Browns, including his father and Brick founder Jimmy Brown—Jurassic 5’s Chali2na and Brand Nubian’s Lord Jamar were just a handful of people celebrating fathers.
Kanye West’s Sunday Service choir performances provided more than just a place of worship for a former Def Jam artist.
In a dramatic turn of events, Kacy Hill—once a promising talent under West’s G.O.O.D. Music label—recently opened up at a concert about her tumultuous journey to break free from her record deal with Def Jam. Hill, known for her ethereal voice and soulful music, shared the incredible story of how she found an unlikely savior in West after putting in some major legwork. Apparently, it all began with album cover.
“The Kanye West, we’ve all heard of him, I think,” Hill began. “So, I was signed to him. I was signed to G.O.O.D. Music. It was so crazy. Def Jam basically paid to shoot all the album cover for my second album, whatever.
“And then they were like, ‘Actually, we don’t know if we want you still’. And I was like, ‘That’s crazy. I don’t want to be here either’. And then they were like, ‘We actually don’t want to pay for that’. But I had already shot it, and I was like, ‘OK, crazy. And I was like, ‘So do you want me or do you not? What are we doing here?”
Caught in a limbo of indecision and contractual obligations, Hill found herself in a bizarre predicament. Long story short, there was one man—and one man only—who could help her navigate her exit from the label.
“We were in, I was literally in a situationship with Def Jam records where I was like, what are we? And anyway, they were like, ‘We actually can’t keep you or let you go. The only person that can keep you or let you go for your next record is Kanye West himself,” she said.
The revelation that her fate rested in West’s hands was daunting, especially since he had adopted a unique approach to communication. “I was like, no problem. However, at that time he decided he didn’t want to use email and he also didn’t have an assistant. So I was like, that is so crazy,” Hill recounted with a hint of disbelief.
Determined to secure her freedom, Hill embarked on a journey that would test her patience and resolve. It was at this point, Hill had to literally lock in and go on a wild goose chase to track down West, who had practically unplugged from the grid, despite still having high visibility.
“For six months of my life, I went to Sunday Service,” she revealed. Kanye’s Sunday Service, known for its gospel music and celebrity attendees, became her weekend pilgrimage. “I went to Sunday Service every weekend of my life for six months or something,” she added.
Hill’s persistence was nothing short of remarkable. She described the surreal experience as something close to being a wedding crasher.
“It was like going to someone’s wedding with a contract in your hand where I’d go and I’d be like, ‘That was really beautiful, sir’. And then I’d be like, ‘Can we talk?'” she said.
Despite her repeated attempts to discuss her contract, the outcome remained elusive, at first.
“And every time he was like, ‘Okay. And I’d be like, ‘Okay.”
After months of relentless effort, Hill finally received a breakthrough invitation.
“Finally, he was like, ‘Okay, come to rehearsal on Friday’. I was like, ‘Sick’. And then I was like, ‘What the f##k is rehearsal?’ I didn’t know where and when rehearsal was,” she said laughing.
Eventually, Hill found herself in an office in Calabasas, face-to-face with West.
“He was like, ‘Why are you here? And I was like, ‘I need to get out of this deal’,” she told the audience. West apparently responded “‘OK, what do I need to do?’ And I was like, ‘You can text literally anyone and say that I’m done’. And so he did and he texted someone and said I was done. And I was done.”
Hill’s story concluded on a high note as she recalled West’s reaction to her music. “And then afterwards I played him my second record and he was like, ‘This is cool. Could you make it a gospel song? And I was like, ‘Sure, whatever you want’.”
Kacy Hill’s saga is a testament to her perseverance and the power of personal connections. Despite the challenges she faced, her collaboration with Kanye West remains a significant chapter in her career. West, known for his unpredictable yet impactful influence in the music industry, has worked with Hill on tracks such as “90210” and “Say You Will.”
As we’ve established, Diddy Combs attended the esteemed Howard University. Although he never graduated, he was once the pride and joy of the college. However, now he seems to be a source of shame and sorrow. The school said Diddy is “no longer worthy to hold the institution’s highest honor.” The school recently revoked his honorary degree and returned the $1 million donation he had given. They also said keep the 2023 million that was never honored. But did he actually give that money to them?
Much was made of this donation because $1 million is a significant amount. For someone to return that, it would be a big deal. Most historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) face financial challenges in raising funds and getting support, so $1 million would have been a substantial contribution. However, it turns out – inside sources say – they never actually received the money. So, that means they never got the first million or the second million either, if this is true.
I have read the statement from the school multiple times, and while it implies that they gave the money back, it essentially says they do not want any of the money now. With all of his legal troubles, it does not appear that they would even be able to receive those funds. On the positive side, there is now an overwhelming groundswell of support from alumni and others who are donating money to make up for the loss.
Howard University is one of the top schools in the nation and one of the prominent HBCUs in the country. Back in the day, Biggie and Diddy would go there and perform (see above video). I bet that was a lot of fun! Although these days may not be as vibrant as back then, the students at the school now are still amazing, and I hope they continue to receive support from around the world. This is not intended to paint Diddy in a poor light but rather to show support for Howard!
Sean Paul remembered the genesis of his friendship with Beyoncé, a collaboration that catapulted both artists to global acclaim with their 2003 chart-topper “Baby Boy.”
Years before they became household names, a serendipitous performance in Jamaica laid the groundwork for his future alliance with Beyoncé.
“She opened on a show here in Jamaica with Destiny’s Child. They only had one song, and I was on that same show. That’s where we all met. And knowing she called me back a couple of years later for her first solo project was awesome,” Sean Paul said.
Sean vividly recalled penning his verse for their massive hit single “Baby Boy” in a pastoral setting.
“I was writing my part of the song in the back of my house underneath a mango tree. And while I’m writing my verse, a mango falls out the tree and lands straight through the window of my car into my lap. And I was like, ‘That must mean that this song is a sweet song.'”
Reflecting on this pivotal period, Sean Paul praised Beyoncé for embracing the Dancehall music genre.
“At the time, people were hollering at me to do collabs—I was working with Busta Rhymes, I was doing stuff with Clipse and Blu Cantrell—and all of those things were very dope but they were more Hip-Hop oriented. This was such a big artist, and she was stepping out on her own.”
Janelle Monáe, who identifies as non-binary, shed light on their criteria for selecting film roles.
“The story is the big one. Also the set: I love places that have snacks like Skittles and M&Ms; on set! But, really, I love to get to know the characters and feel with anything I’m doing. I really have to feel it in my p#### hairs – they have to vibrate,” she told The Guardian.
Janelle Monáe expressed an eagerness to join the cast of the upcoming third installment of the “Knives Out” franchise.
And true to her word, Monáe shared, “My underarm hairs definitely tingled when I got the ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’ script.”
Despite the series’ tradition of featuring a new ensemble each time, Janelle Monáe remains hopeful for a return after her enjoyable experience filming “Glass Onion,” the 2022 sequel.
Janelle Monáe, known for their roles in “Hidden Figures” and their music career, cherished working with director Rian Johnson and the star-studded cast in Greece for “Glass Onion,” praising the collaboration.
“That was exciting, to go to Greece and work with Rian Johnson, who is a wonderful human. The whole cast were amazing; I loved having the opportunity to be in a film with Daniel Craig,” Monáe stated to The Guardian. “I’m so excited for ‘Knives Out 3’ – I want to be a part of it so badly that I might get plastic surgery and audition as a brand new character.”
In “Glass Onion,” Janelle Monáe portrayed Cassandra ‘Andi’ Brand and her identical twin sister Helen, sharing the screen with Edward Norton, Kate Hudson, Kathryn Hahn, and Dave Bautista.
The next film, “Wake Up Dead Man,” started production this week and will include performances from Josh Brolin, Kerry Washington, Cailee Spaeny, Glenn Close, Josh O’Connor, Andrew Scott, and Jeremy Renner.
Director Yann Demange has exited Mahershala Ali’s “Blade” film, adding another hurdle to Marvel’s ambitious project.
The Wrap reported that Demange’s departure leaves the project’s leadership void as Marvel searches for a new director for the long-awaited reboot.
Initially, Demange had stepped in to replace Bassam Tariq of “Mogul Mowgli” fame, who himself withdrew over creative disagreements.
This marks the second time “Blade” has lost a director, casting uncertainty over its future.
Marvel’s Eric Pearson, known for his work on “Fantastic Four,” is currently drafting the latest script iteration. Nic Pizzolatto and Michael Green crafted previous versions.
“Blade” has faced numerous challenges since its reveal at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019. Its initial production start date of late 2022 was pushed back following Tariq’s unexpected exit.
Further delays ensued amid last year’s writers’ strike, despite Mahershala Ali’s commitment to the titular role, briefly teased in a voice cameo during the post-credits of 2021’s “Eternals.”
Marvel remains cautious about not rushing the production.
An insider revealed that the studio prioritizes perfecting the storyline over adhering to a hasty schedule.
With “Deadpool & Wolverine,” “Captain America: Brave New World,” “Thunderbolts,” and “Fantastic Four” already lined up – either completed or mid-production – Marvel can afford to take its time with “Blade,” currently slated for release in November 2025.
The task of bringing the iconic vampire hunter back to life is no small feat.
Snoop Dogg grabbed the spotlight at the Brewers’ American Family Field with a flair as he provided some wild commentary during the Milwaukee Brewers game against the Cincinnati Reds.
The night began with Snoop, dressed in a Brewers jersey, throwing out the ceremonial first pitch.
His presence electrified the crowd as he walked through the Brewers’ clubhouse, snapping photos with players and signing autographs for excited fans.
But it was in the Bally Sports Wisconsin broadcast booth with Bill Schroeder and Brian Anderson where Snoop Dogg gave an unforgettable performance.
Fans and players alike couldn’t get enough of Snoop’s humorous and animated commentary.
During a thrilling play, he cheered Christian Yelich after he hit a single to the right infield and raced Reds’ pitcher Elly De La Cruz to first base.
“He better not outrun you! You better not let the pitcher outrun you dog!” Thankfully for Yelich, he beat De La Cruz.
“Come on now that’s what I’m talking about!” Snoop Dogg exclaimed.
The footage of Snoop’s time in the broadcast booth spread like wildfire online, with baseball fans demanding more of his colorful commentary.
This wasn’t Snoop Dogg’s first foray into the world of sports commentary.
In 2020, he gained fame for his hilarious commentary on equestrian dressage during the Tokyo Olympics and continued expanding his sporting credentials.
NBC has even tapped him as a Special Correspondent for their primetime coverage of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, where he will provide regular reports and commentary.
Rapper Kodak Black threatened to knock out SteveWillDoIt after the YouTuber claimed Kodak attempted to rob him of a $500,000 Richard Mille watch.
SteveWillDoIt accused Kodak Black of the attempted theft in a series of tweets.
“Do rappers make money? Kodak Black just tried to rob me for my Richard Mille,” he tweeted. “Is every rapper broke? The guy smokes meth, probably insane. Kodak Black is 100% on drugs.”
The accusation, which SteveWillDoIt eventually deleted, sparked a heated exchange between the two public figures.
“That’s why I hate drunk s###. I hate drunk s###. People always get beside they self. That’s why I don’t drink liquor no more,” Kodak Black said.
“Why are you being prejudiced, sir? Have you saw me do any drugs? You made a tweet to the whole world like I wasn’t finna get on the internet and say, ‘Oh, SteveWillDoIt is a b#### ‘ I told you to your face and I threw your s### on the floor,” Kodak Black added in an angry IG live.
The incident, which allegedly occurred without context or additional witnesses, remains shrouded in uncertainty.
However, Kodak Black appears to be taking the accusations seriously enough to threaten SteveWillDoIt with physical harm.
“I don’t give [expletive] about none of them muscles or that tight ass suit you was wearing yesterday,” Kodak fired back. “I told you to your [expletive] face. A n#### will knock your drunk ass out.”
The back-and-forth has drawn significant attention online, with fans and followers weighing in on the dispute.
While some support SteveWillDoIt’s version of events, others find it implausible that Kodak, who reportedly owns multiple high-end watches, would attempt such a theft.
Rapper Lil Uzi has sparked an intense debate over masculinity and femininity in Hip-Hop.
The Philadelphia rapper teamed up with Marc Jacobs to introduce the limited-edition 40th Anniversary Tote Bag in collaboration with the estate of the late American artist Stephen Sprouse.
The new Stephen Sprouse x Marc Jacobs tote was announced accompanied by images of Lil Uzi in oversized shorts striking a pose.
Lil Uzi was styled by Alastair McKimm and photographed by Nick Newbold holding the vibrant green tote, which features Sprouse’s signature graffiti print.
The tote bag captures the essence of Sprouse’s vibrant graffiti art with the quote, “Grant me the serenity to chill.”
However, Lil Uzi’s involvement in the advertising campaign garnered the most attention, which is most likely the goal.
Lil Uzi’s management company, Roc Nation, and Marc Jacobs’s official Instagram account posted the photos.
People debated the rap stars’ involvement. Some claimed Hip-Hop was deliberately being feminized, while others blasted Marc Jacobs for not using a woman in the campaign.
One user offered an opinion about the music genre of the related post, saying, “To each his own… just stop calling this HIP HOP. This is Pop music I wish him well.”
Legendary rap veteran DJ Chuck Chillout expressed his disapproval. “Straight ridiculous this is NOT HIP HOP,” he wrote under the image.
One user, g1vontae, suggested a viewpoint that society often favors self-embarrassment over self-empowerment, hinting at a belief that actions such as men dressing in traditionally feminine attire might be seen as an opportunity for ridicule rather than a liberating choice.
Another user wrote “This ain’t rocnation it’s fruitnation.”
Another said, “If you asked @jayz @biggsburke and @duskopoppington in 1996 what the Roc Boys would look like in 2024…I don’t think this is what they had in mind. Who is running s### over there anyway?? Tf.”
Rah Digga,” simply stated, “I’m just here for the comments,” accompanied by a popcorn emoji as the mayhem in comments unfolded.
Chris Brown made headlines by charging fans $1,000 for a VIP meet-and-greet experience that includes a photo opportunity. The premium package, part of his tour promotions, provides fans with a chance to interact with the artist more personally, albeit at a steep price.
While some fans have criticized the high cost as excessive and exclusionary, others have embraced it as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet their favorite performer.
One photo, in particular, is making the rounds online. The image shows Brown and the fan touching fingers in a bizarre pose. The caption read: “Paying $1,000 to meet another man just to take a picture like this is crazy to me. But go off.”
Comments quickly flooded the post with one person writing, “If I’m paying $1000 for a picture, I’m definitely making him do some weird, out of the ordinary poses lol.” Snow Tha Product, however, thought there was nothing wrong with it. She added, “Chris really into it. That’s cool!” Dee-1 added, “go off!”
Most people celebrated the photo and criticized anyone poking fun at the fan. As one person said, “Caring about what another man spends his money on is the reason most of yall don’t get no money.”
Chris Brown’s approach to monetizing fan interactions highlights the evolving dynamics of celebrity-fan relationships in the modern entertainment industry, where exclusivity and personalized experiences are increasingly being commodified.
Brown is currently on his 11:11 Tour in support of his 11th studio album, 11:11. The tour kicked off on June 5 at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit and includes 26 stops across North America, including major cities like Chicago, Toronto and New York.
Special guests Ayra Starr and Muni Long will join him on various dates, with Starr performing from the start of the tour until June 22, and Long joining for the later dates. The tour will feature performances from both artists, highlighting their rising presence in the R&B genre alongside Brown.
Kel Mitchell recounted a heated clash with former Nickelodeon showrunner Dan Schneider inside a closet on the set of “All That.”
Schneider, who faced a barrage of accusations earlier this year, including sexism, racism, and inappropriate behavior, was a central figure in the controversial docuseries “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV.”
Speaking on the “Baby, This is Keke Palmer” podcast, Kel Mitchell, who did not participate in the documentary, shared his personal confrontation with Schneider.
He noted a dramatic shift in the atmosphere of “All That” when Schneider assumed control from creator Brian Robbins.
“They left us with the head writer, Dan Schneider. So he’s writing, and me and him kind of bump heads a little bit,” Kel Mitchell, now 45, recalled. “I remember me and Dan had a big argument on set. He was like, ‘Let’s go over here to this room right here, in this closet.’ He closed the door and he just took off, you know, just yelling all this wild stuff.”
Kel Mitchell was clear about the impact of this confrontation, reflecting on his decision-making process at the time.
“Being an adult at this point, I had a decision to make, you know what I mean? I was just like, ‘Okay, either we are going to fight or either I’m going to leave.’ And so that’s what I did. I left the situation.”
Mitchell’s relationship with Schneider became increasingly strained during his time on “All That” from 1994 to 1999.
Kel Mitchell and co-star Kenan Thompson also headlined the popular Nickelodeon series “Kenan & Kel” from 1996 to 2001.
Following the release of “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV,” Schneider issued a statement vehemently denying most of the allegations against him.
However, he did express regret over asking employees for neck massages.
Schneider later pursued legal action against the docuseries’ producers, arguing they falsely suggested he was a child sex abuser by associating his image with that of convicted sex offender Brian Peck.
Blac Chyna, born Angela Renée White, was born in Washington, D.C. and later attended Johnson & Wales University in Miami before pursuing a career in modeling and stripping. She initially gained attention as a dancer at Miami’s King of Diamonds, which led to her being featured in various music videos, including “Monster” by Kanye West.
After two high-profile relationships with Tyga and reality star Rob Kardashian—which included the short-lived show Rob & Chyna—White re-directed her life and disavowed plastic surgery, drugs and alcohol and unhealthy relationships. Now, White is celebrating 21 months of sobriety.
Taking to Instagram on Friday (June 14), she shared a video of herself dancing around in her backyard and holding a sign that read, “21 months sober.”
She wrote in the caption, “Let’s Dance 21 months Sober. Sept 14, 2022 Thank you God, Thank you Jesus , Thank you Holy Spirit!”
Blac Chyna has been open about undergoing several plastic surgery procedures, contributing to her distinctive appearance and public persona. She has admitted to having multiple cosmetic enhancements, including breast augmentations, liposuction, and buttock augmentation.
Her transformations have often sparked discussions and debates within the media and among her fans regarding body image and the pressures of maintaining a certain aesthetic in the entertainment industry. Blac Chyna’s willingness to discuss her surgeries candidly has also played a role in normalizing cosmetic enhancements in popular culture.
Despite the controversies and criticisms surrounding her choices, she continues to assert her autonomy over her body and appearance, emphasizing personal empowerment and the importance of individual choice.
In January, she opened up about the horrors she faced after a breast augmentation and butt reduction in 2023.
“Quick story time about the breasts,” she began. “So earlier this year, I was like, ‘You know what? I want to take out my boobs. I’m kind of over it. I’m tired of fake look. They’re too big for my body, too big for my frame, and it just doesn’t fit me as a person anymore.’”
Chyna said the doctor suggested she go “smaller” to see how her skin retracts, so she decided to reduce her implant size from 585 to 385 cubic centimeters but ran into complications: “My left breast was encapsulated where the muscle had contracted around the implant and it just was so painful.”
Blac Chyna revealed her second surgery in December 2023 reduced her breast size down to 190cc to prevent her boobs from being “mush” and causing further issues.
Despite the complications, Chyna told her followers she is “very happy” and “excited” to be part of the “Itty Bitty T#### Committee.”
Sean “Diddy” Combs has reportedly returned his symbolic “key” to New York City at the request of Mayor Eric Adams. In a letter written to the embattled Hip-Hop mogul, Adams noted how “deeply disturbed” he was seeing the video of Diddy assaulting Cassie Ventura.
He continued, “I strongly condemn these actions and stand in solidarity with all survivors of domestic and gender-based violence. Our city has worked tirelessly to make sure survivors are heard and seen by our administration. The Key to the City of New York is presented to individuals whose service to the public and the common good rises to the highest level of achievement, and who act as a model for fellow and future New Yorkers.
“After internal deliberations, the Key to the City of New York committee recommended nullifying and rescinding Mr. Combs’ Key. I have accepted their recommendation, and am requesting that Mr. Combs immediately return his Key to the City to New York City Hall, Office of the Mayor.”
TMZreports the letter was fired off on June 4 and Diddy returned the key on June 10. Last month, Mayor Adams said a revocation was under consideration in an interview with PIX11 News.
“I think all of us were deeply disturbed by watching that chilling video of the young lady being assaulted by him,” Adams told the outlet. “The committee and the team — we’ve never rescinded a key before — but we are now sitting down to see what the next steps forward are going to be.”
Diddy received the key to the city in September 2023, just a few months before Ventura sued him for sexual and physical assault. Ventura’s lawsuit detailed an incident in which the Bad Boy Records founder assaulted her at a Los Angeles hotel in 2016. CNN released surveillance footage from the hotel on May 17, corroborating her allegations.
Diddy responded to the assault video by apologizing in an Instagram post. He claimed to be “truly sorry.”
“It’s so difficult to reflect on the darkest times in your life, but sometimes you got to do that,” he said on Instagram. “I was f##### up. I hit rock bottom. But I make no excuses. My behavior on that video is inexcusable.”
Ventura’s lawyer later criticized Diddy’s apology, calling it “disingenuous” and full of “pathetic desperation.”
Diddy and Ventura settled her lawsuit out of court in November 2023, causing a flood of similar allegations by multiple women. The feds raided his homes as part of a sex trafficking investigation in March.
A new documentary film delves into mixtapes’ vital role in shaping Hip-Hop, featuring conversations with notable figures like Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, and DJ Drama.
“Tale of the Tape: How the Mixtape Revolutionized Hip-Hop,” from executive producer DJ Envy, legendary journalist Kim Osorio and acclaimed producer Malik K. Buie, has debuted on Amazon, Verizon, Spectrum, and Red Summer TV.
The documentary dives deep into the mixtape culture, showcasing how DJs and mixtapes gave Hip-Hop artists a platform before they hit mainstream success.
The film portrays a raw and authentic snapshot of artists such as Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Wiz Khalifa, and Future during their early careers, capturing their formative years.
Kim Osorio and Malik K. Buie, both deeply rooted in Hip-Hop culture, have spent several years meticulously crafting this project.
“Mixtape culture has influenced Hip-Hop infinitely. The biggest artists today, the greatest DJs ever—mixtapes are the connective tissue. Through my years of storytelling, it always kind of just came up and I was like, I have to tell this story. It has to be told our way,” Osorio told AllHipHop.
The documentary highlights gender disparity within Hip-Hop and stresses the contributions of female DJs and industry professionals.
Osorio made a significant effort to promote female representation, featuring interviews with DJ Diamond Kuts, Vash, and Karen Civil.
The film educates viewers on the cultural and historical importance of mixtapes and urges a deeper dive into authentic storytelling in Hip-Hop.
“I want people to start getting into the nuances of storytelling and Hip-Hop, going deeper into the history of the culture, into people that aren’t as celebrated but that were really the foundation of what we see as a billion-dollar business today,” Osorio emphasized.
Despite its comprehensive scope, “Tale of the Tape” acknowledges the need for further exploration, particularly concerning regional influences like the South and West Coast.
Osorio and Buie are already planning future installments to cover these areas, and they remain committed to documenting Hip-Hop culture.
Osorio remains active in television production and is working on new projects and series.
Buie, alongside Osorio, is set to produce more documentaries under the “Tale of the Tape” banner, each delving into different aspects of Hip-Hop history.
“If you aren’t going to tell your own story, somebody is going to tell it for you. The next time we call you for an interview, come do the interview because you will have to have your own voice to be able to say what your piece is. And I think that’s just part of storytelling,” Osorio urged the Hip-Hop community.
“I want people to understand and appreciate the legacy and history of what mixtape DJs have contributed to the culture. Your biggest artist, your favorite artist, this is truly where they come from,” Buie added.
Mos Def is being linked to one of the latest rising stars, thanks to fans of the growing trend in live performance content platforms.
It’s possible that you may have either seen clips or heard audio from the viral performance the artist producer did for OnTheRadar last month, due to her bop “Not My Problem” stealing the show. And now, social media users are in belief Laila! is the daughter of Mos Def aka Yasiin Bey.
After a Twitter (X) user reached more than 2.6 million viewers with a single tweet featuring a clip of Laila’s performance with the caption “streets saying that’s Mos Def kid,” an apparent all-out internet investigation began.
In a follow-up tweet in the thread, another user appeared to unearth a vintage photo of her with her alleged father and mother.
“WAITTTTT’” the user wrote in part. “I had to dig for this but I have a photo from one of his old concerts & his kids were there. This is so paparazzi lmao but it absolutely looks like the same girl omg.”
Another user dug up a Instagram post featuring a photo of Laila! with her mother, speculating she was in the initial concert photo opposite of the Black Star MC. Then, another user chipped in and deduced the fact that Laila! shares the same last name as Def, whose given name is Dante Terrell Smith. Not to mention, it’s hard mot to see the likeness between the young girl in the photo with Def and the obvious photo of Laila! with her mom.
But whether or not the deep seated fan theory of true, Laila! is bound to create a legacy of her own. Making it well known she produces her own music, because it’s in her social media bio, she clearly has the vocal talent and ambiance of a star already. To be frank, her music reminds me of early SZA stuff like “Teen Spirit”. Especially her viral single “Like That” which has taken over social media in somewhat of the same way SZA’s did in the 2010s. Maybe it all runs in the family, maybe not, I don’t really mind either way way—but still kind of cool if so. Messy, I know!
WAITTTTT. I had to dig for this but I have a photo from one of his old concerts & his kids were there.
Rihanna and ASAP Rocky’s journey into parenthood has been marked by memorable milestones and a shared love for their growing family.
Their first son, RZA, entered the world in May 2022, with the name later revealed.
Rihanna’s Super Bowl halftime show in February 2023 added another layer of excitement when she used the platform to announce her second pregnancy.
By August 2023, the couple welcomed their second son, Riot Rose Mayers.
Rihanna has often expressed that motherhood is all-encompassing, stating she can’t recall life before having children.
And now, she is hoping for more children with the rap star.
During an interview with ET, Rihanna touched on her personal life, responding to whether she and her partner, A$AP Rocky, plan to expand their family.
“You know what, I hope so. I do. I’m not pregnant if that’s what you’re asking,” she said.
As for ASAP Rocky, he regards their children as their “best creation” and calls his partnership with Rihanna their “best collaboration.”
Despite their duties as parents, Rihanna is still focused on business.
In addition to launching Fenty Hair, Rihanna dismissed rumors of her retirement when she announced her plans for a new album and assured fans the slogan on her t-shirt, “I’m retired,” was merely a joke.
“Music, for me, is a new discovery. I’m rediscovering things,” Rihanna told ET. “I have been working on the album for so long that I put all that stuff aside, and now I’m prepared to go back in the studio.
“So, I’m now prepared. I’m gonna start. So, you know, give me a second. Yes, I’m starting over, but I don’t wanna neglect the songs that I have. I wanna listen to stuff with new ears, with my new perspective, and then see what still applies and what I’m still in love with.”
Rihanna’s last album, Anti, hit the charts in January 2016, making it a long eight years since its release.
Antonio Brown called out JAY-Z over his lack of participation in Hip-Hop 50 events last year.
The former National Football League star recently made his feelings crystal clear in a social media post, re-sharing a video of the Roc Nation mogul’s surprise performance at Tom Brady’s Patriots Hall of Fame induction ceremony on June 12.
He wrote, “Jay didn’t perform at any Hip-Hop 50 concerts last year where the fans would have known every word to his songs, but he makes time to ignored by rich white folks. smh.”
Jay didn’t perform at any Hip Hop 50 concerts last year where the fans would’ve known every word to his songs, but he makes time to get ignored by rich folks smh. #CTESPNhttps://t.co/DZjbl8x5n9
Tom Brady was officially inducted into the New England Patriots Hall of Fame, becoming the 35th member to receive this honor. The ceremony, which took place inside Gillette Stadium for the first time, attracted thousands of fans eager to celebrate Brady’s legendary career.
The event featured speeches from Patriots owner Robert Kraft, former head coach Bill Belichick, and former rival Peyton Manning, each highlighting Brady’s unparalleled contributions to the team and the sport. Notably, Kraft announced that Brady’s iconic No. 12 jersey would be retired, ensuring no other Patriot will wear the number.
JAY-Z’s relationship with the NFL began in 2019 when Roc Nation entered into a partnership with the league. The collaboration focuses on advising the NFL on live music events, including the Super Bowl halftime show, and supports the league’s social justice initiatives through the “Inspire Change” program.
The move was controversial, given the NFL’s previous handling of player protests against racial injustice, particularly those led by Colin Kaepernick. JAY-Z’s involvement was intended to bring a fresh perspective to the league’s entertainment offerings while also pushing for systemic changes within the organization.
JAY-Z’s partnership with the NFL has sparked discussions about his broader ambitions, including potential part-ownership of an NFL team, which would align with his long-term goals of increasing Black representation and influence within major business sectors.
Despite initial backlash from some fans and activists who viewed the partnership as a betrayal of the protest movement, JAY-Z has emphasized the importance of moving from protest to actionable change. By leveraging his influence, JAY-Z aims to address social issues from within the establishment, promoting inclusivity and advocating for substantial reform.
Tiffany Haddish recounted her peculiar yet positive experience inside a Beverly Hills jail following her DUI arrest in November 2023.
Appearing on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” the 44-year-old actress narrated the events leading up to her detainment, which surprisingly began with a noble effort to serve Thanksgiving meals to the homeless.
Tiffany Haddish had been awake since 5 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day and spent her morning volunteering.
Following a family celebration, she intended to deliver leftover food to a friend who was in a bind due to a chef’s absence.
Jokingly reflecting on the situation, Tiffany Haddish said, “I’ve learned a valuable lesson. I should have sent it in an Uber or asked someone else to take it, but I wanted to deliver it myself because I saw an opportunity to talk business. I did have a drink, and I was very sleepy.”
Although the incident was serious, Haddish lightened the mood by discussing her lighthearted outlook on the arrest.
“I’m gonna tell you right now, if I ever commit a crime ever in life, I’m only doing it in Beverly Hills,” she quipped.
Tiffany Haddish confessed that the Beverly Hills police station was “the most beautiful police station I’ve ever been in in my life.”
Haddish, who hinted at prior encounters with jail in her younger years, humorously described her surprise at the Beverly Hills facilities.
“Oh, this is nice!” she remembered exclaiming, noting the impeccably clean cells, respectful officers, and even “sparkling water” from the sink.
Despite facing a serious charge of drunk driving for the second time in two years, Haddish turned the negative experience into a humorous tale.
“I’ve definitely learned something valuable from this experience,” she said.
Bebe Rexha’s unapologetic comments about G-Eazy ignited some drama in the Hip-Hop world when the 34-year-old singer confirmed she stood by her incendiary Instagram rant.
Last week, Rexha labeled the 35-year-old rapper an “ungrateful loser” and hinted at lingering tension from their past collaboration.
Taking to X, Bebe Rexha explained her decision to delete her Instagram story, criticizing G-Eazy.
“Someone from my team had me take down my Instagram story. I decided to remove it because it felt very negative and toxic. Sometimes trauma can lead us to react that way, and that period of my life was traumatizing,” she wrote on X.
Someone from my team had me take down my Instagram story. I decided to remove it because it felt very negative and toxic. Sometimes trauma can lead us to react that way, and that period of my life was traumatizing. I am writing this because I regret taking it down and I want to…
However, she made it clear that she still holds the same sentiments.
“I regret taking it down and I want to say that I still stand by what I said,” Rexha fumed.
The kerfuffle began when Bebe Rexha posted a screenshot of a group chat from her team, inquiring if she would collaborate with G-Eazy again.
Her response was swift and sharp: “You have my number. Why don’t you text me and ask me yourself you stuck up ungrateful loser. You’re lucky people are liking you again. Cause I could go in on all the s**tty things you’ve done and how you treated me after giving you your only real hit.”
She curtly concluded, “Btw the answer is no. Hope you good.”
In another jab, Rexha shared a photo of herself with singer Halsey, captioning it, “Bebe Rexha and Halsey talking about how they carried G-Eazy’s career.”
Bebe Rexha and G-Eazy collaborated on the 2015 track “Me, Myself & I” but it looks like their once-successful partnership has turned sour.
A Georgia cop had no clue who Lil Baby was when the officer stopped the Quality Control Music artist for illegally tinted windows in 2020.
Old bodycam footage of the rapper’s humorous interaction with the cop surfaced on Friday (June 14).
“Man, I’m a celebrity,” Lil Bay told the officer after learning he was pulled over for tinted windows. “Man, nobody can’t see me. Give me my ticket, let me ride.”
The cop responded, “I don’t know what celebrity you are.”
Lil Baby was unfazed. He urged the cop to give him a ticket, fearing someone would spot him on the street.
“It don’t matter,” he said. “Give me my ticket. Let me ride home. I can’t have nobody seeing me right here. I’ma let my window up … Give me a ticket.”
Later, Lil Baby joked about getting a ticket while the economy was suffering.
“Appreciate ya,” he told the cop. “Have a good day.”
But the cop was still wondering about Lil Baby’s celebrity status.
“Now, who are you?” the officer said.
The Billboard chart-topping artist replied, “My name Lil Baby.”
He also tried to justify his need for tinted windows.
“You gotta have tints in Atlanta,” he said. “These folks crazy. I’ll talk a ticket [rather] than somebody follow me home.”
