Now a certified billionaire, Giovanti’s hopes for the future are less about himself but more about the growth and development of the use of cannabis. Netflix Boss Admits “I Screwed Up The Internal Communication” Amid Dave Chappelle Controversy

The conversation around Dave Chappelle’s Netflix special, “The Closer” continues. A protest walkout organized by trans Netflix employees is set to take place today (Wednesday, October 20).

An interview Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos gave to Deadline, Variety, and The Hollywood Reporter was published last night where he addressed the backlash the organization has received after airing the special.

In the interview, Sarandos acknowledged responsibility and said:

“First, right upfront, I screwed up the internal communication — and I don’t mean just mechanically. I feel I should’ve made sure to recognize that a group of our employees was hurting very badly from the decision made, and I should’ve recognized upfront before going into a rationalization of anything the pain they were going through. I say that because I respect them deeply, and I love the contribution they have at Netflix. They were hurting, and I should’ve recognized that first.”

He further states that his stance remains unchanged. He was asked if he had second thoughts about his decision to address the issue in internal emails and his statement in one that content “does not translate to real-world harm.”

Sarandos wrote in the internal email to employees, “While some employees disagree, we have a strong belief that content on screen doesn’t directly translate to real-world harm. As a leadership team, we do not believe that The Closer is intended to incite hatred or violence against anyone (per our Sensitive Content guidelines).”

He responded by saying that this was unchartered territory as their internal emails have never been leaked to the press before and that “they were a conversation in progress.” He continued saying that the email “landed like a big blanket statement.” The statement intended to convey that “of course storytelling has an impact on the real world — sometimes positive and sometimes negative.”

He concluded, “It’s impossible to please everybody but we are trying to please a world that is made of people of different tastes, sensibilities and beliefs, and it becomes very difficult to do that for everybody.”

VERZUZ RUMORS: How The Big Daddy Kane And KRS-One Battle Was Supposed To Go…

Verzuz.

Big Daddy Kane and KRS-One still have the people talking. The rumors continue to come in bulk. Now, if you were looking at the battle, you may have noticed some various tensions, mishaps and even confusion at different points in the night. This spawned a few rumors that have yet to be fully answered. I almost did not address this, but yesterday Fat Joe did an Instagram conversation with Kane that touched on the rumor. So here it is.

Big Daddy Kane, at one point during the Verzuz, began to freestyle a pre-written rap that was not a song. Afterward, KRS-One then recites a rap off the top of the dome, which didn’t quite hit as hard. He then quickly adjusts and brings out Das EFX, the rap duo from EPMD’s#### Squad. This presented an interesting scenario, where they became unevenly yoked in the battle. As the night went on, there were other freestyles that were said on stage but they didn’t quite go head to head in the way as it was pre-planned. Kane was very diplomatic when he spoke to Fat Joe, stating that they did not go head to head in battle but they did get all the freestyles in. My rumors previously stated that they were to battle head-to-head for five rounds. This is in conjunction with previous interviews we’ve conducted that stated as much.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CVLvN1MvP-m/

However, those five rounds were split up a little bit differently than we expected. And this leads to the next rumor. DJ Scratch was condemned a bit because people said he was being an aggressive bully, trying to do too much from the stage. Again, if you look at AllHipHop‘s interviews with both Kane and KRS, they both wanted to represent Hip-Hop to the fullest. That is why you saw breakdancers on stage doing their thing in the midst of a rap battle. What most people don’t understand is that there was supposed to be a DJ battle as well (APPARENTLY), which is why you saw a champion like DJ Scratch and a King like DJ Kid Capri on the stage. We did not see DJ Mister Cee (BDK’s first DJ) or producer/DJ Marly Marl, because I think they wanted a different type of show.

It looks like when KRS-One pulled an audible, Kane did too.

Kane had too much respect for Kid Capri (KRS’s DJ!) to see DJ Scratch perform surgery on him with his tricks on the ones and twos.  If you notice, once Kane saw that Kid Capri had nothing for him substantive in that turntable department, he made Scratch stand down and just go back to playing the records for the format of the show. Now in Chuck Creekmur‘s Instagram live conversation, Crazy Legs stated that Kid Capri was the one that set off the new tone with the DJs when he started to rap against DJ Scratch. REMEMBER THAT? BUT Scratch had already gone at The Kid surgically scratching “wack DJ Kid Capri.” It got ugly really fast and I think Kane wanted to keep the tone very positive.

Swizz Beatz, Crazy Legs, Charlie Mack and others got on Instagram to talk Verzuz!

By the way, Big Daddy Kane had to rappers…Scoob and Scrap. Well…Only Scrap showed up! I heard there may be a “thing” between him and Kane. Scoob now goes by the name Johnny Famous and is doing his own thing so maybe he does not wanna be a dancer in 2021! I dunno! He said something on IG:

So where do we go from here? I think we all got what we wanted out of that Verzuz! We got to legends at the top of their game still duking it out in a way that there was no clear winner. The “winner” is whoever you wanted the winner to be. I believe it was a DRAW but if you don’t believe that, fine! I think that we all won and that is what is most important.

There’e MORE…maybe I will have more rumor in the future.

Who will be the next Verzuz battle? Tell me what you think in the comments!

Nicki Minaj $20 Million Default Set Aside As Rape Victim’s Lawyer Calls Out Her “Mentally Deranged Fans”

Nicki Minaj just scored a massive victory in her $20 million battle against her husband’s sexual assault victim.

A judge sided with Nicki and her lawyer Judd Burstein and has agreed to set aside a default judgment against the rapper.

Jennifer Hough was initially awarded the default judgment after Nicki Minaj and her husband, Kenneth “Zoo” Petty, failed to answer the complaint.

Earlier this week, Nicki Minaj wrote a letter to the judge, saying her lack of reply was due to a miscommunication between her and one of her managers.

The rap star said she meant to retain attorney Judd Burstein after a conversation shortly after becoming aware of the legal action.

But her manager did not realize Nicki had approved the payment to retain Burstein, and as a result, the complaint went unanswered.

After he was formally hired to represent Nicki, Burstein asked the judge to set aside the default judgment, so Nicki could adequately defend herself against the accusations Hough made.

In August, Jennifer Hough filed her lawsuit claiming Nicki and her husband Kenneth were harassing, bullying, and threatening her in an attempt to force her to recant rape allegations against Kenneth, who was convicted of the crime in 1995.

Hough claims the couple offered her as much as $500,000 to recant so that Kenneth could get his name off of the National Sex Offender Registry list.

Nicki Minaj’s husband is facing up to 10 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to failing to register as a sex offender in California, where he moved to be with the superstar rapper who was pregnant with their son.

Jennifer Hough claims the couple has threatened her with violence and even put a “bag on her head,” forcing her to move multiple times to different states.

Nicki Minaj, born Onika Tanya Maraj, has denied the allegations levied against her.

She says she has nothing to do with her husband’s rape case, and Jennifer Hough is targeting her because of her “deep pockets.”

Earlier today (October 19th), Jennifer Hough’s lawyers protested the ruling in Nicki Minaj’s favor and asked the judge overseeing the case to reconsider slapping the rapper with the default judgment.

One of Hough’s newly retained lawyers, Steven N. Gordon, said his client is still being subjected to threats from Nicki’s “mentally deranged” fans.

“Even after commencing the Action on August 13th, 2021, Ms. Maraj continued to shamelessly hurl insults to denigrate Ms. Hough,” Steven N. Gordon said. “Yet, while Ms. Maraj had time to make such disparaging statements on her Twitter account and enflame her mentally deranged fans into sending death threats to Ms. Hough and her counsel, Mr. [Tyrone] Blackburn, she ignored responding to the Amended Complaint.”

Gordon asked Judge Eric N. Vitaliano to “issue the Certificate of Default Judgment against Ms. Maraj for failure to timely respond to the Amended Complaint.”

“Despite Ms. Maraj ‘s celebrity status, she must be held to the same rules as everyone else,” Jennifer Hough’s lawyer Steven N. Gordon asked of the judge.

In an interesting twist, the default judgment against Kenneth Zoo Petty is still in place. The clerk upheld the default judgment against Kenneth for failing to respond to the lawsuit.

According to documents, it appears that Judd Burstein is only representing Nicki Minaj and not her husband.

Blue Ivy Carter Steals The Show In Beyoncé & Jay-Z’s Tiffany & Co. Ad

Blue Ivy Carter proved to be a scene-stealer in Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s new ad for Tiffany & Co.

In a short film titled “Date Night (He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not),” Beyoncé and Jay-Z enjoy a romantic car ride. The couple is seen eating pizza and sipping champagne while Paul Anka’s “Put Your Head on My Shoulder” and Bert Kaempfert’s “Three O’Clock in the Morning” play in the background.

The ad is inspired by a famous scene from the classic film Breakfast at Tiffany’s, which starred Audrey Hepburn. But about midway into the short, the green screen is revealed and Blue Ivy Carter makes an appearance.

Blue Ivy Carter is shown running after her parents before hopping into the backseat. Things quickly get crowded as Beyoncé, Jay-Z and their daughter are joined by a dog.

“Date Night” is a bonus film from the Tiffany and Co. campaign “About Love.” More shorts will be released later this year.

“Beyoncé and Jay-Z are the epitome of the modern love story,” Tiffany Co. Executive Vice President of Product and Communications Alexandre Arnault said in a press release. “As a brand that has always stood for love, strength and self-expression, we could not think of a more iconic couple that better represents Tiffany’s values. We are honored to have the Carters as a part of the Tiffany family.”

NBA YoungBoy Agrees To Be Guarded By Soldiers If Judge Will Release Him From Jail

Southern rapper NBA YoungBoy, who is barely old enough to drink in a nightclub, is asking the federal government for access to some basic freedoms and luxuries, despite him being in jail.

His lawyers are asking for bail, so he can go home and record music. Prison is apparently an inconvenience to his sweltering hot music career.

On Monday, October 18, his attorneys mapped out a plan for the judge overseeing his client’s case. They asked that the Baton Rouge native be confined to his Utah home.

The rapper’s lawyer said they would hire a security firm staffed by veterans in his pitch to the judge. These former soldiers, according to The Advocate, will patrol the property to ensure that he maintains what they hope will be a strict “at-home incarceration.”

However, Chief U.S. District Judge Shelly Dick doesn’t seem to have any inclination to set a bond for NBA YoungBoy. The honorable judge has already rejected a request for the artist’s bond, stating that the “Kick Yo Door” rapper is “inclined toward reckless, illegal, dangerous behavior.”

The judge further stated that there is no way she could secure the community’s safety if he is released.

As reported by AllHipHop.com, NBA YoungBoy, whose real name is Kendrell Gaulden, was charged with possessing a firearm as a felon and possessing a firearm not registered to him in a federal database.

Two weeks later, he was taken into custody by the feds in Los Angeles after taking them on a crazy car chase throughout the city. He was returned and locked up in Louisiana.

Judge Dick has yet to make a decision.

Ye Wears Mask To Meet With Ex-Trump Lawyer Michael Cohen

Ye, previously known as Kanye West, wore a strange mask out in public again, this time to meet with Donald Trump’s former lawyer Michael Cohen.

The two were seen getting coffee together at Sant Ambroeus in New York on Tuesday. The rapper, who legally changed his name to Ye on Monday, and Cohen met at the same spot earlier this month.

Page Six caught up with Cohen after the meeting, but the ex-Trump attorney wouldn’t reveal any details about his conversation with Kanye West.

“We were just getting together,” he told Page Six.

Cohen did have an explanation for Ye wearing a mask though.

“The purpose was so that people would not recognize him,” Cohen said. “The first 10 minutes we sat down, he was mobbed by people … who wanted photos, and to say hello. So, he put on this mask to give him some anonymity, which interestingly enough, did not really work.”

Ronn Torossian, the CEO of 5W Public Relations, was also at the meeting and provided some more details. He said Ye and Cohen discussed real estate.

“There was no security, [Ye] was just wandering the streets with the mask,” Torossian told Page Six. “He was a pleasant guy. He and Michael Cohen were talking about real estate.”

One thing that surely didn’t come up in the chat was Cohen legally representing Kanye West. In 2019, Trump’s one-time fixer was disbarred from practicing law after pleading guilty to multiple felony charges.

Jay-Z Hired Former Police Sergeant To Spy On Perfume Boss In $18 Million Legal Battle

Did Jay-Z have his people spy on a witness set to testify in an upcoming trademark trial?

Apparently so.

Jay-Z is in a battle with Parlux Fragrances over a botched perfume deal centered around a brand called “Jay-Z Gold.”

Parlux is suing the rapper for $18 million, claiming he reneged on the deal, while Jay says the company never paid him $2.7 in royalties.

According to reports, Alex Spiro, an attorney hired by the “I’m a Hustla” rapper, enlisted the services of a private investigator to trail former Parlux Fragrances President Donald J. Loftus to see if he was lying about the reason he doesn’t want to testify in person during the trial.

It is alleged that Loftus is afraid to come to the public court building because he might catch the coronavirus, the dastardly illness that has crippled the world.

It is even said that Loftus went to his gastroenterologist to get two different letters that advised him not to go to the court and testify physically and to stay in his home.

Jigga’s team is calling bulls##t, and the investigator, a former New York Police Sergeant named Peter Devine, proved otherwise.

Spiro stated in documents filed on Friday, “While the doctor’s letters claim Mr. Loftus was so fearful of COVID-19 that he had not been indoors other than his house since the beginning of the pandemic, the statements have proven to be false.”

Apparently, Devine found exactly what they needed to force him to show up in court.

“Just last week, Mr. Loftus was caught in public without a mask, in stores, on buses, dining inside restaurants, and at a crowded parade,” he continued. “Loftus should testify in person with everyone else.”

Parlux Fragrances and Loftus’ legal team said that the team representing the billionaire mogul is “incorrect, misleading and inaccurate.”

The preliminary hearing for the case started on October 1.

Presiding is New York State Supreme Court Justice Andrew Borrok, and he told the perfume company that they look crazy having their top executive appear on Zoom.

Justice Borrok advised, “You do what you want, but if you’re serious about winning this case, having the president of the company testify remotely, even if I allow it, it’s a terrible look. It’s just a bad look.”

Devine even alleges that the day the judge made his remarks, he saw Loftus out in New York City’s Upper East Side without a mask.

He also said that he saw Loftus eating out several times, going to the dry cleaners, grocery store, riding the public bus. Spiro said he should be charged with violating a criminal law for filing false statements to the court.

This story is developing.

Meek Mill Says He’ll Retire From His Rap “Day Job” Within 5 Years

Meek Mill has retirement on his mind.

In an interview with Complex’s Speedy Morman, Meek Mill suggested he only has a few years left as an active performer. The Philadelphia native said he’s ready to explore ventures beyond rapping.

“I got like three, four more years left,” Meek revealed. “That’s it. I’ve been rapping since I was 23 … I can’t be performing forever. I probably got two, three more years. I think these the last years I’m going hard with music and I’ma go pursue like other stuff too.”

Meek Mill noted he wouldn’t stop music completely, but he’s ready to move on from being a full-time artist. He thinks his days of touring and dedicating himself to recording albums are numbered.

“I’ll still make music but going on tour, working on the album six months, being away from my family that long – I give up,” he said. “Let the young n##### come up next and see … just move me out of the way.”

As Meek Mill explained it, he envisions himself in a spot where rapping is no longer his “day job.” He believes he’ll reach this point after releasing a few more albums.

“I’ll still be rapping,” he said. “Anybody wanna buy an NFT or some s### like that? We still got s### going on, but I ain’t gonna make that my priority of my day job – music all day. I got like four or five more albums and we over with.”

Meek Mill is coming off the release of his Expensive Pain LP, which dropped on October 1. The album debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, making it the seventh Top 10 project of his career.

RZA Links With LeBron James And Calm To Promote Meditation

Wu-Tang Clan founder and filmmaker RZA has become the latest celebrity to partner with bosses at the mindfulness app Calm.

The rap icon and meditation and wellbeing convert will score a 34-minute sleep story titled “King of the Sleeping City,” which LeBron James has narrated.

RZA hopes fans use his new music to meditate, insisting zen-like relaxation “is better than medication.”

He turns to walking whenever he needs to get his thoughts straight, revealing neighborhood hikes help balance out his busy schedule when he’s working through the night on music and films.

“A lot of equations I had to figure out in life came to me through long walks,” he told Rolling Stone. “There was a point when people thought I was bugged-out… I’d walk (on) Staten Island. I’d walk through all the neighborhoods, and people would look at me and think I was talking to myself and s###. But I was contemplating. I was calculating.”

In “King of the Sleeping City,” he was tasked with creating the chill soundtrack to a story about a city kid who finds solace and calm on a seventh-story fire escape.

‘Wear The Bear’: Mobbed Up Clothing Is A Favorite in South Florida’s Hip Hop Community

In South Florida, Mobbed Up Clothing isn’t just a business — it’s a movement.

“The idea of Mobbed Up Clothing started about 5 years ago,” said James Whalen, the founder of the line. “We had a different name, different direction, same concept. Some big life lessons took place and unfortunately it didn’t happen then. It proves when your idea is great it will find a way to manifest itself. I made a shirt as a joke that said “I know Shannon and James”(my wife and I). I created the shirt in black and white and people loved the shirt so I made others and kept the same concept and colors. The rest is history.”

The mascot of Mobbed Up Clothing line is the affable Dusty The Bear, named after Whalen’s best friend. “Dusty is a representation of my best friend Dustin who passed away in 2012,” he said. “We were never without each other. Losing him dramatically changed my life and how I viewed my place in the world. I was without my best friend. That does something to a person. At that moment I decided to have no more excuses. We are going to create a legacy. Results didn’t happen overnight or in a few years. I have failed time and time again. When I fall I get back up again. That’s what we do. We grind and push until we make it. These are the people I’m sure will connect with our brand. We’re just ecstatic when we see people smile when they put our brand on for the first time. Definitely cuddly but a little rough around the edges. It’s how I want to feel when I walk outside.”

Hip-Hop Games: “HeadRush” Hip-Hop Edition by MooreGames – Family Toy Company

Today the owners of MooreGames, Family Toy Company, have launched a Hip-Hop board game called HeadRush: Hip-Hop Edition, the first board game in of its kind in Hip-Hop culture. While stuck in the house due to the pandemic in 2020, Antwon along with his wife Kimberly and daughter, Ariyanna came up with an idea for a board game that Hip-Hop fans will love.

HeadRush: Hip-Hop Edition comes in multiple editions that will span across several industries and musical genres, but the game capitalizes on everyone staying at home after the pandemic giving families something fun to do together. Kicking things off with a Hip-Hop board game, MooreGames, is giving Hip-Hop fans a new way to enjoy the culture that took the world by storm.

The game allows up to 6 players to play a one on one “everyman for themselves” style game. All players pick one card and without looking at the photo on the back of the card, place it on their head band. To figure out what rapper’s on their card, players ask as many yes or no questions as they can, before their timer runs out.

“I believe we follow the culture and my wife and I saw an interview on Breakfast Club with the creator of the game, Rhymantics. During the pandemic me and my family were just in the house. We kept playing board games and I started thinking how we could incorporate the culture into our own game and how it could be cool to engage Hip-Hop fans” Antwon said to the inspiration to start HeadRush: Hip-Hop Edition. “I kept watching that Breakfast Club episode over and over; it really lit a spark!”

“How we structured HeadRush, it’s basically a Who Am I? type game, we merged the old school and new school rappers, trying to include different era’s of Hip-Hop. When playing the game you can ask questions like, Do they have dreads? Are they a conscious rapper? Are they a trap rapper? Are they independent?” Antwon stated. “We basically started with like 100-150 cards going from old school all the way to new school, some popular and some obscure artists, so we may have some newer artists that are not as popular or older artists that are really popular.”

“We’re at the beginning stages of the game, everything we’ve ever done as a family in business has started grassroots and that’s how we’re pushing HEADRUSH. The goal is to get the game into production, we need to get subscribers to our site that recently launched. We plan on showcasing HEADRUSH on a crowdfunding platform to build awareness on what we’re doing, in hopes to have production completed for our rollout Fall 2022.”

EXCLUSIVE: 50 Cent Claims Remy Martin Trying To Destroy His Branson Cognac Brand

50 Cent claims spirits brand Remy Martin is attempting to ruin his cognac business.

In August, Remy Cointreau filed a lawsuit against 50’s company Sire Spirits. Remy claims 50 Cent’s brand Branson Cognac willfully and blatantly copied their bottle design from XO Cognac.

“No brand or company has the right to exclude others from making or selling curved bottles for cognac or other alcohol,” 50 Cent lawyer Reena Jain explained. “Nonetheless, Remy Martin is on a mission to eliminate Sire Spirits from the cognac market.”

50 Cent founded Sire Spirits in 2014 when he did a deal with Beam Suntory to market the EFFEN brand of vodka.

After his success with EFFEN, 50 founded two subsidiaries – Sire Champagnes to market his champagne brand Le Chemin du Roi and Sire Brown, which created the Branson Cognac brand.

50 says he was inspired to design his bottle based on canteens used by soldiers during the Civil War. The rapper also wanted to create a bottle that would reflect light from all angles.

After the design for his bottle was completed, 50 Cent says he filed trademarks for the “Branson Bottle” on February 6th, 2020, with The United States Patent and Trademark Office with no opposition.

According to 50 Cent’s legal team, the lawsuit has nothing to do with the bottle – and everything to do with competition.

They claim Remy Martin has been targeting 50 Cent’s brand with meritless claims since the beginning of the year.

In France, Remy Martin filed a lawsuit against Sire Spirits’ bottler Cognac Embouteillage. In April of 2021, Remy Martin finally filed a notice of opposition with the USPTO over the rapper’s bottle design.

But 50’s lawyers say that not one of Remy Martin’s designs is similar to his Branson Bottle, let alone substantially identical.

The rapper’s team says Remy Martin’s complaint fails to state any claim for willful patent infringement and is nothing but meritless litigation to destroy a competitor financially.

“Remy Martin’s efforts to monopolize the cognac market and draw spirits into a multi-front legal battle in order to force an exorbitant settlement should not be allowed to continue,” Reena Jain said.

50 Cent is asking for Remy Martin’s lawsuit against Branson Cognac to be dismissed with prejudice and he also wants a judge to make the company pay the legal bills he has incurred.

Snoop Dogg Sued Over “Dummy Of The Week” Instagram Post

Rapper Snoop Dogg is in legal hot water after posting a viral video of a protester trying to climb a Manhattan office building to Instagram without permission.

Bosses at media outlet FreedomNews.TV filed suit on Monday in Los Angeles federal court over the alleged violation of their copyright.

The “Gin and Juice” rapper has been accused of stealing copyrighted footage of the April incident, in which a protester fell to the ground while attempting to climb the exterior of JPMorgan Chase’s New York headquarters.

Snoop captioned the video “Dummy of the Week” when he posted it to Instagram. According to reports, the post is still on his Instagram page and viewed more than 4.5 million times.

FreedomNews.TV bosses claim the video is an “exact copy” of their original and that Snoop is to blame since he takes “an active and pervasive role” in content posted to his account.

The chiefs also accuse the “Drop It Like It’s Hot” hitmaker of violating the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, which prohibits the removal of “content management information” used on copyrighted works.

“Defendant intentionally removed copyright management information related to the video,” the lawsuit states. “Defendant purposefully failed to include the video credit originally conveyed with the video in order to mislead the public into believing that defendant either owned the video or had legitimately licensed it.”
